Receiver Josh Gordon was suspended without pay for the first two games next season for violating the NFLs substance abuse policy, the second year in a row that the Cleveland Browns will be missing a key player because of a drug-related punishment. Gordon also was fined two additional game checks on Friday. Hell miss games against the Dolphins and defending Super Bowl-champion Ravens, and is eligible to return for a game against the Vikings. Gordon said in a statement that he used cough medicine containing codeine -- a banned substance -- while recovering from strep throat in February. The league could have given him a four-game suspension. "The policy terms are strict about unintentional ingestion, but the NFL has not imposed the maximum punishment in light of the facts of my case," Gordon said. "Therefore, I have chosen to be immediately accountable for the situation. I sincerely apologize for the impact on my team, coaches, and Browns fans." Its the second year in a row that the Browns have a key player suspended early in the season. Cornerback Joe Haden was suspended four games last season for violating the leagues policy on performance-enhancing substances. Haden acknowledged taking the stimulant Adderall. The Browns lost their four games without him. Gordon caught 50 passes as a rookie last season, developing into the Browns best deep threat. He led the team with 805 yards receiving and five touchdowns. The Browns selected him in the second round of the supplemental draft, taking a chance on a player who had major problems at Baylor. He was dismissed from the Bears after getting suspended twice for using marijuana. He transferred to Utah but didnt play there after failing another drug test. Gordon will be able to practice with the team and play in the preseason games. "Obviously, we are all disappointed in this news," coach Rob Chudzinski said. "In our short time with Josh, he has done everything that weve asked him to do and he has exhibited substantial improvement. "We believe that he will continue to work diligently through training camp and the preseason. I am confident that others will step up in his absence." Air Max 200 France . England coach Eddie Jones has warned that three or four players have put their squad places in doubt with poor performances for their club sides. In an interview with Sky Sports News HQ, Jones confirmed several players may find they do not make the national squad for the summer tour to Australia because they have not maintained good habits.Jones did not name the players, but did confirm he has communicated his unhappiness to the concerned parties. There have been three or four that have been absolutely disappointing and theyve obviously put their tour places in jeopardy, he said.We expect those players to go back to their clubs and play like international players and we want them to have good habits - a couple of them havent done that and are in a bit of strife at the moment.Ive spoken to some of them directly and some of them indirectly and theyll understand the situation. The ones who have excuses arent going to make it. There are some players knocking heavily on the door and some of those players will come into contention for the tour squad. Eddie Jones One player who Jones has confirmed he has watched with the summer tour in mind is Leinster centre Ben Teo, who will leave the PRO12 club for Worcester at the end of the season.Inside centre Teoo represented New Zealand at youth level in rugby league and also qualifies for Australia but has elected to play for England. There are some players knocking heavily on the door and some of those players will come into contention for the tour squad, he said. Hiddink is yet to taste defeat during his second spell at Stamford Bridge since being chosen as the man to replace Jose Mourinho in December and has helped ease the clubs fears of relegation. Although he is unbeaten in seven Premier League matches, Hiddink has been unable to spark a significant rise up the table and Chelsea enter the match with United in 13th place, 16 points off Arsenal in the final Champions League spot. A variety of factors are leading to fans watching NFL games for fewer minutes this season, but a poll taken this week suggests they believe that protests over the national anthem are the most dominant factor. In a Seton Hall Sports Poll released Thursday, 56 percent of those surveyed said they think fans are watching less because of the stand some athletes are taking by not standing during the national anthem. It is somewhat remarkable that the impact of the national anthem protest seems to hold, given that the action occurs pregame and isnt even televised, poll director Rick Gentile said.At NFL owners meetings last week, commissioner Roger Goodell told the media that he didnt believe actions taken during the anthem, started by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick to garner attention to what he