SAN DIEGO - The new Jack Daniels Old No. 7 deck atop the reconfigured right field wall at Petco Park provides an inviting target. "Its nice," said Alonso, who hit a go-ahead, two-run homer off Wade Miley in the fifth inning to help the Padres to a 7-6 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night, San Diegos seventh win in nine games. It was Arizonas fourth straight loss. Alsonos homer was one of 14 hits for the Padres, the second time theyve had that many in three home games. Rookie Jedd Gyorko had his first three-hit game, including two doubles. "Ive sensed us starting to swing the bats better the last couple weeks," manager Bud Black said. "Weve broken out a couple different times on a couple different games and it showed tonight again with double-digit hits, some good at-bats, some good walks, some hard contact along the way, a big home run, a couple big swings. Ive sensed that." With the Padres trailing 3-2, Alonso drove a 2-2 pitch from Miley (2-1) into the Jack Daniels deck in right-centre, his fourth. It probably would have been a home run even in Petco Parks old configuration. The fences were moved in 11 feet from the home run porch in the right-field corner to the gap in an attempt to make the downtown ballpark play fairer. Jesus Guzman was aboard on a grounder. Miley was "locating pretty well early in the game," Alonso said. "I got a good fastball elevated middle in. He got me to foul some pitches inside. I wasnt catching up to it, but then I made a little adjustment." Miley said he left a pitch up. "I was trying to get it away and I overthrew it and it stayed middle and he did a good job of hitting it," Miley said. "I was battling a bit. You dont always feel your best every time. But I had some opportunities to get out of it." The homer made a winner of Jason Marquis (3-2). Marquis allowed three runs and four hits in six innings, struck out five and walked five. "Jason did his job," Black said. "He hung in there, battled and made some pitches. Actually, his last inning was his best. Hes a veteran pitcher with moxie who knows how to work his way through a game." Huston Street came on with runners on first and second and no outs in the ninth and retired two batters before allowing Gerardo Parras three-run homer to straightaway centre, his second. Street then got Martin Prado to fly out to centre for his seventh save in as many chances. Miguel Montero homered to straightaway centre field off Marquis leading off the second, his second. San Diego took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning on Gyorkos leadoff double and, with two outs, a single by Chris Denorfia and a triple by Everth Cabrera. The Diamondbacks regained the lead in the fourth on an RBI double by Eric Chavez and a run-scoring groundout by Cliff Pennington. The Padres added on in the seventh and eighth. Guzman doubled to right-centre and scored on Kyle Blanks single in the seventh. In the eighth, Cabreras sacrifice bunt brought in a run and Chase Headley hit an RBI double. Miley, who finished second to Bryce Harper in NL Rookie of the Year balloting last year, allowed four runs and nine hits in five innings, struck out four and walked three. NOTES: Padres LF Carlos Quentin was in the original lineup but was scratched with a balky right knee. He was replaced by Jesus Guzman. ... The series continues Saturday night when Arizonas Patrick Corbin (3-0, 1.91 ERA) opposes Clayton Richard (0-3, 7.94) in a showdown of lefties. Richard is 6-0 in eight career starts against Arizona, including three wins in four starts last year. ... Before the game, Headley ran into club executive chairman Ron Fowler and explained why he doesnt want to negotiate a contract extension during the season. Headley said its been a distraction since Fowler said on Wednesday that the club was prepared to make an offer that would make Headley the highest-paid player in club history. Guenther Steiner says the starts were aligned for Haas after both Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez made it into Q3 during qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix. The American outfit made it through to the final part of qualifying with both cars for the first time, having only made two previous Q3 appearances so far in its debut season at Melbourne and Monza. Grosjean will line up eighth for Sundays race, while Gutierrez rounded out the top 10. Steiner admitted the result was a pleasant surprise. Our dreams came true, the Haas team principal said. It was a good session, we are very happy with it obviously, I couldnt say any different. FP3 we knew that if we could get the lap together we would be pretty good, but we didnt think we would get two cars into Q3, that was a too ambitious thought you know. But it all happened. We used the new front wing that we brought to Singapore, we used it the first time here what I call properly, with testing, because we had all these issues and if you start the weekend on FP1 and they have mechanical issues, you dont have time to evaluate the data.It was the first time we could use it and understand it and I think that is one of the main things. Im sure our car for this type of track, is also better suited than other tracks, on slower ones. Everything came together, the sstars were aligned.ddddddddddddAfter recording points finishes in three of the first four races of 2016, Haas has only managed points on one occasion since, at the Austrian Grand Prix in July. The team has struggled in recent races, most notably in Singapore -- where Romain Grosjean was particularly critical over team radio -- and with a double retirement in Malaysia.Steiner says Haas performance in Suzuka can act as encouragement after a difficult run, and hopes the team can capitalise on the opportunity to take a big points haul away from Japan. You are always chasing yourself, if you have testing sessions you test it out then but its also a thing of growing a team. If you had one problem like we had, or a few problems like in Singapore and Malaysia and in FP1 and FP2, you have no time to do this you are just happy to have a decent understanding of the tyres and of your base setup. Its a learning curve but I think we have a better understanding now. Do we have full understanding? Maybe not but you always learn. I hope we can take the opportunity, its there. Ill tell you tomorrow night at this time if we took it or not. We are in a good position