STORRS, Conn. -- Geno Auriemma expected his young team to go through growing pains early in the season as they adjusted to life without the Huskies Big Three. So far theyve grown up pretty quickly.Freshman Crystal Dangerfield scored 19 points, Katie Lou Samuelson added 16 and No. 3 UConn extended its winning streak to 77 games with a 72-61 victory over second-ranked Baylor on Thursday night.I think we grew up a lot, Auriemma said . Came of age so to speak. That doesnt mean were older enough to not grow some more. The streak is the second longest in womens college basketball history, standing 13 short of the school record set by the Huskies from 2008-10. With stars Breanna Stewart, Morgan Tuck and Moriah Jefferson gone to the WNBA, Auriemma wasnt sure what to expect from his team early. So far hes been impressed after victories over No. 12 Florida State and now Baylor. What I saw today was surprising, the Hall of Fame coach said. With the game tied at 54 early in the fourth quarter, UConn took over. The Huskies scored 16 of the next 18 points to put the game away. Dangerfield, a diminutive guard, made a spectacular layup with 4:03 left that brought the near sellout crowd to its feet and made it 62-56. Baylor (2-1) couldnt recover.I wont disappear in big games, Dangerfield said. I want to attack. I want to be in those situations. I feel like I have the experience to do it, so Ill be there.Unlike during the 75 games leading into this season where the Huskies (2-0) won every game by double digits and most were decided by halftime, this seasons squad has had to pull out its first two wins in the final quarter. We can fight. We can push back. I think we kind of showed the rest of the country, like OK, its not going to be as easy as you think it is to beat UConn this year, Gabby Williams said.Trailing 40-38 midway through the third quarter, UConn scored 12 of the next 13 points to open up the lead. Kia Nurse got the run started with a jumper and Dangerfield capped it with a 3-pointer.Baylor wouldnt go away, going on a 12-2 run to tie the game at 54 early in the fourth quarter. Alexis Jones, who led the Lady Bears with 23 points, keyed the spurt.UConn contained 6-foot-7 Baylor sophomore Kalani Brown. She had 25 points and 19 rebounds in a win over No. 9 UCLA on Monday. She had just nine points and five rebounds against the Huskies as she was saddled by foul trouble.I thought we faced a lot of adversity tonight, Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said. Calls, momentum. We hung in there even through mistakes. We got to crunch time and we had wasted possessions. Those things have to be fixed and they will.BIG PICTURE:Baylor: The Lady Bears were trying to get a measure of revenge, as the Huskies ended their 69-game home winning streak on Jan. 13, 2014. That was the last meeting between the teams until Thursday. ... Preseason All-America Nina Davis was scoreless in 24 minutes.UConn: Two games in and the Huskies have already played two of the top 12 teams in the country. Before the regular season is finished, UConn will have played six of the other top eight teams in the poll. Its the first time the Huskies have opened the season with two ranked opponents since 1998-99. They played three consecutive ranked teams (Duke, Arkansas and UCLA) that season. ... The Huskies have won 50 straight home games. ... The UConn Huskies unveiled their championship banner from last season before the game.POLL IMPLICATIONS:UConn should move up at least one spot in the poll while Baylor will drop at least one place.SERIES HISTORY:These teams played five times between 2010 and 2014 -- the only meetings between the storied programs until Thursday night.UP NEXT:Baylor: After playing back-to-back top 10 teams, the Lady Bears return home to face Mississippi Valley State on Sunday. Baylor has only played top 10 teams in the first three games of the season one other time, in 2012. The Lady Bears split those games, beating Kentucky and losing to Stanford.UConn: The Huskies travel to LSU to face the Tigers on Sunday.---Follow Doug on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/dougfeinberg Balenciaga False .ca looks back at the stories and moments that made the year memorable. PITTSBURGH -- Its been about a month since Pittsburgh Penguins coach Mike Sullivan had a talk with winger Phil Kessel. Sullivan wanted to see Kessels wicked shot more to, he hoped, increase his scoring. The Ottawa Senators, who visit PPG Paints Arena on Monday night, will have a chance to see the results, although they might not be thrilled about that.Over the past six games, Kessel has scored four goals to double his total from the first six weeks of the season. He has been contributing all season -- he has 16 assists and ranks third on the team with 24 points -- but seems to be getting back to the snipers role that has defined his career.Sullivan noted that when Kessel is on the puck, hes a threat. Hes got such a great shot, whether its off the rush, underneath the hash marks. ... We have to be a team that can generate offense different ways.Kessel has 29 shots over the past eight games. Saturday, he scored twice in a 5-3 win over Detroit, his first multi-goal game of the season. Those two goals came off of slick passes by Evgeni Malkin and Carl Hagelin, and Kessel was quick to deflect most of the credit to those two, and in hockeyese.Geno sauced me a good one on the first one, and Haggy made a great backdoor for a tap-in, Kessel said.Translation: Malkin found him with a cross-ice saucer pass for a one-timer, and Hagelins pass cut across the grain. The Penguins (15-7-3) have won two games in a row for the first time in almost a month, since Nov. 6 and 8, but they remain neck and neck and neck with the Rangers and Washington as the three jostle for the Metropolitan Division lead. The Senators (15-8-2), meanwhile, beat Florida 2-0 Saturday to break a two-game losing streak. The win brought them within two points of Montreal atop the Atlantic Division -- although the Canadiens then picked up another two points Sunday in a shootout win against Los Angeles.Ottawa coach Guy Boucher sensed some fatigue after the two straight losses, so he called off Fridays practice, and Saturdays morning skate was a lightly-attended optional. We needed to give the guys a rest, Boucher said. We were definitely hoping to have more energy, and thats exactly what happened. You saw that right off the bat. Our guys were skating hard. They were ready. Now the Senators will need to be ready to start a four-game, nine-day road trip that heads to the West Coast following the game against the Penguins. With goaltender Craig Anderson on leave from Ottawa to be with his wife as she battles cancer, Pittsburgh could see a familiar face in goal for Ottawa on Monday.Mike Condon began the season with the Penguins while Matt Murray recovered from a broken thumb. He played just one period. When Murray returned, Pittsburgh traded Condon to the Senators.Condon is 3-1-1 with Ottawa, including two shutouts -- the second one a 24-save job Saturday against Florida. Its quite a run.I dont really look too far in the past or too far in the future, Condon said. Im just trying to keep the game simple and just stay in the moment. Cheap Jerseys From China . Newcastle dominated in the early stages but City weathered the storm and then raised its game in extra time. RENO, Nev. -- Concerns about a controversial off-road race running through a new national monument in Nevada turned out to be much ado about nothing -- sort of.The Vegas-to-Reno Best in the Desert Race didnt end up crossing into the Basin and Range National Monument on Aug. 19 as was planned and approved by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management over the objections of conservationists. The 37-mile segment on existing dirt roads through the monument northeast of Las Vegas was rerouted because a military helicopter crashed and sparked a wildfire nearby the night before.Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, a suburban Washington D.C.