The Jamaican bobsled team, which inspired the 1993 Cool Runnings?film,?had to be rescued on Saturday after their van broke down in?Calgary, Alberta. With their sights on the?2018 Winter Olympics, the 12-person team were on their way to compete at Canada Olympic Park when the incident happened.Passer-by David Schnerch?saw the team trying to fix the vehicles battery by the side of the road and offered to lend a hand. After failing to jump start the van, he drove the team to the Olympic Park just in time for the race. He then gave them the keys to his truck to get them to their next event in British Columbia.Speaking to the BBC, Schnerch said:?If they still need it, once theyre done theyll get it back to me.It is understood the Jamaican team are on a tight budget and the van was supposed to take them on a tour across Canada. The teams social media director, Kathleen Pulito, told the?Calgary Herald:?Were just trying to do what we can, get one place to the next and hoping we dont run out of money.A GoFundMe page has since been set up?to raise enough money for repairs of the van. Jim Otto Jersey . Francis told several hundred members of the European Olympic Committees that when sport "is considered only in economic terms and consequently for victory at every cost . Kenny Stabler Womens Jersey . Malkin got tangled up with Detroits Luke Glendening early in the third period and his left skate took the brunt of collision with the boards behind Pittsburghs net. http://www.shoptheraidersonline.com/Elite-Marcus-Allen-Raiders-Jersey/ . He was followed closely by David Clarkson, donning red, seconds later. Clarksons actions one night earlier, leaping off the bench in defence of Kessel during a pre-season game against the Buffalo Sabres, will cost him the first 10 games of the regular season. Tim Brown Womens Jersey . Supported by three-run homers from Jayson Werth and Wilson Ramos, the young right-hander went seven strong innings in the Washington Nationals 8-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night. Willie Brown Jersey . Instead of dwelling on the negative, Oates focused on what was good about the clubs recent play. It worked. Every Friday during football season, ESPN Chalk will ask some of Las Vegas top oddsmakers where the action has gone over the course of the week. Here is the latest installment of their insights into the betting action coming in on the NFL.1. Which game(s) have had the biggest line move so far?Jason Simbal, vice president of race and sports at CG Technology: Due to the Tom Brady suspension, the Arizona Cardinals went from -1 to -6.5. After the Tony Romo injury, the Cowboys went from -4.5 to pick em. The biggest non-injury/suspension move has been on the Cleveland Browns, who opened as an 8.5-point underdog vs. the Philadelphia Eagles. The Browns are now just 4-point underdogs.Chris Andrews, Sports Book director, South Point casino: The biggest mover for us has been the Browns-Eagles game. We opened the Eagles at -8 (a long time ago) and now theyre down to -4. There is some -3.5 available too, so it might go even lower.Nick Bogdanovich, director of bookmaking for William Hill:?We opened Denver at -1.5 and that line ended at Carolina -3. As far as the Sunday games, the Miami Dolphins-Seattle Seahawks game opened with Seattle as a 7-point favorite and now that line has moved up to -10.5. For the Cardinals-Pats game, we opened at -4.5 Arizona and that game is now at Arizona -6.5, with the whole Brady ordeal.2. Which game(s) have had the biggest public action?Simbal:?So far the three teams the public has bet the most money on are the Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans.Andrews: The Panthers-Broncos had the most public action so far, but I think by the time we get to the weekend it will be the Cardinals-Patriots.Bogdanovich: The three main teams that the public is on are the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers?and Oakland Raiders. Public bettors at our 108 locations think these three teams will cover and come out on top. 92 percent of the total dollars wagered are on the Packers against the Jacksonville Jaguars, 90 percent of the total dollars wagered are on the Steelers against the Washington Redskins and 63 percent of the total dollars wagered are on the Raiders against the New Orleans Saints.3. Which game((s) have had the biggest wiseguy action?Simbal: The San Diego Chargers, who opened +7, are now down to +6.dddddddddddd5 thanks to sharp action. The Lions, who opened +4, are similarly down to +3.5.Andrews: Ive had strong wiseguy play on both the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans, so right now thats the biggest bet game, from that perspective. The other wiseguy sides are the Broncos, Browns, Chargers, Lions and Redskins.Bogdanovich: As far as?wiseguy action goes, we havent really seen all that much to this point. We will know by Saturday night or Sunday morning. With the Panthers-Broncos game, the sharps were on Denver and that line slowly moved down. For now, there are sharp moves on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers playing the Atlanta Falcons, and even the Cleveland Browns against the Eagles. 51 percent of the total dollars bet on their Week 1 game is on the Bucs against the Falcons, and 59 percent of the total dollars wagered are on the Browns in their game against the Eagles.4. Whats your greatest Super Bowl liability?Simbal:?The worst case scenario for us is the Arizona Cardinals.Andrews:?The Oakland Raiders are our biggest Super Bowl liability.Bogdanovich: Hands down our biggest liability is the Oakland Raiders. Bettors love the Raiders out here -- maybe it is because of the possible move to Las Vegas . The Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers also carry some liability.5. What was the most popular season win total bet this summer?Simbal: The top four season win total bets have been over on the New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals, and Kansas City Chiefs, and under on the Denver Broncos.Andrews: The Eagles under was the most popular season win total bet, and I can see why -- we opened at 7 wins at -110 for both the over and the under. Now its down to 6 wins, still -110 either way.Bogdanovich: Just like with our Super Bowl liability, the Raiders were our most popularly bet team, as far as season win totals go. We have them set at 8.5 wins, with around 73 percent of total dollars wagered on the over. ' ' '

Major League Baseball will require teams to start many games earlier than normal beginning in 2018, thanks to a provision in the new labor agreement that goes into effect when either team faces a flight longer than 2? hours after the game.Sources told ESPN that the getaway-day changes will apply if a team has a game -- or even an off day at home -- the next day.The new rules also will prohibit teams from scheduling an early-afternoon game the following day if one of the clubs played a night game in a different city the evening before. The changes were adopted after the players union made scheduling and start times a priority in the labor talks, in an effort to reduce the wear and tear of travel and sleep deprivation.Players have long complained about the number of trips that force teams to arrive at their next destination at 5 a.m. local time or later, allowing for just a few hours of sleep before its time to go to the ballpark. In an interview with ESPN last month, union chief Tony Clark said the new rules were fundamental to the health and performance of players and were negotiated against the backdrop of keeping guys on the field as often as possible. On June 9 of this past season, the Los Angeles Angels played a night game in New York that started at about 7 p.m. ET. They then played a night game at home the next day. Under the new rules, their getaway-day game in New York would not be allowed to start later than 4:37 p.m. ET.Another example would have affected the much-discussed Aug. 17-18 schedule of the Boston Red Sox, who played a Wednesday night game in Baltimore and then had a Thursday afternoon game in Detroit that started at 1:10 p.m.Under the new rules, the Orioles would not have been required to move up their 7 p.m. start time because the Red Sox did not face a flight of more than 2? hours. However, the Tigers would not have been allowed to start their game the next day earlier than 5 p.m.The agreement allows for certain special exceptions involving holidays and trips to Wrigley Field, where local laws provide less flexibility in scheduling later start times. However, even those exceptions are restricted to instances in which teams face shorter flights. Archie Bradley Diamondbacks Jersey . 