PAUL, Minn. THE 15 BEST NRL PLAYERS OFF-CONTRACT AFTER 2017:* Darius Boyd: Arguably the best fullback in the NRL, Boyds career-best season for Brisbane allowed him to keep the No.1 jerseys in the Queensland and Australian teams.* Ben Barba: The fullback won his first premiership with Cronulla after returning to his best and reviving his career following an unsuccessful stint with the Broncos.* Billy Slater: Sidelined with injury the past two seasons, the star Melbourne No.1 believes he still has plenty to offer.* James Tedesco: The star Wests Tigers fullback is emerging as the man to reverse NSWs State of Origin fortunes. He was brilliant in his Origin debut this year in game three.* Josh Dugan: A shining light during St George Illawarras below-par year, the NSW centre was deemed good enough to keep Canberras tackle-busting machine Joey Leilua out of Australian contention.* Semi Radradra: Amid injury and troubled year off-field, the damaging Parramatta winger won his first Australian cap in 2016. Will be looking for a big 2017 after his place in the Kangaroos squad was taken by Valentine Holmes.* Jack Bird: Still young at 21, the centres signature will be of much interest after a breakout year when he made his Origin debut for NSW. The Sharks have begun negotiations and have guaranteed he wont be going anywhere.* Blake Ferguson: Despite a difficult year with strugglers the Sydney Roosters, Ferguson appears to have overcome off-field woes which led to his early career go off the rails. The centre was an Australian and NSW representative in 2016.* Valentine Holmes: Another key member of the Sharks premiership team, the 21-year-old scored an equal-second competition-high 19 tries this sseason.dddddddddddd. Made his Test debut for Australia in October against New Zealand.* Anthony Milford: Only 22 but already approaching 100 NRL games, the playmaker is an integral member of the Broncos plans. He was arguably the best player in the competition for the first 10 rounds. Brisbane are expected to throw everything at him to retain his services.* Johnathan Thurston: The superstar North Queensland playmaker is in the latter stages of his career and has flagged stepping down from Queensland Origin duties next year to focus on winning his second premiership at club level. Led the NRL in try assists in 2016.* Ben Hunt: Has been linked with move to Parramatta and has new competition for his halves spot at the Broncos with the arrival of Benji Marshall. Still an invaluable player, having recorded the third-most try assists in the NRL this year.* Shaun Johnson: The halfback is under increasing pressure to lead the Warriors into premiership contention after five years in finals wilderness. Has his best opportunity in 2017 with a likely halves partnership with Kieran Foran, who is set to join the Auckland-based club.* Mitchell Pearce: The Roosters halfback will be out to atone for a year to forget which included his eight-week suspension at the start of the season for his Australia Day indiscretion. He lost the NSW No.7 jumper.* Jason Taumalolo: A breakout year for the Cowboys lock included his first Dally M award which he shared with Melbournes Cooper Cronk. The monster Kiwi averaged the second-most metres of any forward in the competition. ' ' '

As the talk of a possible NFL Most Valuable Player award builds for Raiders quarterback?Derek Carr, so do the expectations that a new blockbuster deal is right on the horizon for him.The Raiders are prioritizing a new deal for Carr after this season, and a league source expects that deal to be Luck-ish, a reference to the five-year, $123 million contract that Andrew Luck signed with Indianapolis this past summer. This offseason will be the first time Carr can sign an extension with Oakland.Carr is completing 66.3 percent of his passes and has a passer rating of 100.9 for the Raiders, who are 6-2 and in a first-place tie in the AFC West with Denver. The Broncos and Raiders face each other Sunday night. There are many reasons the Raiders want to re-sign its quarterback beyond his talents. They also have linebacker Khalil Macks contract coming up in 2018, and they will need to have the franchise tag for one of them if they fail to strike a deal with the other.Plus, wide receiver Amari Coopers contract comes up in 2019. Wragge hit 9-of-14 from behind the arc, matching Kyle Korvers school record for 3-pointers in a game set in 2003, as Creighton (16-3, 6-1 Big East broke a conference record with 21 treys in the rout. (STATS) -- So the Southland Conference title that second-ranked Sam Houston State is supposed to run away with this season …Saturdays high-scoring night across the conference suggested it wont be as easy as expected for the Bearkats. The night was punctuated by Central Arkansas 28-23 win over Arkansas State -- the second over an FBS program since the Bears joined the FCS in 2006. Ironically, wide receiver Brandon Cox, an Arkansas State transfer, scored the winning touchdown. We played our butts off against Oklahoma State (last year), coach Steve Campbell said. We played our butts off against Texas Tech (two years ago). And we played out butts off tonight. And its great to be proud of a team for fighting their butts off and then getting rewarded for it by winning the football game.Last year, only four of the 11 Southland teams posted winning records, but there appears to be better depth this season.Like Sam Houston (3-0) and Central Arkansas (3-1), Stephen