NASSAU, Bahamas -- Tiger Woods will be playing alone Friday in the Hero World Challenge.Justin Rose, the only player with a higher score in the opening round at Albany, withdrew Friday because of a nagging back issue. Rose did not play the pro-am Wednesday and then opened with a 74 in the first round. Rose, the Olympic gold medalist, has not played since the Ryder Cup, wanting to rest his back.Woods has the option of playing with a marker, a player not in the competition. That occasionally happens at the majors. The PGA Tour said he would be playing as a solo, meaning the round likely would take him no more than about three hours. Fake Jerseys Free Shipping . LOUIS -- Heading into the final stretch of the season, the issues for the Chicago Bears banged-up defence only seem to be getting worse. https://www.fakejersey.com/ . Robinson finished with 17 points, all but two in the second half, and Lawson had 14 after halftime and finished with a game-high 11 assists as the Nuggets handed Dallas its first home loss in eight games this season. Fake Jerseys .com) - The Montreal Canadiens will try to halt their longest losing streak of the season when they host the struggling New York Islanders in tonights clash at the Bell Centre. Fake Jerseys Website .Y. -- The Buffalo Sabres have placed centre Cody Hodgson on injured reserve and recalled two players from their AHL affiliate in Rochester. CIS Albus Nox Luna electrified fans on Thursday night with a historic second round-robin performance that advanced it as the first Wild Card region team to ever make it to the World Championship bracket stage. On Friday, however, Brazils INTZ couldnt make it two-for-two for the underdogs, falling in three straight games to end its tournament at a record of 1-5.ESPN was able to catch up with INTZs Luan Jockster Cardoso for his final interview of the tournament.I think the biggest thing we learned from the tournament is that each region not only just has its own different play style, but how they think [and execute] to play optimal, he said. They do it really, really well, and I think thats something we didnt realize and didnt do, because in Brazil we just try to see the meta and think of whats best. But we dont try to optimize it. We also try to be flexible so we counter our [opponents] strategies, but I dont think it works in an international competition. Its basically who can execute their [personal] strategy better.H2K surprised me the most, he went on. They had a boot camp in South Korea, and I thought they would come in really strong, but they showed that they learned a lot [in South Korea]. In my opinion, they are the best European team here. Their macro [especially surprised me] because they were so crisp. They dont get picked off and are always there to [complete] stuff. If they need to pull the trigger, they pull it instantly. I was very impressed with H2K.For him personally, he had fun going against two of the better bottom lanes in the tournament: H2Ks Forgiven and Vander, and EDGs Deft and Meiko. Jockster mentioned he learned a lot from playing against them.I think Brazil has become really passionate about esports. I honestly dont know why that is, he saidd.dddddddddddd A lot of people like us, and a lot of people are watching us. Its getting bigger, and its showing up on television, so the [general public] is learning what League of Legends is. I think [esports] in Brazil is just going to get bigger, and the fan base is really, really amazing. They are really passionate about the game and [equally as] passionate about the teams. I think Brazil is amazing. The memory Jockster will take away most fondly from this tournament will be the sole win of the competition. It couldnt have come against a better team, with INTZ upsetting the giant from China, Edward Gaming, to start off the group in the most unexpected way possible. For us it was the biggest game of our lives. We always watched EDG, and we looked up to them. Every time we needed to get better and learn something, we watched EDG and tried to [copy] what they were doing and how to think, how they were thinking. I think the win against EDG is the memory that well keep with us for the rest of our lives.Yesterday, ANXs star support Likkrit stated in an interview with ESPN that he would like to meet Jockster in the quarterfinals or later in the tournament. While Jockster wont be able to meet Likkrit and ANX in Chicago for the bracket stage, he did have some words to share for the proclaimed League Jesus.I want to tell [Likkrit] hes a really good guy and a really good support. In Mexico, when they beat us, I started looking up to him and I learned a lot from him. He made me a better support, so I want to thank him for that. I wish him good luck in his next games, and I hope he can do well and show the world Wild Card is a really good region. ' ' '

West Indies A 165 for 9 (Vishaul Singh 46, Sandakan 3-47, Gunaratne 2-30, Asalanka 2-27) & 276 lead Sri Lanka A 386 (Karunaratne 131, Cornwall 8-108) by 55 runsScorecard Asela Gunaratne followed up an impressive 38 with two top-order wickets to help Sri Lanka A close in on victory against West Indies A, who ended day three nine wickets down in their second innings and only 55 in front.Gunaratne first helped Sri Lanka stretch their overnight lead of 72 to 110, adding 49 for the ninth wicket with Lahiru Kumara. Then he took the wickets of Rajendra Chandrika, who failed to go past 5 for the fourth innings in a row, and Shamarh Brooks to hasten West Indies second-innings slide. Four West Indies batsmen got past 20, but none of them managed a half-century, with Vishaul Singh top-scoring once again with 46.Gunaratne and offspinner Charith Asalanka took two wickets each, and Asith Fernando removed Singh for 46 as the visitors were reduced to 132 for 8. Sri Lanka were then frustrated by Gudakesh Moti-Kanhai and Keon Joseph, the ninth-wicket pair batting for 19 overs before Lakshan Sandakan trapped Moti-Kanhai in front, off the last ball of the day, to pick up his third wicket. In the morning session, offspinner Rahkeem Cornwall picked up the last two Sri Lanka wickets to end with career-best figures of 8 for 108. DETROIT -- Fulmer, Norris and Boyd. Not quite a law firm, but a trio definitely representing the Detroit Tigers postseason chances as they argue their case in front of the high court of a 162-game season.Rookie right-hander Michael Fulmer plus callow lefties Daniel Norris and Matt Boyd will pitch for Detroit this weekend against the visiting Kansas City Royals as the Tigers try to enhance their playoff credentials. We wouldnt be here without them, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus has said on several occasions. We would not be here if those three guys werent pitching the way they have.Detroit claimed at least temporary possession of the second wild