COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The St. Louis Blues take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday at Nationwide Arena to close out the season series between the two teams. The Blues (7-5-3) dropped a 3-1 decision to the Central Division-rival Nashville Predators on Thursday. They have only scored twice in their last two games, with the paucity of goals beginning to be an issue that needs to be addressed.I think after a while you start living on one goal, youre not going to win many games, coach Ken Hitchcock told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.The Blues have scored one goal or fewer in eight of their 15 games this season and two goals just twice in the last 12 games. St. Louis has allowed six more goals than it scored. We had chances to score more than one goal, left winger Jaden Schwartz said to the Post-Dispatch. We couldnt find a way and only end up scoring one. Its tough to keep winning when you only score one or two goals. In addition to low goal-scoring, the Blues are taking too many penalties. Theyve taken two too-many-men-on-the-ice penalties in the last two games, and are getting called for delay-of-game penalties for flipping the puck into the stands as well.Scoring goals is hard and its a matter of sacrificing your body, St. Louis right winger Scottie Upshall said. Its a matter of going to the net and winning puck battles, things weve been good at doing. Right now, were taking the easy way out.The Blue Jackets (6-4-2) are coming off a 5-2 loss at the Boston Bruins on Thursday. Boston scored four goals in a span of 4:01 in the first period, chasing goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky after making five saves on nine shots.Uncharacteristically, Columbus committed numerous unforced turnovers and saw errant passes by both the forwards and defensemen. It was forwards, it was defensemen ... and the worst part is we hang out Bob in a game like that when hes been playing so well, Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno said to the Columbus Dispatch. We hung him out to dry.The Blue Jackets are hoping the loss at Boston can be marked as an aberration, and not a precursor of a deeper issue. They have been playing consistent hockey and getting some fortuitous puck bounces through the 11 games played prior to Thursdays contest. Were out of the game pretty quickly, coach John Tortorella told the Dispatch. We havent been in very many of those games this year. We take our medicine (in Boston), regroup on Friday (an off day) and start again on Saturday.Columbus has offensive firepower with center Alexander Wennberg, rookie defenseman Zach Werenski and left wingers Foligno and Brandon Saad all with double digits in points. The Blue Jackets have scored nine more goals than theyve allowed this season.Wennberg has a league-leading 13 assists in 12 games entering play on Friday. He also leads the team in points (14), with Foligno leading Columbus with five goals. Werenski has three goals and eight assists and Saad has four goals and six assists.Among NHL rookies, Werenski is second in assists and third in points entering play on Friday. Zach Randolph Jersey . While hell be dialed in to that tournament on a course he loves, you can forgive him if his eyes glance down the calendar just a bit, towards April. https://www.cheapgrizzlies.com/ . - Chris Tierney snapped a tie with a power-play goal late in the third period as the London Knights rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Erie Otters 5-3 in Ontario Hockey League action on Wednesday. Grizzlies Jerseys China . Philadelphia is 2-0 against the Senators this season and scored five goals in each victory. The Flyers recorded a 5-0 win in Ottawa on Nov. 12 and then earned a 5-2 home decision on Nov. 19. The Flyers have claimed three straight and four of the last five encounters with the Sens overall and Philly has won two in a row and three of its past four tests in Canadas capital city. John Konchar Jersey . 1 position. The Mustangs (6-0), who beat Queens 50-31 last weekend, earned 17 first-place votes and 287 points in voting by the Football Reporters of Canada. Western was last ranked first in the country in October 2011.Gary Neville will help select Englands final squad before Euro 2016 via a conference call from Spain on Wednesday before linking up with the national team next week. Neville gave up his media commitments, including his role as a Sky Sports News pundit, when he was appointed Valencia manger in December, but England manager Roy Hodgson was happy for the former Manchester United defender to continue in his role as assistant. The former England international is preparing Valencia for a Europa League last-16 clash with Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, but will spend some of Wednesday afternoon helping to select Englands squad ahead of upcoming friendlies against Germany and the Netherlands, with the squad to be announced on Thursday. Roy Hodgson and Gary Neville at a previous England training session Neville has endured an indifferent spell at Valencia, but will join up with Roy Hodgsons side during the international break as planned.Injuries rule out England captain Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw, Fabian Delph, Danny Ings or Charlie Austin, but Danny Welbeck could return to the international fold for the first time in a year having recently made his first-team return with Arsenal. Hodgson will experiment with players during friendlies against Germany and Netherlands in the build-up to Euro 2016 Manchester United teenager Marcus Rashford is not expected to be included despite his remarkable emergence, but Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge and Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster look likely to be involved after recovering from injury.dddddddddddd Also See: England latest England fixtures England stats Table ' ' '

What do you get for a team that needs everything? A point guard is a good start. In a league driven these days by the exploits of pick-and-roll wizards, the Brooklyn Nets played the entire 2015-16 season without one. By landing Jeremy Lin on the first day of free agency, the Nets filled a hole that opened up when they released Deron Williams a year ago.But did they fill it well? Does Lin deserve a starting role? Vapormax Pas Cher Du Tout . -- Aldon Smith believes he is on the path to being sober for good. The second-ranked Norwegian made her season debut after missing the LPGA Tours opening event last month in the Bahamas because of a shoulder injury. Vapormax 2019 Femme Pas Cher . Mitch Holmberg added a goal and three assists. Connor Chartier also scored for the Chiefs (3-0-0). Luke Harrison spoiled Garrett Hughsons shutout bid with a power-play goal at 13:17 of the third period. The Spokane goaltender finished with 28 saves, including a Brandon Fushimi penalty shot in the second period that would have tied the game 1-1. Vapormax 2019 Noir Pas Cher . Paul Pierce couldnt believe he missed at the end. Young scored a season-high 26 points to spark a huge effort from the leagues most productive bench, and Los Angeles beat the Brooklyn Nets 99-94 on Wednesday night after blowing a 27-point lead. Greg Chappell was at the other end when I walked out to bat at the MCG in my first Test match. He was about 50-odd not out. Andy Roberts had just taken the second new ball and I thought Greg would do the right thing here by the young bloke and take over for a bit. I finished the final hour of the day 44 not out and Greg faced about six balls.Ian Chappell was an outstanding captain because he always wanted to change the game. Hed always place himself in front of the team when things got tough. In the mid-70s, the Sheffield Shield was renowned as the best first class competition in the world.I remember playing against Hoggy when we were in the under-13 churches competition. He was ten and I was nine.I fielded short leg, and the two hardest blokes Ive ever had to judge were Viv Richards and Greg Chappell, because they both played the ball so very late. Usually you can have a look at the batsmans feet and have an idea if the ball is going to go off side or leg side, or what shot is coming, but they both played the ball so late and whipped it from off to leg really quickly.I bowled a lot in Sheffield Shield cricket, first