F. Austin (3-1) also is 2-0 in the conference race, and the Lumberjacks are threatening to join the national rankings. They will try to turn the race upside down when they face the Bearkats next weekend in Houston. Then theres McNeese, which rebounded from a three-point loss to SFA with a win over Incarnate Word. The defending conference champion also has a matchup ahead with Sam Houston.Nicholls, which had a 23-game losing streak as recently as last October, wasnt even supposed to be in the conversation, but the Colonels have come within three points of two FBS programs -- a 41-40 heartbreaker to South Alabama this past Saturday after a 26-24 setback to Georgia to open the season. With 2013 and 14 Southland champ Southeastern Louisiana as well as Lamar still anxious to cause trouble in the conference behind All-America running back Kade Harrington, the title race has some potential spoilers. With talk always on Sam Houston making another deep run in the FCS playoffs, the Bearkats may not want to look ahead too often.---=SECOND AND 10=Ten more observations from the FCS weekend:1.) The Missouri Valley Football Conference, which only has conference games remaining in the regular season, had quite the impressive September against FBS programs. Its teams finished 4-6 overall with one win on each of the four Saturdays. Western Illinois 28-23 triumph at Northern Illinois joined Northern Iowa (Iowa State), Illinois State (Northwestern) and North Dakota State (Iowa) for a single-season record in the MVFC. We came in, theres always that FBS-FCS middle line separating us, Leathernecks quarterback Sean McGuire said. But weve seen its a thin line and obviously a lot of teams have shown that this year. We showed it today.2.) If Cal Poly has been the team overlooked for the Top 25 -- OK, the Big Sky squad wont this week after a third straight win over Montana -- then the team which has been overrated is William & Mary. The Tribe (2-2) were much too high in the national poll at No. 8 last week and a loss at Elon with wins only over two MEAC teams leaves them searching for an identity as their CAA Football schedule really toughens. They probably need to at least split their next two games on the road at New Hampshire and James Madison.3.) Ohio Valley Conference power Jacksonville State, last years national runner-up to North Dakota State, heads into its bye week knowing Auburn transfer Roc Thomas has come on strong to take pressure off quarterback Eli Jenkins, who also has his top wide receiver, Josh Barge, back from injury. The triple threat combined to dominate Liberty 48-19 Saturday night.4.) Theres a reason preseason polls are conducted before training camp. Once teams pick up footballs, everything changes. Look at some of the rough starts conference favorites are having: Richmond suffered a 28-point loss to Stony Brook in its CAA Football opener. Big Sky favorite Northern Arizona lost the game and quarterback Case Cookus to a shoulder injury at home against Eastern Washington. Alcorn State, thhe two-time defending SWAC champ, already has two conference losses.dddddddddddd5.) Speaking of Alcorn State, the rematch of last years SWAC Championship Game was one-sided as Grambling State handled the Braves 43-18. Transfer quarterback Devante Kincade had 482 total yards and a hand in all six Grambling touchdowns. The Braves, who travel to Arkansas next, arent the same team without injured QB Lenorris Footman.6.) San Diego played keep away from Dayton in winning 34-22 at home in the matchup of last years Pioneer Football League co-champs. The Toreros held the ball for 41 minutes, 25 seconds, only punting twice to Daytons eight times. Tevin Heywards 1-yard touchdown run gave the Toreros the lead with 4:31 left and Anthony Lawrences 62-yard scoring pass to Jonah Hodges sealed the win.7.) Just when it looked the Northeast Conference would remain without a signature win over an FCS scholarship program, Sacred Heart won 38-10 at No. 20 Stony Brook, just one week after Stony Brook pounded then-No. 2 Richmond 42-14. The Pioneers were mediocre last season after winning NEC titles in 2013 and 14, but coach Mark Nofri has an excellent senior class this season. Against Stony Brook, quarterback RJ Noel passed for a touchdown and also rushed for two scores, while the defense held an opponent scoreless in the second half for the fifth consecutive game.8.) Wofford (3-1) didnt allow East Tennessee State to reach its side of the field, surrendering only 76 yards in a 31-0 win that marked its second consecutive shutout. A program known for its triple option rushing, the Terriers also are taking away the run, allowing a mere 2.1 yards per carry and 56.5 yards per game. The Southern Conference squad wants to get back to the playoffs after a three-year absence, but its road schedule is brutally tough.9.) Georgetown struggles in the Patriot League as the only program not to offer football scholarships, but the Hoyas usually hold their own against other non-scholarship teams. Coach Rob Sgarlatas team beat Columbia 17-14 to improve to 3-0 -- all against non-scholarship teams. Quarterback Tim Barnes waited his turn to become the starter and has been efficient as a senior. A tough stretch await the Hoyas, beginning next Friday night at Harvard.10.) As expected, Delaware State was woefully overmatched in a 79-0 loss at Missouri, but second-year coach Kenny Carter sees the benefits for his MEAC program beyond the athletic departments much-needed payday: Lets do this comparison, he said. Compare it to being in the weight room and trying to get stronger. If youre in the weight room and youre lifting weights and youre lifting little weights, youre not going to get any stronger. Youve got to lift heavy weight to get stronger. And its the same thing in football. You go play opponents that you see are better than you, and on paper theyre definitely better than you, how are you going to refine your skill set or see where you are if you dont play people that are better?