Matchups are often a driving force behind fantasy owners weekly lineup decisions. When choosing between two (or more) similarly talented players, you know the first question that comes to mind: Which one has the best matchup?Ah, but what, exactly, constitutes a favorable or unfavorable matchup?Thats where this column comes in.The Matchups Map provides a schedule-independent method to determine strength of positional matchups using the most recent, relevant data. Check back for updated numbers each week, including matchup highlights at each position, both favorable and unfavorable, based on those statistics. Tony Parker Jersey . Marincin has played in two NHL games so far this season with two penalty minutes. Thousands of fans at Mosaic Stadium will be cozying up to each other in an effort to stay warm in chilly temperatures and block the Prairie wind that locals say can knock your socks off. http://www.cheapspursjerseyschina.com/ .Y. - Nelson Mandela will be honoured by the New York Yankees with a plaque in Monument Park. Pau Gasol Jersey . -- Washington Redskins tight end Fred Davis was charged Thursday with driving while intoxicated, a day after he was suspended for an NFL substance-abuse policy violation. Danny Green Jersey . Oaklands loss to Seattle clinched the ALs best record for the Red Sox with one day to spare in the regular season. "I think everybody was kind of watching," catcher David Ross said. "Demp (Ryan Dempster) came out before he went to the bullpen and was just yelling that they lost. BOSTON -- A future Hall of Famer who established his credentials in the open ice, there was Jaromir Jagr along the boards, mucking it up for a loose puck. The 41-year-old former Pittsburgh great outdueled Evgeni Malkin for the puck and pushed it ahead to Brad Marchand, who brought it over the blue line and flipped it to Patrice Bergeron for the winning goal. "Everyone is doing everything in order to get the success and to get the wins, and it doesnt matter what it is and who it is," Bergeron said early Thursday after his goal at 15:19 of the second overtime gave Boston a 2-1 victory over the Penguins and a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference finals. "Jags is a perfect example. Hes pretty much a legend; hes a guy thats going to be in the Hall of Fame at some point, and hes doing the little thing right there just to fight for the puck. And you notice that as a teammate, and it goes a long way." After two blowouts in Pittsburgh to start the series, the Bruins returned to Boston to win a tightly contested game, getting a goal on their first shot just 1:42 in and then another on their last more than 93 minutes of playing time later. With a victory in Game 4 at home Friday night, the 2011 Stanley Cup champions would earn a chance to play for a second title in three years. "It was very long, very tiring. But we came out with the win," Marchand said. "Were obviously very happy, but weve still got a lot of work to do. Theyre going to come out harder the next game." Tuukka Rask stopped 53 shots for the Bruins, and David Krejci scored Bostons only goal in regulation. With his assist, Jagr moved past Paul Coffey and into fifth place on the NHLs career list with 197 post-season points. "He seems to be having a lot of fun with our group," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "(Hes) a 41-year-old thats never been known for real physical play, but more for the type of game that those Hall of Famers and superstar players play. And right now hes just doing whatever is asked of him, and thats a credit to Jags." Tomas Vokoun made 38 saves for the Penguins a game after he was yanked from the net after giving up three quick goals in the first period. After Krejci, who leads the playoffs in scoring with nine goals and 12 assists, made it 1-0, Chris Kunitz tied it in the second period. It was 1-1 after two periods, and it stayed that way through two more. But 4:41 before the second overtime would expire, Marchand grabbed the puck along the left-wing boards and centred it, where Bergeron redirected it past Vokoun. That set off a celebration in Boston -- the first for the Bruins at home after they won the first two games of the series in Pittsburgh 3-0 and 6-1. It is the first time all season tthat Pittsburgh has lost three consecutive games.dddddddddddd The good news for the Penguins: The last of three teams to blow a 3-0 lead in an NHL playoff series was Boston, which lost four in a row to Philadelphia in the 2010 Eastern Conference semifinals. "We threw it at them tonight and didnt get the win," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. "But its a race to four and they are not there yet." After two Boston blowouts, the Penguins matched the Bruins and even outshot them 39-25 in regulation -- including a third period in which Pittsburgh held a 14-4 advantage despite two Boston power plays. The Bruins didnt muster a shot in the final 7 1/2 minutes of regulation. But they had the better chances in overtime, including Nathan Hortons breakaway that Vokoun turned aside just 2:21 in, and another shot by Horton that went off the right post with 12:25 on the clock. Pittsburgh forced Rask to make a save with 5 minutes left in the first OT, when Craig Adams tried to poke home a rebound. "I think the whole game we felt really comfortable with our play," said Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, who has yet to record a goal or assist in the series. "I think we felt like it was just a matter of time before we were going to get it. Unfortunately, they ... hung around and got one at the end." The Bruins opened the scoring when Krejci circled around the net and took a slap shot that caromed in off Pittsburgh defenceman Matt Niskanen. But the Penguins tied it in the second -- the first time in the series, other than 0-0, that they have been even -- when Kunitz one-timed a pass from defenceman Paul Martin over Rasks right shoulder. Pittsburgh went 0 for 6 on power plays -- including two in overtime. Boston was 0 for 5. NOTES: Boston is 4-1 in playoff overtime this year. Pittsburgh is 2-2. ... Bruins F Gregory Campbell blocked a shot with his midsection on a power play late in the second period. He remained on the ice for a few seconds before struggling to his feet, then limped around for more than 30 seconds before Boston could clear the zone and he could get off the ice. Fans chanted his name. ESPN.com, citing team sources it didnt identify, said he has a broken leg and will be out the remainder of the playoffs. ... The Bruins honoured Richard "Dic" Donohue as an honorary banner captain before the game. Donohue is a transit police officer who was shot during the Boston Marathon bomber manhunt. ... Penguins F Jarome Iginla, a key trade-deadline acquisition who turned down a deal to the Bruins, was dropped to the third line. ... Krejci has 29 goals and 39 assists for 68 points in 74 career playoff games. ... Pittsburgh had won its last six games in Boston, all in the regular season. LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska led overmatched University of Mary by 10 points less than five minutes into the game Tuesday on its way to a 70-38 win in a game that gave the Huskers bench the opportunity to play more than half the minutes. That was key for a team that has only five experienced players on the roster, all of whom start. It was good for them to get a feel for what the game is like, said Michael Jacobsen, who led the Huskers with 10 points. Weve been practicing for about two months now. Its hard when you go against each other so much. ... In the game its a totally different feel. I think its good for them to get their minutes and just figure out their roles. All five of Nebraskas non-starters played at least 20 minutes and combined for 30 points with each making at least a field goal. That was a marked improvement from Sundays home opener against Sacramento State in which the Nebraska bench made just two field goals and contributed only nine points. It was really, really important, said Isaiah Roby, who came off the bench to score seven points in 24 minutes. Obviously, we have to execute stuff against other people and also just getting tired. All of us were dripping sweat. ... He (Nebraska coach Tim Miles) kind of challenged us to step our game up tonight. We still have a lot to work on obviously ... but I think we stepped up a little bit more.Nebraska (2-0) was never challenged by the NCAA Division II school from North Dakota that is Miles alma mater. Nebraska went up by 12-2 on Jack McVeighs 3-pointer at the 15:18 mark and stretched the lead to 30-8 on another of McVeighs 3s with 5:52 left in the first half.Mary (0-3) cut the Nebraska lead to 15 on Damonta Henrys 3-pointer that opened the second half. But the Huskers quickly pushed the lead over 20, going up 41-19 on McVeighs 3-pointer with 17:37 left. Nebraskas largest lead was 32.The Marauders struggled against the Nebraska defense, hitting just 7 of 28 shots in the first half and finished 29 percent from the field. The bigger, stronger Huskers also dominated on the boards, outrebounding Mary 45-21Nebraska hit 50 percent of its shots, but committed 17 turnoversMary played in front of the largest crowd it will likely see this season (8,459). Attendance at Marauder games, home and on the road, averages about 1,000. That should work to Marys advantage, said coach Joe Kittell.Theres not going to be any atmosphere thats going to be more hostile than this, Kittell said. Our guys understand that, played in it, and it shouldnt bother us anymore. Really excited about this group, I know were zero and three right now but there are a lot of good kids out there. They want to win, they want to get better.BIG PICTURENebraska: Miles said the relatively low score and margin of victory can be attributed to Marys strategy of running down the shot clock on offense and impatience on the part of the Huskers once they finally got the ball.University of Mary: The Marauders took full advantage of a game against a Division I foe, chartering a flight to bring fans from Bismarck to Lincoln. Those who paid $289 for the trip got lunch with Nebraska football coach Mike Riley, a tour of the athletic facilities and a dinner with Nebraska baseball coach and North Dakota native Darin Erstad.UP NEXTNebraska will host Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. Saturday, a starting time set to avoid conflict with the Nebraska-Maryland football game at 11 a.m.Mary will return to Bismarck where it will host Yellowstone Christian Monday. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- When Curtis Samuel was taking a subway -- after taking the bus -- to football practice in high school, he never doubted he was talented enough to play at a top program such has Ohio State. His only concern was whether the Buckeyes would find him in Brooklyn. With the help of a family that kept his priorities straight and a well-connected high school coach, Samuel went from hearing the rumble of the elevated subway train next to Sid Luckman Field to the roar of 100,000 Ohio State fans at the Horseshoe.Samuel has emerged as No. 6 Ohio States most dangerous offensive weapon in his junior season. Playing the hybrid receiver-running back position that Percy Harvin once filled for Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer on a national championship team at Florida, Samuel is having a Harvin-type season. He is averaging 137 yards from scrimmage per game, 9.5 per touch, with eight touchdowns. That Samuel has performed so well in this role should be no surprise. He has been playing it since high school. Erasmus Hall coach Danny Landburg was first told about Samuel by Curtis stepfather, Roy Armstead, when Curtis was 7 years old and playing Pop Warner.Samuels talent was easy to spot. He was hurdling fences for the heck of it and outrunning all the other kids.I never knew I was fast. But everybody said I was fast. That was really exciting to hear that, Samuel said. For Nicole Samuel, Curtis mom, football was at first just a way to get her energetic son out of their apartment.Curtis walked at 7 months. From 7 months on he was moving around. He was flipping. He was talking a lot. He was just busy. All the time, Nicole Samuel said.Curtis older cousin, Rashaun Samuel, played football and Rashauns mother suggested to Nicole that it would be a good outlet for Curtis. He was unbelievable, Nicole said. And from then he just took off.Landburg could see a future Harvin or Reggie Bush.At first he said. `Im a running back, Landburg said. I said, `No, youre more than just a running back. His body type is not the type you want to pound 20 times a game. The 5-foot-11, 197-pound Curtis Samuel broke his ankle during practice when he was a sophomore in high school and watched from the bench at Yankee Stadium as Erasmus Hall lost the city championship. He vowed to make up for it and led Erasmus to the title as a junior.Sid Luckman Field, named after the Brooklyn native and Erasmus Hall alum who went on to become a Hall of Fame quarterback for the Chicago Bears in the 1940s, is a very different setting from those in which many four- and five-star recruits play in under Friday night lightss.ddddddddddddFirst off, most of Erasmus Halls games are played Saturday afternoon. And the best way to get to the game is mass transit. A quarterback with a decent arm could stand on the midfield logo at Luckman Field and hit the F train with a football as it rattles by every five minutes or so.Samuel said ignoring the trains was easy during games. It was harder during a four-hour practice. Its like right next to you. Its real loud. The commute from Erasmus Hall in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn to Sid Luckman is about 25 minutes, Samuel said, if the buses and subway are running on time. After practice, it was another 40 minutes to get home.Im thinking in my head, a kid from New York City is not going to get a look from a big-time school like that, Samuel said.Generally, recruiters dont find many blue chips in the Big Apple. In Samuels recruiting class he was one of two New York City players, both from Brooklyn, to make Rivals.coms list of the top 250 players in the country. The 2017 class has one New York City player in the top 250.Landburg made sure Samuel was not overlooked. He knew Meyers offense was the perfect fit for Samuels skills, and Samuel was good enough to get Meyer to come to Brooklyn.I actually love Brooklyn, Meyer said. Love the delis there. He liked it so much he went back for freshman safety Jahsen Wint, another Erasmus Hall alum.Meyer said he never worried about Samuel making the transition to Columbus. There was no doubt once you got to know ... who was surrounding him, Meyer said.Nicole Samuel said her son is fortunate to have numerous positive role models from his father, Curtis Council, to cousin Rashaun to Armstead. Though its the women in Curtis Samuels life that have been inspirational.A lot of kids dont make it out of New York City or Brooklyn just playing sports, Samuel said. Theres a bunch of other distractions they get into. My mother kept me level-headed and on the right path. I love her to death for that.Samuel calls his 28-year-old sister, Denisha, his rock and heart. Denisha calls Curtis her little big brother.I went (to Columbus) for the game (last) Saturday, and I took the bus back by myself. Hes like, `When you get back make sure you call my phone no matter what time it is, Denisha said.Samuel said he misses Brooklyn and his family -- even all those bus and subway rides. What does he like best about Columbus? I really love the fans, he said.It certainly beats listening to the F train go by. LOS ANGELES -- DeAndre Jordan looked around the press room with that big, megawatt smile and playfully avoided a question about his injured thumb as though it never happened.Jordan sprained his right thumb Sunday but played with it taped on Monday night. That meant the Big Three for the Los Angeles Clippers was still very much intact and effective.Chris Paul scored 24 points and Blake Griffin had 21 points and 11 rebounds in a 116-98 victory over the winless Phoenix Suns.Jordan added 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Clippers relied on their top stars in improving to 3-0 this season.I feel great, Jordan said. It was a scary play for a second (on Sunday). I really want to play basketball. I dont want to miss any games. My teammates were definitely on me about getting it taken care of, but Im fine.As are the Clippers. Phoenix, however, has plenty of work to do.Brandon Knight scored 18 points for the Suns (0-4), who gave Los Angeles a little scare on Halloween when they cut the lead to 56-55 in the third quarter. The Clippers pulled away after that, and Phoenix was marred by fouls and turnovers. We kept playing hard, but the momentum kind of switched over, forward T.J. Warren said. After the third, we couldnt get stops and we were fouling a lot and putting them on the free throw line.Griffin scored 15 points in the first half, when Los Angeles built a 13-point lead. He made 12 of 14 free throws. The Clippers defense was stout and forced the Suns into 14 first-half turnovers and 20 overall. Los Angeles closed with an 18-3 run to lead 48-36 at halftime. The two things I liked were that we stayed engaged defensively, and thats what weve done all year and they just kept trusting, Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. Like (they know) its going to fall and eventually it started falling and once the basket opened up, with the way we were defending, we were in great shape.Jordan entertained with an assortment of dunks and layups despite playing with his right thumb wrapped in tape. Early in the first quarter, he grimaced and grabbed his thumb when he missed an alley-oop. But he remained in the game and never showed any signs of a problem afterward.Four of the five Clippers starters had scored in double figures by the end of the third quarter. Los Angeles offense has been slow to catch up with its defense early this season, but the Suns were no match on the defensive end as the Clippers got into a rhythm.Suns center Tyson Chandler fouled out with 7:51 left, a product of trying to contain Jordan and the rest of the Clippers frontcourt. The fouls and turnovers caught up with the Suns late in the game.Thats a lack of focus, coach Earl Watson said. They all came in the second quarter. And we cant let foul calls disrupt our rhythm mentally. We have to weather that storm and be mentally tough and play through that.TIP-INSSuns: G Devin Booker, third on the team in scoring, was a game-time decision and sat out with a sprained toe. Before the game, Watson said: If he doesnt play, hes really in pain.Clippers: Jordan injured his thumb in a win over Utah. He left the game but returned to play, and X-rays were negative. Rivers said he would monitor the situation throughout the game.BACK-TO-BACKSBoth the Suns and Clippers were playing back-to-back games for the first time this season. The Suns hosted the Warriors on Sunday and lost 106-100. The Clippers played an afternoon game Sunday followed by a night game. Rivers said he doesnt mind that kind of schedule.PIERCE WINS HALLOWEENPaul Pierce is still out with an ankle injury, but his Halloween costume was a winner. Pierce dressed up as rock star Rick James but changed just before tip-off. He posed for plenty of pictures before the game, including one with Clippers owner Steve Ballmer.UP NEXTSuns: Return home Wednesday to host Portland. Phoenix won the season series 2-1 last year.Clippers: Host the Thunder on Wednesday. Oklahoma City star Russell Westbrook is averaging 38.7 points per game. He scored 51 against the Suns.Hes an unbelievable player, just the impact he has on the game from so many different areas, Griffin said. The pressure he puts on defenses alone is crazy. You kind of know, thats just his personality, to just go and destroy and try to take over. Cheap Cavaliers Jerseys For Sale . Larry Nance Jr. Jersey . - After leading the Saints to a fourth playoff appearance in five seasons, Drew Brees expressed confidence in the direction of his team and, perhaps more importantly, showed a willingness to listen to contract proposals if the team needs his help getting under the NFLs salary cap. TORONTO -- The buzz surrounding Team North America continues. The concept of having a roster of talented players 23-and-under has even caught the attention of the veteran players in the best-on-best tournament. Talking with a few of the highest-profile players in the world, including Sidney Crosby, Steven Stamkos and Patrice Bergeron, all wish they had