says is racial inequality and police brutality, were one of the reasons why ratings fell about 11 percent as compared to the first six weeks of last season.Other factors that fans cited as reasons people are watching fewer minutes of football were: the presidential election (50 percent), oversaturation of games (44 percent), focusing on postseason baseball (39 percent) and head injuries and the decline of play (33 percent).Seton Hall says the was taken this week from a statistically representative sample of 841 adults in the U.S. Cheap Air Jordan Free Shipping . MK Dons midfielder Samir Carruthers has apologised for his behaviour at the Cheltenham Festival on Tuesday. The 22-year-old, who has been fined two weeks wages and banned for one match by the Championship club, was photographed alongside Northampton striker James Collins and Bristol City defender Luke Ayling.Other images appear to show a glass of liquid being poured over the railing by Collins as Carruthers, wearing a grey flat cap and waistcoat, grins. The Republic of Ireland U21 international told Sky Sports News HQ: I just want to say Im sorry to everyone, my family, the club, chairman, the gaffer. Ive not been raised up to do something like that and Ive let everyone down. Ive let the community down and Ive let Milton Keynes down and I have to take the criticism that comes with it. Its not something that should be laughed about. Its not an example I should be giving to kids either. Im meant to be a role model and I have to live by my actions now and I really am hurt by what Ive done. It was a silly mistake and I just have to take everything that comes with it.The manager and chairman are obviously very let down and Im being disciplined for it. They had faith in me not to do something like that so I feel like Ive let them down massively. But its not just them, Ive let down the whole team, my team-mates, everyone. And Im really sorry to Cheltenham as well because they let me in and stuff and I obviously embarrassed everyone. After conducting an investigation into the incident, MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman said Carruthers behaviour had been unacceptable. In a statement, he said: I have today met with Samir Carruthers, the executive management team and Karl (Robinson) at stadiummk. I came to the meeting very angry and concerned as we have put huge effort into building a family-friendly reputation at MK Dons. However, it was clear Samir was sincere, contrite and all-encompassing with his apology. He has also taken full responsibility for his behaviour and understands the damage he has caused to his own and the clubs reputation.Obviously, his actions are still unacceptable and, as a result, he has been disciplined. Samir has received a warning, been fined two weeks wages and handed a suspension by the club, which is inclusive of this Saturdays Sky Bet Championship fixture with Brighton & Hove Albion. Samir will learn from this says MK Dons chairman Pete Winkelman As a young man, Samir will learn from the incident and we hope, now, everyone can move on from this.Carruthers, who has made 100 appearances for the Dons since joining from Aston Villa in 2014, has accepted the punishment and will not be appealing.Collins, who is on loan from Shrewsbury, has been fined two weeks wages and warned about his future conduct by his parent club.In a statement, released by the League One side, he said: I cannot apologise enough for my actions and the pictures from my visit to Cheltenham Races yesterday. I have completely let myself, my family, the fans, and the two clubs that I represent down and I am sorry to everyone involved. MK Dons are investigating the behaviour of one of their players at the Cheltenham Festival My actions are not excusable and while the pictures are rather misleading in that there were not people below this balcony and it was only a grassed area there is still no defence to what happened. While there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing from Ayling, Bristol City said in a statement: We are aware of the disappointing images from the Cheltenham Festival that have been printed in various national newspapers this morning. We will be speaking to the players concerned and will take appropriate action where necessary. De Villiers was the hero of the day as he lead his side to a 3-2 ODI series victory over England He added 70 with Hales in 11 overs before walking across his stumps to be bowled behind his legs by Kagiso Rabada, sparking a slump in which five wickets fell softly for 37 runs.Jos Buttler was bowled for his second golden duck of the series, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid drove tamely and Chris Woakes flicked to fine leg. England gained the early wickets they desperately needed through Reece Topley, who found Quinton de Kocks inside edge before bowling Faf du Plessis first ball to make it 14-2.Rilee Rossouw, back in the side