change, second change. I probably wasnt quick enough against the really good players.I opened the batting with Bill Lawry as a 15-year-old, for Northcote Cricket Club in Victoria. Bill played district cricket like he played Test cricket. Hed play five games and score 800 runs.Night Test matches will be great. Pinkish ball will swing like hell. The batsmen will struggle, but itll be great practice for guys to go to England, because its exactly how the ball behaves in England.Bobby Simpson, when he came back to captain Australia, aged 42, had no experienced players around him other than Jeff Thomson. He didnt have the players around him to do well. He gave me a bowl, though, so he mustve been a good captain, I suppose!I was disappointed to be the only one from the Centenary Test team who was left out of the Packer squad. I never had any explanation as to why I wasnt picked. In England in 1977, we struggled for a start to the innings. Richie Robinson even opened in the first Test, at Lords [hed scored 70 in the third one-dayer as an opener]. Rick McCosker didnt get any runs, Ian Davis didnt get that many.Hoggy would have played for Victoria, as a youngster, except he didnt like to train that hard, particularly on hot days.I was told to open against* India in 1977-78. Id opened in club cricket when I was younger and for Victoria when I was 18. But I hadnt opened for eight years, although batting at six you got the second new ball a lot. It was really out of the blue. I didnt expect to open. They didnt discuss it with me. Just said, Youre opening. So I opened.I think 50-over cricket was introduced because it was going to be exciting. Now its exciting for the first ten overs and the last ten. The middle stuff is as boring as bat shit. There was a lot of pressure on the guys in World Series and the guys outside. Between the World Series guys and the organising state associations. A lot of animosity. And no matter what they say, there was.Against West Indies, if Roberts or [Michael] Holding didnt get you, there was Colin Croft and Joel Garner. Garner made a huge difference. He was a bit like Thommo, made it fly from nowhere. He had a great yorker. Then Wayne Daniel, and after that, Malcolm Marshall. It was just relentless.I learnt very quickly [on debut] that the captains position is at the other end when the second new ball comes on. Lets throw the young bloke in. But it worked out okay. And who was I to doubt Gregs method of batting? By lunch the next day, I was 99 not out. Only the second player ever to be 99 not out at a break, on debut. The first was Alan Kippax and he got out for 99 first ball after lunch. I was told this later. First ball after lunch, Andy Roberts came back on. I played and missed outside off stump. Next ball I hit for four.I played my first Shield game as a 16-year-old for Victoria. I was 12th man.We were washed out for six weeks at the start oof the 1977 England tour.dddddddddddd We probably played once or twice in the first six weeks we were there. Things were okay in the team, at first, and then, of course the Packer thing happened. Once that broke, it kind of broke the team. Despite all the best intentions of everybody, I dont think anybody who was on the tour would say that we were a united team once that started to evolve.I love our Big Bash. I think its so good for cricket. If you can get 40,000 people to the Adelaide Oval for a cricket match, then something has got to be right.I played the worst cricket I ever played at the Centenary Test. Id been at the MCG as a Test batsman twice before and scored hundreds both times.I didnt get picked for the Australian team to go to India in 1979-80, but I think I was really close. Id been bowling offspin all year to try and get on that tour. With the coming together of World Series Cricket a year earlier than we expected, I realised that life in Queensland was not going to be as pleasant as it had been before. When the ball was swinging, I bowled okay. Ian Chappell was the outstanding captain. Greg was the outstanding player. Probably the best player Ive ever seen. Even better than Viv Richards. The boys [on the 1977 Ashes tour] didnt know whether they were expected to play for Australia when they got back, plus a few games for Packer. Then they couldnt and there were lawyers everywhere. It was just really difficult. The India opening bowlers [in 1977-78] werent any better than any Australian district attack and probably werent the standard of a lot of district attacks. Then the spinners came on, early of course, and it was game on.If you werent playing for Australia by the time you were 29 or 30, the state selectors were looking for someone to take your place.I got five wickets in a one dayer against England in 1977 and then got dropped for the next game. They brought back Jeff Thomson, which was fair enough.I stood at slip for five years to Hoggy at Northcote and he bowled as fast as anybody did, probably except for Thommo and Holding. He was able to put the wind up the opposition when he wanted to turn up.There was some residual stuff for me from the World Series days. I didnt enjoy it and I thought, right, thats it. Im going back home, to Victoria. As soon as it started to come back on me personally, then rightly or wrongly, I said, Bugger it.T20 has reinvigorated 50-over cricket a little bit. Teams are scoring more runs because of how they play T20.England had a pretty good side in 1977. Brilliant captain in Mike Brearley, who was great for England cricket. The bowlers swung the ball, very good attack. They also had probably the best slips-catching cordon that Id ever seen. They were fantastic. And they were all bowlers: [Tony Greig] Greigy, [Ian] Botham, [Mike] Hendrick, [Chris] Old, [Bob] Willis had a go.Back in district cricket, I opened the bowling, used to bowl quite well in Shield cricket. But once it got to international level, the guys who were skilled in that area did most of the work.It was obvious that Viv Richards was going to be a really good batsman, even back in 1975-76. And he was out of this world as fieldsman as well, of course. He had that swagger back then too. Viv was the man before he was the man.Without the Packer players, when Australia played Test cricket, there was no sequence to our play, no experience, nothing to fall back on. We just hoped it wasnt going to be too bad, next time. Thats kind of the rut you get into. Im sure England went through that a lot, for about 20 years.Test match cricket is okay today. The batsmen have it a little easier than when I played. One bouncer an over, or whatever it is. The wickets are flatter. The performance of batsmen is improving. The runs theyre scoring is racking up and up.*02:40:44 GMT, July 4, 2016: The article originally said open in India, which has been corrected ' ' '

the conditions of the Longacres Mile at Emerald

ARCADIA, Calif. -- This Breeders Cup Dirt Mile is about reinvention.Dortmund is trying to reinvent himself as a miler after going down the Triple Crown trail last year at age 3 and this year finding the Breeders Cup Classic road too rugged, with potholes like California Chrome out there.Runhappy is attempting a second act as a two-turn horse after winning the Breeders Cup Sprint last year and being named the years champion male sprinter.Gun Runner is trying to graduate from the nations best races restricted to 3-year-olds to facing accomplished older horses.Toms Ready is trying to show he can be as effective going two turns as he is around one.And Vyjack is trying to parlay a move to California into the richest payday of his career. Those five are part of a nine-horse field entered in the second of the Breeders Cup races that will be run Friday at Santa Anita. The Dirt Mile, with a purse of $1 million, is the seventh race on the 10-race card.Dortmund will be favored, despite not having won a race in 11 months. He is 0-for-3 this year, but theres a darn good reason for that -- he ran against California Chrome every time. After Dortmund finished second in the San Diego, third in the Pacific Classic, and second last time out in the Awesome Again, it was clear to trainer Bob Baffert that he needed a different assignment -- at a shorter distance, in a race without California Chrome. The Dirt Mile -- at a track where Dortmund won the 2015 Santa Anita Derby and has lost only once in six starts -- was the right spot.Martin