CHICAGO - The Minnesota Wild entered this Western Conference second round battle as considerable underdogs to the Chicago Blackhawks, but they have a chance to grab a series lead over the defending Stanley Cup champions in tonights Game 5 showdown in the Windy City. You can watch all the action on TSN and TSN GO beginning at 8:30pm et/5:30pm pt. Minnesota dropped the first two tests of this best-of-seven set at Chicagos United Center and was outscored by a combined 9-3 margin in those setbacks. However, the Wild righted themselves at home by taking Game 3 by a 4-0 count before knotting the series at two games apiece with Fridays 4-2 triumph at Xcel Energy Center. In order to grab their first lead of the series, however, the Wild will have to be the first team to beat Chicago on home ice in this postseason. The Blackhawks, winners of two Cup titles in the previous four years, are 5-0 at the United Center in the 2014 playoffs and boast a 16-2 record at home since the start of last springs postseason. Chicago will aim for a seventh consecutive home playoff victory on Sunday night. Minnesota is just 1-5 as the road team in the 2014 playoffs, with its lone away victory coming in Game 7 of the opening round against Colorado. The Wild are 2-15 over their past 17 road tilts in the postseason. On Friday, Matt Cooke provided an immediate spark in his return from a suspension to help the Wild remained undefeated at home in these playoffs. Cooke received a seven-game ban for kneeing Colorado Avalanche defenseman Tyson Barrie in Game 3 of the opening round, and he didnt take long to make his presence felt, helping give Minnesota an early lead. The antagonizing forward stole the puck from Chicago defenseman Michal Rozsival on the forecheck and dished to Justin Fontaine, who went top shelf to beat Crawford from the right circle 7:24 into the game. It was the first career playoff goal for Fontaine. "Its fun to contribute and its fun to chip in. Its just fun to be back out there again," Cooke said. "I should have fresh legs. Ive got to go out there and lead the way and hopefully my energy is contagious." In addition to the assist, Cooke also registered two shots on goal and delivered five hits in nearly 16 minutes of ice time. Jason Pominville, Nino Niederreiter and Jared Spurgeon supplied the other goals for the Wild, who have outscored the opposition 16-5 while winning all five games at Xcel Energy Center. Ilya Bryzgalov made 18 saves to help the Wild even the series. Patrick Sharp and Michal Handzus each had goals for Chicago, while Corey Crawford stopped 27 shots in the setback. "They worked for everything they got and we got to do the same," said Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews. While Cooke returned from a suspension to make in impact in Game 4, the Blackhawks lost forward Brandon Bollig for two games due to a boarding incident in Fridays contest. The NHL handed Bollig a two-game suspension for his hit from behind on Minnesota defenseman Keith Ballard late in the second period. Bollig was assessed with a minor penalty on the play, while Ballard was injured an did not return to the game. Ballard has endured a history of concussions, the latest of which cost him seven games early in the regular season. He had returned to the lineup in Game 3 after missing the final 14 games of the regular season and nine postseason tilts with a pulled groin muscle. Both Ballard and forward Matt Moulson, who sat out Game 4 due to a lower-body injury, did not make the trip to Chicago for tonights game. In addition to Bollig, Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw missed a third straight game with a lower-body injury he suffered in the series opener and expects to sit out again on Sunday. The winner of tonights contest will get a chance to end the series when the clubs meet in Minnesota for Game 6 on Tuesday. Custom Miami Dolphins Jerseys . MINNEAPOLIS -- Yu Darvish showed up to the ballpark on Wednesday with his stiff neck feeling much better, and the Texas Rangers were able to breathe a sigh of relief knowing their Japanese ace wont have to join a long list of teammates on the disabled list. Darvish was scratched from his start on Tuesday night because of that neck discomfort, but Rangers manager Ron Washington said before a game against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday that the right-hander will start at Washington on Sunday. Darvish had an MRI on Tuesday that showed there was nothing to be concerned about and he was able to get through a workout at Target Field on Wednesday with no issues. Washington chose to just skip Darvishs turn in the rotation rather than bump him back a day or two to make sure that Darvish is as close to 100 per cent as possible before he returns to the mound. "One thing about Yu Darvish, if he wont be 100 per cent, hell let us know," Washington said. Darvish is 4-2 with a 2.35 ERA, the fourth-best in the league and has 71 strikeouts in 61 1-3 innings. Darvish didnt pitch for three weeks in spring training because oof a stiff neck, a condition that pushed back his first start of this season to April 6.dddddddddddd Washington said he wasnt sure what caused the neck pain this time, but he wasnt concerned about it becoming a nagging injury. "Yu Darvish is a different animal," Washington said. "He just doesnt want to have any reason why he doesnt feel well. So if he doesnt feel right ... wed much rather know hes OK. We dont want him worrying about it. So well hold him back until Sunday." Outfielder Daniel Robertson is also ready to go after a scary collision last week with Alex Rios and suffering an injury to the bone around his left eye. Robertson has been outfitted with a clear mask -- much like the ones NBA players wear when they break their noses -- that he will wear in the outfield to protect himself from further injury. He will have to wear the mask for four to six weeks and will use a modified batting helmet that protects the area when hes at the plate. "Its weird wearing it. Its frustrating wearing it," Robertson said. "But for the most part, there is no limitation." NEW YORK -- Entering a big league ballpark will be a bit like going through an airport by 2015. Major League Baseball has told its 30 teams they must implement security screening for fans by then, either with hand-held metal detection or walk-through magnetometers. "This procedure, which results from MLBs continuing work with the Department of Homeland Security to standardize security practices across the game, will be in addition to bag checks that are now uniform throughout MLB," baseball spokesman Michael Teevan said Tuesday. The Seattle Mariners announced Tuesday that fans entering Safeco Field will have to walk through metal detectors starting with this years opener. Boston, the New York Mets, Oakland, Pittsburgh and San Francisco were among the teams that experimented with screening at times last year. Security gained more intense focus after three people were killed and more than 260 wounded in when two bombs were set off at the Boston Marathon finish line. "We conducted testing of these measures at the All-Star game and at both World Series venues last year, and we were pleased that it was effective and received without issue from fans," Teevan said. MLB is being assisted by CEIA USA Ltd., which manufactures walk-through metal detectors, and the security company GSIS. Big league teams have generally limited bags that fans bring to 16 inches by 16 inches by 8 inches. In an effort to increase security this season, the NFL limited the size and type of bags fans can bring to games. With the exception of medically necessary items, only clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags no larger than 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches have been allowed. One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags also were permitted along with clear plastic bags approximately the size of someones hand. Charles Barkley Jersey . PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Lance Moore thought his playing career might be over in the fall of 2005. A training camp in Cleveland came and went without the undersized wide receiver earning a spot on the 53-man roster. The finish line wasnt in sight, but the horizon was approaching. Then the phone rang. The rebuilding New Orleans Saints had an open spot on the practice squad and a need for playmakers, even if the 5-foot-9 Moore didnt exactly fit the mould. They gave me a chance when nobody was really giving me a chance, Moore