Former South African wicket-keeper Mark Boucher has been appointed head coach of the Titans franchise for the next two years. Boucher, whose career ended with an eye injury in 2012, replaced Rob Walter, who left the franchise to join New Zealands Otago Volts.Boucher, who has a Level 2 coaching qualification, has not coached before but joined South Africa as a consultant ahead of the ongoing Test series against New Zealand. Boucher worked with the side for three days, with a focus on Quinton de Kocks glovework and the lower-order batting. Boucher will also be with the South African squad for their preparation ahead of the second Test in Centurion, his new home ground.I am stoked by the opportunity to get back into domestic cricket. Upon my retirement, I realised I would not be able to play the game any longer, but to be involved in the capacity as coach of a domestic power house like the Titans is thrilling, Boucher said. The Titans have had a highly successful last two seasons under Walter, in which they have won domestic titles in all three formats. They have also acquired several new players in that time including de Kock and Chris Morris last season along with former Dolphins batsmen Jonathan Vandiar and Daniel Sincuba and Knights seamer Malusi Siboto. Bouchers main task will be to continue building on those results as the franchise looks for more success.I would like to fully utilise the opportunity to develop the skills of the Titans squad even more. Rob has left behind an enormous legacy, and it will be big boots to fill. But my challenge is to leave my own footprint and to make a seamless transition in association with a mature and enormously determined group of stars. Taylor Decker Jersey Retro . A spokesman for Stewart said the 42-year-old driver broke his right tibia and fibula and had surgery after he was transported to a local hospital. An update was expected Tuesday afternoon, and Stewart-Haas Racing did not immediately announce a replacement driver for Stewarts No. 14 Chevrolet at Watkins Glen, where Stewart is a five-time winner. The team did cancel its scheduled Tuesday test at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The sprint car accident came a day after Stewart finished ninth in the NASCAR race at Pocono Raceway. Hes 11th in the Sprint Cup standings with five races to go until the Chase for the championship field is set. Stewart was leading the 30-lap feature in a 360 winged sprint car with five laps remaining when a lapped car spun in Turn 4 and collected Stewart and two others. Race winner Brian Brown told the Des Moines Register he saw the accident in front of him, turned left, hit an infield tire and kept going. "It looked like he got into a lapped car," Brown told The Register. "When I got close, he was flipping cage down. I didnt really have time to watch and see what was going on. "First and foremost, were concerned about Tony and making sure hes all right. Hes a huge asset to our sport, especially sprint car racing and an icon in the whole motorsports field. Anytime you see him wreck like that and then leave in an ambulance, its never good. Hopefully hes OK. We werent going to win that race. We were probably going to run third or fourth." NASCAR Nationwide Series regular Kyle Larson finished second, telling The Register he ducked through the infield to miss the wreck. Its the third time Stewart has wrecked in the last month whille competing in extracurricular races.dddddddddddd Stewart took responsibility for triggering a roughly 10-car accident at Canandaigua (N.Y.) Motorsports Park on July 16 in which 19-year-old Alysha Ruggles suffered a broken vertebra in her back. Last Monday, in a sprint car race at Ohsweken Speedway in Ontario, Stewart rolled his car five times but walked away. He stayed at the track to compete in the World of Outlaws race the next night and bristled at the NASCAR event at Pocono Raceway last weekend when asked about his harrowing incident in Canada. "You mortals have got to learn, you guys need to watch more sprint car videos and stuff," he said Friday at Pocono. "It was not a big deal. Its starting to get annoying this week about that. That was just an average sprint car wreck. When they wreck, they get upside down like that." Stewart gave an impassioned defence of sprint car racing in June following the death of good friend Jason Leffler, who was killed in an accident at Bridgeport Speedway in Swedesboro, N.J. "Id be grateful if you guys would understand that what happened this week wasnt because somebody didnt do something right with the race track. It was an accident. Just like if you go out and theres a car crash. Its an accident," Stewart said days after Lefflers death. "Nobody as a track owner wants to go through what happened, but its not due to a lack of effort on their part to try to make their facilities as safe as possible under the conditions they have." On Sunday, veteran sprint car driver Kramer Williamson died from injuries suffered during a qualifying race at Lincoln Speedway in central Pennsylvania. Williamson, 63, of Palmyra, was pronounced dead at York Hospital from serious injuries suffered in a crash that occurred Saturday night during the United Racing Company 358/360 Sprint Car Challenge. USA Soccer Jerseys 2019 . PETERSBURG, Fla. NEW YORK -- The Connecticut Suns playoff chances are setting. With just four games left, they sit in 10th place after an 89-82 loss to the New York Liberty on Friday night. We might need a little divine intervention, said Chiney Ogwumike, who scored 20 points for the Sun. We have to take care of business, handle business win games. This was a huge game for us, but we played hard. The Sun (11-19) are two games behind Phoenix for the final playoff spot and will need a lot of help even if they do win their final few games to avoid missing the postseason for a fourth straight year. To make matters worse, they traded their first round pick in the 2017 draft to Los Angeles to acquire Jonquel Jones before this season started. While Connecticut is on the outside looking in, New York has already clinched the No. 3 seed. The Liberty (21-10) hope to use the final few games to get healthy. They were down to eight healthy players against Connecticut with Shoni Schimmel (concussion), Tanisha Wright (knee), Kiah Stokes (hip) and Shavonte Zellous (back) all sidelined.Thats the most important thing to get healthy, said Tina Charles, who led the team with 23 points and 10 rebounds. The Liberty rebounded from a disappointing loss to Seattle on Wednesday when they were blown out at home.We need to find a level where were consistent, Charles said. We have to know how to get ourselves out of situations when things arent going our way.The Sun didnt go down without a fight.dddddddddddd Every time that it seemed New York was in control, Connecticut would battle back. The Liberty led by six at the half, and opened up a double-digit advantage early in the fourth before the Sun got within 78-76 with 4:39 left.New York scored the next seven points, capped by a 3-pointer by Epiphanny Prince to finally put the game away.Courtney Williams scored a career-high 20 points.Charles, who played four years in Connecticut before being traded to New York before the 2014 season, has excelled against her former team. She matched her career-high 32 points earlier this season. She was well on her way to that mark again with 17 in the first half on Friday. After one basket where she also drew a foul, the Madison Square Garden fans, which included U.S. track star Tori Bowie, started chanting MVP. Charles dad led the cheers while holding up a sign with his daughters No. 31 on it.Im not all about that. Im not about all that flashy stuff, thats for his enjoyment, Charles said. I love that hes very supportive. He didnt do it any other season. He only did it in 2012 (when Charles won MVP). It just shows he knows my game and knows when Im playing at a certain level and thats the level of respect I have for my father. Thats one of the reason I wanted to play here. So that he could have those moments. ' ' '