so lets see what comes tomorrow. As far as learning curves go, Daryl Gibson has already travelled both a slippery slide and rapid ascent in his first season as a head coach. The step up to the top job at NSW Waratahs was never going to be easy given the way Michael Cheika had first transformed the franchise from Super Rugby laughing stock to hardened rugby outfit and then delivered a maiden Super Rugby title while instilling a style of play that was not just the talk of Australian rugby but also the nations ultra-competitive sporting market, too.Gibson may as well have been following Sinatra on stage.Adding to that was a swathe of new playing personnel, changes to the backroom staff, injuries to star Wallabies Bernard Foley and Kurtley Beale - and then some choice comments landed him in Eddie Jones crossfires prior to Englands arrival Down Under.Yeah, good question, Ive made plenty of mistakes this year and, I guess, from those things, thats good experience in the fact that Im learning from that, Gibson told ESPN earlier this week when asked about the step up to the top job.But Ive really enjoyed the role of the head coach. Its very different to an assistant. You probably do less coaching but a lot more managing and you can probably have a greater influence on the whole squad.I think one of the real positives is that weve managed a lot of change this year with Cheik leaving, we had to bring a number of support staff in and we lost 15 players to retirement or overseas and there was a lot of experience in that 15.So to manage and to make sure we stay true to the culture that we have set up here, its been a really big learning curve. And I think next year well see a similar sort of turnover and then go through a period of really nice stability in years to come.Gibson had access to his entire squad for the first time in a month earlier this week when the Waratahs Wallabies returned to Moore Park to begin preparations for the final three weeks of Super Rugbys regular season.Beaten 3-0 by Jones England, it hasnt taken long for the Wallabies to crash back to earth following their thrilling run to last years Rugby World Cup final.Luckily for those Waratahs involved the recent series whitewash, a Super Rugby season that still has a heartbeat will be a welcome distraction while Gibson has expressed surprise at their condition given the physical nature of the three Tests against England.Theyve come back very well, all with a real keen attitude to get playing again, he told ESPN.I guess coming off the disappointment of the Test series, they really want to get back and play. I expected them to be a bit more beat-up than what they were, but Im really pleasantly surprised that theyre keen to get into it and on that, just about all of them will play, or start, which is really positive. The Waratahs first assignment is also clearly the easiest of their closing three rounds given it comes against Japans Sunwolves.Being played in Tokyo, it is also just the Waratahs second overseas fixture - New Zealand excluded - after they had just one match in South Africa against the Stormers. And it should also afford them the opportunity to fine-tune a game plan that finally clicked in what was easily their best performance of the season - a 45-25 victory over the Chiefs in the final round of fixtures before the June Test window.Yeah, I think we tried, against the Crusaders, a week before [the Chiefs], to play quite a defensive game, to kick a lot more, and it really didnt suit us, Gibson said.We didnt play particularly well and we were well beaten. So against the Chiefs, we really went back to saying hey, this is the style of play that we really want to play against a team who we respect around a number of things. So really it was a case of well, if were going to progress in this competition, were going to do it in the way that we want to be known for and the style of play; thats very much using the ball positively, whether thats going through a team or going around the edges, and keeping the ball alive, continuity, combined with that go-forward and using our big forwards to rumble on.Following their Tokyo outing, the Waratahs return home to face the Hurricanes before heading offshore once more to tackle the Blues in Auckland. The state of Super Rugby ladder suggests that only one Australian team will reach the playoffs, and with the Brumbies -- who currently sit level on 34 points with NSW -- having a much easier run home, its likely Gibsons side will need three wins to reach a third straight postseason. But drawing on the learnings from 2014, when the Waratahs won nine straight to lift the title, Gibson knows the Waratahs will be primed for a crack at the finals if they can negotiate a tricky final three rounds.Back in 2014 we went on an amazing run, I think we won nine straight and we built a lot of momentum and a lot of belief out of quite a lot of adversity really, he told ESPN.We werent playing very good rugby in the early rounds and we struggled our way through; I think we came off a loss to the Force and then went on a winning run. So for us, and in my experience, coming into finals its all about momentum and getting really confident and positive about your play.I guess the challenge for us with the returning Wallabies is harnessing their energy and getting the best out of them while also the guys whove been holding the fort, so to speak, and making sure that they also carry the team.Whether they fall short in a quest for a third straight finals appearance, or record the three wins theyll likely need to progress and challenge for the title, Gibson has already endured a crash course in head coaching.More to that, its opened his eyes to the greater challenges at play in Australian rugby, specifically NSW, and what he needs to do if the Waratahs are to be perennial contenders under his reign.Well certainly part of our challenge here at NSW is to set up the pathways and systems so that we can have long-term success, he said.I think weve got a way to go, but were certainly growing and starting to align more with the very successful teams in Super Rugby.I guess the luxury we have here is the fantastic player base that we do enjoy and its making sure that we maximise that advantage and I think that weve still got plenty of growth (to go) and were still finding out what is the best way to do that. CLEVELAND -- Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant have been nearly inseparable since the day they became major league teammates in the spring of 2015, 20-somethings with power and talent to burn.Their lockers are practically on top of each other in the Chicago Cubs clubhouse. Their names are often squeezed one on top of the other in manager Joe Maddons lineup. Heck, they even have one of those catchy nicknames typically reserved for Hollywood power couples. And now Bryzzo has something else: a world title. The centerpieces of Theo Epsteins methodical, patient rebuild helped the Cubs shed 108 years of futility early Thursday with one final game of catch in the 10th inning of Game 7 of the World Series. When Bryant fielded the grounder by Clevelands Michael Martinez and fired it across the diamond to Rizzo at first base, the moment theyd talked about suddenly came to be.Cubs 8. Indians 7. Curse vanquished. Destiny fulfilled. And more may be on the way. Bryant is 24. Rizzo is 27. Shortstop Addison Russell is 22. Second baseman Javy Baez, 24. Catcher Willson Contreras, 24. All of them are under team control through at least 2021. More celebrations may lie ahead.I think were going to have more opportunities, general manager Jed Hoyer said. But the playoffs are really humbling ... To think that simply being the most talented team and having the best record, its still really hard to win. I think this playoff series showed that.Maybe, but it helps when your young core learns on the fly, a group personified by Rizzo -- the first major piece acquired by Epstein in 2012 -- and Bryant -- taken with the second overall pick in the 2013 draft. This is what you dream for, Bryant said. I mean, I made the last out of the World Series.Well, technically Rizzo made the final out. Something theyd talked about a week ahead of time.He said, `If I make the last out, Im keeping that ball because its worth a lot of money, Bryant said with a laugh.A memento Rizzo clutched tight as he and Bryant raced to hug each other as their teammates joyously poured onto the Progressive Field turf to put an exclamation point on a season when they finally turned Chicagos century-old tag of lovable losers into something far more refined: champions. This is unbelievable, Rizzo said. Its so exhausting. Looking back on it, this was our 210th game with spring training and playoffs and the season. We deserve this. Its an outcome that seemingly was never in doubt from the moment Bryant hit a solo home run in the fourth inning of Game 5, the one that kick-started a season-saving victory and served as the rocket fuel that propelled the franchise to heights not seen since 1908.The blast off Trevor Bauer tied the game. Rizzo then doubled and scored the go-ahead run. Chicago never trailed again. Not in a 9-3 laugher in Game 6. Not during the clincher, one that featured Bryant and Rizzo right in the middle of the rally that gave the Cubs an early four-run lead. There Rizzo was again in the 10th after the Indians had improbably tied it off closer Aroldis Chapman with a two-run home run in the seventh. The Indians chose to intentionally walk Rizzo to put runners on first and second with one out, setting up Ben Zobrist for the go-ahead RBI double. Rizzo then raced home for the deciding run on Miguel Monteros single to left.Bryant, the heavy favorite to win the NL MVP later this month, finished the Series hitting .267 with two home runs. Rizzo hit .360 with a homer and three doubles. And theyre just getting started.Theyre the heart of this team, said Zobrist, the Series MVP. What theyve done together in their time is pretty special. TOKYO -- IOC President Thomas Bach met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday and suggested staging some events for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the northeastern region of Japan hit by the 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster.Bach said the International Olympic Committee is considering holding some of the baseball and softball games in the affected areas as one of the options.Fukushima is reportedly a strong candidate. Baseball and softball were dropped from the Olympics after Beijing 2008 but are among five sports added to the program for the 2020 Games. Both are very popular in Japan and an event in the disaster-affected areas could send a powerful message of reconstruction.Bach said Abe welcomed his proposal. We discussed ... the idea of the IOC to have some events of the Olympic games of Tokyo 2020 in the disaster-affected areas, to contribute to the regeneration of the area, to show the world by 2020 how this regeneration is making progress, Bach said.Baseball and softball are one of the options under discussion given the great popularity of the sport here in Japan, he told reporters. So an inaugural match for baseball with the participation of the Japanese team, I think, could be a very powerful message. The primary venue for baseball and softball is expected to be the Yokohama Stadium.Bach is in Japan amid tension between Olympic organizers and Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, who is pushing to cut costs. A Tokyo government panel set up by Koike said the cost of the Olympics could exceed $30 billion -- four times the initial estimate -- unless drastic cuts are made.ddddddddddddThe city panel also proposed moving three sports from planned new venues to existing ones -- including relocating rowing to a site hundreds of miles outside the capital. The IOC has suggested the possibility of moving rowing to an existing site in South Korea in case there is no resolution over the Japanese venue, the Asahi newspaper reported, quoting unidentified Japanese sources as saying. The South Korean venue in Chungiu City hosted the 2013 world championships and rowing at the 2014 Asian Games.Speaking at Tokyo 2020 headquarters, Bach did not address reports of the rowing and canoe sprint events possibly being moved to South Korea.Earlier, Bach rejected calls to expand four-party talks aimed at reducing the costs of the Tokyo Games.Bach said negotiations between the IOC, Tokyo organizers, the city government and Japans central government should result in cost reductions.Koike had suggested including international and national sports federations in the four-party talks but Bach said the makeup of the group has been agreed on.We have an agreement about this four-partite working group, Bach said. And this was very well perceived