said. The marriage lasted nearly a decade. Moore repaid New Orleans confidence with nine productive seasons, catching 346 passes — the fifth-most in team history — while helping the beleaguered franchise to its only Super Bowl title.Moore never wanted to leave. Yet he understands the reality. After injuries slowed him in 2013, Moore knew his $2.5 million salary was a luxury the Saints no longer wanted to afford. When the phone rang to say goodbye, Moore didnt complain. How could he have known back in 2005 hed stick around this long?I have a special place in my heart for that organization, Moore said. Things didnt end there the way I wanted to but its a business first and foremost and I understand that. I definitely have love for them.Moore has to push that fondness off to the side on Sunday when the enigmatic Saints (4-7) visit Moore and the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-4), who scooped up the 31-year-old veteran two weeks after New Orleans let him go. Though Moore is on pace for the fewest receptions in a season since he became a regular in 2007 — hes won over his new teammates with his attention to detail. He can do a little bit of everything, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said.Originally slated to take over the slot position left by the departure of Jerricho Cotchery, Moore has found himself as the football equivalent of duct tape. If theres a need on a given play, the Steelers will find a way to make him fit.Hes a low maintenance guy, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. Hes extremely professional. Hes smart. He comes with good ideas. He knows all of the positions. Hes very versatile in that way and weve had to utilize him in that way because he is playing with some young people.Moore is less vital part than accessory these days, but he can live with the trade-off. Pittsburgh is winning, which is the main reason he chose to sign a two-year deal with the Steelers in March. His numbers might have been better somewhere else, but hes long since passed the time where ego played a factor in his decision-making.Mention to Moore the Saints have struggled without him and he offers a quick correction. Its not all about me, he said. I wasnt the only guy that was there last year that is not there this year. Theres a bunch of guys that arent there. I never wish a lack of success on them. Theres a lot of my friends there. I want to see them do well.Just not on Sunday. Moore spent the early part of the week giving the Steeler wide receivers a thorough rundown of the leaky New Orleans secondary, which is 27th in the league against the pass. Tomlin called Moore a minor resource, which may be understating it a bit. Moore caught hundreds of passes from Drew Brees, probing defences for soft spots and finding ways to fit into tight spaces. While Moore doesnt know the Saints offence as well as Brees, the gap is narrower than most think. He was extremely intelligent, great football I.Q., Brees said. Just so smooth. Just knew how it was supposed to look, knew how it was supposed to feel. The fit hasnt been quite as snug in Pittsburgh. Moore dealt with a balky hamstring at the end of training camp and lost the starting slot receiver job to Justin Brown. He scored a meaningless touchdown in a loss to Cleveland but added an important 3-yard score in a Monday night victory over Houston that kickstarted the Steelers current 4-1 stretch.Moore admits he has no clue how hell be used during a given week. The emergence of rookie Martavis Bryant has further jumbled an already crowded picture. The competitor in Moore wants to be on the field. The realist knows its out of his reliable hands. In a way, Moore is back where he started. He was a graduate assistant at Toledo when the Saints reached out back in 2005. Hes taken on a similar role for receiving group where hes the elder statesmen. Hes fine with the arrangement so long as Sunday ends with the Steelers inching closer to their first playoff berth in three years.I want to win, Moore said. Im not going to try to be Superman on Sunday, nor should anybody else.NOTES: Bryant (illness) did not practice on Wednesday. ... Roy Oswalt retired from baseball on Tuesday after winning 163 games and making three All-Star teams in 13 major league seasons. The pitchers agent, Bob Garber, confirmed the decision and said Oswalt would go to work for his agency, RMG Baseball. Oswalt will be vice-president of baseball operations. "Roy is now going to be representing players with me," Garber said Tuesday night. "Hes now an agent." The 36-year-old right-hander had a 163-102 career record with a 3.36 ERA. Oswalt won 20 games in consecutive seasons (2004-05) with the Houston Astros and was the 2005 NL championship series MVP. He pitched more than 200 innings seven times but was hampered by injuries in recent years. "He was a tremendous competitor," Giants right-hander Matt Cain said. "He was one of the guys I always loved to watch pitch. I remember facing him for the first time and I knew if I gave up more than a couple runs that it wasnt going to be a good day for us. He went about his business every fifth day like a true pro." Oswalt got hurt with Houston on June 11, 2003, when he and five other pitchers combined to no-hit the New York Yankees in an 8-0 victory in the Bronx. It was the only six-pitcher no-hitter until Seattle did the same thing against the Dodgers on June 8, 2012. Oswalt strained his right groin and left in the second. He looked toward catcher Brad Ausmus after his second pitch of the inning, his 23rd of the game, and immediately was replaced. The Yankees had gone 6,980 games -- the longest streak in major league history -- without being no-hit, since Hoyt Wilhelms 1-0 victory for Baltimore on Sept. 20, 1958. Oswalt was 0-6 with an 8.63 ERA in nine outings and six starts for Colorado last year. He signed a minor league deal with the Rockies in May 2013 and missed time with a strained left hamstring. Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington was thrilled to acquire Oswalt in the middle of the 2012 season, when he went 4-3 with a 5.80 ERA in 17 appearances with nine starts. He joined the Rangers on June 22, 2012, but didnt know if the team just planned to trade him away. Washington often said Oswalt "has been a pro" in handling a tough, unclear situation that called for him to be used primarily out of the bullpen. That was after Oswalt spent two stints on the disabled list during 2011 with Philadelphia because of lower back inflammation. He went 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA in 23 starts for the Phillies that year, and his 139 innings were his fewest since 2003. He didnt go more than 59 innings in his last two years. A 23rd-round pick by Houston in the 1996 amateur draft, Oswalt pitched his first nine-plus seasons for the Astros (2001-10) and then played for Philadelphia (2010-11), Texas (2012) and the Rockies (2013). On Aug. 25, 2010, Oswalt became the first Phillies pitcher to play a position in the field in 39 years after Ryan Howard was ejected in the 14th inning of a 4-2, 16-inning home loss to the Astros. With the Phillies out of position players, Oswalt went to left field and Raul Ibanez took over at first for Howard. Oswalt drew a rousing ovation from the crowd when he caught a routine fly ball. He was the first Philadelphia pitcher to play a position since Bill Wilson on Aug. 6, 1971. DALLAS -- The Dallas Mavericks have signed free agent forward Richard Jefferson as a possible replacement for Vince Carter off the bench. Terms of the contract announced Monday werent released, but it is reportedly a one-year deal for the veteran minimum of $1.4 million. Bumgarner (13-8) beat the Mets again, running his record to 3-0 in five games against them and giving the Giants their third win in 10 games. Brandon Belt and Buster Posey also went deep for the Giants. The left-hander struck out 10 and walked one in his second career shutout (the other was a one-hitter in 2012 against the Reds), wrapping up Sundays gem with a punch out of pinch-hitter Travis dArnaud to wrap up the game in a tidy 94 pitches. Mets starter Bartolo Colon (10-9) was going for win No. 200, but the Giants got to him with a couple of home runs that barely cleared the wall before he started to look eminently hittable in the three-run fifth inning. Pences two-run shot in the third was a line drive that went off the railing above the moved-in fence in left field. Brandon Belt hit a towering fly to right that tucked in just over the fence and