Sri Lanka Crickets newly appointed womens team head coach Hemantha Devapriya is confident that the team will improve despite suffering their second successive series whitewash in the recently-concluded series against England.England are one of the leading sides in the top bracket in womens cricket. Although we lost to a strong side, the girls gave 100% and I can see some improvement, he said. The series was a good benchmark for me to gauge what standard we have to reach. We need to give them confidence, they need to learn to handle pressure situations. We have to improve in all three areas: batting, bowling and fielding and areas like game awareness, thinking ahead of the game, planning can be done but implementing it under pressure has to improve, handling situations and fitness levels. We have to increase all three areas at least by 10% so by a years time it will double. We have to be patient, smart thinking has to come they are not very smart thinkers. There are so many areas we have to improve.Among the areas Devapriya stressed upon was the improved batting. Sri Lanka made totals of 168, 173 and 161 in the first three ODIs against England, unlike in the series against Australia where they passed 150 only once in four matches. This is the first time they have reached totals of 150 plus consistently in a series and in the last match I made a point to give others a chance after talking to the selectors to see how good they are, he said. We have very far to go but one positive thing is the girls are willing and the passion is there. They are eager to learn. I am quite sure in six months they will be on another different level. The results will come gradually.Devapriya had little time to work with the team, considering he was appointed just a few weeks prior to the series. He felt the Asia Cup in Thailand later this month would give him a better idea of where the team stood at Asian level. Among the areas he believes theres bigger scope to improve is in their batting approach.I gave them a singles target, not fours and sixes, he said. The plan was to at least to run 75 to 100 singles, but they couldnt reach that mark. They were always somewhere around 50 singles and we have to avoid a lot of dot balls. In two matches we had more than 200 dot balls, they are very hesitant to leave the crease and come out.I am really working hard on their shots range as well, using their feet to spin and getting onto the back foot for pace. They are committed front foot players and I am developing their back swing. Their bat pick-ups are very poor and generating batting power is the core area. They do a lot of hard work in the gym for their stomach and body but they must learn the art of delivering the power. How much of work you do in the gym the art of delivering the power is something which they dont use.Well-rounded changes to batting technique apart, Devapriya felt translating gym fitness into being an agile fielding unit was equally important. We have to sharpen the fielding also, he said. I am trying to do their physical fitness coupled with fielding. The diving, sliding techniques are poor, sad to say that some girls have been playing for years but they dont know how to slide. The practice systems I have made a lot of changes where everybody gets a batting turn so that when they finish a days practice they will have undergone about 250 different shots. David is an international soccer star who got his start in London, England. Odell Jr. hopes to bend it like his namesake as his team, the New York Giants, crosses the Atlantic to face the Los Angeles Rams, designated the home team.Hopefully, there is enough column space in the United Kingdom tabloids for both Beckhams and their antics. The Rams havent been back in Los Angeles all week but will still be playing a home game this Sunday against the Giants. The game will take place in London, England, and is one of the home games the Rams sacrificed in Los Angeles to expand their brand globally. This is the second of three NFL games that will be played in the United Kingdom in 2016, but the first time in Twickenham Stadium, home of the English rugby team. Both teams enter the matchup 3-3 but with different tastes in their mouths as they travel overseas. The Rams are coming off an embarrassing defensive performance against the Detroit Lions in their 31-28 loss. This once-vaunted defense gave up 10 straight fourth-quarter points after the surprisingly potent offense had spotted them a seven-point lead. The Giants head to England on Thursday riding high on the backs of one of the best offensive performances in 2016 by quarterback Eli Manning and Beckham Jr.Their offensive production led to a 27-23 come-from-behind win over the Baltimore Ravens. In that game, Manning threw for 403 yards and three touchdowns. Beckham Jr. scored two of those touchdowns, including the -winning 66-yarder while pulling in 222 yards receiving, a career high. But his aforementioned antics have drawn the ire of coach Ben McAdoo.Beckham Jr. drew a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty after the winning touchdown grab when he ripped off his helmet in celebration. That penalty didnt end up hurting the Giants, but McAdoo chided his fiery receiver after Beckham compounded his behavior by staging a mock marriage proposal to the kicking net, tthe same one Beckham slammed two weeks before.ddddddddddddHe (Beckham) came up to me right after, we had a discussion. We cant have (penalties), McAdoo said. He knows that and he wanted to fire up our kick coverage team and defense. He knows we cant have it. We need to keep our focus on the ballgame.Manning, Beckham Jr. and the entire Giants offense will be going up against an up-and-down Rams defense that brought their own antics to the end of the game against the Lions. While the Lions were in victory formation, one in which the quarterback simply takes the snap and kneels down, the Rams defensive line fired off the football. This brought negative national attention to the team but had coach Jeff Fisher passing the buck after the game. This approach did not come from the sideline; it was not a