card spot by a half-game Thursday night with a 4-2 victory at Minnesota, completing a sweep of the Twins to extend its winning streak to four. The Tigers are a half-game up on Baltimore, which was swept in a four-game set with Boston.Kansas City has already been dethroned as champions of the American League Central and is being slowly locked out of the wild card door. It has won just three of its last 11 games after its 5-2 loss Thursday night at Cleveland.Youre not going to live a charmed life forever, and we did last year by not really suffering any major injuries, Royals manager Ned Yost said. This year we did (sustain injuries).Ive been very proud of the way this team continues to battle through all adversity. They dont quit. Theyre every bit into these games as they were at this time last year. Thats a good trait to have.Opposing Fulmer, a leading candidate for AL Rookie of the Year with a 10-7 record and 3.03 ERA, will be tough lefty Danny Duffy. Norris works Saturday and Boyd on Sunday for Detroit.Duffy (12-2, 3.18 ERA) has a franchise-record 181 strikeouts for a left-hander and his dozen victories are the most by a Kansas City southpaw since Bruce Chen had 12 in 2011.Yost said earlier this week he doubted if center fielder Lorenzo Cain wouldd return to the field this season.dddddddddddd Hes been bothered for weeks by a wrist sprain that limits his ability to swing a bat.Third baseman Mike Moustakas has missed much of the season with a knee injury that required surgery, although Cheslor Cuthbert has filled in well. You get Moose back, you get Lorenzo Cain back (next season), Yost said. Those are two pretty big bats that have been missing in this lineup for a while now.Fulmer is making his fourth start against Kansas City this season and is looking to beat the Royals for the first time. Fulmer is 0-2 with a 2.75 ERA in his first three starts against the Royals. In 19 2/3 innings, hes allowed Kansas City 18 hits, including a pair of home runs.Detroit hopes second baseman Ian Kinsler, who missed the Minnesota series after suffering a concussion Sunday when hit on the top of the helmet by Clevelands Trevor Bauer, can return to action for the series opener against Kansas City.Designated hitter Victor Martinez, hit on the left knee by Bauer in the same game, missed the opener against the Twins plus the three innings of the rained out game, but belted a pinch-hit three-run home run in Thursdays first game and was the DH in the second. Its not a secret were running out of time, Martinez said. We just keep playing the games. See what happens. Heading home for the final stretch.Justin Upton hit a tiebreaking solo home run in Thursdays first-game 9-2 win, and since Aug. 20 has hit 13 of his 25 home runs and driven in a league-best 33 runs over that period.Justin Upton, in terms of being a story, Ausmus said, think about some of the home runs hes hit over the past month.Hes had some big home runs throughout the month that hes gotten hot. Probably as many big home runs on the team compacted into one month. ' ' '

CLEVELAND -- Rookie wide receiver Corey Coleman does not need surgery on his broken hand, a small but sorely needed positive for the Browns.Coleman, who scored two touchdowns last weekend, will miss at least one month after breaking his hand during practice on Wednesday, the latest setback to a team reeling from injuries to two starting quarterbacks in the seasons first two weeks. The first-round pick visited a hand specialist Thursday. Coleman does not need an operation, but will need four to six weeks to recover. With that timetable, he could be back as early as Clevelands game on Oct. 23 at Cincinnati.Coleman banged his hand on a defender while making a catch during practice. He stayed on the field and continued to catch passes despite the fracture before undergoing an X-ray following practice. He is tough, Browns coach Hue Jackson said. He practiced and that is what was amazing. I probably was the most surprised when our medical staff came up to tell me.I almost fell out of my chair. I told him, `You have to be kidding me because the guy practiced the whole practice. These things happen, but we are not going to all of a sudden slow down or they are not going to cancel games or postpone games or anything like that.Miami is saying, `Come on down. We have to go play.Colemans injury is the latest misfortune for the young Browns, who already have lost four other starters, including quarterbacks Josh McCown and Robert Griffin III, and will start rookie QB Cody Kessler this week against the Dolphins.Starting center Cam Erving (bruised lung) and defensive end Carl Nassib (broken hand) were also injured in Sundays loss. The rash of injuries hasnt changed Jacksons focus or goals this season.Seen it before. Been through it before, Jackson said. The fun part, not the fun part, I shouldnt say that. There is nothing fun about that.At the same time, we are going to get a lot of these guys back at some point. It would be different if I felt like they were out for the year. They are not. These guys are going to come back and hopefully come back and hit the ground running where they were.We hate it, but these things do happen from time to time. With Coleman out, Andrew Hawkins will start in his place opposite Terrelle Pryor. Colemans injury may also give Clevelands other rookie wide receivers more playing time.Fourth-round pick Ricardo Louis has yet to make a catch, fifth-rounder Jordan Payton has been inactive the first two weeks, and Rashard Higgins, another fifth-round pick, is also without a reception.Kessler, who will become the 26th starting quarterback for the Browns since 1999, wont be able to build on the connection he made working out with Coleman in California earlier this summer. The No. 15 overall pick in this years draft, Coleman has seven catches for 173 yards in two games, an average of 24.7 yards. The former Baylor standout had five receptions for 104 yards and two TDs against the Ravens.Coleman was slowed by a hamstring injury in training camp, but has been steadily improving. Both of his TDs were impressive last week. He hauled in a 31-yard pass from McCown and dragged his feet in the end zone for the score. He also scored on an 11-yard play, outracing a defender and diving into the corner of the end zone as the Browns opened a 20-0 lead.Pryor, who converted from quarterback to wide receiver, has been impressed with Colemans progress.I had a long talk with him about how to prepare and how to work on your body after practice and how you have to stay here extra hours, Pryor said.Theyre little things that get boring, but its good for you and the team because youre going to be available. Being available is the most important thing when you play in the league. Im proud of the kid and look forward to seeing what he does this week. For now, though, Colemans season is on hold.