inside the pole there for a 3-0 lead. TURIN, Italy -- Spanish forward Alvaro Morata has completed a (euro)20 million ($27 million) transfer from Real Madrid to Juventus. Juventus announced details of the deal Saturday, saying that Morata signed a five-year contract with the club. The deal also includes an option for Madrid to buy Morata back for up to (euro)30 million ($40.6 million) after either the 2015-16 or 2016-17 seasons -- with the buy-back price determined by how many matches Morata plays. The 21-year-old Morata scored 10 goals in 37 league appearances for Madrid in the past four seasons. At Juve, Morata could be a second option in attack behind Carlos Tevez and fellow Spaniard Fernando Llorente. Days after Massimiliano Allegri replaced Antonio Conte as coach, Juventus has also expressed interest in signing Argentine midfielder Roberto Peyrera from Udinese. Sean Davis Steelers Jersey . OAKLAND, Calif. -- Stephen Curry had 25 points and eight assists, helping Golden State build a 19-point first-quarter lead before sitting out the final 12 minutes of the Warriors 113-95 win over the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night. David Lee added 17 points and nine rebounds, while Klay Thompson had 14 points for the Warriors, who have won five straight over the Pistons. Curry scored 12 points as part of a 19-4 run in the third quarter then sat out the entire fourth quarter when Golden State coach Mark Jackson emptied his bench. Detroits Andre Drummond had 16 points and 14 rebounds for his second straight double-double and fourth in seven games. The Warriors had lost the final two games on their recent road trip before opening a three-game home stand by blowing out the Pistons. Golden State led by as many as 29 points, shot 60 per cent for the game and outrebounded Detroit 43-34. That helped offset 23 turnovers, 22 of them over the final three quarters. The Pistons did a better job protecting the ball than the Warriors, but went just 3 of 18 from beyond the arc and lost their fourth straight and fifth in six games. Golden State jumped on Detroit early. Lee made his first four shots and Thompson and Curry added seven points apiece, while Jermaine ONeal scored on back-to-back trips down the court to give the Warriors a 35-16 lead to end the first quarter. The Pistons, coming off a loss in Portland on Monday, looked sluggish most of the evening and trailed by double digits the rest of the way. A driving layup by Andrew Bogut made it 54-35, and Lee took a behind-the-back pass from Andre Iguodala and dunked to push the Warriors lead to 21. Lee also scored on a putback with 5 seconds remaining to make it 62-41 at halftime. Thompson opened the second half with 3-pointer before the Pistons went on an 11-2 run to cut the gap to 67-52. Currys jumper from just inside the 3-point line stopped the slide and Thompson followed with a layup. Curry was just getting started. He scored 12 points as part of a 19-5 run midway through the third quarter, including a reverse layup after a 360-degree spin around Greg Monroe at the top of the key. Curry later capped the run with an assist to Harrison Barnes, whose dunk increased the Warriors lead to 86-57. Detroit pulled within 13 in the fourth quarter against mostly reserves but couldnt get any closer. Monroe had 15 points for the Pistons and reserve Will Bynum had 14. ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders got some good news in free agency Thursday, one day after voiding top target Rodger Saffolds contract because of a bad shoulder. The Raiders signed defensive end Justin Tuck and linebacker LaMarr Woodley to two-year deals in an effort to bolster their pass rush. ESPN reported that Tuck will be paid $11 million and Woodleys deal is worth up to $12 million. The two pass rushers have combined for 117.5 career sacks, reached double figures in a season seven times and have won three Super Bowl titles in their careers. Tuck joins the Raiders following nine seasons with the New York Giants during which he helped the team win two Super Bowl titles. Tuck has made two Pro Bowls and has 60.5 career sacks, 20 forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries in 127 career games with New York. "Last week, I absolutely did not see it coming," Tuck said. "It wasnt necessarily on my radar at that point in time, but everything accelerated pretty quickly, and Im excited. I really am. I like the direction that this team is talking about going in, and I just want to be a part of it." Woodley, 29, had 57 sacks in seven seasons in Pittsburgh and helped the Steelers win it all following the 2008 season. Woodley struggled with injuries the past three seasons but was still an effective rusher when healthy. He ended last season on injured reserve with a calf injury and the Steelers released him because of his high salary. After averaging 11 sacks per season from 2008-11, Woodley has only nine sacks in 24 games the past two years. He did have eight quarterback hits and 24 hurries and was one of the most efficient pass rushers last season, according to Pro Football Focus. Woodley played linebacker in Pittsburghs 3-4 defence but is also able to play defensive end in Oaklands four-man front. The Raiders need help on their pass rush after losing last years leading sacker and most consistent defender, LaMarr Houston, to Chicago in free agency. The other three starting defensive linemen -- Pat Sims, Vance Walker and Jason Hunter -- are also free agents. Tuck, who turns 31 this month, was rated as the ninth best pass rushing defensive eend by Pro Football Focus last season when he had 11 sacks, 12 quarterback hits and 44 hurries.dddddddddddd Oakland has not had a player reach double figures in sacks since Derrick Burgess and Warren Sapp both did it in 2006. "Everyone talks about once you turn 30, its all downhill," Tuck said. "I dont believe in that. I dont look at myself in that regard. I feel like I have a lot of great football left in me." The Raiders have now made three free-agent additions this week, having previously signed right tackle Austin Howard to a five-year, $30 million deal. Running back Darren McFadden also agreed to re-sign with the Raiders on a one-year deal worth up to $4 million. Saffold was expected to be in the mix before the Raiders were scared off because of a shoulder injury and voided the five-year, $42.5 million contract that included $21.5 million in guarantees. Howard and Saffold were supposed to help anchor a rebuilt offensive line but now Oakland still needs to look for a left tackle to replace the departed Jared Veldheer. "We were excited about maybe getting the chance to play together," Howard said. "But thats the way this business works. Hes a tremendous guy, a tremendous athlete. I believe he really would have fit in well here and we would have been really excited to play together. Thats how it goes. Its very unfortunate." Oakland was burned last off-season by the acquisition of two players with existing injuries. Quarterback Matt Flynn was acquired despite a shoulder injury and he lacked arm strength before being released early in the season. Oakland used a first-round pick on cornerback D.J. Hayden, who had a near-fatal heart injury in college. Hayden missed the entire off-season and was limited in training camp because of the injury and struggled his rookie year before a sports hernia injury sidelined him for the season in November. The Raiders could fill the left tackle void with last years second-round pick, Menelik Watson, who played sparingly as a rookie because of injuries, a draft pick or with a second-tier free agent after most of the top available left tackles have signed elsewhere. Chelsea will look to salvage some pride from their season when they meet Tottenham on Monday Night Football, live on Sky Sports. Ahead of their clash, we look back to the Blues win against Spurs in February 1994, in one of the most entertaining encounters of the 1993/94 Premier League campaign.Although both teams finished in the bottom half - 14th and 15th respectively - the match still had all the drama and passion attached to a London derby. Spurs were 2-0 up within 18 minutes, thanks to goals from Steve Sedgley and Jason Dozzell. Chelseas first came from an unlikely scorer, when 36-year-old left-back Mal Donaghy found the net, before Mark Stein followed up with the equaliser and John Spencer smashed home a third before the half. Chelsea drew 0-0 at White Hart Lane in this seasons return fixture The second half proved just as lively, as Chelsea conceded a