call, it was not something that we practiced or that we preached, he said. I think it was a byproduct of frustration. If the games over, the games over, pay respect to your opponent. You guys (the media and fans) dont realize all the stuff that goes on inside, up front between the offensive linemen and the defensive linemen. Well address it and its unlikely that itll happen again. The Rams defense did not get any pressure on Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, and the secondary allowed wide receiver Golden Tate to gain 165 yards. The Los Angeles defensive front could be without Robert Quinn and Michael Brockers against the Giants. The secondary has injuries to cornerbacks Lamarcus Joyner and Trumaine Johnson. That could make for a long day matched up against the Giants high-powered offense. The Rams passing attack was incredible against the Lions, and quarterback Case Keenum had a career day. Keenum threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns, and at one point he completed 19 straight passes. Wide receiver Kenny Britt accounted for seven catches for 136 yards and both of Keenums scores. The Rams need to keep that formula going against a Giants passing defense that is ranked 22nd in the NFL and gives up an average of 266.8 yards per game. OAKLAND, Calif. -- Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson erupted for a career-high 60 points in a 142-106 win over the Indiana Pacers?on Monday night.?The Warriors were up 114-79 with 1:22 left in the third quarter when Thompson departed. His stat line was 21-for-33 from the field, 8-for-14 from 3-point range and 10-for-11 from the free throw line in 29 minutes.Indiana as a team converted only 26 field goals at the end of three quarters at Oracle Arena.I felt like every shot I took was a good shot, Thompson said. Its the way I was playing off of my teammates, too. Its easy to get open looks when youre running off Zaza [Pachulia] and Draymond [Green] all night, and I think it started for me when I got a few layups in the beginning. That always opens up my game, and whenever Im active off the ball, thats when Im at my best.Thompson is the first player in the shot-clock era to score 60 points with fewer than 30 minutes played.Thats a feat that Id put money on to probably never be touched ever again in the history of basketball, teammate Stephen Curry said. Its unbelievable.Thompsons 60 points were the most through three quarters since Kobe Bryant scored 62 in a December 2005 game.Thompsons previous career high was 52 points last season against the Kings, a contest in which he produced an NBA-record 37 third-quarter points while sitting out the fourth due to a rout. After Mondays game, he was asked if he begged coach Steve Kerr to put him back in during fourth-quarter play.I didnt, but its just unfortunate the two times I got my career high, I didnt even play in the fourth quarter, Thompson said in jest. We should keep these games closer next time. But its all good. The sharpshooter scored 40 of his points in the first half, the first player with a 40-point first half since Bryant had 42 points against the Washington Wizards on March 28, 2003.Thompson, 26, also was the first player to score 40 points in any half since Chicago Bulls forward Jimmy Butler registered 40 in the second half on Jan. 3, 2016, at Toronto. And to put his night into perspective, Thompson registered the first 60-point game for the franchise since Rick Barry scored 64 points on March 26, 1974, versus the Portland Trail Blazers.Thompson moving without the ball all evening made life miserable for the Pacers.I dont even know what to say, Kevin Durant said. It was crazy because he probably has the ball in his hand for probably not even two minutes in the whole game. He was catching, shooting, cutting.Thompson said that had he been allowed to sub in one more time, 80 points wasnt out of reach.Maybe. I think I could have, Thompson said. Maybe one day Ill have the opportunity, but 60 in 29 minutes is not too bad. Im satisfied with that.Fans chanted Klay, Klay, Klay during moments when there were breaks in the action. When he departed the game, fans gave him a standing ovation. That was a pretty amazing performance, Kerr said. We know hes capable of that. Everybody around here remembers his 37-point quarter, so it always feels like its a possibility [he can go off]. Justin Lawrence Jersey . Garrett Hampson Jersey . Supported by three-run homers from Jayson Werth and Wilson Ramos, the young right-hander went seven strong innings in the Washington Nationals 8-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night. The Miami Marlins have added to their bullpen again, agreeing to a two-year, $16 million deal with right-hander Brad Ziegler, a source told ESPNs Jim Bowden, confirming a story first reported by Fox Sports.?The moves come on the same day the Marlins officially signed another ex-Boston Red Sox reliever, Junichi Tazawa.?The Red Sox acquired Ziegler in a July 9 trade that sent Single-A pitcher Jose Almonte and Single-A infielder Luis Alejandro Basabe to the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 33 appearances for Boston, Ziegler posted a 1.52 ERA, 31 strikeouts, 11 walks and a career-best 9.4 strikeouts per nine innings.Ziegler, 37, is particularly effective against right-handed hitters because of his dropped-down submarine-style delivery. In 2016, he held righties to a .630 OPS compared to .723 against lefties, which was more or less in line with his career totals (.559 OPS vs. righties, .757 OPS vs. lefties).Ziegler made $5.5 million in 2016, the option year of an original two-year, $10.5 million contract that he signed with Arizona in 2014.Tazawa finalized his $12 million, two-year contract with the Marlins on Friday after passing a physical. The deal came wiith an endorsement from Ichiro Suzuki, the Marlins outfielder and 3,000-hit club member.ddddddddddddWhat was Suzukis scouting report on his fellow native of Japan? That hes a very good pitcher and can help us, president of baseball operations Michael Hill said. He signed off, and that was good to know.Miami swung the deals for the right-handers after falling short in its pursuit of high-priced closers Aroldis Chapman and Kenley Jansen. We know theres competition for players, Hill said. You have a Plan A, but you have a Plan B, C and D to accomplish your goal.A.J. Ramos remains the closer, at least for now, and Tazawa and Ziegler should help compensate for the loss of left-hander Mike Dunn to Colorado in free agency. The Marlins also have acquired starting pitchers Edinson Volquez and Jeff Locke to help compensate for the loss of ace Jose Fernandez, who died in a boat crash in September. They added A.J. Ellis as their backup catcher. ?ESPN Red Sox reporter Scott Lauber and The Associated Press contributed to this report. ' ' '