-based government watchdog group representing past and present federal workers, had argued unsuccessfully for months that the two-day, 640-mile race dubbed the longest of its kind in the nation would cause ecological damage to the fragile desert lands in the monument President Obama designated last summer stretching across more than 1,000 square miles.Kind of a weird ending, Jeff Ruch, the groups executive director, told The Associated Press on Thursday. Nobody is explicitly saying anything, but the race through the monument never happened.Ruch said he didnt learn of the last-minute detour until he received a confidential call from a BLM employee earlier this week. The agencys failure to inform the public was further evidence of the secrecy surrounding the inappropriate approval of the route in the first place, he said.BLM spokesman Chris Hanefeld confirmed Thursday agency officials informed race organizers hours before the start they had decided to reroute the coursee so the Air Force could secure the crash site.dddddddddddd. He said the detour was selected from alternatives studied as part of an environmental assessment conducted before approving the original route a week before the start. We didnt issue a press release. Why would we? Hanefeld said Thursday. The bottom line is the helicopter went down for whatever reason. They needed to secure the site. We needed to make a decision. We made a good decision, so the race went on. Everything went well, he said. The U.S. Air Force said in a statement the day after the helicopter crash that four crew members were treated for non-life threatening injuries after the HH-60G Pave Hawk from Nellis Air Force Base went down during a night training mission on the Nevada Test and Training Range near the monument.Based in part on earlier criticism from PEER, BLM had set a 35 mph speed limit on the original route through the monument, and prohibitted any passing of vehicles so as to ensure the racers remained on the established dirt roads. More than 350 all-terrain vehicles, including trucks, cars, dune buggies and motorcycles competed in timed intervals in the two-day race that ended near Dayton on Aug. 20.The fact that BLM had already reduced this race to a glorified parade only underlined it should never have allowed racing inside the monument in the first place, Ruch said. Plotting this race through a national moment was conceived in secrecy, so it is only fitting that it ended in a mysterious fog. ' ' '

Harry Kane drew Spurs level from the penalty spot After Leverkusen were held 1-1 by CSKA in the early game in Group E, Spurs kicked off knowing a draw would be enough to take it to the sixth and final matchday.Mauricio Pochettino made three changes after the 3-2 win over West Ham, bringing in Kieran Trippier, Heung-Min Son and Kevin Wimmer. They should have been ahead early on after Dele Alli played Son through on goal, but the South Korean fluffed his chance as he tried to take the ball around Monaco goalkeeper Danijel Subasic. Hugo Lloris saved a first-half penalty from Radamel Falcao The Ligue 1 side were awarded a penalty with 10 minutes gone after some lax Spurs defending resulted in Fabinho being caught by Diers stray leg, but Falcao saw his spot-kick saved superbly by Lloris down low to his right.Lloris then recovered well again after parrying Benjamin Mendys effort from the left angle into a dangerous area, before Valere Germains free header at the farr post hit the chest of Wimmer.ddddddddddddGermain, who caused problems throughout for Spurs with his running in behind the defence, then flashed a shot from an acute angle just wide of Lloris right post, and Spurs were lucky to go into the break unscathed. Tottenhams goalkeeper Hugo Lloris put in a fine performance Alli missed a late chance at the far post from Christian Eriksens corner, turning the ball wide on the stretch, and Monaco held on for the win to send Tottenham out of the Champions League in Pochettinos first season in the competition. The win also continued Monacos fine run against English sides in the competition, having knocked out Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United over the past 20 years.Paul Walshs view on Soccer SpecialI think they will go for it in the Europa League, its a route back into the Champions League. The way theyre playing at the moment, the wheels of their season could come off, and theres no guarantee theyll finish in the top four, so they need every route open to them. Theyve got to stop dreaming and start playing again.I cant describe their Champions League form. After that fantastic result against Manchester City, I just dont really know whats gone wrong. The fluency, belief, confidence, seems to have drained out of them, and especially in the Champions League theyve been so poor. They havent had a performance in any of their five games.Upgrade to Sky Sports now and get 12 months half price. Hurry, offer ends December 4! ' ' '

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills star defensive tackle Marcell Dareus has been suspended four games for another positive test for marijuana, sources confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The Bills announced Dareus suspension Tuesday afternoon but did not offer specifics. The positive marijuana test was first reported by NFL Network. We are very disappointed Marcell chose to put himself first, before his teammates, coaches, the rest of the organization, and fans through his recent actions, the Bills said in a statement. From ownership down we have made it clear his behavior is unacceptable. We will continue to take the necessary steps to work with him in order that he adheres to the policies set forth by our league.Dareus will forfeit $1.505 million in total compensation, which includes his signing bonus and option bonus. He took to Instagram to discuss his most recent suspension. The sixth-year defensive tackle was previously suspended for the first game of the 2015 season for a violation of the substance-abuse policy following a May 2014 arrest in Alabama for criminal possession of a controlled substance. The suspension is another blow to the Bills defense, which lost starting outside linebacker Shaq Lawson to offseason shoulder surgery that is expected to keep him out until Week 6 at the earliest, a source told Schefter. Buffalo also will be without starting inside linebacker Reggie Ragland this season after he tore his ACL in training camp.In the absence of Dareus, the Bills could turn to veterans Kyle Williams or Corbin Bryant to start at nose tackle in Rex Ryans 3-4 defensive scheme. The team also signed a pair of veteran defensive linemen Monday -- Brandon Deaderick and Alameda Taamu -- to add depth. In addition to Dareus, the team will be without second-year running back Karlos Williams for the first four games of the season for a violation of the NFLs substance-abuse policy. The Bills will be subject to a steep fine from the NFL based on the NFLs remittance policy -- the result of having multiple players suspended in a single season.Dareus, 26, was named to the Pro Bowl in 2013 and 2014. The third-overall pick of the 2011 draft, Dareus signed a six-year, $100 million extension with the Bills last September. Cheap Jerseys From China . - Oakland Raiders running back Rashad Jennings was speaking to a group of local high school students earlier this week when the conversation turned to the importance of being prepared when opportunities in life arise. TROON, Scotland -- One of the games longest hitters is mystified by one of its shortest holes.Bubba Watson ranks near the top of nearly every statistical driving category on the PGA Tour, and that length trickles all the way down through the bag to his wedges. That didnt keep him from running into trouble on the famed Postage Stamp hole at Royal Troon, where the two-time Masters champion could not blast his way out of trouble -- either figuratively or literally. Having played the first seven holes at The Open in 5-under par on Thursday, Watson made a triple-bogey 6 at the short but fiendish par-3 eighth to tumble down the leaderboard. Watson needed a birdie at the last hole to shoot 1-under-par 70.I hit one bad shot all day, said Watson, referring to the 48-degree pitching wedge he used at the 124-yard eighth hole. And I hit it on the wrong spot. I just hit it on the par-3 there. That hole has been killing me all week, even in practice. So one bad swing there.Watsons tee shot came to rest in the famed Coffin Bunker that sits to the left of the green, a long, rectangular hazard that swallowed more than a few balls during the opening day of the 145th Open.Pot bunkers on a links course can be particularly penal, and that was certainly the case here. Watsons ball was up against the side lip, meaning the lefty could address that ball only with his back to the hole. His only play was to try to blast the ball out away from the pin, and he did well to get it out, seeing the ball barely clearly the far lip, then roll over the green and partway down a hill into some deep rough.I was trying to hit it there, Watson said. My caddie [Ted Scott] went and looked for me. Im not going to try to ricochet it off the hill in the tall grass. But my caddie went and looked and I went and looked. I couldnt get in there and hit it the other way, so its just one of those things. Then I was just hoping for a good lie, and I hit it. I didnt guess what the lie was too well on the first shot that came back. So it was just one of those things.Watson said he misjudged his thiird shot, and saw the chip roll back toward him.dddddddddddd After hitting onto the green for his fourth, he two-putted for a 6 that saw him drop three shots in a matter of moments.Asked what happened, Watson said: Theres lots of reasons, but that would be making excuses. So Im just going to say Im not very