MEXICO CITY -- Dressed in their classic silver and black uniforms, the Raiders players huddle before kickoff. After words of encouragement and a prayer, the teenagers finish with head butts, shoulder slaps and a battle cry: Uno, dos, tres... vamos! This is, after all, south of the border, where football has a century-old tradition, rivals soccer in popularity and millions of kids like the Raiders de Arboleda play futbol americano -- American football -- every weekend. The NFL returns to Mexico after an 11-year absence when the Texans face the Raiders in a regular season game on Nov. 21 in sold-out Azteca Stadium. For the Mexican Raiders and others across the country, football is part of Mexican sports tradition as much as soccer, boxing and lucha libre.Football gives you the chance to take your passion to the field, to hit people and not get fined, said Raiders quarterback Gabriel Anaya, 16. Maybe thats why its so popular. The NFL has around 25 million fans in Mexico, the biggest number outside of the U.S., and its base is still growing, said Arturo Olive, director of the NFL office in Mexico. The league sponsors 6,500 teams in youth programs in 27 of 32 Mexican states, and estimates 2.5 million kids play flag football in elementary schools.Eight years ago, we played in only six states and had 120 teams, Olive said. The growth has been exponential. In a country steeped in soccer culture, and one that has hosted two FIFA World Cups, the love affair with football might be surprising. But Mexico has two popular college leagues with 36 teams, a six-team professional league, and up to 10 NFL games are on basic cable each week. The local soccer league has nine games each week, and not all of them are on TV.Fans can even watch the Thursday and Monday night games at the movie theater. Soccer gets the big-screen treatment only for World Cup matches.I also used to play soccer, Anaya said, but preferred this sport.Football was introduced in the country in 1896 by Mexican students returning home from U.S. colleges. They brought back an oval shaped ball, said Alejandro Morales, a local football historian and founder of Mexicos football hall of fame. He said the first official match was played that year in the city of Jalapa in the Gulf state of Veracruz, where the students and their friends faced a team of American sailors from a U.S. ship anchored in the nearby port.Soon after, several teams were created in Veracruz and eventually the sport spread to Mexico City and local colleges. UNAM, the national state university with over 200,000 students, started playing in the 1920*s, and by the 50s, most of the Mexican colleges where playing the game that, at the time, rivaled soccer in popularity. UNAMs famed Estadio Olimpico, site of the 1968 Summer Olympics, was used mainly for football in the first decade after its inauguration in 1950.Back then, football used to share the spotlight with soccer, Morales said. Eventually that faded, because football was not seen as a business. It was played in college and they just wanted to help the students, while soccer was run by professionals.Although football fell behind soccer, it remained hugely popular. The NFL noticed and on Aug. 5th, 1978, the Philadelphia Eagles played the New Orleans Saints in a preseason game in Mexico City. Some 30,000 fans packed the home of the Cruz Azul soccer team to watch the Saints 14-7 win in the first NFL game south of the border, and only the second played outside of the U.S. or Canada. The NFL returned 16 years later, when the Houston Oilers played the Dallas Cowboys in Azteca Stadium in the first of six preseason American Bowls hosted by Mexico. The last was in 2001, when the Raiders played the Cowboys in the same venue. The first regular season game was played in 2005, when the Arizona Cardinals played the San Francisco 49ers in front of 103,467 fans in Azteca Stadium, then an NFL record. Since 2007, the league has held games annually in Great Britain -- including three each season since 2014 -- but never returned to Mexico, until now.We were ready when the opportunity presented itself, said Olive, who has run the NFL Mexico office since 2008. Now we have a commitment to be successful with a game of this magnitude.Azteca Stadium, built in 1966 and home to the popular soccer club America, underwent several renovations to meet NFL standards, including new locker rooms exclusive for the football teams, new ramps and improved communication systems. The size decreased from 100,000 to 84,000 to improve seating, and all tickets were sold out in less than two hours, Olive said. Most fans will be rooting for the Raiders, the fifth most-popular team in Mexico behind the Steelers, Cowboys, Patriots and 49ers, according to the NFL.Among them will be Anaya and his friends from the Raiders team in Arboleda, a suburb north of this sprawling metropolis.A lot of players on the team have been playing here since they were little kids and are Raider fans, Anaya said, so they are very excited about the game.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL Jason Kidd Jersey . He lit up camp after putting this subtle juke move on a safety during Thursdays practice.Linwood missed the Bears bowl game last season witth a fractured foot, but it looks like the injury has healed just fine as the 2016 season gets closer.dddddddddddd ' ' '

TORONTO - Nazem Kadri isnt too worried about the state of contract talks with the Toronto Maple Leafs. "Its been good," the restricted free agent said Friday. "I mean, were in conversation and theres still some work to be done, but were talking and thats the most important thing." Kadri spent part of Friday at the Mastercard Centre watching some of the on-ice action as the teams annual prospects camp wrapped up with a pair of practices. The young centre was asked to assess the latest moves made by his team namely the signing of David Clarkson on July 5 and the trade for David Bolland at the draft. "Its always tough to see some of your good friends leave and thats the hardest part about this business, but I do feel like we upgraded bringing in Clarkson, Bolland, just veteran guys that can bring a lot to the dressing room and on the ice." Kadri is excited about the possibility of playing with Clarkson on the teams second line next season. "Hes an agitator that definitely gets under a lot of peoples skin and thats kind of our identity and [coach] Randy [Carlyle] has been building it up and, obviously, want to be that tough team to play against." One game after a miserable showing in Oklahoma City, Gay tied a career high with 41 points and the Sacramento Kings cruised to a 114-97 victory at the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night. Tom Brady announced Friday that he will not appeal his four-game Deflategate suspension to the U.S. Supreme Court, saying in a message on his Facebook page that he will no longer proceed with the legal process. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan rejected Bradys latest appeal of the suspension Wednesday, meaning that his last hope to avoid serving the suspension would be to appeal to the Supreme Court. While I was disappointed with the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decision not to rehear Tom Bradys case, I am most frustrated that Tom was denied his right to a fair and impartial process, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft said in a statement Friday. The leagues investigation into a football pressure matter was flawed and biased from the start, and has been discredited nearly unanimously by accredited academics and scientists. The penalty imposed by the NFL was unprecedented, unjust and unreasonable, especially given that no empirical or direct evidence of any kind showed Tom did anything to violate League rules prior to, during or after the 2015 AFC Championship Game. What Tom has had to endure throughout this 18-month ordeal has been, in my opinion, as far removed from due process as you could ever expect in this country.Although Brady indicated that he has dropped out of the appeal process, the NFL Players Association said in a statement that it still might petition the ruling to the Supreme Court. After careful consideration and discussion with Tom Brady, the NFLPA will not be seeking a stay of the four game suspension with the 2nd Circuit, the unions statement said. This decision was made in the interest of certainty and planning for Tom prior to the New England Patriots season. We will continue to review all of our options and we reserve our rights to petition for cert to the Supreme Court.A source told ESPNs Adam Schefter that the union is?expected to petition for cert, asking the Supreme Court to review the decision, in an effort to challenge NFL commissioner Roger Goodells power. The ruling Wednesday was a one-sentennce rejection of requests by the NFLPA and Brady to reconsider an April decision that found that Goodell acted within his powers by suspending the Patriots star quarterback for his role in a scheme to doctor footballs used in a January 2015 playoff game.ddddddddddddFrom day one, I have believed in Tom and given him my unwavering support in his pursuit to rightfully clear his name of any wrongdoing, Kraft said in his statement. That support extends throughout our organization and has only grown more steadfast as the preponderance of scientific evidence has exonerated Tom. Unfortunately, this stopped being about air pressure a long time ago. This entire process has indelibly taken a toll on our organization, our fans and most importantly, Tom Brady. His reluctant decision to stop pursuing further action and to put this situation behind him is what he feels is best for the team in preparation for this season and is fully supported by me and our entire organization.Brady will miss the Patriots first four games this season against the Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills. He is expected to make his