4 Villanova with a 96-68 drubbing on Monday. With his new coach and six-time Grand Slam singles champion Boris Becker watching him during an official match for the first time, Djokovic appeared tentative early against the Slovakian player, who often appeared content to keep the ball in play. AB de Villiers and Morne Morkel will be available for their franchise, Titans, in a bid to prove their fitness for the home series against Sri Lanka later this month. Both de Villiers and Morkel have been out of action since the CPL with an elbow and back injury respectively, but are expected to be available for selection for the Test squad.De Villiers is in the final stages of recovery from elbow surgery which saw him miss the New Zealand Tests in August, the home ODIs and the three Tests against Australia. The Titans confirmed to ESPNcricinfo he will be available for the final two matches of their campaign, which will take place next week.Whether de Villiers gets game time could be crucial to his participation in the home summer, especially since South Africas selection convener Linda Zondi stressed he will need to be match fit before he can resume his national duties. De Villiers is expected to return as captain even though Faf ddu Plessis made a strong case to keep the role permanently following ODI and Test series wins over Australia.ddddddddddddorkel, who travelled with the Test squad to Australia but did not play a game because of concerns over match readiness, is available for T20s but has not been picked for Friday nights fixture against Warriors. With Titans at the top of the table and hopeful of securing their spot in the final, the management has chosen not to alter the team. A source also confirmed that Morkel has not been cleared to bowl longer spells, which could put his participation in the Tests in doubt.Meanwhile, Hashim Amla sustained a neck injury while fielding at slip during the final Test in Adelaide and will sit out the remainder of the T20 competition. JP Duminy, though, is available to play for the Cobras. ' ' '

The first indication of what kind of impact new LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda is having will come against his former team.Aranda joined the Tigers in the offseason after an impressive three-year stint as the Badgers defensive coordinator. Arandas old team and his new team open the season Saturday (3:30 ET) at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis.LSU coach Les Miles brought in Aranda to replace Kevin Steele one year after he brought in Steele to replace John Chavis as the Tigers try to regain the elite defense that they had at the start of this decade.Last season under Aranda, Wisconsin had the No 1 scoring defense in the country (13.7 points per game) and the No. 2 total defense (268.5 yards per game). LSU ranked 41st in scoring defense (24.3) and 25th in total defense (347.2).Dave Aranda has done a very nice job with the defense, Miles said, playing a real physical style, fast, speed to the ball performing extremely well during scrimmages, so it was extremely difficult for us to move the football.I know he cares very much for the place he used to work and to line up against them and players hes coached. Im not speaking for him, but I know that he respects Wisconsin extremely well.Aranda might not need the Tigers to duplicate the Badgers lofty rankings in order to contend for a spot in the College Football Playoff. With junior Leonard Fournette coming off the most productive rushing season in SEC history, the LSU offense should put up big numbers that wont require the defense to be overly stingy. The Tigers have had to do some juggling on their offensive line due to injury. They should have their five starters available but exactly how they line up could be a work in progress in the first few games as LSU didnt have as much time to test various combinations during the preseason as they would have preferred.LSU is hopeful that junior quarterback Brandon Harris has matured sufficiently to provide better offensive balance and make things a little easier for Fournette. Our offense has got a veteran signal caller now, more poised and ready for situations, Miles said. We will have maybe the finest tailback group that Ive been around with Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice, Darrel Williams and just a number of guys that can really run the football.I like the offense and the way theyve come. I think balance is a way to remove people from the box and allow us bigger plays. So if we can do the job that we have planned to do throwing the football, then I think you will find that there will be less people in the box and then maybe more productivity out of less carries.Fournette launches his Heisman Trophy campaign on national television against a team that had the fourth-best run defense in the country last season. LSU already was hoping to lessen Fournettes workload a bit before he was slowed by a sprained ankle toward the end of preseason camp. He had 300 carries in 12 games last season. The Badgers have their own quarterback questions entering Saturday with Bart Houston winning the starting job just 10 days before the opener. Houston, named after former Packers great and Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr, is living a dream by taking snaps at the hallowed home of his favorite NFL team. But LSUs defense brings nightmare potential.NFLDraftScout.com ranked LSU as the No. 2 program in terms of draft potential of the current roster, and speed is everywhere on this Tigers defense. The new 3-4 defense LSU employs is strongest up the middle, where inside linebacker Kendall Beckwith has All-America potential.Wisconsin wants to win on the ground. Running back Corey Clement is the bell-cow back after a hernia injury knocked him out last season, when the Badgers were far below their own lofty standard in the running game.Wisconsin averaged 150.3 yards rushing per game last season -- the worst single-season total since the 1995 team averaged 128.9. Since 2007, the Badgers averaged at least 200.8 yards per game for eight straight seasons. In 2014, Wisconsin averaged 320.1 yards rushing per gameThe Badgers trail the all-time series 3-0 but are no stranger to deadly competition in kickoff games. Theres also a rough road ahead, with Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State -- all ranked in the preseason top 12 -- all on the Wisconsin schedule for the first time since 2010. Melvin Ingram Chargers Jersey . -- If this was Aaron Gordons final home game at Arizona, and it almost certainly was, then he went out in style. Jerry Tillery Chargers Jersey . The injury bothered Bledsoe in the Suns victory over the Clippers on Monday and he sat out the teams home loss to Memphis on Thursday night. http://www.prochargersteamstore.com/Youth-Mike-Williams-Elite-Jersey/ . NBA officials ruled the court unplayable in the Bucks final exhibition game on Oct. 25 because players were slipping, and the game was cancelled midway through the first period. LaDainian Tomlinson Youth Jersey . 10 Texas Rangers jersey for one last time. Victoria 367 (Finch 102, Harper 80, Mennie 4-64) and 0 for 36 need another 165 runs to beat South Australia 405 and 162 (Head 52, Holland 4-25, Stoinis 3-45) Scorecard Victorias Jon Holland and Marcus Stoinis sparked a South Australia collapse that gave the Bushrangers the upper hand on the third day at the MCG. The Redbacks had earned a first-innings advantage but their second-innings capitulation for 162 left Victoria chasing 201 for victory, and by stumps they were already 0 for 36, with Marcus Harris on 19 and Travis Dean on 17.The day had started with Victoria on 6 for 263 in reply to South Australias 405, and the lower order rallied to add 104 for the loss of the final four wickets. Although wicketkeeper Sam Harper missed the chance for a maiden first-class century when he was bowled by Adam Zampa for 80, late runs from Scott Boland (30), Holland (28 not out) and Chris Tremain (20) were valuable.South Australia began reasonably well in their second innings and reached 3 for 107 before the collapse - they lost their last seven wickets for 55 runs. Holland turned one sharply in to bowl the left-hander Jake Lehmann for 28 and then he and Stoinis (3 for 45) ran through much of the rest of the order. The South Australia captain Travis Head top scored for the second time in the match, adding 52 to his first-innings 130, before he became the final victim for Holland, who finished with 4 for 25. Callum Ferguson ended his run of single-figure