ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- One day after Wil Myers returned to face the Rays, another former Tampa Bay player will oppose his former team Tuesday.San Diego Padres right-hander Edwin Jackson, who made headlines for and against the Rays, will oppose Tampa Bay left-hander Blake Snell in the middle game of a three-game series at Tropicana Field.Jackson pitched for Tampa Bay from 2006-08, then threw an unusual no-hitter for the Arizona Diamondbacks against the Rays on June 25, 2010. He somehow walked eight batters in a 149-pitch gem.The 32-year-old veteran opened this season as a reliever with the Marlins (0-1, 5.91 ERA in eight outings), but he has fared well since joining the Padres (3-1, 3.62 ERA in five starts). His last outing saw him scatter two hits over seven scoreless innings while striking out seven in a win against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. For his career, Jackson is 3-2 with a 2.54 ERA in his career against the Tampa Bay.While Jackson has appeared with 11 major league teams, Snell has made just 11 major league starts. The rookie is 3-5 with a 3.18 ERA and coming off his worst outing of the season, when he lasted only 1 2/3 innings and gave up five runs (two earned) in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.Snell has 58 strikeouts in 56 2/3 innings, for the best rate in the American League among rookie pitchers with 50 or more innings. His only previous interleague outing was a strong one, when he struck out nine and held the Rockies to one hit in six scoreless innings at Colorado on July 19.Theres been a lot of impressive things about Blake Snell, Rays manager Kevin Cash told MLB.com. His confidence, not to be confused with cockiness -- the confidence and the way he feels he can go out there and compete has been so impressive. The way he acted right after that game is pretty impressive. ... I know hes itching to get back out there. The Rays have had improved starting pitching since the All-Star break, with Mondays starter, Drew Smyly, improving to 3-0 in his past five starts with a 2.25 ERA. He has more wins in those five starts than in his first 18 this season. On Monday, he used a deceptive mix of pitches to leave the Padres hitters guessing. The Rays are 14-15 since the All-Star break, recovering from a terrible month entering the break, and improved starting pitching has been a big part of the turnaround.Snell is just coming into his rhythm as a young starting pitcher, but Smyly said the staff as a whole has built a positive momentum in the past month, one it hopes to continue through the final six weeks of the season. You have to go out there and believe, to execute pitches and expect good results to come, Smyly said. I dont know if its luck, but everything evens out over the course of the season. After giving up three runs in the first two innings Monday, the Padres are looking for a quicker start Tuesday. We just didnt play that well, didnt come out with the intensity we should have early in the game, said Myers, who went 1-for-4. I think we need to do a little better job, me especially -- the whole team needs to do a better job early in the games, because weve been fighting late. But those first few at-bats early in the game are just as important. Thats one thing we need to do going forward, making sure we have more intensity early in the games. PHILADELPHIA -- Jim Schwartz wont let his defense fear Antonio Brown or the rest of Pittsburghs high-powered offense. After handling the Browns and the Bears, the Philadelphia Eagles have a tough test against the Steelers on Sunday. Ben Roethlisberger, Brown and NFL leading rusher DeAngelo Williams lead a group that has averaged 31 points in the first two games.Containing Brown is usually the key to beating the Steelers.Yeah, we know what number he wears, so we wont have a problem finding him, Schwartz said Thursday. But its not just him. If we concentrate too much on 84 (Brown) -- and hes going to get a lot of our attention, for sure -- theres a lot of other guys that can make us pay. Were going to have to play a good total team game; were going to have to play total team defense. Its not just going to be about stopping one guy. There are a lot of other matchups that we need to win in this game.Schwartz has helped the defense improve dramatically in his first season as coordinator. A unit that ranked in the bottom five each of the past three years has allowed just two touchdowns and one field goal. But Cleveland and Chicago dont compare to Pittsburghs offense. This will be the best offense we face this seasonn, safety Malcolm Jenkins said.ddddddddddddOn paper, rookie cornerback Jalen Mills covering Brown is a major mismatch. Mills said hes concentrating on playing technique football instead of focusing on Brown because he expects to line up against other Steelers receivers, too.We have a lot of great receivers in our division so its one week at a time, one player at a time, Mills said.Roethlisberger puts added pressure on the secondary because of his ability to avoid the rush and extend plays. Jenkins, Mills and the other defensive backs have to remain disciplinedHes one of best in the business at sliding and picking and just working his way around the pocket, Schwartz said. Hes a giant man, hes not afraid of contact in there. A lot of the plays get extended. ... So we need to keep our rush going. Its not just 2 seconds you are rushing for. Youve got to keep going. Hes not coming down on an arm tackle. You can grab the jersey and hes still going to throw it.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow Rob Maaddi on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AP-RobMaaddi ' ' '

