A study in the USA claims there is a link between the use of artificial pitches which contain crumb rubber - made from recycled tyres - and cancer. The study - by the University of Washington - is not new and the results do not mean that 3G pitches in the UK hold a health risk. The complete report cannot be made public as it contains personal information of those surveyed, but its conclusions are worrying, according to one of the authors, former US Womens soccer international Amy Griffin.Griffin found that 200 athletes who use artificial surfaces regularly have developed forms of cancer. Of those 200, 158 were footballers and of those 158, 95 were goalkeepers. The report went onto highlight crumb rubber, which is spread over artificial surfaces to act as a support, to prevent wear and tear and soak up excess water, is made of recycled tyres that can contain hazardous levels of toxic chemicals. Those chemicals, if ingested over a long period of time can cause an increased risk of developing cancer. In the USA, tyres either manufactured domestically or imported can contain chemicals such as lead, cadmium and mercury. In reply to a request from Sky Sports News HQ about any health concerns over the use of artificial pitches, FIFA - who has conducted two studies in the last decade - replied: FIFAs Medical Assessment and Research Center (F-MARC) in cooperation with UEFA conducted an analysis of this matter in 2006.At that time, the conclusion was clear: the available body of scientific research on this issue did not substantiate the assumption that cancer resulting from exposure to SBR granulate infills in artificial turf could potentially occur. Since then, several independent research have been conducted -the latest being from 2015- reaching similar conclusions. FIFA will continue monitoring and analysing any new evidence produced on this matter. The available body of scientific research... did not substantiate the assumption that cancer resulting from exposure to SBR granulate infills in artificial turf could potentially occur. FIFA Artificial pitches are a common sight in football in the UK and the Football Association are spearheading a campaign for more all-weather facilities.Guidance from football authorities in the UK say they are constantly monitoring the situation and at this time are assured there is no evidence to suggest any danger.Sky Sports News HQ are awaiting information from The British Association of Tyre Manufacuturers as to what materials are legally allowed in the manufacture of tyres within the UK and EU.EU health and safety marks state the presence of mercury and benzene in tyres is not allowed while lead and cadmium are at trace levels of 0.05 per cent and 0.001 per cent - the same restrictions are not in place in the US.While many experts believe there is no hard evidence to suggest a link between cancer and crumb rubber, there is yet to be a comprehensive study on the subject.A study is under way in California which certainly intends to be more scientifically intense, but it is not due for publication until June 2018. CHICAGO -- Dwyane Wade made his Chicago homecoming a memorable affair, contributing 22 points, six rebounds and five assists to the Bulls 105-99 win over the Boston Celtics on Thursday night. In his first regular-season appearance as a member of the Bulls, Wade had fans cheering from start to finish as he authored the beginning of a new chapter in his Hall of Fame career. After being announced as from Chicago in the starting lineup introductions, Wade, who is from Robbins, Illinois, took a knee for a moment before making his way through a line of high-fives with some of his teammates.Ive been waiting on that moment for a long time, Wade said. I know it was special, obviously, for my family who was here. Theyve been waiting on it probably just as long. I just took that moment just to thank God for giving me this opportunity to be here, to do these things, to have this career I have. And to be able to make a decision on my own. And put myself in a position where I can live a dream out. I was very thankful in that moment. Took that knee to just thank the Lord and hear the cheers in the crowd and take in a moment. And then, its game time.Wade signed with the Bulls over the summer after 13 seasons with the Miami Heat. He has been heralded throughout training camp as a solid leader and a player his younger teammates can learn from, alongside veteran point guard Rajon Rondo.Making his presence known throughout the game, Wade went 7-for-18 from the field and hit the biggest shot of the night, a 3-pointer with 26.3 seconds left that gave the Bulls a five-point lead they would not relinquish.Wade said he had an out-of-body experience after knocking down the 3, which included a throat slash toward the Celtics. Were not the team that everyone is analytically putting together, Wade said of the new-look Bulls. But were a team of guys who can compete. Were a team of guys who have pride. Were a team of guys with talent. Once you make it all work together, it doesnt matter about analytics or the game. Its about players. And its about going out there and competing. And we were able to do that tonight. So were able to do that on a consistent basis. Who knows if the 3s going to go in, but we know if we compete and give that effort, well have a chance to win every night, and thats all you can ask for in this league.Wades performance underscored why the Bulls front office was so happy to land him over the summer. Not only did he help lead Chicago to victory, but he also gave the team a jolt of energy throughout the night and made plays when the game was on the line.He means a lot to this team, Bulls power forward Taj Gibson said.ddddddddddddWe need him to be the Wade hes always been. The guy whos not afraid to attack. The guys whos not afraid to take big shots like you see late in the game. ... When D-Wade took that shot, he made it, his expressions, how he was jumping around, his swag -- it was kind of awkward, because Im used to him kind of doing that against us on the opposing side. But it was a great thing. I was happy we got a win.Butler, who the Bulls hope can mature under Wades tutelage, sang his new teammates praises as well.Thats one less player I got to guard in this league, to tell you the truth, so Im excited about that, Butler said of Wade. But the way the game slows down for him, he knows where guys are going to be. Its hard to do, but thats what happens whenever you play 13, going on 14, years in this league. Hes so much smarter than a lot of guys, using