penalty with just 20 minutes to go, with substitute Andy Gray drawing the away side level.Just moments later, Tottenham were awarded another penalty, but this time Grays effort was saved by Dmitri Kharine. In the final minute of normal time, it was Chelseas turn to win a penalty, which was put away by Stein to give the home side a late victory.Watch the video above for a look back through the highlights of a Premier League classic! Not so much for Jeff Teague and the Atlanta Hawks. Hinrich buried six big free throws down the stretch and Teague had a couple of costly turnovers as the Bulls held on for a 107-103 victory at Atlanta on Tuesday night. Mike Dunleavy scored 22 points for the Bulls, who have won six of seven. Joakim Noah had 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Carlos Boozer finished with 17 points and 11 boards. Dunleavy also had eight rebounds and four assists. He was covered in ice bags as he sat slumped at his locker after playing all but nine seconds in the game. "I appreciate (coach Tom Thibodeau) giving me that nine-second breather at the end of the half," Dunleavy said with a laugh. "That made a big difference." The Bulls won after trailing by 14 points in the first quarter. "They put us in a hole; we fought out of it," Dunleavy said. "We just had to battle the whole game." Since Jan. 1, Chicago is 12-1 when holding its opponent under 90 points. No other team in the league has kept as many opponents under 90 in that span. Teague had 26 points for the short-handed Hawks, who have lost nine of 10. Shelvin Mack scored 17. The Bulls led most of the second half but never pushed the advantage to double figures. "I think they really wanted that game today," Noah said of the Hawks. "We really wanted that game, too. It wasnt pretty at times. Im just happy we were able to come out with the win." DeMarre Carrolls fast-break basket gave Atlanta a 100-99 lead, but Dunleavy answered with a layup. With 1:03 remaining, Carroll sank a 3-pointer to give Atlanta a 103-101 lead. With 43.2 seconds remaining, officials reviewed and confirmed a questionable foul called on Carroll on Hinrichs 3-point attempt. Hinrich made the three free throws to put Chicago in front again. Noahs steal from Teague got the ball back for the Bulls with 20 seconds remaining. Atlantas Kyle Korver stole the inbounds pass, giving the Hawks a chance to take the lead, but Teague stepped ouut of bounds behind the basket.dddddddddddd Hinrich then made two free throws. Noah stripped Mike Scott of the ball on Atlantas next possession, setting up another foul shot by Hinrich. Coach Mike Budenholzer and the Hawks argued that Noah fouled Scott. "Do I think he was fouled?" Budenholzer asked after the game. "I just looked at it, and yes I do." Scott said Noah hit his arm but added "Cant do nothing about it now." Budenholzer also protested Carrolls foul on Hinrich but said after watching the replay he agreed with that call. Hawks All-Star forward Paul Millsap missed his second straight game with a right knee contusion and also will be held out on Thursday at Boston. The Hawks also were without centres Pero Antic (stress fracture, right ankle) and Gustavo Ayon (right shoulder), who had filled in following Al Horfords season-ending torn pectoral muscle. Budenholzer said morale isnt a problem. "I thought our group competed at a very high level for 48 minutes tonight," Budenholzer said. "Thats what were looking for, and thats what is most important to us." Korver hit 3-pointers on Atlantas first two possessions, extending his NBA record to 125 straight games with a 3. Korver added a third trey a couple minutes later, and his strong start seemed to spark the Hawks, who jumped to a 26-12 lead. Chicago closed the deficit with a 13-2 run in the final minutes of the opening period and start of the second quarter. The Bulls led 54-51 at halftime. Mack sank a short jumper with about 2 seconds remaining in the third period. D.J. Augustin, who had 10 points, then banked in a half-court shot for Chicago, lifting the Bulls to an 80-75 lead heading to the final period. EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with defenceman Jeff Petry on a one-year contract. The Ann Arbor, Mich., native has represented his country several times internationally, most recently at the 2014 World Hockey Championship, where he had four assists in eight games. But its hard after Buffalo Sabres games.Whenever the Sabres lose, my Twitter just kind of blows up with fans kind of talking about me and stuff like that, McDavid said.It goes beyond social media. Some fans have already had McDavid 97 Sabres jerseys made up and wear them to games that hes not even eligible to play in.Buffalo is tied for the fewest points in the NHL through six games and has been outshot 227-141. With the team in full rebuild mode and no expectation for success this season, some fans are on board with the idea of tanking for the No. 1 pick in Junes draft.Even with a draft lottery system in place that discourages tanking, former Sabres defenceman and current Erie Otters assistant Jay McKee understands why those looking at the long-term picture are willing to cheer for losing to get an opportunity to pick McDavid. They should want to get Connor McDavid, the fans here in Buffalo, McKee said. But obviously in order to have a chance at drafting Connor, theyre probably going to have to have a bad year again. And as a fan, as a player, thats not necessarily what you want, so its kind of a double-edged sword. On Wednesday night, McDavid had a goal and three assists in his first game at First Niagara Center, which could be his home rink in less than a year. In something of a novelty regular-season Ontario Hockey League game, McDavid and the Otters were in town to play the Niagara IceDogs. Its the second time Buffalo has been the stage for top 2015 draft picks. This arena also hosted the USA Hockey prospects game, and potential Nos. 2 and 3 picks Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin, in September. For Erie, the game is a nice bit of exposure, and coach Kris Knoblauch said its a chance to break up the monotony of the season. For McDavid, its a potential preview of his future. On the concourse, McDavid Otters shirts and jerseys are mixed in with Sabres gear. The colours are similar, and the connection is undeniable.Collin Kuznik of Buffalo proudly wore his customized McDavid Sabres jersey to the Otters-IceDogs game on Wednesday night. He said fellow Sabres fans praise him when he wears it to NHL games, too.I just got the Sabres McDavid jersey because I figured the Sabres shot at him is pretty high this year, Kuznik said. (Fans) cheer for the Sabres but after every loss they go, At least we can get McDavid.Standing at a lectern Tuesday afternoon with a Sabres logo on it, McDavid said it was pretty weird to think about fans in Buffalo already getting his name stitched on jerseys. The 17-year-old, whos considered The Next One after Wayne Gretzky and Sidney Crosby, insisted hes not thinking much about the possibility that this is the first of many times hell step onto the ice here.Maybe a little bit, McDavid said. If Buffalo happens to be the one that drafts me, thatll be great and Ill be thrilled. Its the NHL. You kind of go where youre picked. Every NHL city and organizatiion is first-class.dddddddddddd. Buffalo would be obviously a tremendous honour.McKee played a season with Crosby and has drawn parallels between the Pittsburgh Penguins captain and Eries younger playmaking centre with the indescribable vision. On Tuesday, he said McDavid has the potential to be among the greatest players to play the game. With those expectations, its no wonder Sabres fans have their focus on McDavid instead of the likes of Cody Hodgson, Chris Stewart and off-season additions like Matt Moulson, Josh Gorges and Brian Gionta.Do you want to win? Do you want to have a draft pick? If you want to get a chance to get Connor McDavid, youre going to have to finish real low in the standings, McKee said. I understand the fans and their desire and for having Connor — they should have that desire. Its just a tough situation. You dont want your home team to lose, but you do want a good draft pick.Over the past three drafts, the Sabres have had five picks within the top 20: centre Sam Reinhart second overall this year, defencemen Rasmus Ristolainen eighth and Nikita Zadorov 16th in 2013 and forwards Mikhail Grigorenko 12th and Zemgus Girgensons 14th in 2012.Those players so far have combined for 37 points in 171 games, and Girgensons