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL Stitched Braves Jerseys . Kimi Raikkonen said that finishing sixth in the German Grand Prix was a painful result for Ferrari as it slipped behind Red Bull in the constructors standings. Both Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel fell away from the Mercedes and Red Bulls in the race as Ferrari finished a distant fifth and sixth at Hockenheim, a result which drops the Italian team 14 points behind Red Bull. The 2007 world champion feels Ferrari was simply not fast enough to compete with Red Bull in Germany.Everybody can see where we finished, Raikkonen said. Its obviously a bit painful for all of us but this is where we are right now. We just have to work harder. Of course we want to win, so we have to beat everybody and thats always the aim in racing. We were just not fast enough -- it was as simple as that, unfortunately. It wasnt too bad when we had fresh tyres, but they wore off quite quickly and thats about it.We were ahead of Red Bull but now theyre ahead of us, but Im sure we found some tools and hopefully we can challenge both of them later onn, but its not going to be easy.dddddddddddd But thats always the aim.The result comes a week after Raikkonen and Vettel struggled to get past Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo at the Hungarian Grand Prix, as Red Bull beat Ferrari to the podium. When asked whether the feeling is any different compared to last weekend after recording back-to-back sixth place finishes, Raikkonen said the team cannot be satisfied either way.The end result was the same and it doesnt matter how you get it. They were not good results, not what we wanted but, like you said, they were two completely different stories that ended up with the same position. We cannot be happy either way, because this is not where we want to be, these are not the positions we want to be fighting for. It was quite a boring race, in a way, not much happening where I was, so if we can be fast that will obviously make it more exciting. ' ' '

Sam Tomkins is ready to make his comeback after withstanding all that Wigan coach Shaun Wane could throw at him in training. The 27-year-old England full-back will end a nine-month injury lay-off when he begins his second stint with his home-town club in Fridays Super League top-four clash with Hull at the DW Stadium, live on Sky Sports 3 HD.Tomkins had been plagued by knee trouble since March 2015, early in his second season with New Zealand Warriors, and missed Englands Test series against the Kiwis in the autumn in order to undergo surgery in which he received a prosthetic posterior cruciate ligament. He resumed training with Wigan a month ago and got the nod to make his eagerly-awaited return after being put through a rigorous training session.I had three players flying into him and attacking him from everywhere for 20 minutes, said Wane. It was good. I enjoyed it but he hated it.Forwards Ryan Sutton, Greg Burke and Jack Higginson were given the task of testing Tomkins ability to stand up to the most ferocious of tackles. I dont worry about the first tackle; if you watched our training for the last two weeks, Ive been tackled more then than I have been in the last eight years. Sam Tomkins He loves that physical stuff, said Tomkins. I didnt enjoy it.It was me and Jake Shorrocks, a young lad whos got a similar knee injury, and it was the final tests of our knees, three forwards throwing their bodies into you, two holding you up and one coming in and pinning your knees. We both came through with our knees intact and if we can withstand that, we should be alright for a game.I dont worry about the first tackle; if you watched our training for the last two weeks, Ive been tackled more then than I have been in the last eight years.Tomkins, the 2012 Man of Steel, scored 144 tries in 152 appearances for Wigan from 2008 to the 2013 Grand Final when he joined the Auckland club for a world record transfer fee thought to be around £700,000. Phil Clarke brings you his the best tries from the 2016 Super League season However, he opted out of the final year of his three-year deal, citing homesickness, and Wigan swiftly re-signed him on a four-year deal.Tomkins, who became a father during the winter, is relieved to finally get the chance to make his return.Im glad its finally come to the time to get my boots on and get out there, he said. Ive been thinking about playing for a month.Ive been training with the boys for three or four weeks now. I started out with just a few sessions a week but recently Ive been in full training and I feel good. Its been tough to not put my hand up and ask to play but youve got to respect the timeframe after the operation. The first few months were very tough. When I signed back last year, I didnt think Id be sat on the sidelines for the first 12 games so that was hard for me. Barrie and Terry’s biggest hits from the first 13 rounds of Super League, six rounds of the Challenge Cup and 2016 World Club Series Wane says Tomkins is likely to start on the bench - for the first time since 2009 - and plans for him to play around 50 minutes.Ive not picked my team but hell play some part in it, he said. Im leaning towards him being on the bench but Ill have a chat with him and see how he comes through before deciding on the team on Wednesday. It means everything to have him back - hes one of the best players in the world but Im expecting nothing from him on Friday. Its like a pre-season game for him.He came round to my house for tea last night and I told him I expect nothing. The fans will expect a lot but in reality its his first match for a long time. Hes going to be a great asset long-term but I need to give him time to bed back in.Hes not going be rushed by anyone at this club.Watch Wigan v Hull FC live on Sky Sports 3 HD on Friday from 7.30pm. When tasked to describe the character hes attempting to play in his return to WWE after 12 years removed, Bill Goldberg couldnt help but smile from ear to ear.At the end of the day, at 49 years old, its realistic to believe that a Terminator has a heart, Goldberg told ESPN.com. [WWE] gave me the ability to be myself. They gave me the ability to eloquently [speak] my appreciation of the fans and show how appreciative I am to be given the opportunity to make a difference. No, this isnt your fathers Goldberg, the man who rose to prominence behind a storyline unbeaten streak with WCW in the late 1990s and who walked away from the WWE on his own terms in 2004 after one year. And this doesnt quite sound like the outspoken actor and mixed martial arts practitioner who wasnt afraid to speak his mind in the years immediately after his pro wrestling retirement. The man Goldberg is today -- a father, husband and philanthropist -- is much different altogether, admittedly