---=A LOOK AHEAD=Illinois State and North Dakota State, who have shared the last two Missouri Valley titles, meet for the first time in the regular season since 2013 next Saturday at the Fargodome.Other Top 25 matchups, depending on Mondays new STATS poll, have Western Illinois going to South Dakota State in the Missouri Valley and former Big South rivals Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina squaring off on the teal turf at Coastal. Also, key conference matchups include: Big Sky, Cal Poly at North Dakota and Southern Utah at Montana; CAA, Delaware at James Madison and William & Mary at New Hampshire; Ivy, Penn at Dartmouth (Friday night); MEAC, North Carolina Central at a surprisingly winless Bethune-Cookman; Southland, Sam Houston State vs. Stephen F. Austin in the Battle of the Piney Woods at NRG Stadium in Houston; and SWAC, Prairie View A&M at Grambling State. ' ' '

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Kentucky volleyball team used a balanced offensive attack to win for the 12th-straight time, topping Ole Miss 3-0 (25-20, 29-27, 25-19) on Sunday afternoon in Memorial Coliseum.Kentucky (15-4, 8-0 SEC) had three players with at least 10 kills in the match. Freshman Leah Edmond led the way for the Wildcats with 12 kills, while juniors Kaz Brown and Darian Mack had 11 and 10 kills, respectively. We need that, we want that, because we want it to be difficult to prepare for us, so we want to have that balance, Kentucky head coach Craig Skinner said. (Setter Olivia Dailey) does a good job of recognizing who hasnt gotten the ball lately and tries to get them involved to keep the blockers on their toes. Thats a very important piece of playing at an elite level.Dailey continued to play well for the Wildcats, both offensively and defensively. The three-time defending Southeastern Conference setter of the week had 46 assists in the match, while adding six block assists and six digs. The 46 kills marks a new 25-point rally scoring era record for a three-set match. Its the most digs in a three-set affair since 2011.The 23rd-ranked Wildcats also got key contributions from both of the teams seniors on Sunday. Sharay Barnes had six kills and hit .400 for the match, while classmate Anni Thomasson also had six kills, along with 10 digs and a pair of assists.Im proud of Sharay, she came in and did a really good job this weekend, Skinner said. Anni was big at the end of the second set. She had a couple of kills, she made several good digs, and while she didnt have aces, her serve really put them in some tough situations offensively.UK blitzed the Rebels for 55 total kills - the most in a three-set match in the 25-point rally era. It also tops a season high total, as Kentucky posted 54 against Mississippi State a few weeks ago. Six players registered six or more kills on the day to pace the attack.Junior libero Ashley Dusek led the backline defensive effort with a match-high 17 digs. Thomasson had 10, while Edmond and sophomore McKenzie Watson both contributed eight.Kentucky returns to action on Friday night, when the Wildcats host South Carolina in Memorial Coliseum. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET and can be seen on the SEC Network+.SET RECAPSSet 1Kentucky grabbed the lead early in the set behind a pair of kills from Edmond and Dailey. When Dailey teamed with Brown on a block assist, the Wildcats led 6-3. Kentucky stretched the lead to 13-9, but Ole Miss cut it to 13-12 before the Wildcats were able to extend the lead and eventually win the set 25-20. Kentucky hit .317 as a team in the set, while holding Ole Miss to a .100 hitting percentage. Edmond paced Kentucky with six kills, while Brown had four. Dusek had 10 digs for the Wildcats, while Dailey had 12 assists.Set 2The second set was a back-and-forth affair, with each team making significant runs during the set. Kentucky trailed 15-11 before going on an 11-1 run to lead 22-16. But Ole Miss fought back with six straight points to tie the set at 22-22. Kentucky faced set point, trailing 26-25, but the Wildcats eventually won the frame 29-27. Kentucky hit .231 in the set, but held Ole Miss to just a .160 percentage. Brown had six kills in the set, in addition to four block assists. Thomasson had three key kills late in the set, and added six digs. Dailey added another 17 assists.Set 3There would be no such drama in the third set. Kentucky established a lead early and never looked back. Barnes had three kills early in the set as the Wildcats built a 5-1 lead. Ole Miss got as close as 13-11, but Kentucky was able to pull away late in the set behind Edmonds five kills. The Wildcats won the set 25-19 to finish the match. Kentucky hit a sizzling .621 in the set, with 20 kills and just two errors. Dailey added 17 assists for the second straight set, while Dusek had four digs. Air Max 95 Outlet .2 billion agreement with Rogers Communications for the leagues