has 24 of them in 76 games. You build up all those first-round draft picks that are 10th or lower in selection and youve got a pretty good recipe of building a Stanley Cup team in the future, in four or five years or so, McKee said.No ones giving up on those young and still-developing players, but adding McDavid to the mix would change the whole landscape. Even though he believes hes no lock to make Canadas world junior team this year, the Newmarket, Ont., native leads the OHL in scoring with 32 points through 11 games.McKee called McDavid a generational player.Draft picks from 1 to 10, usually the players will have a great shot or great speed or work their tail off, theres something to high draft picks that are special about all those players, McKee said. He has all those abilities in one person. While Eichel, a centre playing for Boston University is in the discussion, it would be hard to imagine an NHL team with the first pick passing on McDavid. To no ones surprise the Otters are some of McDavids biggest supporters.Ive had a lot of players with a lot of ability that I wish had more character, and Ive had a lot of players with a lot of character I wish had more ability, Erie general manager Sherry Bassin said. Put them both together, you get a star, and weve got a few of them and hes our leader.Having seen McDavids development up close, McKee considers his play amazing. And hes not surprised that fans of many NHL teams want him.Its pretty unique because you dont find players of his capability very often, McKee said. Its not every year in the draft that you can find a guy like that, and I think this year is a special year.---Follow @SWhyno on TwitterNote to readers: This is a corrected story. LOS ANGELES -- Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson are among the few Los Angeles Kings who dont have a Stanley Cup ring from two years ago. Jeff Carter is grateful the youngsters are carrying him along on their own Cup chase after their line came up with another monster game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Carter had a goal and two assists, Toffoli scored the tiebreaking goal late in the second period, and the Kings beat Chicago 4-3 on Saturday night to take a 2-1 lead in the Western Conference finals. Drew Doughty had a third-period goal and an assist, and Jonathan Quick made 24 saves as the Kings returned to Staples Center with an impressive two-way effort against the defending Stanley Cup champions. "Im having so much fun with these guys," said Toffoli, who has scored a goal in every game of the conference finals. "Getting to play with a guy like Carter is a great opportunity, and (Pearson) and me are trying to live up to him." Game 4 is Monday night at Staples Center. Three days after Carter had four points in the third period of Game 2, Los Angeles got another dominant effort from the line centred by the veteran goal-scorer. In a 6:11 span of the second period of Game 3, Carter scored the tying goal off Pearsons pass before setting up the go-ahead score by Toffoli, who has a goal in every game of the conference finals. "They have a lot of chemistry from playing together" in the minors, Carter said. "They use their speed and their skill to create opportunities, and they kind of drag me along with them, so its fun." Toffoli and Pearson still hadnt cracked Los Angeles lineup in 2012 when the eighth-seeded Kings won the title. Toffoli became a regular for last seasons run to the conference finals, while Pearson made his NHL debut in a playoff game last spring. Theyve both become key components of the Kings four-line offensive attack. Slava Voynov also scored an early power-play goal as the Kings moved halfway to their second Stanley Cup final in three years. Captain Jonathan Toews scored twice in the first period for the Blackhawks, but they didnt score again until Patrick Sharps goal with 5 seconds left. Corey Crawford stopped 28 shots for the Blackhawks, who have lost the first road game in 10 consecutive playoff series since 2010. "Once they got the lead, they seemed to get the momentum, and we couldnt quite find our way back into the game," Toews said. "Its up to us to play better with those leads." Three days after the Kings evened the series by scoring six consecutive goals in the final 22 minutes of Game 2, Los Angeles didnt relax and rely on its NHL-best defence. Neither team played conservatively despite the stakes, instead trading tantalizing scoring chances for the first two periods. The Kings kept pushing for goals even while leading in the third, generating 18 shots and keeping the talented Blackhawks stuck in their own end for long stretches. "We all want to win in here, and Toews is obviously our captain and leader," Chicago defenceman Duncan Keith said. "He definitely led the way tonight, but we need everybody if we are going to beat this team and try to win one here. Toews came out and led the way. Its up to the rest of us to follow that." The Blackhawks beat Los Angeles in five games in the conference finals last season, but the rematch hasnt been nearly as smooth for Chicago. Patrick Kane and Bryan Bickell havent scored a goal in the conference finals, while Sharps last-gasp goal was his first of the series. The Blackhawks had their usual hundreds of red-clad fans in an otherwise black-and-white Staples Center crowd, and Toews put Chicago ahead just 5:26 into Game 3 with a spectacular short-handed goal, stealing the puck from Justin Williams and beating Quick between the legs. After Voynov tied it, Toews connected again later in the period on a rebound. The Kings evened it in the second period when Pearson corralled a puck that hit a referee behind the net and fed it to Carter in front for his eighth goal. Carter then chipped the puck ahead to Toffoli shortly after a Chicago power play ended. Toffoli broke in on Crawford, who lifted his left pad for only an instant -- right when Toffoli pushed the puck under him. The Kings kept up the pressure in the third period, and Doughty scored just his second goal of the post-season shortly after a power play expired in the third period. NOTES: F Andrew Shaw returned to Chicagos lineup after a seven-game injury absence. He took the lineup spot of Peter Regin, who had played the last four games. ... Toews had his first multigoal performance in 63 playoff games since May 7, 2010, when he had a hat trick against Vancouver. ... Guitarist Slash played the national anthem. Then he challenged them to respond in a positive way. The club is now doing a little bit of everything right to get back on track. Rookie Roenis Elias struck out six while pitching into the seventh to win consecutive starts for the first time, Justin Smoak drove in three runs and the Mariners beat the Oakland Athletics 8-3 on Tuesday night for their season-best fourth straight victory. "Its been something incredible," Elias said. "Everybodys together doing their job. I like my team how theyre playing baseball." Smoak hit an RBI double and Dustin Ackley a run-scoring single in the first to back Elias (3-2), who followed up a 10-strikeout gem at Yankee Stadium his last time out with another impressive start once he settled down. The Mariners jumped on Jesse Chavez (2-1) to take a quick first-inning lead for the second straight game against the As -- and Seattle scored all three of its first-inning runs with two outs on the way to its ninth win in 11 games overall. "We know that were not going to win a playoff spot in April," Michael Saunders said. "However, that being said, losing eight straight was a definite learning experience for us. Its not going to be the last time." Chavez got a scare and escaped injury in the fourth when he saved himself from a hard-hit liner by Saunders by catching the screamer that was going right for his face. "It was all reflexes, I just put my glove up," Chavez said. "As soon as I let go of the pitch I saw him make contact. Ive jumped out of the way at balls at my lower body, but Ive never had one like that at my face before." Making the play knocked him off his feet to end the fourth, and the small Coliseum crowd of 12,106 briefly fell silent. "Luckily no one got hurt. I havent seen the replay but guys said it had a chance to hit him square in the face," Saunders said. Chavez got a double play to face the minimum in the fifth, but his night ended after allowing Mike Zuninos sixth-inning sacrifice fly following a hit battsman and a walk.dddddddddddd Oakland No. 9 hitter Nick Punto pulled Oakland back in it with a two-run, two-out single in the