SAN ANTONIO -- The fact that San Antonio weathered a spate of injuries and a road trip that lasted nearly a month did not surprise Detroit coach John Loyer. But the efficiency the Spurs showed in their return home and return to health left him and the Pistons a bit awe-struck. Marco Belinelli had 20 points to lead eight San Antonio players in double figures, and the Spurs worked through a lethargic start to beat the Pistons 120-110 on Wednesday night. Playing without injured All-Star point guard Tony Parker, San Antonio matched its season high with 34 assists while going 44 for 82 from the field (54 per cent). "Against the Spurs, you do not guard against two or three players; you guard a system of players," Loyer said. "They just plug guys in and find a way. Their ability to shoot the basketball separates them from being a very good team to close to a great team." Kawhi Leonard had 15 points for San Antonio in his return from a 14-game absence due to a broken finger. Manu Ginobili scored 16 points, Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter had 13 apiece, Boris Diaw added 12, Patty Mills 11 and Cory Joseph 10. Ginobili had a team-high nine assists, Splitter added six and Leonard, Diaw and Belinelli had four each as the Spurs tied the season mark they set Jan. 4 against the Los Angeles Clippers. "You get 34 assists, thats really incredible," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "So the ball movement was fantastic, the pace, we rebounded a little better. It was a good win for them, being on the road so long. Coming home, they were a little anxious, playing a little fast in the first half. They calmed down and started playing solid basketball." Josh Smith scored 24 points for Detroit, which has lost three straight. Will Bynum added 18 points, Rodney Stuckey 17 and Andre Drummond had 16 points and 17 rebounds. The Spurs got off to a sloppy start despite having two practices during a five-day break following their annual Rodeo Road Trip that lasted nearly a month. "Its a big problem with us and we know it," Duncan said. "I think were trying to play very fast -- a little faster than were used to playing. Guys are trying to be really unselfish and force things some times. Weve got to take care of that at some point. Its a work in progress. Thats what we use the entire season for." The Spurs had 11 turnovers in the opening half, leading to 13 points and some pointed coaching by Popovich. "What the heck are you guys doing?" he screamed during a timeout following consecutive turnovers. In the second half, San Antonio returned to the crisp ball movement that became a staple of its early victories. The Spurs had 10 assists in the third quarter while shooting 12 for 19 from the field. Leonard had the initial assist of the quarter, leaping over a fallen defender to throw a bounce pass that Duncan gathered for a running slam ahead of Smith. "He made a huge difference for us on both ends," Duncan said. "Just having his length in there, especially in situations where theyre very good on the offensive glass. ... It was just great all around to have him back." San Antonio went on a 17-6 run beginning midway through the third to take an 85-75 lead with 2 minutes left in the quarter. Belinelli had seven points in the run and Ginobili added five points and assisted on two of Belinellis baskets. Belinelli returned the favour later, drawing Kyle Singler away defensively on a fast break and dishing to Ginobili for an open layup that gave San Antonio a 111-99 lead with 3:36 remaining in the game. "They are one of the best executing teams in the league," Loyer said. "They are a good team coached by a great coach. There comes a point in the game where you tell yourself you are in the game, down three or four, and then it turns into an 11-point game before you know it." Leonard missed his first two tries from the field in his first game since Jan. 22, coming up a foot short on a 16-foot attempt from the right corner on the games opening shot. He was credited with a follow of a missed free throw that Drummond appeared to tip in. "You got 20,000 fans watching you -- yeah, it took me a while," Leonard said. "Just (trying) to not think about my hand. Just go out there and play." Leonard followed with a 3-pointer and threw down a right-handed dunk on Smith off an alley-oop pass from Joseph. Leonard grabbed the brace on his right hand after the dunk, but quickly rose to race back on defence. "I thought he was great," Popovich said. "Thats a long time to not be on the court. His rhythm was pretty good. He played decent defence, took a few shots and made a couple. He did well. He did better than I would have thought, really, after all that time." Smith scored eight of Detroits final 10 points in the first quarter and had 20 in the first half. "We put up a good fight, but in order to beat an elite team like San Antonio, especially on the road, you have to be able to kind of play perfect basketball," he said. NOTES: Popovich had lunch with former President Bill Clinton, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro and former mayor Henry Cisneros. Clinton was in town to celebrate Cisneros being honoured with the International Citizen Award from the World Affairs Council of San Antonio. ... Ginobilis left foot burst through the bottom of his sneaker as he planted while guarding Stuckey, leaving the shoe dangling from his ankle as if it had been unzipped. Popovich had the Spurs call a timeout to check on Ginobili, who shrugged when asked what happened. A ball boy quickly raced to the locker room to get a replacement in time for Ginobili to return to the court. "It was a great pit stop," Ginobili said. Tosin Adarabioyo Jersey .Brady threw a 69-yard touchdown pass to Julian Edelman midway through the fourth quarter, and New England beat the San Diego Chargers 23-14 for its eighth win in nine games. John Stones Jersey . Off-season additions Jermain Defoe and Michael Bradley did not train with the club today, prompting Nelsen to declare its too early to tell if either will be ready for Saturday. http://www.tmancitysoccershop.com/c-27-l...-fc-jersey.aspx. - The Pittsburgh Pirates plan on keeping promising left fielder Starling Marte playing alongside National League MVP Andrew McCutchen for years to come. Phil Foden Jersey . Last years runner-up, Sara Errani, also reached the last eight in straight sets. Flipkens converted all four of her break points against Meusburger, and the third-seeded Errani broke Karin Knapps serve five times to win their all-Italian match 6-4, 6-3. Benjamin Mendy Jersey . Terrance Broadway threw for 227 yards and Hunter Stover kicked three field goals as the Ragin Cajuns won an unprecedented fourth straight New Orleans Bowl with a 16-3 triumph over Nevada.LONDON - Former champion Maria Sharapova saved six match points before falling to Angelique Kerber in the fourth round at Wimbledon on Tuesday, ending her bid to win a second title at the All England Club a decade after her first. Five-time champion Serena Williams, meanwhile, struggled to even hit the ball over the net in a doubles match with sister Venus and pulled out after only three games with what officials called a viral illness. Sharapova, a five-time major champion, saved one match point at 5-2 down in the third set and five more in the final game before hitting a backhand long on the seventh. That gave the ninth-seeded Kerber a stirring 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-4 win on Centre Court in a match that lasted 2 hours, 37 minutes. "Its unbelievable," said the German, a semifinalist two years ago. "It was so tough (a) match. Every single set was so close. Marias a great player. I was just fighting, concentrating and focusing on myself. Im so happy to be in the quarters now." Kerber will next face 20-year-old Canadian star Eugenie Bouchard, the only woman to reach the semifinals this year at both the Australian Open and French Open. Bouchard beat Kerber in the fourth round at the French. Sharapova, who won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2004 at the age of 17, was coming off her latest major championship at the French Open last month. "Its absolutely normal for people to have high expectations of me doing well in Grand Slam stages," Sharapova said. "I certainly do, as well. Today could have gone either way, and it didnt go my way." On a day when seven-time mens champion Roger Federer sailed into the quarterfinals, Serena was out of sorts from the moment the pre-match warmup began. She had trouble collecting tennis balls from the ball kids and missed completely on some practice strokes. The start of the second-round doubles against Kristina Barrois and Stefanie Voegele was put off for about 10 minutes while Serena sat in her chair and was examined by medical staff. In the third game, Serena hit four double-faults. She hit serves that bounced before reaching the net. Umpire Kader Nouni climbed down from his chair and walked over to speak to Serena. Thee sisters walked to the sideline holding hands, and the match was stopped.dddddddddddd Serena wiped away tears as she left the court. The Wimbledon referees office and WTA said Serena had a viral illness. She left the grounds a few hours later in a tournament car with Venus. While Sharapova sought to dictate play with her big-swinging groundstrokes, Kerber played counter-attacking tennis and went for her shots when the opportunities came. The match featured high tension and intensity. Sharapovas shrieks grew louder and louder as the match wore on. Kerber went up 4-1 and saved two break points to lead 5-2 in the final set. She held a match point on Sharapovas serve, but the Russian hit a deep backhand that she couldnt handle. With Kerber serving for the match in the next game, Sharapova broke for 5-4. Then Kerber went up 0-40 on Sharapovas serve, but the Russian erased those three match points. Two more came and went. Sharapova twice earned game points but couldnt convert. Finally, on the sixth match point of the game, it ended with Sharapovas backhand error. Federer kept up his bid for a record eighth Wimbledon title by beating Tommy Robredo to reach the quarterfinals for the 12th time. Federer, who has not dropped a set in the tournament, overwhelmed the Spaniard 6-1, 6-1, 6-4 in just over 90 minutes. "All the things are happening that need to be happening to go deep in this tournament again," he said. Federers win set up an all-Swiss duel with Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka, who beat Feliciano Lopez 7-6 (5), 7-6 (7), 6-3 to make it to the quarterfinals for the first time. Eighth-seeded Milos Raonic became the first Canadian man to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals since Robert Powell in 1912, beating No. 10 Kei Nishikori of Japan 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4) 6-3. The first woman into the semifinals was No. 23 Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic, who beat Ekaterina Makarova of Russia, 6-3 6-1. French Open runner-up Simona Halep breezed into the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan. Her next opponent will be 2013 finalist Sabine Lisicki of Germany, who overcame shoulder trouble to defeat Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. ___ Black China NFL Jerseys Wholesale NFL Hoodies Cheap Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Online Stitched Jerseys NFL Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys 2020 ' ' '