for JP Duminy, also failed when he drove the left-armer tamely to Hales at short extra cover. At 22-3 the series, let alone the match, was in the balance - Topley taking centre stage with three wickets for four runs in nine balls. It took a composed century stand from De Villiers and Amla to turn the tide before Wiese (41no) sealed victory with successive boundaries off Woakes.Watch the first Twenty20 international between South Africa and England live on Sky Sports 2 from 3.30pm on Friday. SEATTLE, Washington - Thanks to Alex Rodriguez – thats not a typo – we will get a better understanding of the depths of the mess caused by Biogenesis and its ballplayer clients. There isnt much sympathy for the Yankees third baseman, a fallen star, but players do support A-Rods right to play as he appeals a 211-game suspension – through the 2014 season – which is scheduled to begin on Thursday. “He says he feels good to play, I mean I dont know too much about whats going on there but if he feels like he wants to play and they let him play I dont see why not,” said Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes. “Be on the field, play baseball and do what he loves to do. From the other stuff, I dont know whats going to happen to be honest with you.” It could be that Reyes has but a passing interest in the Rodriguez-Major League Baseball-Biogenesis saga or, perhaps, hes on to something. We really dont know how this will play out. Rodriguez intends to appeal, a legal process which could take weeks or months and keep him on the field until an independent arbitrator renders a ruling. This is good and it will be healthy for the game. Theatre aside, maybe well actually learn of whats gone on here. Unlike about a dozen others who swallowed their pride, signed off on statements and disappeared to serve 50-game suspensions, Rodriguez intends to defend his honour. The fact he has no honour as an already admitted drug cheat and as a nauseating narcissist is irrelevant. His will to fight opens the entire process to greater scrutiny. Did Rodriguez attempt to purchase the documents linking him to Biogenesis from Tony Bosch, the founder of the now-defunct anti-aging clinic? Or did Bosch, facing financial ruin after a disgruntled employee went public about Biogenesis peddling of PEDs, attempt to extort money from Rodriguez in exchange for the papers? Will an arbitrator view Bosch as a credible witness considering Major League Baseball threatened to sue him if he didnt cooperate? Was Rodriguez not only a user of Biogenesis product but also a recruiter, supplying the clinic with additional clients from the baseball world? These questions will – or at least should – be answered because Rodriguez, regardless of motive, has the gumption to fight. The Players Association, which backs a cleaner game on behalf of members who are fed up with others drug use, is supporting A-Rods appeal. Players like Mark DeRosa, who want a clean game, also see the value in the appeals process. “I know its something that weve got to address,” said veteran Mark DeRosa. “I just think that when we sit down in the offseason or when that Players Association meetings get together Im sure there are going to be a lot of opinions on a lot of ways to just, I dont want to say to make it easier, just make it a one shot lifetime ban, see ya later and then no one will ever do it again. I dont know if thats the answer. Im sure there will be a lot of things discussed.” As a player who broke into the big leagues in the late 1990s, the height of steroid use in the game, DeRosa is bothered that drug use continues to be a hot topic. “Just very tiring to listen to,” he said. Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta settled for a 50-game suspension. Should Detroit make the playoffs, hell be eligible to return to the lineup at that time. DeRosa, a teammate of Peraltas for part of the 2009 season, was shaken by the news. “Peraltas the toughest one for me,” he said. “I shared a locker next to him in Cleveland. Shared a locker next to him all of spring training and the first half of the season and I know him, I know his wife, I know his kids, I know his family so thats shocking. No it wont change my perspective of him as a person. Definitely you question some things but Id like to think I know who the real guy is.” The unknown seems to bothers players most. No doubt, theres a washed up pitcher somewhere who didnt make it because drug users were rapping his offerings over outfield walls in minor league parks across the country. Surely theres a dirty player in the majors who beat out a minor league teammate, at the same position, because the other guy was clean. Greats like Ryan Braun, the guy the Brewers chose to give a nine-figure contract instead of Prince Fielder, may no longer be great without the drugs. “I dont think these people realize its affected way more than just them,” said DeRosa. However well intentioned his