regular-season debut in Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns.News that Brady would accept the suspension did nothing to dampen the public perception of his team. The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook still has the Patriots as the favorites to win Super Bowl 51.What began as an accusation of cheating in the AFC Championship Game has grown into a multimillion-dollar legal battle over three NFL seasons involving not just an MVP quarterback but also some of the elite lawyers and scientists in the country. As it developed, it evolved from a dispute about the air pressure in footballs into a referendum on the powers of a sports commissioner and the right of all unionized employees to due process in a disciplinary hearing.ESPNs Mike Reiss, ESPNs Ben Fawkes and The Associated Press contributed to this report. Never has Blake Austin felt as nervous as he did before Canberras history-making NRL semi-final win over Penrith on Saturday night. It was his first NRL game in almost a month, having broken his hand at training in the week of their round 25 clash with Manly. The five-eighth had two metal plates and 16 screws inserted, and only last week completed his first full contact session before getting clearance on Friday to play his former club.I was obviously pretty confident my hand was going to hold up, but training is nothing like a game and I was nervous I was going to let the boys down, he said.I was scared. If I went out there and had to come off early from the hand, Id never forgive myself.Austin said even his wife, Gillian, could sense the stress at home.I had some different nerves to what I normally get before a game heading in, he said. But I got through it and really glad I did.Now I can go to Melbourne and have full confidence that I can get through a game through my hand ... without any fear.Austin showed no fear whatsoever in the 22-12 victory at GIO Stadium on Saturday night, scoring the first try of the game with his trademark dummy and step in the 11th minute.By then, the 25-year-old had well and truly overcome the nerves - which he said disappeared after his first tackle. You have your reservations I suppose, but once I could get that out of the way and it held up well, I was pretty confident, he said.(It was) good to get another try and get my running game back.Austin sent a scare in the first half when he rolled his ankle and was limping heavily. But he carried on and is confident that, if he follows the lead of hooker Josh Hodgson who made a miraculous recovery from a similar injury suffered last week, he will be fully fit for next Saturdays grand final qualifier against the Storm at AAMI Park.Youve just got to get on with it, he said.Ill probably take a leaf out of Hodgos book and make sure I really look after it throughout the week. Its certainly not as severe as his, but Ill just look after it. McCarthy, a player who played some games in the second tier for Wigan at the start of this season, would go on to shine inside Evertons midfield, outplaying the man he was brought in to replace, on one of the grandest stages in English football. On Saturday, it was fitting that Manchester Uniteds most recent dagger into the chest was delivered by Frenchman Yohan Cabaye, a wonderfully gifted central midfielder who put on an outstanding effort for Newcastle at Old Trafford. https://www.cheapblackhawks.com/947b-jeff-hackett-jersey-blackhawks.html . Los Angeles star goalie survived those perilous gymnastics with no problem, and he eventually backstopped the Kings to a skid-snapping win. Quick stopped 27 shots in his return from a 24-game injury absence, Jeff Carter scored the tiebreaking goal with 7:55 to play, and the Kings snapped their five-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. Chicago Blackhawks Shirts . LOUIS -- Cardinals cleanup hitter Allen Craig says hes recovered from a foot injury and ready to be put on St. Doug Gilmour Jersey .C. -- Todd Fiddler scored a hat trick, including the overtime goal, as the Prince George Cougars survived an 8-7 win against the Kamloops Blazers in Western Hockey League play Sunday. BRADENTON, Fla. -- Miomir Kecmanovic projects the exact confidence you would expect to see from someone who has the potential to become a star in the tennis universe. The No. 1 junior player in the world, Kecmanovic has captured two prestigious tournaments in recent weeks and is set to begin his professional career next month. Everything seems to be pointing toward future success, and the 17-year-old Serbian is ready to accept the challenge.Kecmanovic, along with his management and coaching team, has a methodical plan in mind for the upcoming year. He will begin playing in Futures tournaments in Florida. When he proves himself at that level, he will graduate to ATP Challenger Tour events. He might seek to play in a couple ATP Tour events as a wild card, but there is no desire to cut corners. The goal for 2017 is to achieve steady progress. My goal would be to win a Future, and to get into the top 300, Kecmanovic said in an interview at his IMG Academy training base. That would be the goal. I think thats realistic, and if I play good in the second part of the year, maybe I can go even further than that.IMG coach Jose Lambert agreed that those objectives are attainable and noted that Kecmanovic already boasts skills that compare favorably to the worlds top 100 players. If Kecmanovic remains healthy and plays a full schedule, Lambert sees no reason the Serbian prodigy cant make a leap similar to the one fellow IMG trainee Michael Mmoh enjoyed this year.Hes been chasing Mike, whos now No. 198 in the world and is only a year older, Lambert said. Hes looking at that and where he wants to be a year from now.Kecmanovic is also aware that former No. 1 juniors Alexander Zverev (2013) and Taylor Fritz (2015) rapidly ascended the ATP rankings after turning pro. Zverev climbed to No. 136 in the world by the end of 2014, moved up to No. 83 in 2015 and currently sits at No. 24. Fritz rose as high as No. 53 a few months ago and currently sits at No. 76.Those guys are playing very good, and its tough to do what they did, Kecmanovic said. Everybody has their own path. Ill just worry about next year and try to do my best, play without pressure and see how far I can get.Earlier this month, Kecmanovic captured the title at the Eddie Herr International Junior Championship and won the Orange Bowl Boys 18s singles title for the second year in a row. He lost only one set over the course of 12 matches at those events. Those achievements came on the heels of reaching the quarterfinals at two September futures events in California. To build on those successes, Kecmanovic wants to improve his conditioning and get better at the tactical aspects of the game that are so important against elite opponents, such as reading the opponent, knowing his tendencies and being able to adapt during a match. While Kecmanovic is doing that, his Vienna-based agent, Alexei Nikolaev, will begin weighing endorsement offers with an eye toward establishing his brand in the United States first.ddddddddddddWhat he accomplished this year just shows that he is a great fighter, said Nikolaev. As a personality, I think he is mature enough to cope with any challenge. He is very motivated. He is not afraid of anything.Kecmanovic started playing tennis at age 6: He was bored on a family trip to the Mount Zlatibor resort area in Serbia, so his grandparents took him to the courts. Within a few years, he was winning tournaments and began to dream about becoming a professional someday. He kept playing and kept winning, and Nikolaev eventually discovered him at a 2013 tournament in Moscow. Kecmanovic had strained his neck in practice a few days earlier, and it was questionable as to whether he would be able to compete. No matter, he won the tournament anyway.Months later, right around the time he turned 14, Kecmanovic moved to Florida to train full time at IMG Academy and began instruction with Lambert. While there are obvious challenges to growing up 5,000 miles away from home, he still talks on a daily basis with his parents, Dragutin and Maja, both of whom are surgeons in Belgrade. Kecmanovic entered an English-language school in first grade and speaks it fluently. Hes now one year away from earning his Serbian high school diploma through online classes.I dont think they were too happy about me going so far away at such an early age, said Kecmanovic, who is an only child. But I think they knew that was the best opportunity that I could get to become a good tennis player. Now after three years of working together on the court, Lambert said Kecmanovic has all the tools needed to succeed at the next level. Its just a matter of continuing to improve as he matures physically.I think he loves his tennis, Lambert said. He owns it. He has a lot of great aspirations, great habits, great support. I feel like he really, really wants to do his best.Kecmanovic has gotten to know fellow Belgrade native Novak Djokovic at Grand Slam events in recent years. The 12-time major winner has hit shots a couple times with his younger countryman and offered advice on his game. But Kecmanovics interest in Djokovic goes beyond their shared hometown.I love how he plays, Kecmanovic said. I like his style. I admire his mental toughness -- that when everything is against him, he can always find that extra bit of energy to win and prove hes the best. The future is wide open for Kecmanovic, but his success to this point doesnt appear to have gone to his head. When asked where he might want to live if he becomes a top player someday, he was cautious not to get ahead of himself.Ill just stay focused until I get there, said Kecmanovic, who will remain based in Florida for the foreseeable future. Then we can pick where Im going to live. ' ' '