#52162711 / gettyimages.com DW: Whos your favourite player in todays NHL and why?KP: I like watching [Steven] Stamkos; hes big and rangy and has that great release. Hes a player. Offensively hes a threat every time hes on the ice. Its guys like that who are always fun to watch. #479303113 / gettyimages.com DW: If you could choose one team to play for in todays NHL, which team would you pick and why?KP: Probably the LA Kings because theyve had so much success and theyre built for the playoffs. Theyre not a team that has dominated the regular season, but come postseason time theyve been great. They find ways to win games and its always somebody different. Its a unique setup. So ya, probably the LA Kings. #146684222 / gettyimages.com DW: Whats the best prank you ever witnessed pulled in a hockey locker room?KP: The one that I always remember that gives me the greatest chuckle was the time Chris Therien took Daymond Langkows dress shoes, we were in Buffalo, and he had them glued to the ceiling in the locker room. Daymond obviously couldnt get them down because he wasnt tall in stature… even me at 65" wouldnt have been able to get them down! Its just one of those silly pranks. Im not sure where he got the glue or how he got them up there, but he did and it was funny.DW: Whats the most memorable game you ever played in the NHL?KP: I guess the most memorable game would have to be the fifth overtime in Pittsburgh. It was certainly the most memorable goal, back in 2000 in the Eastern Conference Finals. But also, the most memorable game personally might be Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals in 2004 where I was more involved offensively, I was all over the score sheet, and it was an elimination game we ended up winning. That was a very memorable game for me as well.DW: What is the strangest NHL moment you ever experienced in your career?KP: I dont know if it was a moment… I guess it was a moment in time. 1991 was my second year in the league, it ended up being a strike year, and that year I had gone back and fourth between Adirondack and Detroit literally four or five times. The strike occurred, we went down for the playoffs, got called back up when the strike ended, got sent back down when we ended up losing, and then went on to win the Calder Cup in Adirondack. It was just a very bizarre stretch of about three months in my career. #52409977 / gettyimages.com DW: I know you dropped the gloves against your brother - what was it like to fight a sibling on the NHL stage?KP: It was in the heat of the moment, and on reflection both Wayne and I agreed it wasnt the smartest thing wed ever done and swore it would never happen again. Its something YouTube has resurrected for me and is brought up in a lot of conversations as Im seen around town.DW: If the science behind concussions, and player safety was where it is today, do you think you might have approached the game differently as a player?KP: I dont know if I would, but I would definitely understand it better, so theres the chance that I would have approached it better or differently. The sad thing is, ultimately I cant say that I would have. But I agree that with the heightened awareness and the education thats occurred, certainly people are approaching it much differently than they did even as early as five or ten years ago. #53131589 / gettyimages.com DW: Tell me a little bit about the Stop Concussions Source for Sports Skate Sharpening Day youll take part in Saturday?KP: Source for Sports has been a huge supporter of Stop Concussions and a huge contributor to our growth and ongoing success. Theyve given us much needed resources in order to do the things we do that relates to education, and setting up a platform to stop concussions. One day a year Source For Sports and the participating franchises donate all the proceeds from the skate sharpening in their stores to Stop Concussions. Weve had tremendous success and appreciate all the work Source For Sports does for us.DW: And finally, because were here at BarDown, Im going to have to ask you - can you still go BarDown?KP: Oh ya (laughs)! Im old, slow and fat… but I can still shoot a puck. Thibaut Courtois Jersey . The matchup will be made up in Minnesota at a later date. The arena was evacuated about 45 minutes before the scheduled 9:30 p.m. EST tipoff when a generator malfunction outside the arena sent smoke pouring into the building, according to NBA spokeswoman Sharon Lima. Adnan Januzaj Jersey . The Wizards announced Friday that Webster had surgery to repair a herniated disc in his lower back. The operation was performed Thursday in Los Angeles. Thomas Vermaelen Belgium Jersey .The third-seeded Murray, who won here in 2009, will face seventh-seeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa next on the indoor hard court. ATLANTA -- Henrik Stenson capped off the best stretch of his career Sunday with the biggest payoff in golf. Stenson held off a brief challenge by 20-year-old Jordan Spieth and closed with a 2-under 68 to win the Tour Championship by three shots over Spieth and Steve Stricker. The 37-year-old Swede also captured the FedEx Cup and its $10 million bonus. Stenson earned $1.44 million for winning the tournament. Stenson, who two years ago was outside the top 200, moved to No. 4 in the world. Spieth left one lasting impression on his remarkable rookie season. The youngest player in Tour Championship history ran off four straight birdies on the back nine at East Lake and pulled within one shot of Stenson with his 10-footer on the 16th. Spieth caught a buried lie in the bunker short of the 17th green and made bogey, while Stenson steadied himself with an 8-foot birdie on the par-5 15th to return his lead to three shots. Stenson only made it easy at the end with three pars -- nearly holing out from the bunker right of the 16th green, hitting a scary shot from the right fairway bunker on the 17th to the middle of the green, and saving par from another bunker on the 18th. Spieth closed with a 64, while Stricker had a 65. Stenson, who finished at 13-under 267, became the first European to win the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup. His amazing summer began with a tie for third in the Scottish Open. Stenson followed with a runner-up at the British Open and the World Golf Championship at Firestone, third place at the PGA Championship and a win at the Deutsche Bank Championship. The Tour Championship was his second win in three tournaments of the FedEx Cup playoffs. "Since the Scottish Open, its been just an incredible run," he said. "Im speechless. It was a tough day out there. To hang in there the way I did, Im really satisfied. ... It hasnt quite sunk in yet. I had to fight hard mentally to keep all this aside, and I managed to do that. Its going to feel better as the week goes on. Im pretty sure about that." Tiger Woods, the No. 1 seed going into the Tour Championship, never recovered from his 73-71 start. He closed with a 67 to tie for 22nd, his worst finish ever at East Lake, and wound up second in the FedEx Cup. That still was worth a $3 million bonus. Woods wrapped up the PGGA of Americas points-based award for player of the year, and he captured the PGA Tour money title and the Vardon Trophy for the lowest adjusted scoring title.ddddddddddddNext up is a vote of the players for PGA Tour player of the year. He is the heavy favourite with five wins this year. The award is to be announced on Friday. Stricker had birdie chances on the last two holes, unaware that making one of them would have been worth an extra $1 million. He only cared about winning the tournament, knowing he needed birdies and for Stenson to make a mistake. "I knew the putt meant a lot. I didnt know it meant that much," he said with a smile. Instead of finishing second in the FedEx Cup, Stricker had to settle for third and the $2 million bonus. Spieth had a 55-foot birdie putt across the 18th green that stopped inches away. His season was simply remarkable. The young Texan started the year with no status on any tour, and wound up with a win, more than $3.8 million in earnings and a trip to the Presidents Cup in two weeks. "Henrik obviously was playing phenomenal golf," Spieth said. "I felt like once a few putts started falling, we have a shot at it." Stenson became the fifth player to win his debut at the Tour Championship, a list that starts with Tom Watson when the elite 30-man field began in 1987. He also became the first player to go wire-to-wire without ties since Watson. For much of the day, no one got closer to Stenson than three shots, and he answered that early challenge with an 8-iron to an elevated green at No. 7 to 2 feet for birdie. The Tour Championship came to life in the final hour, though, thanks to the youngest player in the field. Fearless as ever, Spieth began a run of birdies starting on the 13th hole that not only moved him into second place, it put pressure on Stenson not to drop any shots. Stensons only bogey came on the 14th, when he caught a flyer over the green and missed a 20-foot putt. Spieth was between clubs on the 17th, however, tried to hammer a 9-iron and caught just enough heavy that it plugged in the bunker. The next challenge came from Stricker, who rolled in an eagle putt on the 15th to get within two shots. He never got any closer. Webb Simpson had the low round of the tournament with a 63 to finish fourth. Colorado placed RHP Jhoulys Chacin

NEW YORK -- If the pitching-depleted New York Yankees plan to make a second-half charge, they will need several specific contributions the rest of the way: Big hits from Brian McCann and Carlos Beltran. Steady starts from David Phelps and a makeshift rotation. Maybe a little more punch from No. 3 batter Jacoby Ellsbury. First game after the All-Star break? Check, check, check. Ellsbury hit a two-run homer, Phelps pitched into the seventh inning, and the Yankees beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 on Friday night. "Big win for us to start the second half," Ellsbury said. "You always want to play well at home. You should play well at home. I think were going to." McCann and Beltran had two-out RBIs for the Yankees (48-47), who began a 10-game homestand by winning the opener of an interleague series against a National League contender. New York, with a major league-high 40 home games after the break, snapped a five-game losing streak at Yankee Stadium and improved to 19-23 in its ballpark. All-Star reliever Dellin Betances struck out three in 1 2-3 perfect innings, and David Robertson worked a one-hit ninth for his 24th save in 26 chances. "A week off always helps," Betances said. "I just felt like maybe I had a little more power." Phelps (4-4) gave up three runs -- two earned -- in 6 1-3 innings against a lineup missing injured thumpers Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips. The right-hander struck out seven and walked one for his first win since June 19 against Toronto, which preceded four straight no-decisions. Phelps is 3-0 in seven outings since a four-game skid, and he has yielded two earned runs or fewer in six of those seven starts. "Regardless of what the rotation looks like, I pride myself on being consistent," he said. "Thats one thing Ive always strived for in the big leagues and even in the minor leagues. When our rotation does take hits, I kind of put (it) on myself to step up." It was the kind of effort New York needs from the unheralded fill-ins in its injury-ravaged rotation. Before the game, general manager Brian Cashman announced that left-hander CC Sabathia is scheduled for surgery on his right knee Wednesday -- ending any hope of him returning this year. "We need everybody to step up," Ellsbury said. Brayan Pena, subbing for Votto at first base, homered twice for the Reds. Mike Leake (7-8) allowed four runs and eight hits in seven innings. "It was not as sharp as he has been, but he competed well and gave us a chance," manager Bryan Price said. "We just caught a guy who was a little bit better today." With the score tied 2-all, Derek Jeter singled to start the fifth, and Ellsbury lined a 1-1 pitch to the short porch in right field for his seventh home run. "It was a cutter that backed up, but it was still decent location," Leake said. "He was able to drop his hands and hurt me." Brett Gardner was hit on the left foot by Leakes third pitch. Shaken up a bit, he was checked by manager Joe Girardi and a trainer before remaining in the game. Gardner stole second and scored on McCanns two-out double. McCann is 16 for 45 (.356) in his last 11 games, raising his batting average 19 points to .239. "Ive been feeling pretty good at the plate the last 10-12 games, so hopefully I can keep that up and drive in some runs," he said. Jeters leadoff single in the third deflected off third baseman