comment, DeRosa surely realizes a dirty player whos stashed away millions of dollars likely has fewer regrets about his career than the clean scrub who never made the big time and wonders how different his bank account would be if hed cheated. As for the commissioner, Bud Seligs war on drugs is inconsistent with the passive stance he took as Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and Barry Bonds rewrote record books and did all but turn green in transforming into Incredible Hulk-like characters. Maybe back then he didnt care, just thankful for renewed interest in the game years after the players strike of 1994 wiped out a World Series and public appetite for the sport. Maybe back then he didnt know, ignorant like so many of the rest of us who want so badly to believe the sports we watch are pure. Either way, this pursuit feels better suited to the man who will succeed Selig. As for A-Rod, its the strangest thing. So obsessed is he with his legacy and his money owed that hes willing to fight. His motive is personal. It always is. The difference, in this instance, is that baseball fans stand to benefit. Nike Air Max 95 Dam Rea . PHILADELPHIA -- Brayden Schenn and Jakob Chychrun punched each other so much they could have used a bell to stop the fight.Schenn would have at least settled for a whistle. With all eyes on the brawl, Martin Hanzal kept his on the puck and slipped it in the net to help the Arizona Coyotes beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 on Thursday night to snap a five-game road losing streak.Schenn, a Flyers center, had no idea why the refs didnt blow the whistle during the scrum.Yeah, thats usually what happens when a fight starts, he said. I dont know if its a delayed whistle or not. I didnt even see the puck go in.Hey, neither did goaltender Steve Mason.Mason allowed Hanzal and Brad Richardson to snap a tie game with two straight goals in the third. Jamie McGinn, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Ryan White also scored for Arizona, which has its only two wins this season against the Flyers. The Coyotes salvaged one victory on a season-long, six-game road trip.Dont kid yourself. Theres still a lot of work to do, Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said.Louis Domingue stopped 28 shots and won his first game of the season. He had been 0-4 with a 5.03 goals against average and had stopped only 85 percent of his shots.Schenn, Nick Cousins, Andrew MacDonald and Wayne Simmonds scored for the Flyers.Arizonas two straight goals in the third came in a bit of a bizarre manner.Schenn leveled defenseman Michael Stone and Chychrun quickly came to his defense. Chychrun and Schenn brawled against the boards as the crowd erupted -- and no one paid attention to the puck.I wasnt really paying attention to what was going on, Mason said. I was focused on the play coming at me. Whether there was a whistle blown or not, we still gave up a goal.Hanzal made it 3-2 and led to a few confusing moments as officials checked to make sure the goal was scored before the fight. Wildly cheering fans fell silent in a second when the goal was announced.I look at the monitor at my feet and you could see the one referee signal its a good goal, Tippett said. But then I dont know what the other one was doing up by the fight.Chychrun was tossed for instigating the fight.Richardson made it 4-2 on a goal that was reviewed because the Flyers thought hee ran down Mason.dddddddddddd Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov took Richardson down and they went into the net together so the goal counted.MacDonald, having a miserable season, made it 4-3 but the Flyers were out of rallies.White scored an insurance goal late in third to send fans toward the exits. Simmonds scored with 14.3 seconds left. The Flyers again had to rally from an early deficit, a troubling theme for a team with playoff aspirations. The Coyotes led 2-0 in the first, the latest slow start for the Flyers. They have been outscored 8-1 in the first period this season and allowed the first goal for the seventh straight game.Coach Dave Hakstol hoped a line change would boost the Flyers offense. He moved 19-year-old rookie center Travis Konecny to the top line with Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek after that late-game pairing helped the Flyers come back from a 3-1 deficit to beat Buffalo. We needed a spark, thats why were trying something a little bit different, Hakstol said. The Flyers needed help early.Moments after they honored former great Eric Lindros -- in his No. 88 sweater -- another 88 got them with a goal. McGinn scored his first goal of the season to beat Mason. Ekman-Larsson followed with a slapper from the point for his fifth goal of the season. The Coyotes, who last won on opening night against the Flyers on Oct. 15, failed to hold the lead.Cousins pounded home a rebound for his first goal of the season and Schenn followed