reshaped through maturity and perspective.Goldberg recently patched what had become a rocky post-wrestling relationship with WWE when he signed on to be a downloadable character on the WWE 2K17 video game. The experience led to further discussions, which culminates in his main event match against Brock Lesnar on Sunday at WWE Survivor Series in Toronto. The bout is a rematch of their largely forgettable meeting at WrestleMania XX in 2004, when both superstars were booed out of Madison Square Garden due to the crowds knowledge that each was set to leave the company.Goldberg admits he has a lot more to lose than gain in terms of his legacy in coming back, noting the difficulty of a nearly 50-year-old man doing justice to a muscular, intimidating character who is so reliant upon intimidation. His motivation, however, is twofold, and he says it has nothing to do with repairing portions of his legacy, including his underwhelming first run with WWE, or changing the perception created through shoot interviews by some of his ex-peers that he never loved the business and was difficult to work with. Its the opportunity to play a superhero for his wife, Wanda, and 10-year-old son, Gage -- neither of whom have seen him wrestle -- that Goldberg was unable to pass up. The mere mention of his sons reaction upon hearing the news of his return brought instant tears to his eyes.As a father, you want the best for your son, quite obviously, Goldberg said. You want to create the best memories for your son. To be able to be given this opportunity -- originally by 2K and now by WWE -- to come back and be that guy, I could never repay them as far as my appreciation. Im the coolest dad in the world, and they gave me the opportunity to do that. The other reason for his return has more to do with the message he is looking to deliver.Goldberg has always played the role of babyface, but one with a hard edge of physicality and an unwillingness to be pushed around (both inside the scripted realm and behind the scenes). And when he looks back to the prime of his career, hindsight and wisdom have helped him uncover a bit of regret.I look back upon my times when more people were listening to what I had to say, andd I didnt say enough, he said.ddddddddddddThe idea of being a true role model for children may sound like its straight out of the Hulk Hogan handbook from the 1980s, but its something Goldberg takes very seriously. Its why he has taken the time to stop and briefly connect with as many children as possible in the front row of live events at each of his recent appearances on Raw.The platform of Goldbergs message is a recommitment to basic manners like yes, sir and no, sir, please and thank you, and opening the door for women. If I ever see one of you guys out there not doing that stuff, Im going to call you on it, Goldberg said. It wont be a Jackhammer [coming your way], it will be a punch. Honestly, those are the simple basics in life. Everything emanates from the basics, from your base. If you dont have a strong base, Im sorry, but you are always going to be coming back to it, trying to reattain.I believe in the simple things in life; everything derives from the beginning. You take things very simplistically and try to be the best person you can be. If I can touch one or two kids in this next generation who havent seen me do my thing, then Im way ahead.Goldberg calls his WWE return a one-time thing and isnt willing, at this point, to entertain the idea of continuing on toward WrestleMania 33 next April. Part of his reluctance surrounds how big of a critic he is regarding his own work.In fact, the perfectionist within Goldberg was particularly upset with the brief spill he took inside the ring while delivering a knee to the face of Rusev during an Oct. 31 appearance on Raw.When I fell on my ass on the ground, it felt like s---, Goldberg said. The deal is that I hold myself to an extremely high standard, and its a standard that can never be ... its unattainable. But it drives me to be the very best in everything I do.Goldberg isnt expecting to have a five-star classic with Lesnar from a technical standpoint, but he promises plenty of hard-hitting violence. While the showman in Goldberg has talked publicly in recent weeks about putting Lesnar in the hospital, his real-life expectations are that hell probably be sitting in the bed right next to him when all is said and done.I was stiff before he was stiff, so you remember that, Goldberg said. And Im not proud of that but ... Im proud of that. I dont have a problem with being stiff. As a matter of fact, thats why I went to Japan to wrestle [in 2002]. I enjoy it much more. I think its much more realistic to the mixed martial arts aspect of it.Asked what success looks like for him on Sunday, Goldberg said it goes beyond getting his hand raised inside the ring. That part -- the scripted winning and losing -- has never bothered him.My life is not predicated upon being the winner -- its about the journey, he said. Its about the legacy that you leave, the impression that you leave. There are a lot of things that I have to attain. At the end of the day, if I come away with nothing other than the smiles on my wife and sons face, Im Santa Claus ... or Hanukkah Harry! ' ' '

Goalkeeper Mat Ryan has implored the Socceroos not to fall into the trap of complacency after being left winless in a third consecutive World Cup qualifier.Australia were held 2-2 by Thailand in Bangkok on Tuesday night, a scoreline that flattered Ange Postecoglous side, who were saved by two Mile Jedinak penalties.Ryan, who had a busy night and made a couple of fine saves against the enthusiastic Thais, with a dire warning that Australia have to match the desire of other teams, who he claims are willing to die to make the World Cup, in Russia 2018.However he doesnt necessarily believe complacency has become an issue for the Socceroos, who are chasing a fourth straight finals appearance.Thats the third performance in a row where we havent probably been as convincing as wed like to be, Ryan said.First and foremost we have to compete, and at the end of the day whats up for grabs is a position at the World Cup.We have to be aware that every team is willing to die in order to achieve that and we have to be better than them in that aspect.I think thats the first step for us, then we have to go about implementing our system of play and how we want to play. Its not good enough tonight.Ryan singled out cheap turnovers as the Socceroos worst offence, on a night nearly completely devoid of impetus in the final third. He expects a thorough review from Postecoglou before the second half of the final qualifying phase starts in March. But the Valencia gloveman did not go as far as to say there was reason to panic despite slipping to third in Group B behind Saudi Arabia and