good under pressure on that short hole.Watson said he struggled with the hole in practice as well, hitting into the same bunker on Wednesday. What ultimately occurred was that Watson expected the wind from the left to have more effect on his tee shot.In my mind, I feel like the wind is coming from the left, but its coming from the right, he lamented. Youd think after three days of practice in a tournament Id figure that out. Hopefully by the end of the week well figure it out. While Watson was alone in making a triple-bogey on the eighth, it did rank as relatively difficult, playing over par for most of the day. And that is saying something when you are discussing a 124-yard hole that requires just a wedge. As Colin Montgomerie said of the hole earlier in the week, If you do happen to miss the green, well, game on, you know? Drama unfolds from then on, depending where and what lie youre in.Watson, 37, has never finished better than a tie for 23rd in The Open and has four missed cuts in seven previous appearances. He nonetheless felt good about his score, despite the triple-bogey. He had seven birdies, three bogeys and a double, and managed to roll in a birdie putt on the last hole. After a long day on the course, Watson said he had yet to look at an updated weather forecast for Friday; hell be teeing off in the afternoon. He knew it was supposed to be bad and his caddie, Scott, later tweeted the ominous news: Today at The Open was a walk in the park. Better buckle up for tomorrow though. Scottish weather gonna bring the pain.By Friday afternoon, perhaps the Postage Stamp will be just a minor annoyance for Watson. ' ' '

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Steve Pikiell was happier for his team than for himself after getting his first win as Rutgers coach. These guys have worked hard, said Pikiell after Mike Williams scored 17 points in Rutgers 86-57 season-opening win over Division II Molloy Friday night. They played defense and it was a total team (effort). Everyone who came in the game helped us.Pikiell took over for Eddie Jordan after 11 seasons at Stony Brook, where he guided the Seawolves to the NCAA Tournament last season. It was the largest margin of victory for a head coach in their Rutgers debut, and the Knights largest margin of victory in an opener since defeating Bentley, 100-60, in 1975.Deshawn Freeman got his first career double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds with three blocked shots for the Scarlet Knights (1-0).Its been a while, said Freeman, who red-shirted after seven games last year. To be back playing is really exciting. Especially to get a win. It felt good.Transfers Nigel Johnson (Kansas State) and CJ Gettys (UNC-Wilmington) added 11 points and six rebounds in their Rutgers debuts.Charlie Marquardt, the coachs son, had 19 points for Molloy (0-1), while Jaylen Morris added 13.Rutgers took a 9-0 lead that it never relinquished. Molloy got within five early in the second half and trailed 52-46 before the Scarlet Knights scored 18 straight to break it open.I think when we got it to five we ran out of gas, Molloy coach Charles Marquardt said. But with 12 minutes left its five, what more can I ask for?BIG PICTUREMolloy: Despite the loss, playing tough against a Big Ten opponent was a positive experience for a young team that includes five freshmen and just two holdover seniors.Rutgers: The return of Freeman is a huge boost to the Knights frontcourt. After transferring from junior college, Freeman injured his knee -- and was granted a medical redshirt -- while averaging 13.1 points and 5.3 rebounds last season.BENCH BOOSTWilliams came off the bench and hit 5-of-8 3-pointers, as Rutgers reserves scored exactly half of the Knights points. I have to give credit to my teammates, Williams said. They believe in me and know what Im capable of. They gave it to me in my sweet spot and I was able to knock them down.LONG ISLAND SUPPORTLike Stony Brook, Molloy is located on Long Island. Although the schools never met when Pikiell coached the Seawolves, Marquardt feels he can turn Rutgers around. I think hes going to be great, he said. Hes got skills, hes got guys that can knock down shots and tremendous size.GOAL METPikiell said one of his teams goals is to hold teams under 40 percent shooting, which Rutgers did in limiting Molloy to 38 percent.UP NEXTMolloy: The Lions will see how well conditioned they are as they play the College of St. Rose on Saturday and face LeMoyne Sunday in the College of Saint Rose Tipoff Classic.Rutgers: After a day off, Rutgers hosts Drexel Sunday afternoon as Pikiell attempts to become the first coach to start 2-0 in his first season at Rutgers since Bob Wenzel in 1988. Oshae Brissett Jersey . -- Brandon Jennings made the most of his first game with the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night. LARAMIE, Wyo. -- Beating its second Colorado opponent in as many weeks is big in more ways than one for a young Wyoming program that won just two games last season.Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen said wins against Air Force on Saturday and against Colorado State the previous week are important not only to the Cowboys program as a whole but to the many players on the Wyoming roster who hail from neighboring Colorado and may have not been recruited by the Colorado teams.Obviously theres some heated tension, I guess, between us and Colorado teams, said Allen, who threw for three touchdowns in leading the Cowboys over Air Force 35-26 Saturday.Allen completed 15 of 27 passes for 173 yards for Wyoming (4-2, 2-0 Mountain West). He had TD passes of 17 yards to Tanner Gentry, 20 yards to Jake Maulhardt and 32 yards to Jacob Hollister. After the game, Allen lamented a couple of missed throws to wide-open receivers that would have resulted in big gains. We played good enough to win even with those few mistakes that I made, he said.Allen also rushed for 74 yards, including a 34-yard run to set up a TD that iced the win in the final two minutes.Falcons safety Weston Steelhammer said Allen is a very dynamic quarterback both on the ground and through the air.He made something out of nothing more than once, he said.Brian Hill contributed 92 yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Cowboys, who more than tripled the 53 rushing yards Air Force had held its opponents on average in the previous four games.Air Force (4-1, 1-1) was led by quarterback Nate Romine, who passed for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Romine was also intercepted three times after entering the game without having thrownn an interception on the season.ddddddddddddI just dont think we were locked in, especially me, Romine said. That was probably my worst football Ive ever played since Ive been here.Wyomings defense held the Falcons to 149 yards rushing. The Falcons had been averaging 312.8 rushing yards a game.THE TAKEWAYAIR FORCE: The Falcons saw their hopes for starting the season 5-0 for the first time since 2003 dashed.Falcons coach Troy Calhoun said Wyomings offensive and defensive lines had too much size.I thought it was pretty evident that theyre eating well, Calhoun said.WYOMING: The Cowboys have won four of the last six meetings between the two teams. The defense has scored in three consecutive games. On Saturday, linebacker D.J. May picked up a fumble by Jacobi Owens on Air Forces 15-yard line and jogged into the end zone. The Cowboys defense has scored four touchdowns off turnovers this season.Wyoming coach Craig Bohl attributed the opportunistic defense to better speed and athleticism in the unit this year. Were ahead of the curve there, and we just got to keep it coming. I know it helps a lot, he said.POLL IMPLICATIONSAir Force received votes in last weeks AP poll after winning its first four games of the season, but the loss to Wyoming likely will result in voters losing interest in the Falcons.UP NEXTAIR FORCE: The Falcons will host New Mexico on Saturday, but the game will be played at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas as one of the college games during the annual Texas State Fair.WYOMING: The Cowboys have a bye week before heading to Nevada on Oct. 22. Who qualifies as a sporting great? Who can really be called a legend? Some gain more support than others but, in the modern era, tennis?Andy Murray?and Formula?Ones Lewis Hamilton are at the top of the list in the British sporting pantheon.Comparing them with other enduring heroes is tough. Its easy to make cases for people such as Booby Moore, Englands World Cup-winning captain or five-time Olympic-gold-medal-winner Steve Redgrave. There are many others who deserve a mention, too, including Jackie Stewart, the unquestioned king of the F1 road in his day, Chris Hoy, who swept Olympic, Commonwealth and World Championship rivals away and 3-time Open winner Nick Faldo. But after a brilliant British sporting weekend that saw the nations tennis players claim