with a power-play score to help the Flyers at least tie the game when down two goals for the fifth time this season.Game notes The Flyers played without a suspended player for the first time this season. ... The Flyers honored 14 members of the teams Hall of Fame, along with the family of six other members, including: Bob Clarke, Ron Hextall, Bernie Parent and Dave Schultz. The Flyers have a variety of nostalgic celebrations planned this season for their 50th anniversary. ... CHICAGO -- With nine new players, including three starters, the Chicago Bulls seemed likely to struggle with cohesion early in the season. However, one of those newcomers -- Rajon Rondo -- has been credited by his teammates with fueling Chicagos fast start.Doug McDermott had 23 points, Jimmy Butler added 16 on 6-of-9 shooting and Rondo had 13 assists to lead the Bulls to a 118-101 rout of the Indiana Pacers on Saturday night, Chicagos second straight victory to open the season.McDermott scored 11 points in the fourth quarter as coach Fred Hoiberg gave his veteran starters -- Butler, Rondo and Dwyane Wade, who had 14 points -- the rest of the night off after the third quarter.Rondo, who has 22 assists in the two games, likely could have racked up a much higher number if he wasnt limited to 25 minutes. He pushes the ball up the floor and he gets it out, so he makes you run to get in front of him, Wade said.Playing with Rondo means you have to be alert at all times.I always tell those guys to understand that, `If you dont think I see you, I probably see you, so be ready for the pass, Rondo said.Who doesnt want the ball? Everybody wants the ball and everybody wants to score.Taj Gibson had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Robin Lopez added 12 points for the Bulls.Paul George and Myles Turner had 20 points apiece to lead the Pacers (1-2), who were coming off a loss at Brooklyn on Friday. The message is loud and clear: we need to get to work, Indiana coach Nate McMillan said.We have a talented team, George said, but its going to take us a couple games to get our chemistry. Well get through our battle wounds early. The Bulls had a 24-20 lead at the end of the first quarter before breaking things open with a dominant second. They scored 38 points on 14-for-18 (77.8 percent) shooting in the quarter to race out to a 62-41 halftime lead.Indiana seemingly ssleep-walked on defense throughout much of the second quarter -- especially in transition where the Bulls had a 19-0 edge in fast-break points.dddddddddddd McDermott had seven points in seven minutes, and five players scored at least five points. Rondo added six assists.Chicago maintained its intensity in the third quarter and stretched the lead to 92-67 entering the fourth. The Bulls lead by as many as 29 points in the final quarter (102-73) before Indiana made a futile run in garbage time to trim the deficit to 112-101 with two minutes to play.TIP-INSPacers: Aaron Brooks (sore right knee) and Rodney Stuckey (right hamstring) sat out with injuries. Stuckey is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday.Bulls: Wade said hes feeling fine but sat out Fridays practice after playing 32 minutes in the opener on Thursday. The 13-year veteran said he will take regular days off to stay healthy and fresh. Certain days (are) better to be mental days than physical days, he said.BENCH WOESThrough three games, the Pacers have been outscored by a total of 33 points in the second quarter. Thats mainly an indictment of the reserves. Our benchs got to get some chemistry. McMillan said. We need to get that (second) team some time on the floor, and they just havent had it.CUBS FEVERWith the Bulls idle Friday night, Wade attended Game 3 of the World Series at Wrigley Field.I noticed that everybody in my family that was at the game, everybody had on Cubs gear -- and I know everybodys not a Cubs fan, he said. Adelaide coach Don Pyke insists he wont be seduced by the lure of percentage as the race for top-two spots in the AFL heats up.The Crows retained third spot on the ladder with a crushing 72-point win over Fremantle at Domain Stadium on Sunday.Eddie Betts booted six goals and Josh Jenkins kicked five in the 21.16 (142) to 11.4 (70) rout. The result left Adelaide just three percentage points adrift of second-placed Sydney.Geelong are also equal on points with Adelaide and Sydney, but are 11.5 per cent behind the Swans.Adelaide will start favourites against Port Adelaide and West Coast (home) in the final two rounds. The Swans will also start favourites in their last two games - against North Melbourne (away) and Richmond (home). And if ladder leaders Hawthorn drop one of their last two games, then first spot will also be up for grabs. It means the difference percentage could end up making or breaking a teams top-two hopes.Adelaide have posted a series of big wins in recent weeks to significantly boost their percentage. But Pyke insists it