his body and his athleticism to his advantage, so Im taking note.Former Heat teammate Chris Bosh took time to acknowledge how special Thursdays home debut was for Wade.Even Gabrielle Union, Wades wife, couldnt believe what she was seeing in her husbands debut. After watching Wade repeatedly knock down 3-pointers, Union took to Twitter to discuss her delight.Wade shot just 7-for-44 from beyond the arc last season with the Heat, but he went 4-for-6 from 3-point range Thursday.Told about his wifes tweet after the game, Wade started to chuckle. You got to keep the marriage spicy, Wade said. You cant let it get too comfortable with something. So, trying to switch my game up after two years of marriage.Wade might have been happiest of all after Thursdays win. It meant something special to him to be able to perform at such a high level in front of his friends and family. Were all from Chicago, man, Wade said, referring to his mother and father, who were in attendance at the United Center. I know this moment meant a lot [to them] as well. Theyre very proud of what Ive been able to accomplish in basketball, period. Even being in the NBA. Theyre very proud of me.But I know deep inside this means a lot to them. Because this is where we grew up, watching a little 12-inch TV together, trying to watch the Bulls game on WGN. So I know this moment was incredible for them as well, and I enjoyed it. Because I know my loved ones, my family, we grew up idolizing and worshiping this organization and Michael Jordan and Scottie [Pippen] and the Bulls. ' ' '

Leicestershire 300 for 7 (Eckersley 73*) v DerbyshireScorecard Teenage left-arm spinner Callum Parkinson took three wickets on debut as a depleted Derbyshire attack responded impressively to adversity on the first day of the Specsavers County Championship match against promotion candidates Leicestershire. With pacemen Will Davis and Ben Cotton both injured, and overseas player Hamish Rutherford perhaps surprisingly left out, Derbyshire gave a first-class debut to wicketkeeper Alex Mellor, on loan from Warwickshire, as well as to Parkinson. There were also first first-class appearances of the season for seamers Alex Hughes and Tom Milnes.Foxes skipper Mark Cosgrove won the toss and chose to bat, but Milnes struck early, finding the edge of Angus Robsons bat with a delivery which swung away from the right-hander. Wayne Madsen held a sharp catch low down at third slip. The experienced pairing of Paul Horton and Neil Dexter batted solidly, however, with Dexter looking in particularly good touch. He had hit six fours, mostly driven through the off side, when an uncharacteristic flash at a wide delivery from former Leicestershire allrounder Shiv Thakor shortly before the break saw him edge a catch behind.Leicestershire resumed after lunch on 102 for 2, but 19-year-old Parkinson - twin brother of Lancashire legspinner Matt - first bowled Cosgrove, who went back to a ball which turned and stayed a touch low, for 14, and then had Paul Horton caught behind for 42 with a delivery which bounced more than the opener expected.Thakor then picked up the wicket of Mark Pettini for 13, leg before to a well-pitched up delivery which also stayed a fraction low.A stand of 68 for the sixth wicket between Niall OBrien and Ned Eckersley saw Leicestershire pick up their first batting bonus point, but OBrien became the third Leicestershire batsman to reach 40 but fail to go on when he went leg before to the very occasional offspin of Wayne Madsen, playing for turn that was not there.Eckersley looked in good touch, however, and found a positive partner in Clint McKay. The big Australian pulled Thakor for a massive six early in his innings, and had hit 40 from 42 balls in adding 83 with Eckersley for the seventh wicket when he swung and missed at Parkinson, who finished with 3 for 64 from 26 overs.Eckersley was unbeaten at the close, on 73 - comfortably the highest score of the day - made from 160 balls. Using his superior athleticism, St-Pierre cruised to a five round, unanimous decision victory setting up a much-anticipated title defence against number one contender Johny Hendricks. Mike Fink . 1 position. The Mustangs (6-0), who beat Queens 50-31 last weekend, earned 17 first-place votes and 287 points in voting by the Football Reporters of Canada. Western was last ranked first in the country in October 2011. Henry Thomas . 4 Villanova with a 96-68 drubbing on Monday. Wragge hit 9-of-14 from behind the arc, matching Kyle Korvers school record for 3-pointers in a game set in 2003, as Creighton (16-3, 6-1 Big East broke a conference record with 21 treys in the rout.Brent Seabrook scored in overtime, again, and the Chicago Blackhawks won Game Four, 6-5 over the Boston Bruins, evening the series at two games apiece. Seabrook, who has three goals and four points in the entire playoffs, has two overtime winners, his earlier one coming in Game Seven of the second round against Detroit. The Blackhawks outshot the Bruins 47-33, tying Bostons worst shot deficit (-14) in a game this postseason. The Bruins had a shot deficit of minus-14 or worse twice in the 2013 regular season. Chicago shook up their lines heading into Game Four, putting Patrick Kane on the right side with Jonathan Toews at centre and Bryan Bickell on the left wing. The results were favourable, as Kane had a goal and an assist, Bickell had two assists and, not only did Toews score a goal, but his positioning in front of the Boston net was instrumental to Seabrooks game-winning goal. Kane, Toews and Seabrook were plus-2 for the game, while Bickell and Duncan Keith were both plus-3. As the Blackhawks basically didnt use D Nick Leddy, playing him a total of 2:37, it was imperative to get a strong performance from veteran Michal Rozsival, who had two assists, was plus-3 and had strong possession numbers while playing 26:36, second-most on the Blackhawks, behind Keiths 32:37. Bruins D Andrew Ference struggled in the possession Game Wednesday, spending most of his night matched up against Chicagos second line of Patrick Sharp, Michal Handzus and Marian Hossa. Sharp had a game-high eight shots on goal and scored the Blackhawks fifth goal. Bruins C Patrice Bergeron scored twice and ledd the Bruins with six shots on goal, though he was minus-2.dddddddddddd. RW Tyler Seguin, LW Brad Marchand and D Zdeno Chara were minus-3 for the game. Chara was a minus-3 once in the regular season and its the first time in the playoffs hes finished worse than minus-1 in a game. Chara and Bruins RW Jaromir Jagr each contributed a pair of assists. On