broadcast and multimedia rights. SHKODRA, Albania -- Mario Mandzukic struck a first-half hat trick for Croatia to hand Kosovos 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign a bitter setback on Thursday. The team from the tiny Balkan nation earned a credible 1-1 draw in Finland last month in its competitive international debut and was looking to spring another surprise against heavy favorite Croatia. But Croatia and Mandzukic had different ideas, and won 6-0. It was the first competitive home game for Kosovo but played in Albanias northern city of Shkodra, as Kosovo has no stadium certified by UEFA.All 16,000 seats in Shkodras recently renovated stadium were filled.Kosovo became a UEFA member in May, joined FIFA a week later, and was fast-tracked into World Cup qualifying though many nations still have not recognized it.Proving the sensitivity of the move, Croat fans started chanting in Serbo-Croatian Kill, kill the Serbs in the second half, and they were echoed and followed by Kosovo fans, too, in Albanian.Croatia was without star midfielders Ivan Rakitic and Luka Modric but had another star available: Mandzukic ruthlessly exploited Kosovos inexperience and needed just six minutes to open the scoring off a pass from Andrej Kramaric. And that was just the beginning for the striker. In the 24th, Mandzukic met Ivan Perisics cross to head home and double the lead, and completed his hat trick with another header 10 minutes before the interval, this time using a cross from Sime Vrsaljko, for his 27th goal in 71 internationals. With the damage done and the result beyond doubt early, Mandzukic was substituted by Nikola Kalinic in the 58th.Matej Mitrovic, Perisic and Kalinic added one each for Croatia to finish Kosovo off. With only the winner qualifying automatically, Croatia is tied atop Group I with Iceland, on four points. Ukraine and Turkey have two points after their 2-2 draw. Kosovo is at the bottom of the group with one.ICELAND 3, FINLAND 2Iceland rallied in the final minutes to earn its first victory in qualifying.Alfred Finnbogason leveled the score in the final minute of the match, and Ragnar Sigurdsson scored the winner deep into stoppage time for the surprise Euro 2016 quarterfinalist.Gylfi Sigurdsson wasted a golden opportunity to tie it at 2-2 from the spot earlier in the second.Finland, which is also seeking its first World Cup appearance, took a 2-1 lead with goals from Teemu Pukki and Robin Lod.Kari Arnason scored for Iceland in the first half.TURKEY 2, UKRAINE 2Hakan Calhanoglu converted from the spot nine minutes from time to keep Turkey in contention. The Ukraine visitors, who hope to add another World Cup appearance after reaching the quarterfinals in 2006, made a strong start through Andriy Yarmolenko from the penalty spot, and Artem Kravets doubled the lead for Ukraine just three minutes later.Ozan Tufan reduced the lead to one in first-half stoppage time to start the Turkish comeback. Bollinger, who had been a mid-match replacement for Mitchell Starc, picked up 4 for 32, while Trent Copeland and Test squad members Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon each collected two wickets. The Bulls began the morning on 1 for 51 after Burns and Khawaja gave them a solid start on the third evening, buut only one run had been added to the overnight total when Khawaja was out hooking off Bollinger for 12.dddddddddddd In the very next over Burns was also out hooking, caught behind off Hazlewood for 30, to cap off a week in which he was overlooked for Test selection. From then on there was little resistance from Queensland, with Michael Neser (28) the only other batsman to reach 20. Changes could still be made as a result of a suspension or injury.TORONTO -- Melky Cabrera homered and scored twice while Edwin Encarnacion sparked Torontos four-run rally in the sixth inning as the Blue Jays defeated the Texas Rangers 6-1 on Friday night. Starter Esmil Rogers and four Toronto relievers combined to allow just four hits as the Blue Jays took the opener of the three-game series at Rogers Centre. The Blue Jays loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth inning and Encarnacion drove a pitch from Rangers starter Nick Tepesch into left-centre field to push two runs across. Toronto (26-34) added two more runs in the frame on sacrifice flies by Adam Lind and J.P. Arencibia. Texas (36-24) entered play with the best record in the American League and started strong by opening the scoring in the first inning. Jurickson Profar hit a one-out single up the middle and moved to second on a balk. A.J. Pierzynski lined out before Adrian Beltre lashed a single to centre field. Outfielder Colby Rasmus hurried the throw home but it was well offline and Profar scored easily. The Rangers stranded two runners in the fourth inning. Pierzynski singled to open the frame and moved to second on a David Murphy walk. Rogers got Craig Gentry to ground out to Maicer Izturis at third base who stepped on the bag for the force out. Tepesch (3-5) retired the Jays in order the first time through the lineup. Mushfiqur Rahim admitted Bangladesh are still hurting from their agonising defeat to England in the first Test but knows they cannot dwell too much on what happened as they bid to square the series in Dhaka. At the start of a nerve-shredding final morning in Chittagong, the Tigers needed 33 runs while England required two wickets and it was the tourists who came out on top thanks to Ben