The host Tigers dropped their first set on Friday, before rebounding with three consecutive set triumphs.Redshirt junior Melanie Crow (Wildwood, Mo.) starred for Mizzous offense against Auburn, posting a team-leading 22 kills on .362 hitting. The Tiger outside hitter also added nine digs and two solo blocks to round out an impressive overall match.Junior Courtney Eckenrode (The Woodlands, Texas) stepped up at setter on Friday evening, tallying 45 assists and 11 digs. It marked her fifth double-double of the season, including her seventh 40-plus assist match of the year.Sophomore Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) also starred individually for the host Tigers, as she recorded nine kills on .500 hitting with a match-high four total blocks. Munlyns efficient offensive night marked her fifth match in SEC play of hitting .500 or better this season. After a disappointing first set, Mizzou rebounded in a big way with three consecutive set victories. The black and gold Tigers tallied 16 kills on .342 hitting in the second set, followed by an outstanding 14 kills on .444 hitting performance in the third set.Mizzous defense posted 10.0 total blocks against Auburn, highlighted by a match-high six total blocks in the fourth set. Crow, senior Emily Thater (Springfield, Mo.) and Munlyn each recorded solo blocks to key the Tigers defensive effort in the final set. MONTREAL -- It took a goal from the penalty spot by Patrice Bernier to spare the Montreal Impact from crashing to a second straight defeat at home. The veteran midfielders goal in the 80th minute gave the Impact a 1-1 MLS draw with lowly Chivas USA on Sunday night. The Impact (9-4-4) lead the Eastern Conference with 31 points, but are 0-1-2 in their last three games, including a 4-3 loss to Colorado in their previous home game last week. "Its not our greatest period, but these things happen," said Bernier. "We have to refocus, regroup, and find some energy. "We have some tough games coming up and that will be a good challenge." Eric Avila, recently returned from a trial with Mexican club Guadalajara, scored for Chivas (3-10-4), the last-place team in the Western Conference. Chivas has gone 13 games without a win dating to a 2-1 victory over Vancouver on March 30. On paper, they were easy pickings for Montreals high-powered attack, which leads the league despite having played fewer games than most MLS clubs. But on the field, Chivas played a thorough and patient defensive game while the Impact wasted several good chances. "Its nice to come back and get a point," added Bernier. "In the end these little points will count. "But we wasted enough chances that we could have had a two-goal lead. But thats football." Chivas opened a three-game road trip with a 0-0 draw in Dallas and will be looking to add more points when they visit Toronto FC on Wednesday night. Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, who stopped Marco Di Vaio and Felipe Martins on early point-blank chances, sees his team getting stronger under new coach Jose Luis Real. "We knew this would be a tough game and we came prepared and we put in a smart performance," said Kennedy. "We didnt leave ourselves too vulnerable. "We stayed compact and limited their chances. It was a great point for us." Bernier used his signature stutter-step move to score from the spot after Mario De Luna took down Sanna Nyaassi on the left edge of the penalty area.dddddddddddd The Impact have struggled on defence, allowing eight goals in their last three outings, and it surfaced once again as low-scoring Chivas got the first goal in the 55th minute. After Hassoun Camara lost the ball near the halfway line, a Jose Correa cross into the middle looked to put Montreal in panic mode. Jorge Villafana blasted a left-footed shot off the bar and Avila was there to put in the rebound from the edge of the penalty area. It was the one setback in an otherwise better defensive performance than their last two outings. And it was their second comeback draw in a row after tying 3-3 in Toronto during the week. Coach Marco Schallibaum called it a good effort and added "the balance was better today. "There are no easy games in this league. We had a lot of good chances but the goalie made some god saves. We are also missing some of the lucky punch we had before. But we went for the win at the end." Montreal outshot Chivas 18-8, including 8-3 in shots on goal. Substitute Andrew Wenger had two good chances in the dying minutes, but put one shot just wide and the other was stopped by Kennedy. Chivas defender Carlos Borja took a yellow card but saved an almost certain goal when he pulled Di Vaio down from behind just outside the area in the 39th minute. Montreal reached the halfway mark of their season. After 17 games as an expansion team in 2012, they were 5-9-3 for 18 points. Notes: The Impact brought Davy Arnaud and Bernier out of the starting 11 in favour of Nyassi and Collen Warner. Warner played his 50th career MLS game, while Bernier went on in the 68th minute for a team-leading 33rd straight appearance. . . Matteo Ferrari wore the captains armband. . . Schallibaum was back after serving his third one-game suspension Wednesday in Toronto.. . Tristan Bowen (suspension) and Julio Morales (national team duty) returned for Chivas but didnt start. . . Chivas beat Montreal 2-1 in their only meeting last year in Carson, Calif. ' ' '

Galileo Gold gave Palmer his first English Classic succes

Erstellt 27.12.2019 15:45 von MJL456 27.12.2019 15:45 In der Kategorie Allgemein.

The games are still composed of nine innings and 27 outs. There are still 90 feet between bases, and .300 has always been a benchmark of accomplishment for hitters. But one longtime pitcher who started his career in the 1990s laughed off the idea that you could possibly compare the game he played with the brand of baseball that occurred 100 years ago.If you look back at pictures of those games, the catcher is standing up, he said. Do you think that strike zone is the same size as it is now?Nope. This is why measuring players of today against those who played a century ago is ridiculously imprecise, unfair and mostly an empty exercise. But its also a lot of fun. With that caveat: My top 10 players of all time.10. Rickey HendersonWhen Henderson was up for election for the Hall of Fame in 2009, it was shocking ?he was left off the ballots of 28 voters. Its just as stunning that he is not higher on this list. The aim of every game is to score as many runs as possible, and Henderson did that more than anyone -- 2,295 in his career. He reached base more than 5,000 times. He stole 1,406 bases --?over 500 more than Ty Cobb. He hit 297 homers. He won a Gold Glove Award. He is one of the best players of all time.9. Lou GehrigHe played alongside Babe Ruth in the 1920s and 30s, and yet he was so great he managed to distinguish himself long before the onset of the illness that would take his life. Gehrig hit for a high average -- .340 in his career --?and he had about 50 percent more extra-base hits than he did strikeouts. Gehrig finished in the top 10 in the MVP voting in nine seasons, and while playing in seven World Series, he batted .361 with an OPS of more than 1.200. And he didnt miss a game for almost 14 years. Think about that.8. Ty CobbIn some of the oral histories from players of Cobbs generation, there are many references to his personality --?how disliked he was, how difficult he could be. That conversation about Cobb has come to overshadow just how great a player he was, in spite of his other faults, with 4,189 hits and?a .366 career batting average, which is the greatest of all time. Think about this: He won the American League batting title in all but one season from 1907 through 1919, and until Rickey Hendersons arrival, Cobb held the MLB record for stolen bases with 897.7. Stan MusialThe Cardinals Musial formed the most perfect statistic in MLB history. During his career, Musial generated 1,815 hits in home games and 1,815 hits on the road. Thats 3,630 in all, which was the most in National League history before Pete Rose broke it. Stan The Man also ranks in the top 10 all time in runs, RBI and doubles, among