hasnt been a focus, and it will continue to be a by-product of the teams performance. The reality is the scoreboard will reflect how you play and how you go about playing, Pyke said.So if you start focusing on scoring either for or agaainst and what percentage looks like, I think we can get distracted from the real issues, and that is we want to play good footy.ddddddddddddAnd if we play good footy, that will give us the result. And if that result is four points - great. CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- It was North Carolinas strangest blowout win in a long time.Mitch Trubisky passed for 184 yards and three touchdowns to help the Tar Heels beat The Citadel 41-7 on Saturday.T.J. Logan had a touchdown catch and a 100-yard kickoff return for a score for North Carolina (8-3), which forced a season-high four turnovers. We were worried about that football team, North Carolina coach Larry Fedora said. We knew they were a really good football team, that they would control the clock and that our guys were going to have to steal a few possessions. Defensively, we did that.North Carolina won even though its high-octane offense was quiet for much of the day. The Tar Heels converted just 1 of 8 third downs and were outgained by the Bulldogs 371-356.Perhaps most surprisingly, the Tar Heels intercepted a pass.Dominquie Green ended North Carolinas interception drought when he picked off a pass and returned it 58 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. The Tar Heels had been the only FBS team not to intercept a pass this season.Ryan Switzer added a 72-yard touchdown as North Carolina won for the 11th time in its last 12 home games. The Citadel (10-1) rushed for 344 yards, possessed the ball for more than 42 minutes and ran 33 more plays than North Carolina.Grant Drakeford had a 28-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the Bulldogs, whose school-record 10-game winning streak came to an end.We were nowhere near playing where we wanted today, Citadel coach Brent Thompson said. We needed a day like today to remind us that if you dont play well and you turn the ball over and you make a lot of mistakes, youre not going to win very many football games.THE TAKEAWAYThe Citadel: The Bulldogs stumbled in their stiffest test of the season to date. Lacking an effective passing attack, they were unable to rally after falling behind early. The Citadel must try to avoid similar circumstances in the postseason as opponents load up to try to stop its vaunted running game.North Carolina: Coming off a deflating loss and playing an undefeated opponent with an unconventional offense, the Tar Heels won a dangerous game without much difficulty. Their advantages in speed and overall talent were too much for The Citadel to overcome. We werent as sharp on offense, but we picked it up in other areas, Trubisky said.HE SAID ITFedora had grown tired of talking about his teams lack of interceptions, but he cracked a joke about the end of the streak.I was told that were the only team in the country that has returned all of their interceptions for touchdowns, he said. Thats a pretty big deal right there, I would think.HIGHLIGHT REELLogans 23-yard touchdown grab in the second quarter was impressive. He ran through the middle of the defense uncovered, and it appeared that Trubisky threw the ball too far in front of him. But Logan dived and speared the ball with his right hand before rolling over with control of it in the end zone. His kick return for a score to begin the second half was his school-record fourth kickoff return for a touchdown.UP NEXTThe Citadel: The Bulldogs will play in the FCS playoffs after earning the automatic berth from the Southern Conference.North Carolina: Still alive for the ACCs Coastal Division title, the Tar Heels host rival N.C. State on Friday. North Carolina needs to win and needs Virginia Tech to lose at home to Virginia in order to play in the conference championship game for the second year in a row. STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford returned to the basketball court Friday night after as many as eight of its players completed final exams in the morning.I didnt have the guts to play a high-level Division I team today, coach Jerod Haase said after his Cardinal beat Division II Cal State East Bay 79-55.Reid Travis powered his way to 24 points and 13 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season and Stanford (7-3) made its first seven shots from the field to take charge from the start.Haase said scheduling a Division II opponent after a 13-day break for exams made sense for his team.Finals is a real thing here. The guys are exhausted, he said. We had guys show up for our (12:45 p.m.) shoot around after pulling all-nighters.After a tough finals week its good to have a game like this where we can just work on getting better, senior Grant Verhoeven said. There was a lot out there that wasnt pretty