scores but managed only 24 before he was lbw to Stoinis. John Wensink Jersey . Isner, ranked No. 14, won his eighth career singles title and took the title in New Zealand for the second time after his victory in 2010. The match was similar to Isners quarterfinal victory over fifth-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber which went to three sets, all tiebreaks and contained no breaks of serve. Joe Sakic Jersey . Marincin has played in two NHL games so far this season with two penalty minutes. The 21-year-old has three goals, four assists and a plus-5 rating in 24 games with the American Hockey Leagues Oklahoma City Barons this season. http://www.hockeyavalanche.com/authentic-mikko-rantanen-avalanche-jersey/ . As the crowd erupted, Davis knocked the ball off the glass and back into his hands. With 1:14 to go in overtime, Davis sixth block also became his 17th rebound. That, along with his 32 points -- which tied a career high -- proved too much for Denver to overcome, and the Pelicans held on for their third straight victory, 111-107 on Sunday night. Peter Forsberg Jersey . Thousands of Southern California fans enveloped the Trojans to celebrate an improbable win secured by an interim coach, an inconsistent kicker and a thin defence that wouldnt break. (Sports Network) - J.A. Happ will make his second start since returning from injury today as the Toronto Blue Jays try to salvage a split of their four-game series with the Oakland Athletics in a matinee game. The Blue Jays shook up their rotation ahead of this finale, pushing scheduled starter Josh Johnson back to Wednesday in part because of some tightness in his right forearm that he experienced in his last start, and moving Happ up. The 29-year-old will make his second start following a three-month absence due to a skull fracture sustained when he was hit by a line drive against Tampa Bay on May 7. Though his return to the hill last Wednesday was a great sight, the lefty experienced some issues on the mound in a no-decision. Despite getting staked to an early lead, Happ did not factor into a 9-7 loss as he allowed seven runs -- six earned -- on seven hits and three walks over four-plus innings. "Its obviously not how I wanted it to go," Happ said. "We should have won that game. We scored seven runs early. I wasnt able to keep us holding onto that." Happ is still on normal rest due to an off day last Thursday and is 2-2 with a 5.84 ERA in eight starts this season. He will make his first career start versus Oakland, having faced them twice before in relief. Oakland will send Dan Straily to the hill to chase his first win in more than a month. Following a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 9, Straily was sent back to Triple-A Sacramento before returning to the As at the end of the month. He has lost all four starts since his return, falling to 6-6 with a 4.41 earned run average in 18 starts this year with the Athletics. Though the right-hander has been charged with two earned runs or less in three of those four games, he has not pitched past the fifth inning in three straight. Straily logged 4 2/3 innings in a 5-0 setback to Toronto on July 30, charged with five runs -- two earned -- and giving up a pair of homers. Straily was then lifted after four innings and 75 pitches in Tuesdays 3-1 setback at Cincinnati. He yielded two runs on six hits and a walk. The 24-year-old is 0-1 with a 2.53 ERA in two career meetings with the Blue Jays. On Sunday, Alberto Callaspo hit a go-ahead two-run double during a three-run eighth inning, with his drive to left tipping off the glove of Emilio Bonifacio. Chris Young added a pinch-hit RBI single in the frame. "They just ended up getting a lucky one there with two outs," Jays infielder Brett Lawrie said in reference to Callaspos hit. "That kind of stung us a little bit." Brandon Moss slugged a two-run homer for the Athletics, who remained a game behind the Texas Rangers for first place in the AL West. Grant Balfour earned his 30th save of the season the hard way, giving up a run in the ninth and leaving the bases loaded before finishing things off. That gave manager Bob Melvin the 700th win of his career. "Never a dull moment," Melvin deadpanned. "Excruciating. We found a way to win but it wasnt pretty." Melvin sent Young up to pinch-hit for Coco Crisp, who has a nagging left wrist injury and could rest today. Catcher Derek Norris is also likely to get a break as he deals with back spasms. Jose Reyes and Maicer Izturis drove in a run each for the Blue Jays, who dropped their third game in four. Toronto has won five of the last eight meetings going back to 2012. LONDON -- After two days filled with rain, the sun actually made an appearance at Wimbledon on Thursday, allowing for plenty of play all around the grounds, a chance to finally conclude the first round -- and several surprises, the biggest of which was French Open champion Garbine Muguruzas exit.No. 2 Muguruza, who reached her first Grand Slam final at the All England Club a year ago and won her first Grand Slam title less than a month ago, was one of 18 seeded players who lost on Day 4, including 11 women.Admittedly lethargic, and displaying none of the verve or confident shotmaking shes known for, Muguruza lasted less than an hour in the second round Thursday, beaten 6-3, 6-2 by Slovakias Jana Cepelova, a qualifier ranked 124th.My energy was not really there, Muguruza said. I was trying, but (it) didnt work at all. That same sentiment might have been expressed by some of the other players who joined her on the way out of the tournament, including No. 31 Kristina Mladenovic in a weather-delayed first-round match, and No. 7 Belinda Bencic, No. 14 Sam Stosur, No. 15 Karolina Pliskova, No. 16 Johanna Konta, No. 17 Elina Svitolina, No. 20 Sara Errani, No. 22 Jelena Jankovic, No. 30 Caroline Garcia and No. 32 Andrea Petkovic, all in second-round matches. That group includes a Grand Slam champion (Stosur), major finalists (Errani, Jankovic), the first seeded British woman at Wimbledon since 1984 (Konta, eliminated by 2014 runner-up Eugenie Bouchard) and a top-10 player considered a possible future star of the sport (Bencic, who retired because of a left wrist injury while trailing American qualifier Julia Boserup). There was nearly another big name gone. But No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska, the 2012 Wimbledon runner-up, saved three match points, then took advantage when her opponent, 18-year-old Ana Konjuh of Croatia, twisted her right ankle by accidentally stepping on a tennis ball during a point. That happened at 7-all in the third set and, although Konjuh continued to play after a medical timeout, Radwanska was able to finish off a 6-2, 4-6, 9-7 victory. The seven seeded men who lost, all in the second round, were No. 8 Dominic Thiem, No. 13 David Ferrer, No. 16 Gilles Simon, No. 23 Ivo Karlovic, No. 25 Viktor Troicki -- who launched an epic tirade at the chair umpire because of a call two points from the end of his five-set defeat -- No. 26 Benoit Paire and No. 30 Alexandr Dolgopolov.Muguruza was never able to get going, making 22 unforced errors and managing to produce only nine winners. She said she felt tired and on the verge of an illness. She also wished she had taken more time to rest after the grueling two weeks at Roland Garros that culminated with a victory over Serena Williams in the final.Asked whether coming into Wimbledon as the owner of a major trophy made her feel a weight on her shoulders, Muguruza replied: No, not pressure. I think, for sure, more expectations from other people.Honestly, for me, I just had very clear it was going to be a rough tournament for me after winning a Grand Slam and coming here, she continued. Everybody, you know, like, looking at me.Cepelova equaled her best showing at a major by reaching the third round, but this was not her first significant result. She beat Simona Halep in the first round at Wimbledon a year ago, also on No. 1 Court, and defeated Serena Williams at a tournament in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2014.Yeah, Cepelova said, I like to play on the big courts. As the owner of seven Grand Slam singles titles, including five at Wimbledon, Venus Williams is accustomed to being -- and succeeding -- on those stages. But on Thursday, she found herself on Court 18, with its seating capacity of 782 -- a far cry from the nearly 15,000 at Centre Court.Williams, seeded eighth, had some trouble and needed 2 1/2 hours, but wound up getting past 20-year-old qualifier Maria Sakkari 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 -- one of 10 singles victories for Americans on Thursday.Afterward, Williams did not complain about her placement at that venue. But she did offer some thoughts on the topic. Its not the ideal schedule for the women. Wed like to see equal amount of matches. We dont want more, just the same amount, thats all, said Williams, who was a leading voice in the push to get Wimbledon to offer equal prize money to men and women.Asked whether she could imagine a five-time mens champ being on a smaller court, Williams replied: I havent seen that in the scheduling yet.