Japan. Its the halfway point of the stage now and if we can get back to what I know as a group we can do, we can go away and win every single game of this last qualifying stage, Ryan said.By doing that, were going to qualify.Theres no need for panic stations. Nico Rosberg edged ahead of Mercedes team-mate and title rival Lewis Hamilton in final practice for the Brazilian GP. Rosberg, who beat Hamilton to win at Interlagos in 2014 and 2015, will be crowned champion on Sunday if he completes a hat-trick of Brazil victories.Rosbergs lap of 1:11.740, set on a damp circuit after persistent overnight rain, was 0.093 faster than Hamiltons best effort. Hamilton was fastest in both of Fridays practice sessions. The two Mercs only showed their hand in the final ten minutes of the session after devoting the majority of this mornings running to heavy-fuel running. The changeable conditions for Practice Three are expected to be more representative for race day than the dry running the field enjoyed on Friday while more rain is forecast for qualifying, which begins at 4pm UK time. You played cricket for a few months, and then suddenly the field hockey sticks would come out, then it was time to kick a football around, and soon your attention turned to table tennis or badminton - more commonly the shuttlecock variety; less frequently the one played with a little woolly ball.Such sports were interspersed with games of a more provincial provenance such as kabaddi, gilli-danda, seven-stones, and other assorted country cousins. Looking back, I have no idea how we knew to move from one to the other: the sequence went without saying, as it came without saying. You might think the sheer abundance of sports would have made for an egalitarian playground in which those with limited talent in, say, cricket, could make up for it by excelling at soccer or field hockey or kabaddi. But you would be, for the most part, quite wrong. It was evident that the divine distribution of sporting talent or acumen was both unfair and capricious: the same guys who scored centuries in cricket were invariably the ones who banged in the goals in hockey or football, or walked away with the trophy at the end of the table tennis tournaments. These neighborhood dadas commanded the respect of everyone else and were much revered for their sporting acumen.Conversely, those who made up the numbers in the cricket XI were also all too often the ones who spent their time futilely chasing the soccer ball but rarely coming into actual contact with it, let alone booting it into the goal. Part of the disenchantment of growing up was the realisation that there was no yet-to-be-discovered sport out there at which one might finally excel, exacting sweet revenge for all the daily humiliations endured until then. One catches glimpses of the portable nature of exceptional sporting talent every now and then. I remember a Wimbledon crowd gasping in appreciation as Roger Federer casually and elegantly redirected a speeding tennis ball with pinpoint precision straight into the hands of a ball boy - with his foot. Clearly the Fed must have been a mean soccer player in his youth. And I once watched some grainy video footage of Yuvraj Singh playing tennis at an exhibition match that left no one in any doubt that the phenomenal eye-hand coordination that launched six sixes in an over translated innto booming serves and topspin forehands as well.dddddddddddd And the entire South African cricket team looks as if they could easily swap their whites for rugby or soccer jerseys and still hold their own.Looking back in my minds eye at some of these talented but nameless allrounders from maidans in Bangalore and Chennai, a couple of things stand out. First, they had certain physical attributes that distinguished them from others. These included wiry or strong physiques much better developed than those of others in their own age group; keen eyesight; and an instinct for timing and positioning their bodies in such a way as to create optimal impact. They were, quite simply, physically more advanced than others in their peer group. But it was a second, more ineffable, quality that set them apart, one that I did not, indeed could not, appreciate back then: its almost as if they were able to watch the game from up on high, from a different vantage, which allowed them to see a certain grammar or geometry that was invisible to the rest of us. This translated into them having more time, appearing to be less rushed, than others. When they were batting, they instinctively knew where the fielders - that is to say the gaps in the field - were. When fielding they knew to read the angles faster and move towards the ball to cut it off rather than give chase after it was hit. And when bowling, they werent the ones with the long run-ups and the grunting effort but the ones who got most of the wickets. Not surprisingly, these allrounders were invariably selected to be the captains of teams, irrespective of the sport, on which they played.I suspect the range of sports played by the average schoolboy has diminished considerably in the India of today, as cricket has risen to an unprecedented eminence and is pretty much played all year round. Specialisation and organised playing of sport (rather than just playing with friends in the neighborhood) also happens earlier in life than it did in those relatively carefree days of the past. While I remain quite skeptical that these developments will result in Indias future cricketers being more competitive internationally, there is no doubt in my mind that the decline of the dada of the maidan, that effortless jack of all sports, is something to be mourned. They were the true allrounders of their times. ' ' '

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers starter Lucas Harrell left Tuesday nights game against Oakland after two innings because of a right groin strain.Harrell walked four and gave up three hits while facing only 12 hitters. The right-hander allowed only one run, benefiting from a double play in the first before the As left the bases loaded in the second. With the bases loaded in the second, Harrell started stretching after a 3-0 pitch to Danny Valencia. That prompted a trainer visiting the mound with manager Jeff Banister. After Harrell threw a few warm-up pitches, he stayed in the game and forced in a run when he walked Valencia before Stephen Vogts inning-ending fly out.Harrell was making his fourth start for Texas since being acquired in a trade from Atlanta. MINNEAPOLIS -- In the funny-money economics of the new NBA, Gorgui Diengs four-year, $64 million contract extension really isnt a lot of money. In the real world that Dieng inhabits, the one in which his hometown in Senegal cant even get basic necessities for its hospital, $64 million can, and will, have an incredible impact. It