others.6. Walter JohnsonHis peers liked and respected him, yet they feared him as well because of how hard he threw and how he dominated, even while pitching for mostly forgettable teams between 1907 and 1927. He led the American League in strikeouts in 12 seasons and in ERA?during five seasons, including the year he turned 36. Only Cy Young compiled more victories, and Big Train threw nearly 6,000 innings, rolling on and on.5. Ted WilliamsThere could be a robust argument about who the actual forefathers of this era of analytics were. But all moneyball DNA could probably be traced back to Williams, who seemed to have the earliest understanding of on-base percentage before it was called that. He continues to inspire hitters into the current generation, including Joey Votto. Either he or Barry Bonds should be viewed as the greatest hitters of all time.4. Barry BondsHe might not gain induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame, but if you asked most players from the 90s and early 2000s about the best player they ever saw -- and Ive had a lot of those kinds of conversations with a lot of players -- the vast majority would say Bonds. Tony Gwynn once told me he believed Bonds eyesight was so good that he could identify pitch types while the ball was still in the pitchers hand.3. Babe RuthHis greatest value to baseball wasnt necessarily in his production but in how he captured the imagination of a nation with his power and his personality. He drove baseball beyond the 1919 Black Sox scandal and into a new realm with all of the home runs he hit, creating generations of fans at a time when baseball was, in fact, Americas pastime. But its difficult to put him at the top of this list when he played in an era of segregation.2. Hank AaronAaron will be remembered forever for all of the home runs, of course, and some baseball fans will continue to regard him as the home run king because of Bonds association with performance-enhancing drugs. But he won Gold Gloves, a couple of batting titles, stole 240 bases and finished in the top 10 in the MVP voting in 13 seasons. He scored 2,174?times and drove in a record 2,297 runs. The consistency of his excellence is almost unimaginable now. Think about what it takes to compile 755 homers.1. Willie MaysHe might be as close to a perfect player as weve ever seen in baseball, with the power -- he finished his career third all time in home runs -- and the speed and the defense. Scouts will talk about five-tool players, and Mays was great at everything. He led the National League in homers four times and in steals four times, won 12 Gold Gloves and finished in the top 10 for the MVP 12 times. Wendell Tyler Jersey .ca look back at each of the Top 10 stories of 2013. Today, we look back at Boston Strong - a citys recovery from tragedy. Jerry Rice Jersey . Spencer Abbott also scored in the shootout for the Marlies (25-13-4). https://www.49ersjerseysale.com/2272l-vic-washington-jersey-49ers.html . Denis Coderre, the former federal MP who was elected mayor on Nov. 3, has drawn the ire of some Montreal Canadiens. During last nights game he tweeted: "Hello? Can we get a one-way ticket to (minor-league) Hamilton for David Desharnais please. Jeff Garcia Jersey . -- In one brief spurt, Brazil turned a close game into a rout and proved again it will be a strong World Cup favourite. J. T. OSullivan Jersey . Aduriz headed home Markel Susaetas cross in the sixth minute to open the scoring at San Mames Stadium. He bettered that with a long-range blast that went in off the goal frame in the 18th, and converted a penalty in the 72nd after Diego Mainz was sent off for fouling Aduriz with only the goalkeeper to beat.Hugo Palmer will let the dust settle before deciding whether to target Galileo Gold at the Investec Derby or stay at a mile with the Newmarket hero. Galileo Gold gave Palmer his first English Classic success with a resounding performance in the Qipco 2000 Guineas on Saturday and the trainer now has the difficult, but enviable, problem of where to go next. While Palmer would naturally prefer to win the Irish 2,000 Guineas rather than try and fail at Epsom, he is keeping the options open for the time being. The question everyone is asking is whether he will now go for the Derby, Palmer told www.betfair.com.My dream is to win the Derby, but my job is to do the right thing for the horse. And I would rather win an Irish 2,000 Guineas than finish sixth at Epsom. But his pedigree gives you some hope that he will stay - he is out of a Galileo mare and from the family of Montjeu - and they say that the Guineas is the best trial for the Derby. And you couldnt get a better trial than yesterdays victory.Knee-jerk reactions could end up misleading people so the best thing to do is to let the dust settle and discuss our options, and make the right decision. But if we did decide to go to Epsom, I imagine that he would go straight there. He had plenty of racing at two and was having his first race since October yesterday, so I think three runs in a moonth would be pushing it.ddddddddddddBut if we do go, I would like the horse to take part in the Breakfast With The Stars, as I think a sight and feel of the track and the paddock beforehand would be invaluable.Galileo Golds jockey Frankie Dettori is glad the team have not to make their mind up just yet.The feeling he gave me yesterday tells me hes probably ready for 10 furlongs. Im glad we dont have to make a decision between Epsom and Royal Ascot just yet and I wouldnt dare tell Hugo what to do anyway, Dettori told www.ladbrokes.com.If you forced me to make a call now Id say that for Epsom you need a top-class horse and I think Galileo Gold is top class so maybe Id lean towards a crack at the Derby.I dont want to give up my Derby crown without a fight, but the big question is whether hell be ready for a mile and a half in less than five weeks. It could be touch and go, so Royal Ascot (St Jamess Palace Stakes) has to be in the mix. pointed out the tiny string bracelet on Lairds wrist after the winning

PHILADELPHIA -- With just one prior shootout attempt on his NHL resume, defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere took his own advice Tuesday night to score the game-winning goal against Tuukka Rask in the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins.I really noticed his hands were low, so I said Im going to go in there and just chip one high, Gostisbehere said after netting the decisive goal in the ninth round of the shootout. Thankfully, it worked out. He got a piece of it, but it had enough to get in there.Steve Mason made 45 saves through overtime, and defenseman Michael Del Zotto and center Claude Giroux scored in regulation for the Flyers, who won their second straight to improve to 11-10-3.Mase was the best player on the ice tonight, Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said. He got the two points tonight; it was a heck of a performance from him.David Krejci and Brad Marchand had the goals for the Bruins (12-10-1), who lost for the fourth time in five games. Rask turned aside 19 shots and seven of nine attempts in the tiebreaker. He also denied Jakub Voraceks third-period penalty shot to keep the score tied, but eventually dropped to 12-4-1.We feel like we played all right all three periods, said Bruins forward David Pastrnak, stopped five times by Mason. We had an awesome game. (Almost) 20 shots in the first period and at the end of the game we had 47.Both goalies were outstanding in overtime. Mason snatched a shot by Krejci with about 30 seconds remaining, and Rask slid to his right to stop Girouxs one-timer.After falling behind 2-0 on first-period goals by Del Zotto and Giroux, the Bruins tied it on third-period tallies by Krejci and Marchand just 1:18 apart.Krejci spoiled Masons shutout bid 4:26 into the third when he one-timed a pass from defenseman Torey Krug through Mason for his third goal of the season and first since Nov. 13.With the teams skating 4-on-4, Marchand found space in the crease and jammed Krugs rebound under Mason for his seventh goal of the season, second on the Bruins behind Pastrnaks 13.It shows character that you can come back in the third period being down 2-0, Rask said. We played real good in the third. So that is a positive. A point is a point and we will take it.The Flyers had a chance to regain the lead at the 6:23 mark when Voracek was hooked from behind by Bruins defenseman Joe Morrow and awarded a penalty shot. Rask got his right pad on Voraceks attempt to keep the score 2-all.The Flyers also failed to score on a third-period power play after Marchand was called for roughing Giroux with 6:36 remaining. The Bruins were held silent on their own power play following a tripping penalty to Flyers rookie Travis Konecny.Ranked second in the NHL in goals and shots, the Flyers opened the game with 19 first-period shots on Rask and scored on two of them when Del Zotto and Giroux netted goals 1:32 apart.Del Zottos goal was his second of the season and came