Arnold Palmer was one of the best golfers of all time, but he was also one of the best marketers ever.In his lifetime, he earned almost $7 million on the golf course. Off it? He made at least 50 times that.Without Palmer -- and his agent Mark McCormack -- Michael Jordan, who often gets credit for being the father of modern-day sports marketing, never would have been Michael Jordan.Corporate America was ready to turn MJ into what he became because, 30 years earlier, Palmer already was doing it.It was because Palmer was so good -- his smile in print, his convincing tone in commercials -- that companies continued to align with athletes. The ultimate testament to Palmer being the best? When his deals were up, competitors would pay more. A deal with Qantas airlines turned into a new one for United. A deal with Holiday Inn morphed into a bigger deal with upscale Westin. A tractor deal with Bolens wasnt renewed because Ford Motor Co. paid him more to endorse its cars and didnt want him competing with its tractor division. In 1967, Palmers appearance fee was $7,500 and his deal with Coca-Cola was $15,000.Palmer deftly navigated the world of appearances and endorsements so well that as his rates went up -- and were pushed by McCormack, who founded the agency IMG -- the guys who followed him had a greater starting point. Just like on the golf course.Today, when athletes turn pro, they or their agents trademark their names. Palmer trademarked his name, and that famous umbrella logo, in 1968.His versatility landed him endorsements with companies in almost every sector. He endorsed Heinz ketchup on a steak, L&M filter cigarettes, Allstate insurance, Pennzoil motor oil, cardigans, dinner jackets and even Japanese robes. That confidence didnt exactly exist when Palmer signed a deal in 1959 with Wilson requiring that should he give up golf he would have to return the clubs Wilson gave him.Palmer didnt just pave the way and yield to todays stars. He never stopped marketing. In the past 16 years, the value of his name was reaffirmed, as he was able to capitalize on the iced tea/lemonade combination that bears his name.Palmers name had been attached to the concoction since the late 1960s, but through a partnership with Innovative Flavors and Arizona Beverage Co., he capitalized on the drink. In 2010, it hit $100 million in annual sales. In 2015, it hit $200 million, single-handedly eclipsing sales of the diet version of behemoth Snapple. In the coming hours and days, it will be impossible for many to downplay Palmers contribution on the golf course. Whats remarkable is that his contribution off it might be more of a lasting legacy than what he ever did with a club and a golf ball. Wholesale Authentic Jerseys . Western was last ranked first in the country in October 2011. There is a lot we can tell about a baseball players skills just from watching the game. For instance, its readily noticeable that Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton is blazing fast and that Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina can get the ball from his glove to second base in a hurry. But with the use of data collected by Baseball Info Solutions (BIS), we can objectively quantify the best skills in the game. With that, lets take a closer look at the best of the best this season:Home-to-first timeThe one time during a baseball game when you can come closest to clocking the true straight-line speed of a player is when he is running to first base. At other bases, he must change his path or slow down to round or stop on the base, and in the field he tends to veer around as he tries to judge where a ball will land. But running to first, he can run right through the bag. At BIS, we time baserunners in a variety of scenarios, one of which is home to first. And to ensure that we are getting a runners full effort, we stick to recording home-to-first times when the runner is trying to beat out a double-play ball. (Note: BIS also records home-to-first times on bunt-for-hit oopportunities, but those often involve drag bunts from left-handed hitters, which effectively give them a head start.dddddddddddd)For everyone that considers Hamilton the fastest man in baseball, well, the numbers below confirm that. His average time to first in grounded-into-double-play situations this season is five hundredths of a second faster than the next fastest guy, the Marlins Dee Gordon. That is the same as the difference between Gordon and the fifth fastest player, fellow Marlin Ichiro Suzuki. To put that into loose context, Hamilton is five hundredths of a second faster than the next fastest baseball player over 30 yards (the baseline is 90 feet). Usain Bolt won the 100-meter Olympic final (over three times the distance) by eight hundredths of a second over the second-place finisher. Granted, Bolt got a slow start out of the blocks, so the gap between him and the field in terms of pure speed is probably greater than that. But still, Hamilton may effectively be the Usain Bolt of baseball -- a generational speed talent. ' ' '