---Follow Howard Fendrich on Twitter at http://twitter.com/HowardFendrich Dalvin Tomlinson Jersey . BEREA, Ohio --?Cleveland Browns rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman?fractured his hand during practice on Wednesday.According to Cleveland.com -- which first reported the injury -- the teams first-round draft pick broke his hand when he caught a pass and someone came down on it during practice.?An X-ray late this afternoon on Corey Colemans hand revealed a fracture, the team said in a statement. He was a full participant in todays practice. The injury is being further evaluated in order to determine when he will return to play.Coleman, a former Baylor standout who was selected 15th by the Browns in this years draft, had a strong game in Sundays 25-20 loss against the Baltimore Ravens, catching five passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns.Though the Browns wont be sure how long Coleman will be out until he is evaluated on Thursday, it would be impossible for a receiver to play with any kind of significant protection on a broken bone. Specifics on the injury -- which hand and which bone -- are not yet known.Recovery depends on the fracture, location of the fracture, Colemans pain tolerance and whether surgery is required. In some cases, immediate surgery and the placement of a plate and/or screws can be a positive.Julio Jones is an example of how surgery can help. He broke a bone in his hand in college, had surgery immediately and played the following Saturday -- though he was not his usual self. Thats the extreme example on the positive side.Colemans injury continues a streak of misfortune that is a lot for any team in two games -- even the Browns.Quarterback Josh McCown suffered a shoulder injury during Sundays loss to Baltimore, and center Cameron Erving spent the night in the hospital after being diagnosed with a pulmonary contusion.Defensive lineman Carl Nassib also had surgery to repair a broken bone in his hand, and will miss at least this week. In the opener, Robert Griffin III broke the coracoid bone in his left shoulder and was placed on injured reserve.Heading into the third game of the season Sunday in Miami, the Browns have lost two quarterbacks, their first-round pick (Coleman) and third-round pick (Nassib) to injury. CLEVELAND -- A former NFL wide receiver who pleaded guilty to stealing money from two childrens charities is asking that his sentencing hearing be delayed again after prosecutors sought medical records related to a concussion examination.Attorneys for 68-year-old Reggie Rucker on Tuesday filed a motion in U.S. District Court saying that his July 14 sentencing should be postponed because prosecutors have demanded all medical records related to brain damage that Rucker suffered during his 12-year NFL career.ddddddddddddThe motion also says Ruckers attorneys want their experts to evaluate the governments medical records and expert reports on Rucker when theyre finally provided.Rucker pleaded guilty in February to stealing from two childrens charities to pay gambling debts and personal expenses. LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Classic Empire made the most of all 1,234-1/2 feet of the Churchill Downs stretch while signaling that hes a horse with a future.Classic Empire surged by heavy favorite Recruiting Ready in the final strides to win the 115th running of the Grade 3, $100,000 Bashford Manor Stakes by three-quarters of a length Saturday night. The colt appeared to relish the added ground he got in the six-furlong stakes for 2-year-olds, putting him in a promising position as distances begin to stretch out for the division. The way that he breezes and trains in the morning, hes much more effective when hes able to go out and relax and settle into stride, said Norm Casse, the head assistant to his father, Mark. Sprinting is obviously not something where you get to do that. So going forward, I think hes definitely going to be much more effective around two turns.Recruiting Ready, who was coming off a 10-1/4-length debut win in May in which he flirted with a Pimlico track record, was away swiftly from the outside post in the field of nine, and quickly cleared the field through an opening quarter-mile in 21.76 seconds. He still led by a measured length and was moving easily through the half in 45.07. Meanwhile, Classic Empire ($11.40), who had ducked in at the start while breaking from the rail under Julien Leparoux, was seventh after a quarter-mile and had worked his way up to fourth after a half, but was still 6-1/2 lengths back of the leader.Classic Empire shifted into the three path to take dead aim on Recruiting Ready, who led by 3-1/2 lengths and looked home free in midstretch. But the eventual winner simply inhaled ground inside the final sixteenth to run down the favorite -- also convincing Leparoux that he will be better going longer. The other one left there quick, but I knew my horse was running, Leparoux said. At the quarter pole, I knew he was going to run good, but I didnt know if he was going to catch him or not. The first time he won at 4-1/2 furlongs, it was almost too quick for him, and he still won. Today at six furlongs, he liked it a bit more. The top two were well clear of the rest of the field, with Tip Tap Tapizar, nine lengths back in third. The final time was the second-fastest in the races history, 1:09.39.A son of classic sire Pioneerof the Nile, Classic Empire was a $474,000 purchase by prominent Casse client John Oxley out of last falls Keeneland September yearling sale. The colt came into the Bashford Manor off a 1 1/2-length debut victory on May 4 at Churchill Downs, in which he looked to finish full of run after also being slow to get into stride.Hes still a little shy, and you could tell when he broke, he broke in a little bit, Norm Casse said. But it ended up working out to his advantage -- the pace set up for him, and he was able to run down a really talented horse today. I really have a lot of respect for the horse that he beat. And hes something we can all look forward to. Lonnie Johnson Jersey . -- Eastern Kentucky thrives off creating havoc for others. Arian Foster Womens Jersey . Jefferson has been charged with assaulting his girlfriend. Just weeks after All Blacks prop Owen Franks was cleared of an alleged eye-gouge of Wallabies lock Kane Douglas, Top 14 fly-half Matthieu Ugale from Brive was seen making eye contact with Grenobles Armand Battle. Its an act of foul play seen too often in rugby, so at ESPN weve listed some of the worst incidents of eye-gouging from around the world.Richard NonesColomiers prop Richard Nones, the only professional player to have received the maximum ban for eye-gouging, sat on the sideline for two years, from 1999 to 2001, for his dirty act during a Heineken Cup Pool Four match at Pontypridd. While the French player received the longest ban, his act surely isnt the worst of eye-gouging incidents throughout world rugby.David AttoubTaking out the second longest ban for eye-gouging, Stade Francais prop David Attoub was handed a 70-week suspension after he was found guilty of gouging Ulster flanker Stephen Ferris in 2010.Judge Jeff Blackett later said it was the worst act of contact with the eyes that I have had to deal with: it is a case of deliberate eye-gouging.The worst part; this wasnt the first time he had received a suspension for gouging, with the prop also standing down over an incident in a European match during the 2004-05 season.Teammate Julien Dupuy was also handed a 24-week ban, reduced to 23 on appeal, for his role in the incident.Dylan HartleyThe bad boy of England rugby, Dylan Hartley, has a rap sheet a mile-long adding up to a years worth of suspensions, with his eye-gouging ban making up a large part of the numbers.Hartley, now Englands captain, has been banned for biting, punching, elbowing and verbally abusing a referee, but his 26 week ban for gouging takes the cake.In 2007, Hartley was found guilty of two counts of gouging in the same game - one of current England teammate James