five titles at Wimbledon, Hamilton win his home Grand Prix and Chris Froome retain the yellow jersey in the Tour de France, the focus is on two for whom the crown of the greatest appears to fits most snugly:Andy MurrayWhen he started out on tennis mens tour the nation couldnt decide whether he was more Scottish or British. In newspaper offices, journalists swung between the two descriptions depending on how well he was doing.?Today, things have changed. Murray is a multiple Grand Slam winner, Olympic champion and the guy who led his country to Davis Cup glory after an achingly-long wait.Hes the world No.2 in his sports greatest era and has shattered numerous long-standing records that had hung heavily from the nations shoulders. But there is more: he is also a tennis statesman, proud dad and fans favourite. The way Murray stops to sign programmes and tennis balls when he moves around Wimbledons courts, or has the time for a string of selfies with supporters in the corridors within the Centre Court building after wining the biggest title in his sport, speaks volumes.Even the morning after celebrating his latest Grand Slam title, when ESPN asked him about the legacy hed like to leave at the end of his career, he seemed a little embarrassed, too modest to have thought about his place in the British sporting pantheon.I dont know what my legacy will be, he said. When I finish, it would be nice if British tennis was in a better place than when I came in.Murray is no flash, money-mad sporting figure. In many ways, he is an anti-hero who has achieved fame and fortune despite a character which no marketing man would describe as perfect. Even Murrays camp describe him as a bit nerdy. The 29-year-old has earned a claim to British sporting greatness through talent and hard work, building his physique and honing his skills. Most of the other image-making elements which increase the popularity -- or notoriety -- of others have been eschewed. But when tennis has struggled with doping and betting scandals, he has been the voice of reason; the guy who gives an honest, thought-through opinion.Murray has shown his emotions and people have found they can relate to him as a result. Better than that, pundits, fans and the man in the street who only watches tennis once a year when it is served with strawberries and cream, can admire him.If he finally dethrones his great rival, Novak Djokovic, a stronger candidate would be hard to imagine.Leo SpallLewis HamiltonCome off the A10, drive through the unassuming housing estate and cross over the canal. If you find yourself at the sewage works, youve gone too far. This is where the story started -- a small go-kart track called Rye House in southern Hertfordshire. From the age of seven, Hamilton would complete laps of the circuit while his father, Anthony, stood behind the tyre barrier watching on.Aside from monitoring the progress of his son, Anthony would keep an eye on the more experienced karters, making a note of where the best ones hit the brakes for the trickiest corners.Once hed correlated the fastest times with the latest braking points, hed stand at the side of the track as a marker for his son to beat. Lap after lap, Hamilton Jnr would brake later and later, push harder and harder, until finally no-one could beat him.Fast forward 25 years and Hamiltons desire to be the latest driver on the brakes and the fastest driver on the circuit havent changed. But pretty much everything else has.The second-hand go-kart has been traded up to a world-beating Mercedes F1 car (he now has a team of engineers to analyse each braking point) and his humble roots in Hertfordshire have long been left behind for an exclusive residence in Monaco. He is now an international superstar known the world over -- and often for reasons that have nothing to do with his sport. But dont fall into the trap of misunderstanding Hamilton. At the core there remains a talented, determined and serious sportsman. At 31 years of age he is currently in his prime and on his way to a goal no other British driver has ever achieved: a fourth F1 world championship. He truly is on the verge of greatness.Laurence Edmondson Fake Sneakers China . Stoffel Vandoorne thinks hes already proven to McLaren he has similar speed to Fernando Alonso and Jesnon Button as he continues pushing for a 2017 race seat.McLaren reserve Vandoorne won a record-breaking GP2 crown last year but remains uncertain of his F1 future, with a drive at the team hinging on whether it decides to drop Jenson Button for 2017. The Belgian deputised for the injured Fernando Alonso at the Bahrain Grand Prix this year and scored points on his debut with a strong drive to ninth position. The Belgian drove for McLaren at Silverstone during Wednesdays test, and also took part in the Barcelona test in May, and believes he has shown McLaren what he is capable of with his time in the car.Asked if he felt like McLarens engineers valued his feedback, he replied: Yes I see no reason why not. Ive driven an F1 grand prix, quite a few days in an F1 car now and proven I have a similar speed to [Alonso and Button].Vandoorne is unlikely to know his future until McLaren has decided on Button, who has been linked with a return to Williams in recent weeks. In the past two seasons McLaren has waited late to confirm -- it only decided on its 2015 line-up in December of the previous year, leaving Kevin Maggnussen without a drive after being dropped in favour of Button.ddddddddddddWhen asked if he has to wait for McLaren to make a choice, he replied: The main goal is to be in F1 next year, that hasnt changed, I am contracted to McLaren and I want to be with this team next year. Ive spent a lot of time with the team and engineers and feel weve been through a perfect preparation. There is not much more I can really do to get the drive now. I would love to race for this team but Ive always said if for some reason it doesnt become possible I am positive that there are other options available.Vandoorne is currently competing in Super Formula in Japan alongside his reserve driver commitments and believes he has a lot of interested observers in the paddock.I think everybody is interested in what I am doing. This year I see as a preparation year for next year and my main focus is still to get an F1 drive next year. I will focus on my role as the reserve driver but having a racing programme alongside that is a good benefit to stay race fit and sharp in any case I need to jump in the car. ' ' '

Newcastle are top of the Sky Bet Championship but just how good are Rafael Benitezs side? Whoscored.com dig into the stats ahead of Sundays clash with Leeds United live on Sky Sports... The return of the Championship is bookended by the two biggest matches of the weekend, with the Sky cameras pitching up at the Amex Stadium for Brightons clash with Aston Villa on Friday night before Newcastles clash with Leeds at Elland Road on Sunday.High-flying Brighton are unbeaten in 10 games and host a resurgent Villa side who are yet to lose under new boss Steve Bruce. Its not an easy game, but it represents a chance for Chris Hughtons charges to move level on points with the team to beat at the top of the table. In the summer the bookies priced up Newcastle as the strongest favourites ever to win the Championship, such was the support behind a club that invested heavily in the transfer market and, crucially, kept hold of a manager whose CV is unrivalled at this level.Rafael Benitezs decision to stay on at St. James Park despite last seasons relegation from the Premier League was arguably the biggest factor behind the Magpies early billing as the second tiers best ever side. Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez was the Sky Bet EFL Manager of the Month for October Optimism was dampened after they lost their opening two matches to Fulham and Huddersfield at the start of the campaign, but having acclimatised to their new surroundings and bedded in a large number of summer arrivals, they are once again being touted as overwhelming favourites, despite Brightons close proximity in the table.A look at WhoScored.coms statistical team ratings actually suggests the Seagulls have been the stronger side over the course of the season. Their score of 7.02 is the highest in the league ahead of Newcastles 6.98, though both figures rank highly in relation to previous promoted sides. Leeds vs Newcastle November 20, 2016, 1:00pm Live on Get Sky Sports Get a Sky Sports pass In fact, the only two teams to have gone up in the last two seasons with a higher rating than either of this seasons top two are Leicester (7.00), in their title-winning 2013/14 campaign, and Bournemouth (7.04), when they won the league the following season. The subsequent success of both of those sides in the top-flight certainly suggests that both Newcastle and Brighton are well-equipped to make the step up.Moreover, if you were to exclude Newcastles ratings from their first two games of the season, the Magpies WhoScored.com rating would be 7.07. Its a figure that will surely rise further if they continue in their current vein of form, demonstrating that few teams in the Championships history can match the current leaders strength. One of the key factors behind the success of Benitezs side thus far has undoubtedly been their effective movements in the summer transfer window. While Dwight Gayle steals the spotlight in that regard, leading the scoring charts in Englands second tier with 11 goals for a rating of 7.34, the impact of a number of less heralded recruits has been just as decisive. Whoscored.coms top rated Newcastle players this season Of their first team regulars this season, four of Newcastles top six rated players are new arrivals.Top of the list is Ciaran Clark (7.42), who few would have expected to become such a key member of the side. Indeed, when Newcastle announced the capture of the defender from touted promotion rivals Aston Villa, it seemed a slightly odd move at the time. Benitez had already signed Grant Hanley to bolster his defensive ranks, had named Jamaal Lascelles as his captain and could also call upon Chancel Mbemba. In fact, Clarks addition was tipped in the local media to provide competition at left-back as much as centre-half, perhaps reading too much into the fact that the Ireland international had made a handful of appearances in that position at Villa. Ciaran Clark has impressed for Newcastle since his arrival from Aston Villa Make no mistake, though, Clark is central defender, and hes proving to be a very good one at this level. He has scored twice and is offering both the most interceptions (2.1) and clearances (8.1) per game for the club, while Newcastles record with the 27-year old at the back is exceptional.Ironically, the only game in 11 that Clark has not been on the winning side this season was a 1-1 draw back at Villa Park, with the Magpies losing three of five without him in the XI. Rafa not thinking of promotion Rafael Benitez insists hes not thinking about promotion yet. Meanwhile, alongside the impressive Jonjo Shelvey in the middle of the park, Isaac Hayden has also played an important role in ensuring Newcastles defence has been much improved. The Magpies were exposed to counter-attacks last season, but Hayden has provided the necessary protection. His average of 2.6 tackles per game is a team high, with 1.9 interceptions bettered only by Clark, helping him to a rating of 7.25.Along with Gayle, Matt Ritchie was the other real marquee signing and while the winger took a little time to adjust, he has also proven an astute acquisition. With two goals and five assists to his name in the league - the latter is a joint high in the Championship - he is beginning to have the sort of effect Benitez would have hoped in the final third. Matt Ritchie has made a strong start to life at St James Park Ritchie, after all, is a player that has excelled in a title-winning campaign, ranking among the top ten players in the second tier as Bournemouth were promoted, with a rating of 7.44 courtesy of superb figures of 15 goals and 17 assists. Its clear then, that while Newcastles enviable firepower in the form of Gayle, Mitrovic and Perez is seen as their greatest asset, Benitez has built a team that warrants its billing as outright favourites.Their credentials will be tested against an improving Leeds side on Sunday in a fixture steeped in top-flight tradition. While both will certainly be aiming to be back in the big time before long, its the Magpies who are flying right now. They are justifying the hype to make an immediate return appear a near certainty. Marcus Marshall, who ran for 127 yards, including a 67-yard touchdown run, in last weeks 31-17 win over Virginia, may retain the starting job at the B-back position he has shared with Mills.Mills, a freshman, also served a one-game suspension for a violation of team rules earlier in the season. He leads Georgia Tech with 578 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns despite missing the three games. It gives us some more depth, coach Paul Johnson said Tuesday when asked about Mills return. I think hes a good player.Added Johnson: It never hurts to have one of your better players back playing.Marshall ran for 270 yards the last two games and said after the Virginia game the success made him a more confident runner. It definitely feels good to get some things going, Marshall said. In the game, especially as a running back, once you get some positive plays, it helps you with your confidence and helps you play better. I think it helps me play better.Johnson also expects to have some key players return from injuries.Brad Stewart, tied for second on the team with 115 catches, is expected to play after leaving last weeks game with an ankle injury.ddddddddddddStewart also is the teams punt returner.Freshman left tackle Jahaziel Lee, who missed last weeks game with an undisclosed upper body injury, also is expected to play.Lee and another freshman, left guard Parker Braun, are listed as starters. A third first-year offensive lineman, center Kenny Cooper, started against Virginia Tech.Johnson said Mills, Lee, Braun, Cooper and receiver Jalen Camp have made this a strong class of freshmen on offense.I think that class is going to turn out to be a big class for Georgia Tech, Johnson said.Georgia Tech (7-4) might move up a notch on the Atlantic Coast Conferences pecking order of bowl-eligible teams by beating Georgia. The bigger goal is winning the state rivalry.Beating then-No. 18 Virginia Tech gave the Yellow Jackets a boost. Even so, Saturdays game at Georgia could define the Yellow Jackets season.Johnson said the season could end up being really good or could end up being dead average.Johnson took a win over Georgia in 2008, his first season at Georgia Tech, but then suffered five straight losses in the series before the Yellow Jackets took a 30-24 overtime win in Athens in 2014.Georgia (7-4) has won 13 of the last 15 in the series, including a 13-7 win in Atlanta last year.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25 ' ' '

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Written in Portuguese on one wall above center court at Carioca Arena is the phrase Um mundo novo. Translation: A new world. It didnt seem that way in mens Olympic basketball -- until now.Threatened by Australia in its previous game, the U.S. mens team survived a heart-racing final seconds to defeat disciplined and experienced Serbia 94-91 on Friday night and extend its winning streak in international tournaments to 49 games.No. 50 is no given, and suddenly, a gold medal that seemed a formality just a few days ago is anything but certain. The Americans, boasting a roster stuffed with NBA All-Stars, elite outside shooters but only two former Olympians, look very vulnerable and somewhat lost on the worlds hardwood stage. We do have more talent, said U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski, who has been warning about overconfidence since his teams arrival in Brazil. We have to get our talent playing even much better as a team.Despite a ferocious start, the Americans couldnt put away the underdog Serbs, who ran their cut-and-cut-again offense with precision and had a chance to tie it in the final seconds. But guard Bogdan Bogdanovics 3-pointer from the left wing was a little long and Kevin Durant secured the rebound and the relieved Americans walked off the floor with their streak intact but their standing shaken.Kyrie Irving scored 15 points and Durant and Carmelo Anthony added 12 apiece for the U.S. team, which arrived in South American lauded as the latest version of an American super squad. However, after their 10-point win over the Aussies earlier this week and now a nail-biter against the Serbs, the rest of the field might be starting to believe the U.S. can be taken. We got in our own heads, Durant said. We had a great start, great start. We were up almost 20 points. We should have held the lead and we just got sidetracked by stupid stuff, from the calls to the physicality, the extra plays. We got to stay with it. Thats the way its going to be out here.Nikola Jokic, who plays for the Denver Nuggets, scored 25 and Milos Teodosic and Miroslav Raduljica 18 each for the Serbs, who fell to 1/3 but left the building feeling confident after making the Americans sweat.Paul George said Serbias systematic offense was unlike anything he and his teammates have faced.Once again, we relied on natural talent, George said. This is why theese guys are special in our league.dddddddddddd These international guys really know how to move and really know how to cut. Its more about how theyre running their offense. Its wearing us down. Its like they dont get tired. It was the first Olympic game between the nations, and a rematch of the 2014 Basketball World Cup championship won by the U.S. 129-92. However, this never resembled