doesnt matter how much you make but what can you do with it, Dieng said Tuesday, one day after signing the contract to keep him with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the long haul. Im sure a lot of people make more money than I did before and they didnt do the right thing with it. I always wanted to help and Im going to keep helping. Im going to do the best I can to my ability to make peoples lives better.Working hand-in-hand with Matter, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding health care throughout the world, and Roger and Nancy McCabe of the Timberwolves Fastbreak Foundation, Dieng has put together a three-phase Gorgui Project to deliver equipment and tools for the hospital and agriculture in Kebemer. Dieng has helped ship massive containers back home with X-ray machines, beds, rototillers and even a tractor to help those he left when he came to the United States to pursue a basketball career. So while other big men like Utahs Rudy Gobert and Oklahoma Citys Steven Adams signed extensions for four years and at least $100 million, Dieng wasnt interested in squeezing every last dollar he could out of the Timberwolves. Had he declined the offer and become a free agent next summer, he likely would have commanded a contract of at least $80 million. But in his four years in Minnesota, Dieng has found a home, and he made it clear he wanted to stay.I want to be here. I didnt want to be here I wouldnt have bought a house this summer, he said. Everybody knew it. I wanted to be here. I dont like moving around back and forth.dddddddddddd I like here. I like the organization. Great people. They help you. Its an easy task for me being here. The 26-year-old Dieng has emerged as a versatile and dependable big man, able to defend multiple positions, block shots, rebound and hit the midrange jumper. It didnt take long for new coach Tom Thibodeau to understand he is a perfect fit alongside Karl-Anthony Towns in the frontcourt. Dieng is averaging 13.0 points and 13.5 rebounds in the first two games this season.I think its important for the organization, Thibodeau said. Obviously, we feel very good about him signing. Thats important for us to move forward. He embodies all the things were looking for. He has had a very good start to his career. He continues to improve. He gets better and better, but its also who he is: His character, his intelligence, his drive. I think those things are important.Diengs decision to sign for less than he probably could have gotten on the open market provides the Wolves some flexibility for the coming years when Towns, Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine come up for extensions that are expected to come at a much steeper price. Dieng met with Wolves owner Glen Taylor on Monday to chart out the vision for the franchise over the next five years, and he decided to try to set the tone for the negotiations to come in hopes that this tight-knit group stays together. If I go to another team, am I going to be happy? I dont know, Dieng said. I just wanted to be happy and make sure Im comfortable where I am at. Im looking forward (hoping) theyre all going to do the same and be honest with their teammates, because at the end of the day its not all about the money. ' ' '

Unless youre bionic, there will always be a chance youll get injured while training for a marathon. Ive been pretty lucky in my running career -- the two main injuries Ive suffered have been a shin splint and, most recently, a tweaked hamstring. The hardest part of an injury is accepting that you might need to take time off. The second-hardest part is figuring out when and how to make a comeback without re-injuring yourself. In my experience, the key to surmounting these two challenges is your attitude.Heres what happened. In March, I was supposed to run the Virginia Beach Marathon. But six weeks before the race, I injured my hamstring during a routine six-mile run on a Friday morning. I was on a route I ran regularly, but the night before it had rained, and some of the wetness turned to ice. While going up a hill, my leg slipped out from under me. I didnt fall -- but something didnt feel right. It wasnt until that Sunday, when I had to stop a run at eight miles, that I realized something was wrong. Before I knew it, I was going to physical therapy and needed to stop running. I was devastated. I had been six weeks away from a marathon that I thought would give me an excellent chance to qualify for Boston. Id been training for 12 good weeks, feeling myself getting stronger and faster, just to have it end.I had to switch to running the Virginia Beach half-marathon, officially ending my chances of getting to Boston in that race. Im not going to sugar-coat it: I cried. For the remainder of that training cycle, I started doing all of my cardio between the stationary bike and elliptical to get to the half-marathon.This time, about six months after that injury, Im pushing the hamstring as far as it can go without going overboard in order to become faster to qualify for Boston. This isnt necessarily a recommended way to train, but Im seeking help from a professional physical therapist who knows how badly I want to reach my goal. I recently asked him what it would take to fully repair my left hamstring. His answer? I would have to take a season off (after the NYC marathon, of course). For runners, being told that we have to take that long of a break is one of the worst things we can hear. But after getting that news, I did some quality soul searching during my training runs. I realized that I want my running career to continue well past this marathon. One day, I want to run the World Marathonn Majors (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York) and run a marathon in every U.dddddddddddd.S. state. Two years ago, I wouldve just fought through the pain. But today, I realize how much I want running to be a life-long sport.Im no longer angry about my hamstring injury, and instead Im doing everything in my power to keep the hamstring safe, while also improving my speed, strength and cardio for NYC. Step No. 1, acceptance: complete. Now for step No. 2, coming back. The most important part of this training cycle, besides getting faster, is to not re-injure my hamstring and to really listen to how my body is feeling. There are runs when I want to push through the point where I could potentially damage the tweak in the hamstring, but I know its better to quit while Im ahead instead of causing more harm.As a friend once pointed out to me, some running is better than no running. That perfectly describes my first month of training for NYC. I cut a day of running out of the plan and replaced it with cross-training on the elliptical. I also adjusted my daily mileage and matched different paces for different types of runs to synchronize with