Haskell and was ruled out of the 2007 Rugby World Cup.Mariano GalarzaArgentina forward Mariano Galarza missed out on most of Argentinas amazing 2015 Rugby World Cup run after he was baanned for nine weeks for eye-gouging All Blacks lock Brodie Retallick.ddddddddddddThe replacement forward was found guilty of making eye contact with the eye or the eye area after he was spotted following making contact with Retallicks eyes in the 25th minute of their Pool C fixture.Bakkies BothaOne of the worst serial offenders for dirty play has been South Africas Bakkies Botha. Head-butting, stamping and illegal cleanouts are just the start for this Springboks star with Botha receiving an eight week ban for an incident with Wallabies hooker Brendan Cannon. In 2004, the Test rugby bad boy was suspended after he got up close and personal with Cannons eyes and shoulder. While video footage was inconclusive, Cannon remarked Botha had left a bite mark in his right shoulder and later put his fingers in both of Cannons eyes.Schalk BurgerBothas teammate Schalk Burger can also claims a dirty track record with the 33-year-old dealt an eight week ban for his attack on British & Irish Lions wing Luke Fitzgerald in 2009.Burger remarkably escaped with just a yellow card during the game despite being caught by touch judge Bryce Lawrence as he stuck his fingers into Fitzgeralds eyes just 28 seconds into the match. While Burgers actions were disgusting, South Africa coach Peter de Villiers also landed himself in hot water after he defended Burgers actions and claimed the actions did not deserve a yellow card and that they were part of sport.Tomas FrancisWales prop Tomas Francis managed to escape punishment on field punishment for this foul play, but it didnt last once the citing commission got a hold of it.Francis was seen rubbing his fingers over Englands Dan Coles eyes and while referee Craig Joubert took no action against the Welsh replacement despite watching replays on the big screens, Francis was found guilty of the offence and was banned for eight weeks. LOS ANGELES -- The?Los Angeles Dodgers hopes of having Clayton Kershaw for the stretch drive were buoyed Sunday when the staff ace played catch at Dodger Stadium. It was the first time Kershaw participated in a baseball-related activity, outside of rehab for his lower back injury, since pitching in a simulated game on July 16 against minor league hitters. Kershaw came away from that outing with continued back discomfort that originally surfaced June 26 following a start at Pittsburgh. Its significant that he played catch, manager Dave Roberts said. Were all excited about it. And when Clayton is ready hell be back. But the guys that are active, were focused on the guys we have active. And when Clayton comes back, were going to be that much better for it.While no target date was given for a potential Kershaw return, it did not sound like the left-hander would be back until around mid-September at the earliest. Roberts mentioned that instead of minor league rehab starts, Kershaw would throw in bullpens and live batting practice sessions to get back into game shape. That preparation route would be needed because Triple-A Oklahoma City, Double-A Tulsa and Single-A Rancho Cucamonga all end their regular seasons on Sept. 5.Kershaw threw from about 60 to 65 feet in the outfield in left. He worked mostly out of the stretch at a deliberate pitch and was throwing about 70 percent of full velocity.[The next step] will be just a little further out, Roberts said. Just continue to get his intensity up and stretch him out a little more. Like Ive said all along, Clayton is not a guy we worry about in regard to the intensity, the intent to get back. Hell be back as soon as he possibly can.Kershaw is 11-2 with a 1.79 ERA in 16 starts this season. He has 145 strikeouts, a number that still leads the Dodgers, even though he hasnt pitched in five weeks. He has just nine walks in 121 innings.Even after the original injury, the setback and the dwindling timetable, Roberts has never lost hope that Kershaw would pitch again this season.Yeah, you know what, I think all along we have expected, and a little is being hopeful, but we expect him to make starts for us in September, Roberts said. their seventh consecutive loss

Erstellt 21.08.2019 16:18 von MJL456 21.08.2019 16:18 In der Kategorie Allgemein.

SAN DIEGO -- Stephen Strasburg had quite the homecoming. Pitching in front of about 50 family members and friends, Strasburg lasted a career-high eight innings against his hometown Padres to snap a seven-start winless streak, and Bryce Harper and Adam LaRoche homered to lead the Washington Nationals to a 6-2 victory against San Diego on Thursday night. "Its easy pitching in front of a lot of loved ones," Strasburg said. "Its just another place to me, to be honest. Its my hometown. Im an Aztec. But I look forward to pitching anyplace in the big leagues. Its kind of a dream come true." Strasburgs 54th big league start was his first professional appearance at Petco Park. The big right-hander went to high school in suburban Santee and pitched for Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn at San Diego State before the Nationals took him with the first overall pick in the 2009 amateur draft. He pitched twice at Petco Park for SDSU. "I heard a lot of Welcome home and a lot of Go Aztecs out there. Its great. Im just glad they remembered me." He allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits while striking out four and walking three. He got the final out of the eighth on his 117th pitch. Strasburg had never thrown a pitch in the eighth inning of a big league start until he faced Everth Cabrera on Thursday night. Strasburg said he had been looking forward to "just getting deep in the ballgame, getting used to that, getting into the routine of how youre bodys going to feel the next day and learning how to recover and getting ready to doing it again." Strasburg (2-5) had gone seven innings 10 times, including three this year. He said he was happy manager Davey Johnson let him go back out for the eighth. "Im just glad he wasnt waiting for me at the top step after the seventh," Strasburg said. "I went out there in the eighth and I got the first out and it was like, All right, so this is what it feels like. I trust Daveys judgment and obviously he saw that my stuff was still there. He had the trust in me to go out there and get it done." Strasburg was supposed to pitch at Petco Park last year but a rainout pushed that start back. "I thought he pitched a heck of a ballgame," Johnson said. "It was the first time hes ever gone eight innings. It was a good homecoming for him. I liked it. I didnt think he was as sharp as he usually is, but it was a good ballgame. It was nice to see some offence coming up to give him some run support." Strasburg earned his first victory since beating Miami on opening day. In Strasburgs only other appearance against the Padres, he lasted just four innings in a 6-1 loss at Washington on May 15, 2012. Strasburg held the Padres scoreless through four innings and allowed only one run in the fifth despite loading the bases with one out. "He kept the ball down for the most part," San Diegos Yonder Alonso said. "We had the bases loaded there and we couldnt get it done." Harper, back in the lineup three nights after running full-on into the scoreboard in right field at Dodger Stadium, hit a monster shot estimated at 431 feet to straightaway centre field on the first pitch he saw from Tyson Ross with two outs in the seventh. Harpers homer nearly reached the base of the batters eye. It was his 11th. Harpers violent collision with the wall at Dodger Stadium left the 20-year-old slugger with 11 stitches in his chin and a sore body. Harper said he felt a little better but his whole left side was still sore. He played left field and batted third. LaRoche hit a two-run homer into the sandy play area beyond the fence in right-centre off Edinson Volquez (3-4) with one out in the fourth for a 2-0 lead. It was his fifth. The Nationals added three runs off Volquez in the fifth, on a two-run single by Ryan Zimmerman and an RBI single by Steve Lombardozzi. Volquez allowed five runs and five hits in five innings, struck out seven and walked four. San Diegos Jedd Gyorko led off the fifth with a double that caromed off the base of the stands in left and Alexi Amarista walked. With one out, pinch-hitter Kyle Blanks hit a sharp grounder to third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, whose throw to second sailed over Steve Lombardozzi for an error that loaded the bases. Everth