Winnipeg Jets 4 San Jose Sharks 3 (Jets 33-32-9, 16-17-3 road) – The win was the second for the Jets against San Jose this season, and evened the Jets record to 1-1 on the five game road trip. The game started a stretch of four games in six nights for the Jets. The Jets did not gain any ground on Phoenix, as the Coyotes beat New Jersey in a shootout to pick up five-of-six points on their three game road trip. It was the Jets 42nd one-goal game of the year; they have won 19 of them. Jets were again minus Ondrej Pavelec and Zach Bogosian due to injury, while Devin Setoguchi was not in the lineup – coachs decision. Pavelec practiced with the team Wednesday, Bogosian did not.? Mark Stuart was shaken up late in the San Jose game and only returned for one shift. Jets are in LA Saturday. (TSN 1290) Dan Boyle opened the scoring 1:57 in, only to have Andrew Ladd tie the game 36 seconds later with his 22nd of the year. Micheal Frolik and Bryan Little drew assists, Little extending his point streak to four. For Ladd it was his fifth goal in the last seven games and eighth in the last 12 games. Brent Burns on a power play at 14:27 sent the Sharks to the dressing room with a 2-1 lead. Shots were 11-10 San Jose. Blake Wheeler with his 25th of the year at 1:55 of the second tied the game. The goal was unassisted.? Wheeler then set up Dustin Byfuglien for his 20th of the year to give the Jets their first lead. It was Byfugliens eighth power play goal of the year. He has now tied his career high for goals, points and power play goals. Byfuglien has 24 points on the Jets 37 power play goals. It was his seventh goal in the last nine games. Frolik picked up his second point of the game with an assist on the goal. Shots in the second were 10-9 San Jose with the Jets up 3-2. For the second straight game the Jets surrendered two ppower play goals against, as Logan Couture pulled the Sharks even at 11:23.dddddddddddd The Sharks then got themselves in penalty trouble as while killing a penalty, Couture put a clearing attempt over the glass and for 10 seconds the Jets had a 5-on-3. The Sharks killed that off but with a one-man advantage Wheeler set up Toby Enstrom for the game winner at 16:24. Little also drew an assist, giving him 10 points in the last 10 games, and 25 points in his last 28 games. The three point night gives Wheeler 11 points in the last seven games and 31 points in the last 30 games. He has 62 points on the season, two shy of his career high. It was his third three point game of the season. Enstroms goal was his ninth of the year, one shy of his career high. Enstrom is now 2-7-9 in his last 7 games. It was his third power play goal of the year and only the Jets 12th power play road goal of the year with three so far on this road trip. Shots in the third were 12-9 Jets and 31-30 Jets on the game, as Al Montoya in his sixth straight start, picked up his 13th win of the season. Jacob Trouba again led the team in ice time, as he played 24:53. Andrew Ladd had seven shots on goal, one shy of his single-game career high. Trouba had six shots on goal. Jim Slater was 75% in the face off department, winning six-of-eight. Paul Maurice was very impressed with his top players, especially Wheeler. “He just keeps getting stronger and more powerful. He does so much for our team.” On Ladds goal that tied the game early in the first: “it was big, settled our bench down.” On the win: “Its the first time weve talked about the playoff race. Its a huge hill to climb, but we cant look at that as the reason we played hard. We have to play hard for faith and confidence in the room.” Youth NFL Jerseys China Wholesale Throwback Jerseys Disocunt Football Jerseys China Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Free Shipping Wholesale NFL Gear Cheap Jerseys ' ' '

TORONTO - Bob Murray was California dreaming about the American Hockey Leagues new Pacific Division because the Anaheim Ducks general manager will be able to wake up and drive down the coast to see his minor-league team in San Diego.Thats impossible for Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers executives, but those Canadian NHL teams will also benefit from the AHLs Westward relocation. Starting next season the Flames will have their top affiliate in Stockton, Calif., and the Oilers in Bakersfield in an attempt to give those organizations better development and access to minor-league players. As part of the all-California cluster, the Los Angeles Kings will have a team in Ontario and the Sharks in their own arena in San Jose.Us and Calgary dont have the luxury that the California teams do, but the division is going to be highly competitive and that will be really good on the development side, Oilers president Kevin Lowe said on a conference call Thursday. From our perspective, its the proximity for the other teams within our own division and the benefit that well get for our players in terms of having more practice days. Thats the biggest benefit. The Flames AHL team currently resides in Glens Falls, N.Y., which is a drive to a major airport and then a long flight from Alberta. The Oilers AHL team is in Oklahoma City.San Joses AHL team is now in Worcester, Mass., Anaheims in Norfolk, Va., and Los Angeless in Manchester, N.H.One practical implication is that these teams can now recall players from the AHL on shorter notice if injuries occur. You cant always control travel, but you would suspect in California youve got less of the travel issues as it relates to weather and those types of things, Calgary GM Brad Treliving said in a phone interview. The fact of the matter is its easier to get a body from Stockton, Calif., to Calgary than it is from the East Coast to Calgary, for a host of different reasons. These five AHL teams will play fewer games than the current 76 on the schedule, which Lowe said was part of the deal in creating the Pacific Division. Its unclear just how many there will be.Its going to drop, and the purpose of that is more emphasis on development and really to try to reduce completely the three (games) in three nights, Lowe said. Most people on the management side of hockey teams will suggest that its not great for development. This idea has been bandied about for several years. Murray said at a news conference in San Jose that he and former GM Brian Burke talked about it as soon as they got to Anaheim. The Pacific Division is the first phase of trying to geographically balance out the AHL, which historically has been centred in the East.I think it was just a matter of time, Treliving said. Its taken a long time and its not an easy undertaking. Theres a lot of moving pieces here.AHL president David Andrews called relocating five teams a complex process but one that launches a new era for the American Hockey League and for professional hockey in California. The Kings, Sharks and Ducks will get the benefit of having their teams in the same state. San Joses AHL team will even share SAP Center with the Sharks, an arrangement no other organization currently has.The Toronto Maple Leafs top affiliate, the Marlies, are in the same city, and the Philadelphia Flyers once had the Phantoms in another arena across the parking lot.Torontos a perfect example: Theres a benefit of being right there and theres a reason why they moved their team to Toronto, Treliving said. A player pulls a groin in Toronto on a morning skate, you can get a guy to drive across town.Edmonton to Bakersfield and Calgary to Stockton isnt that close, but its an improvement. Lowe estimated that the AHLs Condors will have about 20 to 25 extra practices per season than the Barons had in Oklahoma City, when the closest opponent was a six-hour bus ride away. This isnt a full-scale relocation as the Vancouver Canucks AHL team will remain in Utica, N.Y., and the Winnipeg Jets in St. Johns, N.L., for at least next season. But there are rumours of each NHL club wanting the same type of move as their Western Conference Canadian counterparts. The Jets have been linked to Thunder Bay, Ont., or even Winnipeg itself, and the Canucks potentially to Abbotsford, B.C., which used to be the home of the AHLs Heat. The Arizona Coyotes would like to join this movement, as well, and could put a team in Scottsdale.Theres no question that weve been involved in a lot of these discussions with a lot of our compadres in the West, and we hope to be a part of the Pacific Division if at all possible as early as the following season, Coyotes president and CEO Anthony LeBlanc said before his teams game against the Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre. I would anticipate well be the ones to break the mould and our franchise wont be in California but itll be in Arizona.A bigger Pacific Division is very possible for the 2016-17 season. At that point it may even include a minor-league affiliate paired with a Las Vegas expansion team. The division has a flexibility if it grows in the future to play strictly in our own division, Lowe said. PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Penguins coach Dan Bylsma wasnt thrilled with Scott Hartnell going after Kris Letang, saying off-handedly that the Philadelphia Flyers forward was "picking on a guy who had a stroke." In the third period of Saturdays game, Hartnell hit Letang, who was playing his second game back after suffering a stroke in January. Each player was given a two-minute minor for roughing