on a rising slap shot from the left point that beat Rask over his right shoulder with 6:04 remaining in the period.Bruins forward Austin Czarnik was whistled for slashing just 4 seconds after Del Zottos goal, and Boston defenseman Brandon Carlo made things worse for the Bruins when he broke his stick. The Flyers connected when Giroux snapped a pass from Voracek past Rask for his fifth goal of the season and fourth on the power play.Girouxs goal also snapped a nine-game drought. It was the third time in four games the Bruins, who rank fourth in the NHL in penalty killing, allowed a power-play goal. The Bruins carried a 30-15 shots advantage into the third period.Game notes Bruins D John-Michael Liles sat out with a concussion sustained Sunday when he crashed headfirst into the boards. D Zdeno Chara missed his fourth straight game with a lower-body injury. As a result, D Kevan Miller played in his fourth game of the season and Morrow played in his ninth. ... The Flyers second-ranked power play has scored in 15 of their 24 games this season. ... Claude Julien coached his 727th game for the Bruins, moving him past Milt Schmidt and into sole possession of second place on the franchise list behind Art Ross (772).UP NEXTFlyers: Visit the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night.Bruins: Host the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night. The parade and rally were held to celebrate the Saskatchewan Roughriders 45-23 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Sunday in the CFLs championship game. Nobody likes losing. Even the most gracious among us still burns a little inside when she comes up on the wrong side of a final score. But not all losses are the same. Letting your kid beat you in H-O-R-S-E every once in a while only mildly stings. A good, solid clobbering?when you were vastly outplayed can sometimes be easy to brush off. Heck, a moral victory against a heavy favorite might even send you out for some celebratory ice cream post-defeat.But there are some losses that leave a pit in your stomach for days. Losses that feel like theyll stick with you forever. Not your run-of-the-mill buzzer-beaters or the times you came up short on an opponents otherworldly play. Nah, these are the real dark and twisty losses -- not just that you lost, but the way you lost.Take, for instance, the San Francisco Giants loss on Saturday night. With the game tied 6-6 in the 10th inning, San Francisco reliever Santiago Casilla tripped midpitch, stumbling down the front of the mound and giving the Padres a walk-off balk win. An extra-innings contest decided by a spike caught in the dirt? Just brutal. In fact, a walk-off balk is probably the worst possible way to lose a baseball game.Which got me thinking: What are the absolute worst ways to lose? And what are some of the most unfortunate losses weve seen in recent years?I think the most obvious of all crushing losses has to be the Chris Webber game. You all know how it went. With Michigan down 73-71 in the final seconds of the 1993 NCAA title game, Webber attempted to call timeout but his team had none remaining, and the ensuing technical foul clinched the win for UNC. The Tar Heels may have won anyway, but Webber will forever wonder. But lets get to something a little more recent. Just last week, in fact, when the USGA bungled the handling of a penalty in the U.S. Womens Open. Brittany Lang and Anna Nordqvist were tied on the second hole of a three-hole aggregate playoff when Nordqvist disrupted one or two tiny grains of sand, grounding her club in a fairway bunker. USGA officials didnt learn of the infraction until later during the hole -- and only due to super slo-mo, zoomed-in replays shown by high-definition television cameras. Nordqvist wasnt informed of the two-stroke penalty she received until after shed hit her third shot on the final hole, but Lang was told before she hit her third shot. The two were still tied when the penalty strokes were applied, so there are no guarantees that Nordqvist would have come back to win it if she had been alerted sooner. But she would have had the opportunity to play aggressively on the final hole, and Lang likely wouldnt have elected to hit a conservative shot with a sand wedge instead of going for birdie with the lob wedge she had initially grabbed. It was a terribly unfair way for Nordqvist to lose, and likely a somewhat unsatisfying victory for Lang (especially after USGA President Diana Murphy repeatedly called her Bethany, instead of Brittany, duuring the trophy presentation).ddddddddddddLosing because of a rules violation like that might be even worse than a walk-off balk. Ill never forget the story of high school pole vaulter Robin Laird. In 2010, her successful vault in the final event of the night won her team the league championship, but her score was disqualified and the title was lost because she was wearing a friendship bracelet. The opposing teams coach, Mike Knowles, pointed out the tiny string bracelet on Lairds wrist after the winning jump was made, ensuring that the meet would be decided not by merit, but by a technicality. Its unfortunate for the young lady, said Knowles, whose team won after he reported Lairds jewelry infraction. But youve got to teach the kids that rules are rules.Id argue teaching good sportsmanship is even more important.Teams have suffered heartbreaking losses because their fans prematurely celebrated, because a set of replacement refs fouled things up, and because no one really knows what the hell constitutes a catch in the NFL. Teams have ended up on the losing side of things because of a terribly ill-timed face-mask penalty, a lack of discipline, and celebrating before crossing the finish line. All terrible ways to lose a game, to be sure. And the worst part? Theyre all caught on tape, to be replayed over and over again. Most of those unfortunate athletes seemed to take their failures in stride. After all, were told that terrible losses can make for good character building -- you know, learning to lose gracefully and all that. Not all of us are cut out for that losing gracefully stuff, though. After more than 30 years on this earth, Ive sort of given up on it. Some of us are destined to throw bats at rec league softball games, yell at refs making eight bucks an hour, and agonize for years over a late interception that cost your team a playoff win in flag football. All Ill say is, thank goodness my losses never make the Not Top 10.***Ryen Russillo joins this weeks Thats What She Said podcast to talk about the radio balancing act of being interesting but also authentic, opinionated but genuine. That left plenty of energy for pitching books and swatting away free agency questions. Anthony had 24 points and nine rebounds, and the Knicks avenged an embarrassing home loss with a rout of their own, beating the Boston Celtics 114-88 on Wednesday night for their third straight victory. Saints Jerseys 2020 . Pierce was ejected in the third quarter of Indianas 103-86 win Monday. George Hill stole a bad pass and was going in for a layup, and Pierce hustled back and appeared to be trying to wrap him up. CLEVELAND -- Lonnie Chisenhall kept his head up when he was handed a ticket back to the minor leagues in May. The Cleveland Indians are glad he did. Chisenhalls first career grand slam was the key hit in Saturday nights 5-3 win over the Kansas City Royals. The sixth-inning drive off Jeremy Guthrie broke open a 1-0 game and hit off the facing of the second deck in right field, landing in Kansas Citys bullpen. "Its a good feeling, probably the best one of my career so far, especially being my first grand slam," Chisenhall said. "It was a big game for us." Scott Kazmir (5-4) allowed two runs in 6 1-3 innings for his first victory since June 21 as the Indians won for the fifth time in seven games. Cleveland is 50-44 and trails Detroit by 1 1-2 games in the American League Central going into the final game before the All-Star break Sunday. Miguel Tejadas RBI single in the seventh broke a streak of 22 consecutive scoreless innings for Kansas City, which has lost four in a row. Alcides Escobars infield hit with the bases loaded added two runs in the inning. Chris Perez, pitching for the sixth time in eight days, worked the ninth for his 12th save. Chisenhall, the Indians No. 1 draft pick in 2008, began the season as Clevelands starting third baseman but was sent to Triple-A Columbus on May 15, batting .213. Hes hitting .292 with three homers and 14 RBIs since being recalled on June 18. "Nobody wants to go down but I knew at some point I was going to start hitting the ball," Chisenhall said. "It was their decision. I did all I could to work hard in Triple-A so I could help the major league team when I got back." Indians manager Terry Francona sees a difference in Chisenhall since his return. "When hes getting balls to hit hes not fouling them," Francona said. "Sometimes you get one pitch to hit in an at-bat. Now hes getting it and hitting it." Jason Kipnis sacrifice