Cabreras groundout brought in a run before Strasburg struck out Will Venable. "He worked his way out of that jam," Padres manager Bud Black said. "We tried to get a little closer. He made a couple of pitches to minimize the damage and that got him through the middle part of the game." Chris Denorfia hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth. NOTES: Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M, known as "Johnny Football," threw out the ceremonial first pitch. He put a football twist on it by dropping back, scrambling and tossing it to Mark Kotsay, who caught it behind his back. Manziel also took two rounds of batting practice, with mixed results. The bat went flying out of his hands on his first swing, but he later hit a ball off the right-field wall at Petco Park. Manziel took BP while wearing loafers. ... Manziel is in town to work with quarterbacks coach George Whitfield Jr. "He came out here last year as a third-stringer and now he comes out here as a Heisman Trophy winner," Whitfield said. ... Manziel and Padres RHP Burch Smith have known each other since they were kids growing up in Tyler, Texas. Manziel said Smith once pulled a prank on him by locking him a batting cage. ... Johnson, who also went to Texas A&M, chatted up Manziel during batting practice. ... Manziel threw out the ceremonial first pitch before a game between the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels. ... OAKLAND, Calif. -- When the Buffalo Bills took a 15-point lead midway through the third quarter, the game was right in the comfort zone for the Oakland Raiders.Derek Carr led yet another comeback with two touchdown passes in the second half and Khalil Mack helped force two turnovers that rallied the Raiders to their biggest comeback in 16 years with a 38-24 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. The Raiders (10-2) scored the final 29 points to mount their sixth fourth-quarter comeback of the season and win their sixth straight game overall, remaining one game ahead of Kansas City in the tough AFC West.We dont want to be in these positions where were playing from behind, said running back Latavius Murray, who ran for two scores. We want to dominate from start to finish. We keep finding ourselves in these situations, which is the reason we have to continue to improve and get better. The Raiders fell behind 24-9 following touchdowns on the first two drives of the second half for Buffalo (6-6), before mounting the biggest comeback win since rallying from 21 points down to beat Indianapolis 38-31 on Sept. 10, 2000.Oakland scored touchdowns on three straight drives, including scoring strikes from Carr to Michael Crabtree and Amari Cooper for his 11th career fourth-quarter comeback. With four games left this season, Carr has already matched the win total he posted in his first two years combined as Oaklands playoff drought reached 13 seasons. Its an exciting time in Oakland, Carr said. Its definitely fun times. Weve come a long way. ... But we still have yet to do anything. The defense also tightened by forcing three straight three-and-outs and then getting a turnover when Khalil Mack deflected Tyrod Taylors pass that Nate Allen intercepted . Oakland took over at the 16 and put the game away with Murrays second touchdown run of the game to make it 38-24 on Carrs 2-point conversion pass to Seth Roberts. The loss was crushing for the Bills, who entered December with hopes of ending the leagues longest playoff drought. A big day by LeSean McCoy, who had 130 yards rushing, helped stake Buffalo to the big lead, but it wasnt enough. The Bills are two games behind Denver for the second wild-card spot in the AFC and could be headed to a 17th straight season without a playoff berth. It was one of those situations where everything they did went right and we just couldnt make a play, safety Corey Graham said. Ive never really been in a situation like that where everything went wrong, just like you couldnt make a play, and then those guys went on a roll and it was like everything they did turned to gold.RARE TURNOVERS: The Bills have been on a record pace protecting the ball, but had a bad time for a rare turnover. After taking over at their own 4 midway through the fourth quarter trailing by six, Taylor was hit by Mack on the first play, leading to just the seventh turnover of the season for Buffalo. Mack then sealed the game with a sack and fumble recovery with Buffalo driving late.CARRS FINGER: A week after injuring the pinkie on his throwing hand and missing a series, Carr was able to play without a glove on his right hand. But the injury still hampered Carr to a degree as he took no snaps under center to protect the injury, even in short-yardage situations.ENCORE PERFORMANCE: A week after scoring on a 75-yard run against Jacksonville on the first play from scrimmage of the second half, McCoy struck big again to open the third quarter. He ran 54 yards on the first play and Taylor followed with a 12-yard keeper on the next play to put Buffalo up 17-9.FAST START: The Bills gained a season-high 147 yards in the first quarter and scored on their first two drives with a field goal by Dan Carpenter and Mike Gillislees 1-yard run early in the second. Buffalo ran just once on nine plays on the opening drive and then ran on nine of 11 plays the next drive.FAST FINISH: The Raiders took over with 30 seconds left in the first half at their own 15 and managed to get points. Carr completed four straight passes for 57 yards to set up Sebastian Janikowskis 47-yard field goal that cut Buffalos lead to 10-9 at the half. The last time a team started a drive shy of its own 20 with 30 seconds or fewer remaining in the first half and scored came in 2005 when San Francisco did it for a field goal against Jacksonville, according to Pro Football Reference.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL Buy Yeezy Shoes . The Portland Trail Blazers and Memphis Grizzlies have emerged as the primary competitors for free-agent forward Chandler Parsons, sources told ESPN.The Blazers offered Parsons a maximum contract worth $94.8 million over four years during a meeting in Los Angeles in the opening hours of free agency, sources said. The Grizzlies are also expected to make a max offer in a meeting with Parsons scheduled for Friday, sources told ESPNs Marc Stein. There is no chance of Parsons re-signing with the Dallas Mavericks, a source said. The divorce comes after the Mavs made it clear that they had no intention of offering a max contract to Parsons, whose two seasons in Dallas both ended prematurely because of surgeries on his right knee. The Blazers, who are aggressively attempting to make a major addition via free agency for the first time since Brian Grant left Sacramento for Portland almost two decades ago, did not hesitate to meet Parsons contractual demands.Portland owner Paul Allen, general manager Neil Olshey, coach Terry Stotts and star point guard Damian Lillard attended the meeting. A source described Parsons as really impressed with Portlands presentation, which emphasized how he would fit with the core of a young team that advanced to the second round of the Western Conference playoffs last season.Parsons has an advocate in Memphis in recently hired assistant coach J.B. Bickerstaff, who formed a close relationship with Parsons during their time together with the Houston Rockets. Sources say point guard?Mike Conley?also wants Parsons in Memphis if Conley re-signs with the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies are the heavy favorites to keep Conley if their offer for a max contract includes the fifth year that only they can give him.Mavs owner Mark Cuban attempted to talk Parsons, his partner in last summers ultimately unsuccessful attempt to recruit center DeAndre Jordan to Dallas, into opting into the final season of the three-year, $46 million deal Parsons signed after spending his first three seasons with the Rockets. Sources say Parsons never seriously considered picking up the option, as he was confident that hed receive a significant raise and long-term deal this summer because versatile, playmaking forwards are in high demand and short supply. The Mavs responded by putting Parsons on the backburner to begin free agency, making Conley?and Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside their top targets. The Mavs met with Whiteside in New York in the opening hours of free agency and have a Friday afternoon meeting in Dallas scheduled with Conley, sources said. The Mavs also had a meeting scheduled with Charlotte Hornets small forward Nicolas Batum?on Friday, but he struck a deal hours into free agency to stay in Charlotte, according to a league source.?Cuban had consistently described Parsons as a foundation piece, but sources say Dallas decision-makers reached a consensus opinion that they werent willing to take the risk of offering him a max deal.Parsons averaged 14.