the opportunity to play for a similar-style team when they broke into the NHL as teenagers and early 20-somethings.Oh, that would have been amazing, said Bergeron. It would have been such a great experience and I would have soaked everything in. Its just a great opportunity for them to be there and obviously play against the best players, and theyre part of that, so it means theyre amazing players themselves. Were seeing something special.Stamkos, 26, has already played eight seasons in the NHL for the Tampa Bay Lightning. He said the concept of having the best players of a generation on one roster is intriguing and wishes there had been something like that for him to be part of earlier in his career. That wouldve been pretty cool, Stamkos said. You look at the skill set thats on that team, and even the last couple of years the talent in this league has grown so much that makes that team possible. Four, five, six, seven or eight years ago, I dont know if you even have enough guys that age, just the way the NHL was with a very limited number of younger guys that were playing in the league. With the talent thats come up in the last five years, it allowed them to put that team together, and not just put it together, but be competitive as weve seen in the pretournament games. Its definitely an intriguing storyline.Everyones talking about the North American team and the speed and the skill that they bring. Its an intriguing storyline thats crept into this tournament, with no one really knowing what to expect from them. Theyre not in our group, so we wont see them until the semifinals hopefully, but thats the team that has caught the pretournament by storm. It shoulld be interesting to see how this whole tournament plays out.ddddddddddddThe landscape has changed drastically since Bergeron, 31, made his rookie debut as an 18-year-old. His rookie season with the Boston Bruins was 2003-04.Its funny, I looked at the age [difference] of every guy in the lineup for the Bruins, and a lot of guys were over 30 back then -- a lot of guys, he said. Its pretty rare now, so its changed a lot. I dont think we would have had too many [23-and-under] players. There were only eight 18-year-olds in the NHL that season: Dan Fritsche, Brent Burns, Nathan Horton, Bergeron, Milan Michalek, Dustin Brown, Eric Staal and Marc-Andre Fleury.Compared to the other seven teams in the World Cup, Crosby, 29, doesnt know what to expect from Team North America. The under-23 team is the one that everyones been talking about, and its a different dynamic there, Crosby said. Ive rarely seen a team like that before. I would say their team [is most interesting], just because of the unknown, as far as not seeing an under-23 team in a competition before, and you look at their games early on and its exactly what everyone expected. Theyre fast. Theyre confident. That whole dynamic is the one Im most interested in.Crosby admitted that he cant imagine being an 18-year-old and playing in the World Cup of Hockey without playing in an NHL game.I look at Auston Matthews, and he hasnt played a game in the NHL yet and hes stepping into the World Cup. The fact that he played [in the Swiss] pro league last year Im sure helps a little bit, but thats a big jump, and those guys look pretty comfortable for being [young] and jumping into this, Crosby said. I havent really thought about it a whole lot, but I cant imagine making that step. Once youre in it, they have a great ability to adapt, and thats gotten them to this point so early. Thats their biggest strength and theyre showing that right now. Kangaroos captain Cameron Smith may be one of the most successful State of Origin players of all time, but he insists donning the green and gold must go back to being the pinnacle of the game in Australia .Smith, who is embarking on his fourth tour of the UK in the upcoming Four Nations, said hes as enthusiastic as he was on his first in 2009, but concerned the Origin juggernaut now dwarfs the importance of the international game.We want the Kangaroos to go back to being the No.1 rugby league team in our country, Smith told AAP at the tournament launch at Liverpools Anfield. At the moment its not. State of Origin is bigger than the international team which it shouldnt be.Its something Mal (Meninga) has spoken about a lot and he has really good ideas around our international program and hopefully over the next few years theyll come to fruition.Smith concedes it will be impossible to reduce the importance of Origin given that it dominates talk and debate from the start of the season in March until the conclusion of game three in July. However, he believes that changing the mindsets of young players is the key to making the public fall back in love with the international game.I enjoy playing against England in England, watching those games as a kid is what made me want to play rugby league, he said. But most young players today aspire to play for NSW or Queensland and not so much the Kangaroos.I do think once the attitudes of players towards international footy starts to change you will see the public come back on board.Meninga, who is revered in the north of England due to his exploits in six Ashes series against Great Britain and a highly successful season with St Helens in 1984, believes its important to keep the international game alive.Youre never going to be able to go back to the three-month tours we embarked on where you played every team and three Tests, Meninga told AAP.But theres no reason why we cant play midweek games against representative sides from Yorkshire and Lancashire and then have a three-match series.Teams coming to Australia to play could do the same. Its something that could be in the offing and hopefully it can happen.Australia open their tournament on Friday (Saturday 6am AEDT) in Hull against Scotland with the hosts then taking on David Kidwells Kiwis in Huddersfield (Sunday, 1230am AEDT). A group of Baylor?alumni and major donors -- including Drayton McLane, for whom the schools football stadium is named -- is scheduled to launch a nonprofit organization that will demand an overhaul of the universitys board of regents as well as full details of the schools sexual assault investigation.Bears for Leadership Reform is going to be demanding transparency and accountability, spokeswoman Julie Hillrichs said. They believe the only way we can do this is to have true reform of the board. They want a seat at the table when the board selects its next president, and then they want a best-in-class Title IX program on that campus, she said, referring to the federal gender-equity law that requires schools investigate reports of sexual violence. The group formed in part because of recent public comments made by select members of the universitys board of regents, who were reported to have said, among other things, that former football coach Art Briles did not properly report an alleged gang rape and that 17 women have reported sexual or physical assaults involving 19 players, including four gang rapes, since 2011.Although several of the organizers, including McLane, a billionaire businessman and former owner of the Houston Astros, have been among the most vocal critics of Briles firing, Hillrichs said this group is not advocating bringing him back.I cannot stress enough its not about football, and were not even going to talk about Art Briles, Hillrichs said. This is about women who have been sexually assaulted on this campus. We need to have total accountability and transparency. She said the group will use its funds to build a broad coalition of students, faculty, domestic violence organizations and community leaders to put an enormous amount of pressure on that university to be transparent and accountable. As of Monday morning, almost 2,000 people had liked the organizations Facebook page.Last week, Baylor launched a new website designed to provide more information about how the university has addressed sexual assaults. It included a message from Interim President David Garland that read, in part: I have directed the university to be more transparent wherever possible about the sexual assault crisis that has severely impacted our campus, our alumni and the entire Baylor family.Members of the board of regents and administrators have declined multiple interview requests from ESPN over the past several weeks, and have referred questions to their public relations firm.A spokesman for Baylor issued this response to the Bears for Leadership Reform demands on Sunday:In their October meeting the Baylor Board of Regents committed to pursuing a policy of transparency and openness to provide the entire Baylor family with the information they need to heal and move forward. The facts released over the past two weeks have been evidence of that commitment. This policy will continue and additional information will be placed on the website www.baylor.edu/thefacts.He also wrote that the presidential search committee is made up of faculty, staff, students, alumni and parents, and that an online form is available for anyone who wants to provide input and propose potential candidates.McLane is listed as one of the members of the search committee.Hillrichs said Bears for Leadership Reform is demanding the release of documentation related to the findings by the law firm Pepper Hamilton, which in a summary released in May stated that the school was in violation of Title IX and the football program had no culture of accountability for misconduct. The new group also wants to see the board be more open about its meeting agendas and meeting minutes, Hillrichs said. She said Bears for Leadership Reform has about 20 directors and at least 100 other advisers; about $350,000 has already been donated.OOne of the founders, Gale Galloway, made a public offer last month of $10,000 to anyone who could find the true reason for the firings of Briles and two other athletic department employees.ddddddddddddGalloway -- a former Bears football player, former chairman of the board of regents, retired CEO of several companies, and a large donor to the university -- said the regents made Briles the poster child for the schools much larger sexual assault scandal in order to protect the regents own self interests. In an interview with Outside the Lines last week, former Title IX Director Patty