as they mixed it up after the whistle. After the Flyers 4-3 overtime win, Bylsma was asked if -- even though doctors assured the team and the 26-year-old defenceman that hockey would not put him more at risk for another stroke -- he had a little pause seeing Hartnell and Letang shoving each other. "I did have that thought when that was going on there," said Bylsma. "(Letang) kind of had the play there and the puck on his skate to try to score a goal. It fell off his stick and the whistle and everything ensued after that. Yeah it does, a guy picking on a guy who had a stroke." A team spokeswoman said Bylsma was joking when he made that remark. Told of Bylsmas comment regarding Hartnell without the benefit of much context, Flyers coach Craig Berube fired back. "Then he shouldnt play," Berube said. "He shouldnt be out there playing, bottom line. Its a stupid comment." Letang, who scored 10 minutes later, said its "part of the game." "I got hit from behind, I turn around and it was him," Letang said. "I was not really shocked. but things happen in the game fast. I dont regret (it)." Hartnell declined comment through a team spokesman. Letang and Hartnell have something of a history dating to an Oct. 8, 2009 incident in which the Penguins defenceman accused the Flyers forward of biting his right ring finger. NOTE -- Flyers goaltender Steve Mason left the game with what the team called an upper-body injury, which resulted from being crashed into by two players. Penguins forward Jayson Megna pushed Flyers defenceman Andrew MacDonald into Mason at the 16:27 mark of the second period, and the goalies head snapped back and then appeared to hit the ice. Mason remained in the game until the intermission, but then Ray Emery replaced him to start the third. Berube said Mason was being taken out as a precaution and expects him to be ready for Game 1 of Philadelphias first-round playoff series against the New York Rangers on Thursday. Larry Brooks of the New York Post writes that Martin St. Louis name has been in trade speculation and that the New York Rangers have inquired about a possible deal that would bring him to The Big Apple for captain Ryan Callahan. Brooks, however, adds that Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman has no interest in dealing away the Olympic gold medallist and two-time Art Ross Trophy winner for a player considered to be a rental.dddddddddddd. The Post also says Callahans asking price of seven years at about $6.75 million per year is believed to be beyond what the Lightning would be willing to pay to keep him from hitting the open market this summer. Wanting To Stay His name has been in trade rumours, but Colorado Avalanche forward P-A Parenteau has made it clear he wants to stay in Denver. "You try not to think about it, but its not easy, especially when you have a family," Parenteau told The Denver Post. "I love it here. I want to stay here. You dont want to leave a place you love, and you dont want to leave a really good team too, which is what we have here. So, I know this is a really big chance for me now, and Im planning on making it happen." Bernie Ecclestone has described Ferrari as F1s version of The Rolling Stones while defending the premium paid to the Scuderia in recognition of their status as F1s oldest team. The F1 supremo likened the Italian marque to the music group as a report was published detailing the payments set to be made to each team for their performances last season.According to Autosport, Ferrari will receive $192m for their results in 2015 - more than any other team. Mercedes, who beat Ferrari to last years Constructors Championship, collected the second-highest amount, $171m.By contrast, Manor, who finished bottom of the standings, are understood to receive $47m.The F1s prize-giving model has been criticised in recent years for being disproportionate and last September was the subject of a wider complaint made by Force India and Sauber to the European Union. Speaking to Sky Sports F1 at the Bahrain GP, Ecclestone said he would not have any qualms if the near $1 billion prize pot was divided up differently in future - although suggested Ferrari is Formula 1 and still warranted a special status. As far as weve concerned, this year we will pay the teams collectively close on a billion dollars, Ecclestone said. SHEFFIELD, England -- Italys Vincenzo Nibali displayed his riding smarts at the Tour de France, winning Stage 2 on Sunday and taking the yellow jersey after a well-choreographed attack on rivals in the postindustrial English city known for "The Full Monty." The Astana team leader nicknamed "The Shark" for his road savvy took the final lead in a cycling dance of sorts with other title hopefuls, who took turns in front in the last stretch through a sea of fans from York to Sheffield. Nibali perhaps had more at stake: The 29-year-old rider has won the Italian Giro and Spains Vuelta, but has never captured cyclings showcase event. The victory on Sunday gave him both his first Tour stage win and yellow jersey, and sent a message that he could contend to take it home from Paris in three weeks. With less than two kilometres left, Nibali escaped a 21-man breakaway bunch at the end of the 201-kilometre course over nine heath-covered hills of Yorkshire, and held off their late surge. England is hosting the first three Tour stages this year. GERMAN LOSES YELLOW JERSEY Marcel Kittel, a powerful German sprinter who often struggles on climbs, trailed nearly 20 minutes back and lost the yellow jersey that he had captured by winning Stage 1. While the Italian won the fight to the line, under the shadow of a black Sheffield Forgemasters tower, defending champion Chris Froome of Britain and two-time winner Alberto Contador of Spain are focusing more on the overall race -- which ends July 27 on Paris Champs-Elysees. Overall, Nibali leads 20 other riders by two seconds, including Froome in fifth place and Contador in eighth. A six-man breakaway bunch tried its chances early, but got swallowed up by the pack with less than 40 kilometres left. Then, the big race stars moved to the front, splitting the pack. Contador, Froome, and Americans Andrew Talansky and Tejay van Garderen all spent time at the front. At times, they mustered bursts of speed or zipped across with width of the road in tactical manoeuvrs. "In the finale, a lot of contenders were making moves: Nibali ended up taking two seconds on us," Froome said. "Its not a big margin. For me, it was about staying out of trouble to stay at the front, and avoiding any major issues or splits. "Im tired, but I hope everyones tired after a day like today." TIME TO WORK, ASTANA Dave Brailsford, boss of Froomes Team Sky, said the leaders actually "were all hesitant, because nobody wanted the jersey." In the cycling playbook, the yellow shirt brings both glory and responsibility. Brailsford said: "Astana will have to now defend it, which is pretty good for anybody else. "Perfect. Theyve got to work." Nibali didnt dare claim he might keep it all the way to Paris, saying "the Tour de France doesnt stop here: We have three weeks to go, and very tough and tricky stages lie ahead." Mondays stage should be a far less grueling ride: Riders cover 155 kilometres from Cambridge to London, where the pack will finish on the Mall not far from Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. CROWDS FOR A CLASSIC STAGE The course Sunday resembled that of historic one-day races known as "classics," which often feature hilly terrain. Michael Rodgers, an Australian on Contadors Tinkoff-Saxo Bank team, called it "a bit of a special stage, like the Amstel Gold Race, but with 20 times the people." New roads for cyclings greatest race also mean new audiences, some of whom are so enthusiastic and eager for a selfie with the pack that they might not realize the hazards of getting too close to the riders as they go by. Untold thousands turned out just hours after one of the biggest British stars in the race, Mark Cavendish, dropped out because of pain from a separated right shoulder sustained in a crash Saturday. "There are thousands and thousands of people. Its great but its also dangerous," Contador said. Race officials say millions of fans have flooded the course route in just the first two stages. While Yorkshire doesnt have ascents on a par with the Alps or Pyrenees in France, riders faced nine low- to mid-grade climbs. The hardest was the Holme Moss pass. The steepest was also the shortest: The 800-meter Jenkin Road pass had an average gradient of 10.8 per cent. Several riders crashed. Simon Gerrans, who went down with Cavendish in Saturdays stage, also spilled -- as did van Garderen and Joachim Rodriguez, the third-place finisher in the 2013 Tour. All recovered to finish the stage. On the up-and-down, picturesque course, the 197-rider peloton scaled a narrow, cobblestone hill in Haworth, where the Bronte sisters -- the famed 19th-century novelists -- lived when their father was parson in the town. NEW YORK -- With the World Series over, Alex Rodriguez resumed his criticism of Major League Baseball and Commissioner Bud Selig for its investigation that led to a 211-game suspension that the New York Yankees third baseman is trying to overturn. In addition to a grievance filed by the players union, Rodriguez filed a lawsuit against Selig and MLB that accused them of engaging in a "witch hunt." "I