The fourth days play of the third Test at Headingley in July 1975 ended with the match balanced on a knife-edge. Australia, chasing a record 445 to beat England, and so retain the Ashes, had reached 220 for 3, with their opener Rick McCosker still there, within one hit of a maiden Test hundred. England still had their noses in front, however, with only Doug Walters, never happy on English pitches, and the incapacitated Ross Edwards of the mainline batsmen remaining. But the pitch was benign, and any one of three results were still possible. The last day - a Tuesday, in those days of rest days on a Sunday - dawned cloudy, but when George Cawthray, the groundsman, pushed back the covers, he was greeted with the sight of a pitch which had been vandalised. Several lumps of soil had been gouged out of the surface just short of a length at the Rugby Ground End. While Cawthray later admitted that he could have repaired those sufficiently to allow play to recommence, what sent a chill down his spine was that the holes had been filled with about a gallon of oil. Cawthray found the solitary nightwatchman, who had not heard anything unusual, and then summoned the police. As the players, officials, and keen early spectators arrived, the first signs that all was not well came when they were greeted by the sight of slogans daubed on Headingleys perimeter walls: George Davis is innocent. Inside, the number of policemen and officials clustered round the pitch soon brought home the reality.Tony Greig and Ian Chappell, the two captains, inspected the pitch and agreed that it couldnt be used. The umpires briefly considered a suggestion that the adjacent strip could be mown, but with no guarantee that it would play as the one used for the first four days had - slow, low and with little turn - that idea was quickly dismissed.Television viewers tuning in for the start were greeted by a sombre-looking Peter West. The reason for the lack of his usual genial grin immediately became obvious as he announced that the match had been abandoned. The details given were sketchy and brief. And whereas today endless replays would be shown, and petro-chemical experts dragged in to explain exactly what kind of oil had been used, in those more genteel times of 1975, the BBC reverted to transmitting a picture of a cricket ball with a two-line explanation as a caption.By lunchtime, the grey clouds had given way to a more persistent drizzle: the match would have been abandoned by tea-time anyway.A rumour began to circulate that there would be an extra Test - a fifth - slotted in after the Oval finale. But although the idea was discussed by the two boards, it was soon dismissed. The only spare date was for a match starting on September 11, and the Australians, who all had fulltime jobs back home, were committed to return before then. And what of the George Davis, the man in whose name the pitch had been dug up? Largely unknown until then, he was a 34-year-old London minicab driver who had been sentenced in 1974 to a 20-year sentence for armed robbery. Protestors had been campaigning for his release for about a year, and in 1976 he was freed after Merlyn Rees, the home secretary, decided that his conviction was unsound. But two years later he was found guilty of attempting to rob a bank and sent to prison for 15 years. Released in 1984, he again returned to prison in 1987 when caught trying to steal mailbags.Interviewed on the evening of the incident, Colin Dean, Daviss brother-in-law, who was later convicted of being involved, told the BBC that the act had been carried out to bring the subject to the publics attention. We can get the Ashes back anytime, he argued. What have we done? Dug a little bit of ground up. Is it sacred?Dean and three others - two men and a woman - were eventually taken to court and charged with vandalism. Three received suspended sentences and one, Peter Chappell, was jailed for 18 months. The fourth Test at The Oval ended in a draw, even though it was extended to six days, and so Australia, led by Ian Chappell for the last time, retained the Ashes. McCosker, stranded on 95 at Headingley, did manage to score a Test century at last.In the aftermath of the incident, security at major matches was reviewed. But just in case anyone thinks that this kind of thing couldnt happen today, its worth noting that in May 2004 vandals scaled the walls at The Oval and dug holes just behind the crease at the Vauxhall End, delaying the start.Footnote Picking on innocent pitches appears to have been all the rage in the hot summer of 1975. In the same issue of The Cricketer which reported on the Headingley vandalism, there was a story about police in Staffordshire being summoned