at our end of the court.Travis shot 9 for 10 from the field, playing just 22 minutes. Dorian Pickens added 11 points for Stanford, which shot a season-best 55 percent, including nearly 70 percent in the first half.Cal State East Bay played one night after beating Cal Poly Pomona 78-69 on the road in a Northern California Athletic Conference game. The Pioneers (8-2) counted the Stanford matchup as an exhibition.Whenever you have an opportunity to play a university like this, you have to do it, Pioneers coach Guy Argenal said. For our guys, its learning how to play against the highest competition.Pierre Carter scored 14 points for Cal State East Bay, which shot 29.7 percent.BIG PICTUREStanford: Haase said the Cardinal had just five full practices during its 13 days off for exams. I didnt expect perfect play out there, he said. There were certainly some positives, but theres also a lot of room for growth. Stanford plays twice more before opening Pac-12 play at home against Arizona State on Dec. 30.Cal State East Bay: The Pioneers lost for the third time against a San Francisco Bay Area opponent in a game they designated as an exhibition. Previously, they fell 96-80 to San Jose State and 75-50 to Santa Clara.STAT OF THE NIGHTStanford won easily despite shooting 1 for 7 from the perimeter. The Cardinal scored 42 points in the paint, so perimeter shooting wasnt a priority. But Stanford is converting just 28.7 percent from beyond the arc this year. The 3-point shot has to be part of our offense, Haase said. We have to be more efficient than we have been.UP NEXTStanford: The Cardinal travels to face SMU (8-3) on Monday. The Mustangs already have faced one Pac-12 opponent, losing 78-73 to USC.Cal State East Bay: The Pioneers return to Division II competition Monday when they hosts Cal State Los Angeles in a California College Athletic Association game. Fake Nike Air Max 90 .com) - The red-hot Los Angeles Kings will try to extend their winning streak to a season-high seven games when they visit the Edmonton Oilers for Sundays clash at Rexall Place. He didnt look like the second coming of Native Dancer when he left California last week, and he looked pretty much like the same iron-gray colt when he walked off the Hubbard van Monday afternoon at Del Mar.But what a difference a record-setting, 13-1/2-length win in the Travers can make, for its all eyes now on Arrogate, the son of Unbridleds Song who dismantled Americas oldest stakes race last Saturday with the ease of a child crumbling a tower made of Legos. There at Bob Bafferts barn FF, with the American Pharoah Triple Crown plaque mounted high on the concrete wall, Arrogate got a quick foot rinse, a tour of the tow ring, and a long drink of water before being soaped down, sponged off, and put away in his stall next to his even grayer stablemate, Cupid. (And no, Arrogate does not live in American Pharoahs Del Mar stall. American Freedom must deal with those ghosts.)Baffert has been swinging hard all year trying to replace the irreplaceable American Pharoah from a deep bench that would put the 1927 Yankees to shame. He started with Mor Spirit, doubled down with Cupid, and unleashed American Freedom to win a cluster of second-tier 3-year-old events without really stirring the blood. On paper, Arrogate appeared to be no more or less than the next batter up, with no stakes experience and a pedigree that offered cold comfort at the 1-1/4 miles required by the Travers. So much for paper.Mike couldnt stop talking, Baffert said of his Travers rider, Mike Smith. He was like, Did you see that? Can you believe that? I dont believe that. He was cracking me up.While Baffert was holding it in.After the race, I was all ready to give it the Usain Bolt, he said, striking the Olympic sprinters trademark lightning-bolt victory pose. But then I thought Im here at Saratoga, training for Juddmonte, and maybe I better keep it low key.The idea that trainers working for Prince Khalid Abdullah must maintain a strict sense of public propriety is due mainly to their high regard for the man himself. There are no particular rules of behavior required, but if the Juddmonte aura discourages Baffert from putting a trophy on his head, so be it.In the end, its the horse that counts, and those insiders and wise guys touting Arrogates superior skills before the Travers could be considered guilty of arrogating, that is, to claim something without justification. They also were right.History is full of one-trick ponies, which means Arrogates next step in the Breeders Cup Classic will be his defining challenge. If he can do it again against California Chrome, Frosted, and whatever Aidan OBrien brings to Santa Anita in November, then we can talk about the gray colt as one of the great late bloomers.ddddddddddddIn the meantime, it is worth noting that Arrogate is not the first horse named Arrogate to make racing history. And the old Arrogate did some of his best