my current fitness level. Im hoping these tweaks will make sure I can toe the line on Nov. 6 in the best possible shape. And Ive made sure to consult with my physical therapist at every turn to make sure Im not overdoing it or causing too much stress to my hamstring.Running injuries can be extremely pesky, but with proper care and a full understanding of how your body works, you can come back better than ever.If you find yourself struggling with an injury, take time to assess your long-term goals. That will put the injury in a better perspective. Runners tend carry a stubborn stereotype, but we also know that our body is the key to our success and it needs tender, loving care.Training notebook:Longest run: 10 milesHardest run: Six-mile tempo runHighest weekly mileage: 34 miles (two weeks in a row)Biggest accomplishment: The first month of training is complete!Megan Flood is a seven-time marathoner and half marathoner. She is on a quest to qualify for the Boston Marathon and hopes New York 2016 is her ticket to Boston. You can follow her progress every other week here on espnW.com and on Twitter @meganflood11. A look at whats happening all around the majors today:---ROCKIN WRIGLEYIts been 71 years since the Chicago Cubs reached the World Series. They can finally halt the drought with a victory at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of the NL Championship Series at 8 p.m. EDT. Anticipating a long-awaited pennant, excited fans at jam-packed Wrigley Field will certainly be on the edge of their seats.THE MARQUEE MATCHUPStanding in the way of a huge Cubs party is rested Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, perhaps the best pitcher in baseball. Shaking off his previous playoff struggles, the three-time Cy Young Award winner is 2-0 with a 3.72 ERA in three starts and one relief appearance this postseason. With the Dodgers down 3-2 in the best-of-seven NLCS, will he rescue them again or flop in October once more? Game 7 would be Sunday night, if necessary.Weve won two games in a row before, Los Angeles first baseman Adrian Gonzalez said. Nothing says we cant do it Saturday and Sunday.Kyle Hendricks, who led the majors with a 2.13 ERA this season, gets the ball for Chicago. Kershaw beat Hendricks 1-0 in Game 2 at Wrigley Field.ON THE MENDAll-Star starter Danny Salazar plans to throw a three-inning simulated game, and the AL champion Indians will assess his status before deciding whether to put him on their World Series roster. Salazar hasnt appeared in a major league game since Sept. 9 because of tightness in his right forearm. WASHINGTON -- Max Scherzers outing went from perfect to almost perfect to not perfect enough in a matter of minutes.Scherzer lost his perfect game in the fifth, his no-hit bid in the seventh and then the game as the Washington Nationals fell to the Cleveland Indians 3-1 on Tuesday night. Scherzer again approached his third career no-hitter but got knocked around by the Indians at the wrong time.Once you make it through six, youve got a shot, Scherzer said. I threw the ball really well tonight. Its the little things that beat me.The little things, in order, were a single by Francisco Lindor, a throwing error on a pickoff attempt at first that became a two-base error, an RBI double by Jose Ramirez and an RBI single by Lonnie Chisenhall. After retiring 19 of the first 20 batters, Scherzer (12-7) was down 2-0 and Washington was unable to mount a comeback against Trevor Bauer and the Cleveland bullpen. He knows how to close out those games, manager Dusty Baker said of Scherzer. Then it went from a no-hitter to a loss in a matter of time, and we couldnt muster too much offense. We hit a couple balls hard, but they hit a couple balls hard also. It was a well-played and well-pitched game.Bauer (8-5) held the Nationals to four hits in 6 1/3 shutout innings, striking out four. The Nationals got their lone run in the form of Jayson Werths 14th home run of the season in the eighth off recently-acquired lefty reliever Andrew Miller.Washington has scored three runs in three games.Scherzer, who struck out 10, had the Indians down for a while, but Cleveland bench coach Brad Mills saw cracks. He hadnt given up any hits, but at the same time the guys were putting some good at-bats together that kind of lengthened out his pitch count a little bit, said Mills, who replaced Terry Francona when the manager fell ill before the game. I think that when the guys started seeing more pitches, they started being a little bit more comfortable the next time around.Baker watched as Scherzers pitch count rose and as the right-hander walked Tyler Naquin in the fifth, but never worried about the situation. He didnt run out of gas, Baker said. He had some pretty good hitters out there. Shoot, man, they hit some decent pitches.TRAINERS ROOMNationals: OF Bryce Harper missed his second consecutive game with a stiff neck. Manager Dusty Baker had no timeframe on the reigning National League MVPs return other than to say the club has considered shutting him down to avoid further risk. ... C Wilson Ramos took a foul tip off his left foot in the eighth inning. He stayed in the game but was replaced by Pedro Severino at the start of the ninth. Baker said he wasnt concerned.REVERES CATCHBefore Scherzers no-hit bid ended, center fielder Ben Revere made a highlight-reel jumping catch to rob Roberto Perez in the sixth. Revere leapt at the wall in left-center field to take extra bases away from Perez while Scherzer let out a scream. You play the best defense you can, any way you can help your team in any situation, Revere said. Of course Scherzer had the no-hitter going and everything. Its just trying to get more motivated. Thats what Im trying to do.UP NEXTThe Indians have listed 25-year-old RHP Mike Clevinger (0-1, 6.97 ERA) as their starter for the Wednesday afternoon series finale. LHP Gio Gonzalez (7-9, 4-13) starts for the Nationals. Cheap Braves Jerseys . Louis. To which I would say two things: 1. Where there is smoke, there is or perhaps has been a little fire. Socceroo Tim Cahill is judging his time at Melbourne City as much by attendances as he is by goals.City host their first home fixture of the season on Friday night when Perth Glory visit, and hopes are high for a five-figure crowd at AAMI Park.In Cahill they have the star.Under coach John van t Schips re-booted system, they have the style. Now they just need the fans.City scored more goals last season than any other campaign in A-League history but averaged less than 10,000 to their 12 home matches not involving Melbourne Victory last year. Its been the clubs goal of the club to improve their footprint across the city, and Cahill confirmed hed be keeping a close watch on attendances during his time in Melbourne.Hundred per cent, I have to help do that. Its a huge part of why Im here, he told