Garcia is reunited with Dortmund for this race, and they have a terrific record in concert -- seven wins out of nine starts, and 5-for-5 at Santa Anita.Runhappy got a late start to the year, finally returning five weeks ago following a nine-month layoff. He faded to fourth in the one-mile Ack Ack on Oct. 1 at Churchill Downs. Were playing catch-up, theres no question, said Laura Wohlers, who trains Runhappy. Ideally, we wanted to start him out in a sprint and then move to a mile, but it didnt work out.Its a challenge, coming off a layoff. He needed his last race. Hes had one run. He didnt win, but hes training well. If he gets a good trip, I think hell give a good account of himself.Runhappy did turn in a sharp final workout here, indicating hes at least retained his keen early speed. Dortmund also has been prominent early, so there figures to be a lively pace.If so, that will help Gun Runner, the remarkably consistent 3-year-old who figures to get an ideal trip and touted himself with a fine work Sunday morning.Hes matured a lot, said Scott Blasi, the top assistant to trainer Steve Asmussen. Physically, hes filled out. Hes gotten deeper. Hes gotten faster as the years gone on.Gun Runner was third in the Kentucky Derby, and his subsequent starts have included such prestigious races as the Haskell and Travers.Hes just solid, Blasi said. Hes danced every dance. Hes a quality horse. Were lucky to have him.Toms Ready, like Gun Runner, spent Derby prep season in Louisiana. After finishing 12th in the Kentucky Derby, he has raced three times, all around one turn. He won twice, including when defeating Runhappy in the Ack Ack. Hes yet to win around two turns.Vyjack, a graduate of the Derby class of 2013, was sent west this summer after making his first 25 starts in the Eastern time zone. He won the City of Hope, a one-mile grass race, here in his last start and was a solid second behind sprint star Masochistic in the Pat OBrien at seven furlongs on dirt at Del Mar. His effectiveness on any surface makes him dangerous.Accelerate, Point Piper, Tamarkuz and Texas Chrome round out the field.Accelerate is taking a major leap in class after winning lesser stakes restricted to 3-year-olds in his past two starts.Point Piper will appreciate a return to a two-turn mile -- the conditions of the Longacres Mile at Emerald, which he won in August -- after having finished fourth in the Kelso, a one-turn mile at Belmont. We think hell like two turns better than one, said his trainer and co-owner, Jerry Hollendorfer. He needs pace to run at. He should get it in this race.Tamarkuz was second in the Kelso. He has had a steady diet of one-turn races in New York since arriving last year from Dubai, so hes a question mark going two turns.Texas Chrome is riding a three-race win streak, all in stakes restricted to 3-year-olds in Louisiana and Oklahoma. Fifth place Dallas and sixth-seeded Nashville also have 26 points, but the Stars have three games in hand on Winnipeg while Nashville has two.Canadian Daniel Nestor reached the semifinals in mixed doubles on Monday alongside partner Kristina Mladenovic of France. The fifth-seeded pair defeated Nestors former doubles partner, Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia, and fellow third-seed Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Nestor and Mladenovic will play Cara Black of Zimbabwe and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan in the semifinals.dddddddddddd Nestor, 40, has won two mixed doubles Grand Slam titles - both at the Australian Open in 2007 and 2011. SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Sharks will begin the second round of the playoffs somewhat short-handed after losing forward Adam Burish to an undisclosed upper-body injury. Burish got hurt during the teams 4-3 overtime win over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night that wrapped up the first playoff sweep in franchise history. Burish did not return to that game after being slashed by Vancouvers Alexander Edler late in the second period. Burishs right hand was wrapped in the dressing room after the game. Despite being a fourth-line player who had just one goal and two assists, Burish made key contributions as one of the teams more physical players and as a reliable penalty killer. He played the third most minutes of any San Jose forward killing penalties in the regular season. "Its a tough loss," defenceman Dan Boyle said. "Hes one of those guys who doesnt necessarily end up on the score sheet but having played against him he gets under other guys skin. He certainly got under mine when he was in Chicago. You kind of need that going forward. When the top guys are thinking about certain players versus what they have to do on the ice, thats a bonus for us." Burish also brings a strong locker room presence based in part on his experience from winning the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2010. Coach Todd McLellan expects Burish to maintain that role even as he is sidelined by the injury. "Were definitely going to miss him out there but I think hes a type of player that he will make sure that hes around and talk to players and keeping everybody focused in the right direction," forward Patrick Marleau said. "It will be great to have that part still. But on the ice being a penalty killer, faceoff guy. Its going to be an opportunity for other guys to step up and try to fill that void." The injury news was better on other fronts for the Sharks as forward Marty Havlat took part in a light skate for the first time since leaving Game 1 of the Vancouver series with an injury. Havlat said he has no timetable for a possible return but McLellan was encouraged by the progress he has made. The injury to Burish opens up a forward spot, putting more importance on Havlats possible return. "This is the time that we dream of, the playoffs," he said. "The situation is what it is. Im just trying to get back as soon as possible." Defenceman Jason Demers also skated as he tries to return from a lower-body injury that has caused him to miss the final four games of the regular season and all four playoff games. Scott Hannan, acquired at the trade deadline from Nashville, has filled in admirably in the playoffs, forming a physical defensive pairing with Brad Stuart. With the second round not starting until next week, Havlat and Demers have time to recover and possibly make it back into the lineup. The time off is also welcome for players who accumulated plenty of bumps and bruises during the regular season and first-round matchup with the Canucks. Only a handful of players even skated Thursday as McLellan wanted to give his regulars a couple of days to clear their minds before turning their focus to the next round. The full team will plan to practice the next three days, by which time the Sharks could know their opponent and schedule for the second round. "The coaches Im sure are going to do a great job," Hannan said. "We as players got to come in and bring it in practice. You got to keep your game at the highest level and treat it that way in practice when youre out there. Just play hard." McLellan has assigned one coach to prepare for each of the potential second-round opponents: Chicago, St. Louis, Los Angeles and Detroit. The players wont start looking at video until that is determined. The Sharks had a similar layoff three years ago when they had a seven-day break between beating Detroit in five games in the second round and the start of the conference finals against Chicago. San Jose was swept in that series. "We would whine if we only had one day," McLellan said. "Now when we have five, people are looking for reasons for why it might not work. Its our job to make it work. Its our job to get prepared and be ready to play. The only answer to that question will be after Game 1, 2 or 3." DJ LeMahieu Jersey . -- If Henry Burris has his way, he will be the starting quarterback to lead the Hamilton Tiger-Cats back to the Grey Cup next year. Custom Thurman Munson Jersey .com) - The Pittsburgh Penguins placed forward James Neal on injured reserve Tuesday. http://www.customyankeesjersey.com/custom-joe-dimaggio-jersey-large-174i.html . R.J. Reassurance came from Paul Tesori, his caddie and close friend whose newborn son is in intensive care in a Florida hospital. "Paul sent me a text this morning, just told me he loved