Stokes removing Taijul Islam and Shafiul Islam in the space of three balls.Bangladesh did themselves no disgrace in their first Test in nearly 15 months as they played their part in an engrossing contest, but they must now shake off the close loss at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. We are still hurting from the loss in Chittagong so it is best to move on from that game, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur said. Watch NOW TV Watch Sky Sports for just £6.99. No contract. We know that had we given one per cent more, the Test would have been in our favour. We were on the back foot playing our first Test after 15 months. We werent the favorites but the boys did well. I have always wanted our team to be consistent in Tests. We would like to take the positive from that game and use them in Dhaka. Rahim was unable to inspire his side to victory in the first Test The pitch in Chittagong offered dramatic turn from the first session and Mushfiqurs opposite number Alastair Cook believes the surface will offer similar help to the spinners in Dhaka. But Mushfiqur said: The Dhaka Test will be played on a different soil altogether. We dont know how it will behave but I just want our spinners to take advantage from the wicket and for the batsmen to be more responsible.Bangladesh will make at least one change to their line-up after omitting paceman Shafiul from the squad and the suspicion is they will opt to play another spinner, with Shuvagata Hom touted for a recall. You can watch Premier League and EFL Cup football, plus Englands tour of Bangladesh and the Mexican Grand Prix on Sky Sports. GOLD COAST, Queensland -- If Adam Scott is to win a second Australian PGA Championship title, he must overcome a four-shot deficit from leader Andrew Dodt going into the weekend at Royal Pines.Scott started poorly with a bogey at the second, but five birdies in eight holes from the 9th kept the world No. 7 in contention with a second consecutive 68.Thats the best Ive played in a couple of weeks and it was a good day to do it, because it wasnt that easy, Scott said. I started driving the ball properly and it carried onto the rest of my game as well.Dodt, a two-time European Tour winner, carded a 67 to add to his opening-round 65 and will head into Saturdays third round at 12 under par and with a two-shot buffer over fellow Australian Ashley Hall. At least it was light, so we could get out there, but its just an unusual feeling. I didnt manage to get any jetlag at all flying from America, but my tee time has managed to give me jetlag. Its kind of an unusual situation, but I guess theres a first for everything.I dont ever remember an alarm going off at any time in the threes for a tee off time in the last 17 years, so its definitely a first and the body clock is not 100% on time. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona is more concerned about how his rotation will line up for the American League Division Series than the Saturday matchup with the Kansas City Royals.Right-hander Trevor Bauer, who starts Saturday, will in all likelihood by the Indians starter for the first postseason game Thursday.Right-hander Carlos Carrasco was placed on the 60-day disabled list Friday, removing him from any postseason appearances.Cy Young candidate Corey Kluber is nursing a quadriceps strain, while All-Star right-hander Danny Salazar has a forearm strain. While Kluber, who is 18-9 with a 3.14 ERA, threw long toss Friday before the game at Kauffman Stadium, he has yet to test his sore leg with a mound session. Salazar could have a simulated game Monday if he feels good the next couple of days.We need to talk through with the staff, and we need to talk to Kluber more, too, cause we want to get a better feel for where he is, too, Francona said. Were not going to know that for a little bit, so thats kind of why were waiting to see whats going on here.Does that mean who would start Game 1 of the ALDS?If and when and why, yeah, Francona said.Bauer has indicated he would be willing to pitch on short rest or be available every day out of the bullpen.I dont doubt that, Francona said. Thats something that, we need to talk through. Weve already talked with him.Bauer is 12-8 with a 4.26 ERA in 34 games (27 starts) this season. He struck out 159, walked 68 and allowed 173 hits in 184 innings. The Indians are one-half game behind Boston for home-field advantage in their upcoming ALDS.The Royals, who wont be in the postseason after playing in the past two World Series, will start Edinson Volquez on Saturday. He is 0-1 with a 7.77 ERA and opponents are hitting .324 off him in five September starts. He gave up 12 doubles and four home runs among 33 hits in 24 1/3 innings. This will be his sixth start against the Indians this year (1-2, 3.73), becoming only the second Kansas City pitcher to make six starts against the same team in a season.Meanwhile, the Royals try to figure out how Yordano Ace Ventura might improve during the offseason. His loss Friday to the Indians left him with a 4.45 ERA, the highest of his career.I just think that hes starting to understand, Royals manager Ned Yost said. Again, obviously, tonight, its still not quite there to be able to take it through six or seven innings, but you see the difference in five innings when hes staying within himself and just dotting that fastball, good curveball, nice changeup and then he starts to fly open a little bit, getting a little