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game during his two-year tenure in Dallas but was only able to play in one playoff game because of his knee injuries.Parsons, 27, had hybrid microfracture surgery on the knee in spring of 2015, and the rehab from that operation lasted well into the 2015-16 season. The arthroscopic operation Parsons underwent this spring to address a torn meniscus in the knee wasnt nearly as serious as the previous surgery.Sources say multiple renowned orthopedic specialists have given Parsons clearance to resume full basketball activities and expressed optimism that his knee would not prevent him from having a long, productive NBA career.Parsons averaged 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 61 games last season, statistics skewed by a slow start as he dealt with strict minutes restrictions. He had the best statistical stretch of his five-year career in the two months before his season ended, averaging 18.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game while shooting 51.9 percent from the floor and 47.7 percent from 3-point range and proving he could thrive at power forward in addition to small forward. The 6-foot-9 Parsons rare blend of perimeter shooting accuracy and ability as a creator resulted in a list of suitors that also includes the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers.ESPNs Marc Stein and The Undefeateds Marc J. sh man in the final in Paris since Bunn

PHILADELPHIA -- The offensive line couldnt block, Sam Bradford couldnt protect the football and the defense couldnt bail them out.A sloppy, mistake-prone offense and a special teams breakdown left the Minnesota Vikings unbeaten no more and had coach Mike Zimmer fuming despite his teams 5-1 record.Embarrassing is the word, at least in two of the three phases, Zimmer said after the Eagles beat the Vikings 21-10 Sunday. Im very disappointed.Zimmer was especially critical of his offensive line, which is missing starters Matt Kalil and Andre Smith. Jake Long made his Vikings debut, rotating with T.J. Clemmings and Jeremiah Sirles. We didnt block anybody. They were soft. They were overpowered, Zimmer said. The safety beat the tackle one time and beat the back a couple times. It was basically man-on-man and we got whipped.Bradford had no chance against a fierce pass rush. Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz used the blitz far more than usual against Bradford and it worked. The result was 19 hits on Bradford, six sacks, two recovered fumbles and one interception. They were playing aggressively. They were blitzing a lot. I would, too, Zimmer said. We didnt pick up anybody, so they might as well.Schwartz changed up his game plan because Bradford is familiar with his defense. He faced it every day for a couple of months before he was traded to Minnesota eight days before the season opener. We know that Sam struggles in trapped coverage so we wanted to run it a few times, said safety Rodney McLeod, who had one pick, one sack and one forced fumble.Bradford, who was 7-7 for Chip Kelly in his only season in Philadelphia, heard boos when he ran onto the field and never appeared comfortable. He overthrew a few receivers, made poor decisions and seemed more concerned with avoiding the rush than keeping his eyes on downfield targets. He finished 24 of 41 for 224 yards and threw a touchdown in the final minute. The way we played was unacceptable, Bradford said. We did a lot of things that we didnt do the first five weeks. The things we did will prevent you from winning football games. We have to find a way to not turn the ball over. There were too many self-inflicted wounds. We got to fix that and come out better next week. The Vikings hadnt turned the ball over on offense in 310 snaps before a strange sequence in the first quarter where the teams traded giveaways on five straight series. They couldnt take advantage after Andrew Sendejo intercepted Carson Wentzs pass and returned it 16 yards to the Eagles 2. On third down, Bradford tossed his first pick . Minnesotas next offensive play started at the Eagles 17 after a fumble recovery, but Connor Barwin stripped Bradford on first down and Malcolm Jenkins recovered.Down 18-3, the Vikings couldnt even get a yard on third and fourth down from the Eagles 6 early in the fourth quarter. We felt like everyone was dead out there, receiver Cordarrelle Patterson said. We couldnt get anything going. We felt like we had momentum coming in. We were 5-0 and probably had a little bit of a big head, but things happen. The turning point came early when the Vikings allowed Josh Huff to return a kickoff 98 yards for a score. If youre going to do all those things, you have no chance to win, Zimmer said, running down a list of mistakes.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow Rob Maaddi on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AP-RobMaaddi Miguel Layun Jersey .In my heart and mind Im competing for India, luge competitor Shiva Keshavan told The Associated Press in an email interview. The world No 2 came into Roland Garros with victory at the Rome Masters, and crucially that success came after beating Novak Djokovic for the first time on clay.Murray also reached the final in Madrid where he was the defending champion and he proved he had the game to succeed on the red dirt. The British No 1 might have thought that he may never have a better chance of a third leg of a career Grand Slam, but it ultimately one man stood in his way - Djokovic! Djokovic wins French Open Novak Djokovic beats Andy Murray to win French Open for first time Murray reached the semi-final in two of the last three years (beaten by Nadal in 2014 and Djokovic in 2015) and appeared to be at home in the attritional battle that is clay-court tennis. After all, he did spend formative teenage years at the Sánchez-Casal Academy in Barcelona. But after reaching his first Roland Garros final he lost his 10th major final to world No 1 Djokovic. It was the Scots first time playing for the trophy at Roland Garros and sees his record slide to two wins and eight defeats. Highlights from the Rome Masters Final as Andy Murray faced Novak Djokovic in a repeat of the Madrid Open final a week earlier We delve into the archives and look back at how he has fared in Paris down the years.2006 - First round - lost to Gael Monfils Murray first faced Monfils when they were aged just 10 and 11 respectively at a junior tournament in Rouen - a match the spectacle-wearing Monfils won. This was their first Grand Slam meeting and it was the Parisian-born player who came out on top 6-4 6-7 (2-7) 1-6 6-2 6-1 in the battle of the 19-year-olds. Murray, who was making his French Open debut, was hampered by a back injury and although he battled through the pain-barrier, it was the flamboyant Frenchman who came through to the delight on the home crowd. It just feels really tight, Murray explained afterwards. I couldnt serve. It doesnt help when youre serving about 50 or 60 mph.2008 - Third round - lost to Nicolas Almagro Murray pulled out of the French Open in 2007 due to a wrist injury but returned the following year, recording a five-set victory over French wildcard Jonathan Eysseric to secure his first victory at Roland Garros. With that monkey off his back, the Scotsman wiped the floor with Jose Acasuso before coming up against wily old clay-court specialist Almagro and, despite Murray showing flashes of brilliance, he lost in four sets 6-3 6-7 (3-7) 6-3 7-5. I think I proved I’m a good clay court player, said Murray after the match. You saw by the way that he reacted at the end of the match that it was a tough match. To win against me on clay, it is a very good result - Im not someone that’s going to be taken lightly on this surface in the future. I believe that Im going to be one of the top players on clay in a couple years. I just need a bit more experience, a bit more strength and understanding of how to play and Ill be up there with the best players.2009 - Quarter-final - lost to Fernando Gonzalez This was the year Murray finally put a good run together in Paris. Injury-free and in good form the Briton looked odds-on to reach the final after Robin Soderling conquered Rafael Nadal in the fourth round top open up the draw. Murray had already beaten Juan Ignacio Chela, Potito Starace, Janko Tipsarevic and then Marin Cilic to reach the last eight in the most unpredictable mens French Open in years Murray came up unpredictable player in the top 20 in Chilean Fernando Gonzalez - a former Australian Open finalist.Murray and Gonzalez had played twice heading into their latest encounter, with Gonzalez winning on a Swiss carpet in 2005 and the Briton coming from two sets to one down in the third round of the 2006 US Open. Despite a spirited challenge, Murray went down to a 6-3 3-6 6-0 6-4 loss after being out-muscled by the ferocious force of the 12th seeds forehand on Court Philippe Chatrier. He was spanking winners. You cant do a whole lot about that, said Murray. Hes got the biggest forehand in tennis. 