AAP.Were doing our bit. Weve had an amazing fan day.A shirt launch with a tram. Loads of little activations. Lots of media. Dinners with the sponsors.Im seeing things with an open mind. Its such an amazing sporting market in Melbourne. To use a favourite phrase of Footbball Federation Australia, Citys metrics are already up.ddddddddddddMembership has boomed to almost 11,000 - with nearly a thousand of those joining in the week since Cahills stunning volley in Citys 4-1 win in the Melbourne derby.Wet weather is likely to keep Citys opening crowd below the 15,717 that turned out two seasons ago to see World Cup winner David Villa in his short stint with the club. But beginning the season with a crowd above 10,000 would give City a strong platform for the season ahead.Van t Schip, who has seen the club grow from a speck on the sporting landscape, said consistent results would help.We improved it last year and we want to again take it to a new level, he said. The fans that we have are great but we think were doing everything possible - the way that were playing and the players that were getting in - to get even more members. Results are important for that and hopefully (too) the way were playing. PHILADELPHIA -- Michael Vick took a pay cut and had to compete for his job when he returned to the Eagles. Part of the choice had to do with the up-tempo offence mapped out by new coach Chip Kelly. "I just thought," Vick said, "this was the best opportunity, the best fit for me." Turns out, Vick was the best fit for Kelly. With his first chance to put his stamp on Philadelphias offence, Kelly named Vick the starting quarterback on Tuesday, giving the veteran the nod over Nick Foles after a sterling effort in the preseason. "Hes our starter for the season," Kelly said. "Its not a one-game trial basis." There wasnt a lot of suspense with Kellys decision, which was announced after practice on Tuesday, and after the coach met with both players. About the only surprise was the timing -- Kelly had hinted he might not name a starter until closer to the opener. But Kelly, in his first season after coaching at Oregon, ended the mystery and will have Vick taking the snaps when Philadelphia opens the regular season at Washington Sept. 9. "Im not surprised at all," Vick said. "I told him, Thank you, I appreciate it and I wont let you down." Vick has been solid in two preseason games, and Foles, in his second season with the Eagles, has struggled to grasp Kellys multifaceted offence. Vick has thrown for 199 yards this preseason and will take a 113.2 quarterback rating into Fridays game at Jacksonville (0-2). Foles has been sacked six times in two games, and has a quarterback rating of 65.5, after showing flashes as a rookie last season while Vick was injured. Vick played in just 10 games last season, while Foles topped 340 yards twice as a rookie. The Eagles (1-1) are coming off a 4-12 season, coach Andys Reids last, and havent made the playoffs since they won the NFC East at the end of the 2010 season. "We had a good amount of tape, a good amount of us seeing them on the field," Kelly said. "And seeing them in a lot of different situations, and wanted to put a guy in place, if we could, in enough time to get us to prepare the season." Kelly has only shown flashes of his up-tempo offence in the first two preseason games and defences already seem tired and confused while the Eagles are moving the ball with ease. The first-team offence led by Vick and Foles has four touchdowns on eight-plus possessions in two games. One drive ended with an end-zone interception and two others ended with fumbles. Behind Foles will be Matt Barkley, a rookie from Southern Cal. "The competitor in me, you always want to be the one on the field playing," Barkley said. "At the same time, I love Mike. Weve gone about it the right way. Weve kept our great friendship and weve pushed each other. Im proud of him. Im going to do anything I can to help him become the best quarterback possible. "Im excited for him. Nothing changes in my preparation. Im going to prepare the same way." Vick had a breakout year under Reid in 2010, leading the Eagles to the division title, winning The Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year award and starting in the Pro Bowl. But hes battled injuries and inconsistency the last two years. Now 33, Vick sustained a concussion in Week 10 last year and Reid decided to let Foles play the rest of the way because the Eagles were in last place. Vick returned to start the season finale against the New York Giants because Foles was hurt. He finished the year with 2,362 yards passing, 12 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He lost five fumbles. "I think Mike is ahead right now. I think Nick made it very difficult," Kelly said. "It wasnt where one guy went north and the other guy went south. I think both of them upped their games. "But at this point in time Mikes ahead." The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback agreed in February to a restructured three-year contract with the Eagles, just two seasons after signing a $100 million extension that included $35.5 million in guaranteed money. The new deal is essentially for one year, however. Vick could earn up to $10 million in 2013 if he meets all performance incentives. He was slated to earn about $16 million this season, including a $3 million roster bonus. Vick has missed 11 games because of injuries over the last three seasons. A former No. 1 overall pick by Atlanta, Vick was signed by Philadelphia in 2009 after missing two years because he was in federal prison for his role in a dogfighting ring. He came in as the No. 3 quarterback behind Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb. After McNabb was traded and Kolb was injured in the season opener in 2010, Vick took over and was outstanding. He had career highs in yards passing (3,018), completion percentage (62.6), touchdowns passing (21), touchdowns rushing (9) and passer rating (100.2). He might not hit those numbers again -- even if Vick believes hes still capable of playing like his old self. "It dont stop here. This is just Day 1," he said. "Ive still got to prove myself." MADRID, Spain -- Atletico Madrid has reinforced its already solid defence by signing Martin Demichelis to a one-year contract. Demichelis arrives just days after Atletico signed Spain striker David Villa to replace Radamel Falcao. The 32-year-old Demichelis, an Argentine international, spent the past 2 1/2 seasons with Malaga, helping the team qualify for the Champions League for the first time where it reached the quarterfinals last campaign. He also played at River Plate and then for Bayern Munich from 2003-11, winning four Bundesliga titles. Atletico will compete in the Champions League this season after finishing the Spanish league in third place.