work at Del Mar, not far from where the new Arrogate lives today.Old Arrogate was a foal of 1951 born into privilege at Calumet Farm but later sold to Southern California refuse entrepreneur Dick Gregorian. Reggie Cornell trained Arrogate to his most significant West Coast victories, which included the 1955 and 1956 runnings of the Del Mar Handicap, then run at nine furlongs on the main track. What a business Gregorian had, said Hall of Famer Ron McAnally, who worked for his Uncle Reggie at the time. After his trucks picked up all the trash, hed have it all separated into bottles, cans, paper, and garbage. The bottles, cans, and paper hed sell, and the garbage theyd take to a pig yard to feed the pigs. And they were his pigs! Every part of the operation was profit.Arrogate was the younger half-brother of Calumets Sun Again, the winner of the Arlington Futurity, and Fervent, a colt who on his best days could beat horses like Stymie, Phalanx, and his stablemate Armed. He was a chestnut horse, McAnally said of Arrogate. Ideal to work with. No problems at all.In his first Del Mar Handicap win, Arrogate defeated Bobby Broccato, the winner of the Santa Anita Handicap and San Juan Capistrano. In his second Del Mar score, Arrogate turned back Honeys Alibi, the winner of the Malibu Stakes and the San Diego Handicap -- but something more.It was on Sept. 3, 1956, 60 years ago Saturday, that Arrogate carried John Longden to his 4,871st victory in that Del Mar Handicap, passing the record established by Englands Sir Gordon Richards. Longdens age at the time was reported as 46, and he rode for another 10 years, retiring at what he announced was 59. Go ahead, do the math. The old Arrogate ended up winning seven stakes, a quarter-million dollars, and posted a record of 20 wins and 22 placings from 83 starts. But since he was neither a Horse of the Year, nor an Eclipse Award winner, nor the winner of a race in the Triple Crown, his name was available to be recycled after 25 years. No one touched it until Prince Khalid snapped it up for his gray son of Unbridleds Song. Now the new Arrogate is flying the name high and proud after setting a Saratoga track record for 1-1/4 miles in the Travers, just as the old Arrogate set a Del Mar track record for 1-1/8 miles in the 1956 Handicap. Sometimes history can be so cool. ' ' '

We are confident in our team, if we keep working hard and at the same level we have been we can beat any team, he told Sky Sports News HQ. Thats not arrogance, its confidence and thats the way we have to play. We just have to focus game by game. Its a cliche but its the way we have to play. We have seven finals left so lets start at Liverpool. Toby Alderweireld and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris have formed part of the meanest defence in the league The centre-back has been integral to Spurs impressive campaign, which has seen them score the most and concede the least number of goals in the league, but he refused to be drawn on those who say he is the best defender in England.Im enjoying this season. Its wonderful at Spurs and Im really happy, so Im just trying to keep my level until the end of the season, he added. Its their right to say it but I dont feel that way. CARMEL, Ind. -- Jason Day withdrew from the BMW Championship after eight holes on Sunday with back pain, making him ineligible for the Vardon Trophy.Day has a history of back issues, most recently at the Dell Match Play in the spring. The worlds No. 1 player barely made it through the opening round when his back locked up on him and he considered pulling out. The back got better, and Day went on to win.He was 2-over par for his final round at Crooked Stick and in the middle of the pack when his agent, Bud Martin, said he felt pain stooping to pick up his tee.The injury was not considered serious, and Day was hopeful of being in Atlanta in two weeks for the Tour Championship and a shot at the $10 million FedEx Cup bonus. The Australian was leading the Vardon Trophy for the lowest adjusted scoring average going into the BMW Championship. He was ahead by a slight margin over Dustin Johnson, and Johnson was sure to pass him easily going into the final event. However, players who withdraw in the middle of a round are not eligible for the award from the PGA of America, which dates to 1937.Day went straight for treatment.I dont think its anything he hasnt dealt with before, Martin said. He just bent over and it kind of went on him on the ninth hole. Instead of forcing it, we just decided that it was more prudent to come in, get it worked on and deal with it.Martin said Day might choose to have more tests next week just to be sure, but my gut is that hell be fine. The PGA Tour is off next week. The Tour Championship for the top 30 players starts Sept. 22 at East Lake.Hopefully, hell be ready for Atlanta, Martin said. But the most important thing is the next 15 years, not the next 15 days.