for two goals for and still minus-3, Chara was on the ice for five goals against. Bickell led the Blackhawks with six hits; Bruins LW Milan Lucic had a game-high eight hits and D Dennis Seidenberg registered seven. With the series now even, and heading back to Chicago, the advantage slides to the Blackhawks, but its ever so slight. There is such a razor-thin line between winning and losing in a series that has seen three of the first four games go to overtime, that neither team has a decided edge. The Blackhawks simply have to like being even in the series with the opportunity to get matchups on home ice in two of the remaining three games in the series. If they also happened to figure out how to beat Bruins G Tuukka Rask (who still leads the playoffs with a .941 save percentage), that could play in their favour. This series has been all about ebbs and flows, though, with momentum gained and lost over the course of single games. Its a wonderfully competitive matchup, so pretty great that there will be at least two more games between Boston and Chicago. PUEBLA DE SANABRIA, Spain -- Jonas Van Genechten of Belgium sprinted to win the Spanish Vueltas seventh stage on Friday after Alberto Contador crashed near the finish line.Contadors front wheel caught on another bike in a tight pack making a turn, sending him and other riders into the temporary barrier marking the courses final kilometer. Contador was quickly back on his bike but had several visible scratches and tears to his jersey as he slowly pedaled across the line. The seven-time grand tour winner, including three Vuelta titles, said his Tinkoff team would assess his health on Saturday morning.I was hit by someone that likes braking a lot and crashed on my left side, Contador said. I took a big hit on my calf and my quad, and in general I have extensive superficial wounds on the entire left side of my body. It hurts a lot but it seems that theres nothing broken.Colombian Darwin Atapuma held onto the overall lead of the grand tour, although Alejandro Valverde did chip into his advantage after picking up four bonus seconds for finishing third.Van Genechten, 29, beat a group of sprinters to claim the 158.5-kilometer (98-mile) stage over three category-three climbs from Maceda to Puebla de Sanabria in 3 hours, 55 minutes, 44 seconds.Van Genechten, who rides for IAM, called his first grand tour win the biggest victory of his career. At the Vuelta the chance for a win is very small, so we have to fight for every single chance, he said. This was one of my goals.Daniele Bennati crossed second. The days racing appeared relatively calm compared to the frantic sixth stage. That was until two-thirds of the way through when Astana charged to the front and set a punishing pace for over 20 kilometers that fractured the peloton.Astana then launched Luis Leon Sanchez on a breakaway, and the Spaniard put on an impressive run with Simon Clarke tagging along in his wake to almost beat the peloton to the finish -- only to be caught a few hundred meters (yards) from the end.It was a dramatic moment because we werent expecting Astanas push, nobody was, Atapuma said about the attack that momentarilyAtapuma said about the attack that momentari dropped BMC team leader Samuel Sanchez. We recovered from the scare and were able to arrive without problems.Samuel Sanchez, however, went down in the small pileup after Contador crashed. He too quickly resumed racing to complete the stage, and his BMC team said he was relatively unscathed.Atapuma leads Valverde by 24 seconds overall. OLYMPICSRIO DE JANEIRO -- The IOC approved the entry of 271 Russian athletes for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, meaning 70 percent of the countrys original team will compete after a doping scandal that has dominated the buildup to the games. The IOC rule barring Russian athletes with prior doping sanctions from competing in the games was also rejected as unenforceable by a sports arbitration panel, a decision which could open the door to further appeals and more Russians being entered. The International Olympic Committee announced the go-ahead for 271 Russian athletes about 24 hours before the opening ceremony of the games. SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- For now, Chip Kelly is sticking with Blaine Gabbert through thick and thin. And time will tell what the 49ers coach decides if and when backup Colin Kaepernick gets back to his ideal playing weight and finds a groove following surgeries on his non-throwing left shoulder, left knee and right thumb. After a commanding 28-0 Monday night win against the Rams in Week 1, Gabbert and San Francisco lost 47-26 Sunday on the road to Cam Newton and Carolina.Hes our starter and Ive got a lot of confidence in Blaine, Kelly said Monday. So, were not thinking or talking about not having Blaine in there. Its about everybody on offense playing better right now. While Gabbert threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns, he also tossed a pair of late interceptions and was sacked twice. And it hardly gets any easier this week.San Francisco (1-1) is going to the hostile confines of CenturyLink Field to face the nemesis Seattle Seahawks and their experienced, staunch secondary -- a group of defensive backs far more experienced than what the Panthers possess.Kaepernick, meanwhile, continues to regain his strength with an aim of returning to his previous playing weight of about 225 pounds, though Kelly isnt sure how close he is to that number right now. Kaepernick, whose decision not to stand for the national anthem has been one of the NFLs biggest stories, wasnt able to lift weights for much of his time rehabbing from the three surgeries. Its not something thats going to happen overnight, Kelly said. Hes not going to get to 225 in a week. If you are, its not going to be a good 225. Its about building himself back up, and you can see kind of where hes comfortable in terms of being able to play. Its something thatt hes working extremely hard at.dddddddddddd Its just, you cant force that issue.Tackle Anthony Davis is in the NFLs concussion protocol after sustaining a head injury during Thursdays practice, which was the lone session of the week in pads. He did not travel to North Carolina with the team.Davis, who turns 27 next month, retired in June 2015 after his previous season was affected by a concussion that left him loopy.Davis said in early December 2014 he was able to drive home following a cross-country flight from New York in November that year despite feeling loopy from a concussion he didnt initially realize was so severe. He took an elbow to the head during that Nov. 16, 2014, victory against the Giants. He missed the next four games before returning for San Franciscos last two contests of the season. He was reinstated by the NFL on July 30 and returned to the team for the start of training camp. He was San Franciscos first-round draft choice, taken 11th overall in 2010 out of Rutgers.I have not had a chance to talk to A.D. since this occurred. It happened in Thursdays training session and then Friday morning we were notified that he wasnt going to travel with us, Kelly said. So, I havent talked to him. I havent seen A.D. since Thursday, so well see where he is with it and whats going on. And obviously, hell go into the league concussion protocol and well go through all the process there. Theres a system in place to make sure that hes not going to be put in harms way, so well see how that goes.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '

Needing a successful road trip to stay in the American Associations wild card race, the Winnipeg Goldeyes were anything but successful Monday night to begin the trek through Minnesota and South Dakota. The Goldeyes lost 14-1 to the St. Paul Saints at Midway Stadium in Minnesota in the first game of the four-game series and seven-game road trip, which concludes against the Sioux Falls Canaries on the weekend. The loss drops Winnipeg three games behind the Gary SouthShore RailCats, who were idle last night, for the leagues lone wild card playoff berth and the RailCats now have two games in hand on Winnipeg. The Goldeyes have 13 games remaining on their regular season schedule and have lost four of their last six games after winning seven of eight contests. Winnipeg starter Pete Gehle surrendered single runs in the first and second innings before giving up a two-run homer to St. Paul first baseman Brian Burgamy in the fifth inning. Goldeyes third baseman Amos Ramon singled in Kevin Moesquit in the top of the sixth inning to break St. Pauls shutout, but Winnipeg reliever Kaohi Downing was tagged by a Donald Blunt solo home run in the bottom of the frame to increase the Saints lead to 5-1. St. Paul added three more runs in the seventh inning off Gabe Aguilar for an 8-1 lead. After Winnipeg manager Rick Forney was ejected by home plate umpire John Durante for arguing balls and strikes following the top of the eighth inning, the game got way out of hand in the bottom of the frame. St. Paul touched Gabe Aguilar for four more runs and Blunt hit a grand slam off Goldeyes designated-hitter-turned-pitcher Casey Haerther as part of a six-run inning for the home side. It capped a five-RBI night for Blunt. Of Winnipegs six hits in the game, three came from Ray Sadler, who went three-for-four in the contest. Ramon had the Goldeyes lone RBI. Gehle suffered the loss for the for the fourth consecutive start, which ties a Goldeyes franchise record, and combined with three relievers to allow 17 hits. Former Texas Ranger Mark Hamburger went eight innings for the Saints in a winning cause. The Goldeyes and Saints will go at it again in St. Paul Tuesday night. Winnipeg will look to rebound by sending left Chris Salamida to the mound, while St. Paul will counter with Billy Soule. It was fitting that Andy Murrays first public comment, so to speak, upon becoming world No. 1 was to post a picture to his Instagram account quoting Rudyard Kiplings poem If.It is a line from the same poem that Murray passes below every time he walks out onto Centre Court at Wimbledon. The words were the last thing he saw before that heartbreaking 2012 final defeat to Roger Federer, but also the glorious victories over Novak Djokovic a year later -- the second in the Olympic final -- and this summer against Milos Raonic that brought him two of his three Grand Slam titles. Those gold letters read: If you can meet with triumph and disaster, and treat those two impostors just the same. It seems like a strapline for Murrays career. He posted the extended version online on Saturday when he completed his ascent to world No.1, after Raonic withdrew injured from their Paris semifinal. The poem has never rung truer, nor been more relevant for the Scot. There must have been times when Murray was weighed down by self-doubt; it would have taken some strength after losing five of seven Grand Slam final meetings against Djokovic, the latest at this years French Open, to feel confident his quest to topple his greatest foe was not futile.Dont forget, Djokovic held a seemingly insurmountable lead of more than 8,000 points over Murray in the rankings after beating the Scot at Roland Garros. But Murray is 56-4 since the start of the Rome Masters, when the Amelie Mauresmo era came to an official end, and claimed the title in Italy before tournament wins at Queens, Wimbledon, the Olympics, Beijing, Shanghai, Vienna and, finally, Paris. Now, more than seven years after becoming the second-best player in the world, in August 2009, he has cleared the final hurdle.Murray, remarkably, now has a 130-point lead over Djokovic in the year-end battle, with a total of 10,910 points. Few would have thought that possible when the Serb lifted his 14th major title in France earlier this summer, to complete his career Grand Slam.Yet, as good as it will have felt to overtake Djokovic, Murrays deflation will be just as sizeable should they return to the status quo and he finish the year playing second fiddle in the rankings once again. The Olympic champion will surely be determined to make a statement at the World Tour Finals, which begin in London on Sunday, to prove he is here to stay at the top of the game. The good thing for Murray is that he has only 200 points defend, while for Djokovic, the 2015 champion, 1,300 points are at stake. The Briton has not got a great record at the finals and won just one of his three round robin matches last year, on his way to an early exit. However, in trying to retain his ranking, he has to bear in mind the loss on Nov. 28 of the 275 points earned in last years Davis Cup final. If Murray wants to keep it simple, winning the World Tour Finals would make him the year-end No.1.There are other, more complicated scenarios in which he can still finish 2016 atop the rankings, though: if he matches or does better than Djokovic; if he finishes runner-up with three round-robin wins and the Serb wins the title with one round-robin win; or if Murray wins three round-robin matches and Djokovic is runner-up with one round-robin win.Djokovic is far from helpless in this, however. If