me and wanted to go out and fight as hard as I would any other day," Simpson said Sunday after doing just that. Thurman Munson Jersey Large . Louis Blues absence from top spot in the TSN. Veteran Mark Milligan has put the Socceroos improved away form in Asia down to maturity as they push to finish the year in a favourable position to qualify for Russia 2018.Australia are undefeated on the road in the final phase of World Cup qualifying, having toppled United Arab Emirates before drawing 2-2 with Saudi Arabia.Last months lacklustre 1-1 home draw with Japan saw them cede their position at the top of Group B.But should they beat Thailand in Bangkok next Tuesday, and Japan defeat new leaders Saudi on the same night, Ange Postecoglous second-placed men will close out 2016 back on the summit.Apart from setting them up well for the business end starting in March next year, Milligan said a win against Thailand would demonstrate how far the team have come.Compared to previously weve been much better away, Milligan said.Saudi and UAE, theyre not easy places to go and they are improving as footballing nations as well.It says a lot about this group, about the attitude we travel with and the way we go into games.I dont think weve gone into a game looking to take anything but three points and that positive attitude is showing.Winless Thailand present arguably the most straightforward challenge thus far, especially given the Socceroos extended preparation in Bangkok.Yet its also important Australia win to maintaiin their place as one of the top two teams.ddddddddddddThe entire 23-man squad have now arrived in Bangkok and underwent their first training session together at SCG Stadium on Wednesday. It follows news that first-choice striker Tomi Juric will be sidelined for up to six weeks with the knee injury that forced him out of the match.Scans confirmed the in-form forward, who scored against both Iraq and Saudi, has sustained ligament damage to his right knee playing for Swiss side FC Luzern.Surgery wont be needed, but taking into account the Swiss Super Leagues long Christmas break Juric probably wont play any minutes until February. In the unlikely worst-case scenario, he could be in a race against time to regain match fitness for Australias next set of qualifiers against Iraq and United Arab Emirates in March. In the short term at least, it has left Postecoglou down on attacking options with Tim Cahill already left at home due to muscle soreness in his Achilles.Axed China-based striker Apo Giannou has been handed a reprieve in place of Juric, though Brisbane striker Jamie Maclaren must be considered the frontrunner to start given he has regular game time and has been scoring in the A-League. Midway through a busy opening Saturday of the college football season, Las Vegas oddsmaker Ed Salmons couldnt help himself. He had to look.Wisconsin, a double-digit underdog, had just taken a 13-0 lead on LSU early in the second half. The public had pounded LSU. The point spread moved across the market, growing from -10 to as high as -13. Seemingly every parlay, every teaser was hooked to the Tigers.Salmons logged on to the Westgate SuperBooks what if screen, a computer program that calculates how much the book would win or lose if a game ends with a specific outcome, and plugged in the score: Wisconsin 13, LSU 0.I expected to see a certain result, and it came three and half times more than what I thought, Salmons said. It was probably the biggest college football winner weve ever had.And thats not even counting the implications to the books national championship futures market. More money was bet on LSU to win the national title than any other team in the offseason at the SuperBook.Bolstered by the Badgers 16-14 upset of LSU, Las Vegas sportsbooks cruised to a profitable opening weekend that sent a pair of Texas upstarts shooting up the odds board to win the national championship and left Clemson bettors scratching their heads. Two Texas contenders?Houston moved from 80-1 to 20-1 to win the national championship at the Westgate, after the Cougars impressive 33-23 win over Oklahoma. Houston has been an underdog four times under coach Tom Herman and won each game outright. The Cougars opened at 100-1 to win the championship back in January. Salmons said the SuperBook took 29 bets on Houston at that price, ranging from $5 to $300, Salmons said. This feels like Boise State from a few years ago, except Houston has more good will built up with its wins over Florida State and Oklahoma, Salmons said. I dont there will be anyone arguing against them if they go undefeated.Texas also made a significant leap up the odds board, moving from 100-1 to 20-1 at the Westgate, after the Longhorns win over Notre Dame on Sunday. The Texas-Notre Dame game on Sunday was the most heavily-bet game of the weekend at Las Vegas sportsbook operator C.G. Technology. The largest point spread bet William Hills Nevada sportsbook had taken heading into the week was $44,000 on Texas +4. The Longhorns beat the Irish 50-47 in double overtime.Texas A&Ms overtime win over UCLA didnt garner nearly the amount of respect that Houston and Texas received. The Aggies remained at 100-1 to win the national title at the SuperBook.Clemson-AuburnC.G. Technology vice president of race and sports Jason Simbal said his book couldnt buy an Auburn bet all week. Eight of every 10 bets had Clemson, and 80 percent of the total money wagered was on Dabo Swinneys Tigers, who closed as 8-point favorites at most sportsbooks.Leading 19-13 late in the fourth quarter, Clemson drove from its own 25-yard line to Auburns 23. The Tigers faced a 3rd-and-10 with 50 seconds to play and were just looking to run out the clock. But running back Wayne Gallman ran out of bounds after a 6-yard gain, leaving Swinney with a decision on 4th-and-4.He elected not to risk kicking a field goal that would have put Clemson up by nine and instead went for it on fourth down, handing the ball again to Gallman, who failed to pick up the four yards. There was lots of grumbling at the end of Clemson-Auburn, of course, South Point sportsbook director Chris Andrews joked. But I loved it.Auburn, with no timeouts, took over and moved into position to get a pair of Hail Mary attempts into the end zone. But Clemson survived for a 19-13 win.Everybody was on Clemson all day, and then a lot of people re-bet, parlays with Alabama-to-Clemson, Simbal said. Getting Auburn to cover there kind of capped off a good day.Not everyone was disappointed by Swinneys decision. A bettor at William Hills sportsbook at the Hyatt in Lake Tahoe staked $122,000 (ticket on left) on Clemson winning straight-up at -320. The bettor netted $38,125.Odds and ends? The Kent State-Penn State game attracted the only six-figure bet reported this weekend by MGMs sportsbook. A regular house player backed the Nittany Lions, who closed as 23.5-point favorites, but failed to cover in a 33-13 win. However, the MGM gave that six-figure victory back Monday night, when Florida State rallied from behind and covered the spread in a 45-34 win over Ole Miss. With the parlays that kicked in from this weekend, we need Mississippi a little more than usual, MGM assistant manager Jeff Stoneback said in the hours leading up to Monday nights game. We can lose close to six figures if Florida State covers the game with the parlays tied in.? William Hills sportsbook took a $40,000 moneyline bet on Tennessee (-1,300) to beat Appalachian State straight-up Thursday night. Fake Hurricanes Jerseys .25 million option on reliever Jose Veras.INDIANAPOLIS -- Hes the hometown hope, the Butler University alum and die-hard Indiana Pacers fan who has put his modest, one-car program on the pole for the Indianapolis 500 ahead of powerhouse programs from Penske Racing and Andretti Autosport. Theres more, though, and it runs as deep as blood. The unflappable Ed Carpenter is also the stepson of series founder Tony George. That means his family tree has roots tracing all the way back to Tony Hulman, who bought Indianapolis Motor Speedway after World War II, and includes Mari Hulman George, who still serves as speedway chairman and on Sunday will proclaim once more, "Gentleman, start your engines!" So to say that much of Carpenters life has been lived in Gasoline Alley, where he spent his formative years, is about as fitting for him as the maxim that "haste makes waste." It also means that the Carpenter is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. "I started racing quarter midgets when I was 8 years old, and at that point, I was already part of the Hulman family. Thats the way its always been for me," said the 32-year-old Carpenter, whose quiet voice and disarming smile belie a fierce competitive streak. "I dont feel the pressure," he insisted moments later, as if driving home the point. "As far as the local fan base and support, its fun. I dont think that translates into pressure." Perhaps its not that Carpenter feels pressure, but that he no longer recognizes it. Hell be making his 10th start in the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing," but his first from the pole. And while peering eyes have been trained on him most of his life, Carpenter insists that the pressure he endures on a daily basis has never managed to overwhelm him. "I dont like to say it means more to me because Im from here," Carpenter said, "but it does mean a lot because of how much I love this place." His first memories of Indianapolis go back to 1991, when he sat in the balcony overlooking the track and watched Rick Mears qualify for the pole. Even then, Carpenter knew that he wanted to one day drive over the hallowed ground that has been in his family for decades. He proved at a young age that he could find victory lane, too, winning national championships in midgets and sprint cars. He graduated to Indy Lights and made his IndyCar debut in 2003, when he was hailed as part of the next wave of young American drivers who might someday wrestle the series back from a surge of foreign stars such as Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti. But things got sidetracked along the way, as they often do in racing, and Carpenter became an after-thought.dddddddddddd. He started to bounce around to different teams, trying to find magic once more. It wasnt until 2011, when he hooked up with Sarah Fisher Racing, that he won his first IndyCar race. And last year, after founding his own team, he surprised everyone but himself when he took the checked flag at the series finale at California. "Hes really a talent, and hes been developing for a long time, and hes become a special driver," said veteran Buddy Lazier, who also has a single-car team for this years Indy 500. "Its a huge inspiration," Lazier added. "Absolutely." That success would eventually come to Carpenter didnt come as a surprise to those closest to him. Time after time, they point out that he never gets too high or low -- that he keeps an even keel in the roughest of waters, and remains grounded during the best of times. "We all look at sports and talk about sports like its the end-all, be-all, right? But when youre in it, you realize theres a lot more to life," said Butler basketball coach Brad Stevens, whos known Carpenter for about six years. "I think hes got a great perspective on it." It was that perspective that stood out to former Masters and U.S. Open champion Fuzzy Zoeller, whose spirits company sponsors the No. 20 car that Carpenter will be driving on Sunday. "He doesnt run hot and cold, like 90 per cent of athletes do. Hes very, very calm," Zoeller said. "He doesnt get too fired up, he doesnt get too down, and thats very impressive. "Its a difficult thing," Zoeller added, "because they only have one car. But hey, dreams are made, right? You have to start with something." While he insists that pressure seems to run from his shoulders like water, Carpenter admits that hell be anxious when Sunday dawns. Hes not immune to the pageantry of the Indianapolis 500, the fly over and Jim Nabors and everything else that makes it such an iconic event. This is in his blood, after all. Its part of his very fabric. Nor does he know what his emotions will be like when the green flag drops, and he leads the field of 33 cars into the first corner with nothing in front of him but pavement. But its a moment that he intends to relish. "I mean, if someone out there tells you they dont get butterflies or dont get antsy, theyre flat-out liars," Carpenter said with a smile. "Theres no way people dont walk out from driver intros and see the crowd and dont feel that. I get goose bumps just thinking about it." ' ' '

Cricket Australias controversial move to include a CA XI in the domestic one-day cup will continue in 2016-17.The inexperienced team of largely uncapped state players won just one match against Tasmania last season, and were bowled out for less than 100 in their first two matches against Victoria and NSW.However they proved much more competitive in the second half of the competition and off the back of the quick elevation of a number of players to higher honours, the trial has been deemed a success and will continue into a second year.We said initially that we were prepared to back this for a two-year trial and we are sticking to that for the second season as we felt that there were significantly positive results for Australian Cricket, CAs high performance manager Pat Howard said. With the postponement of the Test tour last October, the CA XI came up against very strong state sides, which was wonderful for the competition but was also a tough introduction for the young group. It is important we continue to review the concept again this season, as there were many positives.Ten members of the CA XI went on to play in last summers Big Bash League or Sheffield Shield competition, while Sam Heazlett and Mitch Swepson each earned Australia A call ups this year.CA XI squads were also introduced into junior national tournaments last year, ranging from under-15s to under-19s in both the male and female competitions. WASHINGTON -- When the Nationals and Giants met last weekend in San Francisco, neither Stephen Strasburg or Madison Bumgarner pitched in the four-game series. It almost happened this time as the two All-Stars were originally slated to face each other Sunday. But the Nationals made a pitching change and will go with Tanner Roark on Sunday after Strasburg went Saturday against the Giants and suffered the 7-1 loss.It was a big game, said manager Bruce Bochy, whose club had lost 14 of its previous 19 outings. The Giants got a lift Saturday from third baseman Eduardo Nunez, who came to the team in a trade in late July. He had four hits Saturday, including two triples. You saw what he could do tonight. You saw what he could do tonight. He brings a lot of energy to the lineup, Bochy said of Nunez. He can do a lot of things for you. I knew I was going to play him today. It is important to get him going. This year he came into his own and made the All-Star team. This kid is talented. He adds a dimension with speed and energy he brings to the club. The Giants try to gain some momentum with Bumgarner (10-6, 2.25 ERA), who has made 23 starts this year and averages nearly seven innings per outing. He has gone 155 2/3 innings and allowed 122 hits and 38 walks with 174 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting just .211 against him. While Bumgarner is a former World Series MVP, Roark may be one of the most underrated starters in the game.Roark, a 25th-round pick by the Texas Rangers, became a starter for the Nationals in 2014 and won 15 games. He was used mostly out of the bullpen last year but has been in the rotation again this year. The University of Illinois product is 11-6 with a 3.02 ERA in 23 games (22 starts). He has gone 143 innings and allowed 125 hits and 43 walks with 119 strikeouts. Opponents have an average of .239 against Roark. He had a career-high 15 strikeouts against the Twins on April 23.I was just locked in. Every single pitch was on point, Roark said in the teams Inside Pitch magazine.Giants hitters have very little track record against Roark. Buster Posey is 4-for-9 against Roark while Brandon Crawford is 2-for-7.Bumgarner is 0-1 in his last three starts while Roark is 2-1 with a 4.42 ERA in that span.Roark is 4-0 with a 3.32 ERA in five games (two starts) against the Giants. He faced them on July 28 and gave up just one run in seven innings. Roark leads the league in outings in which he has allowed no runs while going seven innings, which he has done six times. While the Nationals only face the Giants in two series per year, Washington batters have fared well against North Carolina native Bumgarner in a small sample size.Anthony