Todd Frazier. Ellsbury also singled before Beltran, just activated from the seven-day concussion list, came through with a two-out single. Pena connected off Phelps to start the third and seventh for his first multihomer game. Cincinnati tied it at 2 in the fourth, capitalizing on errors by Brian Roberts at second base and Jeter at shortstop. Devin Mesoraco had an RBI grounder, but Phelps prevented further damage. "Hes been doing great," Betances said. "Hes given us a chance to win every time he goes out. Hes done an awesome job, and today was a great win -- a great team win." NOTES: Cincinnati will start All-Star pitchers in the final two games of the series. RHP Alfredo Simon (12-3, 2.70 ERA) goes Saturday, when RHP Brandon McCarthy makes his home debut for the Yankees. RHP Johnny Cueto (10-6, 2.13) faces New York RHP Hiroki Kuroda (6-6, 4.10) on Sunday. ... Jeter made his 2,610th career start at shortstop, passing Omar Vizquel for the most in major league history. ... The Yankees announced they will honour Jeter during a ceremony before their Sept. 7 home game against Kansas City. Jeter is retiring after this season. ... Beltran also beat the shift with a check-swing double down the third-base line. Louis Williams Jersey .C. -- With a chance to start over and maybe drive in any series he wanted, Juan Pablo Montoya thought long and hard about what mattered most at this stage of his career. Patrick Beverley Jersey .1 million contract. The club said that Boll will earn $950,000 in 2012-13 and $1.15 million in 2013-14. The 26-year-old Boll had two goals and one assist with 126 penalty minutes in 54 games with the Blue Jackets in 2011-12. http://www.clippersnbateamshop.com/deand...lippers-jersey/. Chris Heisey followed with a two-run triple and Billy Hamilton added an RBI double, all but sealing Cincinnatis fourth straight victory and seventh in eight games. Brandon Phillips, celebrating his 33rd birthday, hit a go-ahead homer in the ninth for the Reds before pinch-hitter Buster Posey tied it with an RBI double off hard-throwing closer Aroldis Chapman in the bottom half. Los Angeles Clippers Jerseys . The Calgary Stampeders running back received the West Division nomination for the CFLs top individual award Thursday in voting by the Football Reporters of Canada and leagues eight head coaches. Wesley Johnson Jersey . And thats about it. After the Salukis 73-65 loss at Murray State on Tuesday night, Hinson called his players "uncoachable," "a bunch of mamas boys" and compared the disciplining of his young team to housebreaking a puppy.WASHINGTON -- Bryce Harpers return had an immediate impact on the Washington Nationals lineup on Monday night. Adam LaRoche homered, Ryan Zimmerman had three hits and Ian Desmond added two doubles and three RBIs batting seventh as the Nationals welcomed back Harper with a 7-3 win over the Colorado Rockies. Harper, who missed 57 games because of a torn ligament in his left thumb, went 1 for 3 with an RBI single -- on Bryce Harper bobblehead night. "Having such a deep lineups huge," Harper said. "One through eight, pick your poison because youre going to get a guy who can hit the ball out of the ballpark or hit a double or anything like that." Jordan Zimmermann (6-4) allowed two runs in six innings as Washington won its third straight. The Nationals trailed 2-1 before a five-run sixth. With runners on first and second and one out, Zimmerman doubled to left off reliever Rod Scahill, scoring Anthony Rendon. "I tried to go in on Zimmerman, I missed two times in," Scahill said. "The third time in, it was a little bit more down than I wanted it to be and thats where he can get to that ball. And he got to it." Harper was walked intentionally and Desmond followed with a bases-clearing double into the left-field corner. "Thats the kind of decision-making and pressure we want to apply," manager Matt Williams said. "Bryce is a very good hitter, hed come through earlier in the game against the lefty for a base hit and an RBI and those are the decisions you have to make in that regard." Monday night marked the first time since opening day -- when catcher Wilson Ramos left the game with an injury -- that this starting eight had taken the field. Desmond is 6-for-6 with the bases loaded this season and, for his career is 11-for-17 with 16 RBIs when the batter before him is walked intentionally. "I just try to do the same thing I do every other time," said Desmond, who stole third and scored on Ramos grounder to second. Zimmermann, who finished June with a 3-2 record and a 1.43 ERA in six starts, allowed seven hits, struck out five and walked one. Hed been a victim of poor run support while going 0-2 in his last three outings. "Im just locating really well right noow," he said.dddddddddddd "Nothing really has changed, just locating well and the sliders really good. (If) I have those two things working together, I can usually string some pretty good starts together." Justin Morneau had three hits for the Rockies, who have lost 12 of 14 and finished the month of June 8-20. Yohan Flande (0-1), making his second start, was charged with three runs on six hits. He left with a 2-1 lead and runners on first and second in the sixth. "I think Flande was throwing the ball really well, but the first two guys got on in the inning," manager Walt Weiss said. "A guy making his second major league start, you want to be out in front of stuff before it happens to a kid like that. "Wasnt real comfortable with the Zimmerman matchup and went and tried to play a matchup that didnt work out." Harper, batting sixth and playing left field, was given a standing ovation when he batted in the second after LaRoches one-out single, but grounded into a double play. In the fourth, however, after Zimmerman doubled with two outs, Harper brought him home with a sharp grounder up the middle. "Its a strong lineup and I dont think theres too many opposing pitchers out there that want to see it," Desmond said. "It was nice to have Bryce back." The Rockies took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Drew Stubbs and Troy Tulowitzki, a line-drive single by Morneau that moved Tulowitzki to third, and sacrifice fly by Ryan Wheeler to short centre. NOTES: To make room for Harper, the Nationals optioned LHP reliever Xavier Cedeno to Triple-A Syracuse. ...V (inflamed shoulder) on the 15-day DL. Manager Walt Weiss said Franklin Morales will make Chacins scheduled Thursday start, giving the Rockies five left-handers in their starting rotation. The Rockies recalled RHP reliever Chad Bettis from Triple-A Colorado Springs. ... Rockies OF Corey Dickerson, who left Sundays game with a hamstring cramp in the eighth inning, was not in the starting lineup, but entered as part of a double switch in the sixth. ... Veteran lefty Chris Salamida gave the Fish another strong start and the bats continued to boom as the Winnipeg Goldeyes blasted the Sioux Falls Canaries 11-3 at Sioux Falls Stadium on Saturday night. With the victory, the Goldeyes won their fifth straight game (all on the road) and their second straight series, improved to 51-41 on the season and remained a game and half behind Gary in the American Association wild card hunt with only eight games to play. While Salamida went five complete innings allowing only one run on nine scattered hits, the Fish scored 11 runs on 14 hits as Josh Mazzola picked up three of them, scored two runs and drove in one; Casey Haerther had a pair of hits, two runs scored and four RBI; and Yurendell de Caster homered. The Goldeyes didnt waste any time in this one. In the second inning, Mazzola drove in one run and the Fish scored another on a double play as Winnipeg took a quick 2-0 lead. In the fourth, Haerther drove in a pair of runs and Tyler Graham drove home another as Winnipeg took a 5-0 advantage. The Fish added four more in the fifth and put it away as de Caster hit a solo homer, Haerther tripled in a pair of runs and Luis Alen singled home Haerther. At this stage, it was just a matter of making it to the final out. Sioux Falls scored a pair of late runs, but they had no bearing on the outcome. The Fish added two more runs in the sixth as de Caster drove in a run with a ground out and Ryan Scoma drove in another with a sacrifice fly. That made it 11-1 and the Goldeyes were guaranteed their 51st win and a better-than-.500 season. Chris Kissock, Gabe Aguilar and Patrick Keating came on in relief of Salamida and took care of the final 12 outs. Salamida (6-0, 1.93 ERA) picked up the win, while Sioux Falls starter Kyle Vazquez (6-10, 6.26 ERA) suffered the loss. The Goldeyes and Canaries will meet in the final game of this three-game weekend series Sunday at 1 p.m. in Sioux Falls. Matt Rusch will get the start for the Fish. The game can be heard live on TSN 1290. Winnipeg will head home right after Sundays game and open a four-game series against St. Paul on Tuesday night at Shaw Park. Brandon Allen Rams Jersey . rrying the final 6 yards to make

DENVER - Jorge De La Rosa pitched six strong innings, Troy Tulowitzki and Drew Stubbs each hit two-run homers, and the Colorado Rockies beat the Minnesota Twins 6-2 on Friday night in the teams first interleague meeting at Coors Field in six years. De La Rosa (10-6) allowed one run and six hits in winning his fourth straight and reaching double-digit wins in a season for the fourth time in his career. He benefited from a power surge that has seen Tulowitzki hit three homers and Stubbs two in their last two games. The Rockies also benefited from the return of star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, who missed the previous 35 games because of a benign tumour on his left index finger that had to be excised surgically. He singled ahead of Tulowitzkis third-inning home run and made two sparkling defensive plays in right field: a sliding catch in foul territory on a popup by Eduardo Nunez and whipping a throw to third base on the fly to nail Brian Dozier. He was trying to advance from first base on Kendrys Morales single. Brandon Barnes added a pinch-hit home run off reliever Matt Guerrier in the seventh inning. Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau, who played in Minnesota for 11 years and ranks third in team history with 221 homers, went hitless in four at-bats in his first game against his former team. Hell return to Minnesota next week for All-Star game festivities as a member of the NL home run derby team. Kris Johnson (0-1), recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Thursday to start in place of injured Ricky Nolasco (right elbow soreness), gave up five runs on eight hits in four innings. He trailed 2-0 before recording an out. Charlie Blackmon led off the bottom of the first with a single and Stubbs followed by driving a 1-1 pitch into the centre-field bleachers for his 10th homer of the season. Nolan Arenado tripled to start the second and scored when Wilin Rosario followed with a single. Gonzalez singled to start the fourth before Tulowitzki connected for his 21st homer of the season, tying Miamis Giancarlo Stanton for the NL lead. Its also the most home runs Tulowitzki has had in his career before the All-Star break. The Twins got a run in the second on Eduardo Nunezs run-scoring groundout and a second on his eighth-inning fielders choice grounder. NOTES: Stubbs reached double digits in home runs for the third straight year and fifth time in his career. He has hit six of his homers in his last 10 games. ... The Twins travelled to Coors Field for the second time in team history and the first since May 2008, when the team went 1-2 on its inaugural trip to Colorado. ... Johnson was making his second start of the season for the Twins and the sixth of his major league career. ... Barnes has two of the Rockies four pinch home runs this season. The Buckeyes made Penn State pay the price. Braxton Miller passed for three touchdowns and ran for two and Carlos Hyde rushed for 147 yards and two more scores to lead the fourth-ranked Buckeyes to a 63-14 victory over Penn State on Saturday night. "Weve got to keep our foot to the pedal," said Miller, who completed 18 of 24 passes for a