bit strong and then leaves pitches up in the zone and they do damage on it.Ventura gave up four runs, all in the third inning, while striking out eight, walking three and hitting a batter.Thank goodness I was able to finish the season healthy and Im going to go back home and start working to prepare myself for spring training next year, Ventura said with catching coach Pedro Grifol acting as his interpreter. (STATS) -- Familiarity surrounds Saturdays opening-round playoff game between New Hampshire and Lehigh.Besides this being the teams fifth meeting in seven years, UNH is beginning the playoffs at home against the Patriot League champion for the fourth consecutive season.I figured thats probably where we would go as thats been the pattern lately, Lehigh coach Andy Coen said. Also just like last year, the winner will go on to play at James Madison. Thats a CAA Football rival for the 22nd-ranked Wildcats (7-4), but they know better than to look ahead.Their streak of 13 straight playoff appearances is the longest in the FCS. They reached the national semifinals in 2013 and 2014 -- those runs began with blowouts of Lafayette and Fordham, respectively -- before being stunned in the opening round last year by Colgate.Last year, we had the same situation, a Patriot League team coming to Durham, Wildcats leading rusher Dalton Crossan said. I think personally that we kind of wrote them off. Not like really we thought we were going to win 100 percent, but we were kind of looking towards JMU, thinking about going to JMU. We had already beaten (Colgate) earlier in the year.Us seniors are going to make sure that is not the mindset. While UNH is the perennial powerhouse from a conference which has four teams in the postseason, Lehigh (9-2) is the lone representative from an inferior league. That doesnt mean the little guy will be a pushover. In fact, the odds-makers made the Mountain Hawks a slight favorite.Theyre actually ranked higher in the STATS FCS Top 25 at No. 18, and deservedly so after closing the regular season with nine straight victories. Whereas Lehigh wrapped up the Patriot title a few weeks ago, the Wildcats had to wait with fingers crossed on Selection Sunday -- and their at-large hopes were nearly dashed a day earlier when they needed a late field goal to beat Maine.Weve been in some type of playoff mode probably since the middle of the season on, knowing that you win this one, you lose this one, you might not be going to the dance, New Hampshire coach Sean McDonnell said. While McDonnells team hasnt missed the playoffs since 2003, Lehigh is in the field for the first time since 2011.What scares you is you have a team with the tradition of New Hampshire, and they know what its like to play winning football at the FCS level in the playoffs, Coen said, and we wont have one player thats stepped fooot in the playoffs.dddddddddddd Thats a little scary for us, but I like our football team.Theres a lot to like about the offense.Nick Shafnisky took home Patriot offensive player of the year honors despite missing 2 1/2 games with an ankle injury. Hes rushed for 10 touchdowns and thrown for 20 in just nine games, surpassing 230 yards passing in seven of them. His two favorite targets are the Patriots two leading receivers, with Troy Pelletier and Gatlin Casey each having topped 1,000 yards while combining for 25 touchdowns. What makes the Mountain Hawks offense even scarier is that they became more balanced as the season wore on. Sophomore Dominick Bragalone, whom McDonnell called something special, rushed for 570 yards over the last four games while averaging 8.4 per carry.Offensively, its great to see the air show. Shaf, Gat and Troy are just killing it, said All-Patriot placekicker Ed Mish. And then Dom running people over and being able to get some long scores. Its been really exciting.Bragalone hopes to tear up the New Hampshire defense just as CAA rushing leader Elijah Ibitokun-Hanks did two weeks ago, gaining 298 yards in Albanys 36-25 upset win at Wildcat Stadium. That game and a 42-39 loss to James Madison on Oct. 15 were the only blemishes in conference play for UNH, but theyre also proof of vulnerability for a defense which has generally been the teams strength. In fact, the most yards the Wildcats have allowed came to a Patriot team -- 498 in a 39-28 win over Holy Cross on Sept. 10. On that same day, Lehigh nearly upset CAA power Villanova on the road, losing 26-21 on a late touchdown.Furthering the idea that UNH wont take the opponent lightly is the memory of last years shocking 27-20 playoff loss to Colgate. We know what (the Patriot League) can do, they beat us last year in the playoffs, McDonnell said. Believe me, everybodys antennas are on high here in Durham. The Wildcats lead the all-time series 12-3, including a 45-27 win in 2014 as they shut down an inexperienced Shafnisky. This Lehigh team, though, is much more talented. Plus, Coen has surely mentioned to his players how the Mountain Hawks upset UNH not so long ago -- 34-27 in 2013 in Durham.Things change over time, Coen said, but we have an idea of what they like to do and how they like to do it. British & Irish Lions assistant coach Andy Farrell believes they will face selection headaches when they draw up their squad for next summers tour of New Zealand while Rob Howley says they will need to score at least 30 points to beat the All Blacks.Warren Gatland unveiled three of his Lions backroom staff on Wednesday with