by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and by the governor, and we will follow this agreement we had yesterday. Pelle Lindbergh, Barry Ashbee, Roger Neilson, and God Bless America singer Kate Smith all were included. The video included a clip of the late voice of the Flyers Gene Hart saying his Philly famous phrase, Good night and good hockey.Nolan had scolded fans during last seasons playoffs when they hurled promotional bracelets on the ice during a lopsided loss. He had urged fans to show some class during the first wave of band tossing. The Flyers issued a similar warning before the opener when they tried another bracelet giveaway as the attraction of a glitzy pregame show. The fans heeded the warning this time and keep the bracelets on their wrists instead of on the ice.On opening night, it still didnt take much to anger Flyers fans.Wagner scored the only goal of the first and the Flyers failed to convert on late power plays that let them get booed off the ice headed into intermission.Simmonds scored his third goal of the season and Read followed with his surprising fourth in the second to lift the Flyers to a 2-1 lead. Simmonds goal came on the power play but the Flyers missed on six other attempts through two periods. They blocked shots. They cleared pucks, Perry said. They did everything they were asked to do. Clark Griswold Jersey . -- Cam Newton pranced into the end zone, placed his hands over his chest and did his familiar Superman pose. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Minnesota Twins manager Paul Molitor labeled it unraveling.Twins right-hander Tyler Duffey (8-9) retired the first 10 hitters, striking out four. But he only got one out from the final seven batters he faced before being removed by Molitor in an 8-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night. After Cheslor Cuthberts single with one out in the fourth, Duffey walked three and hit a batter with Alex Gordons third career grand slam punctuating the inning. Duffey was replaced by Michael Tonkin after 3 2/3 innings, allowing five runs.Unraveling, thats one word you can use, Molitor said. He had a nice start to the game. He rolled through the first 10 hitters. But, you know, its just one of those things, the young guys, they get in certain situations where, as much as you preach to them to slow down, they just have trouble doing it.After Cuthberts hit, Duffey walked Lorenzo Cain and Kendrys Morales and hit Salvador Perez with a pitch with the bases loaded.Gordons been hot ever since he left our park, Molitor said. He just misplaced a fastball and youre looking at five runs on two hits. So, it was tough. The Royals have won five straight and eight of nine to move above .500 for the first time since July 22. Royals starting pitchers have a 1.61 ERA in the five-game winning streak, allowing 23 hits and six earned runs in 33 2/3 innings, striking out 27 and walking seven.Gordon, who was hitting .199 with 16 RBI on Aug. 9, extended his hitting streak to a season-best nine games, hiking his average to .219. Gordon has homered in three consecutive games.I think I tried to adjust by being better, and ultimately being worse, Duffey said. Just kind of missing arm side with a fastball, then I end up yanking a curveball and then the one that Gordon hit out wasnt necessarily a good pitch to hit. It just went right into his swinng path.dddddddddddd And then, giving up a grand slam, thats what happens when you walk a guy and hit a guy. Thats a really good lineup. I gave them some chances and they took full advantage of it.Dillon Gee (5-6) picked up the Royals first victory from a No. 5 starter since May 31. The Royals are 9-21 is games started by the fifth starter.Gee, who is 3-6 in 10 starts, gave up a home run to Brian Dozier on his third pitch. It was Doziers 14th career leadoff homer and his 27th for the season. He has homered in five straight games against the Royals. That was the only run Gee would allow as he limited the Twins to four singles after the home run, walked one and struck out seven. Gees seven innings were a season high.He didnt throw too many heaters, Twins left fielder Robbie Grossman said. He really kept us off balance, threw his off-speed for strikes. That was a key for him.The Royals added three runs in the eighth with Morales and Eric Hosmer both driving in a run. The other run scored on a throwing error by center fielder Eddie Rosario.Cuthbert had three of the Royals seven hits, bringing his hit total to 100, which ranks second among AL rookies.TRAINERS ROOMRoyals: LHP Jason Vargas, who has not pitched this season after Tommy John surgery in July 2015, made his third rehab start Wednesday, giving up three runs and four hits, including two home runs, in 2 1/3 innings for Northwest Arkansas against Corpus Christi. He threw 42 pitches, 27 for strikes, while striking out one and walking none.UP NEXTTwins: RHP Jose Berrios yielded six runs, eight hits and a walk in two innings in his previous start, a 15-7 loss to Houston.Royals: RHP Edinson Volquez is 2-0 with a 2.95 ERA in three 2016 starts against the Twins. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Mark Sanchez, Denvers biggest offseason acquisition, didnt make the roster Saturday, saving the Broncos $3.5 million and a seventh-round draft pick. Sanchez quickly agreed to a deal with the Dallas Cowboys. The Broncos brought in Austin Davis on a one-year deal to mentor starter Trevor Siemian and rookie Paxton Lynch, neither of whom have ever thrown a pass in the NFL regular season.Davis was recently released by the Cleveland Browns.General manager John Elway insisted that Siemian neednt worry about losing his starting job, however.Hes not going to be looking over his shoulder, Elway said. The Broncos open the season Thursday night against Carolina Panthers, the team they beat in Super Bowl 50. Denver is the first team since the 2001 Baltimore Ravens to try to go back-to-back after losing its top two quarterbacks.Peyton Manning retired a month after the Super Bowl and longtime backup Brock Osweiler bolted to Houston 48 hours later when free agency opened. Elway then acquired Sanchez from the Philadelphia Eagles, but Siemian, a seventh-round pick in 2015 from Northwestern, beat him out this summer .I had a long talk with Mark today and he handled it with great class, Elway said. ... It was a tough situation to walk into.Elways entire eight-man