Crawford said that she was aware of about 400 cases of sexual violence during her two years on campus, although regents have said in other media interviews the number is closer to 125 incidents from 2011 to 2015. Both the regents and Crawford have said that about 10 percent of those involved athletes; athletes make up 4 percent of the male population at Baylor. The total, in terms of athletes, they were all found responsible. I think every athlete was found responsible, Crawford said. And even though the numbers were small in comparison, she said the culture of gang rape among the athletes stood out and was worth examining further. But she said she also saw cultural issues that led to sexual assaults among members of fraternities and sororities, other student clubs, and even among faculty sexually harassing students and female co-workers.Its important to show that there is more complexity to this, and I didnt want the university making it this depiction of everything is perfect except for these three people, she said, noting the removal of Briles, former President Kenneth Starr and athletic director Ian McCaw.Crawford, who was named the schools first full-time Title IX coordinator in 2014, said she was not allowed to sit in on the presentation that the Pepper Hamilton law firm gave the board of regents outlining the results of its investigation into the schools Title IX compliance.A Baylor spokesman wrote in an email Sunday that, the Board of Regents found failures across the University as reflected in both the Findings of Facts and the Pepper Hamilton recommendations, which were released in May. No Regent or administrator has ever suggested that this was solely a football problem -- and the Universitys response has been much broader than a narrow targeting of football and athletics.Galloway, and others involved in the newly formed nonprofit, have said the failures belong squarely with the board of regents, saying it was their responsibly to make sure the school was in compliance with Title IX and to give Starr -- whom the regents removed as president and who later resigned from Baylor altogether -- the administrative support he needed to implement required policies.A Baylor spokesman wrote that the board does not oversee day-to-day operations, and that it exists instead to determine whether the university has the right resources to accomplish its goals and mission.Sources have told Outside the Lines that some regents are not in favor of the message that the board chairman and others have been sharing publicly, but a confidentiality agreement -- and fear of being found personally liable in connection with any of the four pending Title IX lawsuits -- prevents them from speaking out.It is vital to remember that the Board was -- and is -- overwhelmingly supportive of the decisions taken in May, the implementation of the Pepper Hamilton recommendations and the need for openness and transparency going forward, the Baylor spokesman wrote, noting that Ron Murff, as chairman, is the official spokesman and that other regents may participate in interviews at his discretion. "Its just great to come out here and finish off like this after such an amazing year," said Black. "Being on the Olympic team and having that experience has brought me so much more confidence and given me more of a leadership role." In the mens all around Smith took the title with 81.600 points, edging runner-up Robert Watson of Richmond, B.C. with a score of 81.450. Rene Cournoyer of Repentigny, Que., placed third with 79.900 points. "I enjoy every moment of competition," said Smith. "Ive been working really hard and I just wanted to come in on day one and hit my routines and make some finals." Smith and Black will both be going for more medals in the event finals on Saturday. In the womens junior all around, Shallon Olsen of Vancouver won her second straight Canadian title, placing first on floor and vault and 8th on both uneven bars and beam for a score of 55.475 points. Deion Sanders Jersey . Speaking Thursday on TSN 1050 Thursday, the Leafs GM also touched on the questions surrounding the teams leadership and the struggles of his big-name free-agent signing. “Its not from lack of effort from the coaching staff. Harbhajan Singh, Indias most successful offspinner at the moment, has opposed the kind of surfaces the team has played on at home over the last four years. Hes stated as much in several interviews. He used the hash tag tailor-made conditions for spinners while referring to the Indore surface. He went on to say his and Anil Kumbles wickets tally would have been something else if they had bowled more on such pitches. Virat Kohli, to whom the mention of the word pitch is a red rag, was told of Harbhajans comments after India had completed the whitewash of New Zealand inside four days in Indore.Kohli was then asked if he attributed these wins to pitches or something else. Who made that statement? Kohli shot back. Harbhajan Singh, he was told. Oh? Okay, he stopped. It must be mentioned that while the conversation around pitches has been subdued this season because they havent been as dramatic as they were against South Africa last season. Kolkata, in fact, was a seaming pitch, which brought the New Zealand fast bowlers into the game. However, Harbhajans is the first instance of someone criticising the pitches from inside the system. He is an active cricketer who was a part of the India squad in the Asia Cup played in Bangladesh earlier this year. Kohli refrained from directly reacting to Harbhajans statement although he did sound a little taken aback.Obviously, I mean, Kohli paused. See even if it is a turning pitch you have to bowl well. There is no… spin doesnt happen only off the pitch. Spin is about how many revs you impart off the shoulder first. And then the ball will do something offf the pitch.dddddddddddd. I quite clearly remember after we lost to New Zealand in the World T20, suddenly their spinners were quality and we were found out. I dont see anyone talking about that now. The same spinners have played. Why have they not been able to pick wickets? It is as simple as that. Our fast bowlers picked wickets everywhere. We never complained about anything. So… see you can give a guy a cement track to bat on. He [still] needs to have the mindset to score runs. It is as simple as that.Earlier when asked about complete team performances on three different tracks and how much confidence that gives India for the England series, Kohli once spoke about the pitches. Well, we knew before the series that people are going to start talking about pitches, Kohli said. But we made it a point that we... we knew that there are monsoons everywhere, wickets are not going to be as dry. Especially in Kolkata, we knew that it wouldnt be dry; it was a newly laid wicket. We didnt say anything once. We believe in our abilities, we should be good enough to do it on any surface and against any team. That is a step in the right direction as far as our team is concerned. We believe in our skill much more, and not focus on creating atmosphere or conditions that might suit us partially. We just wanted to express ourselves the way we can on a cricket field. We finished two games in four days on perfectly fine Test cricket pitches. That gives us a lot of confidence. A 12-year-old girl accidentally ran a half-marathon after entering a three-mile family fun run. LeeAdianez Rodriguez, from New York, had entered the 5km race in the Rochester Regional Health Flower City Challenge.LeeAdianez thought she had arrived late for the fun run, so when the half-marathon competitors - in a concurrent race - set off, she joined them without realising she had set up a slightly longer morning for herself than she thought...in fact 10 miles longer. She admitted she realised her error about halfway around the 13.1 mile course - but gamely decided to finish it anyway. She completed the half-marathon in 2:43:31, finishing in 2:43:31, in 1885th place out of 2,111 finishers. Her mother Espada lost track of her daughter when she went to park her car, and she told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle that she frantically reported LeeAdianez missing to the police. She gave me a really big scare. She just wanted to finish the race, Espada said. Two hours after I started looking for her, I see that one of the officers found her. And I see she has a medal. It was such a scary moment, but rewarding for her in the end. I dont even know how she did it. Im so proud of her. Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer will make three more starts before the end of the 2016 regular season, manager Brad Ausmus confirmed following the clubs 8-1 blowout loss to the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night at Comerica Park. That means that the 23-year-old phenom, a front-runner for American League Rookie of the Year, will not have any of his remaining starts skipped over as the club continues to monitor his workload and innings. He will, however, receive extra rest.Fulmer (10-6, 2.76 ERA) said the plan had not been communicated to him but that he was on board with whatever the organization deemed best with the Tigers fighting for a wild-card playoff spot.Ill pitch whenever they tell me to, Fulmer told ESPN.com. Im not going to argue with [Ausmus].Fulmer admitted that pitching on extra rest, which he has done on multiple occasions coming out of the All-Star break, was a better scenario than having any of his starts skipped entirely. Its a lot more preferable being pushed back a few days versus being skipped in the rotation, Fulmer said, though he said nothing was etched in stone yet. It all depends on who Im pitching and how Im feeling. Right now Im feeling great and hopefully that continues on Friday and I get us a [win].Fulmer has pitched 143.2 innings so far in the majors -- on top of the 15.1 innings pitched in Triple-A prior to his recall. COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Myles Garrett isnt about to tip his hand. Not with top-ranked Alabama next on the schedule. The sixth-ranked Aggies star defensive end said he felt much better Tuesday following Texas A&Ms week off after admitting to being only 65-70 percent healthy against Tennessee. Garrett is dealing with an unspecified leg injury. He broke into a huge smile