HOUSTON -- Andre Johnson had the best year of his career last season. But at 32, Johnson knows his window for winning a championship is closing, and he is determined to do even more this season to help the Houston Texans accomplish their goal of reaching the Super Bowl. "I think we have a great shot at doing it, but the main thing is we have to go out and do what we have to do to accomplish that," Johnson said. "Last year, I think we could have put ourselves in a better situation and we didnt take advantage of it. Hopefully, we can get in that same situation and take advantage of it." Johnson had 112 receptions for 1,598 yards -- both career highs -- last season in helping Houston make its second straight playoff appearance. It was the third 1,500-yard season of his 10-year career and a bounce-back year after he played just seven games and finished with a career-worst 492 yards receiving in 2011. Johnson, who was drafted by Houston after its first season, is the longest tenured Texan. He suffered through the lean years and is proud that he has helped transform the Texans into a contender. "I told myself that once I signed here I wasnt going to play for anybody else," he said. "I wanted to be a part of something special. I wanted to help this organization get to the playoffs and I wanted to help them win their first playoff game. I didnt think it would take this long for this to happen, but its a process. We have accomplished some of the goals, but hopefully we can accomplish that ultimate goal." Houston cut veteran receiver Kevin Walter in the off-season, leaving Johnson as Houstons only receiver with more than two years of experience. The Texans drafted DeAndre Hopkins in the first round and expect him to start opposite Johnson. They also are looking for contributions from Keshawn Martin and DeVier Posey, who are entering their second seasons. The makeup of Houstons receiving corps has Johnson adjusting to a different role in the team. "Im not really used to being the old guy," he said. "But Im willing to help them with anything they need to me to help them with." Coach Gary Kubiak said its difficult for him to think of Johnson as old because hes still playing at such a high level. He also noted that Jerry Rice played until he was 42 and Rod Smith was 36 when he finished playing. "I think Dre is getting better," Kubiak said. "The year he had last year and this off-season has been tremendous. I think you cherish, maybe appreciate the time youre playing a little bit more the further you go along because it does go so fast. (Im) just very proud of who he is and what he does. Hes a big leader on the team." Johnson joked about how Hopkins desperately wants to learn from him and is constantly peppering him with qquestions about everything.ddddddddddddHe told a story about Hopkins seeing him in the hot tub one morning and asking him if he did that every morning. Johnson told him yes and was taken aback the next day when he was waiting in the hot tub when he arrived. "Its just little things like that," Johnson said, laughing. "Hes willing to learn. He wants to learn. He wants to know what makes him better and thats a great thing. Thats what I love about him. Hes willing to work and he wants to know how to be great." Hopkins appreciates the knowledge hes gaining from Johnson, but noted that he isnt the only one whos benefiting from his experience. "Hes told me everything that a veteran should tell a rookie," Hopkins said. "Hes paying attention to all the guys out here and helping all of us out. Hes giving all of us great things to work on and telling us what we need to do." Hopkins is the first receiver Houston has drafted in the first round since taking Johnson third overall in 2003. Johnson is excited to play with another top-tier receiver and is also eager to see how the addition of college buddy Ed Reed helps a defence led by last seasons defensive player of the year J.J. Watt. "Since Ive been in the NFL, yeah this is the most weapons weve had," Johnson said. "We have a lot of guys that can go out and make plays for us." Johnson is disappointed by the way Houston finished the season last year. The Texans opened 11-1 before losing three of their last four regular-season games to miss out on getting a bye week and home-field advantage in playoffs. They won their wild-card game against Cincinnati before losing to the Patriots. "At times, maybe we could have been feeling ourselves or something," Johnson said of last season. "I think the game in New England, our last playoff game; it just showed you what kind of team you have to be in order to accomplish that ultimate goal. That was definitely a humbling experience and well be looking forward to the challenge again." NOTES: Watt was limited in practice on Sunday because of a sore left elbow. He doesnt like playing with a brace on it, but said hell begin wearing it in an attempt to limit the soreness. "Its just precaution," he said. "I just want to be smart with it. I put it through a lot of work over the last week. Its done a lot of work without the brace for the first time in a long time, so Im bringing the brace back just as kind of a security measure, to make sure it stays secure and it stays safe." ... RB Arian Foster, who started camp on the physically unable to perform list with a right calf strain, was supposed to start practicing on Sunday. But he continued to sit out because of a sore back. Kubiak said his status is day to day. ' ' '