career-best 252 yards before leaving in the third quarter. It was the most points surrendered by Penn State (4-3, 1-2 Big Ten) and its worst beating in 114 years. "Its the worst game Ive experienced," said Nittany Lions outside linebacker Mike Hull. Meyer said trying to rout an opponent was not what his team set out to do. "It helps," coach Urban Meyer said of needing to win big to get the attention of those voting in the coaches and Harris polls that are part of the BCS standings formula. "That was not certainly our mindset. Our mindset was to find a way to win this game against a very talented team that we have a lot of respect for that had a lot of momentum coming into this game. ... Things usually work out. Id be disappointed if that was our guys focus. Thats not our focus." But not all of his players felt that way. "We wanted to make a statement," wide-out Devin Smith said. The Ohio State (8-0, 4-0) victory stretched its nations best winning streak to 20 in a row, two behind the school mark which included the 1968 national championship season. That team was recognized during the opening half as the Buckeyes streaked to a 42-7 lead. Nittany Lions freshman QB Christian Hackenberg bobbled the second snap of the night and it never got much better. He ended up throwing two interceptions. A crowd of 105,889 at Ohio Stadium roared from the outset -- and had plenty of reasons. Penn State hadnt given up so many points or been beaten so badly since losing 64-5 to the Duquesne Athletic Club on Nov. 25, 1899. Even Millers backup -- Kenny Guiton -- rushed for two touchdowns. The Buckeyes dominated all the crucial numbers, totalling a staggering 686 yards (to 357 for Penn State) while rushing for 408 yards on 51 attempts -- an average of 8 yards per carry. Bill Belton was one of the few bright spots for the Nittany Lions, gaining 98 yards on 22 carries. It was the most one-sided margin by the Buckeyes and their most points scored in the 29 meetings in the series. The teams had split the last four meetings, with Ohio State holding a cumulative 79-66 scoring advantage. All of those matchups were close. But this one sure wasnt. It got out of hand quickly. "I take full responsibility ffor this loss," Penn State coach Bill OBrien said.dddddddddddd "We didnt have them prepared good enough as a coaching staff, or me has a head coach. Therefore we didnt play good enough." The Buckeyes enforced their will on the Nittany Lions on both sides of the ball in an impressive show of strength. Ohio State scored on six of seven possessions in the first two quarters, throwing deep for scores to wide-open receivers and jamming it between the tackles with Miller and Hyde making the most of gaping holes. "Im improving myself and showing what Ive got," Miller said. "The first half, it went really well: fast, fast, momentum. The game plan worked out." Miller completed all four of his passes for 65 yards after the opening kickoff before Hyde bulled right tackle for a 2-yard TD. In the only real drama of the game, Penn State manufactured a nice drive in response by mixing Belton runs with Hackenberg passes until faced with a third and 5 at the Ohio State 12. Then Hackenberg tried to thread a pass to tight end Adam Breneman at the goal line, with safety Corey "Pittsburgh" Brown picking off the underthrown attempt to end the threat. After the teams traded punts, the Buckeyes scored on five straight possessions. Miller scrambled right and just tumbled into the end zone behind a block by Devin Smith on a 39-yard scoring run. Two plays later, safety C.J. Barnett jumped a route and intercepted a Hackenberg pass and the onslaught was on. Seven plays and 52 yards later, Miller hesitated after taking the snap and had his pick of routes to the goal line, carrying the final 6 yards to make it 21-0. Hackenberg finished 12 of 23 for 112 yards passing with a touchdown and two interceptions. He carried four times for 21 yards in losses. The final score had to bring a chuckle to former Ohio State coach John Cooper. He took a team ranked No. 21 to Happy Valley in 1994 which was run over by the top-ranked Nittany Lions by a score of -- thats right -- 63-14. Even though the players werent motivated to roll up a big score to grab voters, Miller said the thought crossed his mind. "We didnt really talk about it, but I was watching games all day on TV," Miller said. "We cant go out there and predict whats going to happen. We just had a great week of preparation and it turned out well." Meyer, unbeaten in his 20 games since coming to Ohio State, felt his team did some things it hadnt been able to all year. "I like where were at right now as a team," Meyer said. "The most impressive part of the game to me was we caused turnovers and we hit the quarterback a little bit. We havent been doing that." Former Portsmouth defender Sam Sodje and his brother Stephen plan to pursue legal action against the Fake Sheikh Mazher Mahmood. Investigative journalist Mahmood - who had worked for The Sun on Sunday newspaper - was convicted of perverting the course of justice this week.Sam Sodje was among 13 footballers arrested in 2013 for spotfixing following a sting by Mahmood before the case later collapsed due to a lack of evidence. In the aftermath of his arrest, Sodje claims both that his negotiations with Portsmouth over a new contract broke down and that he had to retire as he could not get a deal at another club. The 37-year-old and his sibling had been flown to Dubai believing they were travelling there to discuss a possible charity football match which would benefit their charity, the Sodje Foundation. Sodje played for a number of clubs, including Charlton, but claims he could not get another club after his arrest Sodje claims conversation turned to match fixing and Mahmood filmed him saying he had accepted a £70,000 payment to get deliberately sent off against Oldham. He punched opponent Jose Baxter twice in the groin during the fixture in February 2013 and was consequently dismissed five minutes into the second half of a 1-0 defeat at Boundary Park.Sam Sodje - who stopped playing the following summer - told Sky Sports News HQ: No amount of money you pay will give me back what Ive lost. Its not really about the money. Drogba and Toure are expected to form the spine for Africas top-ranked team when it plays Japan, Colombia and Greece in Group C in Brazil. Toures brother Kolo, a Liverpool defender, was also on the preliminary list released by coach Sabri Lamouchi, along with strikers Wilfried Bony of Swansea and Gervinho of Roma. Emmanuel Eboue, the former Arsenal and now Galatasaray right back, was not picked and looks set to miss the World Cup. Drogba, one of Africas best-ever strikers, is 36 and almost certainly heading to his last World Cup. Ivory Coast has its best chance of going far at the World Cup in Brazil after being drawn in a relatively manageable group. "I never said it was an easy group ... but we have our chances," Lamouchi said. Lamouchi expressed fears Tuesday at his squad announcement over the fitness of midfielders Souleman Bamba and Mathis Bolly, and Everton striker Lacina Traore, but he picked all three in his preliminary squad. The group will be cut to 23 for the World Cup. The coach also said Drogbas recent lack of game time because of a knee problem was an issue. "Not seeing Drogba on the field is also worrying." Lamouchi said. SAINT JOHN, N.B. -- Rachel Homan has confidence, home ice and hammer heading into Sundays final at the Ford Womens World Curling Championship. She intends to turn those assets into gold. Homan, third Emma Miskew, second Alison Kreviazuk and lead Lisa Weagle out of the Ottawa Curling Club will start the championship game against Switzerlands Binia Feltscher with last-rock advantage. Its Canadas reward for their 10-1 record to win the preliminary round and their 8-3 playoff win Friday over the Swiss. None of the other 11 countries at Saint Johns Harbour Station were as effective at scoring more than one point with hammer as Canada, so having it in the first end is an advantage. "Its huge," Homan said. "If you play your game properly, you can control the game." Canada last won a womens world curling title in 2008, when Winnipegs Jennifer Jones claimed it in Vernon, B.C. The wait hasnt been as long for Switzerland, as Mirjam Ott took the title two years ago in Lethbridge, Alta. With spectacular runbacks and raise takeouts, the Canadians drained Switzerlands offence Friday to win the playoff between the tournaments top two teams. That provided the host country a direct route to the gold-medal game, while Switzerland needed a 7-3 win over South Korea in Saturdays semifinal to gain a rematch. Russias Anna Sidorova and South Koreas Ji-sun Kim will play for bronze Sunday in what will be a first womens world curling medal for one of the countries. Homans team had Saturday off, so the skip watched the game in her hotel room and conducted interviews by phone in a raspy voice. "The rest will be good for me," Homan said. "Im glad the final is not today. "Its been a long week and we all need a bit of rest, so were glad that we put in the work and played really well and were able to get this bonus day off. We have some confidence we can take over into the final." Feltscher, 35, won an Olympic silver medal in 2006 playing third for Ott, but Sundays final will be the biggest game of her career as a skip. Third Irene Schori, second Franziska Kaufmann and Lead Christine Urech made their world championship debut in Saint John, so a 9-2 round-robin record and a berth in the final is a surprise. "Weve got nothing to lose tomorrow," Feltscher said via an interpreter. "It would be a great pleasure for us to put that gold medal around our necks." Switzerland was the only country to beat Canada in the round robin. Down 8-4, Homan shook hands after eight ends. Canadian Al Moore, husband of television curling commentator Linda Moore, is one of Switzerlands coaches. "I dont think their expectations were particularly high coming in," Moore said. "My goal coming in was to be in the playoffs. I really thought they could do that. The gold-medal game is a bonus." "They believe they can win. They believe if they go out and play their best, they believe they can win and really thats the difference." Jones and Brad Jacobs gave Canada double curling gold at the Winter Olympics in Sochi last month, with Jones going undefeated en route to the top step of the podium. Homan is on the verge of making it a dominant season for Canadian womens curling. "We have pressure on ourselves as well," Homan said. "You want that gold when it comes down to it. "Seeing Jones and (Brad) Jacobs bring home the gold from the Olympics, I really want to make it a clean sweep for Canada and make sure weve got gold everywhere." The average age of Homan and her teammates is just under 26, but they have big-game experience. Theyve won back-to-back Canadian titles, took bronze in their world championship debut last year in Riga, Latvia, and made it as far as the semifinal in Decembers Olympic trials. Homan was a shot away from making the final last year in Riga, but she missed a double takeout with her last throw of the semifinal to give up a steal and lose 8-7 to Scotland. The travel, time zone and arena were kinder to Homan this time. "Youre going to feel nervous and that comes with the territory and that comes with the sport," Homan said. "We love playing with the pressure and the home crowd. "A little bit different than Latvia. We had about five fans cheering us on. Theres a lot more energy this time around." Kelli Stack and Alex Carpenter also scored for the Americans, who avoided a repeat of Finlands upset at the Four Nations Cup in Lake Placid, N.Y., in November. Finnish goalie Noora Raty made 58 saves in that one, but the three-time Olympian could stop just 40 of 43 U. AUSTIN, Texas -- Like it did against North Carolina, Texas controlled most of the first half against Michigan State. The only difference was how the Longhorns performed in the second half. Texas was outrebounded, 25-13, and allowed the Spartans to take 29 free throws in the final 20 