when asked for an update.Well I cant let them know, he said. Im good enough to play well. The Aggies (6-0) will need him and the rest of their star players to be at full strength as they put their undefeated record on the line on Saturday against the Crimson Tide (7-0), the Southeastern Conferences other unbeaten team.Garrett and fellow defensive end Daeshon Hall have formed a dangerous combination this year with nine tackles for losses each, helping the Aggies rank third in the nation with 9.7 a game. While Alabama was dismantling Tennessee 49-10 last week, the Aggies had time to recharge before traveling to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, this week.It was a good situation for us ... I thought our guys were at a point where they needed it, coach Kevin Sumlin said. It came at the right time after getting through the two weeks prior. The Aggies got a 24-13 win at South Carolina on Oct. 1 despite playing without Garrett and three other starters. The next week, Garrett played almost exclusively on third downs when they held off a late charge by Tennessee to get a 45-38 victory in double overtime.Texas A&M also used its break to evaluate what its done so far and how the team can build on that success in the second half of the season. You spend about a day looking back and do a midseason report on where were at, the receivers did it, receiver Christian Kirk said. Just where were at and what we can work on to go through this last stretch and win every game. So it was good to look back and see what we need to improve on.Kirk leads the team with 40 receptions and his 352 yards receiving rank second for the Aggies. Kirk and Josh Reynolds, who is first on the team with 488 yards receiving, have been Trevor Knights favorite targets with senior Ricky Seals-Jones out the last two games with an injury.Knight has been solid in his first season at Texas A&M after joining the team as a graduate transfer from Oklahoma. He has thrown for 1,500 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. Hes also proven to be a threat on the ground, rushing for 502 yards with nine more scores. Its been a nice bounce-back season for Knight, who was benched last year in favor of Baker Mayfield before leaving Oklahoma. He also spent some time last week reflecting on his first six games with the Aggies and came away with an encouraging conclusion.I still dont think weve played our best football on the offensive side of the ball, he said. The defense is also looking for ways to get better after giving up some big leads before coming back to win in overtime in a couple of games this season. Despite those lapses, defensive coordinator John Chavis has been impressed with much of the work his unit has done so far. When youre in situations to finish a game, weve got to be able to do that, he said. We have not done that as well as I expect and our players expect. But our players are giving great ... effort and thats a good starting place.---AP college football website: collegefootball.ap.org Air Max 97 Black Cheap . Forward Eduardo gave Ajaccio the lead in the sixth minute after being set up by right winger Benjamin Andre, and the Corsican side looked comfortable in the first half, with the lively Johan Cavalli causing problems with his probing runs from midfield. Zetterberg has 11 goals and 19 assists for a team-high 30 points, and Datsyuk has a team-high 12 goals and 11 assists. Air Max 97 Plus Blue .C. -- When North Carolina freshman Ryan Switzer reported to training camp in August he was a little miffed to learn he was third on the depth chart at punt returner. MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy is never going to second-guess Kansas State counterpart Bill Snyder. There will be plenty of others who do.The No. 18 Cowboys took advantage when Snyder elected to punt near midfield on fourth-and-inches in the fourth quarter, and rallied for a 43-37 victory Saturday that was only secured when the Wildcats pass to the end zone was picked off on the final play.I know in the past hes played the percentages, Gundy said about the decision to punt, which gave his team the ball back trailing 37-28 with about 8 minutes left. Hes somewhat a genius when it comes to that. This time, it helped the Cowboys (7-2, 5-1, No. 22 AP) keep their Big 12 title hopes alive.Mason Rudolph connected with James Washington on an 82-yard touchdown passes two plays later, and after a three-and-out, Chris Carson capped a go-ahead drive with a 17-yard TD run to give Oklahoma State the lead.I joked with the guys that I told Carson to slide if he gets in the open, Gundy said.Instead, Kansas State (5-4, 3-3) got the ball back with 1:39 left. After quickly marching downfield, and converting fourth-and-5 to remain alive, an offensive pass interference penalty in the end zone with 10 seconds left pushed them back to the Oklahoma State 13 with 4 seconds to go.Ertzs wobbler to the end zone was intercepted by Jordan Sterns to end the game.We were inconsistent in the second half of that ball game, Snyder said. Some good things, some not-so-good things, but a lot of that was Oklahoma State.Rudolph finished with 457 yards and five touchdowns through the air, though he also threw two picks -- one returned by Duke Shelley for a score. Washington had seven catches for 117 yards and two touchdowns.Ertz ran for 153 yards and three scores for Kansas State, but he was just 12 of 18 for 87 yards through the air, as the Wildcats finished with 345 yards rushing in a woefully imbalanced attack. The ground game allowed Kansas State to control the game early, marching on back-to-back long touchdown drives to take a 13-0 lead. But the Cowboys answered with back-to-back touchdown passes from Rudolph, and that began an entertaining back-and-forth matchup of vastly differing styles. The Wildcats stuck to the ground, bulldozingg their way through a defense unable to stop them.ddddddddddddThe Cowboys kept shredding through the air a defense that couldnt keep pace. You cant let them have that deep ball, Kansas States Elijah Lee said. Thats what they live for.Oklahoma State led 23-21 at halftime before an atrocious third quarter that included a muffed punt return, a blocked punt and two crucial penalties allowed the Wildcats to seize a 30-21 advantage. The teams kept trading blows all the way to the final second. If we lose that game, this press conference is about being poor in special teams, you turn the ball over and cant stop the run then its hard to win a football game, Gundy said. I told our team earlier that its a great accomplishment to win up here.STILL STREAKINGThe Cowboys won their fifth straight Big 12 game by snapping a two-game skid in Manhattan. It was the first time in six meetings that the home team did not with the matchup.ALTERNATE UNISKansas State broke from tradition and wore silver camouflage helmets in a nod to the military on Fort Riley Day. Snyder has generally avoided the trend toward several uniform combinations.THE TAKEAWAYOklahoma State: Despite throwing two picks, the first ending a streak of 163 attempts without one, Rudolph was calm when it mattered the most. He engineered two scoring drives down the stretch when Oklahoma States Big 12 title hopes hung in the balance.Kansas State: It was another oh-so-close loss for the Wildcats, who dropped a similar nail-biter to West Virginia. Their failure to convert on third-and-inches in the fourth quarter, and then punting rather than going for it on fourth down, may have cost them the game.QUOTEABLE: We need to improve our defense against the pass, said Snyder, whose team has given up at least 300 yards through the air four of the past five games. My 9-year-old granddaughter knows that. And I dont have a 9-year-old granddaughter.UP NEXTOklahoma State plays its home finale against Texas Tech on Saturday.Kansas State has a week off before visiting Baylor.---More AP college football at www.collegefootball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25 Cheap NFL Jerseys China Wholesale Jerseys Cheap Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys NFL Jerseys From China Wholesale Jerseys Free Shipping Wholesale Jerseys China ' ' '

DENVER -- A quick start and timely baskets down the stretch ended Detroits early season woes on the road.Tobias Harris scored 19 points, Marcus Morris had 17 and the Pistons beat the Denver Nuggets 106-95 on Saturday night for their first win of the season away from home.Without a doubt, everyone in this locker room was really focused out there to get this `W today and we came out and accomplished it, Harris said. Its not the road trip we wanted, but we learned a lot from this road trip.Detroit, unbeaten in four home games, had lost five straight on the road before fashioning the wire-to-wire win in Denver, the final stop on a four-game road trip.Thats why this was huge because we have to know how to win on the road, guard Ish Smith said. Its a new year, and were 5-5 and feel good about it.Andre Drummond and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 14 points apiece for the Pistons, who also snapped a seven-game losing streak in Denver a week after beating the Nuggets in their first meeting in Detroit.Emmanuel Mudiay scored 19 points for Denver, which was done in by another slow start after being outscored 36-21 in the first quarter. The Pistons never trailed in the contest and also benefited from 16 Denver turnovers leading to 17 points. It is the same old story, Nuggets coach Michael Malone said. We outscored them 74-70 in quarters two, three and four. But when you spot them a 15-point lead in the first quarter. And we threw the ball over. Our turnovers are an epidemic.Danilo Gallinari added 18 points for the Nuggets, who remained winless in three games at home this season.Gallinaris mid-range jumper pulled Denver to 97-93 with 3:02 left but Drummond came right back to sink a hook shot for Detroit. Harris jumper with 1:07 left stretched Detroits lead to eight points.Denver fell behind by as many as 17 points early on but used an 18-6 run late in the second quarter to get back in the game, pulling to 57-49 at halftime.TIP-INSPistons: Drummond added 12 rebounds to complete his seventh double-double of the season. ... Caldwell-Pope has scored in double figures in six of his last seven games. ... Detroit also never trailed in its