BOISE, Idaho -- Jeremy McNichols suggested just the play to spark Boise States struggling offense, and then the 15th-ranked Broncos just had to hang on from there.McNichols play resulted in an 80-yard touchdown run to break open a tight game, and Boise State withstood a late rally by Colorado State in a 28-23 win Saturday night.McNichols was untouched on the play, an inside run from a shotgun formation that put the Broncos up 21-3 late in the third quarter. We called the play earlier in the game and I almost broke that one, said McNichols, who rushed for a career-high 217 yards and two touchdowns. So when coach asked me what play to call, I told him we needed to call it again. And he called it.After the Broncos (6-0, 3-0 Mountain West) took a 28-3 lead early in the fourth quarter, Colorado State (3-4, 1-2) recovered two onside kicks in the final 6 minutes while scoring three straight TDs, cutting the deficit to five with 3:35 left. The Broncos recovered Colorado States third onside kick attempt and ran the clock down to 15 seconds before giving the Rams the ball at their own 27. Colorado State advanced the ball to the 40 on a play with multiple laterals, but a review ruled that a forward lateral was made, resulting in a 10-second runoff that ended the game.We came in tonight to make it a fourth quarter game, Colorado State coach Mike Bobo said. It wasnt the kind of fourth quarter game we envisioned, but we did what we had to do to have a chance at the end.The Rams became the first team to take a lead on Boise State this season when Wyatt Bryan kicked a 39-yard field goal with 7:24 remaining in the first quarter. The score snapped Boise States FBS school record of 306:36 without trailing.Colorado State, seeking its first road win of the season, struggled against a stingy defense for most of the game. However, the night belonged to McNichols, who also set career highs in 34 carries and 264 total yards. With Boise States offense sputtering, McNichols scored on runs of 5 and 80 yards to ignite the Broncos. McNichols has three runs of 80 yards or more in his career. That was a fight, Boise State coach Bryan Harsin said. There are certainly things to work on. Its hard to win every single week and come out prepared to win every single week. But Im fired up for our team and how they handled some adversity. Certainly at the end of the game, there are a lot of things we can learn from and coach from.Brett Rypien was 16-of-24 passing for 207 yards and one touchdown. Thomas Sperbeck led Boise States receiving corps with five catches for 72 yards and added an 11-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Richardson.Colorado State quarterback Nick Stevens was 17-of-31 passing for 184 yards and two touchdowns, while Dalyn Dawkins led the Rams on the ground with 66 yards.THE TAKEAWAYColorado State: Despite the loss, the Rams still have a good chance to become bowl eligible with three winnable conference games and a rivalry game with Air Force left on their schedule.Boise State: The Broncos remain in control of the Mountain Division and primed to return to the conference title game for the first time since 2014. However, they have yet to play Wyoming, which is the only other undefeated team in the division.POLL IMPLICATIONSThe Broncos have an opportunity to move up in the AP Top 25 again this week after No. 12 Mississippi lost to 22nd-ranked Arkansas.TIP OF THE CAPLate in the first half, Boise State, which honored the 2007 Fiesta Bowl team before the game, ran the Statue of Liberty, the same play the Broncos ran on the game-winning 2-point conversion to beat Oklahoma, 43-42, in the Fiesta Bowl. However, it didnt go as well, resulting in a 3-yard loss.UP NEXTColorado State: The Rams stay on the road for an afternoon conference tilt with UNLV.Boise State: The Broncos stay home but have a short week to prepare for a Thursday night matchup with nonconference foe BYU. The club will respect my wishes whenever I decide I want to go.Otani went 10-4 as a pitcher and batted .322 with a career-high 22 home runs this season for the Fighters.New rules in MLBs collective bargaining agreement make it more difficult for players like Otani to get paid big bucks right away. But there is a definite curiosity about his abilities, even from those who havent seen him play much.I dont know which side youre worried about more: his ability to pitch or hhit, former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre said.dddddddddddd Hopefully he stays healthy because hes an addition whatever league he winds up with, whether he stays in Japan or comes to the U.S. hes certainly going to be an exciting player for people to look forward to watching.Boston Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski was reluctant to talk about Otani because hes under contract in Japan. But hes intrigued about Otanis ability to pitch and hit.We have reports on him, Dombrowski said. Do I think a player could be a two-way player? Yeah, it could happen. It is very difficult? Yes. But Im not saying that theres not a player out there that cant do that because some of them are rare, rare guys. Babe Ruth could do it. He was pretty good. Snookers governing body is not doing enough to encourage ethnic minorities to take up the sport, the games only black professional player has claimed.World No.52 Rory McLeod hit out at the lack of diversity at an amateur level and accused World Snooker of being more interested in the glamour of major events than growing the sports reach. What World Snooker are bothered about is the prize money and sponsors. That is it, McLeod told the BBC. You need black people in the snooker clubs for starters]Parents are pushing their children towards an education rather than telling them to be a professional snooker player. There is a lot of moving around in snooker, too. You have to travel and stay over at places. If you dont have money for that then you cant do it.There could be a lot more [black players] but the opportunities are not there. Most snooker players have money and support behind them, to have that in the snooker business for black people