minutes. Adreian Payne scored 19 of his career-high 33 points in the second half as Michigan State picked up its most lopsided win over Texas in school history during a 92-78 victory. Yet it wasnt rebounding, defence or shooting that Texas head coach Rick Barnes was most displeased about. "The biggest area we need to improve in is listening," Barnes said. "We didnt listen the way we needed to. If you dont listen, youre not going to execute." Payne hit 10 of his 13 shots from the floor and knocked down 11 of 12 attempts from the free throw line. He hit a pair of free throws to complete a 14-2 run Michigan State used to put the game away over a 4:22 stretch midway through the second half. "Payne got off scotch-free in the second half because we didnt make him defend," Barnes said. "Michigan State, they werent No. 1 a couple weeks ago for no reason. They beat us. We really needed to make Adreian Payne defend. We didnt do that." Appling, battling a hip pointer, had one of the worst shooting days of his career, connecting on only 2 of 11 attempts from the floor. Payne was one of six Spartans to score during that 14-2 run. Branden Dawson, who had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, started with a layup. Gary Harris, who missed three of the previous four games with an ankle injury, followed with a 3-point play. Between Gavin Schillings putback and Travis Trices 3-pointer, Appling got a layup to go, one of his few bright moments. But the way he responded after the game was one of Izzos favourite moments of the game. "Listening to him after the game, thanking the guys for picking him up was maybe as big a part of this as the win," Izzo said. "We came down here Thursday night because of plane issues.dddddddddddd I wasnt really happy about that but it turned out to be really good because we got to spend a little team time. I think our team grew a little bit." Cameron Ridley scored 13 of his team-high 17 points in a first half mostly controlled by the Longhorns, who was coming off an 86-83 win at No. 14 North Carolina. Texas opened the game on an 8-2 run and Michigan State led for only 56 seconds in the first half when Dawson gave the Spartans a 21-19 edge with a layup. But the Longhorns quickly reclaimed the lead on two 3s by Damarcus Croaker. Javan Felix hit a 15-footer in the final seconds of the first half to give Texas a 38-36 lead going into halftime. His only 3-pointer of the game put the Longhorns on top 47-43 early in the second half but they never held that large of a lead again. "All in all, it wasnt a championship but its a big road win for us against a very, very good team," Izzo said. "I think both of those teams have a bright future in the second half of the year." Texas entered the game averaging nearly 10 more rebounds per game than its opponent. But Michigan State outrebounded the Longhorns, 25-13, in the second half and shot 50 per cent from the floor for the game while holding Texas to 39.3 per cent shooting. "We have to learn how to play for 40 minutes, especially against good teams like Michigan State," Felix said. "We played right into their hands by not moving the ball and not getting any movement on offence. That resulted in fastbreak points and got them in a rhythm." Texas had four players score in double figures for the 10th straight game as Isaiah Taylor had 16 points and five assists while Javan Felix and Holmes each added 11 points. Michigan State also had four players with at least 10 points, including Trice, who missed the Spartans last game with a foot blister but chipped in 13 points while hitting 3 of 4 3-pointers. Harris scored 19 points in what was Michigan States most lopsided win over Texas in school history. NEW YORK -- It was a goal literally years in the making, thanks to a shot Martin St. Louis works on day in day out. "The goal he scored tonight is exactly what you see him practise every time hes on the ice," said Rangers coach Alain Vigneault. "Like 100 pucks, hes trying to put it right there." On Sunday night, St. Louis top-shelf snap shot from just below the faceoff dot was a dagger to the heart of the Canadiens. The goal, which came at 6:02 of overtime, moved New York within one win of its first Stanley Cup final in 20 years with a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. The win, which gave the Rangers a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference final, marked the first time the home side had triumphed in the series. "I felt I had room (on the glove side), and I tried to trust what I saw, and obviously Ive gone to that side quite a bit that last few games and hes made some good saves on me," St. Louis said of Habs goalie Dustin Tokarski. "Sometimes you just have to keep trusting what you see and I was fortunate to get it by him." Said Tokarski: "I obviously gave him some room and he took advantage of it." Game 5 is Tuesday night in Montreal, with the Rangers looking to put the Canadiens to the sword for a third straight game at the Bell Centre. Carl Hagelin and Derick Brassard also scored for the Rangers, both on breakaways generated by stretch passes. Francis Bouillon and P.K. Subban -- who played 33:16 on the night -- scored for Montreal. The Rangers outshot the Canadiens 26-24 in regulation. Montreal had a 5-3 edge in overtime. The Canadiens will fly home full of regrets, especially after coming back twice to force overtime. The Montreal power play was one-for-eight and yielded a Rangers short-handed goal. "We had the opportunity on the power play and we didnt take advantage of it tonight," said coach Michel Therrien. "Yes, we scored a goal. It was a timely goal, but we gave up one and that was the (story) of the game. I thought our power play had to be better." And Montreals defensive play on the winning goal was shocking. The Canadiens had several chances to get the puck out of their defensive zone but couldnt do it. St. Louis had so much room he could have parked a Winnebago in the faceoff circle as tired defenders Andrei Markov and Alexei Emelin were caught on the wrong side of the play. "Well, we got a few chances to get out of it and move the puck harder in our own end, and it cost us the game," lamented Therrien. It was the third goal of the series for St. Louis, who attended the funeral of his mother between Games 1 and 2. He was buzzing all night, leading the Rangers with five shots on goal in 21:01 of ice time. The goal was his first playoff overtime winner since Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final on June 5, 2004 at Calgary as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning. In a largely empty dressing room, the Canadiens looked for positives. They will have a rabid home crowd -- the best in the world, according to goalie Tokarski -- at their back Tuesday as they look to stave off elimination. "I dont think frustrated is the word," said Tokarski. "We had some chances, hit a post late and had a power play (in OT). Its a game of inches and we came short." Said Montreal captain Brian Gionta: "I thought Tokarski played great for us, gave us a chance to win that game. Were not out of the series by any means." History favours the Rangers, who are 12-1 in the 13 best-of-seven playoff series in which they led three games to one after Game 4. Montreal is 2-16 when trailing 3-1 in a playoff series. The last time they overturned such a deficit was in 2009-10 against Washington. But the Canadiens have already staved off elimination in these playoffs, reeling off two straight wins to defeat Boston four games to three in the previous round. "This is far from over," said Rangers forward Brad Richards. "I remember sitting in here down 3-1 against Pittsburgh. They will feel bad tonight, but tomorrow they will wake up in front of their home crowd and once that game starts 3-1, you throw that out the window and it is back in the battle again. "We have to realize the longer it goes the more life and more belief they get, so its going to be a very important start to the next game." Sundays win came 20 years to the day that the Rangers defeated New Jersey 4-2 in Game 6 of the Eastern final. New York captain Mark Messier, who had guaranteed the win, scored a natural hat trick that night. The Rangers went on to beat Vancouver for the Cup. Goalie Mike Richter and five other members of that championship team were in the stands Sunday. New York was 0-for-3 with the man-advantage but scored shorthanded through Hagelin. The Rangers took nine penalties -- including three straight in the third period and overtime -- to four for Montreal. Vigneault did not dispute any of the calls. "We put ourselves behind the 8-ball a few times by taking, I think it was five penalties 200 feet from our net. Were going to have to do a much better job than that," he said. "But give credit to our killers and our goaltender. They did a real good job." After Subban tied it at 2-2 two minutes into the third, Montreal forward Alex Galchenyuk rang one off the goal post with a little over three minutes remaining. He thought he scored but play continued. Replays showed Lundqvist got his stick to the puck before it hit the crossbar and bounced down -- in front of the goal-line. With New Yorks Derek Stepan recovering from a broken jaw suffered on a Brandon Prust hit in Game 3, Dominic Moore moved up to centre Rick Nash and Chris Kreider. Brassard returned from injury to centre Mats Zuccarello and Benoit Pouliot. J.T. Miller took the place of the suspended Dan Carcillo on the fourth line. For Montreal, Michael Bournival stepped in for the suspended Prust on the fourth line and Bouillon replaced defenceman Nathan Beaulieu. As in Game 3, Montreal found itself down 1-0 after a first period which could have been worse on the scoreboard. New York came into the game not having allowed a power-play goal in its last eight games (22 times shorthanded). And the penalty kill produced offence. The short-handed Rangers went ahead 12 seconds into a Pouliot penalty thanks to a Brian Boyle stretch pass from the blue-line. The speedy Hagelin broke in alone, faked a shot and tucked a backhand through the legs of Tokarski at 7:18 for his sixth of the playoffs. Montreals David Desharnais failed to corral a pass behind the New York goal and Ryan McDonagh poked the puck to Boyle to trigger the play. It was the Rangers first short-handed goal in 70 playoff games, dating back to April 9, 2008. The penalty count was three to one against the Rangers by the 10-minute mark, but the Canadiens power play was sputtering. Montreal began to push back after the goal and Brian Gionta had a glorious chance 12 minutes in on a Lundqvist rebound at the doorstep, but the puck bobbled and Lundqvists pad was there when the Montreal captain finally got control. Tokarski was buried by a sliding Nash five minutes into the second period but survived the collision. That prompted the officials to warn both benches about not crashing the crease. The New York-born Bouillon tied it up with a blistering shot from the top of a circle on a two-on-one with Desharnais after a nifty Rene Bourque pass between his legs. Lundqvist got a piece of it with his shoulder, but the puck still went in top corner glove side at 8:08. At times, the game was like table hockey with both sides looking to open up the other with long passes. Tokarski robbed St. Louis on a breakaway late in the period, catching the puck with his glove as if it was spring-loaded. The Rangers went ahead with 56 seconds remaining in the second when Dan Girardi found Brassard with a superb stretch pass from deep in his own end. Brassard raced in and unloaded a slapshot from the slot to beat Tokarski. Lundqvist picked up an assist, the first by a Rangers goalie in the playoffs since Richter on May 11, 1997. An early Montreal power play in the third -- its sixth man-advantage -- finally paid off when Subban hammered home a slapshot from the blue-line two minutes in. It was Subbans first point of the series -- and first in six games -- but also his fifth goal of the playoffs. Lundqvist recorded his 41st career playoff victory, tying him with Richter for first on the teams all-time playoff wins list. John