he successfully defends his title with at least two round-robin wins, he will finish as the No.1 for the fifth time in the past six seasons. It all makes for a potentially thrilling finale to the season at the O2 Arena, where a maiden World Tour Finals title victory would also set Murray up to really cement a glittering legacy in 2017.This years has, undoubtedly, been great for Murray -- one British bookmaker is offering odds of 1/5 he will be knighted in the New Year Honours list, and Federer seemed to hint Murray deserved the accolade in a congratulatory tweet -- but next year could be the defining season of his career. With Federer and?Rafael Nadal?seemingly succumbing to injury, and Djokovic showing signs of waning, Murray would have a chance to dominate the mens game. Ending his awful run in Australian Open finals, with four of his five defeats at the hands of Djokovic, would be a very good place to start.Elsewhere on his to-do list, victories at Indian Wells and Monte Carlo would complete his Masters collection, and highlight just how consistently successful he has been to this point.Murrays Paris victory at Bercy brought his 43rd career title and eighth of the season, the match win over John Isner in the final his 19th in a row.Having also won Wimbledon, the US Open, the Olympics twice and the Davis Cup, that would leave him needing just the French Open to complete a career clean sweep if he had already triumphed in Melbourne in January. With Djokovics faltering form a puzzle, it is surely time for Murray to press home his advantage. Reaching world No. 1 needs to be just the beginning.Djokovic spent 119 consecutive weeks at the top of the pile, and 220 overall, while Federer still holds the record for total weeks at No. 1, with 302, and most consecutive weeks, with 237.Murray must make sure his reign goes longer than a fortnight. Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Scontate . Barcelonas entertaining victory ensured the defending Spanish champions retained their share of the league lead with Atletico Madrid two rounds ahead of their meeting in the capital. Defencemen Drew Doughty, Shea Weber and forward Ryan Getzlaf also scored for the Canadians, who started their gold-medal defence 2-0. Goalie Roberto Luongo, getting the call in place of Game 1 starter Carey Price, was solid when needed in making 23 saves for the shutout. http://www.yeezy350v2italia.it/ . Third-seeded Murray had the easiest path to victory on New Years Eve, barely breaking a sweat during his 6-0, 6-0 win over 2,129th-ranked Qatari wildcard recipient Mousa Shanan Zayed. NEW YORK -- In the last month, Masahiro Tanaka has been a sure thing on the mound for the New York Yankees.Tanaka takes a five-game winning streak to the mound Saturday afternoon when the Yankees continue their playoff pursuit in the third contest of a four-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium.Tanaka is 12-4 with a 3.11 ERA. He is fourth in the American League in ERA, sixth with a 1.08 WHP, third in walks per nine innings (1.56) and fourth in strikeouts to walk ratio (4.84).The right-hander also has allowed two runs or fewer in 19-of-28 starts this season, tied for the most in the American League. He is seventh in innings at 179 1/3 and during his last 39, Tanaka is 5-0 with a 2.08 ERA.Tanakas last loss was at the New York Mets on Aug. 2, when the Yankees were 53-53, 7 1/2 games out of first place and 5 1/2 back in the wild-card race. The next day, Gary Sanchez was promoted, Alex Rodriguez played his last game the following week and since Tanakas last loss, the Yankees (75-65) are 22-12 while one game out of the second wild-card spot and four out of first. Were trying to get in, Yankees closer Dellin Betances said. Thats our goal.Tanaka allowed two runs and seven innings in 6 1/3 innings of a 5-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. Although this year is similar to his rookie season of 2014, Tanaka said he feels more in control even if his high standards are not quite good enough.Im not overly satisfied with the overall way of pitching, how Im pitching this year, Tanaka said. ... But this year I feel like Im more in control of myself compared to the first year. In that sense, I feel sort of a sense of maybe satisfaction compared to the first year.Tanaka will be pitching after Sanchez hit his 12th home run and Mark Teixeira belted aa grand slam in Fridays 7-4 victory that was slowed by three rain delays totaling 94 minutes.ddddddddddddThe Rays have dropped five of six since getting the first two from Toronto last weekend and clinched a non-winning season at 59-81. They increased their home run total to 190 after Logan Morrison and Steven Souza Jr. hit back-to-back homers off Michael Pineda. Were playing at Yankee Stadium, were playing Toronto, were playing in Baltimore, were going to Texas, those games are going to be packed with atmosphere, packed with people, Rays manager Kevin Cash said of the rest of the season.Tampa Bay received a laborous 2 2/3-inning outing from Blake Snell on Friday and hopes Chris Archer can continue pitching decently and give them some distance.Archer is 8-17 with a 4.06 ERA. His next loss will tie the team record set by Tanyon Sturtze, who was 4-18 in 2002.Archer has taken losses despite leading the league with 211 strikeouts. You take away the win-loss record, which is obviously not ideal, you look at the other numbers and theyre pretty good, Rays manager Kevin Cash said.Archer is 4-5 with a 3.03 ERA in his 10 starts since the All-Star break and his ERA is the lowest since it was 3.60 following his first start of the season. Archer last pitched Sunday against Toronto and allowed two runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts.Archer is 5-4 with a 2.52 ERA in 12 career starts against the Yankees. He is 0-4 with a 3.15 ERA in his last six starts against the Yankees and last faced them Aug. 12 in New York, when he allowed Alex Rodriguezs RBI double in his final game and gave up five runs and seven hits in six innings. TORONTO -- The team that was built to beat Canada didnt beat anyone. And really, this ending was just about perfect. If youre going to go down in flames, go all the way.Team USA most certainly did, ending its disappointing World Cup appearance with a 4-3 loss to the Czech Republic on Thursday. The American players were booed off the ice by the at the Air Canada Centre crowd at the conclusion of the game.Team USA pushed back in a meaningless game after trailing by two goals through two periods of play, to at least avoid a meltdown