that track meet as the Serbs slowed the tempo and forced the Americans into turnovers and rushed possessions. The worlds best team certainly didnt look or play like it for long stretches. The U.S., which will wrap up preliminary-round play against France on Sunday, led 94-87 with 2:11 left on a basket by Anthony. But the Serbs got a basket by Jokic and two free throws Teodosic to get within three.Durant, who only attempted four shots, misfired with eight seconds left giving Serbia one last chance. After a timeout, the ball wound up with Bogdanovic, who had a great look from 22 feet but was just off the mark.We are that kind of a team that we never give up and we showed this today, said Teodosic, one of Europes craftiest guards for the past decade. This is third game in a row that we have a very bad beginning, and especially (against) the teams like the United States, its very tough to get back in the game when you are losing by 10 or 15 in the beginning. The 10-point win over Australia -- just the fifth time the U.S. has won by 10 or fewer since 2006 -- raised the possibility that this American team might not be as golden as previous ones.Krzyzewski, though, insists there is more global balance in hoops. We dont give enough credit to the talent level on the other team, he said. Australia is talented. Serbia is talented. They are one of the top teams in the world, but theyve played together for a long time. We played them two years ago and had a great game and everything went well for us. All of those guys are back and Im sure they wanted to make up for that, too.Our guys are playing as a team, and I think we just havent had that experience of playing that long together and hopefully these games will help us and the game against France will also. The Americans had better learn or theyll be going home with a less shiny medal. STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Up until Saquon Barkley ripped off a game-winning, 25-yard touchdown run through the middle of Minnesotas defense in Penn States 29-26 overtime win over the Golden Gophers, Barkley had been bottled up, driven backward for losses and frustrated.Im really proud of Saquon, Penn State coach James Franklin said. Hes not having the big games and statistics that I think people anticipated or expected, you havent seen him once with bad body language, hang his head, been a great team player. Just kept persevering, waiting for opportunities, and when it came, made a big play for us.Barkleys dazzling run came at a critical time for Penn State (3-2, 1-1 Big Ten). The Nittany Lions, already down seven injured starters, risked a 0-2 conference start amidst growing fan frustration that prompted athletic director Sandy Barbour to declare earlier in the week Franklins job is not in jeopardy.Trace McSorleys 80-yard touchdown pass to Irvin Charles was timely, too. It snapped a 0 for 8 string of third-down attempts for Penn States offense and sparked the teams comeback from a 13-3 deficit. McSorley finished with 408 yards of total offense, the third highest single-game total in school history.McSorley completed 19 of 40 passes and ran for a touchdown. Barkley finished with 63 yards on 20 carries.Mitch Leidner completed 24 of 40 passes for 241 yards with a touchdown, and Rodney Smith and Shannon Brooks added 104 and 100 rushing yards, respectively, for Minnesota (3-1, 0-1 Big Ten). Brooks and Drew Wolitarsky scored touchdowns for the Gophers. Its pretty obvious it hurts, Minnesota coach Tracy Claeys said. Well be up in the morning and well be back and ready to go.Emmit Carpenter kicked four field goals for Minnesota, including a go-ahead 37-yarder with 54 seconds to go. But Tyler Davis third field goal, a 40-yarder with two seconds left, forced overtime. Carpenters 46-yarder put Minnesota up after the first half of overtime before Barkley ended it on the next play.I think it was definitely something our players needed, Franklin said. Everyone needed it, theres no doubt about it.LAST LINE OF DEFENSEMarcus Allen looked no worse for wear after making 22 tackles -- eight solo -- while playing most of his snaps as Penn States eighth defender in the box.It was two shy of Penn States single-game record.Hes grown used to helping support whats been a thin corps of linebackers since his freshman season in 2014 and its as thin as its ever been with starters Nyeem Wartman-White, Jason Cabinda and Brandon Bell out. Penn State lost fill-in Brandon Smith in the second half with an apparent head injury.THE TAKEAWAYMINNESOTA: The Gophers are a scrappy bunch and will have a shot to hang with a lot of Big Ten teams with Leidner and their running backs playing well.Leidner bounced back from a shaky start where he was 0 for 4 against the blitz to complete his next five passes for 35 yards and a touchdown against extra-man pressures. He erred in the fourth quarter, However. Leidner steered his team to Penn States 13-yard-line where he sailed a pass into 8-man coverage to be intercepted by Jordan Smith.PENN STATE: After falling into a 13-3 halftime hole and going 0 for 7 on third downs over the first two quarters, Penn State salvaged some momentum with a win. More importantly, Joe Moorhead and the offense got on track with big plays in the third quarter where Penn State racked up 190 yards of offense with 156 of them coming on deep passes against Minnesotas shorthanded secondary.UP NEXTMINNESOTA: Will try to take the Floyd of Rosedale back from the Iowa Hawkeyes at TCF Bank Stadium on Oct. 8.PENN STATE: Hosts Maryland on Oct. 8 in whats become arguably each teams biggest rivalry. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars placed tight end Marcedes Lewis on injured reserve Monday afternoon with a calf injury, possibly ending the time of one of the longest-tenured players in franchise history.Lewis was hurt during the first half of the Jaguars 26-19 loss at Detroit on Sunday. He caught two passes for 16 yards against the Lions before his injury. The tight end finishes his 11th season with the Jaguars with 20 catches for 169 yards and one touchdown.Lewis signed a three-year contract in March worth $12 million with $5 million guaranteed. His $4 million salary was guaranteed in 2016, but only $1 million of his $4 million salary in 2017 is guaranteed. Lewis has not figured prominently in the Jaguars pass attack over the past four seasons, but he has been an effective blocker, and thats a prominent reason for the Jaguars to bring him back next season. However, that also depends on which coaching staff is in place in 2017. Coach Gus Bradley, who has gone 14-44 in three-plus seasons, is expected to be fired after the season.Lewis is the Jaguars all-time leader in receptions (351), receiving yards (4,184) and receiving touchdowns (28) among tight ends. He also ranks fourth in franchise history in games played (154), and only one other player has played more seasons for the Jaguars (Brad Meester, 14).Lewis was the second Jaguars player to be placed on injured reserve Monday. Left guard Patrick Omameh landed there after suffering a foot injury against the Lions. To fill those two roster spots, the Jaguars activated offensive tackle Josh Wells from IR/designated to return and claimed defensive tackle Jordan Hill off waivers from Washington. Jerseys For Sale Outlet . The parade and rally were held to celebrate the Saskatchewan Roughriders 45-23 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Sunday in the CFLs championship game. Wholesale Jerseys For Sale . Following a lopsided 5-2 loss against the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night, Paul MacLean told reporters that "theres a lack of focus, theres a lack of leadership and theres a lack of preparation" with his struggling team. That came on the heels of Bryan Murray taking the unusual step of going into the locker room at the Prudential Center and addressing the players himself. Many of college footballs best teams have already reached the halfway point of the 2016 season, and a clear top four in the College Football Playoff race has emerged.Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Michigan are who we thought they were. What order would you put them in? Well, they may be interchangeable, depending on how you size each of them up at this point.Defending national champion Alabama looks like the best team, but dont tell Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban that. It might get you an ass-chewing normally reserved for offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin. The top-ranked Tide gave up too many points and far too many passing yards (400) in a 49-30 victory at Arkansas, their 18th consecutive win.Theres still plenty of room for improvement, and Alabama is about to find out if its really the best team in the country. The Tide play at No. 9 Tennessee next week, then host No. 8 Texas A&M on Oct. 22 and play at LSU on Nov. 5.Were certainly not where we want to be, not in all facets of the game, Saban said. Sometimes we play great on offense, but weve just got to be more consistent when we play really good teams.No. 3 Clemson might have the best individual win this season -- a 42-36 victory over Louisville at Death Valley last week. But the Tigers havent beaten anybody else of real consequence, and theyll play only more ranked foe during the regular season: at No. 23 Florida State on Oct. 29.Ohio State might have the best overall collection of talent even if much of coach Urban Meyers rebuilt team is extremely young. The No. 2 Buckeyes have won each of their first five games by at least 20 points, including Saturdays 38-17 win over Indiana. Well know more about Ohio State after next weeks trip to No. 11 Wisconsin. We cant say for sure if Ohio State is even the best team in the Big Ten. No. 4 Michigan demolished Rutgers 78-0, holding the Scarlet Knights to two first downs and only five passing yards. Rutgers punted 16 times in the game, and its longest play from scrimmage was 12 yards. It was Michigans largest margin of victory since an 85-0 win over the University of Chicago in 1939. It was Rutgers worst loss since an 82-0 defeat against Princeton in 1888.It just feels like playing a video game, Rutgers safety Anthony Cioffi told reporters. Just got spanked.Michigan doesnt play a ranked opponent in its next five games and will be heavily favored to roll into its Nov. 26 showdown at Ohio State with an 11-0 record. A Big Ten title -- and potentially a spot in the CFP -- might be on the line.Given the competition the top four teams faced in Week 6, there wasnt much that happened that would have changed opinions about them. However, the second tier of playoff contenders beneath them changed dramatically.No. 6 Houston lost 46-40 at Navy, which all but knocked the Cougars out of contention for the playoff.?We didnt play very well in any phase of the game, and we still had a chance to win it there in the fourth quarter, Houston coach Tom Herman said. Youre not going to win very many games against really good teams on the road turning the ball over three times, one for a touchdown, snapping the ball over the punters head and letting them rush for 300 yards. With Houston falling, No. 5 Washington and No. 8 Texas A&M look like the best bets to challenge the top four teams for the playoff spots. The Aggies moved to 6-0 for the first time since 1994 after surviving a 45-38 win over No. 9 Tennessee in two overtimes. Texas A&M blew a 21-point lead in the second half and then won in overtime after squandering two chances to put the Volunteers away in the final minutes.Texas A&Ms defense allowed 684 yards against Tennessee, including 402 passing. Theyll have two weeks to clean things up before traveling to Alabama on Oct. 22.Its great, Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett said. We finally got over the hump, the little 5-0 hill that weve been facing every year.Talk about getting over the hump. Washington ended a 12-game losing streak to bitter rival Oregon by demolishing the Ducks 70-21 at Autzen Stadium. It was the first time Oregon allowed 70 points in a game since losing to Texas 71-7 on Dec. 6, 1941. The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor the next day.Im just glad I dont have to talk about the streak, or have to answer that, Washington coach Chris Petersen said. Thats probably the No. 1 thing Ive been asked since the day I got to Seattle. There are plenty of questions about Oregons future after it dropped its fourth straight game. The Ducks are 11-9 in their last 20 games under coach Mark Helfrich since reaching the CFP National Championship at the end of the 2014 season. Its different than a normal loss, no question, Helfrich said. I apologize for that score. The Ducks arent the only team that has fallen dramatically. Notre Dame is also 2-4 after losing to NC State 10-3 on the road. The Fighting Irish offense managed only 113 yards on 64 plays in the rain and wind from Hurricane Matthew. Quarterback DeShone Kizer was sacked five times and completed only 9 of 26 passes for 54 yards. We dont have any excuses, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said. We were atrocious offensively.Texas coach Charlie Strong is out of excuses as well. After Strong demoted defensive coordinator Vance Bedford and took over the defensive playcalling earlier this week, the Longhorns surrendered 672 yards of offense in a 45-40 loss to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry game in Dallas.Texas lost its third straight game and fell to 2-3 overall. It has allowed 45 points or more in four of its first five games. We lost the game, so there was no improvement at all, Strong said. We gave up 45 points and cant give up those big plays on defense.Playoff teams after Week 61. Alabama: Crimson Tide freshman Jalen Hurts keeps getting better every week. He completed 13 of 17 passes for 253 yards with two touchdowns and one interception and ran for two more scores in a 49-30 win at Arkansas. He has accounted for eight total touchdowns in the last three games.2. Ohio State: The Buckeyes slogged through a 38-17 win over Indiana, which limited the Buckeyes to onlly 93 passing yards.dddddddddddd But Ohio State ran for 290 yards and won their fifth consecutive game by 20 points or more, the longest active streak in FBS. The Buckeyes will have to play better when they travel to No. 11 Wisconsin next week.3. Clemson: The Tigers had a short week after last weeks thrilling win over Louisville, but they responded with a 56-10 rout at Boston College on Friday. Clemson has won 12 consecutive ACC games and eight straight road games, tying the school record set in 1978-79. Theyll get an extra day to rest before hosting NC State next week.4. Michigan: One day after the 100-year anniversary of Georgia Techs 222-0 win over Cumberland, Michigan steamrolled Rutgers 78-0 on Saturday. The Scarlet Knights had two first downs, five passing yards and were outgained 600-39 in total offense. Rutgers has been outscored 136-0 in its last two games.Next four in contention1. Washington: The Huskies took out 12 years of frustration on Oregon, crushing the Ducks 70-21 at Autzen Stadium. It was the Huskies first win in the series since beating Oregon 42-10 in 2003, and theyve now scored at least 35 points in nine consecutive games. The Huskies get a week off before hosting Oregon State on Oct. 22.2. Texas A&M: The Aggies piled up 592 yards against Tennessee and had a 200-yard rusher and 100-yard rusher in the same game for only the second time since 1950. Tailback Trayveon Williams ran for 217 yards with one touchdown, and quarterback Trevor Knight ran for 110 yards with three scores.3. Louisville: The Cardinals had an extra week to stew over their 42-36 loss at Clemson last week. They will host Duke on Friday.4. Tennessee: The Volunteers nearly put together another incredible comeback, rallying from an early 28-7 hole before falling 45-38 in two overtimes at Texas A&M. The Vols were undone by seven turnovers and 12 penalties, and now they have to bounce back to play No. 1 Alabama at home next week.Heisman candidates1. Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson: Watson is starting to look like the player he was a year ago. He passed for 266 yards with four touchdowns at Boston College on Friday night and is now 24-2 as Clemsons starting quarterback.2. J.T. Barrett, QB, Ohio State: Barrett had a so-so day against Indiana. He ran for 137 yards with one touchdown on a career-high 26 carries while completing 9 of 21 passes for 93 yards with one score and an interception. With 86 career touchdowns (rushing and passing), he moved past former Buckeyes quarterback Art Schlichter for second place in OSU history.3. Jabrill Peppers, LB/RB, Michigan: Peppers scored two of Michigans nine rushing touchdowns in a 78-0 rout at Rutgers. Peppers, who has played 12 positions this season, also had a 63-yard run to set up another score and had an electrifying punt return for a touchdown wiped out by a penalty -- and he did it all without playing in the second half. Afterward, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said: In my humble opinion, were looking at a Heisman Trophy winner and candidate.4. Jake Browning, QB, Washington: Browning accounted for eight touchdowns in Washingtons 70-21 rout at Oregon. He completed 22 of 28 passes for 304 yards with six touchdowns and ran for two more scores. In six games, Browning has thrown 23 touchdowns with only two interceptions.Best momentsTweets of the nightBest playsWorst playsQuotes of the night1. It shows the resiliency of our kids. The game needs to be played, and we need to work to find a way to do that. This conference often describes itself as a family; a family has points of tension. I certainly understand the angst and frustration. I have my own level of angst, but we need to come together to play a football game and find the best way to do that. -- SEC