is not something that exists.McLeod, 45, spent a decade on a secondary tour on which another black player, John Clouden, also appeared in 1994 and 1995, but snooker is yet to see any other black professionals.World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association chairman Jason Ferguson defended his organisations record of promoting the sport and insisted snooker was working hard to improve participation levels outside snookers heartland. We have equal opportunities in the sport and there are no boundaries for participation, he said. If you are good enough, you can make it on the tour.We need to reach out to those areas in the world that we are not yet there. Africa is one of those we are working on right now. Sydney chief executive Andrew Ireland has hailed the news the Swans will play this seasons AFL home finals matches at the SCG, unless they host a derby against cross-town rivals Greater Western Sydney. The Swans were contracted to play home finals matches this year at ANZ Stadium, but the AFL have reached an agreement with the venues management for finals against non-Sydney teams to be played at the SCG.AFL chief Gillon McLachlan said ANZ Stadium management and his organisation agreed it was in the best interests of Swans fans that the club played its finals at the SCG, unless they hosted GWS.ANZ Stadium can accommodate about 35,000 more patrons than the SCG.This is a win-win for both parties, with ANZ Stadium members having access to any Swans final played at the SCG and the Sydney fans being able to see their team play at the venue where they have so far played all matches through the 2016 season, McLachlan said.If the finals fixture produces a head-to-head match between the Swans and the Giants, this would possibly be the biggest game in NSW in the history of our sport and we would play that game at ANZ Stadium. The Swans havent played a finals game at the SCG for 11 years since their dramatic semi-final win over Geelong.Since thenn they have played eight finals matches at ANZ Stadium, winning the first seven before losing to North Melbourne in 2015, though more than half the games drew crowds smaller than the SCGs capacity.ddddddddddddWere really pleased with todays decision to move finals matches to the SCG because we know the preference of our members and supporters is to play finals at our home ground, Ireland said.Sydney have played at least three games a year at ANZ Stadium since 2002.They were scheduled to play three home games there outside finals in 2016, but an agreement was reached earlier in the year to shift those fixtures to the SCG, with ANZ Stadium members getting access to three matches at that venue in each of 2016, 17 and 18.It goes to the heart of our 14-year relationship that ANZ Stadiums valued members will have the opportunity to attend any Sydney Swans Finals matches scheduled at the SCG, ANZ Stadium chief executive officer Daryl Kerry said.He added if there was an all-Sydney final at his stadium, it would be fitting farewell to the code at the venue, which will soon be redeveloped into a rectangular shape. SEATTLE -- For someone who tries to keep everything as even as possible, this week is a major challenge for Washington coach Chris Petersen.Theres no getting around the enormity of the opportunity in front of the 10th-ranked Huskies when they host No. 7 Stanford. After years of reconstructing their program -- first under Steve Sarkisian and now Petersen -- the Huskies (4-0, 1-0 Pac-12) have a chance to prove their top-10 ranking this season is justified and that they are the team to beat in the Pac-12 Conference at this point. Or Friday night could end up exposing Washington as not quite ready to rejoin the college football elite.Either way, its the most significant game in Petersens three seasons and arguably the game with the most at stake for Washington since it last went to the Rose Bowl in 2000.Its a great opportunity for the kids, for everybody playing in a game like this, Petersen said. Its also a historically rare ranked home game for the Huskies. Itll be the fourth all-time meeting of teams ranked in the AP Top 10 in Seattle and the first in 19 years. The last time came in 1997 when No. 7 Nebraska beat No. 2 Washington 27-14.And it comes after Washington barely passed its first real challenge of the season this past weekend at Arizona.Washington survived its trip to the desert, winning in the state of Arizona for the first time in 10 years with a 35-28 overtime win over the Wildcats late Saturday. With a Friday game, everything is condensed this week. The Huskies returned to Seattle around 5 a.m. Sunday, with many watching tape on the flight home. The players came in for practice on Sunday night and practiced Monday -- a normal day off for the team.On top of the condensed week, classes for the Huskies begin Wednesday.Weve been looking at this part of our schedule for a long time, Petersen said. On the road, tough environment, have to come home and play Stanford and then go on the road again. We get the schedule and then we make our schedule and adjust and go.The performance in the desert exposed some of Washingtons flaws that were hidden by a weak nonconference schedule and three blowout victories to open the season. Most notably, the Huskies allowed 308 yards rushing to the Wildcats as they were unable to control the line of scrimmage. Those rushing yards allowed came against Arizonas spread offense. But it raised concern the Huskies wont be any better facing Stanfords power run game and star Christian McCaffrey this week.Hes great with the ball in his hands. Unbelievable vision, extremely explosive and maybe as patient as anybody Ive seen, Petersen said. Whether hes returning kicks or handing the ball in the backfield, those characteristics just show up, and its a unique combination. The biggest positive to come out of the Arizona victory was the emergence of running back Lavon Coleman as a complementary option to Myles Gaskin in the backfield. Coleman rushed for a career-high 181 yards on just 11 carries, surpassing his rushing total from all of last year in one impressive outing. We have