reminiscent of the 5-0 loss in the bronze-medal game in Sochi during the 2014 Olympics, but its very small consolation in a disastrous tournament. They were given a spot in the easiest World Cup group, with Team Europe and Czech Republic the consensus No. 7 and No. 8 teams in this tournament. Team USA managed just three goals against those two teams.During the second period against the Czechs, Team USA defenseman Ryan Suter scored an own-goal, one that gave the Czech Republic its second goal of the game and it was a moment that pretty much captured the whole tournament for the Americans. So many of their problems in this tournament were self-inflicted -- from questionable roster decisions to forgetting to show up on time against Team Europe in the opener, an underwhelming performance in which they never recovered.Justin Abdelkader, whose inclusion on the first draft of the Team USA roster became a point of debate for those who disagreed with GM Dean Lombardis plan, got a small bit of redemption with his first goal of the tournament, converting on a great feed from Dustin Byfuglien, but it was a rare highlight in this tournament for the Americans.Team USA finishes 0-3 with a goal-differential of minus-6, which pushed Finland at the bottom of the standings. For a team that entered this World Cup with aspirations of winning it all, its as disappointing a final tally as could have been imagined.Three stars:1. Milan Michalek, F, Team Czech Republic: Sure, one of his goals came when Suter inadvertently knocked the puck past Team USA goalie Ben Bishop, but he finished with two goals for a team that struggles to score. Thats worthy of top billing. The Michalek family can leave this tournament with pride, with Milan and Zbynek combining for three goals in the game.2. Petr Mrazek, G, Czech Republic: He allowed three goals but came up big when needed most in the third period. He absolutely robbed Patrick Kane with a sprawling save in the third period while the Czech Republic was clinging on to a one-goal lead. He made another one on Abdelkader with just over two minutes left. He finished with 36 saves.3. Ryan McDonagh, D, Team USA: His shorthanded goal gave the game new life and actually showed his team wasnt willing to roll over without some fight in the third period. There were a lot of problems with Team USA in this tournament, but McDonagh wasnt one of them. He ended up with the team lead in goals, with two. Junior Fernandez . Hey!" ARLINGTON, Texas -- George Springer set a positive tone right away for the Houston Astros against Yu Darvish. And they held on to avoid a late-season sweep, beating AL-best Texas 7-6 on Sunday and ending the Rangers seven-game winning streak.Springer led off the game with his 26th homer and scored his 100th run, and the Astros jumped out to a 5-0 lead against Darvish, whose shortest outing of the season lasted only four innings. That was a big win for us on a lot of levels. No. 1, to jump out ahead on Darvish, manager A.J. Hinch said. Its a good feeling getting on the plane, obviously, to salvage a game. The Astros, who have 24 games left, are still 9 1/2 games behind Texas in the AL West, and have won only three of 16 games against their division rival this season. And they have only three more head-to-head meetings remaining.Evan Gattis also homered for the Astros, though he struck out in each of his other four at-bats. His 24th homer was a solo shot in the fifth for a 6-2 lead right.Darvish (5-4), in his shortest outing this season, allowed five runs in four innings. He struck out four, walked three and had two wild pitches.Got him out of the game and got into their bullpen and fortunate enough to come out of here with a win, said rookie Alex Bregman, who had three hits. Thats what you have to do against good teams like this, get ahead of them early and continue to apply pressure.Chris Devenski (3-4) pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings after taking over for starter Collin McHugh with one out in bottom of the fifth when the Rangers still had a runner on base and had already scored three runs in the inning to get within 6-5.I hung some. I made some good pitches, and I made some bad pitches. All the bad pitches got hit, McHugh said. Anything you can win a game on the road in the division, its a commodity. You take `em where you can get `em. Its not the prettiest of wins, especially here.CLOSING IT OUTKen Giles pitched the ninth for his eighth save in 11 chances. SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, Belgium -- Fernando Alonso will start the Belgian Grand Prix behind Lewis Hamilton at the back of the grid after a qualifying engine failure forced Honda into another engine change.Alonso stopped on track having failed to complete a lap in Q1, his second failure of the weekend with Hondas upgraded power unit. His first came after a water leak on the MGU-H in FP1, which led to a new engine and grid penalty ahead of second practice, before an anomaly was detected on Saturday morning in FP3. Despite that anomaly, Honda felt Alonso would be fine to compete in qualifying -- something F1 chief Yusuke Hasegawa admits was a mistake. This morning we saw some low oil pressure, so we had to stop the session, Hasegawa said. We checked the data, and we adjusted the oil pressure. We thought we could do that, and take a risk to join qualifying. Actually my judgement was a mistake and it was not good, so we have to change the engine for tomorrow.Despite the succession of power unit failures with its upgrade, which Honda spent seven development tokens on, Hasegawa does not think there is a deeper problem with the manufacturers new power unit.So far we believe it is a coincidence and not related to the new-specification update engine. But we have to be mindful that we have not had enough time to check the engine.Alonso will now get another penalty ahead of the grand prix, which comes on top of the 35-place penalty he had already incurred with the initial change. If Honda changes all six components he will be left with a 70-place grid penalty -- five more than Lewis Hamilton has accumulated this weekend after several changes by Mercedes. However, Alonso was already due to start from the back of the grid after he failed to set a time in Q1 and was reliant on the stewards giving him permission to race, which the duly did on Saturday evening. A trio of swings from Nelson Cruz, Mike Zunino and Adam Lind were enough to bring that long winning streak to an end.Cruz, Zunino and Lind all hit solo home runs, Hisashi Iwakuma threw 7 1/3 shutout innings and