to deal with a man who had repeatedly driven his car across the square at Silverdale CC. Returning to action after a five-week lay off, Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri rounded off a weather-stricken week with a four-under 67 to finish tied-24th at the European Open, which was reduced to 54 holes in Germany on Sunday.Lahiri, who did not get to start his second round till the second half of Saturday, had five birdies and an eagle and three bogeys in his 67. That took him 10-under 203 for 54 holes. It was Lahiris first appearance on the regular European Tour programme since his second place finish at the Hero Indian Open at home in March. After that, he was busy with the Majors, WGC, Olympic Games and the PGA Tour, where he managed to keep his card for 2017.The tied-24 was also his second best result on the European Tour this season.Lahiri birdied the third, sixth, 12th, 15th and 18th holes and eagled the 10th hole. He bogeyed the fourth, eighth and 14th holes. The other Indian in the field, SSP Chawrasia, who beat Lahiri in their last meeting in the Hero Indian Open in March, missed the cut. Fake College Jerseys . Most important, perhaps, it went off without a hitch. Uniteds eighth defeat of a wretched campaign means Liverpool, which currently occupies the fourth and final Champions League place, could go nine points clear of its fierce rival by beating West Bromwich Albion on Sunday. Charlie Adam scored both of Stokes goals at Britannia Stadium either side of Robin van Persies equalizer, with a miserable day for seventh-place United capped by first-half injuries to centre halves Jonny Evans and Phil Jones that forced them off. The story till thenLeander Paes first came to prominence as a 16-year-old, when he partnered Zeeshan Ali in the doubles in a Davis Cup tie against Shuzo Matsuoka and Shigeru Ota of Japan in Chandigarh in early 1990. Over the years he developed a reputation as a miracle worker in the annual team competition, pulling off memorable wins in ties against France, Switzerland and Croatia along the way.The moment When Paes entered the mens singles draw at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics as a wildcard, not many Indians would have expected him to go as far as he did in the draw. He lost his opening set to Richey Reneberg of USA, but then stitched together eight successive sets to set up a semi-final clash with Andre Agassi. He would lose to Agassi 7-6, 6-3, before overpowering Brazils Fernando Meligeni in three sets to win what was Indias first individual Olympic medal in 44 years. It created a unique double for the Paes family, as Leanders father Vece had won a bronze with the Indian hockey team at the 1972 Olympics in Munich. The reaction Standing [on the podium] in Atlanta in 1996 with the tricolour was a very proud feeling. - Leaander PaesExpert view On the day in Atlanta at the 1996 Olympics, as he battered stuttering form to win bronze, the strangest thing happened.dddddddddddd. I cried... You cared because he cared. Because he was technically defective, and too short, and his game too high risk, but hed fight every flaw, hed front every challenge, hed tilt wildly at windmills... He moved you because when he played for India he did that simplest of things. He tried. - Rohit Brijnath, sportswriterThe story since Leander Paes showed glimpses of his ability in the US Open a month later, leading Agassi in their second-round match 6-3, 4-0 at one stage - a performance that led Agassi to calling him a flying jumping bean, a bundle of hyperkinetic energy - before losing 18 of the next 19 games. Though he won an ATP Tour title in Newport - and also enjoys a head to head of 1-0 against Pete Sampras - Paes made his fame as a doubles specialist, completing a rare Grand Slam of titles in both mens as well as mixed doubles. RENTON, Wash. -- If Tony McDaniel finds his way onto the Seattle Seahawks 53-man roster at the end of the preseason he will owe an assist to Snapchat. The rugged run-stopping defensive tackle went through his first practice with the Seahawks on Tuesday after signing with the team, a process that all started due to some happenstance.Seattles defensive line depth has been thinned during training camp due to a few injuries. And McDaniel has been without a home after playing last season in Tampa Bay following two seasons with the Seahawks. It just happened that McDaniels agent realized via a Snapchat post a few days ago that his client was in the state of Washington. In fact, McDaniel said he was two hours east of Seattle, in Leavenworth, Washington, doing some hiking and kayaking. My agent saw me on Snapchat and realized I was in Washington so he decided to contact the Seahawks and asked them to bring me in for a workout, McDaniel said. Australian Tyler Wright has taken another step towards a maiden world surfing title by powering into the quarter-final of the Roxy Pro France.Wright proved far too good for compatriot Laura Enever and American Sage Erickson in the non-elimination third round on Saturday to move straight through to the quarter-finals.I was happy with how that heat went, I had a plan and just had to