a good stable of running backs, and those guys can all make plays, Petersen said. When they get the chance to do it and they make something happen, theyll get more carries. Thats just kind of how we did it. Renault have decided to bring forward the introduction of their new unit by one race after a successful Barcelona test, although they are not yet in a position to fit new engines to all four cars on their roster.Debate over which of Red Bulls drivers would be given the new engine for Monaco swirled over recent days, given Ricciardo is their lead runner in the championship but Verstappen won on his debut for the team last time out in Spain. MINNEAPOLIS -- After his missed extra point and blocked field goal again made him a subject of postgame intrigue following the Minnesota Vikings 22-16 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions?on Sunday, kicker Blair Walsh voiced his exasperation to the reporters at his locker. Its not that Im frustrated with you. Its just, you guys have got to understand, what do you want the answer to be? Walsh said. I want to be there for my team. Of course I want to make it. But come on. You guys ask the same questions every week -- Did you make it? Why didnt it go in? I mean, if I had the answer right away, Id tell you. Im confident in what Im doing. I know that Im going to be fine. But its tough right now.The kickers third-quarter extra point attempt ricocheted off the upright instead of tying the game at 10 in the third quarter, and Walsh had a 46-yard field goal attempt blocked in the fourth quarter with the Vikings down by a point. He has now missed three extra points this season, the most in the NFL. Walsh, who came into the game tied for 18th in the league in field goal percentage, has now made 12 of his 16 field goal attempts this season.Asked to explain what happened on the two misses, Walsh said, They didnt go in, man. I mean, you watched it. When asked if the extra point felt good coming off his foot, Walsh said, I mean, obviously not. It didnt go in, right? I mean, you guys are going to ask me this question a million times. Did it feel good? Did I make it? No, I didnt. Do I have to? Yes. Do I want to? Yes. I mean, if youve got something else, please. Seriously.Later, when asked what he saw on the field goal attempt that Tyrunn Walker blocked, Walsh said. I probably did not hit it well enough. I mean, you can never know until you watch film, but I probably did not hit it well enough, and did not get it over the line. So thats my fault, and I need to come through for my team there. When asked if the kick was too low, Walsh said, Its hard to tell, but that would be my guess. The Vikings were down by four when coach Mike Zimmer decided to go for it on fourth down from the Lions 5 midway through the fourth quarter. Zimmer said he felt like the Vikings offense continues to need confidence as they move forward, and while he said it did factor in that [Walsh] missed an extra point in there, he added, That really wasnt it. ... I was prepared to get a field goal, but it was so close that I figured [Id go for it]. Points for us are hard to come by -- at least they were in the beginning of the ballgame. The Vikings signed Walsh to a four-year contract extension in July 2015, but the kicker struggled at the beginning of the 2015 season before missing a 27-yard field goal attempt at the end of the Vikings NFC wild-card playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The team has continued to stand by Walsh, and players backed the kicker in the locker room Sunday. Asked where he stands now with Walsh, Zimmer said, I dont know. Well see. Im not going to make any evaluations right now. Todays not the day to be making any evaluations. Rawly Eastwick Jersey . RALEIGH, N.C. -- Wake Forests defense has been good enough to give its offense time to figure some things out after a bumpy start. And that has the Demon Deacons heading into Saturdays game with instate rival North Carolina State near the top of their Atlantic Coast Conference division. The Demon Deacons (4-0, 1-0 ACC) enter the game ranked 12th nationally against the run (88.5 yards per game) and 20th in scoring defense (16.5 points). That unit has given up more points each week, though that has coincided with the offense picking up its pace, too, to average nearly 32 points over the past three games. Its been the right balance for Wake Forest, which is going for the programs first 5-0 start in a decade .I dont feel our players have taken this for granted. ... then you combine that with an opponent that they know is really good, coach Dave Clawson said. I feel weve had that one-week mindset and I dont think it is a cliche with this group.I really feel like they enjoy the win, they love that feeling in the locker room and OK, now were on to the next one and make sure we make that same weekly investment. We need to in order to have success. The Wolfpack (2-1, 0-0) had an off week after a home win against Old Dominion . N.C. States new offense installed by former Boise State coordinator Eli Drinkwitz will test Wake Forests defense; N.C. State is 21st nationally in scoring offense (42.3) and 23rd in total offense (497.7).I think at times last year, they got worn down defensively because they didnt score a lot of points and they had a lot of three-and-outs, Wolfpack coach Dave Doeren said. Theyre controlling the ball more on offense, and theyre in the top five in time of possession in our league. That helps your defense.