draft class made the final roster, a remarkable achievement for a Super Bowl champion. Also, undrafted rookie nose tackle Kyle Peko made it.Its always good when you have your young guys making the team, Elway said.Other veterans who failed to make the team were defensive lineman Henry Milton and running backs Ronnie Hillman and Juwan Thompson, who were beaten out by rookies Devontae Booker and Andy Janovich, a fullback, and Kapri Bibbs, who spent most of the last two seasons on Denvers practice squad.Ronnie was a guy that did a lot of good things for us. We just thought that with Kapri we were probably in better shape with what he could do on special teams, Elway said.Hillman led the team in rushing last season, but played only sparingly in the Super Bowl when C.J. Anderson ran for 90 yards and Denvers only offensive TD. Anderson signed a four-year, $18 million deal in the offseason and Hillman re-signed on a one-year, $2 million deal after finding no interest on the open market.Another practice squad graduate is second-year wide receiver Jordan Taylor, who parlayed his experience as Mannings personal practice partner during the QBs comeback from a foot injury last year into a roster spot. He caught two TD passes from Lynch in the final preseason game.He should be proud, Elway said. He won the job not only for what he did on Thursday but for the work hes put in this whole offseason. Also, Elway labeled reports that the Broncos were shopping Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib as false. Elway said he hasnt heard of any possible punishment from the league over an incident in June in which Talib suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his right leg.Weve heard nothing about any NFL suspension of Talib, whos had firearm incidents in the past, Elway said. So yeah, were full speed ahead. It would be very disappointing if we were told at this point in time.In other matters, Elway said:-He had no update on contract talks with wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders. The only thing thats changed there was Tavon Austin, who recently signed a four-year, $42 million deal with the Rams, including $30 million guaranteed.-He went with rookie punter Riley Dixon over veteran Britton Colquitt because we like Rileys upside. Obviously, Britton did a great job for us and really kicked well at the end of last year. Dixon had an 18-yard punt in the preseason finale. When you go with a young guy, theres going to be some growing pains, Elway said. But were willing to risk that with Riley.-He wouldnt commit to adding Shiloh Keo to the 53-man roster once the fifth-year safety completes his two-game suspension for an offseason drunken driving arrest. He plays with great spirit, said Elway. (But) you never know what can happen in two weeks, so well wait and see what happens when we get there.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: www.twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow AP Pro Football Writer Arnie Melendrez Stapleton on Twitter: http://twitter.com/arniestapleton Vapormax Mujer Negras . -- Jimmie Johnson held off a teammate, passed a pair of Hall of Famers, and dominated once more at Dover. On Sunday, seven American challengers will attempt to overthrow the Evolution Championship Series (Evo) throne at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. They will enter the top eight of Super Smash Bros. Melee, each vying for his own personal chance to make history.Standing in their way is the one overseas competitor still alive on foreign ground, as defending Evolution champion Adam Armada Lindgren looks to retain his title and achieve back-to-back gold-medal finishes. One Swedish champion versus seven American contenders. Who will exit Mandalay as the worlds best Melee player?Winners Bracket SemifinalsAdam Armada Lindgren vs. Jason Mew2King ZimmermanOn Sunday, these two gods of Melee will battle it out to get a guaranteed top-three placing and a spot in the Winners Final. Alliances Armada, the undisputed Melee champion of 2015, has had a less successful year in 2016; however, he has kept the same air of consistency that has him in the history books as one of the best players in the games history. Mew2King, whose play is the opposite of consistent, can vary in form for all sorts of different reasons. Featuring two of the smartest players in the professional scene today, its a matchup between veterans, with the Swedish champion entering as the favorite.Yet, even with his mentality issues at times, Mew2King is someone you cant count out. An upset run to the finals and a championship win would be the pinnacle of a decadelong career of Echo Foxs Smash representative.Juan Hungrybox Debiedma vs. Justin Plup McGrathIts now or never for Team Liquids ace Hungrybox. A perennial finalist, he has earned the title as the Silver King of Melee at Evo, finishing as runner-up in both the 2015 and 2014 tournaments to Armada and eternal rival Cloud9s Joseph Mango Marquez, respectively. This year, however, has been the Year of Hungrybox, as the Jigglypuff master has won eight tournaments and only grabbed a silver medal twice. For Hungrybox, this tournament will shape how people view his legacy. Given his third-place finish in 2013 and his two silver finishes the past two years, another failure to grab gold in a year where he has routinely won championships will be looked upon as a missed opportunity. A title, however, would elevate him to the same status as Mango and Armada: an Evolution champion. His opponent, Plup, is no stranger to playing with and against Hungrybox, as the two both come out of the Florida region and have been a prolific tag team before in Melee doubles. Plups winners semifinals placement is his own statement that hes ready to take the next step in his career. A consistent top eight finisher, he had his first huge breakthrough during the last Evo, where he upset both Mango and Team SoloMids William Leffen Hjelte to finish in fourth place (see Road to Evo: Plup).dddddddddddd His road ended in the losers semifinals of that tournament when he fell to Hungryboxs Jigglypuff in a 2-0 sweep over his Sheik.Losers Bracket Round 5Weston Westballz Dennis vs. Johnny S2J KimThis match could make the career of either competitor. In the only matchup in the top eight without one of the tournament favorites, G2 Esports recently signed talent Westballz or Tempo Storms S2J could