Rendon is hitting .444 in nine at-bats and Ben Revere is 7-for-14.Clint Robinson, a backup first baseman, has hit .667 in three at-bats against Bumgarner. The availability of right fielder Bryce Harper may be in question Sunday for Washington. He grimaced while fouling off a pitch in his second at-bat Saturday night. He stayed in the game but struck out for the third time in three trips to the plate before he was replaced in right field by Brian Goodwin.Hes OK. Hes had a stiff neck for a couple of days, Washington manager Dusty Baker said. Anybody who has ever had a stiff neck, I mean, you know youre not yourself. So I took him out for precaution. Well see if its any better tomorrow. You can wake up in the morning and its an issue. Hes been dealing with this for a couple of days. I think this was the second day. NEW YORK -- Obi Enechionyia and his Temple teammates beat two Top 25 teams to win the NIT Season Tip-Off.Its a confidence boost, Enechionyia said Friday after he had 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead Temple to an 81-77 upset of No. 19 West Virginia in the championship game.We beat two ranked teams this weekend. Any time you can do that, its huge for a team, Enechionyia added. Knowing that we can beat anyone, I think thats big for us.Enechionyia scored 18 points in the first half for Temple (4-2) but it was his free throw with 1 second left that sealed the championship for the Owls.Enechionyia was named the Most Outstanding Player of the two-day tournament.Alain Moore II added 18 points for the Owls, while Daniel Dingle finished with 15 and Quinton Rose 12.Esa Ahmad had 19 points for West Virginia (4-1) while Teyvon Myers added 15 and Nathan Adrian and Tarik Phillip had 13 apiece.Mountaineers coach Bob Huggins critique of his teams performance was laced with frustration. We didnt guard, Huggins said. We didnt guard the way were capable of guarding. Our help defense was atrocious. We fouled too much. We didnt make free throws. We missed open shots. We missed 17 layups. Seventeen point-blank shots. We shot 61 percent from the free throw line. We work our butt off to try to get people to turn it over. They turn it over 19 times and we give it back to them 16.Temple led 45-25 at halftime due to two extended stretches in which the Owls held the Mountaineers without a point.Following Phillips layup 1:29 into the game, West Virginia did not score for 5:28 until Adrians layup at 13:09. During that stretch, the Owls outscored the Mountaineers 13-0. Then, after Ahmads layup with 5:28 left in the half, Temple scored the next nine points until Phillips knocked down a 3 to cut the deficit to 38-23.The Owls held West Virginia to 32.3 percent shooting from the field, including 27.3 percent from 3-point range in the first half. Temple forced West Virginia into 11 first-half turnovers. We dont do a good job of finding open guys, Huggins said. We have consistently shot very, very poorly.West Virginia finished with 16 turnovers while misfiring on 38 of 67 shots from the field.Trailing by 20, West Virginia ratcheted up its trademark press defense in the second half. Phillips drilled a 3 right in front of the Mountaineers bench that caused Temple coach Fran Dunphy to call time out with 11:31 left, West Virginia was credited with nine forced turnovers in 8 1/2 minutes. You knew they were going to make their run, Dunphy said. I didnt anticipate that we were going to have that kind of cushion throughout the second half. I was just hoping it (wouldnt) dissipate as quickly as it did.The timeout did not stem West Virginia as the Mountaineers scored 13 of the next 17 points to take a 65-64 lead. It was their first lead since opening the game on a 7-0 run. A layup by Ahmad made it 67-64.The game was so crazy in the second half. They dont let you run any kind of offense, Dunphy said. It was just a crazed style of game in the second half. But Temple would not go away. The Owls took a 75-71 lead on the strength of an 11-4 run spanning 2:36. Moore made four free throws in the stretch, and Rose added two free throws and a jumper. The final 4:44 saw Moore play a pivotal role. The 5-foot-10 guard grabbed three rebounds and made two free throws to set the stage for Enechionyia.BIG PICTURETemple: Two strong performances against Top 25 teams can only bode well for the Owls once American Athletic Conference play begins.West Virginia: The Mountaineers first four games were blowout victories. Being forced to play a possession-by-possession game in the second half could benefit West Virginia over the course of the season.POLL IMPLICATIONSTemple: The Owls beat the No. 25 and No. 19 teams in the nation on consecutive days. That may be enough for the Owls to sneak into the Top 25.West Virginia: A four-point loss to an unranked team should not cause West Virginia to drop out of the Top 25.NOTABLETemple: The Owls came into the game having defeated No. 25 Florida State on Thursday night. The win allowed Temple to extend its streak of defeating a Top 25 team to 10 straight years.West Virginia: The Mountaineers entered the game leading the nation with 13.7 steals and 27 forced turnovers per game. Their 15.7 turnover margin was also best in the nation.UP NEXTTemple: Visits Saint Josephs Wednesday.West Virginia: Hosts Manhattan Monday. The Colorado Avalanche have seen Edmonton superstar Connor McDavid, but their fans havent.A shoulder injury kept him out of both games in Denver in his rookie campaign last season, but hell be on the ice Wednesday when the Oilers take on Colorado. The Oilers are coming off a convincing win against Chicago on Monday, beating the Blackhawks 5-0. It was a much-needed win for Edmonton, which has now won two straight after five-game losing streak. It was also a confident boost to beat a good team.Thats a big win for us, McDavid told The Edmonton Sun. Theyve been hot and gotten points in their last 10 or something ridiculous. Theyve been playing really well and for us to get a win like that is definitely big for the confidence moving forward. The Oilers (11-8-1) are facing a Colorado team that is starting to gain traction after an uneven start to the season. The Avalanche (9-9-0) began November losing four of their first five games and scored only eight goals in that stretch. The goaltending was inconsistent, and there was speculation that backup Calvin Pickard could push Semyon Varlamov as the No. 1 netminder.Varlamov has answered with some strong games. He had 44 saves in a 2-0 loss to Boston and Monday he stopped 40 in Colorados 3-2 overtime win in Columbus. He will be in net against Edmonton. The Avalanche were boosted Monday with the return of leading scorer Matt Duchene. Duchene had missed four games with concussion-like symptoms and his return to the lineup was timely. He ended a 10-game goal drought with his first career hat trick in a win over Dallas on Saturday and added two assists against Chicago.Defenseman Oscar Klefbom had a goal for the third straight game after going 27 games without one.I was almost a little frustrated after 10, 11, 12 games, he told The Edmonton Sun. I was hitting some posts and not getting the bounces some games. But Im really happy with (Monday). The Oilers are looking to spoil the start of a five-game homestand for Colorado. The Avalanche have struggled at home, but their 2-1 record on their just-completed road trip could be a sign they are figuring things out under Bednar, who is in his first year behind the Colorado bench.Theyve also started getting production from the defensive corps with a goal from Tyson Barrie on Monday and a recent surge in offense from Erik Johnson.Obviously, Barrie and Johnson, those two guys can help us coming out of our zone, Bednar told HockeyBuzz.com. Theyve stepped up and got big goals from us. ' ' '