2010 - Fourth round - lost to Tomas Berdych Murray opened his campaign with another classic, fighting back from two sets down to beat Richard Gasquet 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 6-2 6-1 in a gripping battle. Juan Ignacio Chela and Marcos Baghdatis were both beaten in four to set up a meeting with Tomas Berdych for a place in the last eight. On a darkening Court Suzanne Lenglen the British No 1 made a limp exit after being thoroughly outplayed by the 15th-seeded Czech star in a rain-delayed match 6-4 7-5 6-3. It was slow, wet, damp conditions. It was just heavy out there, Murray said. The balls were gathering a lot of clay. The balls were brown by the end of the match. Just tough to see. It was dark in the end. But you cant make excuses about the conditions. Its exactly the same for the both of us. Its just tough conditions to play in, and he played better than me. Murray v Djokovic: The Rivalry Previous meetings between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic 2011 - Semi-final - lost to Rafael Nadal Murrays route to the last four was fairly untroubled without coming up against any of the big name stars, although there was the usual cliffhanger and that came in the last 16. Eric Prodon, Simone Bolelli and Michael Berrer were easily dispatched before he came through a five-set epic against the unpredictable Viktor Troicki to set up a quarter-final against wily campaigner Juan Ignacio Chela. Murray prevailed in straight sets but it was anything but straightforward. Next up was an ultimate test on the Roland Garros clay against five-time champion Rafael Nadal. The 24-year-old Scot converted only three of a bountiful 18 break points created against the Spaniard who ran away with a 6-4 7-5 6-4 success to reach yet another final.dddddddddddd. Rafa is a better player than me on clay and has been since Ive known him. Thats a fact, but I feel Ive closed the gap this year, said the Briton. I have never played him on this court before and its such a big area that when he gets a solid hit on the ball he can work you all over the place.2012 - Quarter-final - lost to David Ferrer Tatsuma Ito, Jarkko Nieminen, Santiago Giraldo and Richard Gasquet were all dispatched for the loss of just two sets as Murray met Mr Consistency David Ferrer for the first time at Roland Garros in the last eight on Court Suzanne Lenglen, looking to forge on to his sixth successive Grand Slam semi-final. The ruthless Spaniard stuck to his game-plan of attacking the Murray backhand, rallying patiently before pouncing on the short ball in a 6-4 6-7 (3-7) 6-3 6-2 win and making sure he would enjoy a good meal on the Champs Elysées that night. The world No 4 made 59 unforced errors and was far too errant on the forehand side. A dispirited and forlorn Murray said: I’m not really, really disappointed. It was a decent tournament. If Im looking at the positives, it was good to get into this position. Will Rafa return? Will Rafa Nadal comeback from his latest injury? 2014 - Semi-final - lost to Rafael NadalAfter Murray withdrew from the tournament in 2013 because of the back injury, he returned the following year still recovering from surgery and looking to regain his form. After defeating Andrey Golubev and Marinko Matosevic, Murray came up against Germanys Philipp Kohlschreiber in the third round. In a cliffhanger of a match, the British No 1, having struggled with a hamstring problem with the match tied at 7-7 in a deciding set shoot-out, the players returned the following day and it was Murray who held his nerve to win 12-10. I didnt sleep much and I woke up quite a few times. I was ready to play at four, five in the morning. I was very nervous. Its not easy coming back at 7-7. It was the first five-set match I played since my surgery After that epic, he made light work of Fernando Verdasco before a bizarre five-set classic against local hero Gael Monfils. Things were all was going swimmingly as he breezed into a two sets lead before the Gael-force hit back and looked in rampant form. A sluggish Murray was on the ropes and ready to go until he picked himself off the dirt to somehow bagel Monfils in 21 minutes and in near darkness to finish the job and reach the last four to the stunned silence of the Chatrier crowd.A drama-filled tournament came to a shuddering halt in the last four for Murray who was thoroughly overwhelmed by a majestic and magnificent Nadal in the blazing Parisian sun 6-3 6-2 6-1. Thats the toughest match Ive played against him, Murray admitted. He was hitting extremely hard, extremely heavy, returning well, and was hitting it well on the run. You cant always control how your opponent plays. There were a few too many sets this week where I could have finished matches quicker. I only have myself to blame for that. Murray won only 10 points (two of which were double faults) in Nadal’s 12 service games and did not have a single break point. It was his heaviest loss in 156 Grand Slam matches since a 6-1 6-3 6-3 defeat to Argentinas Juan Ignacio Chela in the first round of the 2006 Australian Open. Nadal went on to claim his ninth Roland Garros title.2015 - Semi-final - lost to Novak DjokovicMurray followed up his first Roland Garros semi-final in 2014 with another impressive run to the last four in the French capital last year. The British No 1 began his campaign with a routine victory over Argentinian lucky loser Facundo Arguello, losing just seven games along the way.He then lost his first set of the tournament on his way to a four-set triumph over Portugals Joao Sousa before sweeping aside Australian 29th seed Nick Kyrgios.Frances Jeremy Chardy provided Murrays fourth round opposition and the Scot needed to be at his best as Chardy levelled the match at one set all.Murray came through comfortably in the end to set up a quarter-final with 2012 nemesis David Ferrer and after four gruelling sets it was the Brit who emerged victorious to move into the last four for the second successive year,World No 1 Novak Djokovic was the opponent, laying waste to all before him in his run to the semi-final which had seen him record straight sets victories all the way through. When the formidable Serb took the first two sets by the same 6-3 scoreline a routine victory looked on the cards but Murray somehow managed to gather the strength to take the next two 7-5 7-5 to set up a fifth set decider. However, not for the first time, it was Djokovic who was able to steady himself and find the focus to run away with the final set 6-1.2016 - Final - lost to Novak Djokovic Murray achieved something he never thought he would by reaching the final at Roland Garros but it was a familiar story as Djokovic pulled away after a strong start from the Scot to finally complete his set of slam trophies.Victory allowed Djokovic to stretch his winning record over 29-year-old Murray to 24-10 overall and 8-2 in Grand Slams.Murray, the world No 2 and the first British man in the final in Paris since Bunny Austin in 1937, remains with two Grand Slam titles as he failed to become the first winner of the French Open since Fred Perry 81 years ago. The Scot said it sucked to see history being made from the other side of the net - a comment which drew sympathetic cheers and applause from the crowd. He said: Finally, to Novak, this is his day today. What he has achieved the last 12 months is phenomenal, winning all four of the grand slams in one year is an amazing achievement. This is something that is so rare in tennis, it has not happened for an extremely long time and it is going to take a long time for it to happen again. So everyone here who came to watch is obviously extremely lucky to see it. Me personally, being on the opposite side, it sucks to lose the match. But I am proud to have been part of today, so congratulations Novak, well done. Can Murray win the French Open in 2017?