push himself to the next level with a win.Westballz, one of the better non-god or Leffen players in 2015 with top four finishes at various large events, has had more of a quiet 2016. Hes placed outside the semifinals for a majority of the tournaments that he has played in, outside of his minor tournament victory in London over Germanys Mustafa Ice Akcakaya. S2J, out of all eight finalists, is the biggest long shot, having not finished above seventh-eighth place at a premier competition this year. His Evolution history has been good but nothing remarkable, hovering around the 13th to 24th position the past three years. This years Cinderella run could come from this matchup between Westballzs Falco and S2Js Captain Falcon.Joseph Mango Marquez vs. Kevin PewPewU ToyThe final match of the top eight might also be its best. Mango, two-time Evolution champion, was thwarted from his three-peat last year and threw his participation medal into the crowd during the closing ceremony. Possibly the greatest American to ever pick up the game, Mangos desire and drive is to grab the 3vo title that he failed to pick up last year. He has changed his training regimen around (see Road to Evo: Mango), and the C9 star is hoping that his more focused attitude and approach to the game will be what he needs to take home the title he covets so much. Coming out of the losers bracket, hell need to win five straight matches on Sunday to make his dream a reality in front of a raucous crowd at the Events Center.CLGs PewPewU, often seen as a tandem alongside club and doubles teammate Zachary SFAT Cordoni, is going it alone in the final eight at Evolution. His placement already will be the best in his career -- hes placed ninth-12th the past two years -- but Counter Logics player doesnt want the run to end here. A win over Mango would boost PewPewU into the top six and give him the chance to take down multiple Melee gods en route to an unexpected title run. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Denver Broncos coach Gary Kubiak said he wants one more look at quarterback Trevor Siemian before naming a starting quarterback for Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.Siemian suffered a left (non-throwing) shoulder injury just before halftime Sunday in a 27-7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Siemian was held out of practice Wednesday, but threw Thursday and Friday at practice. He took more reps in practice; well continue to see how he comes out of it, Kubiak said Friday after the workout. Weve got 48 hours here; well see how he is (Saturday) ... Well probably work him (Saturday) more than we normally would a player on Saturday just to take a look. Hes made progress every day.Siemian has received treatment each day this week and will again Saturday.Rookie Paxton Lynch has done much of the work with the starting offense in practice thus far this week and Lynch would get the start against the Falcons if Siemian could not play.Kubiak was asked Friday what the determining factor would be in a decision about whether to start Siemian against the Falcons, and Kubiak said the 24-year-old quarterback would have to pass the eye test.Me watching him movve, watching him make all the throws, Kubiak said.dddddddddddd We moved him around some (Friday), which is something we didnt do (Thursday), so just go back and look at the big picture.Kubiak did add that Siemian had progressed enough to protect himself in the game. You send a player out there, youve got to know everybodys going to get hit; thats part of the game, Kubiak said. We feel good about that; hes shown the ability to move and do the things he needs to do. Its more us watching him (Saturday) and seeing what we think.Kubiak has said because of Siemians knowledge of the playbook, Siemian could be limited in practice through the week still play on Sunday if physically able.Siemian suffered the injury when he was sacked by Buccaneers defensive tackle Clinton McDonald just before halftime. To make the tackle McDonald swung Siemian around and tossed him down directly on the left shoulder. For the season the Broncos have won all four of Siemians starts and he has thrown for 824 yards to go with six touchdowns and three interceptions. LANDOVER, Md. -- Even though the Washington Redskins rested several key starters, they couldnt avoid injuries in their second preseason game. With quarterback Kirk Cousins, receiver DeSean Jackson and cornerback Josh Norman watching from the sideline, top running back Matt Jones left in the first quarter of the Redskins 22-18 victory over the New York Jets with a sprained left shoulder.Jones couldnt raise his hand above his head even after the game, but coach Jay Gruden was cautiously optimistic about the situation.Well continue to get him checked out, get rehab and hopefully it wont be too long, Gruden said. Its a little upsetting, but I think hes going to be OK. I dont think its going to be a long injury.Jones looked good with 31 yards on seven carries before Calvin Pryor landed on him after pushing him out of bounds. The Redskins (1-1) can ill afford to lose Jones given their lack of experienced depth behind him.Third-down back Chris Thompson, rookies Robert Kelley and Keith Marshall and second-year player Mack Brown split the bulk of the carries after Jones left. Wide receiver Rashad Ross was among the standouts for Washington with seven catches, including two touchdowns, for 58 yards.I thought Ross played outstanding, said quarterback Colt McCoy, who learned he was starting as he came out of the tunnel before the game and was 13 of 16 for 159 yards. Ross brings speed to the table, and thats a big asset. When he uses it that way, its good for the offense.Having all of the options is better for the offense, but Gruden opted to rest Cousins, Jackson and Pierre Garcon -- and Norman, cornerback Bashaud Breeland and linebackers Will Compton and Ryan Kerrigan on defense -- to see other players in important spots. The Jets (1-1) saw good things out of undrafted rookie receiver Robby Anderson, who made six catches for 131 yards. The Temple product hauled in a 50-yard pass from third-stringer Bryce Petty and made a 42-yard touchdown catch.Hes got a very, very sneaky way of making hard catches look easy, Petty said. Hes made a bunch of those catches in practice, so its nice to see that transition to the game.Cornerback Darrelle Revis made an impact in his