fly in the third gave Cleveland the lead. That began a stretch that saw Guthrie (8-7) retire nine straight, which Kipnis ended with a leadoff single in the sixth. Michael Brantleys one-out double moved Kipnis to third and Carlos Santana was intentionally walked. Guthrie struck out Jason Giambi on a 3-2 pitch but Chisenhall teed off on his next delivery. The home run was the 22nd allowed by Guthrie, tying him for the American League lead. "It was a curveball that stayed up, so thats my fault, but any time a guy hits a first-pitch breaking ball for a home run, hes done a pretty good job," Guthrie said. Kazmir remained unbeaten at Progressive Fieldd this season, going 5-0 in eight starts.dddddddddddd The left-hander walked the first two hitters in the seventh. Tejadas one-out single off Matt Albers scored Salvador Perez before David Lough grounded out. After Alex Gordon was intentionally walked, Escobar beat out a slow groundball to shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera as two runs scored. Rich Hill struck out Eric Hosmer to end the inning. Vinnie Pestano worked out of a two-on, one-out jam in the eighth, which ended when Santana, playing first base, made a diving grab of Tejadas line drive. "It feels good to go out there and throw strikes," Kazmir said. "I feel like Ive been a little more consistent." Guthrie allowed five runs and eight hits in seven innings. Hes recorded one win since June 10, a stretch of six starts. Kipnis, who will be making his first All-Star appearance Tuesday in New York, was 3 for 3 with an RBI and stolen base. Cabrera, who was 1 for 3 with a walk, has been the subject of trade rumours. Media reports have said the Indians and St. Louis are discussing a deal that would send the two-time All-Star to the Cardinals in exchange for pitching help. The Indians entered play Saturday ranked 12th in the American League in ERA. The rumours involving Cabrera, who can be a free agent following next season, coincide with the Indians promoting shortstop Francisco Lindor, their No. 1 pick in 2011, to Double-A Akron. The Indians wore 1902 replica road jerseys and caps. NOTES: Lindor, 19, will play in the All-Star Futures Game on Sunday and will join Akron early in the week. "You dont want to rush a kid too much," said Francona. "I dont doubt you could throw him in a major league game and it would look like he belongs. Could he hold his own enough to put up some numbers? Probably not yet but this is a significant step in his career." ... The Royals recalled LHP Everett Teaford from Triple-A Omaha and optioned LHP Donnie Joseph to the Storm Chasers. ... RHP Zach McAllister (sprained middle finger) allowed two runs in 3 1-3 innings Saturday on a rehab start at Double-A Akron against Altoona. McAllister will likely need at least two more rehab outings before being activated. ... Royals RHP Wade Davis will be activated off the paternity leave list Sunday, but stay in New York with his wife Katelyn and their first child. ... The Indians announced RHP Trevor Bauer was scratched from Saturdays start at Columbus because of back spasms. ... Sam Houstons only non-conference wins were against Divisio

CLEVELAND -- After getting shut out in their first World Series game since 1945, the Chicago Cubs stressed it was no time to panic.Their at-bats were good, the Cubs insisted. The balanced lineup that propelled them to a National League championship and the best record in the majors was just a swing away.Three swings, as it turned out.The first by Kris Bryant with one out in the first inning Wednesday night, a sharp single to center field off Cleveland Indians starter Trevor Bauer that gave the Chicago dugout and the sea of blue-clad fans scattered throughout Progressive Field a needed jolt. The second came seven pitches later, a double to right from Anthony Rizzo that sent Bryant racing home with the Cubs first World Series run in 71 years. The third was in the fifth, a triple to right by Ben Zobrist that gave starter Jake Arrieta all the cushion he needed in a 5-1 victory that tied the Fall Classic at one game apiece heading back to Wrigley Field on Friday.Perhaps its only fitting the outburst was started by three players who represent the various stages of Chicagos renaissance under general manger Theo Epstein.Rizzo, the teams longest-tenured position player, endured 101 losses in his first season with the Cubs in 2012, a six-month bout of misery that led to Chicago taking Bryant with the second pick in the 2013 amateur draft. Bryants arrival in the majors last spring helped propel Chicago to 97 wins and a spot in the NLCS, leading Zobrist -- fresh off a championship with the Royals in 2015 -- to sign with the Cubs last winter. There the three were in the heart of the order Wednesday, scoring four of Chicagos five runs to move the Cubs within three wins of the franchises first World Series title in 108 years.Bryant went hitless in his first Series game Tuesday night, though he was hardly alone as the Cubs managed little against Corey Kluber, Andrew Miller and Cody Allen. The going wasnt nearly as tough against Bauer, who pitched with the pinkie on his right hand still recovering from a gash sustained while he was tinkering with a toy drone earlier in the playoffs.Bryant ripped a single up the middle on a 2-2 pitch in the first and scored on Rizzos double. It was Chicagos first run since the eighth inning of a Game 7 loss to Detroit in the 1945 World Series, a mere 44 years before Rizzo was born.Rizzo walked and Zobrist singled in the third before Rizzo scored on a single by Kyle Schwarber to make it 2-0. In the fifth, Rizzo led off with a walk and raced home on Zobrists hard triple into the right-field corner. Zobrist scored to make it 4-0 when Schwarber singled up the middle. All of a sudden, an October night in Cleveland on baseballs biggest stage felt like so many other games Chicago has played over the last six-plus months. Arrieta dominated, the lineup delivered and the crowd chanted Lets Go Cubs. All the way back to Chicago, where a chance to make history more than a century in the making awaits. Threadborne Shoes Online . Badenhop was 2-3 with a 3.47 ERA in 63 relief appearances for Milwaukee this season. He is 18-20 in his career with three saves and a 3. (STATS) -- While the FBS is littered with conference title games, the FCS is nearly void of them.Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas are having one anyway. Its an unofficial, de facto Southland Conference championship game Saturday when the top-ranked Bearkats (10-0, 8-0) host the No. 11 Bears (9-1, 8-0). While the only league with a true title game is the SWAC, Southland schedule makers must be pinching themselves because its been 28 years since two teams with perfect conference records played for the championship in the final week.If were in the top five in the country, then Central Arkansas should be in the top five in the country because its like looking into a mirror, Sam Houston State coach K.C. Keeler said. Both teams are headed to the playoffs regardless of the result, but theres still plenty on the line -- besides just a conference crown.Keelers squad can make a big statement to the FCS selection committee after cruising through a weak schedule and never really being challenged. SHSU won every game by at least 13 points behind an unstoppable offense led by likely Walter Payton Award candidate Jeremiah Briscoe. The Bearkats average of 53.7 points is best in the country, about a touchdown better than second-place Ohio State, and so is their average of 592.4 total yards.A team with no discernible weaknesses, Central Arkansas coach Steve Campbell said. Very strong, and theyre at the top of the statistics nationally in many, many categories. Offensively, in about every category.Theyre not at the top, however, in the selection committee rankings. The Bearkats are only No. 5 on that list while the Bears are No. 7. The top eight seeds receive first-round byes, so its very possible the loser Saturday wont get one.A defeat would crush SHSUs hopes of earning one of the top two seeds, which receive home-field advantage through the semifinals. Thats a very real and important possibility for a Bearkats team which is 37-2 at home since the start of 2011.The Bears, on the other hand, have been road warriors. Theyve won nine straight away from home, including a 5-0 record this season which includes a win over FBS foe Arkansas State and a 35-0 thrashing of defending conference champion McNeese. In fact, Central Arkansas four road wins over FCS schools have all been by at least 20 points, so it wont be scared going into Bowers Stadium. While SHSU was the preseason favorite to win the conference, the Bears were picked to finish third, but it was hard to see this coming after the Bears lost in Week 2. However, that defeat was to a Samford team which now resides at No. 18 in the STATS FCS Top 25, and Central Arkansas has recovered to win eight in a row.The Bearkats havent facedd anyone of that caliber.dddddddddddd