second. Yoenis Cespedes, back in the starting lineup after nursing a left hamstring injury, hit a leadoff home run in the sixth. The As squandered a scoring chance in the seventh against Dominic Leone, leaving the tying run on third as they again struggled with runners in scoring position. Elias allowed three runs and five hits with three walks in 6 1-3 innings in his seventh career start. Sean Doolittle struck out all four batters he faced in relief of Chavez. But Seattle added on four unearned runs in the top of the ninth against 2013 AL saves leader Jim Johnson, who was booed off the mound when pulled by manager Bob Melvin as fans headed for the exits. Smoak added a two-run single. For Wednesdays doubleheader, Felix Hernandez will pitch Game 1 for Seattle and Erasmo Ramirez the second. As manager Bob Melvin didnt announce his choice for the nightcap, though Dan Straily pitches the opener. Oakland will make right-hander Arnold Leon its 26th player for the second game but is likely to start Drew Pomeranz since he didnt pitch in relief Tuesday. The 25-year-old Leons family was scheduled to fly in from Mexico for his likely major league debut after nine seasons in the minors. The teams are playing two after an April 4 game was called because of a soggy field that had mistakenly gone without its tarp during a heavy rainstorm. NOTES: Saunders, who came in batting .393 with a homer and five RBIs in seven games batting leadoff, went 0 for 4 atop the order. "I dont like messing with success," McClendon said. "Hes been doing great, weve been doing great. Its kind of hard to change that."... As reliever Eric OFlaherty, on the disabled list since undergoing Tommy John surgery in the off-season, threw a 30-pitch bullpen session and could begin throwing to hitters soon, and Melvin said an announcement on the pitchers next step would come Wednesday. ... Melvin said Triple-A catcher Stephen Vogt, an As playoff star last October currently on Sacramentos disabled list, is close to returning from a strained oblique muscle. 02:32ET 07-05-14 NFL Jerseys Wholesale Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys 2020 Wholesale NFL Gear China Jerseys Cheap Wholesale Nike NFL Jerseys NFL Jerseys China ' ' '

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida – Its been almost seven years since the Blue Jays last won a series at Tropicana Field. Theyll have to capture both Wednesday and Thursday nights games to break the unbelievable skid, which has reached 19 consecutive series either lost or tied. Manager John Gibbons, who was in his first tenure as Blue Jays manager the last time the club took a series from the Rays in St. Petersburg, from April 6-8, 2007, has taken to calling the barren stadium his teams "House of Horrors." "Weve seen some crazy things happen here," said Gibbons. "They open the door. I dont know what it is. Its something and they expect it over on the other side. Theyve done it so many times, they expect it." The Blue Jays were waxed, 9-2, on Opening Day Monday, a game in which Murphys Law applied. Everything that could go wrong did, from R.A. Dickeys unimpressive outing to Jose Reyes pulling up lame with a recurrence of the hamstring inflammation that plagued him late in spring training. Even Tuesdays 4-2 victory, a game in which Toronto led 4-0 heading to the bottom of the eighth, was a nail-biter at the end. The Rays had the tying run in scoring position with two out in the ninth and the winning run at the plate. "You know its tough to win here and it usually takes nine tough innings," said Gibbons. While it may sound like an obvious, generalized comment, first baseman-designated hitter Adam Lind believes its important to play with the lead against the Rays and the sooner, the better. "Its hard to come from behind against Tampa," said Lind. "When youre in the lead, theyre out of their comfort zone and when youre running out of innings or wherever they want to be with their pitching staff where they can just tack on a run here or a run there. Its paramount to get a lead against these guys because even when its 1-0, theyre definitely in the drivers seat." There are teams that are harder to prepare for than others. There are teams that are harder to play against than others. "Its tough, man," said Lind. "You just tell by how they pitch, (pitching coach) Jim Hickey, its like we play them every game how they pitch us. They get excellent execution from their pitching staff and their whole defensive side of the ball is probably the best in the game." Challenges with the challenge Adam Lind offered the line of the season so far on the topic of managers challenges and the ramifications of the new rule. "Well, I know Bud Seligs worked his whole career to get the pace of play up and now were just back to square one," said Lind. "I enjoy that theyre going to have the calls right but I dont think anyone saw the whole, are we going to do it or not going to do it?" The issue is the stalling. Both John Gibbons and Joe Maddon have emerged from their dugouts to politely dispute a call – thats another problem, the intensity of the manager-umpire argument is all but taken away – while their video coaches review the footage. Theyre waiting for a signal from the dugout on whether to challenge. "I think thats just the way the game is going to go now," said Lind. "I guess the higher ups didnt think about that before the whole walk-out but youre going to do whatever you can to get outs or get people safe. Just like (Tuesday) with Gibby, if you still have a challenge left, you might as well use it." Happ throws a bullpen J.A. Happ, on the disabled list with a back injury, threw a bullpen session on Wednesday at Tropicana Field. "Hes feeling much better, definitely feeling good, played catch (Tuesday), threw a light side today and really feels no ill-effects from the issues with the back right now and hell progress accordingly," said pitching coach Pete Walker. "Well discuss now what the next step is, if its to get him in a game, when that will be, and progress him from there." Santos survives ninth Sergio Santos got the save in Tuesdays 4-2 win but not before the Rays put a scare into the Blue Jays. Tampa Bay brought the winning run to the plate with two out, in the person of Yunel Escobar, and had the tying run on second base after a double steal on the first pitch of the Escobar at-bat. Santos didnt bother with the base runners. Why? It all goes back to a conversation he had with Yankees legendary closer Mariano Rivera in 2011. "My whole thinking is Escobars the only guy that can hurt me," said Santos. "Whether there are runners on first and second or second and third, to me, in that situation is irrelevant because I know if I get my job done, which is getting the hitter out, it doesnt matter what base theyre on. "That was one of the things that Mo had stressed was not to be so preoccupied with whos on the bases and what theyre doing because the second you give some of your attention on the base runner and youre not fully with the hitter, thats when bad things can happen." Seattle Seahawks Jerseys .C. -- Eric Staal kept his focus after his apparent breakaway goal was waived off early in the third period. Alex McGough Seahawks Jersey . Zimmermann became the National Leagues first 16-game winner, pitching seven solid innings to lead the Washington Nationals past the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 Wednesday night. Will Dissly Jersey . PETERSBURG, Fla. Will Dissly Seahawks Jersey . "All he says is, its crazy," DeMar DeRozan told reporters following Torontos win over the Pistons Wednesday. The Raptors longest-serving members, Johnson and DeRozan have had two coaches and 56 different teammates in five seasons with the club, all without appearing in a single playoff game.PORTLAND, Ore. -- Damian Lillard couldnt believe when he got a clear look at the rim. With the final buzzer about to sound, he took his shot. "I got my feet squared up and it felt real good leaving my hands," Portlands point guard said. "Once I saw it on line, I said, Thats got a chance." Lillards shot fell and the Trail Blazers stunned the Houston Rockets 99-98 to take their playoff series in six games and advance to the Western Conference semifinals for the first time in 14 years. In the frenzied postgame celebration, Lillard took the public address microphone and shouted "Rip City!" The hometown crowd roared. Portland, making its first playoff appearance since 2011, had been eliminated in the first round in its last six trips, and hadnt advanced