stick to it, its a rip bowl on my backhand which is kind of new territory for me, said Wright.American Courtney Conlogue is the only surfer who can deny Wright the 2016 crown.Conlogue stayed alive in the title contest by winning a low-scoring third-round clash against Australians Sally Fitzgibbons and Nikki van Dijk.Conditions were so tricky on that high tide, on my first wave I was hoping to finish that last turn and not making it kind of put me against the wall, Conlogue said.Im stoked to get into the quarters and hopefully I get a few more waves than that.Six-time WSL champion Stephanie Gilmore blasted through the final heat of the womens third round with an inspiring performance in the days most-exciting exchange against three-time world champ Carissa Moore and fellow Hawaiian Coco Ho.Kai Otton dealt another blow to fellow Australian Matt Wilkinsons faltering mens world title hopes by eliminating him in the third round fo the Quiksilver Pro France.I did not really care about Wilko at all in that heat to be honest, said Otton.I was just all about me. I need to make some heats if I want to stay on tour. I just want to win.I do not want to go out losing in the third round all year and that was a really crucial heat for me. I am rooting for Wilko to win the title, but I have to win my heats when they come.Fellow world title challengers John John Florence from Hawaii and Brazils Gabriel Medina are still in contention in Hossegor. AUSTIN, Texas -- Tom Herman now gets his chance for a Texas takeover.Herman, who coached Houston to national prominence the last two seasons, was announced as the new Texas coach Saturday, replacing Charlie Strong, who was fired in the morning after three consecutive losing seasons.Longhorn football has been -- and always will be -- a national power, winning and playing for national championships with great pride and passion, supported by an unbelievable fan base, Herman said in statement released by Texas.Contract details were not immediately released, and must still be approved by Texas Board of Regents. Texas still owes Strong nearly $11 million on his original five-year guaranteed contract.Texas acted quickly to snag Herman, who has only two years of experience as a head coach but is 22-4 with the Cougars, with a 9-3 mark this season after Fridays loss to Memphis . Hermans name had emerged as a top target for Texas officials as Strongs final season started 2-0 but faded to a 5-7 finish.Hermans brief stint at Houston galvanized the Cougars program. The coach coined the phrase H-Town Takeover in a bid to energize the local fan base and keep Houston-area recruits at home. The 41-year-old Herman now gets a chance to do the same at one of college footballs blue-blood programs, stocked with money, prestige, its own television network and a feverish fan base.Herman was offensive coordinator at Ohio State when the Buckeyes won the 2014 season national championship. He spent a season at Texas as a graduate assistant early in his career under former Longhorns coach Mack Brown.Hermans record at Houston and big wins over top programs such as Florida State and Oklahoma had pushed the Cougars into early-season College Football Playoff contenders as well as candidates for a move to the Big 12. Neither scenario happened, however, as the Cougars dropped midseason games against Navy and SMU and the Big 12 chose not to expand .Herman was regularly mentioned as a possible candidate at several schools, notably LSU . But most of the attention focused on Texas, where Strong was in his third losing season in a row.Tom was the hottest young head coach in the country the past two seasons, and I am thrilled we are able to get him back to UT to lead Texas football, Texas President Greg Fenves said.Houston Vice President for Athletics Hunter Yurachek said the university was grateful to Herman for his two years. Defensive coordinator Todd Orlando will be Houstonns interim head coach for its upcoming bowl game.ddddddddddddIn his short time in Houston, Tom Herman elevated the Houston Football program to new heights, and we are grateful for his contributions to our program. The entire University of Houston community wishes he and his family continued success in this new chapter in their lives, Yurachek said.Texas is desperate for a return to the nations elite. The Longhorns had a decade-long run of 10-win seasons under Mack Brown from 2000-2009, a span that included two Big 12 championships, one national championship and playing for another. But Texas hasnt won a Big 12 title since 2009 and Strong was just 16-21 overall, ending with a 31-9 loss to TCU on Friday.Herman takes over a program that most see as loaded with talent that just hasnt been able to win. Strongs recruiting classes were ranked among the best in the country the Longhorns two-deep roster is stocked mostly with sophomores and freshmen. One of Hermans first jobs may be sitting down with junior running back DOnta Foreman, who rushed for more than 2,000 yards this season, to gauge whether Foreman plans to turn pro.Herman said he met with Fenves and Texas athletic director Mike Perrin well in the pre-dawn hours Saturday to reach