am deeply troubled by my teams investigative findings with respect to MLBs conduct," Rodriguez said in a statement Thursday. "How can the gross, ongoing misconduct of the MLB investigations division not be relevant to my suspension, when my suspension supposedly results directly from that divisions work?" MLB suspended Rodriguez on Aug. 5 for violations of its drug agreement and labour contract, but he was allowed to keep playing pending a determination of the grievance. Arbitrator Fredric Horowitz has heard eight days of hearings, and the next session is Nov. 18. Speaking last weekend at the World Series, Selig praised MLBs investigative team, saying "Im very comfortable with what they did and how they did it." "Ive been in baseball now for 50 years," he said. "I thought Id seen everything, but I hadnt." Rodriguez waited to respond until after the World Series had ended. "It is sad that commissioner Selig once again is turning a blind eye, knowing that crimes are being committed under his regime," the three-time AL MVP said. "I have 100 per cent faith in my legal team. To be sure, this fight is necessary to protect me, but it also serves the interests of the next 18-year-old coming into the league, to be sure he doesnt step into the house of horrors that I am being forced to walk through." Rodriguez and MLB have publicly assailed each other for months. MLB accused Rodriguez of "possession of numerous forms of prohibited performance-enhancing substances, including testosterone and human growth hormone, over the course of multiple years." "This latest, sad chapter in Mr. Rodriguezs tarnished career is yet another example of this player trying to avoid taking responsibility for his poor choices. Given the disappointing acts tthat Mr.dddddddddddd Rodriguez has repeatedly made throughout his career, his expressed concern for young people rings very hollow," MLB chief operating officer Rob Manfred said in a statement. "Mr. Rodriguezs use of PEDs was longer and more pervasive than any other player, and when this process is complete, the facts will prove that it is Mr. Rodriguez and his representatives who have engaged in ongoing, gross misconduct." One of Rodriguezs lawyers, Joseph Tacopina, responded by calling for Manfred to be removed from the three-person panel, chaired by Horowitz, hearing the sluggers appeal. "Alex did not use PEDs and Rob Manfred knows it. The fact that Manfred has committed so zealously to prosecuting Alex for offences he knows he did not commit is why he persistently attacks Alexs character with baseless, cowardly allegations," Tacopina said in a statement. "With todays statements, Manfred clearly has hit a new level of desperation. He knows what his sworn testimony was on the subject of his and Commissioner Seligs approach to PEDs being dealt to children, and MLBs willingness to turn a blind eye to such criminal misconduct in support of its quest to get Alex. He knows he cannot run from his testimony forever. It will follow him the rest of his career -- however long that may be -- and he knows it is indefensible. Once it inevitably becomes public through other legal proceedings, he will have to answer for that. "Rob Manfred has gone so far over the line with his latest slanderous attack against Alex (which presumably was approved by Commissioner Selig) that we demand the other two arbitration panel members immediately remove Manfred from the panel hearing Alexs appeal. Indeed, we do not see how he can continue to hold any position of responsibility within Major League Baseball. But we will leave that to the conscience and judgment of the owners within the league." Major League Baseball, of course, responded with a statement that began: "Mr. Tacopinas latest rant is so delusional it doesnt warrant a response." "The fact that Mr. Tacopina has now asked for two of the three panel members to be recused tells you everything you need to know." Mark Selby won a marathon semi-final against Marco Fu to set up a World Snooker Championship final against Ding Junhui. Selby overcame Fu with a 17-15 victory which included a frame which set the record for the longest in the tournament, at 76 minutes and 11 seconds.Selby and Fu took an hour over the closing frame of the match too, with several long safety battles, before it went the way of Leicester City fan Selby, who will be hoping for a double title celebration this Bank Holiday weekend. Chinese star Ding earlier booked his place in the Crucible final when he fired his seventh century of the semi-final, a classy 123 to complete a 17-11 victory over Scottish veteran Alan McManus. Before Dings masterclass, the record in Sheffield stood at six centuries in a match, achieved by Mark Selby and Ronnie OSullivan, but he set a new mark as he became Asias first World Championship finalist. His earlier tons in the match were 100, 131, 100, 128, 138 and 113, and in a startling run of scoring he also fired breaks of 84, 62, 90, 97, 80 and 60 as well as narrowly missing out on a maximum 147 break. The 29-year-old has been tipped to dominate snooker since his teenage years. Ding rattled in seven centuries during his victory over McManus He won the UK Championship at the age of 18 and in 2013/14 matched Stephen Hendrys record of five ranking titles in a season, becoming world No 1 in December 2014.A drastic dip in fortunes saw him recently slide outside the top 16, meaning he had to go through qualifying for this tournament. But sweeping through three preliminaries bolstered his confidence for an assault on the event in which he has previously underachieved, providing what has proven to be the ideal preparation.I feel peaceful at the moment, just like normal. I want to be excited but my heart tells me its like normal, said Ding after beating McManus. Alan McManus enjoyed a superb run at the Crucible The tournament hasnt finished yet so I want to stay focused. In the first few years of playing snooker I didnt really know about the World Championship because they didnt show this tournament much on TV in China. The first dream was to win any tournament, then after turning professional in 2003 I wanted to win the World Championship title.Theres more and more supporters in China, its crazy like that. Gonzalo Higuain scored twice as Napoli came from behind to beat AC Milan 3-1 and reinforce its bid for a Champions League place after Fiorentinas earlier victory over Atalanta in Serie A on Saturday. Third-place Napoli remained three points ahead of Fiorentina, which won 2-0. "We played with high intensity and skill, at a very high level," Napoli coach Rafa Benitez said. "Higuain is making the difference but his teammates helped him a lot. "It happens that you make mistakes in some matches but today we saw a team that is growing." Adel Taarabt took less than eight minutes of his Serie A debut to fire Milan in front, racing half the length of the pitch before curling a wonderful finish into the bottom right corner. Gokhan Inler levelled three minutes later with a deflected effort into the top right corner. Higuain had an effort ruled marginally offside and Cristian Maggio hit the post as Napoli threatened to take the lead on several occasions. The home side finally made the most of its opportunities 11 minutes after halftime when Higuain, who had been threatening all night, headed home a delightful cross from Inler. The Argentine doubled his tally eight minutes from time to take his season tally to 16 in all competitions. Shortly beforehand, Mario Balotelli broke down in tears on the bench after being substituted off following a below-par performance from the Italy striker. "Everyone expresses emotions in that way," Milan coach Clarence Seedorf said. "Its not the first time its happened to a player. It was a particular moment for him. Its happened to me before, too." It was Seedorfs first league defeat of his fledgling managerial career. Also, Udinese beat Chievo Verona 3-0 in a relegation battle. Josip Ilicic broke the deadlock in Florence in the 16th minute when he curled a superb free kick into the near top right corner from 25 metres. Atalantas hopes of getting anything from the match all but evaporated when it was reduced to 10 men nine minutes from time following Luca Cigarinis second booking. Substitute Rafal Wolski sealed the match in the 86th, racing almost half the length of the pitch and holding off defenders before firing across into the bottom left corner for his first Serie A goal. Udinese had lost four of its past five Serie A matches, while Chievo was without a win in its past seven, scoring only four goals during that period. Chievo almost took the lead on the half hour when Cyril Thereaus back-heeled effort crashed off the base of the upright. Udinese went in front in the 56th when Antonio Di Natale brought down Dusan Bastas pass and volleyed across into the bottom left corner for his third goal in as many matches. Substitute Bruno Fernandes tapped home Roberto Pereyras cross in the 74th and Emmanuel Badu added a third shortly before fulltime. Udinese moved provisionally nine points clear of the relegation zone and eight points ahead of Chievo. DeRozan was above him, speaking with urgency. It was a moment that said volumes about this young Raptors squad: their unexpected record-breaking season and their thrilling run through the playoffs, and the bonds they built along the way. "Thats my man," Lowry said of