to the second round since 2000. "Its a great feeling," said fellow guard Wesley Matthews. "Im excited for Portland, of course excited for us. The grind of the season: Youre a competitor, you want to win, you want to play, you want to advance, you want to be a champion. ... Its unbelievable." Dwight Howard made four consecutive free throws to tie the game at 91 before making a bank shot that put Houston ahead with 3:04 to go. Robin Lopez scored on a tip shot to give the Blazers a 94-93 lead with 2:15 left, setting up a wild finish. Howards layup and foul shot put the Rockets back up 96-94 before Nicolas Batums fadeaway jumper tied it again with 39.9 seconds left. Chandler Parsons scored on a reverse layup with 0.9 seconds left to give Houston the lead. Lillard prevented the series from going back to Houston with his 3-pointer as time ran out. He finished with 25 points. The Trail Blazers said Lillard is the first player to make a buzzer-beating shot to win a playoff series since John Stocktons 3 that led Utah over Houston in 1997s Western Conference finals, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. "He made a hell of a shot," Rockets coach Kevin McHale said of Lillard. Portland will face the winner of the series between San Antonio and Dallas. The Mavericks forced a deciding Game 7 with a 113-111 victory over the Spurs on Friday night. There are five first-round playoff series that have gone to seven games.dddddddddddd LaMarcus Aldridge led the Blazers with 30 points and 13 rebounds. He averaged 29.8 points during the series. After losing the opening two games in Houston, then claiming one of a pair in Portland, the Rockets staved off elimination with a 108-98 victory on Wednesday night to narrow Portlands advantage in the series to 3-2. Howard had 22 points and 14 rebounds, and Jeremy Lin redeemed himself from a poor performance in Game 4 with 21 points off the bench. James Harden led the Rockets on Friday night with 34 points. Howard had 26 points and 11 rebounds as Houston -- which earned the nickname "Clutch City" back in the mid-1990s when the team won back-to-back NBA championships -- failed to become the ninth team to come back from a 3-1 deficit in a best-of-seven playoff series and advance. "It hurts," Howard said. "When you put everything youve got on the floor and somebody hits you with a dagger like that, its a tough pill to swallow." After Lillards 3, Howard went over to congratulate his friend and told him he was proud of him and to go win the title. Aldridge helped the Blazers steal the first two games in Houston, scoring 46 points in a 122-120 overtime Game 1 win, then 43 in a 112-105 victory. The Rockets claimed the first of two in Portland, 121-116 in overtime, led by Harden with 37 points. The series third OT game ended in a 123-120 Blazers win. Aldridge gave the Rockets credit for making the Blazers better. "We felt like they definitely helped us grow. Were so young in the playoffs, but they definitely helped us grow and we feel we should be better for the next round," Aldridge said. "Were happy now, but were not satisfied." NOTES: The Blazers honoured former coach Jack Ramsay, who led the team to its lone NBA championship in 1977, in a moving pregame ceremony. Ramsay died Monday after a long battle with cancer in Florida. ... A fan at the game held a sign reading: "Play like its 1977." ... BALTIMORE -- Bud Norris found a way to work around two lengthy rain delays. Mat Latos did not. That goes a long way toward explaining why the Baltimore Orioles beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 on Tuesday night. After rain delayed the start of the game for 23 minutes, another shower halted play in the top of the first inning for 1 hour, 46 minutes. Norris played catch and walked around during the delay. He returned to throw six shutout innings. "You want to stay loose, you want to pitch," he said. "Its your day to go." Latos threw his first pitch nearly 2 1/2 hours after the scheduled starting time. The right-hander gave up four runs in the first inning and a solo homer to Jonathan Schoop in the second to fall behind 5-0. "It (stunk)," Latos said. "You know, all of your adrenaline comes out of the bullpen. I like to create a tempo in the bullpen how I am going to pitch in the game. ... I felt really good coming out of the pen. Mother Nature must have snuck up on us again. Its the second time this has happened to me in two away games." Latos (5-4) yielded five runs and a season-high 10 hits over five innings in his first loss since July 27. Nelson Cruz delivered his career-high 91st RBI in the pivotal first inning with a single. Chris Davis and Caleb Joseph added RBI singles around a run-scoring groundout to send the Orioles to their seventh win in nine games. Baltimore withstood an eighth-inning grand slam by Jay Bruce to extend its lead in the AL East to a season-high 9 1/2 games. "You do whatever it takes to stay focused for the game," Cruz said. "I think we do a really good job in those situations." Norris (12-8) allowed four hits, struck out seven and walked one. He was 0-3 with a 5.11 ERA in his previous seven starts against Cincinnati. "That was pretty impressive to go out there," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. Bruces third career slam, off Darren ODay, got the Reds to 5-4. In the Cincinnati ninth, Ramon Santiago doubled off Zach Britton with one out and took third on an infield hit by Billy Hamilton. Britton then got Todd Frazier to hit into a double play to secure his 32nd save. The game didnt finally end, however, until after a review of the final play. The replay confirmed that Hamilton got tagged in the baseline before Schoop completed the double play with a throw to first. "As a baserunner, you absolutely cannot be tagged there," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "Its the only way they are going to turn two in that situation. Its those things you got to learn from." Cincinnati has dropped 14 of 20 and is 15-28 since the All-Star break. After the first delay, the first play left three people on the ground. Hamilton hit a liner off Norris leg, and the ball ricocheted toward first base. Norris dived on it and threw to first, too late, and Hamilton ran into umpire Mike DiMuro. Hamilton recovered from the collision but DiMuro left with an unspecified injury. Hamilton then stole second, setting a Reds rookie record with 55 for the season, before rain forced another stoppage. TRAINERS ROOM Reds: Cincinnati placed RHP Homer Bailey (elbow) on the 60-day DL, ending his season. Surgery "will be considered as something that would certainly rectify the problem," Price said. Orioles: SS J.J. Hardy was sidelined with back spasms but intended to play Wednesday. "Its as close to 100 per cent as possible," he said. 1B Steve Pearce (abdominal strain) expects to sit out the series. UP NEXT Reds: Dylan Axelrod (1-1) makes his third start of the season. He has a 1.64 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 11 innings. Orioles: Miguel Gonzalez (7-7) faces the Reds for the first time. The right-hander is 1-1 in four career interleague starts. A.J. Derby Dolphins Jersey . -- In the stadium program sold at the Miami Dolphins game on Halloween, Richie Incognito was asked whos the easiest teammate to scare.Great pitching and multi-run innings led the Winnipeg Goldeyes to two wins in Sioux City, Iowa on Wednesday night. After the Goldeyes and Sioux City Explorers game on Tuesday night was suspended due to rain, the two teams played a pseudo doubleheader on Wednesday. In the first game, the continuation of Tuesday nights matchup, the Goldeyes (47-29) topped the Explorers (33-44) by a score of 6-2. In the regularly scheduled game, which was shortened to seven innings, the Goldeyes shutout the Xs 10-0. After falling behind by two to Sioux City on Tuesday night, the Goldeyes were able to get five runs in the top of the fifth before the game was called due to the weather. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run from Casey Haerther. "We got timely hitting last night which got us off on the right foot today," said Goldeyes Pitching Coach Jamie Vermilyea on the Jewel 101 post-game show. The Goldeyes were able to add on one more run in the sixth inning after the game resumed on Wednesday night. In the regularly scheduled Wednesday night game, the Goldeyes had two strong offensive innings, which put them ahead and gave them the win. In the top of the second Reggie Abercrombie got on base on a first pitch single. One pitch later, Luis Alen ripped a two-run home run down the left field line. The Goldeyes then generated two more runs on RBI from Donnie Webb and Tyler Kuhn. In the third the Fish would add on another run on a RBI single from Jordan Guida. The Goldeyes then really put tthe game away in the top of the sixth, as they scored four more runs.ddddddddddddAbercrombie brought home three of those runs with a huge two-out three-run homer. "Reggies home run was big, he hit that ball hard and it flew a long way," said Vermilyea. "It really put the game out of reach for them." Winnipeg tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh to take a double-digit lead. The real story in both wins though was strong pitching performances. Ethan Hollingsworth started the Tuesday night rained out game and only gave up one earned run through four innings of work. Gabe Aguilar and Brendan Lafferty shut the Explorers down in the continuation of the suspended match, giving up only two hits between them and striking out seven. Nick Hernandez was the hero in Wednesday nights regularly scheduled match as he pitched the complete seven-inning game. Hernandez only gave up three hits in the shutout, and the win marked his first ever professional career complete game. "Nick went out and did his thing, his fast ball was really working, and he finished them off," said Vermilyea. "What can I say? It was a heck of a game for him." The Goldeyes now return home to take on the Wichita Wingnuts in a four-game series that begins Thursday night at 7 p.m. "We have a couple solid teams coming in on this homestand," Vermilyea said. "So it was good to get these last two wins here to get us off on the right foot coming home." BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil -- An overpass under construction collapsed Thursday in this World Cup host city, killing at least two people and trapping a commuter bus, two construction trucks and a car in an embarrassment for a country that has been basking in praise for what has mostly been a smoothly running soccer tournament. At least 22 people were reported injured. There was not yet any word on whether foreign tourists were among those killed or injured. Brazilian officials didnt think the casualty numbers would rise too sharply -- though they said they had not yet reached a small passenger car that was flattened by the falling overpass. It was not known if anyone inside the car escaped or remained inside. The incident is the biggest black eye yet for Brazils hosting of the World Cup, which has been carried out with less chaos than many had feared. In the run-up to the event, there were serious concerns about the ability of Brazils airports and roads to handle the influx of tourists because of delays or outright cancellations of projects to improve urban transportation. After Brazil was awarded the World Cup in 2007, politicians promised $8 billion would be spent on 56 airports, subway lines and other such projects nationwide. But less than 10 of the infrastructure projects were completed in time for the tournament, including the project where the overpass collapsed in Belo Horizonte. It was not known what caused the overpass to fall. Cowan, the construction company responsible for building it, said investigators were on site but had not released any conclusions. "It sounded like an earthquake or a bomb," said Alexandra Pereira, a teacher who was taking a nap with her 10-year-old son in her apartment building just 20 metres (yards) from the overpass. "I looked out my window and panicked. I couldnt see anything but a huge cloud of dust." Within seconds, Pereira said, her neighbours from the ground floor rushes out to pull injured from the bus that was partially trapped under the overpass. Pereira said she and several neighbours in a group of nine residential buildings close to the overpass had long complained to the mayors office that they feared for their safety from the construction and asked authorities for compensation so they could move. She said the request was rejected and the mayors office assured them the project was safe. The mayors office ws closed for the day, but Lt. Col. Edgar Estevo da Silva, a spokesman for the fire department, said officials had inspected the nearby apartment buildings and didnt find any sign they were at risk because of the overpass collapse. Among the dead was a woman who was driving a commuter bus trapped by the overpass died, said Capt. Federico Pascual of the Belo Horizonte fire department. An official in the mayors office reported the death of a second person. The official said 22 people were known to be injured. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasnt authorized to talk to the media about the incident. The overpass collapsed about 3 miles (5 kilometres) from Mineirao stadium, which has hosted several World Cup matches in recent weeks and is the site of a semifinal match Tuesday. The overpass "arched over a really busy thoroughfare," Pascual said. Security camera footage showed heavy traffic on the street below the structure the moment that the overpass collapsed, striking vehicles below and trapping them underneath. KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Neither rain nor the Kansas City Royals could stop the Los Angeles Angels from winning again. Albert Pujols and David Freese combined to drive in five runs as the Angels beat the Royals 6-2 on Saturday for their seventh victory in eight games. There were two rain delays with the second after the fourth inning lasting 3:58. The game didnt end until nearly 7 hours after it started. "We had a lot of waiting in between a baseball game," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. The official game time was 2:48, while the rain delays totalled 4:06. "Its a waiting game," said Eric Hosmer, who had one of the six Royals hits and scored a run. "You basically hang out. We heard it was going to be a couple of hours. It wasnt one of those things where we were thinking it could start any minute, so we had a little heads up. Its all part of the grind of the season. There are going to be days like that. Its what we all sign up for." Pujols, who has 14 RBIs in his past 13 games, singled home runs in the third and sixth innings. Freese, who had three hits, drove in three runs, two in the four-run sixth and the other in fourth. He has six RBIs in his past seven games, after driving in only three in his previous 26 games. "It was nice to come out and get some runs after the rain," Freese said. "It was almost like starting a new game so it was nice to get some runs, and nice to get the win." Kole Calhoun added three hits, scored two runs and drove in one. The Angels four-run sixth included four hits, two walks and three stolen bases. Rookie right-hander Mike Morin (2-1), who went to high school at a Kansas City suburb, allowed two runs on two hits over two innings to pick up the victory. "It was cool," Morin said. "Scioscia told me I was going to get the ball and I had all my family and friends here. They were probably the only ones left after the rain delay. Its been a great weekend. Ill never forget it. It was just fortunate that I could be in there to get the win in front of them." Angels left-hander Hector Santiago was not allowed to come back out after the second delay. He pitched four scoreless innings, giving up four hits. "Somebody sent me a message and asked me did you make a witch angry?" said Santiago, who needed to pitch one more inning to claim his first victory of the season and losing his first seven decisions. "It seems like everything that can have an effect on me getting a win has happened. But I gave four scoreless innings and gave us a chance to win, and the team got the win, so thats what I care about." Royals rookie Yordano Ventura (5-7) took the loss, yielding two runs on seven hits over four innings. "I felt like I was in command of the strike zone, but unfortunately the rain got to me and I couldnt go back out," Ventura said with Royals catching coach Pedro Grifol acting as his interpreter. "I prepared to pitch today and I wanted to go back out, but there was no way I could go back after that long rain delay." Veteran left-hander Bruce Chen, who had not pitched since April 24 and going on the disabled list with a bulging disc, replaced Ventura after the game resumed. He allowed four runs on four hits, all in the sixth, walked two and struck out eight over five innings. Jason Grilli made his Angels debut after being acquired in a Friday trade with the Pirates and worked a perfect eighth, striking out one.