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jimmy Nelson lost the game and his manager lost the argument in the fourth inning.Sean Rodriguez hit a home run and a two-run single, Andrew McCutchen went deep and rookie Chad Kuhl pitched six strong innings and the Milwaukee Brewers lost 4-1 to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night.Nelson couldnt stop the Pirates from winning their sixth straight at Miller Park, and sixth of seven overall to improve to 76-75. Pittsburgh began the day 4 1/2 games behind San Francisco for the second NL wild card spot. The Pirates also have to hurdle the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins, too.McCutchen helped the Pirates jump out to an early lead for the second consecutive game. He crushed a 2-2 pitch that just slipped by the left-field foul pole for his 24th home run. Tuesday, he hit a two-run double in the first.I thought it was going foul, but it didnt, Nelson said. It was a good fast ball down and away. It ran up and in. I was impressed that he got to it. He did a good job of squaring up on a mistake right there.Rodriguezs two-run single finished the scoring in the first off Nelson (8-15) and extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Rodriguez victimized Nelson again when he hit his 18th home run of the season in the fourth. He just didnt make pitches, Counsell said. He lost his command a little bit. The big thing was the walk to Cervelli and falling behind to Rodriguez, thats what ended up hurting him. Thats what ends up costing you the game. Its been a puzzling season for Nelson. He was 5-3 in his first 11 starts, but the loss to Pittsburgh dropped his record to 3-12 in his last 20 starts. He put his team in a 3-0 hole in the first and then labored through the next four innings before being pulled for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the fifth.Counsell was ejected by home plate umpire Jerry Lane with two out in the top of the fourth inning.Adam Frazier had just fouled off a pitch from Nelson that bounced over his foot, out of the box and carried to first baseman Christ Carter who stepped on the bag for the apparent third out. Frazier looked puzzled and stayed put at the plate, but when the Brewers started off the field, Lane signaled foul ball.Counsell came out to argue with Lane.Overall, what upset me was he just missed the call, Counsell said. I felt like he changed his call. More than anything, I felt like he changed his call.Second baseman Scooter Gennett noticed the hesitation in Lanes call.Usually when a guy fouls a ball off his foot, the guy says it right away, Gennett said. He (Lane) kind of waited for the whole play to develop and then called it foul.Counsell finished and walked back toward the dugout, but then turned back for some final thoughts. Lane and Counsell became animated in their discussion before Lane ejected Counsell. First base umpire Hunter Wendelstedt ushered Counsell to the dugout.Kuhl (5-3) pitched two-hit ball through the fourth before the Brewers manufactured a run on Jonathan Villars two-out single in the fifth. Kuhl struck out six and walked one in his second career start against the Brewers. The win was much better result than the last time he faced the Brewers.TRAINERS ROOMPirates: LF Starling Marte missed his 16th consecutive game with low back discomfort, but pinch hit in the eighth and took a called third strike. He went through another full workout and the club anticipates his return to the field in the near future.Brewers: LF Ryan Braun missed his second consecutive game to be with his wife, Larisa, and their new son, Greyson Joseph. Manager Craig Counsell said that it was possible Braun may be back Thursday for the last of the three-game series with the Pirates. . RHP Taylor Jungmann (0-4, 8.34 ERA) makes his first start since April 28 against the Chicago Cubs when he faces Cincinnati on Saturday. He made the Opening Day roster, but then struggled mightily in his first five starts that he was demoted. Jungmann hasnt allowed a run in 10 appearances since being recalled from Double-A Biloxi on Sept. 6.UP NEXTPirates: RHP Ryan Vogelsong (3-5, 4.87 ERA) makes his 10th start since being reinstated from the disabled list (facial fractures) on Aug. 4. He is unbeaten in his last four starts against the Brewers, including a 5-3 decision this Aug. 26 at Miller Park.Brewers: RHP Chase Anderson (8-11, 4.47) makes his fifth start against the Pirates this season. Chandler Parsons anticipates being booed in his first game at the American Airlines Center since leaving the Dallas Mavericks in free agency. But Parsons, whose Memphis Grizzlies play in Dallas on Friday night, believes Mavs fans would have ridiculously flawed logic if they do boo him.Parsons has been bombarded with negative feedback from Mavs fans on social media since signing a four-year, $94 million maximum contract with Memphis in July. Critics have focused on his injury issues -- both of his seasons in Dallas ended prematurely due to surgeries on his right knee -- and accused him of stealing money from Dirk Nowitzki, who took a hometown discount to give the Mavs salary-cap space that ended up being used to pay Parsons.Houston, I get it. I said some stupid stuff on the way out of Houston [after three seasons], Parsons told ESPN, referring to the boos he gets from Houston Rockets fans every time he returns to the Toyota Center as a visitor. Dallas, I dont understand. Its like getting mad at somebody for getting in a car wreck and breaking their arm. Like, how in the world can you be mad at somebody for getting hurt? It makes no sense. Thats just so wrong to get mad at somebody for getting hurt, like they want to go through the rehab, want to go through the pain, want to go through the misery of not playing.ddddddddddddI can never understand that aspect of it.So when it comes to Dallas, youre going to get mad at me because Dirk decided to take less money to bring in a really good player and then unfortunately he gets hurt? Thats why youre mad? Sure, boo.Due primarily to concerns about his knee, Dallas did not make Parsons an offer after he declined to exercise his player option, which would have paid him $16 million this season. Parsons told ESPN he would have taken a lot less than the maximum to re-sign with the Mavs, but hes happy he ended up going to the Grizzlies.I think its a perfect situation for me, said Parsons, who missed the first six games after his rehab extended into the regular season and is trying to work his way into a groove while under a strict minutes restriction. I see so much potential that I can add to this team. It just kind of solidifies that I made the right decision. ' ' '

Rio -- Indian boxer Manoj Kumar stunned London Olympics bronze-medallist Evaldas Petrauskas in a fiercely-contested opening bout to enter the pre-quarterfinals of the 64kg category.?Manoj, a Commonwealth Games gold-medalist, prevailed 2-1 in a hard-fought battle in which he had to hold his ground against the intense aggression displayed by the Lithuanian Petrauskas in all three rounds. Manoj will next be up against the fifth-seeded Uzbek Fazliddin Gaibnazarov in the pre-quarters, scheduled for Sunday.Evenly-matched on pace and agility, Manoj and Petrauskas were quite distinct in their attacking approach. While Petrauskas, the London Olympics bronze winner in the lightweight 60kg division, aggressively tried to engage the Indian from close range, Manoj preferred to back-peddle and hit from a distance. You dont get time to think as much in the ring, Manoj said after the bout. I was responding to his punching style in the ring, you have to adapt your strategy to how your opponent in the ring is boxing. At the end of the opening three minutes, it was Manojs tactics that found favour with the judges, who awarded the first round to him.In the second round, too, Petrauskas was the more aggressive of the two but Manoj managed to stave off the challenge by sticking to his strategy of keeping a distance and hitting occasional uppercuts to his opponents body.Neither of the boxers were willing to make any change to their strategy in the final three minutes as well, although the desperate attacks launched by Petrauskas did unnerve Manoj to an extent. The pumped-up effort secured Petrauskas the final round, but it was not enough to turn the bout in his favour as Manoj was adjudged the winner.I was happy to have pulled the bout off. I knew he was a hard opponent but I hadnt spent much time studying him, Manoj said. I prefer not to do too much tactical planning away from the ring because if it doesnt come off you arent sure how to respond. So it is best to leave it to the ring.I am confident that the hard work I have put in all these years will work in my favour at the Olympics. The win meant Manoj joined seventh-seed Vikas Krishan (75kg) as the second Indian boxers in the pre-quarters. On Thursday, Shiva Thapa will open his campaign in the bantamweight (56kg) category. Boyd Dowler Jersey . NEW YORK -- The Edmonton Oilers got back on the winning track with the type of gritty play that had helped them get off to a fast start this season;Mark Letestu scored the only goal in the shootout to lift Edmonton to a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday night.Letestu beat Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak to the glove side to snap the Oilers three-game skid (0-2-1) after starting the season with seven wins in eight games.Patrick Maroon, Leon Draisaitl, and Milan Lucic scored in regulation for the Oilers, and Cam Talbot made 30 saves as Edmonton beat the Islanders on the road for the first time since December 1999. The Oilers fell behind 2-0 early, then trailed 3-2 in the second. It was a gutsy win, Letestu said. It showed the guys are willing to stick with it, no matter the circumstances. We played a smart game.Nick Leddy, Shane Prince and Casey Cizikas scored for New York, and Halak finished with 20 saves. The Islanders (4-6-2) have lost three straight, including the last two in shootouts. The bounces arent going our way, Halak said.Halak denied Jordan Eberle point-blank early in overtime before Talbot made a similar sprawling save at the other end.Cizikas put the Islanders ahead 3-2 with 8:42 left in the second, picking a rebound in front of Talbot and snapping the puck into the net for his second goal of the season.Lucic tied it with a power-play goal with 3:10 left in the period with his fifth of the season. The Islanders had more chances in the scoreless third, outshooting the Oilers 11-7 and holding a 29-18 overall edge into overtime. We competed and played hard, Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. The puck luck is just not going our way.The Islanders had a power-play chance in the third when Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse was sent off for high-sticking at 9:43. But the Islanders didnt muster much of an attack as murmuring boos were heard at Barclays Center.Talbot had to work harder in the period. He stopped Prince twice from in close and denied Cal Clutterbuck point-blank two times as well.Tonight didnt start as we wanted to but we did a great job battling back, Talbot said. Both sides had a lot of great chances. Halak made some great saves, too.Halak, who has been splitting time with backup Thomas Greiss over the past two weeks and has reportedly asked for a trade to alleviate a three-goalie logjam on the roster, was shaky as the Oilers scored three times ib 11 shots over the first 40 minutes.ddddddddddddThe Islanders began the night with a new-look line for the opening faceoff with captain John Tavares centering Clutterbuck and Josh Bailey and the trio paid immediate dividends.Leddy took a cross-ice pass from Clutterbuck and rifled the puck past Talbot for his second goal of the season just 13 seconds in.Prince made it 2-0 at 5:49, picking up a loose puck and snapping it past Talbot for his third goal of the season. Dennis Seidenberg also assisted to extend his points streak to four games. The veteran defenseman has four goals and four assists on the season. The Islanders clearly had more jump early against the speedy Oilers, who led by their teenage phenom Connor McDavid and were coming off a 5-3 loss against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday. New York held a 7-1 shots on goal advantage at the seven-minute mark. The Islanders needed the quick start, coming off two frustrating home losses, a 3-2 shootout defeat to Philadelphia on Thursday and a 6-1 drubbing by Tampa Bay on Tuesday. However, the quick-skating Oilers answered at 8:22 of the first when Maroon deflected a soft shot from the right point by rookie defenseman Matthew Benning past Halak for his fourth goal this season.Draisaitl tied it with a power-play goal with 7:47 left in the period for his third. We weathered the storm, Oilers coach Todd McLellan said, recalling his teams visit to Brooklyn last season when they lost 8-1. It wasnt pretty but we found a way.Game notes The Islanders came in with a nine-game home winning streak against the Oilers. Edmontons last road victory over the Islanders was a 4-2 triumph at Nassau Coliseum on Dec. 14, 1999. ... NAPA, Calif. -- Oakland Raiders receiver Andre Holmes was suspended Saturday for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances. Holmes will be eligible to return to the Raiders active roster Sept. 30, the day after they host Washington in the fourth game of the season. He will be allowed to participate in all preseason practices and games. Holmes said in a statement that he was surprised when he found out that he tested positive for a banned amphetamine during an off-season test in April. "I know that I had been quite ill when I was tested in early April, as I reported to the sample collector at the time my sample was given, so I thought one of the medications I was taking was responsible," he said. "However, to this day, even after further testing, I do not know how the substance got into my system. The drug policy rules are very strict with a zero tolerance, so after consulting with the (NFL Players Association) and reviewing the medical documentation, I will not appeal the discipline. "During training camp and preseason I will work extremely hard, and I will continue to work intensely so that Im ready to contribute the minute I am back. I sincerely apologize to my teammates, coaches and Raiders fans for this situation." Holmes was claimed off waivers from New England in May. He played seven games for Dallas last season, catching two passes for 11 yards. Coach Dennis Allen said the team knew a suspension was a possibility but said it was a league matter and he would have no additional comment. Last season, Graham Arnold mocked Western Sydneys Pirtek Stadium as a little shed. Now hes tried claim their new A-League home as his own, declaring ANZ Stadium actually belongs to the Sky Blues.Unsurprisingly, Arnold threw the first barb ahead of Saturdays blockbuster Sydney derby. The headline opening-round clash will be held at ANZ Stadium where, along with Spotless Stadium, the Wanderers will play home matches while Pirtek is knocked down and rebuilt.A year ago, Arnold launched one of his famous verbal projectiles by welcoming his cross-town rivals to Sydneys mansion, apparently aiding their escape from Parramattas corrugated-iron dwelling.Asked on Wednesday to describe ANZ Stadium - which boasts nearly double the capacity of Sydneys Allianz Stadium - he took a different tack. Its our stadium, Arnold said. Were loaning the Wanderers our stadium for the game.Weve played Chelsea and Tottenham there; we played Newcastle there last year.So its more our stadium than theirs because weve been on it more than them. While the words will surely mean precious little to Wanderers coach Tony Popovic, recent history suggests Sydney might have the wood over last seasons grand finalists. When the teams kick off, it will have been 1001 days since Western Sydney won a Sydney derby, in January 2014.The match also follows a successful pre-season for a revamped Sydney squad, in contrast to the Wanderers mixed results and 4-1 FFA Cup thumping by Melbourne City.Arnold reiterated his mantra that form went out the window in the heat of derbies, but said strong pre-season displays had boosted his players confidence. If we do have one little edge on them its our experience in the derby, he said.Theyve got 15 or 16 new players this year and it will be a new experience for them.(Suspended captain) Nikolai Topor-Stanley will be a big loss for them.Hes their leader and he knows what derbies are about. My biggest concern - if there is any - is what starting XI do I put out out there when Ive got 15-16 players fighting for first-team spots?Western Sydney officials have forecast a crowd of at least 60,000, which would easily break the record for any competitive club football match in Australia. Most spectators are expected to be clad in red and black, and Sky Blues skipper Alex Brosque has told his team to use the atmosphere as fuel for on-field hate. You definitely can get too hyped, you feel the anticipation and excitement that comes into this game, Brosque said at the clubs season launch.Id be lying if I said you treat it like any other game.We go out there, and Ive told the boys previously in games, we hate every single one of them.