They didnt have to play the Southlands third-place team, Southeastern Louisiana, while the Bears whipped the Lions by 30 points on the road.Sam Houstons only non-conference wins were against Division II Panhandle State and sub-.500 Texas Southern. Central Arkansas, meanwhile, lost by only six to Samford and defeated an Arkansas State team which is tied for the Sun Belt Conference lead. For the most part, weve been very dominant, but its great to have a phenomenal opponent, Keeler said. We are playing one of the best teams in the country this weekend. So I think for both of us its a big ballgame, an opportunity to move up.Central Arkansas ranks among the FCS top 10 defensive teams, allowing 16.8 points and 300.7 yards per game. The Bears are No. 1 against the run -- in FCS or FBS -- at 67.8 yards per game. However, theyre not as good against the pass, and no offense passes better than the Briscoe-led Bearkats. No one in all of college football has more touchdown passes than Briscoes 45, and he has only seven interceptions in 377 attempts. The FCS top-rated passer has thrown for 3,665 yards -- good for third among quarterbacks in both subdivisions -- and hes been sacked just seven times.Tremendous poise in the pocket, he knows where he wants to go with the football, Campbell said. Hes got great awareness, he never gets rattled. Hes a very, very calming presence, and they play a fast-tempo offense. Hes really got a great handle on everything that theyre wanting to do. Outstanding football player. He could be a big problem for a Bears defense which just allowed 340 yards passing last week to Nicholls freshman Chase Fourcade and gave up 424 to Arkansas States Justice Hansen. Each of those signal-callers had only one other 300-yard game all season. The best quarterback theyve faced is Samfords Devlin Hodges -- the FCS eighth-rated passer -- and he picked apart the Bears for 282 yards and three touchdowns.Central Arkansas employs a balanced offense, throwing and rushing for more than 2,000 yards apiece, as junior quarterback Hayden Hildebrand has had a solid season with 15 touchdowns through the air and four on the ground.Keeping up with the Bearkats -- on their home field, no less -- is a different animal altogether. Then again, maybe the Bears defense is the one which can keep that scary offense in check.Defensively, they just fly to the ball, Keeler said. Steve has done a phenomenal job there. Theyve gotten better every single year. I think this is their best team, and this is one of best defenses Ive seen. ' ' '

West Coast Fever have signed English international Stacey Francis for the opening two seasons of the new National Netball League. The 28-year-old Birmingham defender says she cant wait to wear green in 2017.I am incredibly excited to join the Fever family, Francis said on Saturday. Its an organisation Ive heard nothing but good things about and the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing success of the club in the new National Netball League was too good to pass up.Francis has spent more than a decade playing in the English Superleague and has won five league titles with Team Bath and two separate Player of the Year awards. She says West Coast head coach Stacey Rosman was a major factor in her decision to continue her career in Australia.I got a fantastic vibe from the conversations Ive had with Stacey and have been very impressed by the clear vision and direction she has for our team. The decision to leave home was certainly not one I made lightly but the prospect of being a part of this team and investing not only in my future but that of the clubs is something Im passionate about.Francis is the first of 10 players confirmed in Fevers playing squad ahead of the 2017 season. ESPNs Buster Olney reports that the league is reviewing Sunday nights game in Boston to see if it will hand down further discipline after Red Sox pitcher Ryan Dempster hit Rodriguez. Both benches were warned and Yankees manager Joe Girardi was ejected after arguing with umpire Brian ONora. Rodriguez then hit the 649th homer of his career to start a four-run sixth inning that carried New York to a 9-6 win over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday night. Rodriguez, who went 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs, was suspended recently for 211 games by Major League Baseball in the Biogenesis drug case. He appealed the penalty and can play until there is a final decision. "Whether you like me or hate me, whats wrong is wrong," he said of being hit. "That was unprofessional and silly." Under the collective bargainning agreement, Rodriguez has the right to appeal.dddddddddddd "Whether I agree with everything thats going on, you do not throw at people and you dont take the law into your own hands," Girardi said. "You cant just start taking potshots because you disagree with the way the system is set up." Girardi and Rodriguez said Dempster threw at Rodriguez intentionally. And Girardi said Dempster should have been ejected and should be suspended. Rodriguez declined to comment on any punishment for the pitcher. "Im the wrong guy to be asking about suspensions," he said with a smile. According to Olney, Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg and manager Davey Johnson could also face discipline from MLB. Braves pitchers hit Harper with two pitches in Atlantas win over the Nats on Friday night. Strasburg then hit Justin Upton in the first inning on Saturday night and was ejected after throwing two straight pitches behind Andrelton Simmons back. ' ' '

ZADAR, Croatia -- Marin Cilic and Ivan Dodig put Croatia 2-1 ahead in the Davis Cup semifinal against France by upsetting top-ranked doubles pair Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert 7-6 (6), 5-7, 7-6 (6), 6-3 on Saturday.Cilic, who won his singles on Friday, replaced Marin Draganja and it proved to be an inspired choice. With Ivan and our captain (Zeljko Krajan) we prepared our tactics well, Cilic said.Herbert, the more inexperienced of Frances doubles pairing, sent his volley into the net to hand Croatia an unexpected victory at the Kresimir Cosic Hall in Zadar.Croatias performance stunned Frances captain Yannick Noah.I didnt expect to see Dodig playing at this level, Noah said. Croatia is in a good position because Marin is playing good tennis. They have been better than us over the first two days (and) we havent found the keys (to victory) yet.Richard Gasquet now must beat Cilic in the first of Sundays reverse singles to keep France alive. We will have to be ready for a battle tomorrow, Noah said. With the way he plays Gasquet can find angles and take Cilic out of his comfort zone. But to do so he must play at a very high level.Gasquet leads Cilic, the 2014 U.S. Open champion, 2-1 in their career head-to-heads and that makes Cilic wary. Its always difficult against him, Cilic said. But in my two defeats I remember having a lot of break-point chances.Pouille is then scheduled to face Borna Coric in what could be Sundays deciding rubber.Coric won their only previous meeting, which was in straight sets at Indian Wells in March. The winner plays Britain or Argentina in the final in November. Three-time NBA champion Luc Longley believes Patty Mills deserves to be a starting point guard at San Antonio - or elsewhere.Mills, a back-up to Tony Parker at the Spurs, has been one of the standouts in the mens basketball competition at the Rio Olympics. Not only has he been Australias top point scorer, he is second in the tournament for points per game with an average of 21.2.He banked a game-high 24 points in the Boomers 90-64 demolition of European powerhouse Lithuania to secure them a spot in the semifinals and a chance to break their Olympic medal duck.Mills sunk five of 11 from the three-point line and missed just one inside. You get him looks and its money, said Boomers assistant coach Longley. The shots hes missing are the tough shots at the end of the clock.Mills has proved his worth over the years, but Longley believes he has well and truly stamped his mark at the Rio Games.Theres no doubt hes a first team point guard or two man somewhere in the NBAA, he said.dddddddddddd.Hes just been in a very deep and talented situation at San Antonio.Hes very potent for us. He makes a lot of room for the big guys by being so potent.Mills is the man behind setting Australias goal of winning gold in Brazil. His leadership on and off the court has been inspiring, according to coach Andrej Lemanis, and is driven by his desire to proudly represent his country and heritage on the world stage. The thing I appreciate the most with him - everyone sees his offence but hes really got into his defence at this tournament, said Lemanis.Hes prepared to sacrifice for the good of the team.We all see when he scores, but he goes through the video and he sets screens to get other people open.Hes prepared to do work for others as others are prepared to do work for him. Thats what makes the team hard to guard. ' ' '