DeRozan. "He said, If anybody is taking that shot, Im living and dying with you taking that shot, or trying to attempt to get that shot off. It was a great brotherly moment." Lowry, who led the Raptors with 28 points Sunday, had just been blocked on a shot at the buzzer, giving the Brooklyn Nets a 104-103 Game 7 victory and ending the Raptors first playoff run in six seasons. "The play was to get me the ball, but they did a good job of trapping me, and I didnt get that shot off that I wanted to get off," said Lowry. Amir Johnson had a playoff-high 20 points plus 10 rebounds before fouling out of the game with 7:53 to play. DeRozan added 18 points for the Raptors, who were hoping to see the second round of the playoffs for just the second time in the franchises 19-year history. Patrick Patterson finished with 16 points, while Terrence Ross had 11. "Im proud of our guys," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said afterward. "Nobody gave them a snowballs chance in you-know-where to be here. Each game (in the series), a young player grew and learned something. "This group has a lot of stuff in front of them, a lot of basketball in front of them. This organizations in a great spot. Theyre going to be good." Still, it was a heartbreaking ending to a season that began with low expectations but ended with such high hopes, the remarkable turnaround coming after the seven-player trade in December that sent Rudy Gay to Sacramento. The Raptors went on to record a franchise-high 48 wins, claim the Atlantic Division title and earn the No. 3 seed in the East. "Its definitely tough to take this loss, but we had a helluva fight, man," said DeRozan, holding his infant daughter Diar, clad in a tiny No. 10 jersey with a big red bow in her hair. "Nobody picked us to make it this far, to win these many games." A one-point game was a fitting ending to a season-long battle between these two teams. The total scores were identical -- 1070-1070 -- over the 10 games played. Toronto, desperate to keep its season going, played like it was feeling the pressure for much of the afternoon, trailing by as much as 12 points in the third quarter in front of an Air Canada Centre crowd that was hungry for a playoff series win. They trailed 81-73 going into the fourth, but a Toronto team that has been so strong down the stretch all season long pulled within five on a basket by Lowry with 7:20 to play. With the fans on their feet for the final couple of minutes left, the Raptors kept their foot on the pedal and it was a three-point game with 22 seconds left. Lowry drove to the hoop for a basket to cut the deficit to a point, but Shaun Livingston made two free throws to put Brooklyn back up by three with 13 seconds to play. Ross answered with a basket, and then stole the ball off Livingston with six seconds left. Lowry drove to the rim on the Raptors final possession, but three Nets players clogged the lane, and it was game over. "I just told him, Dont worry about it," said DeRozan, who ran to Lowry after buzzer. "I can sleep at night knowing he took that shot. I can live with that. Dont be down on yourself, thats what I was telling him. I told him without him we wouldnt even be in that situation." The capacity crowd of 20,457 chanted "Lets go Raptors!" as the dejected players left the court. Joe Johnson scored 26 points to lead the Nets, who will face the two-time defending champion Heat beginning Tuesday in Miami. Marcus Thornton finished with 17. Deron Williams had 13 points, Kevin Garnett had 12 and Paul Pierce 10. "It feels so much better when you do it on the road because you know you earned it," said Pierce, who was acquired along withh Garnett in the off-season in the Nets plan to win an NBA title.dddddddddddd "Everybody is against you. I cant say some of the things they were calling me out there. You were against not only 15,000 in the building, you were against the 15,000 outside. Nobody is with you." Lowry lingered long at his locker after the game. He arrived at the press conference still dressed in her jersey, his two-year-old son Karter at his side. Asked what was going through his mind he said: "Whats not? Its a lot of things that could have been done differently, but this season has been a great season. Ive had the best core group of teammates that Ive ever had in my life, in my career. . . its just a lot. "Mad, frustrated. But understanding that this is only a stepping stone for my growth." The Air Canada Centre and its fans resembled a massive Maple Leaf -- fans in the end sections wore red "We The North" shirts, while fans in the middle sections wore white. Drake, former Raptor Charles Oakley, and Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf and his wife Elisha Cuthbert sat courtside. Coach Casey was forced to take the subway to the game. He got stuck in traffic due to road closures for the Toronto Marathon, and did a U-turn and headed for the subway. Pictures of Casey -- dressed in a black Canada Goose bomber jacket with black Raptors T-shirt -- surfaced on Twitter soon after. Casey, whose contract expires after this season, said his players will draw inspiration from the series, saying theyll be in the gym on warm summer nights thinking about how close they came. "We would have loved to have been there. We put ourselves in a position, one shot, one free throw, one offensive rebound here or there. That close," Casey said, holding up two fingers. "Thats what I told the team. We were right there." Lowry becomes a free agent on July 1, but when asked about his future, he said his mind was still on the series and its ending. DeRozan said he hasnt talked to Lowry about his future. "I dont need to say nothing to him," DeRozan said. "Im not worried about that, the relationship Kyle and I have, he knows. I dont have to say much. Why would he leave? Thats my opinion, thats how I look at it." Raptors versus Nets made for a spirited first-round series since before the first game even tipped off, beginning when the Nets sat their starters at the end of the regular season in order to drop to sixth in the East to face the Raptors -- whom they saw as easier prey than Chicago. Toronto general manager Masai Ujiri fired a shot back, dropping his famous F-bomb about Brooklyn when addressing the Maple Leaf Square crowd prior to Game 1. Sunday afternoon, some 10,000 fans packed the sunny Maple Leaf Square and spilled into roads leading into it to watch the game on the giant screen outside the ACC. Ujiri addressed the fans once again. This time he would only say: "You know how I feel." Tim Leiweke, the president of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, also addressed the crowd. "The other night the whole team, they put you in the locker-room before the game so we could understand what were playing for," Leiweke told the fans. "Tonight, today, we play for you. God bless you." Prime Minister Stephen Harper posted on Twitter: "Great effort (at)Raptors! Came up short but were all looking forward to next season. .WeTheNorth .NothernUprising .RTZ" Vince Carter led the Raptors past the New York Knicks and into the second round of the playoffs in 2001, where they lost the Philadelphia 4-3. Toronto missed its first three shots but then calmed down and a driving Greivis Vasquez jumper with two minutes to go in the first quarter gave the Raptors a six-point lead. They went into the second up 28-26. The Raptors allowed the Nets to shoot 67 per cent in the second, and Brooklyn went up by 10 on long pullup jumper by Livingston with 29 seconds left. The Nets led 61-53 at halftime. Toronto pulled to within six points on a driving layup by Lowry with 6:10 left in the third, but couldnt build any momentum, and the Nets were back up by 12 less than three minutes later. The Nets took an eight-point lead into the fourth. HOUSTON TEXANS Reason for pessimism: You wonder if they will always be a playoff team and never a championship team. They do have individual great players in J.J. Watt, Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, and Brian Cushing, but something hard to identify is still missing. An indicator of that was late in the year when Houston had the division lead with a 12-2 record but failed to clinch it early by losing to Minnesota and Indianapolis. At quarterback its hard to criticize Matt Schaub. He made the Pro Bowl last year passing for 4,008 yards, and 22 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. Yet, in his head-to-head competition with the best quarterbacks it isnt always Schaub that wins the battle. Reason for optimism: They have too many good players not to come together and have a great year. Wade Philips defence didnt dominate in 2012 as it did in 2011 but that will change this year for the better. Arian Foster is as good as any NFL running back with a top left tackle in Duane Brown. If the Texans can find a compliment to Andre Johnson the offence will take another step forward. Is it DeAndre Hopkins, the teams first-round draft pick? The Texans are a team that needs little to improve upon. Watt, Cushing, and hopefully a healthy Ed Reed down the middle is perhaps the best combo in the league. They just need all 22 starters to play 16 games. Reality: This is a playoff team that if the ball bounces the right way can be a championship team. The two key dates are November 3rd and December 16th; home and away against the Indianapolis Colts. A repeat of last years +22 take away/giveaway is also a top priority. Prediction: First in AFC South. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS Reason for pessimism: Yes, the Colts had a year to remember. From 2-14 to 11-5, last years team was special. But this year it starts all over again. When you look at the Colts wins from last year it was remarkable how many were close scores that could have gone either way. Against Minnesota, they won by three points. Green Bay, same thing. They beat Cleveland by 4 and Tennessee by six in overtime. They got by Miami by three, Detroit by 2 and Tennessee again, this time by four. That is seven games that were dependent on Andrew Luck playing either come from behind football to win or "kill the clock" football to preserve the win. Remarkable! It is unrealistic however to think it can happen again. Also Luck took an immense amount of punishment last year: 41 quarterbacks sacks and an incalculable number of hits. That cant happen again this year or a 16-game experience from the sophomore QB is unrealistic. Reason for optimism: Luck threw 627 passes in his rookie year. He saw every possible coverage and combination of coverages there are in pro football. The organization threw him in and said you will be tested, and he passed. All the Colts have to do is protect Luck better by finding better players. Gosder Cherilus will be the new right tackle and the Colts third and fourth picks were interior lineman. Another 41 sack total for this year is unlikely. Also, in what can be classified as a logical yet brilliant move, the teams new offensive coordinator is Pep Hamilton, who coached Luck at Stanford. Excellent move! Former OC Bruce Arians was remarkable and will probably do remarkable things in Arizona, but the Colts can overcome that with head coach Chuck Pagano back fulltime. The Colts know trying to duplicate what they did last year will be difficult, but their schedule is pretty good and so is their quarterback. Reality: This year will be harder than last with two games against Houston and San Francisco right away, then Denver in late October and Cincinnati in early December. But the rest of the schedule has very winnable games. Prediction: 2nd in the AFC South. TENNESSEE TITANS Reason for pessimism: Nobody gave up more points than the Tennessee Titans did last year. They allowed 30 or more points eight times and allowed Chicago to score 51 on them and Green Bay 55. Realistically, it is going to take more than one football season to change that. At quarterback, Jake Locker will have to make a quantum leap forward to offset the logical point total opposition teams may score. Locker can make the spectacular play from time to time, but his completion percentage has been just 56 and 51 his first two years. As for talented but troubled receiver Kenny Britt it is now or never time to turn around his career. Reason for optimism: The Titans made some major moves in free agency, signing RB Shone Green, OG Andy Levitre, TE Delanie Walker, and a good strong safety in Bernard Pollard. Three of the four will start and the fourth, Green, will have a significant role filling in for Chris Johnson. Locker is the teams No. 1 guy and he knows it. Logic says he takes over the job and improves. With an improved offensive line and Johnson carrying the rock, it may be easier to improve than anticipated. Last year Johnson had touchdown runs of 80, 83, and 94 yards. Reality: With so many points allowed last year, how fast can the starting 12 on defence improve even with the addition of Pollard at safety? When you look at the starting defensive roster there are very few names that you recognize as impact players. Too think the Titans will go from most points allowed to top 10 in fewest is unrealistic. Prediction: Third in AFC South. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS Reason for pessimism: When you look over the last five years of Jaguars football it has been difficult to accept. Win totals of five, seven, eight, five, and only two last year. And now in 2013 a new head coach, new offensive coordinator, and new defensive coordinator . They have not been to the playoffs since 2007 and since 1999 the Jaguars have only been to the playoffs three times. And what is even more significant is that there best player, RB Maurice Jones-Drew, does not seem satisfied playing in Jacksonville. Whether it is an injury issue or a contract issue, Jones -Drew is the reason the Jaguars can or cannot run the ball. I understand why Jacksonville drafted Luke Joeckel at tackle second overall. He was very consistent and played good competition at Texas A&M. But they need a quarterback. Now there are some good ones to come out in the 2O14 draft and perhaps getting one then is their plan. Still, Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne are in make or break years. If either does not improve in a big way, the Jaguars will have another difficult season. When you consider this team plays four of their first six games on the road and one in London, England against San Francisco in Week 8, they could hit "re-building mentality” by November. Reason for optimism: Gus Bradley, the new head coach for Jacksonville, was a main reason for the Seattle Seahawks defensive success last year. He know the type of player he needs and how to use him. It is more of duplication than re-creation for Jacksonville to be special without the ball. And they already have a solid middle linebacker in Paul Posluszny, so Step One is accomplished. At wide receiver, you would have to think first-round pick Justin Blackmon knows this is it for him. Hes a great player that cant seem to stay out of trouble . There is another Blackmon out there if the first one does not live up to expectations and new General Manager David Caldwell will find him. The Jaguars do have players and pieces to develop but it will take time. Reality: Another last place finish in the AFC South. The team is unknown at quarterback, offensive line, and pass rush. Last year Jacksonville had six games of 10 points or less. Theres a long way to go. Prediction: Fourth in the AFC South. Curt Schilling Diamondbacks Jersey . Al Harrington, another former Knicks forward, scored 22 of his 24 points after halftime for the Nuggets, allowing them to withstand Anthonys attempt to rally the Knicks after his poor shooting had them behind until the final minutes of regulation. Subban following the Canadiens Game 7 win over the Bruins in the second round, after the Montreal defenceman planted a huge kiss on McGuires forehead as he exclaimed, "Yeah baby!" before heading off to celebrate with his teammates in their dressing room. "I didnt see that coming at all," McGuire told TSN.ca recently. But what McGuire has always seen coming was the performance and level of play Subban showed in the Canadiens run through to Game 6 of the 2014 Eastern Conference Final. Subban finished the playoffs with 14 points in 17 games, with seven of those points coming in that series win over the Bruins. He played a major role in helping Montreal upset the Presidents Trophy winners and helped lead his team to within two wins of their first Stanley Cup Final berth in 21 years. As McGuire pointed out, it wasnt just Subbans skill - that helped him win the 2013 Norris Trophy - that allowed him to take a big step forward in the playoffs, but also the enthusiasm he showed in that interview and how he applies that both on and off the ice. "I remember when P.K. went to his first World Junior Championship and talking to him before he flew over to Pardubice," McGuire said. "He was beaming and just so excited to go over there and to be part of the experience. Obviously then he was such a raw talent and hes worked hard to get to where he is now. But that excitement and enthusiasm for the game has never faded. Its still there now and thats a main reason for what youre seeing now. Thats why hes a leader. He loves the game; he plays it the right way and youre seeing that more and more now. Can he improve? Yes and hell tell you that. But what youre seeing now is the potential anyone who knew him well saw." While winning the Norris Trophy last season impressed his teammates, that passion for the game and what he did to help the Canadiens go deep into the playoffs was equally if not more impressive. "Hes definitely maturing and hes showing why he won the Norris Trophy," said teammate Carey Price on Saturday. "He had an excellent postseason. For us to win the Cup, were going to need him to play that way. Hes a fun-loving guy; hes fun to hang out with and he makes it enjoyable to come to the rink every day. Hes a really good buddy of mine obviously and I was happy to see him succeed in the playoffs and prove a lot of doubters wrong." Canadiens defenceman Mike Weaver was acquired at the trade deadline and in his short time as Subbans teammate, realized how infectious the 25-year-olds love of the game was having an effect on him..dddddddddddd "I think a lot of the time the enjoyment of the game is sometimes forgotten," said Weaver, who is an unrestricted free agent in July. "You almost gotta get back to the time when you had fun playing hockey and instead of it being a job, its more of a privilege. Playing with him and even in playing in Montreal, I started to enjoy the game again." When told of Weavers comments, a flattered Subban told the media that enjoying the