the Seattle Mariners beat the Boston Red Sox 3-1 on Wednesday night.Seattle handed Porcello his first loss since May 17, snapping a streak of eight straight wins by the Boston right-hander. Porcello (14-3) had allowed one home run in his previous seven starts before losing on three solo homers in a ballpark known for not yielding the long ball.It doesnt happen very often where you feel like youre throwing the ball well but you give up three home runs. Its just kind of one of those things I cant really explain right now, Porcello said. They did a good job.Cruz hit his 27th homer of the season leading off the second inning, Zunino hit his fifth leading off the sixth and Lind capped Seattles scoring with his 16th of the season with two outs in the seventh. They were the only three hits allowed by Porcello until Zuninos single in the eighth. The three home runs by Seattle accounted for the only three costly mistakes Porcello made in an otherwise strong start. Cruzs homer was estimated at 441 feet and reached the second deck in left field. Zuninos traveled 427 feet to center on a night when swirling wind appeared to be knocking down fly balls to that part of the outfield. And Lind kept his fly ball fair down the right-field line to give Seattle a 3-0 lead.Porcello struck out eight and walked one.He made a couple of mistakes and we got on him, Seattle manager Scott Servais said. Big night by Zunino. That is big-time power to go out of the park in that spot there.Iwakuma (12-7) rebounded from a season-worst performance against the Chicago Cubs to limit Boston to five hits, a team that had given him problems in the past. In five previous starts against the Red Sox, Iwakuma had allowed 21 earned runs in 22 innings. He was dominant from the start this time, striking out four of his first five batters. Only one runner reached second base in the first seven innings against Iwakuma.dddddddddddd. Top prospect Andrew Benintendi got his first major league hit in the third and advanced to second on Brock Holts two-out single. Benintendi was stranded when Xander Bogaerts fouled out.Iwakuma struck out seven and walked none, leaving in the eighth after Benintendis second hit. Mookie Betts greeted reliever Drew Storen with a single to advance Benintendi to second, but he was stranded there again after Bogaerts flied out to the warning track in left.I was able to command my fastball, and my fastball I think had more life than usual, Iwakuma said through a translator.ELECTRIC EDWINPitching for the fourth time in five games, Mariners rookie Edwin Diaz gave up a run in the ninth but earned his second career save. Diaz allowed a single and a hit batter, then threw a wild pitch to put runners on second and third with one out. Travis Shaws RBI groundout scored Jackie Bradley Jr., but Diaz got Sandy Leon for the final out on an excellent defensive play by second baseman Robinson Cano in shallow right field.I felt good. It was just mechanics, Diaz said. I was feeling great.TRAINERS ROOMRed Sox: 1B Hanley Ramirez was out of the lineup with a sprained left wrist after slipping and falling after Tuesday nights loss. The FIA has revised its F1 superlicence points table to include Formula E and V8 Supercars. The addition of both series to the points list means they are considered a viable route in to Formula One by the governing body. All-electric series Formula E, set for the finale of its second season this weekend, ?has been weighted on equal terms to IndyCar, World Endurance Championship (WEC) and European Formula 3.To drive in Formula One, drivers must have accumulated 40 points during the three years preceding his or her application, with the results of a maximum of two championships allowed to be recognised during one calendar year. The champion of Formula E will receive 40 points, with second and third getting 30 and 20 respectively. The FIAs planned F2 championship, which is yet to be launched, still has the highest weighted points, followed by current F1 feeder series GP2.V8 Supercars is further down the list, with the champion only getting 13 points, with the next seven drivers in the standings getting 11, 9, 6, 4, 3, 2 and 1 respectively. That puts it below the likes of World Touring Car Championship, DTM and the IndyLights series. Fernando Alonso says McLaren can still live up to its own expectations if it overhauls Toro Rosso in the Singapore Grand Prix after struggling more than expected in qualifying.Ahead of the weekend Alonso and teammate Jenson Button predicted the team could be fourth fastest in Singapore but the Spaniard had to settle for ninth behind Toro Rosso pair Carlos Sainz and Daniil Kvyat and Force Indias Nico Hulkenberg. Alonso is not too disappointed with his spot on the fifth row because he thinks Toro Rossos car is suited to Marina Bay.When asked what McLaren was missing and why it was not the fourth quickest car as predicted, he replied: Well I think we are more or less in that position, just Toro Rosso is surprisingly good here, or lets say they have a car that is good for a street circuit, with a lot of down force, a lot of drag but we know that after this track we should be in front of them regularly. We are still aiming to be the fourth quickest team for the rest of season and tomorrow hopefully finish in front of them. Its damage limitation tomorrow in terms of constructor points and attack from Malaysia on.The two-time world champion thinks McLaren should bbe pleased with how close it came to living up to expectations.ddddddddddddI think the job is done I think being in Q3 and being in the points of Sunday. Q3 is done so now lets wait and see for tomorrow. We seem to be struggling more than expected. However, Alonso, who only made it into the Q3 shootout with a last-gasp lap late in the middle session, was at a loss to describe why McLaren struggled so much for pace.I think the pace unfortunately was not great and we struggled a little bit in Q2. We saw one car going out and then in Q3 just ninth but its the way it is. Hopefully tomorrow we can do a good start, a good strategy and score some big points. At the moment the pace seems to not to come to us too easy.We have to be optimistic, always things happen in Singapore. There is a lot of action in the race, a lot of safety cars, a lot of incidents so we have to be ready to be flexible in terms of our strategy but I think the start and the first couple of laps and the pit stop time will be crucial so we need to study well tonight. Nothing from the outside has really thrown us off our game. How high can his win total go?I dont look at a number, he said. If we continue to build like this, who knows what the bar is for our team. ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Derek Carrs first NFL win came against Kansas City after 10 straight losses to begin his career.Since then, Carr and the Oakland Raiders havent had nearly as much success against the Chiefs.Carr will look to end Oaklands four-game losing streak to the Chiefs when the Raiders (10-2) visit Kansas City (9-3) on Thursday night in a game that could determine the winner of the AFC West.To be honest, its the Groundhog Day thing, Carr said. Everyone asks, `Theyve beaten you this many times, and these things and all of that. When Im preparing for these guys, it never goes through my head. That stuff never has a determining factor on anything I write down, anything that goes on in my brain or anything like that. I just prepare for them just like I do any other game. While the preparation might be the same, the results havent been for Carr against the Chiefs. He has completed just 58 percent of his passes in five starts against the Chiefs for 219.6 yards per game, six touchdowns, five interceptions and a 72.0 passer rating. Those numbers are far below his career averages.Carr will have to do better if the Raiders want to take control of the tightly packed division race with a win, moving two games up with three to go. A loss would leave Kansas City and Oakland tied with the Chiefs owning the tiebreaker by virtue of sweeping the season series. Denver goes into the weekend two games behind Oakland. It just shows how good our division is, Carr said. I think its a cool thing to be honest. I think its awesome. Competition brings the best out of everybody. Its been like that all year. Weve all been right there with each other and weve all been pushing each other. Its fun, man. After leading the late touchdown drive to beat Kansas City at home on a Thursday night in 2014 for his first win in his 11th career start, Carr has come up short against Kansas City.He couldnt get Oakland in the end zone until the closing minute of a 31-13 loss in his second meeting in 2014. Critical mistakes have done him in since then.Carr threw three fourth-quarter interceptions in the first meeting last year, including one returned for a touchdown, to set up three TDs for Kansas City in a 34-20 Oakland loss at home. He was intercepted again in a loss at Kansas City to end the 2015 season. Then in the first meeting this year, Carr led a touchdown drive to open the game before being intercepted by Marcus Peters on the second drive. Oakland got only one field goal the rest of the way in a 26-10 loss that was one of the only games in coach Jack Del Rios two-year tenure when Oakland was never within one score in the fourth quarter.Carr has been otherwise spectacular this season, leading five fourth-quarter comebacks as he is on pace to set career bests with a 65.5 completion percentage, 7.4 yards per attempt and a 100.3 passer rating. Carr has 24 TD passes with only five interceptions.I just think hes mature, Del Rio said. Hes mature. Hes a young player. Hes maturing and thats probably the thing that Im most pleased with. Obviously, the productivity is awesome, but the way he has conducted himself, the maturity, the handling it, continuing to heap praise on his teammates, to make it more about us, not about anything hes doing individually. Its more about us as a team. I think thats really healthy for us.Game notes The Raiders practiced without helmets as Del Rio tries to keep the team fresh on the short week. ... Drew, who last played June 17, entered with one out and drove a pitch off the center-field scoreboard. Rendon raced around the bases for the winning run.He was on the bench a few innings tonight, Baker said of Drew. Other than that, we had sent him home. Not eating. Couldnt hold any food. I think he lost seven or eight pounds. ... Im sure this will make him feel better.Just in time based on Drews description of the high-fever scenario. Its been crazy, said Drew, who chose to sit down on a chair when speaking with reporters. I dont want to say on TV, but its been ugly.Jonathan Papelbon (2-2) allowed a leadoff double in the ninth before retiring three straight batters. San Diego left runners in scoring position in each of the last two innings.Max Scherzer struck out 10 over seven innings. Washingtons starter surrendered two runs and four hits, including a two-run homer to Ryan Schimpf.Edwin Jackson allowed two runs and six hits over six innings for the Padres.San Diego fell to 1-5 on its 10-game road trip. The Padres snapped a four-game skid with a 5-3 win Friday. Both of those hits were hanging breaking balls in the middle of the plate, Padres manager Andy Green said of the ninth inning. (Stephen) hadnt been on the field in six or seven days and comes out and has a great at-bat for them and wins the game.Scherzer struck out three of the first five batters, but Schimpf struck back for the Padres in the second, turning on a 2-0 fastball for a towering drive deep over the right-field wall for a 2-0 lead. The homer was the 22nd allowed this season by Scherzer, most in the NL, extended San Diegos franchise record of 21 straight games with a home run. It was Schhimpfs eighth this month.dddddddddddd.His fastballs good, so I just tried to get geared up to get a good pitch to drive, Schimpf said. The All-Star recovered and retired 15 of the final 16 batters he faced. Since June 1, Scherzer is 5-2 with a 1.71 ERA in 10 starts. If you fall behind and throw fastballs in this league, youre going to get beat, Scherzer said of the home run. I also wasnt going to let that mistake define my outing. He struck out at least 10 for the eighth time this season and 44th over his career. Scherzer allowed one run over six innings with 10 strikeouts in a no-decision at San Diego on June 18.NL batting leader Daniel Murphys third-inning sacrifice fly cut San Diegos lead in half.Washington tied the score 2-2 in the fifth with a pair of doubles. Ben Revere stepped into the batters box 2 for 20 on the homestand before stroking the ball into the right-field corner, scoring Danny Espinosa.Travis Jankowski tripled with two outs in the eighth, but Nationals reliever Shawn Kelley ended the threat by striking out Wil Myers looking.DOUBLED UPScherzer retired Matt Kemp twice before the outfielder doubled in the sixth inning. Kemp entered the at-bat 1 for 29 (.034) career against Scherzer.TRAINERS ROOMPadres: RHP Tyson Ross (right shoulder inflammation), out since Opening Day, recently threw from 250 feet.