preseason debut, picking off McCoy in the end zone during Washingtons opening drive. Starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was 4 of 9 for 35 yards, and Bilal Powell ran for 23 yards on three carries.Rookie Nate Sudfeld led Washington on the game-winning drive, completing it with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Kendal Thompson with 29 seconds left.ROOKIE WATCHJets: QB Christian Hackenberg didnt get into the game, which coach Todd Bowles repeatedly called a coachs decision.Redskins: Sudfeld, a sixth-round pick out of Indiana playing against brother Zach for the first time, was 10 of 20 for 77 yards, with most of that coming on the final drive.POSITION BATTLESJets: K Ross Martin, a rookie out of Duke, made a 40-yard field goal and hit the right upright on an extra-point attempt. Nick Folk made his extra-point attempt. Field goal kicking is easy, you make or you miss, Bowles said.Redskins: Along with Ross, WR Ryan Grant had four catches for 43 yards. ... ST. LOUIS -- Jon Lester gave the Chicago Cubs a much-needed boost.Anthony Rizzo hit a pair of home runs and Lester pitched eight dominant innings as the Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-0 on Wednesday to clinch a playoff berth. The Cubs improved their major league-best record to 93-52, and their magic number is one to clinch their first NL Central title since 2008. They can wrap up the division crown Thursday night with a win at home over Milwaukee or a St. Louis loss in San Francisco.Chicago secured at least a wild card because the four-game series between the Cardinals and Giants makes it impossible for both to catch the Cubs in the standings.Ill tell you, if you were in that dugout at the beginning of the game, the guys were dead on their feet, Chicago manager Joe Maddon said. To play the kind of game we did today -- really hot, last game of a long road trip -- I give them a ton of credit. (Lester) really played into all that. The Cardinals remained a half-game behind the New York Mets and one game behind the Giants for the two NL wild cards.Lester (17-4) allowed four baserunners, none of which got past first. Cubs catcher David Ross threw out two Cardinals trying to steal second and Lester faced just two batters over the minimum.Cardinals outfielder Brandon Moss called Lester one of the best in the game.Today was one of those days were he had both working and he wasnt missing over the middle and he was even throwing some curveballs and change-ups to keep you off of everything, Moss said.Lester improved to 7-0 with a 1.02 ERA in his last nine starts. He also helped his cause at the plate with an RBI single in the third.Im just trying to give a good at-bat, Lester said. He elevated a changeup for me and I got it far enough out there to give us a run.Rizzos two-run homer in the ninth gave him 31 homers and 101 RBI on the season. He is the second Cubs left-handed hitter in franchise history to post multiple 30 home run and 100 RBI seasons (Billy Williams did it in 1965, 1970 and 1972).Billy Williams, his numbers speak for himself and hes done it so many years, so its a really good feeling, Rizzo said.Ross two-run homer in the fifth snapped a 0-for-8 streak and it was his first home run since Aug. 17.St. Louis starter Carlos Martinez (14-8) gave up four runs and eight hits in six innings.Martinez started off strong, striking out the side in the first and four of the first six batters he faced. Five of his nine strikeouts came on called third strikes. He entered the game having allowed just 12 homers this season and his home run per nine innings average of 0.63 was second in the National League to the Mets Noah Syndergaard (0.52).Ross home run was just third by a right-handed batter against Martinez, who had his four winning decisions streak snapped. The loss dropped the Cardinals home record to 33-41, assuring St. Louis of its first losing record at home since 1999 when it played in Busch Stadium II.While clinching at least a wild card spot is nice, the Cubs look forward to wrapping up the division at home this weekend, preferably tomorrow.Lets do it, Maddon said. The sooner, the better. Then we can make our appropriate plans going forward and really set things up to make our best push.TRAINERS ROOMCardinals: RHP Michael Wacha (right shoulder inflammation) was activated from the disabled list and will pitch out of the bullpen ... ATLANTA -- Manager Don Mattingly says newly acquired closer Fernando Rodney will work primarily as a setup man for A.J. Ramos in the Miami Marlins bullpen.Rodney joined his new team on Friday, a day after San Diego traded him for a minor league pitcher. The Marlins view Rodney as adding strength to an already solid group of relievers.Mattingly will occasionally give him a chance to close, but the job still belongs to Ramos.Talking with him, he was great in giving him our reasoning, Mattingly said. Like I told him, if he was the guy here and had not blown one, I would do the same thing for him. I think he totally understands.Rodneys 253 career saves rank fifth among active pitchers. The 39-year-old has converted all 17 of his chances this year, and his 0.31 ERA leads the majors among qualifying relievers.Rodney was all smiles as he spoke with reporters before Fridays game against the Atlanta Braves. He playfully seemed more concerned about having to conform to Mattinglys rule banning facial hair and shave his beard. He was still holding out hope it wont have to go.If thats the rule they have here, I like to play baseball and have fun, Rodney said. Im not worried about shaving. I want to have fun with my teammates, play good, play hard. Thats it.Ramos has been Miamis closer since May 2015. His 24 saves rank second in the majors, and he has converted 33 straight chances since last September. With A.J. and what hes been able to do -- hes been perfect -- it would be hard for me to taake that out of our mix, Mattingly said.dddddddddddd Our back end has been good. Fernando makes us better.Mattingly told Rodney that he will get some chances to close when Ramos has worked consecutive days.Fernando has a track record obviously of being a big-time guy, Mattingly said. Hes been there, done that.David Phelps will now primarily work the seventh inning and Kyle Barraclough the sixth inning.Mattingly indicated that Ramos, Phelps and Barraclough welcomed the news of Rodneys addition.I think these guys, for the most