game and embracing the moment has always been an important part of his approach. "I enjoy every moment," Subban said on Saturday. "Through the ups and downs you have to because as much as careers are long, theyre short too. You just dont know what can happen so you have to enjoy your time when youre out there. The playoffs are a fun time to play and I obviously enjoy playing that time of year." Subban, who is a restricted free agent again this July (this time with arbitration rights), will continue to be a hot topic as the offseason gets under way. But before he headed off for what will be his shortest summer yet as an NHLer, he made it clear he wants to continue to enjoy the playoff moments with the Canadiens and help them build towards and achieve their ultimate goal of winning their 25th Stanley Cup. "Theres something about that," Subban explained. "Theres something about building a team and being part of a special group that youve seen grow from the bottom up and add blocks along the way. Theres something special about winning with a team like that. I believe we have an opportunity to do that here. I look at the Montreal Canadiens winning the Cup in 93 and only being to the conference finals two times since then, and Ive been to them both times. A lot of guys go their whole career and never make it to a conference final and get to within two wins of a Stanley Cup Final, so I understand the importance of taking advantage of those moments. Its unfortunate we didnt get that done this year, but I know that the future is bright and theres going to be plenty of opportunities for us to redeem ourselves and take that next step." BARCELONA, Spain - A Spanish judge agreed on Wednesday to hear a lawsuit brought by a Barcelona club member against president Sandro Rosell regarding the cost of the transfer for Brazil striker Neymar. After a preliminary examination of the contracts involved in Neymars signing, judge Pablo Ruz wrote in a ruling there is "sufficient elements for the admission of the lawsuit" brought by club member Jordi Cases. On Monday, Rosell insisted the total cost of 57 million euros (then $74 million) to bring Neymar from Brazilian club Santos announced at the players presentation last June was correct. Cases alleges the amount paid by the Spanish champions was higher and that Rosell misappropriated funds by hiding the real cost to the club behind false contracts, a criminal offence punishable by up to six years of prison. Cases told El Pais newspaper on Monday "the lawsuit is against Rosell, not against Barca." "We dont think that somebody kept the money," Cases said. "We only want to know how they account for the expenditures, because it isnt clear." Barcelona is owned by its more than 160,000 members, who elect a president and governing board. Barcelona made 482.6 million euros ($654 million) in revenue last season, second only to fierce rival Real Madrid, according to accountancy firm Deloitte. Rosell and other members of his board have repeatedly said the contracts involved in Neymars transfer included confidentiality clauses that dont allow them to reveal the exact amount of the 57 million euros received by Santos, and the three companies, DIS, TEISA and N&N, who owned shares of Neymars rights. To proceed with the suit, Ruz asked that FIFA and the Brazilian football federation present documentation related to the Neymar transfer; Neymar da Silva Santos Junior provide the contract he signed with the company N&N, run by his father Neymar Silva Santos, that ceded it his "future economic rights"; and for Barcelona to hand over contracts for the payment of 7.9 million euros for the rights to three Santos "youth players" and the contracts for the payment of 9 million euros to play two friendlies with Santos. Rosell said Monday he would be willing to answer any questions Ruz might have regarding the deal. "We respect all the contracts we sign," Rosell said. "Thats why I would be delighted for the judge to summon me for questioning so I can explain all the questions related to the contract." Rosell, at least for now, will not have to appear before the judge in Madrid because Ruz said there was no "urgency or need" for him to be summoned. Ruz is also presiding over a high-profile corruption case that has rocked Spains ruling party regarding an alleged slush fund run by former Popular Party treasurer Luis Barcenas. The 21-year-old Neymar, who led Santos on its greatest run since Pele stopped playing in the 1970s, has scored 11 goals since joining Barcelona. He is sidelined with a right ankle injury for two-to-three weeks. This is the second major ongoing legal dispute involving Barcelona players. A court near Barcelona questioned Lionel Messi and his father Jorge in September after a Spanish state prosecutor filed a complaint that the Argentina star owed 4 million euros in back taxes. Tomas Tatar Jersey . Under the deal, the Vikings will donate an undisclosed sum of money to five gay rights-related charities over the next five years. Kluwe said he wont receive any money as part of the settlement. "This will help a lot of people that really do need that help," Kluwe said. Bob Probert Jersey . It was a loss. But it was also a learning experience. Deron Williams and Joe Johnson had 24 points each to lift Brooklyn to a 94-87 win over the Raptors, making their first playoff appearance since 08. "I thought we played a little bit as expected as it is our first playoff game," Toronto coach Dwane Casey said. http://www.hockeyredwingsauthentic.com/a...d-wings-jersey/. Starting from pole, the 26-year-old Vettel turned in a trademark clinical performance to win the Indian Grand Prix on Sunday and join F1 greats Juan Manuel Fangio and Michael Schumacher as just the third driver to win four consecutive championships. Nicklas Lidstrom Jersey . - Carter Verhaeghe scored the winner with 41 seconds to go as the Niagara IceDogs edged the North Bay Battalion 3-2 to even their first-round series at a game apiece in Ontario Hockey League playoff action on Sunday. Ted Lindsay Jersey . It has been eleven years, eight months, and 261 days since I played my last CFL game.OTTAWA - A player watching from the press box never wants a teammate to struggle, but its often the only way back in the lineup.Just ask Chris Phillips. The veteran defenceman will suit up on Tuesday when his Ottawa Senators visit the New York Rangers after sitting out the last two games as a healthy scratch.Phillips replaces Patrick Wiercioch, who struggled in the Senators 3-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. The 36-year-old Phillips has been a healthy scratch seven times this season, all since Dave Cameron replaced Paul MacLean as head coach. To be brutally honest its a really hard position, Phillips said Monday of sitting out. You want to see the team win and we want to push to get in the playoffs, (but) the reality is if we dont win theres probably a better chance that I might get in the lineup the next game. Obviously Im not hoping for that, but in the back of your mind you think: Well maybe I might be in next game if thats how it turns out.Its kind of a weird feeling. With seven healthy defencemen the reality is someone always has to be the odd man, out and soon enough it will be two as Mark Borowiecki continues to rehab his leg injury. Its difficult, said Phillips. Its not a position that anybody wants to be in. If its me in the lineup then its one of the other guys thats out and thats not where they want to be. I guess in some ways thats what you want is for us to be pushing each other and we need to be on top of our game to stay in the lineup.Phillips is in the first of a two-year contract and has a limited no-trade clause. While no discussions have taken place, the veteran knows management could approach him at some time after the all-star break about the possibility of a move.Tuesdays game will also feature the return of rugged forward Chris Neil, who has missed the last 16 games with a knee injury.I worked hard to get back, said Neil. I feel strong and ready to go.Neil said its been difficult to be sidelined, but added hes anxious to get back in the lineup and contribute. With just two games remaining before the all-star break the Senators would love to finish on a high and start to string some wins together. Heading into Mondays action the Senators sat 10 poinnts out of a playoff spot, but remain optimistic they can close the gap.ddddddddddddThe Senators havent had a winning streak of more than two games this season, but Cameron said the team has to start burying its scoring chances.Thats probably the one biggest thing if you want to break it down, he said. We keep talking about the focus everyday of practice and games and all you can do is work on the things that give you the best chance to win.Senators general manager Bryan Murray spoke on local radio Monday morning and said he hasnt given up on trying to find a top-six forward.Murray said the ideal candidate would be a youngish player with term remaining on his contract or someone with interest to re-sign.It appears the Senators are also prepared to make a decision on the future of forward Colin Greening.Murray was seen talking to Greening at the end of Mondays practice and said that its likely the 28-year-old will end up on waivers.I just told him eventually here if we dont get something done hes got to play hockey and you cant