commissioner Greg Sankey to CBS, on whether Florida and LSU will reschedule their game from Saturday, which was postponed because of Hurricane Matthew.4. YAS MARINA, Abu Dhabi -- Fernando Alonso says scoring points at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is more important to McLaren than making Q3 on Saturday evening.Alonso and teammate Jenson Button finished just outside of the top ten in FP2s qualifying simulations on a mixed day for the team, with the latter delayed for a long stint in the garage. With Williams and Force India looking competitive in the desert Alonso does not think McLaren is guaranteed to make a step forward in qualifying, but already has one eye on the teams constructors championship ambitions.I dont think we can read too much into what happened today, Alonso said. In FP1 we didnt really go for a time because we were trying many different things that are important for the future but not for this weekend. In FP2 yes, we did the normal program but other teams had issues, like Toro Rosso, that couldnt really do any lap times, so its still difficult to know where we are. Nevertheless, come qualifying I dont think it will be hugely different from what weve seen in the last few races, the top six are on a different level, then there are Williams and Force India that looks like theyll lock Q3 out and then we seem to be behind them, with a number of teams fighting for the best places behind the top ten and, of course, if one of the Williams or the Force India fails, then the faster of our group will make it into Q3.Alonso says McLarens main focus is on keeping Toro Rosso at bay in the fight for sixth in the championship, which they currently lead by 12 points.Hopefully we can get into Q3 but this weekends goal is a different one: to score points, try to finish ahead of the two Toro Rosso or just behind them, so they cannot make up for the 12 points deficit they have for us, while learning as much as possible for 2017. In fact the last three races weve been just working for 2017 on the Friday sessions, and today was no different. Dan Roundfield Jersey Signed . Thousands of fans at Mosaic Stadium will be cozying up to each other in an effort to stay warm in chilly temperatures and block the Prairie wind that locals say can knock your socks off. NBA Jerseys For Sale . Supported by three-run homers from Jayson Werth and Wilson Ramos, the young right-hander went seven strong innings in the Washington Nationals 8-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night. https://www.cheapnbajerseysjustwholesale.com/bobby-brown-jersey-signed/ . A knee to the thigh might have stung him the most, but his sixth straight double-double made up for the brief burst of pain. NBA Jerseys China . Mats Zuccarello and Derek Stepan scored shootout goals, and backup goalie Cam Talbot earned his second win in two nights as the Rangers shook off a late tying tally and beat the Maple Leafs 2-1 Monday night. Vincent Yarbrough Jersey Signed .C. Lions has come to an end. Banks told TSN on Jan 2 that he had no interest in playing out the option year of his contract with the Lions in 2014, and he again made that clear in a conversation with Lions GM Wally Buono last week. COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Myles Garrett isnt about to tip his hand. Not with top-ranked Alabama next on the schedule. The sixth-ranked Aggies star defensive end said he felt much better Tuesday following Texas A&Ms week off after admitting to being only 65-70 percent healthy against Tennessee. Garrett is dealing with an unspecified leg injury. He broke into a huge smile when asked for an update.Well I cant let them know, he said. Im good enough to play well. The Aggies (6-0) will need him and the rest of their star players to be at full strength as they put their undefeated record on the line on Saturday against the Crimson Tide (7-0), the Southeastern Conferences other unbeaten team.Garrett and fellow defensive end Daeshon Hall have formed a dangerous combination this year with nine tackles for losses each, helping the Aggies rank third in the nation with 9.7 a game. While Alabama was dismantling Tennessee 49-10 last week, the Aggies had time to recharge before traveling to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, this week.It was a good situation for us ... I thought our guys were at a point where they needed it, coach Kevin Sumlin said. It came at the right time after getting through the two weeks prior. The Aggies got a 24-13 win at South Carolina on Oct. 1 despite playing without Garrett and three other starters. The next week, Garrett played almost exclusively on third downs when they held off a late charge by Tennessee to get a 45-38 victory in double overtime.Texas A&M also used its break to evaluate what its done so far and how the team can build on that success in the second half of the season. You spend about a day looking back and do a midseason report on where were at, the receivers did it, receiver Christian Kirk said. Just where werre at and what we can work on to go through this last stretch and win every game.dddddddddddd. So it was good to look back and see what we need to improve on.Kirk leads the team with 40 receptions and his 352 yards receiving rank second for the Aggies. Kirk and Josh Reynolds, who is first on the team with 488 yards receiving, have been Trevor Knights favorite targets with senior Ricky Seals-Jones out the last two games with an injury.Knight has been solid in his first season at Texas A&M after joining the team as a graduate transfer from Oklahoma. He has thrown for 1,500 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. Hes also proven to be a threat on the ground, rushing for 502 yards with nine more scores. Its been a nice bounce-back season for Knight, who was benched last year in favor of Baker Mayfield before leaving Oklahoma. He also spent some time last week reflecting on his first six games with the Aggies and came away with an encouraging conclusion.I still dont think weve played our best football on the offensive side of the ball, he said. The defense is also looking for ways to get better after giving up some big leads before coming back to win in overtime in a couple of games this season. Despite those lapses, defensive coordinator John Chavis has been impressed with much of the work his unit has done so far. When youre in situations to finish a game, weve got to be able to do that, he said. We have not done that as well as I expect and our players expect. But our players are giving great ... effort and thats a good starting place.---AP college football website: collegefootball.ap.org ' ' '

LONDON -- Andy Murray had already grabbed the headlines by winning his second Wimbledon title, but Heather Watson was determined to play her part.Walking out onto Centre Court after the Scot beat Milos Raonic, Watson and partner Henri Kontinen won the mixed doubles final, beating Colombias Robert Farah and Anna-Lena Groenefeld 7-6, (5), 6-4.It was Watsons first Grand Slam title, and the perfect way to bounce back from the misery of her first-round exit in the singles, ensuring Britain finished the Wimbledon fortnight with champions in five separate events for the first time.I was following the whole of Andys match, she told a news conference. I thought hed win today. He played brilliant. He did everything right. I was watching in the changing rooms when he won.Its just so nice to see him do well here and win. Then to get the two Brits, or three, four win today, is great. It has been a fantastic championships for Britain, with Gordon Reid winning the first singles wheelchair final here on Sunday, having won the doubles with fellow Briton Alfie Hewett on Saturday.Jordanne Whiley, from Birmingham, also won the ladies wheelchair doubles final on Sunday with Japanese partner Yui Kamiji and it was the relatively recent introduction of wheelchair events which brought about Britains landmark.Ill remember this forever, added Watson. He made our time on court so fun. Off the court as well, like warming up together. It was just fun and easy. Yeah, Im just so freaking happy. Some people say its fun, but dont really have fun. We did. We didnt think about winning. We just wanted to go out there and just enjoy our time and just try and play well. Now were Wimbledon champions.Kontinen joked they would retire from mixed when asked if the partnership would continue. Their feat was made even more impressive given they had never played together before this week.Watson was introduced to Kontinen through the Finns British coach,?Chris Eaton, and they signed up for the larger Wimbledon draw after missing the cut at the smaller French Open draw due to Watsons ranking. They may have been the last match on Centre Court but Watson was ready for the champions dinner. That was my preparation for the match, she said. I was picking out my dress in the changing rooms. Im all sorted. Ill be there. ' ' '