first win this season against Denver.Nuggets: F Darrell Arthur (left knee soreness) and F Will Barton (left ankle sprain) remain sidelined. Arthur and Barton have each missed the past six games. ... F Wilson Chandler was back in action after missing the previous two games with a sore left hamstring. ... Gallinari has scored 10 or more points in each of the first nine games.SECOND THOUGHTSMalone conceded an experimental switch to power forward from his natural position of center has not been working out well for second-year pro Nikola Jokic. The Nuggets coach said he plans to give Jokic more time at the 5 spot going forward. He had an unbelievable rookie year playing the 5, Malone said. I told him I feel like Ive done him a disservice almost, exploring playing big. There are some good things with that, but I took a kid who had a great year last year, changed his position on him and it hasnt been easy for him. So my hope is to try to get him more minutes at 5. He will play some 4 at times but we need to get Nikola back.UP NEXTPistons: Return home from a four-game road trip to play Oklahoma City on Monday night.Nuggets: Travel to Portland to play the Trail Blazers on Sunday night. Toronto Raptors Jerseys Online . Andrew Luck lost his favourite target and the Indianapolis locker room lost one of its most revered leaders when Reggie Wayne was diagnosed Monday with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that will cost him the rest of the season. This should be celebrated because it will not always be this way. With the amount of money given to players by their clubs these days, it is a wonder that so many of those teams allow the sport to continue to take away many of their assets so they can play for a different team in the middle of their season. RIO DE JANEIRO -- The Latest on the Rio de Janeiro Summer Games opening ceremony (all times local):11:54 p.m.Brazilian marathoner Vanderlei De Lima has lit the cauldron at the Rio Games.De Lima was one of the suspected candidates after Pele revealed earlier Friday that health problems would keep him from attending the opening ceremony at Maracana Stadium. So 12 years later than he likely would have, De Lima got his golden moment.De Lima was leading the 2004 race at the Athens Games when a protester attacked and disrupted his run. De Lima wound up finishing third, but has been lauded for how hes handled the incident.Gustavo Kuerten carried the torch into the stadium, then handed it to Brazilian basketball legend Hortencia Marcari. She brought it to the stage, then De Lima brought it up the stairs and held it aloft for 60,000 to cheer. With that, the cauldron -- one unlike any other in Olympic history -- was lighted.Brazilian officials wanted this cauldron smaller than most, a reminder to reduce global warming caused by fossil fuels and greenhouse gases. The flame is housed in a giant sculpture, with spirals to represent the sun.---11:40 p.m.The first recipient of the Olympic Laurel asked the athletes of the Rio Games to follow him and help support the youth of the world.Kip Keino, a two-time Olympic champion who went on to open an orphanage in his native Kenya, gave a heartfelt speech at the opening ceremony of the Rio Games on Friday night. He thanked his supporters, then told the athletes inside Maracana Stadium that he had a humble request.Keino said, Join me and support all the youth of this world to get the basics of humanity: food, shelter and education. Education not only empowers our youth to be better citizens and leaders of the future, but it will also help them make a positive change and a mighty difference.Change for good was a major theme of the opening. With green Olympic rings and white kites, organizers of the Rio Games tried to stress two very important messages at the opening ceremony: Take better care of the planet, and each other.Once the Brazilian delegation entered Maracana Stadium to end the parade of nations at the opening, rings carrying seeds and soil were moved into the Olympic five-ring shape -- and displayed in green in a reference to transplanting depleted forests, not the traditional colors of the games. Not long afterward, the dove of peace was flown, only in this case instead of a bird it was 200 white kites. The kites were taken to Kenya and given to children who had never played with ones before. They wrote messages of peace on them, and then the kites were taken back to Rio to be flown by children in Brazil.---11:35 p.m.Brazilian sailing Olympian Robert Scheidt has taken the athletes oath, on behalf of all competitors at the Rio Games. The oath reads: In the name of all the competitors I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, committing ourselves to a sport without doping and without drugs, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams. Also, Martinho Nobre took a similar oath on behalf of all judges who will oversee competition in Rio over the next two-plus weeks, and Adriana Santos recited an oath for all the coaches involved in these games. The oath has been taken by an athlete before every Olympics since 1920. Past oath-takers include the American grandfather-grandson duo of speedskater Jack Shea (1932, in his native Lake Placid) and skeleton competitor Jimmy Shea (2002, before the Salt Lake Games). The Sheas are part of the first family with three generations of Olympians, and both Jack Shea and Jimmy Shea won gold medals after taking the oath.---11:30 p.m.Brazils Interim President has been booed as he spoke to help open the Rio Games.Michel Temer spoke for only a few seconds, and as he sat back down he was roundly booed by many of the 60,000 or so fans inside Maracana Stadium for the opening ceremony on Friday night.A short blast of fireworks followed Temers remarks, in part to drown out the booing.Temer took over following the suspension in May of President Dilma Rousseff on impeachment charges. Rousseff was not at the opening ceremony.---11:20 p.m.In the U.S., NBC is facing social media criticism for its decision to delay the broadcast of the Olympic opening ceremony so it can be shown in prime time in all time zones.Frequent commercial breaks including eight within the first 65 minutes of the ceremony also proved frustrating for time-shifting viewers accustomed to fast-forwarding through ads.NBC began its telecasting of the festivities an hour after they begin in Rio on Friday night. On the U.S. West Coast, the telecast of the opening ceremony wasnt set to start for another hour.NBC also didnt start streaming the event through its app or Olympics website until the television coverage began, and streamers had to authenticate their account with a cable or satellite service. The network usually plays a cat-and-mouse game to prevent other websites from streaming the event. It remains to be seen how successful it will be.---11:15 p.m.The President of the International Olympic Committee says these Rio Games will promote peace.Thomas Bach spoke not long after the parade of athletes into Maracana Stadium was completed on Friday night. Bach says all Brazilians can be very proud tonight, then went on to talk about the importance of these Olympics.Bach said, We are living in a world of crises, mistrust and uncertainty. Here is our Olympic answer: The 10,000 best athletes in the world, competing with each other, at the same time living peacefully together in one Olympic Village, sharing their meals and their emotions.Bach added that in this Olympic world, we are all equal -- words that were met with applause. He went on to ask the athletes to respect yourself, respect each other, respect the Olympic Values which make the Olympic Games unique for you and for the entire world.Bach concluded his remarks by presenting the Olympic Laurel to Kipchoge Keino, a two-time gold medalist from Kenya who went on to open an orphanage in his homeland.Bachs speech was preceded by one from Rio Organizing Committee President Carlos Nuzman, who said a new world is born today.---10:51 p.m.They saved the best ovation for last. With fans chanting in unison, Brazil has entered the opening ceremony for the Rio Games and was welcomed with long and loud cheers from the 60,000 or so inside Maracana Stadium. The host nation always enters last, and the Brazilians were immediately preceded by another crowd favorite -- the 10-person Refugee Team, which is competing under the Olympic flag.Modern pentathlete Yane Marques carried the Brazilian flag in to lead her countrys designation.---10:45 p.m.Years from now, organizers of the Rio Games hope theres 11,000 new trees in Brazil -- one for each athlete at the Rio Games. Each Olympian who entered the opening ceremony at Maracana Stadium on Friday night was given a seed and a cartridge of soil, which was to be placed in mirror towers all over the stage floor. Those cartridges will be taken to Deodoro and form what will be called the Athletes Forest.Theres 207 species of trees being planted, one for each delegation at the games. Its all part of a massive sustainability and environmental awareness effort at these Olympics.----10:35 p.m.For many nations, the Olympics are a regular occurrence. For Kosovo and South Sudan, this is a first. They marched into the opening ceremony of an Olympics for the first time Friday night, making their debut at the Rio Games. Kosovo was officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 2014; South Sudan was recognized last year.Kosovos flag was carried by judo athlete Majlinda Kelmendi, who competed for Albania at the London Games four years ago. Kelmendi won a world title while competing in Rio in 2013.After entering the stadium, Kelmendi said it is a historical moment for my country and for me. It is very motivating for me.Kosovo sent eight athletes to Rio. South Sudan, which had marathoner Guor Marial carry its flag, has a three-athlete team. Marial competed in London as an independent athlete.---10:30 p.m.A smaller Russian team has arrived at the opening ceremony.A state-sponsored doping program led to the exclusion of many would-be Olympians in Rio and threatens the medals that Russia won in recent past Olympics. The World Anti-Doping Agency recommended Russias exclusion from the Olympics, but the International Olympic Committee didnt go along. The IOC asked individual sports federations to review doping histories of Russian athletes, and less than 24 hours before the opening ceremony, the IOC was finalizing the list of eligible Russian athletes.