play hockey as a 23rd or 24th guy on the roster so I may have to put him on waivers at some point in time, Murray told TSN 1200. In the meantime were going to look and see if theres some way of accommodating him and giving him a chance of continuing his career. He just doesnt fit with us right now.Murray added he has given Greenings agent permission to speak to other teams as well. The Ottawa GM also put to rest any rumours about the Senators trading Craig Anderson, who will get the start Tuesday, at the deadline. Why would I do that at this point? said Murray. We dont have a third goaltender. Robin is close to ready, but hes got to play more games. If you dont have goaltending in this league you dont have anything. We know that ... its unlikely that Craig Anderson is going anywhere but the net in Ottawa.Note: Veteran NHL forward Todd Bertuzzi, who was on a professional tryout with the Binghamton Senators, has returned home to have his knee examined after it was injured during a game. Senators assistant general manager Pierre Dorion said Bertuzzi was a great asset to the young players in Binghamton and the door remains open for him to return. PITTSBURGH -- The National League MVP doesnt play favourites when it comes to hot streaks. Neither do the Pittsburgh Pirates, who rode Andrew McCutchen to another win Wednesday. McCutchen homered and reached base four times and the Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs 4-2 at rainy PNC Park on Wednesday night. McCutchen is batting .462 during a seven-game hitting streak and has 12 extra-base hits during 10 June games. "I dont compare (career-best stretches)," McCutchen said. "Im not big on that. Im just seeing the ball hitting the ball. Im in a spurt where Im feeling really good right now." So are the Pirates, who have taken two of the first three games of the series with their NL Central rivals. Pittsburghs Brandon Cumpton (2-2) pitched five effective innings, and the offence pounded Cubs starter Jason Hammel (6-4) for 11 hits in five innings, snapping his streaks of 14 1-3 innings without allowing a run and 52 innings without allowing a homer when McCutchen hit his 10th in the first. McCutchen also had a single and walked twice. "Hes hot," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "When he gets his pitch, hes not missing." Luis Valbuena likewise continued his recent strong hitting with three hits for last-place Chicago, which has lost three of four after a season-best five-game winning streak. The games first pitch was delayed 1 hour, 38 minutes because of a severe thunderstorm that began sweeping through downtown Pittsburgh about an hour before the scheduled start time. Rain fell again during the sixth inning. McCutchens fly ball landed more than a row into the left-field seats -- but it almost became an extra-long out when leftfielder Chris Coghlan leaped into the stands. He landed in the seats and said he had a read on the ball but that a fan outmanoeuvred him for it. "Best non-catch effort Ive ever seen," Cubs manager Rick Renteria said. "I would have went there and shook his hand myself if he caught that ball," McCutchen said. The Pirates Gregory Polanco went 1 for 5 with an RBI groundout a day after his much-hyped major league debut Tuesday. Making his sixth start of the season and fourth since being given a regular rotation spot, Cumpton allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts. On his final pitch, he struck out Nate Schierholtz swinging with the bases loaded. "Its something I need to work on, getting through the fifth and sixth innings," Cumpton said. "It was a good experience, a real confidence booster for me." Justin Wilson, Tony Watson, Mark Melancon and Jason Grilli followed with a hitless inning each. Grilli earned his 10th save of the season during what was his 400th career appearance. Hammel had won two previous starts against the Pirates this season and entered Wednesday with the second-best WHIP in the majors (0.88). He allowed 14 baserunners Wednesday. "It was rough," Hammel said with a laugh. "A lot of hits given up. Up in the zone. Obviously could have been better strikes thrown, but I battled through. It could have been a lot worse - 11 hits through five innings? Its amazing they only put up four." Hammel was spared a worse line by some poor baserunning by Pittsburgh, which hit into two peculiar double plays and had another runner thrown out at third during the seventh inning after Hammel was out of the game. The Pirates Starling Marte had two hits - including an RBI single in the fifth inning - but also was thrown out on the basepaths for the third time in two games when he was picked off third following a Travis Snider pop-up behind home plate in the fifth. The Cubs briefly tied the game at 2 in the second when John Bakers single drove in Valbuena and Nate Schierholtz scored on a groundout. Notes: Before the game, the Pirates places LHP Francisco Liriano on the disabled list because of a strained left oblique that caused him to leave his start Tuesday in the fourth inning. . The Cubs on Wednesday announced they signed their first-round draft pick, Indiana University catcher/outfielder Kyle Schwarber. Schwarber, the No. 4 overall selection, will report to the organizations short-season Class A affiliate in Boise, Idaho. . Pirates 2B Josh Harrison was removed from the game for a pinch hitter during the third inning because of discomfort in his left ankle. . A fireworks display - from the nearby annual Pittsburgh arts festival - rumbled PNC Park for several minutes during the fourth inning. . Pittsburghs Thursday scheduled starter, RHP Edionson Volquez, is 5-0 in his career against the Cubs. Chicagos probable starter, RHP Jeff Samardzija, has a 1.90 ERA in 71 career innings against the Pirates, including seven shutout innings on opening day at PNC Park. Chad Williams Jersey .C. -- After a listless first half, the Washington Wizards used a big third quarter run to beat the Charlotte Bobcats Bradley Beal scored 21 points and the Wizards used a 17-0 run in the third quarter to take control of what had been a close game and beat the Bobcats 97-83 on Tuesday night. Chase Edmonds Cardinals Jersey . The 18-time champions, who havent won the title since 1990, moved two points behind Arsenal after the leaders were stunned 6-3 at Manchester City on Saturday. Defending champion Manchester United trails Arsenal by 10 points after winning 3-0 at Aston Villa to avoid a third successive league loss. http://www.nflcardinalsrookiestore.com/C...an-Kirk-Jersey/. Bradley is one of eight players selected to the team who also played in this years World Cup in Brazil. The MLS all-stars will compete against German giants Bayern Munich in Portland on Aug. Josh Bynes Cardinals Jersey .com)LeBron clearly likes his Italian sports cars, and thats ok with me, so up next up is the 458 Spider.INDIANAPOLIS -- Andrew Bynum joined the Indiana Pacers for the first time since signing a week ago. Bynum participated in the teams shootaround at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Friday morning as the Pacers prepared for their game against Portland on Friday night. A snowstorm kept the 7-foot centre from landing in Indianapolis sooner, and Pacers coach Frank Vogel expects to take "a few weeks" to get Bynum ready to play in a game. "Well come back from the All-Star break and see how practices go over the next week or two after that before we decide if hes ready," Vogel said. "We want to make sure hes comfortable." Bynum pplayed in 24 games this season with the Cleveland Cavaliers before being suspended indefinitely by the team in December.dddddddddddd "Its a winning atmosphere," Bynum said. "Obviously, when they have the staff that they have here and the legend Larry Bird, things run correctly. Its a lot easier to fit in here and be positive when the atmosphere is already that way." He hasnt done much since leaving the Cavs. "Just relaxing at home and thats it," he said. When asked if he kept a workout routine during his time off, Bynum said, "not really." That will make it harder to get back into game shape. Joakim Nordstrom, Alex Broadhurst and Terry Broadhurst also scored for Rockford (22-21-6), which had period leads of 1-0 and 3-1. McNeills goal snapped a 4-4 tie. Mashinter scored a power play goal in the second period to give the IceHogs a 3-1 lead, and he put the game away with an empty netter. Sven Andrighetto had a goal and three assists for the Bulldogs (20-21-4), who lost their fourth in a row. Greg Pateryn and Maxime Macenauer got the other Hamilton goals. Cilic also lifted his career record in Zagreb to 22-4, winning 20 of his last 21 matches at the event. Custom Memphis Grizzlies Jerseys .com) - The Chicago Blackhawks take aim at their longest winning streak of the season on Sunday when they host the Calgary Flames in a battle at the United Center. We are just four days into the tournament, but there has been no shortage of talking points at Brazil 2014 both on and off the pitch. The goals have been flowing with 37 scored through the first 11 matches, making it the highest scoring World Cup since 1958. Here are the top five things that caught my attention in the tournament so far. 1. Pain for Spain There really was no bigger story for me during the opening days of the tournament than the remarkable fall of the defending Champions Spain at the hands of the Netherlands. It wasnt just the size of the win by the Dutch in a repeat of the 2010 World Cup Final, it was the manner of the victory that shook the soccer world. Four goals is the biggest margin of defeat for a defending Champion in World Cup history. From Robin Van Persies stunning diving header, to Arjen Robbens exceptional two-goal performance it was an incredible, clinical display from the Netherlands, and they could have finished with more goals. All of this came after Spain had taken the lead, and almost went 2-0 up just before RVPs equalizer. However, as impressive as the Dutch were, much of the surprise was about how Spain crumbled. In the second half, the defending World and European Champions looked anything but. The performance of the normally reliable Iker Casillas was just one black mark on a bad afternoon at the office for the Spaniards, and a late miss from close range by Fernando Torres summed up a bleak afternoon. Spain lost their first match in 2010 and went on to win the World Cup. It will be fascinating to see how they respond this time around. 