Wall had 14 points and 10 assists, and Marcin Gortat had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Wizards, who have won seven of eight. This one was noteworthy if only for substantial contributions from recent additions Drew Gooden and Andre Miller, two thirty-somethings who teamed up for a run that padded the lead in the first half. Alec Burks scored 19 points, and Trey Burke added 14 to lead the Jazz, who have dropped the first four games of their six-game road trip. Their 7-24 road record is the worst in the Western Conference. The Wizards led by as many as 15 in both the second and third quarters, but they never could put the Jazz away. Diante Garretts 3-pointer cut the deficit to five early in the fourth, and it wasnt until Ariza made it 96-85 with a 3-pointer with 4:11 to play that the Wizards could start to feel somewhat comfortable. Thirty-year-old Gooden and 37-year-old Miller made their marks early in the second quarter. Gooden, playing his fourth game of a 10-day contract after sitting idle since last summer, scored his first points of the season by rolling ooff eight quick points.dddddddddddd Three of the four baskets came on assists from Miller, who was acquired in a trade deadline deal two weeks ago from the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets shipped Miller after he had been excused from the team since his argument with the coach during a game on New Years Day. Gooden finished with 12 points, his first double-digit game since April 21, 2012. Miller finished with six assists, his most since Dec. 23. In addition, the quiet Verizon Center crowd got to see some buzzer-beaters. Jeremy Evans banked in a 21-footer to wrap up the first quarter after each team committed a turnover in the final two seconds. Wall ended the first half with a fast-break reverse slam after poking the ball away from Burke. Evans struck again at the end of the third quarter with a baseline jumper with one-tenth of a second on the clock. The Wizards improved to 4-1 since Nene was sidelined with a knee injury. Ariza and Gortat have noticeably stepped up in the Brazilian big mans absence. Ariza was 4 for 6 from 3-point range Wednesday and is 26 for 40 over his past six games. LOS ANGELES -- Don Mattingly had enough confidence to keep Chris Withrow on the mound with one out in the eighth inning after he walked the bases loaded. It paid off against two of the toughest outs in the majors. Withrow struck out Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki to escape the jam and help preserve a 6-3 victory for Paul Maholm and the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night. "Obviously, you dont like to see the bases loaded with those guys coming up," Maholm said. "But youve got confidence in Chris because with the stuff he has, he can strike out anybody and get out of anything he gets himself into." Withrow, a first-round draft pick by the Dodgers in 2007, relieved Maholm with a 5-2 lead and walked the bases loaded. But Gonzalez, who has hit 15 homers against the Dodgers since the start of the 2010 season, fanned on a 1-2 pitch and Tulowitzki whiffed on a 2-2 delivery. "Thats a perfect situation for me and Tulo to change the game, but it didnt happen tonight," Gonzalez said. Adrian Gonzalez homered for the third straight game and Matt Kemp also went deep in support of Maholm (1-2). The left-hander threw 84 pitches over seven innings, allowing two runs and six hits in his fourth start with the defending NL West champions. "Everything was working," Maholm said. "I was able to throw breaking balls for strikes. I fell behind some guys, but I was confident enough in my sinker to throw it behind in the count and get some groundballs. I felt way more in rhythm today than I have in any other outing." Maholm, a veteran left-hander who signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract as a free agent in February, had lost his previous seven decisions against the Rockies and was 1-8 with a 6.63 ERA in 10 career starts against them. "I cant tell you I was the most confident person going to the mound, knowing my history against them," Maholm said. "But I havent faced them in a few years, and I think Ive changed as a pitcher since then. Besides, I wasnt pitching in Colorado, so you just go out there, try to get ahead and get groundballs." Yasiel Puig added an insurance run in the ninth with a ground-rule double, and Kenley Jansen got three outs for his ninth save after Brian Wilson walked the first two batters in the ninth -- one of whom scored on a bases-loaded groundout by Charlie Culberson. Juan Nicasio (2-1) gave up five runs and eight hits in 4 1-3 innings for Colorado. The Dodgers grabbed a 3-1 lead with three runs in the third, capped by Kemps towering drive to right field that barely cleared Brandon Barnes outstretched glove as he made a leaping try. Kemp initially thought he was robbed of a homer -- as did the crowd of 45,241 -- until Barnes opened his empty glove. A relieved Kemp then continued his jog around the bases with a huge grin after his second homer in 52 at-bats since the pair he hit against San Franciscos Matt Cain on April 6 at Dodger Stadium. "I thought he caught the ball. Then I saw him slam his glove on the ground and that showed me that he didnt, so I was happy about that," Kemp said. Puig added a two-out RBI single in the fourth -- the first time this season that hes driven in runs in back-to-back games after his home run and RBI single Friday night. Gonzalez led off the fifth with his 1,500th career hit, an opposite-field homer to left that gave the Dodgers a 5-2 lead. The Rockies opened the scoring in the third on Barnes two-out RBI single. Colorado got another run in the fifth on Justin Morneaus RBI single, following a double to centre by Wilin Rosario that Kemp lost in the twilight. But second baseman Gordon kept the damage to a minimum when he robbed DJ LeMahieu of a single up the middle with a diving play and started an inning-ending double play with a backhanded flip to shortstop Justin Turner. NOTES: Ramirez left the game because of a bruised right thumb. X-rays were negative. ... Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw will throw another bullpen session Monday, following the 56-pitch minor league rehab start he had on Friday night with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga. Mattingly would prefer one more rehab start for the two-time Cy Young Award winner, who hasnt pitched since the season opener on March 22 in Australia because of a muscle strain in his upper back. "I know our medical staff does. Im not sure if Kersh buys into that," Mattingly said. "Theres been a small debate going on, but I dont want to be a part of the debate. Well just see how his pen goes, and go from there. He felt good today. He said he felt like he didnt even pitch." ... Colorado RHP Chris Martin made his big league debut with a scoreless seventh inning, a day after the team purchased his contract from Triple-A Colorado Springs. ... The pair were a stroke ahead of a group of six golfers that included defending champion Brett Rumford of Australia and Alexander Levy of France, who briefly moved into a tie with Quiros and Dyson in the growing darkness on his back nine but bogeyed the par-3 8th hole before play was suspended. He has one hole remaining to play. Englands Ian Poulter was in a group of 12 golfers just behind at 3-under on a crowded leaderboard. Henrik Stenson, who has a chance to take over the top ranking from Tiger Woods with a win here, had a 71. The Swede, currently ranked third, has been battling the flu this week and didnt get in any practice time on the course at Genzon Golf Club before the opening round. "Im not throwing up but Im not too keen on eating and my energy levels arent the best," he said. "Its not easy to play a golf course blind, and it definitely costs a couple of shots when you havent seen it, or havent played it." Chinese 15-year-old Guan Tianlang, who became the youngest player to make the cut at the Masters last year, was level with Stenson at 71. "I think today I played pretty consistently. My putting feels good, but needs a couple changes so if tomorrow I got more birdies, will keep me going," he said. Quiros has six wins on the European Tour, but hasnt had a top-3 finish in the past three seasons. The Spaniard said hes worked on improving his putting this year and the results are starting to come -- he finished tied for fifth at the Joburg Open in February and then joint 13th last week at the Malaysian Open. "You cant see it yet on the rankings, but I have been playing better," said the Spaniard, ranked a lowly 240th in the world.dddddddddddd Dyson, who also has six wins on tour but none since 2011, said he played some of his best golf in a long time during his round, sinking six birdies to go with one bogey. "I really didnt miss a shot. I missed two fairways just, and didnt miss a green so gave myself a lot chances, which is always nice," he said. Stenson is coming off a banner year that saw him become the first golfer to win the European Tours Race to Dubai and the U.S. PGA Tours FedEx Cup in the same season. Hes gotten off to a slow start this season, however, with his best finish a tie for 14th at the Masters. According to the European Tour, Stenson can nudge Woods out of the top spot in the rankings this week only if wins the tournament and there are no withdrawals in the field to affect the maximum number of points hed receive. The Swede had back-to-back birdies on his first two holes, but then struggled to find the fairway and greens down the stretch, making four bogeys. He blamed the state of the rough for some "horrific lies." "I took a six on 13 by just being off the green -- you cant even get the ball hardly on the green to save par. I think its a course that when the rough gets that silly in certain areas, it kind of takes away a lot of skill," he said. Poulter is also looking for a boost, which he typically gets in Asia. Hes won three titles here, including the 2012 HSBC Champions at Mission Hills in Shenzhen. He had four birdies and narrowly missed a couple others, including a 6-footer on the 9th that would have moved him into a share of the lead. "Coming from Augusta National, where (the greens) are quite quick, you come here and the greens are very slow," he said. "Even the putts that look downhill, down grain, are just not very quick and it takes some adjusting to." CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Bobcats have relied heavily on Al Jefferson to put them in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race. On Saturday night, they proved they could win without their veteran centre having a big night. "It shows that we have other guys that can step up," point guard Kemba Walker said. With Jefferson double-teamed most of the night, Walker elevated his game, pouring in 31 points to help the Bobcats defeat the Memphis Grizzlies 92-89 for their fourth win in five nights. Charlotte is 4-0 since the All-Star break, marking its longest winning streak since March 2011. The Bobcats won despite Jefferson being held to just six points -- tying a season-low -- on 2-of-13 shooting. Jefferson came in having scored 29 or more points in eight of his last 11 games and at least 20 points in 17 of the last 19. The Bobcats used an 18-3 run in the fourth quarter to break open a tight game and then held on down the stretch with Walker making four free throws in the final 25 seconds to snap Memphis four-game win streak. It was the second straight night Walker hit four free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal a victory. "I shoot so many free throws in practice Im just thinking, "Hey, make them," said Walker, who was 10 of 10 from the foul line. Charlotte had lost the second night of a back-to-back eight straight times before winning two this week. "To win four in a row against good teams and to play this well in a game like that that was hard fought, you have to feel good about it," Bobcats coach Steve Clifford said. But now the Bobcats face a four-game stretch against the NBAs four best teams -- San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Miami