---10:20 p.m.Tony Parker is making no effort to hide how much hes enjoying this opening ceremony. The San Antonio Spurs star -- and French point guard at the Rio Games -- says the Olympics are one of the greatest and biggest sports events in the world. On the floor of Maracana Stadium after the French walked into the opening Friday night, Parker said it was just an unbelievable feeling to be able to be here to represent my country.Parker is one of 46 active NBA players in these games.---10:15 p.m.Which countries are getting the warmest reception during the parade of nations?Latin countries, Italy, France, Japan and the United States got the biggest cheer from the crowd at Maracana Stadium at the opening ceremony of the Rio Games.Colombia is a neighboring country with plenty of supporters in Rio. Italy and Japan are two of the biggest communities that immigrated to Brazil. The American team also has a lot of support. Spain, Mexico and South Africa also got a big cheer from the crowd.Argentina, Brazils eternal rivals in soccer, got a mixed reaction.Of course, the loudest cheer will be saved for last -- when Brazil enters.---10:05 p.m.Jamaica is at the opening ceremony. Usain Bolt is not.The two-time defending champion in the Olympic 100- and 200-meter races, as expected, skipped the opening ceremony for the Rio Games on Friday night. Bolt announced his decision earlier in the day.Friday was the fourth anniversary of Bolt winning the gold in the 100 at the London Games.---9:51 p.m.Archer Zahra Nemati had a big smile and a wave for the crowd as she carried Irans flag into the opening ceremony in her wheelchair.Nemati is competing at the Olympics and Paralympics, where shes a defending gold medalist. She was a black belt in taekwondo before a car accident paralyzed her as a teenager. She picked up archery a few years later because she wanted to compete in a sport.Earlier Friday, she competed in archerys qualifying round at the Sambadrome. She shot 72 arrows and accumulated a score of 609 -- good enough for 49th position.Shes competing to make my family and the people around me happy, and let them know Im OK and Im strong.---9:45 p.m.Andy Murray has Olympic gold, two Wimbledon titles, a U.S. Open crown and is currently the No. 2 player in the world. But even for someone with his resume, Friday night stood out.Murray was the flagbearer for Britain at the opening ceremony for the Rio Games, and says it will go down as the proudest moment of my professional career.Murray will play both singles and doubles in Rio, the latter alongside his brother Jamie.Murray says hes been blown away by the flagbearer title, noting that it doesnt get much bigger than a chance to lead out your country. The British team got a big ovation from the crowd in Rio, as did the French team when it entered moments earlier. French President Francois Hollande was in the crowd, cheering for his nations athletes as they walked past.---9:35 p.m.After 18 gold medals and 22 medals overall in his storied Olympic career, Michael Phelps has finally entered an opening ceremony. The flagbearer for the U.S. has led the contingent of red, white and blue-clad American athletes into Maracana Stadium, after being picked for that distinction earlier this week.More than 500 Americans are on the Olympic team, though as was the case with Phelps in past years, not all of them marched in the opening. Phelps competition schedule kept him from attending the first four openings of his Olympic career, and many athletes from around the world -- if theyre competing on Saturday -- tend to pass on the ceremony. The U.S. womens soccer team wasnt at the stadium because of their schedule and how far they are from the opening, but planned on having their own private ceremony of sorts. Players were set to wear their ceremony uniforms and essentially pretend marching, as if they were in Rio.Athletes spend hours on their feet at the opening and often get to their beds well past midnight, not exactly the best situation for athletes looking to perform their best a day later.Phelps said in the days leading up to the opening that he wants to take it all in, represent America in the best possible way and make my family proud. This time around, its about so much more than medals.---9:20 p.m.Given the water woes leading up to the Rio Games, sailing has had more than its share of problems going into these Olympics. But at the opening ceremony, some of the sports best will be on display -- no woes to be found.Theres 13 flagbearers at the opening ceremony from sailing, which is more than the sport had at the Beijing Games and the London Games combined. They are Sofia Bekatorou of Greece, Nicole Van der Velden of Aruba, Pavlos Kontides of Cyprus, Karl Martin Rammo of Estonia, Tuuli Petaja-Siren of Finland, Peter Burling and Blair Tuke of New Zealand, Vasilij Zbogar of Slovenia, Gintare Scheidt of Lithuania (the wife of popular Brazilian sailing star Robert Scheidt), Joao Rodrigues of Portugal, Rodney Govinden of Seychelles, Dolores Moreira of Uruguay and Cy Thompson of the U.S. Virgin Islands.---9:10 p.m.President Barack Obama says the Olympic Games build a sense of common humanity as countries pursue the ideal of sending their best to compete in a spirit of goodwill.Obama spoke to NBC ahead of the opening of the Rio Games. The president says people know that the Olympic Games are not going to end war, eliminate poverty or stop the tragedies that occur daily around the world. Yet, he says, the Games contribute to a sense of empathy.Obama says coverage of the events also tells stories of individual athletes working hard to achieve a high level of competition. He says telling such stories transports you into another place.---9 p.m.Germany was one of the first teams to enter the opening ceremony, much to the delight of one fan in particular.International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach -- a 1976 gold medalist in fencing for his native country -- stood and waved with both hands as the Germans walked into Maracana Stadium.Smiling broadly throughout, Bach remained standing until the entire contingent was inside the stadium. These are the first summer games Bach has presided over. He became IOC president in 2013.---8:50 p.m.The parade of nations has started, and as always Greece is leading off. Two-time Olympic sailing medalist Sofia Bekatorou is the flagbearer.Though most nations at an Olympic Games enter the opening ceremony in alphabetical order, there are exceptions. Greece goes first given its role as the birthplace of the Olympics. The host nation enters last, meaning Brazil will be waiting until the end of the parade to make its grand entrance. (In 2004, when Athens hosted the Olympics, the Greek athlete delegation entered last as well).Another quirk for the opening is that the local language is used to alphabetize, meaning Portuguese this year.So the United States of America -- 198th in English alphabetical order out of the 207 participating teams -- will enter 69th, since in Brazil the countrys name translates to Estados Unidos da America. If form from past games holds true, the parade of athletes should take slightly less than two hours.---8:45 p.m.Brazils long, proud musical history is on full display in this high-energy start to the opening ceremony for the Rio Games. From funk to samba to hip-hop, its all being featured as the opening builds toward the entrance of athletes from around the world. Among the featured artists: Ludmilla, Cristian Do Passinho, Lelezinha, Elza Soares, Marcelo D2 and Karol Conka.Video screens around Maracana Stadium are showing some of the lyrics, mostly in Portuguese, as fireworks go off and dancers clad in huge multi-colored wigs and red, yellow, white and orange outfits perform on the stadium floor.---8:35 p.m.Its been a source of long debate in Brazil about who invented the airplane. Most people say the Wright Brothers. In Brazil, they say Alberto Santos Dumont is the inventor -- and that the Wright Brothers actually invented a jumping machine. To pay homage to Dumont, a small plane appeared in the stadium during the portion of the opening ceremony that showed where Brazil began modernizing. The planes appearance only lasted for a few seconds. The next big part of the show got much bigger cheers -- that being Brazilian model Gisele Bundchen from one end of the stadium floor to another in a shimmering gown.As she walked, The Girl From Ipanema blared through the stadium.---8:25 p.m.President Barack Obama says hes ready to cheer on the U.S. Olympians. In a tweet on Friday night, not long after the opening ceremony started in Rio de Janeiro, the nations first fan wrote Our teams unity and diversity makes us so proud -- and reminds the world why America sets the gold standard.---8:20 p.m.All Olympic opening ceremonies tend to pay homage to the host countrys past, and this one is no different. An image of a Pau-Brasil tree -- the wood that gave its name to the country -- digitally appeared on the floor of Maracana Stadium a few minutes into the start of Friday nights opening ceremony for the Rio Games, as if in the Amazon rainforest. Its the countrys national tree, has been on the list of threatened Brazilian plants and its illegal to cut the few trees that remain.Brazil was thick forest when first inhabited more than 500 years ago, and organizers thought that was the logical place to begin the ceremony.Even some of the most subtle things at the opening have a meaning. The curved shape of the stages used in the ceremony are a nod to Oscar Niemeyer, a key figure in Brazilian architecture.---8:10 p.m.The unofficial anthem of Rio de Janeiro is being featured prominently as the opening ceremony gets underway. The song Aquele Abraco -- which translates to That Hug -- by Grammy winner Gilberto Gil played a role in both the closing ceremony of the London Games four years ago and in Brazils bid for these Rio Games. The song was the soundtrack for the opening video, which started precisely at 8 p.m. in Rio.Gil is credited for helping revolutionize Brazilian music in the 1960s. He wrote Aquele Abraco not as a celebration piece, but as his farewell to Rio. He was jailed in 1968 after angering Brazils military dictatorship and lived in exile in London from 1969 through 1972.The first line of the song : Rio de Janeiro is still beautiful. From there, fireworks blasted from the top of the stadium and the Brazilian national anthem quickly followed. Among the most generally cited lyrics to the song are these: Giant by thine own nature, thou art beautiful, thou art strong. The official Brazilian flag has been hoisted by Rio de Janeiros Environmental Police Command. Protecting and sustaining Brazils environment will be a theme of the opening, and will continue throughout the games.