Howley (backs), Farrell (defence) and Steve Borthwick (forwards) all confirmed and he also revealed his plan to add further specialists in due course. For Farrell, who is Irelands defence coach, he knows the Lions well having coached on their victorious 2013 series in Australia and he is relishing the challenge of touring again with the famous side. But Farrell -- who has beaten New Zealand twice as a coach -- is predicting the coaches will face a tough task to weigh up the balance of their squad with Six Nations influencing who will get the call.Northern hemisphere rugby is in a great place, Farrell said. Were going to be doing battle against each other in the Six Nations, in the New Year, whichll be great and as coaches were going to be watchhing each others teams.ddddddddddddWere going to have a headache after the Six Nations as there are going to be some top, top players that are going to be disappointed as theyre not going on the tour. So its going to be a super-exciting time for northern hemisphere rugby so lets get it started.Borthwick, part of the England coaching team, said there is the potential to build a great Lions forward pack while Howley, interim Wales coach, will be weighing up the contenders who could feature in the Lions backs division in New Zealand. From an attacking perspective, the modern Test game requires you to score 28 or 30 points and thats going to be the challenge for us going to New Zealand in May, Howley said. The intent and ambition will have to be there. You need two or three tries to just be competitive against New Zealand and Ireland showed the way in Chicago, scoring five tries. Thats going to be the challenge and as coaches we embrace it. ' ' '

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The symptoms that kept Ty Montgomery out of the Green Bay Packers loss at Atlanta on Sunday are related to sickle cell trait -- a condition the receiver said he was diagnosed with previously. However, he said last week was the first time he experienced any issues.Sources told ESPN on Sunday that Montgomery had blood in his urine and the Packers kept him out for precautionary reasons.Montgomery said he and his doctors believe this was related to sickle cell trait, not a hit he sustained during a game, and dont think its career-threatening. In fact, Montgomery hasnt ruled out playing Sunday against the Colts at Lambeau Field. It doesnt concern me, Montgomery said Monday. A lot of people have sickle cell trait and some of them dont even know, and not everybody experiences symptoms of it. Im not concerned about anything.Sickle cell trait is the result of one inherited sickle cell gene and one normal gene, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. People with the sickle cell trait usually dont exhibit symptoms of sickle cell disease. In rare cases, however, people with SCT might experience complications of SCD, such as pain crises, according to the CDCs website, which also noted that those with sickle cell trait are more likely to experience muscle breakdown when doing intense exercise than those who dont have the trait.Montgomery is at least the second NFL player to reveal recently that he has sickle cell trait . Arizona Cardinals receiver John Brown said he discovered he has it after a series of hamstring injuries.?Montgomery, a second-year pro who has played both running back and his natural receiver position this season, was coming off consecutive games with double-digit receptions and also rushed nine times for 60 yards in a Week 7 victory over the Bears. He would not say whether he was cleared to return to practice this week. Were just going to take it day by day, Montgomery said. So far, all signs lead to we feel confident to just take it day by day and play this week. So well see.Montgomerys agent, Damarius Bilbo, released a statement on his client:?My client Ty Montgomery has known he was a carrier for the sickle cell trait since he played at Stanford University. Prior to a couple of weeks ago, his health or performance had not been impacted by this hereditary blood disorder, directly or indirectly, but he did experience a complication after the Green Bay Packers Thursday night matchup against the Chicago Bears. After that matchup, Ty discovered the presence of blood in his urine. The doctors informed me that this symptom could be connected to his kidney being impacted. While already traveling to Dallas, Texas to visit family, he went to a local hospital to be evaluated. Ty spent 16 hours under observation between late Friday night and Saturday. Although not proven, there could be a link between his physical activity in the contest against the Bears, the impact on his kidney, and his disorder. The decision to rest him in the game against the Atlanta Falcons was a precautionary measure. Rob Baxter insists Exeter must look at Sundays Aviva Premiership opponents Bath to see the ingredients missing from their own game this season.Successive defeats in Europe have all but ended the Chiefs hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions Cup, while on the domestic front they have posted only two victories in six outings.Last season they reached the knockout stage of both competitions, but Baxter knows Exeter have lacked intensity this term.Bath have a lot of resilience and that is a great quality to have - probably the quality we have lacked this season, if we are honest with ourselves, Baxter said. You can see they look very confident