and Indiana -- with the first three games on the road. The Grizzlies were led by Mike Conley, who had 16 points, but twice missed 3-point attempts when he had a chance to tie the game on Memphis final possession. Marc Gasol had 15 points, and Zac Randolph had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Memphis, which fell two games behind Dallas in the race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Bobcats trailed 66-64 early in the fourth quarter when Anthony Tolliver got hot from the outside, igniting an 18-3 run with three 3-pointers to give Charlotte a 13-point lead. Tolliver finished with nine points. The Grizzlies battled back to take the lead when Conley knocked down an 18-footer with 51 seconds left. But Josh McRoberts sank two free throws to put the Bobcats ahead for good with 38 seconds left. Conley missed a jumper on the other end and then fouled Walker as he was heading up the court. Walker made two free throws to push the lead to three with 24 seconds left. Gasol answered with an inside layup, but Walker hit two more free throws with 10.7 seconds left to push the lead back to three. Conley had two open looks in the final 6 seconds, but couldnt connect. "We wanted to win, but the Charlotte Bobcats were the aggressors," Memphis guard Tony Allen said. "They were physical. Coach told us before the game that their talent doesnt jump out at you, but what does is just how hard they play. Theres no excuse because they were the aggressors and they pretty much outworked us tonight." The Grizzlies game plan was to make sure Jefferson didnt beat them, aggressively double-teaming the 6-foot-10, 289-pound centre every time he touched the ball in the low post. They limited Jefferson to four points on 1-of-6 shooting in the first half and held Charlotte to 39 per cent shooting to build a 48-42 halftime lead. "Hes shooting it up and theyre going to him a lot," Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger said. "We just kept staying in front of him and making his shots tough." Jefferson picked up his third foul with 2:52 left in the first half -- a call that didnt sit well with Bobcats coach Steve Clifford, who was slapped with a technical foul for arguing. It was his seventh technical foul of the season. NOTES: Atlanta Falcons running back Steven Jackson and former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad were at the game. ... It also moves the Jets to within four points of Dallas and Phoenix for the final playoff spot in the West. The Jets had gone 12 games scoring three or fewer. The Jets lost Ondrej Pavelec, Jim Slater and Chris Thorburn to injury Friday vs the New York Rangers, so Coach Paul Maurice had to do some line juggling. The line of Andrew Ladd, Bryan Little and Michael Frolik stayed intact, with Blake Wheeler, Olli Jokinen and Dustin Byfuglien as a unit. Evander Kane was on the left side with Eric ODell and Devin Setoguchi, while Matt Halischik, Patrice Cormier - up from St. Johns) - and Anthony Peluso made up the fourth line. Michael Hutchinson, also up from the Ice-Caps, backed up Al Montoya. Jacob Trouba with his 8th of the year opened the scoring at 3:11, the assist to Wheeler. Dallas scored two goals 37 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead, Alex Chiasson at 6:25, Tyler Seguin his 30th at 7:02. Frolik with his 14th got the Jets even and also seemed to get the team going again. Toby Enstrom had the only assist on the goal at 11:54. Enstrom followed that up with his eighth of the year at 17:02 to regain the lead for the Jets. Wheeler and Cormier assisted on the tally. Shots in the first were 16-10 Jets. At one point the Stars were outshooting the Jets 6-2. Olli Jokinen scored 29 seconds into the second to make it 4-2. The goal chased starter Tim Thomas with Christopher Nilstrop coming in. The goal was Jokinens 16th of the season, with assists to Wheeler and Byfuglien. The Jets made it a 5-2 game on a power play goal by Byfuglien at 16:30 of the period, his 18th goal of the season, seventh on the power play and 23rd power-play point on the teams 33 power-play goals. Enstrom and Jokinen assists on the goal. Shots in the second were 8-3 Jets. The Jets put the game away in the third. Byfuglien scored his 19th from Wheeler and Jokinen at 3:14 and Kane his 16th unassisted at 7:33 to snap an 11 game goalless drought. Shots inn the third 14-10 Jets and over the game 34-27 Jets.dddddddddddd For Wheeler, the four assists tied a career high for points in a game. He also had four assists in February of 2012 against Colorado. Wheeler has only one goal in the last 14 games, but does have 11 assists in that span. The two goals and one assist by Byfuglien give him 6-2-8 in the last five games and 9-9-18 since the move to right wing. Enstrom and Jokinen also had three-point nights, each a goal and two assists. Cormier drew an assist on the Enstrom goal, his first point as a Jet. cCHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Bobcats have relied heavily on Al Jefferson to put them in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race. The win for Montoya was his 11th of the year. Byfuglien led the team with seven shots on goal before leaving late in the third due to injury. He is expected to play Monday night in St. Louis (TSN Jets, TSN 1290). Enstrom was a team high plus four, while Zach Bogosian led in ice time at 21:57. ODell won eight of 13 face-offs. Frolik extended his point streak to four, while Little had his stopped at four. Jets power play was one for six, penalty kill a perfect two for two to run the streak of successful kills to 17 for 17. This post-game from Montoya, "Ive been waiting for this chance, so am going to enjoy it and get ready for tomorrow against one of the best teams in the league." Montoya was not overly busy, but the Jets did give up some first period breakaways forcing Montoya to make some big saves at key times. Post-game from Coach Maurice was asked about Byfuglien leaving in the third. With a smile on his face this was his answer. "He thought if he got the third, he would get too much attention. Didnt want to get shadowed on the ice. We expect him to be fine for tomorrow. Hes been our best player, hes excited for these games." On getting back in the win column, "Earlier we were winning on compete and emotion. Now our game has gotten better. Its really important for a young team to have success in a big game. Getting down early and then coming back and being very good" The game in St. Louis ends three in four nights for the Jets, but with a home game Wednesday against Colorado are still in a five games in eight days stretch. Saratoga Springs, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Historic Saratoga Race Course will conduct 40 days of thoroughbred racing in the coming year and serve as the focal point for the New York Racing Associations 2015 racing calendar. The New York Racing Association announced Friday that its three tracks - Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Saratoga - will have a total of 251 days of live thoroughbred racing. Racing at Saratoga will he held six days a week, Wednesday through Monday, beginning Friday, July 24 through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7. The current Aqueduct meeting continues through March 22 with a break from Monday, March 23 through Tuesday, March 31. Racing will be conducted four days a week for four weeks - the last week of February and the first three weeks of March. In light of the national foal crop reduction, our goal in creating a four-day race week during this period is to increase field size and provide additional rest for our equine athletes in advance of our Aqueduct spring meet, said Martin Panza, Senior Vice President of Racing Operations for the New York Racing Association. In essence, the March break is allowing us to create a more vibrant spring meet at the Big A. Racing at Aqueduct will conclude with a 19-day spring meet from April 1 through April 26, with the $1 million Wood Memorial for 3-year-olds on Saturday, April 4. Belmont Park will have a 59-day spring/summer meet beginning Wednesday, April 29 through Sunday, July 19 with the 147th $1.5 million Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 6. Following Saratoga, the Belmont Fall Championship meet will run 38 days from Friday, Sept. 11 through Sunday, Nov. 23, with Super Saturday scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26. The impressive skill set is visible

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Ralph Wilson fulfilled his vow in keeping the Bills in Buffalo during his lifetime. Though they wont be leaving any time soon following the 95-year-old Pro Football Hall of Fame owners death, their long-term future is in question. The Bills are essentially locked in to playing at Ralph Wilson Stadium through the next six years. Thats because of a non-relocation provision included in the teams lease agreement that would require the Bills to pay a $400 million penalty if they leave before the 2019 season. "Anyone expecting to see the Los Angeles Bills is sorely mistaken," SportsCorp President Marc Ganis told The Associated Press. "They cant move even if they wanted to. It would go against the ironclad agreement done with Ralphs blessing." Ganis, a close observer of the NFL, heads a Chicago-based consulting firm and is very familiar with the 10-year lease the Bills negotiated with state and county governments in December 2012. "With that lease, Ralph gave away hundreds of millions of dollars as, in essence, a parting gift to Buffalo," Ganis said. While it looks highly unlikely any potential owner would try to break the lease, nothing is impossible. And as for what happens beyond 2019 is uncertain and largely dependent on the next owner. In 2020, the Bills have a one-time opportunity to opt out of the lease for $28.4 million. "It buys us seven years, which is a substantial amount of time to make sure the next ownership team that comes in sees the benefit of keeping that team in Buffalo," Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy said in Elmira on Wednesday. "We dont want to lose them." But that is certainly a possibility. The teams founder and sole owner died at his home in Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich., on Tuesday and survived by wife Mary and two daughters. Wilson, however, expressed no interest of leaving the team to his family. As a result, the original American Football League franchise is expected to be placed into a trust overseen by the executors of Wilsons estate before being put up for sale. That opens the potential of the team being sold and relocated. Los Angeles could be a landing spot. So would Toronto, where the Bills played annual regular-season games since 2008 before postponing their series last month. "Well, I havent focused on that," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said when asked about the franchises future at league meetings in Orlando, Fla. "We know the terms of that lease. And we also know we have to find a long-term solution to keep the Bills there, and thats what well continue to work to do." Nonetheless, a list of ownership candidates has emerged to purchase a franchise valued at around $870 million. Its not every day an NFL team goes on sale. The list includes: -- Bills Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly has made no secret that he has put together a group of investors to buy the team. Kellys health, however, has become an issue. The 54-year-old is preparing to undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatment following a recurrence of cancer. -- California-based bond fund manager Jeffrey Gundlach expressed interest in buying the Bills three years ago. Gundlach, who founded DoubleLine Capital, is a Bills fan and has ties to Buffalo. -- Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula. -- Two Toronto-based groups -- Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment and Rogers Communications -- have been mentioned as groups interested in buying the Bills with the intention of relocating them north of the border. -- New Jersey rocker Jon Bon Jovi has expressed interest in becoming an NFL owner, and is close with MLSE President Tim Leiweke. -- Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs or his immediate family cant be counted out. Jacobs is from Buffalo, and his Delaware North food service company is headquartered in the city. Jacobs NFL interests date to the late 1990s, when he failed in a bid to purchase the Browns in their return to Cleveland. NFL rules bar owners from running sports teams in separate markets, meaning Jacobs would either have to give up his holdings in the Bruins or, perhaps, have members of his family run the Bills. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz refused to speculate on what could happen after 2019. He is certain the Bills will continue playing in Orchard Park for the near future and believes it was always Wilsons intention to keep the team in Buffalo. "If we had ownership that wasnt interested in it, (the lease) never would have happened," Poloncarz said. "He put in place a provision that locks this team in for many years to come, even after his death. And that says a lot about his commitment to western New York and the fans of the Buffalo Bills." You can look at 2014s final Thursday Night Football battle between the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars in two ways, a tilt to decide who will end up in the AFC South cellar or an opportunity to garner a better pick in the 15 NFL Draft. The Titans and Jags will square off having mustered only two wins apiece with one of Tennessees coming when it edged Jacksonville, 16-14, back in Music City on Oct. 12. Since that game, the teams have combined to lose 14 of 16 contests with the Titans dropping eight straight in Ken Whisenhunts first season at the helm, and the Jaguars losing six of eight behind rookie quarterback Blake Bortles. Each team suffered its latest setback in Week 15 as Tennessee fell to the lowly New York Jets, 16-11, and Jacksonville came up short in Baltimore, 20-12. The Jets Chris Ivory scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 3:09 remaining in the fourth quarter to lift New York to its triumph in Nashville although the Titans made it interesting and nearly pulled off another Music City Miracle on the games last play, lateraling numerous times before Delanie Walker came up short at the Jets 9-yard line. Jake Locker made his first start for the Titans since Week 5 and likely his last with the organization as he left the game late in the second quarter with a dislocated left shoulder. The injury-prone Locker, the No. 8 overall pick in the 2011 draft, started because rookie Zach Mettenberger re-injured his right shoulder the week prior. He was subsequently placed on season-ending injured reserve this week and is unlikely to return to the Titans next season. To me, hes a true pro, Whisenhunt said. Hes a great teammate, works hard and you obviously feel badly for Jake just from the standpoint of having to have surgery and his season being over. Charlie Whitehurst replaced Locker against the Jets and was 10-of-24 for 203 yards in his first action since Week 7. The veteran will start again this week and be backed up by the recently signed Jordan Palmer. I havent played as well as I wanted to this year. Theres a few plays I left out there, Whitehurst said. But every time I go out there, theres a few personal things that come out of it -- Its been fun to do it and kind of see what youre made of. Tennessees current eight-game skid is the franchises longest since the 1994 Houston Oilers dropped 11 straight. Jacksonville, meanwhile, fell in the Charm City when the Ravens Joe Flacco threw for 221 yards with a touchdown and the Baltimore defense kept the Jaguars out of the end zone. Josh Scobee kicked four field goals to account for the Jags entire offensive output. Bortles threw for 210 yards with an interception for the Jaguars. He was, however, also sacked eight times by a swarming Baltimore defense that limited Jacksonville to 248 total yards. Theres gonna be talk about how Hey Jacksonville played extremely hard, very physical, came into our house and did some really good things, special teams wise two phases did really good but I told them were not into moral victories, Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said. Were into victories. Were into victories. Thats what were after. After the beating Bortles was diagnosed with a mid-foot sprain and has been in a walking boot but the Jags are hopeful he will play on Thursday and the rookie was back at practice on a limited basis by Tuesday. As far as I know, its going to be Blake, Jaguars offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch said Tuesday. Were going to obbviously see how he practices.dddddddddddd He did better, Bradley added on Tuesday. You could see him improve. The Titans lead their all-time series with the Jags by a 22-17 margin, including the win earlier this season when Jackie Battle rushed for a TD and kicker Ryan Succop booted three field goals. Bortles threw for a career-high 336 yards and a touchdown in the setback but Tennessee sacked him six times and blocked a potential game-winning 55-yard field goal with 12 seconds left. WHAT TO WATCH FOR Tis the time of year when certain teams give up and the Titans seem to be at the top of that list, failing to succeed no matter who is under center, Mettenberger, Locker or Whitehurst. The (injury) circumstances arent great, but when something like that does happen, it does give you a chance, Whitehurst said. Theres no substitute for it. You get to play. You get to play in the NFL. The lack of a consistent competent option at the games most important position has hindered Tennessee all season and the Titans head into the final two games with the NFLs 29th ranked offense, mustering just 307.9 yards per game and scoring less than 14 points per game during their current skid. The Jags are even worse, however, 31st in a 32-team league while averaging under 300 ypg at 293.8. On paper that should make things easier for the respective defensive units but they havent exactly set the world on fire either as the Jags stop unit is ranked 28th, surrendering 372.6 ypg, and the Titans are actually a tick below at 29, allowing six yards more. The run game has been particularly daunting for Tennessee. The Titans cant run it, amassing under 65 yards per game over the last 2 1/2 months, and they cant stop opponents from running it, surrendering a league-worst 139.6 ypg. Jacksonville has a little more hope because Bortles, the No. 3 overall pick in last years draft, has shown signs, albeit only for brief periods. Bortles has thrown 10 touchdown passes versus 17 interceptions and has the leagues second-worst passer rating at 70.6 but hes also under significant duress more often than not, being sacked an NFL-high 41 times since hes taken over from Chad Henne. The impressive skill set is visible, though, and Bortles has embraced a leadership role. A lot of (the sacks) are on me, Bortles said. Some are on the offensive line. Its on the whole offense. Its football, so you better be used to getting hit. Bortles also seems aware that he needs to speed up his decision making. In college, you can run around and do more stuff, but in the NFL guys are a lot faster and stronger, the Central Florida product said. So its a little more difficult. You want to be able to get rid of the ball and live another down, not lose yards on third down and create longer field-goal situation. Those are definitely things Im working on. Whitehurst has actually been Tennessees most effective QB this season, compiling an 89.1 passer rating and going 1-2 as a starter with the lone triumph being against the Jags in the October game when he completed 17-of-28 passes for 233 yards. I feel good about Charlie and what hes done, Whisenhunt said. He started against Jacksonville the last time and played a pretty good game. Hes been a great support in the room, and we have confidence in him. OVERALL ANALYSIS Neither team looks primed to much offensively but the Jags seem like the lesser of two evils here mainly because the Titans have been an abject disaster on the road, losing six straight and being outscored by an average of 34 to 16 in those games. Sports Network predicted outcome: Jaguars 16, Titans 13 China Jerseys Cheap Cheap Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Discount NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys 2020 Wholesale Jerseys 2020 Wholesale NFL White Jerseys ' ' '

NEW ORLEANS -- The Saints Jimmy Graham and the NFL Players Association were dealt a setback Wednesday when an arbitrator ruled that he can only be considered a tight end for the purposes of his franchise tag designation. NFLPA had filed a grievance arguing that Graham was used as a wide receiver often enough to qualify for the more lucrative receiver tag. But arbitrator Stephen Burbank disagreed and now the NFLPA is reviewing his ruling, and will advise Graham on his options, which could include an appeal. Grahams case is being closely watched around the league because it could set a precedent for negotiations involving players who fill diverse roles in their teams offensive or defensive schemes. For example, some outside linebackers in a 3-4 defensive scheme could argue their right to receive the higher defensive end tag. NFL franchise tags, which allow each team to keep one prized player who is due to become a free agent, were set this year at $7 million for tight ends and $12.3 million for receivers. Burbank, who is also a University of Pennsylvania law professor, found that Graham could fulfil the standard duties of a tight end when he was lined up in the slot or within 4 yards of an offensive tackle, as he was for most of his snaps. Burbank further pointed out that defences usually accounted for Graham as a tight end, regardless of his alignment, by assigning a linebacker or safety to cover him. "Like tight ends, wide receivers and running backs often line up in the slot," Burbanks ruling stated. "The defence employed against any player so aligned turns on the players position, not his alignment, because of the physical attributes and skill sets of the players in those positions." Burbank indicated there could be merit to the NFLPA contention that Graham cannot be considered a tight end when he does in fact line up as a wideout. However, because both sides stipulated that Graham lined up within 4 yards of an offensive tackle for nearly 55 per cent of his snaps, Burbank said he did not need to address the minority of instances in which offensive formations employed by Saints coach Sean Payton placed Graham at a wider distance from the offensive line. The NFLs collective bargaining agreement states that franchise tags should be applied according to the position at which a player lines up for the majority of his snaps. Graham has skipped Saints off-season practices while holding out for a new, long-term contract. A favourable ruling from Burbank would have further enhanced negotiating leverage for Graham, who last season led the Saints with 86 catches for 1,215 yards and 16 touchdowns. Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said the club would have no comment on the ruling, and Sexton did not respond to a request for comment. In its statement, the NFLPA said: "We will also continue to assist Graham and his representation as necessary to help the player reach a fair long-term deal with the New Orleans Saints." Such disputes are not frequent, but draw lots of attention because of their potential to set a precedent. Baltimores Terrell Suggs, the 2011 Defensive Player of the Year, argued in 2008 that he should be tagged as an end, not a linebacker. The difference back then was about $800,000. That dispute ended when Suggs signed a new long-term contract with the Ravens. He later helped them win the 2012 NFL championship. July 15 is the final day a team can sign 2014 franchise players to long-term extensions. Otherwise, they must play under their franchise tag designation for one season, after which they would be set to become free agents. DeMarcus Cousins Pelicans Jersey .