an agreement.I came away very impressed with their unified vision and commitment to football, and Im excited to be the head coach at the flagship university of the greatest state in the union. I am eager to get to Austin as soon as possible, to spend time with our student-athletes and to get to work, Herman said.Strong was the first black head football coach in Texas history and many of his players had pleaded this week for him to be allowed to return. Despite swirling reports that he would be fired, school administrators had pledged no decision would be made until after the final game. Its a very difficult day for me, my family and all of the people affected by this decision, Strong said. I do understand that it comes down to wins and losses, and we have not done our job in that area yet. I accept full responsibility for that, but know in my heart that we accomplished our primary goal, which is the development of young men.---AP College Football Writer Ralph D. Russo contributed to this report.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25 . ' ' '

BOSTON -- When the New York Yankees last visited Fenway Park in early August, they were bidding farewell to Alex Rodriguez and their playoffs hopes appeared slim to none. One month later, a youth movement has brought them within four games of the American League East-leading Boston Red Sox and into another late-season showdown with their bitter rival.Boston hosts New York in the opener of a four-game weekend set Thursday night.I probably wouldve said this is where we should be, said New York manager Joe Girardi, who was touting his teams playoff chances even when they trailed by 6 1/2 games in the AL East on the last day of their August trip to Boston.I think we were extremely frustrated with where we were as of July 31, and I told you I expected this club to continue to compete at a high level and win, and thats what theyve done.New York (77-68) has gone 19-12 since taking the rubber match of their three-game set at Fenway Park on Aug. 11, and the Yankees are only two games out of the second AL wild-card spot.Theyve gone through about as much turnover as probably anyone, Red Sox manager John Farrell said. Theyve got good quality young players that theyve been able to turn to that have certainly injected a lot of life into that club.Gary Sanchez has been at the forefront of the Yankees comeback. The 23-year-old hit his first career homer during the August series at Fenway and has launched 13 more since.New York and Boston have played their fair share of meaningful autumn games at Fenway over the years, but this series represents a new chapter in the rivalry.Still, Girardi doesnt anticipate too many hiccups from his youngsters. It could be interesting, Girardi said. Everything so far theyve handled. Are there some tricky things in that ballpark? Yes, but that can affect anyone, so if something happens, Im not going to be surprised. But my expectation is theyll handle it well.As well as they have played of late, the Yankees are limping into Boston after dropping three of their past four games, including a 2-0 defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night.Fortunately for them, the Red Sox (81-64) havent been playing their best baseball either. Boston routed the Baltimore Orioles 12-2 in the opener of a three-game set Monday, but fell 6-3 Tuesday and were blanked 1-0 in the rubber game Wednesday. The Red Sox turn to young southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez (2-7, 4.70 ERA) in Thursdays opener.Rodriguez has been outstanding in limited action against the Yankees this season, going 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in two starts against them.He faced them in the Aug. 11 contest and gave up a run on three hits and a walk while striking out six in a seven-inning no-decision.Rodriguez is 4-1 with a 1.88 ERA in six career starts against New York.Jacoby Ellsbury is batting .294 (5-for-17) with two solo homers off Rodriguez, and Didi Gregorius has hit .353 (6-for-17) with an RBI against him.Masahiro Tanaka (13-4, 3.04 ERA) counters Rodriguez for the Yankees. He has pitched well in two starts against Boston this season, going 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA.Tanaka is 5-2 with a 4.42 ERA in nine career starts against the Red Sox.David Ortiz (5-for-21, .238) and Xander Bogaerts (6-for-25, .240) each have one homer and three RBI off Tanaka. Dustin Pedroia is batting .316 (6-for-19) with a solo homer against him. Paris Saint-Germain claim defender Serge Aurier has been refused entry into the UK ahead of their Champions League match against Arsenal on Wednesday due to a recent conviction. The French champions say British authorities had originally granted the Ivory Coast international permission to enter the country for the game at the Emirates Stadium, but revoked the 23-year-olds visa on November 16.Aurier was given a two-month suspended prison sentence in May after allegedly assaulting a police officer outside a nightclub in Paris and is currently appealing that ruling. In a statement released on Tuesday, PSG said: After an initial application on October 18, complete