in themselves and that is often the best indicator of a team. They are happy to play effective rugby and dont feel they have to play end-to-end stuff.A last-gasp 19-18 defeat by Ulster last weekend has convinced Baxter, however, that Exeter are nudging themselves back on track.I think were seeing the team improve bit by bit, Baxter said.As a team I want us to take lots of little steps over the course of this season and not talk about all of a sudden there needs to be some kind of miracle because spport is not like that.ddddddddddddWhat we have to be prepared to do is work very hard and take lots of little steps, not just as individuals, but as a team.Ulster was an intense game of Champions Cup rugby, which it went right to the wire. For me, that shows how close we are.Obviously you always want accuracy, but the key foundations of us being a bit angry and a bit intense were there whereas they werent the week before.Bath, beaten Premiership finalists in 2015, have been reborn under new head coch Todd Blackadder and among the reasons behind their success has been the form of wing Semesa Rokoduguni.Rocco is one of those X factor players, but hes smart and intelligent as well, Blackadder said.Hes a mature guy so hes not going to do anything erratic. He can stay within systems on attack and within systems on defence. Roccos lightning quick and hes got the best feet Ive ever seen. If you give him a little bit of open space hes going to finish. In Sundays two other fixtures, Wasps host Newcastle and Sale visit Bristol. ' ' '

SEOUL, South Korea -- Chinas overwhelming domination of table tennis at the Olympics will likely continue in Rio, but theres drama about just which member of the fantastically talented Chinese national team will prevail.Starting Aug. 6, there will also be intense competition among the rest of the world for bronze and, just maybe, a surprise gold or silver.Among the other stories that could captivate: A 16-year-old American looks to make his name internationally, war-torn Syria gets its first Olympic table tennis entry and two female Paralympian athletes will also compete in Olympic matches.Even if its another largely all-China affair, fans who tune in will be treated to a mesmerizing mix of wicked spins and powerful slams, with players rocketing the small, lightweight, white plastic ball at each other in a blur of slicing parabolas.Heres a look at what to expect from the worlds most popular racket sport, otherwise known as pingpong:---THE CHINA SCRAMBLEJust qualifying for a Chinese team that has taken home 24 of 28 gold medals since table tennis became an Olympic sport in 1988, and all the golds at the last two Games, is a major achievement. For instance, the current womens world No. 1, Liu Shiwen, didnt get one of her countrys two spots for singles, though she will be part of the team competition. Instead, it will be London champion Li Xiaoxia, now ranked No. 5, and reigning world champion and world No. 2 Ding Ning, who won silver in London, going to Rio in singles. For the mens side, current world No. 2 Fan Zhendong, a rising young star, and world No. 3 Xu Xin didnt make the Chinese singles team.London champion Zhang Jike, who was named after Brazilian soccer star Zico, will go to Rio in singles, despite being ranked No. 4 in the world and putting in erratic performances since London. Zhang, for instance, lost in the first round of a June tournament in South Korea to a player from Taiwan ranked No. 63 at the time. The other Chinese man for singles will be Ma Long, the current world NNo.dddddddddddd. 1, who lost in the finals of that South Korean tournament to Xu Xin.---THE REST OF THE WORLDAlthough still a source of national pride, some see a dip in table tennis popularity as China has become richer, more confident and more curious about other sports. The rest of the world, meanwhile, has been working to catch up. Theyve been helped by a rule that limits each country to only two players for each singles event; that gives everyone else a chance for medals, though mostly of the bronze variety. While China has the top three womens spots currently in the world rankings, there are three Japanese in the top 10, as well as one player each from Germany and Singapore. For men, China takes the top four spots, but after that comes players from Germany, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Belarus and South Korea. The United States has never medaled in table tennis, but there is excitement about the future. Kanak Jha, now 16, was the youngest male to qualify for table tennis in Olympic history when he made the U.S. team in April while still 15.---DOUBLE DUTYTwo female Paralympian table tennis athletes will also compete in the Olympic games -- a first, according to table tennis officials.Natalia Partyka of Poland, who was born without a right hand and forearm, has been in the last two Olympics, in Beijing and London. Partyka has also won gold three times at the Paralympics. It is the first Olympics for Melissa Tapper of Australia, whose right arm has nerve damage.---SYRIASyria will send its first player to an Olympic table tennis tournament, despite a long, calamitous war.Heba Allejji will represent Syria in Rio after being awarded a special place in the table tennis competition. The 19-year-old is currently ranked No. 713 in the world. She has competed in international competitions before, including the 2016 Asian Olympic qualifiers and the World Tour Qatar Open.