---Here are things to know about Saturdays Wake Forest-N.C. State game:ROAD SUCCESS: Last year N.C. State won at Wake Forest for the first ttime since 2001.dddddddddddd Now Wake Forest will go for its first win in Raleigh since 2006. That would also mark the programs first three-game road winning streak since winning 2007 regular-season finale and then the first two in 2008.RECENT DOMINANCE: N.C. State has won both meetings with Wake Forest since Clawsons been in Winston-Salem. Those wins have come by an average of 23+ points, including last year when the Wolfpack had four touchdowns of at least 50 yards in the opening quarter of a 35-17 win.WOLFORDS JOB AGAIN: Quarterback John Wolford lost his starting job for Week 3 to Kendall Hinton, then got it back when Hinton was injured. He threw for 172 yards and a score to go with 61 yards rushing with two touchdowns on the ground at Indiana.QB ROLES: New N.C. State quarterback Ryan Finley has taken control of the Wolfpacks offense. Hes really accurate -- I mean, he just comes in, he has a good mindset and he prepares really well so Im not surprised by his accuracy, receiver Stephen Louis said of Finleys 76-percent completion rate. But keep an eye on Jalan McClendon, who lost the starting job to Finley in the preseason but played well with increased work in goal-line packages against ODU.GROUND GAMES: The game features two of the ACCs top 10 rushers in N.C. States Matt Dayes (104 per game) and Wake Forests Matt Colburn (74.5). Throw in versatile do-everything threat Jaylen Samuels with the ability to line up all over the Wolfpack formation, and there could be a heavy focus on the ground game for both teams.---AP Sports Writer Joedy McCreary in Winston-Salem contributed to this report.---Follow Aaron Beard on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/aaronbeardap and the APs college football site at http://collegefootball.ap.org ' ' '

PARIS -- A man who jumped onto the court with a fiery flare spurting white smoke briefly interrupted the French Open final on Sunday between Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer. The topless spectator wearing a white mask surged from the crowd near Nadal as the Spanish player was about to serve for the second set, leading 5-1. The man had the words "Kids right" written on his belly. Security personnel bundled the man to the ground and quickly hauled him away. Roland Garros tournament director Gilbert Ysern did not dwell on the matter. "I have no wish to speak about it, quite honestly. The only thing I will (say) is that luckily our security services did a great job," Ysern said. "I dont want to give any additional publicity to these people, who, sadly, have a lack of a respect for sport and sportsmen. Its just pathetic." The centre-court incident was one of several within the space of a few minutes by protesters. Police officials said a total of 12 people had been handed over by tournament security officials for questioning by police, but are not yet under arrest. A guard stood near Nadal, protecting him, while the protester was subdued. Nadal took a couple of steps back to get away from the protester and, once the protester had been wrestled to the ground, shook the guards hand before resuming play. The match was only briefly delayed. Nadal beat David Ferrer 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 to win his eighth French Open title. "I didnt lose my focus," Ferrer said. "Rafael, he was scared a little bit. But nothing happened, so its okay." Just ahead of the on-court protester being carried off, another protester could be seen a row or two back in the stands also being carried off. Stewards also expelled a man and a woman from the Court Philippe Chatrier after they held up a banner that read in French: "Help! France is trampling on childrens rights." Another man and a woman held up a similar banner in English and shouted slogans. "Today was strange," Ferrer said. Five topless protesters also brandishing red flares and wearing white masks climbed to the top of the adjacent Court Suzanne Lenglen and unfurled a banner calling for the resignation of French President Francois Hollande. Christophe Fagniez, the tournaments director of operations, said: "The situation is under control, its in the hands of the police." A male streaker wearing nothing but tennis balls and sneakers ran onto the centre court and hurdled the net during the 2003 final where Juan Carlos Ferrero beat Martin Verkerk. In the 2009 final won by Roger Federer, a man jumped over the photographers pit and ran on the court, went up to the Swiss player and tried to put a red hat on him. Federer brushed the man aside before security guards got close enough to intervene. After hopping the net, the man was tackled and jailed for questioning. The worst incident involving an on-court intruder came in 1993 when a man reached over a courtside railing in Hamburg, Germany, and stabbed top-ranked Monica Seles between the shoulder blades. Seles returned to tennis in 1995, and won the 1996 Australian Open. Jonathan Sanchez Jersey . "It was nerve-wracking, but we pulled through," said Collaros, who threw four touchdown passes to lead the Toronto Argonauts (8-4) to a 33-27 win over the Calgary Stampeders (9-3) in front of 28,781 fans at McMahon Stadium. LAS VEGAS -- And then there were eight ...The Friday Football Showdown at the Golden Nugget is down to the eight quarterfinalists that qualified for its head-to-head playoffs. The contest, which is in its second year of being open to the public, drew a field of 96 entrants at $2,000 apiece. Participants made seven plays per week (NFL and NCAA sides and totals were used) for the first eight weeks and then nine plays each of the last two weeks.RoughRider39, a longtime advantage player and consistent top player in Las Vegas contests, finished with the best record at 50-22-2 (69.4 percent) for 51 contest points, as 1 point is awarded for each win and half a point for each push. FrankyP finished at 49.5 points, followed by @LasVegasCris & The D Las Vegas at 48 and then Hells Kitchen, Anthony Curtis and Mucked Nuts tied for fifth place at 47.5.The eighth spot in the playoffs goes to the winner of what the Golden Nugget called the Wild-Card Chase with the best record in Weeks 9-10. @LasVegasCris went 15-3 and FrankyP was 13-3-2 over the last two weeks, but since they already qualified, the last spot went to BBQ Guy, who went 13-4-1 to just edge out Big Lib (9-0 in Week 9 but only went 4-5 in Week 10 to finish 13-5).Each of the playoff qualifiers earns $3,000 to guarantee they all make a profit for the $192,000 contest, but now their records are wiped clean for the head-to-head matchups that will be held over the next four Fridays (thus the Friday Football Showdown name) on The Las Vegas