2. Magical Messi There was much talk heading into the tournament about Lionel Messis status as one of the true soccer greats. Can he be on a pedestal alongside the likes of Pele and Diego Maradona if he doesnt win a World Cup? Messi showed on Sunday night what we have seen many times before for Barcelona. Whatever the game, whoever is around him, he has the ability to single-handedly influence the outcome. Argentina were not at their best against Bosnia and Herzegovina, and neither was Messi, but with his team holding a slender one goal advantage against the World Cup newcomers, Messi scored a fantastic goal, leaving defenders trailing in his wake. It was a piece of individual brilliance that provided a spark needed by his team. Whether Messi wins the tournament or not is irrelevant to me - he has already shown plenty for both club and country to be classed as one of the Worlds elite players of all time. 3. Young Lions I didnt expect much from England heading into the tournament, but I was pleasantly surprised by their performance in the 2-1 defeat to Italy on Saturday night. With young attacking flair, they looked dangerous going forward, and despite losing the match showed there is much to look forward to in the future.dddddddddddd Raheem Sterling certainly repaid the faith shown by England boss Roy Hodgson with the Liverpool teenager putting in an excellent performance. One of the big debates afterwards was the performance of Wayne Rooney. He missed an excellent chance with England down 2-1 but struggled to influence the game from an unfamiliar position wide on the left. If England are to be successful, they need to get the best out of Rooney, and Im not sure that position will enable that to happen. With Costa Ricas surprise victory over Uruguay, it leaves the group wide open. Italy will be favourites to advance in first place. England will need to tighten up defensively but if they can produce similar attack-minded performances in their next two matches, I think they have a good chance to advance. 4. Croatia Robbed After all the build up to the World Cup, when the action finally began, it was a massive letdown that the post-game talking point was about refereeing and a controversial penalty. Neymar and Oscar produced star performances as the host nation got off to a winning start, but the game really turned Brazils way when Dejan Lovren was judged to have fouled Fred in the box. It should never have been a penalty. The contact was minimal, and Fred flopped like an Olympic diver, but Japanese referee Yuichi Nishimura pointed to the spot and the penalty gave Brazil the lead they needed to settle some nerves. It was a very poor decision, but fortunately in the days that followed, the action has been so good that the officials have not been the centre if attention. However, Croatian fans will find it difficult to forgive and forget as they were in the game until the referee changed the course of the match. 5. Ouch! Poor old Gary Lewin. Immediately after Daniel Sturridge scored Englands levelling goal in the first half against Italy on Saturday night, cameras zoomed in on the touch line near the England bench. A crowd of people, including medics, were huddled around someone who was lying flat out on the floor. At first there was confusion. Who was it? What had gone wrong? Turns out the man down injured was actually the England physio! Gary Lewin had hurt himself while celebrating Englands goal. He jumped up, landed on a water bottle and dislocated his ankle. It was an embarrassing situation at the time, but it will leave Lewin with a good story in years to come of how he injured himself during a World Cup match and had to be stretchered off! Roy Hodgson confirmed the injury after the match and also that Lewins World Cup is over. A disappointing end for the physio, but at least he will have expert help on hand throughout his recovery. SEATTLE -- Chris Young isnt prone to self-praise. Even after a good start, the Seattle Mariners right-hander is more comfortable giving credit to anyone but himself. Young had another opportunity to act the consummate teammate after he pitched pitching eight efficient innings Saturday night to lead the Mariners to a 3-1 win over the Kansas City Royals. "Im happy," Young said. "Im happy we won. Thats first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however its done." Young (3-0) allowed three hits, struck out three and walked none. It was the first time he threw at least eight innings since he tossed a complete game for the San Diego Padres in 2008. Young pitched sparingly in the majors from 2009-12 and missed most of last season after having surgery to address a nerve ailment that affects his shoulder. The tall right-hander needed just 96 pitches and set down the Royals in order in five of his eight innings. "Ive said all along, hes a veteran guy that knows what hes doing, what he wants to do," Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said. "When hes capable of executing his pitches, hes pretty tough. "Hes gotten better every time out. We got to remember this guys coming off surgery. Very limited amount of spring training. So what hes doing is really remarkable, to command it so early like he is." Fernando Rodney pitched around a two-out single in the ninth inning to record his 11th save in 12 attempts. Justin Smoak gave Young all the run support he would need with a two-run home run to right in the fourth to give the Mariners a 2-1 lead. Smoaks fifth home run of the season gave him 24 RBIs, a number he didnt reach last year until Aug. 1. Dustin Ackley added a solo shot to right in the sixth inning off Royals starter Yordano Ventura. Ventura (2-2) allowed three runs in 6 1-3 innings. The right-hander issued a season-high four walks, while notching a season-low three strikeouts. "You know, he threw the ball really well," Royals skipper Ned Yost said. "The pitch to Smoak wasnt a bad pitch, it was down and in that he got the head out on. The pitch to Ackley was a changeup that he drove into the seats. But outside of that, it was OK." Mariners right fielder Michael Saunders hurt himself when his foot slid in the grass near the right-field line while he was chasing a ball hit by Mike Moustakas in the top of the third inning. Saunders fell to the ground and the ball bounced over him, allowing Moustakas to reach third with a triple. The Royals took advantage of the opportunity as Alcides Escobar followed with a sacrifice fly to left to give Kansas City a 1-0 lead. Saunders left the game after the inning and was diagnosed with a hyperextended left knee. He is considered day to day. The four hits tied a season-low for the Royals, who have struggled to find power during their time in Seattle. Of its 23 hits in three games thus far in the series, Kansas City has just one extra-base hit. "So far, so good, but my goal is to help this club make the playoffs," Young said. "My goal isnt to make five ... (or six starts). I try not to evaluate at this point. I just want to keep getting better, working hard and to keep helping the club. I feel like if I do that one game at a time, you look back, well be satisfied where we are." NOTES: Sundays series finale will pit Seattle LHP Roenis Elias against Kansas City RHP Jeremy Guthrie. ... Mariners rookie James Jones hit in the leadoff spot for the first time in his career. Manager Lloyd McClendon said Jones, who hit .306 in the minors from the top spot in the lineup, is a "prototypical leadoff guy." ... Home plate umpire Scott Barry left Saturdays game following the third inning after appearing to take a pitch off his right hand. Crew chief Jeff Nelson took over behind the plate and the game finished with three umpires. Jose Calderon Cavaliers Jersey . The light-heavyweight champion and number one ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the world is on an 11-fight UFC winning streak, the longest in the history of the weight class. He will next face Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain, who advanced when Jurgen Zopp of Estonia retired with an injury at 5-5 in the first set. Rodney Hood Jersey . In mens doubles, Vancouvers Vasek Pospisil and American Jack Sock reached the quarter-finals with a 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3), 6-4 win over Croatian Mate Pavic and Andre Sa of Brazil.