---8 p.m.The opening ceremony did not mean a warm reception for everyone. As Brazilian government officials took their seats, a smattering of boos could be heard in Maracana Stadium. It could be expected, given the political times in Brazil right now. Many residents are upset over how much money was spent on these games, saying it could have been better-directed toward Brazilian needs. Interim President Michel Temer took over following the suspension in May of President Dilma Rousseff on impeachment charges. And the booing didnt last long -- when the show started, the crowd roared in delight.---7:35 p.m.Long lines are still outside Maracana Stadium, waiting to get through the copious team of security and into their seats for the opening ceremony. But inside, the pre-show is underway.Brazilian entertainer and television personality Regina Case is on the stadium floor, teaching fans in the stadium certain roles they will play in the show. Case says that 60,000 fans will be in the stadium, but she reminded the crowd that 3 billion will be watching on television worldwide.Case told the crowd, Here in Brazil, we like to party ... and we believe the people are made to shine. And she reminded the crowd that they are the stars of this show as the lights of the stadium dimmed and the only illumination was coming from the lights of thousands of fans cell phones.Outside, military vehicles, police and 35 checkpoints filled the streets near the stadium. Their presence created long lines and traffic jams.Neither Brazils Defense Ministry nor Rio de Janeiro police will say how many security personnel are on the ground to secure the Olympic opening ceremony. As many as 85,000 will be on site until the end of the games. Thats twice as many as London four years ago. More would have been on the ground if Rio wasnt forced to cut about $550 million from the Olympic budget amid a recession.---6:55 p.m.Most of the nations marching in Fridays opening ceremony for the Rio Games will not have a head of state in Maracana Stadium to help cheer their arrival.Officials had predicted as many as 100 heads of state would attend the first Olympics in South America. But that fell way flat, with about 25 expected to attend Friday night -- in large part because of very uncertain political times in Brazil. For now, the country essentially has two presidents. Interim President Michel Temer took over following the suspension in May of President Dilma Rousseff on impeachment charges.Among those who are coming: U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.---6:30 p.m.Fans are filing into Maracana Stadium, as the opening ceremony for the Rio Games gets set to begin later Friday night.Once considered the biggest stadium in the world with a capacity of nearly 200,000, Maracana Stadium now holds around 80,000 people.Opened in 1950 for the World Cup, in which Uruguay beat the hosts 2-1 in the final, the stadium has been renovated many times over the years. Pele scored the 1,000th goal of his career there in 1969, and the field has been the site for countless major soccer matches at many levels.Frank Sinatra, Tina Turner and Paul McCartney all played there in the 1980s to massive crowds of about 180,000. KISS, Sting, Madonna, Pearl Jam, the Rolling Stones and Prince are among the many other performers to grace Maracanas stage. The stadium was the site of the 2014 World Cup final. Germany topped Argentina 1-0 for the title. The closing ceremony is at the stadium as well, as are the opening and closing events of the Paralympics. Midfielder Michael Barlow says hes received strong interest from AFL clubs in signing him following his delisting by Fremantle. The 28-year-olds release by the Dockers on Monday came as no shock, with Barlow admitting the writing was on the wall following an up-and-down season that included his relegation to the WAFL in May and a shoulder injury.I knew my time was up and in reality I feel its really the best thing for me and my football, he told 6PR on Tuesday.Barlow played 126 games in seven seasons with Fremantle. He was recruited as a mature-age rookie after starring in the VFL, and a strong debut year in 2010 saw him finish 21st in the Browlow Medal race.He also played in Fremantles 2013 grand final loss to Hawthorn.Barlow admitted not being offered a new deal was hard to take considering his eighth-place in the best-and-fairest race despite an interrupted year. But his management had fielded constructive approaches in the off-season.Theres some good, strong interest which is really pleasing, he said.Ive never felt as confident in my future. PETERSBURG, Fla. SAN DIEGO -- Theyre still the San Diego Chargers, at least for four more home games.Beyond that, the Chargers are uncertain about their future home. At least its not as hyper-hot as last year, when ownership was working with the rival Oakland Raiders on a plan for a stadium in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson. That plan was rejected by NFL owners, who nonetheless gave the Chargers the option to join the Rams in a stadium in Inglewood scheduled to open in 2019.The Chargers then spent most of this year campaigning for a measure that would raise $1.15 billion for a $1.8 billion stadium and convention center annex in downtown San Diego that would replace aging Qualcomm Stadium. All the while, they reminded everyone that they hold the option to move to L.A.Voters called their bluff, voting it down 57-43. It needed 66.7 percent to pass.Chargers chairman Dean Spanos said hell consider his options but wont announce a decision until after the season.Interestingly enough, their first game since Election Day is at home against the Miami Dolphins. The Chargers beat the Dolphins on Dec. 20 on an emotional day in which fans thought they were seeing their beloved Bolts in San Diego for the final time.Quarterback Philip Rivers said hes optimistic enough groundwork has been laid for the team and city to eventually agree to a stadium deal. The love from team to the city and the city to the team has been awesome over the last 55 years and the last 13 Ive been here, Rivers said. I cant see us not here. We have four of our last seven at home and a chance to bounce back and get back in the thick of it, and hopefully we can have some exciting home-field advantage type of atmosphere games down the stretch. Here are some things to look for when the Chargers (4-5) host the Dolphins (4-4):MOO: Being from Wisconsin, Chargers second-year running back Melvin Gordon is OK with coach Mike McCoy referring to him as a bell cow after he went off for a career-high 196 yards on 32 carries and his NFL-leading 11th touchdown in a home victory against Tennessee. He also caught four passes for 65 yards.I mean, its cool, Gordon said. Its all right. I like it, I guess. You hear it a lot at Wisconsin, going there.Gordon is running hard and quickly making people forget his miserable rookie season. Hes run for 768 yards and nine touchdowns, with two receiving TDs.Gordon became the bell cow after Danny Woodhead was lost to a knee injury in the second game.Mores been put on his shoulders. Hes played more snaps and had a lot more carries, Rivers said. You dont want to run himm down, but at the same time the way hes going, you want to give it to him as much as he can.dddddddddddd I dont think its a deal where hes going to get it handed to him 30 times, but were going to need him to keep running the way hes running, because when were able to be that balanced and have those type of drives, it makes us that much better.ANOTHER RUNNER: Miamis Jay Ajayi has rushed for 100-plus yards in three consecutive games, including two straight 200-yard games The last Dolphins running back who had three or more consecutive games with 100-plus yards was Reggie Bush, who had four straight in 2011.Ajayis 529 yards in those three games are third most in team history behind Ricky Williams, who rushed for 587 and 545 yards in two three-game stretches in 2002.OPENING HOLES: Dolphins center Mike Pouncey reached the second level to block a linebacker and seal off a lane for a 20-yard touchdown run by Ajayi. Thats just one small example of the job the offensive line has done to pave the way for the Dolphins recent turnaround.Youve got four guys who can play left tackle, and youve got probably the best center in football, in my eyes, Branden Albert said. Our talent and our experience is helping us out.Albert is the starting left tackle, but left guard Laremy Tunsil, right guard Jermon Bushrod and right tackle JaWuan James all have experience at left tackle.DEEP IN RETURNERS: Darren Rizzi is in his eighth year as the Dolphins special teams coordinator, and hes never enjoyed so much depth among his returners.Rookie Kenyan Drake ran back a kickoff 96 yards for the winning touchdown last Sunday against the Jets. Jakeem Grant scored on a 74-yard punt return in Week 5. Jarvis Landry is averaging 11.1 yards on punt returns. Its a good problem to have, Rizzi said. For a special teams coach to have options back there where youre not just a one-trick pony, it really helps you. This is the first time in eight years weve had this many guys Id feel comfortable putting back there.GATES WATCH: San Diego star Antonio Gates is three touchdown catches shy of matching Tony Gonzalezs NFL record for a tight end (111). Gates has caught 81 touchdown passes from Rivers, an NFL record for a quarterback-tight end combo.---AP Sports Writer Steven Wine in Miami contributed.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow Bernie Wilson on Twitter at http://twitter.com/berniewilson Cheap NFL Jerseys China Wholesale Jerseys Cheap Jerseys From China Wholesale NFL Jerseys NFL Jerseys From China Wholesale Jerseys Free Shipping Wholesale Jerseys China ' ' '