Sportsline radio show with co-hosts Matt Youmans and Dave Cokin from 2-3 p.m. PT on ESPN AM 1100 here in Vegas and online at lvsportsnetwork.com. All entrants had to agree to appear on the radio show if they made the playoffs or designate a substitute to give out their plays. The only advantage for the top regular-season finishers is they get to choose (in seeding order) which weekend they want to compete. The Golden Nuggets Tony Miller and Aaron Kessler worked Tuesday to contact the qualifiers and here are the quarterfinal matchups:Nov. 18: No. 4 Derek Stevens vs. No. 5 Nancy Clark Nov. 25: No. 1 Randy McKay vs. No. 8 Michael Wright Dec. 2: No. 2 Frank Perez vs. No. 7 Christopher Kozak Dec. 9: No. 3 Cris Zeniuk vs. No. 6 Anthony CurtisThe quarterfinal winners will each win another $2,000 and advance to the semifinals on Dec. 16 and 223.dddddddddddd The championship match is slated for Friday, Dec. 30. The remaining $160,000 is split up with $96,000 to the eventual champion (for a total haul of $101,000), $40,000 to the runner-up, $8,000 each to the semifinal losers and $8,000 to the winner of a bonus mini-contest held in NFL Weeks 15-17 for all contestants (even those eliminated earlier).SuperContest getting crowded at the topBy this time of the NFL season, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperContest usually has one or two players that have pulled away from the field. However, after 10 weeks there are five SuperContestants tied for first place with another nine within one game of the lead.Early-season leader Ripsaw has been able to stick around and is 32-15-3 (68.1 percent) for 33.5 points and tied with Johnny Vegas, Janknation, Mark Davis and Underdobs. Ripsaw was 0-3 this past weekend before winning with Seattle +7.5 on Sunday night and Cincinnati +2 on Monday night to maintain a portion of the lead.A record 1,854 entrants are in the SuperContest this year. They paid $1,500 to enter and make five NFL plays a week against the contest spread while playing for more than $2.5 million in prizes (after an administrative fee of 8 percent was taken out) and a first-place prize of $895,482 with payouts to the top 50.The top five consensus picks went 0-5 last week and are a woeful 15-33-2 (31.3 percent) through 10 weeks. Those plays are often the games that are off by the most points between the time the weekly lines are locked in on Wednesday afternoons and the deadline for picks at 11 a.m. PT Saturday, but those popular plays have been struggling all season. The overall consensus of all Week 10 games was 3-11 ATS (21.4 percent) and is just 63-79-3 (44.4 percent) for the season to date to hold down most records. In fact, the five co-leaders are the only players left that are over the 67-percent threshold that the Westgate splits among those that exceed that mark at the end of the season. Since the explosion of the SuperContest field started in 2011, the bonus has been paid out every year, but that streak is in jeopardy this season. The SuperContest also has a $20,000 mini-contest over the last three weeks on the NFL schedule. ' ' '

MILWAUKEE - Brandon Kintzler was so close to getting out of the eighth inning with the Brewers slim lead intact. Getting that third out against the St. Louis Cardinals, however, was too tough. Matt Carpenter hit an RBI single with two outs in the eighth, putting the Cardinals ahead during a four-run rally Monday night in an 8-5 win over Milwaukee. "We think were in a good position with good pitchers coming in and the next thing you know, they get runs back," Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said. The Cardinals got seven of their 16 hits in the big inning, capped by pinch-hitter David Freeses two-run double. St. Louis won for the ninth time in 11 games. With two outs in the eighth and the Brewers leading 5-4, rookie Kolten Wong keyed the rally with an infield single, ruled safe on a call that the Brewers disputed. "All of a sudden a guy gets an infield hit and here we go again," Kintzler said. "If the call goes the other way, we arent standing here. It can go either way." Pinch-hitters Daniel Descalso and Matt Adams, Carpenter and Carlos Beltran followed with four consecutive singles. Kintzler (3-1) was removed with the Brewers trailing 6-5. Freese then hit the first pitch from Burke Badenhop for a two-run double that made it 8-5. Kintzler said he thought Wong was out at first. "I was standing right there, and I thought he was out," Kintzler said. "But from his (umpire Marty Fosters) angle — its a short hop — its a tough call from his angle. I have a better angle. If you slow it down on replay, you have to really slow it down. Its a tough play. From his angle, its tough." Carlos Beltran and Jon Jay homered for St. Louis and Yadier Molina had four hits. Aramis Ramirez snapped a 1-for-18 skid since returning from the disabled list Aug. 13 with a two-run homer off Michael Wacha (2-0) in the seventh to give the Brewers a 5-4 lead. Kintzler gave up four runs and six hits while getting just two outs. Edward Mujica, who was unavailable during the weekend series at the Chicago Cubs because of a tired arm, pitched the ninth for his 32nd save in 34 chances. The Brewers had two runners on in the ninth but Scooter Gennett grounded out to end the game. Norichika Aoki hit his seventh homer for Milwaukee. Milwaukee starter Marco Estrada allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out four in six innings. Jays two-run homer off Estrada in the sixth snapped a 2-2 tie. It was his seventh homer this year and second in two days after hitting a three-run shot in St. Louis 6-1 win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. Estrada said he threw a curveball - a pitch he didnt want to throw - to Jay. "Its not frustrating to give up runs, its going to happen, but its frustrating that I threw pitches I didnt want to throw," he said. "I second-guessed myself and I got beat really bad on the one to Jay. I threw a pitch I didnt want to throw. There was no conviction behind it. I made the pitch and I got hurt." Beltran snapped an 0-for-7 skid with his 21st home run in the first. He had three hits.