with all the necessary documents, the British authorities had originally granted Paris Saint-Germains Ivory Coast international, Serge Aurier, an entry visa to the UK on 21 October. Aurier was given a suspended two month prison sentence in May However, on November 16, his visa was finally revoked by the British Ministry of the Interior, who justified their about-face by citing Auriers conviction on September 30, 2016.Paris Saint-Germain had, in all transparency, informed the British authorities of this conviction, as well as Auriers appeal against this decision (and the legal suspension of the ruling) from the outset. The club has argued several times that since the player has launched a legal appeal against the criminal ruling, he is therefore entitled to the presumption of innocence, as any other person exercising their right to appeal. On several occasions, UEFA has also transmitted its total support of Paris Saint-Germain to the British authorities regarding this case, in order to preserve the integrity of its competitions. The club also deplores that the final decision of the British authorities was only communicated at 2pm on Tuesday, despite the club working for the last six days to find a solution to enable our player to travel with his team-mates to London.Paris Saint-Germain considers this extremely tardive response as a flagrant lack of respect for the club, given that its player could have been training with the team just hours later at Emirates Stadium.Upgrade to Sky Sports now and get 12 months half price. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Nick Weiler ended up going from goat to hero in the span of 23 seconds.North Carolinas senior kicker saw No. 12 Florida State take a late one-point lead with the difference being a blocked extra point. But the Tar Heels were able to drive 38 yards in three plays, helped by extra yardage due to a pass interference call, to set the stage for Weiler to atone for his earlier mistake. He nailed a career-best, 54-yard field goal as time to expired to give North Carolina a 37-35 win and snap the Seminoles 22-game home winning streak. It was the second straight week that the Tar Heels (4-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) won in the final seconds. Last Saturday, they defeated Pittsburgh by one point on a touchdown pass from Mitch Trubisky with two seconds remaining.I knew it was within his distance. That wasnt the issue, North Carolina coach Larry Fedora said of Weilers kick. He had something to prove. After the extra point got blocked, I talked to him on the sideline and said he had to get it out of his head. He got his mind right and we gave him his shot. The Tar Heels had lost three straight games to ranked teams, and the Seminoles are the highest-ranked team they have knocked off on the road since defeating No. 9 Syracuse in 1996.Trubisky had his third straight 400-yard game, completing 31 of 38 passes for 405 yards and three touchdowns. Ryan Switzer had 14 receptions for 158 yards.Florida State (3-2, 0-2) trailed 21-0 in the second quarter but rallied to take a 35-34 lead in the final minute on a 8-yard touchdown run by Deondre Francois. The freshman quarterback, who was 20 of 32 for 372 yards, looked like he was going to be sacked at the UNC 8 but eluded tackles by Mikey Bart and Malik Carney to score.Dalvin Cook accounted for 256 yards of total offense -- 140 yards rushing and 106 receiving -- and three touchdowns. He is the first Florida State back to have a 100-yard rushing and receiving game.We cant keep learning lessons, Cook said. We cant keep letting everybody know that were going to come out flat. And theyre going to jump on us. And then were going to fight back. The team knows that by now.KICKING IT THROUGHEarlier in the game, Weiler was short on a 51-yard try along with the blocked PAT.Weilers game-winning field goal tied the second-longest in school history and he had plenty of distance. He celebrated by running around the field and doing the tomahawk chop.Im pretty sure I blacked out after making the kick. Ive never been that tired or ran that much in a game, Weiler said. Once he gave the hands up I was out, next thing I remember was being on the bottom of the dog pile.Florida States Ricky Aguayo also had a long day as he missed all three of his field goal attempts. He was wide right on two and the other was blocked.POLL IMPLICATIONSIts hard seeing the Seminoles fall from No. 12 to out of the poll but they could if voters into account that FSU is 7-5 in its last 12 games. North Carolina fell out of the rankings after losing its opener to Georgia but this win could put them back in the Top 25.TAKEAWAYSNorth Carolina: Even though the defense continues to struggle -- it allowed 595 yards to FSU -- Trubisky and Switzer are emerging as one of the top duos in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Trubisky has not thrown an interception in 240 attempts this season.Florida State: The Seminoles were considered to be a College Football Playoff contender at the beginning of the season but now needs to string some victories together if it even hopes to make a top-tier bowl game.