part, like knowing when theyre going to pitch and in what situations, Mattingly said. We cant always give them exactly when every time, but I think they like to know when the phone rings, whos getting up for the most part. The Marlins are Rodneys seventh team and sixth since 2011, but Mattingly believes he will fit in easily. All the people we talked to love this guy, Mattingly said. As a teammate on and off the field, he wants to win. Totally professional. Im excited about having this guy. I think hes going to help our club.Though Mattingly said the beard is coming off, the Marlins will let Rodney keep wearing his cap cocked sideways. The arrow, a celebratory stance he uses after earning a save, is another Rodney staple that stays.Im going to save the arrow for now, Rodney said. If you have a chance, youre going to see a landing. CHASKA, Minn. -- With half of the roster filled with Ryder Cup rookies, the value of the European veterans in golfs biennial international grudge match has only increased.Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson are just the type of tandem for the team to turn to.We hit the ball a very similar distance, so we can work off one another from that point of view, Rose said. Statistically we play a similar game, our fairways and greens. Our ball-striking would be our strength.Even their caddies are pals. Its not just a team of me and Henrik. Its a team of four that feel comfortable together, said Rose, who played with Stenson at the last Ryder Cup for two four-ball matches and one foursome match in Gleneagles, Scotland. They won all three. The pairings havent been revealed yet for the start of play on Friday at Hazeltine National Golf Club, but not seeing Rose and Stenson together for at least some of the partnered competition would be a surprise.Rose, the 36-year-old Brit, has a 9-3-2 record over three Ryder Cups with a six-match winning streak. Currently ranked 11th in the world, Rose brought a gold medal home from the Olympics in Brazil. He beat out his buddy as Stenson, the 40-year-old Swede who is now No. 5 in the world, settled for silver.Everyone is kind of contributing whichever way they can, said Stenson, whose record is 5-4-2 over two previous Ryder Cups. As I said, its a very nice atmosphere in there, and I think the boys who havent been here before are feeling very welcome.Rose beat Phil Mickelson in Scotland in Sunday singles play with a 35-foot birdie putt from the back of the 17th green to win that hole and a 12-footer for birdie on the 18th to pick up a critical point toward Europes momentum in 2014.With Danny Willett (Masters), Stenson (British Open), Rose (Olympics) and Rory McIlroy (FedEx Cup), the European team has quite a collection of champions from this season. Playing in Rio de Janiero helped get them in a nationalist team, but, no, the gold medal is not here for inspiration. Its not something that Im touting around, not at all, Rose said. This week, Danny doesnt have the green jacket in the team room. Rory doesnt have the FedEx Cup in the team room.dddddddddddd I think this is about the Ryder Cup and that little gold trophy, and thats enough for us all.Age isnt always a benefit, alas. Rose has been bothered by a back injury this year. Stenson has a slight tear of the meniscus in his right knee, an injury that forced him out after one round at The Barclays in late August and kept him out of the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship this month to rest. Speaking Wednesday before practice, Stenson said his knee feels fit enough to play five matches if hes asked to.Im up for a lot of golf and unless the knee tells me otherwise, Stenson said, thats the way I approach it.Rose has a special fondness for the course at Hazeltine, finishing in 23rd place here at the PGA Championship in 2002 about a month before his father, Ken Rose, died of cancer. During his practice round Tuesday, Rose was reminded by the scenery of a photo his mom has of his dad watching the action in Minnesota that year under some trees on the back nine. Its titled, Happy Days.I do think about my dad a lot, especially when it comes to moments like this because these are moments he would have loved to have been a part of, Rose said. Yeah, its a nice source of energy for me this week.Only Lee Westwood at age 43 is older than Stenson and Rose on the rookie-laden European team. The experience and poise Stenson and Rose can provide will thus be welcomed by the visitors against an opponent determined, perhaps even desperate, to stop the slide. In America, said Andy Sullivan, the first-timer from England, obviously its going to be an atmosphere and quite one-sided.The Europeans were treated to a show by magician Dynamo on Tuesday night, part of the weeklong team-building process designed to both inspire and relax.Very impressive, Stenson said. Before I knew it, I was back in bed and I didnt even walk to my room.Rose, Stenson and the rest of the squad will try to produce some of their own tricks on the course starting Friday morning.---Follow Dave Campbell on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/DaveCampbellAP Cheap Jerseys Wholesale China NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Free Shipping Wholesale Jerseys 2020 Wholesale Authentic Jerseys Cheap Jerseys China Wholesale Authentic Jerseys ' ' '

PITTSBURGH -- The learning curve is starting to level off for Javon Hargrave, Artie Burns and Sean Davis. That hardly means its flat. Not by a long shot. Still, the game is beginning to slow down for the three Pittsburgh Steeler rookies, all of whom have made significant plays on a defense thats picked it up during the teams modest turnaround.I get so excited when were in the huddle, said Davis, a safety. I see us and theres not a drop off.Exactly what the Steelers (6-5) had in mind when they used each of their first three picks in the 2016 draft to give an underperforming unit a needed jolt of youth and talent, even if they didnt anticipate relying on them to become regulars quite so soon. Yet there was Burns, the 25th overall pick last spring, picking up his second career interception against the Browns on Nov. 20. There was Hargrave, a third-rounder from South Carolina State, falling on a fumble in the end zone for a score in the same game. There was Davis, a second-round safety, making a touchdown-saving tackle against Indianapolis that set up one of Pittsburghs two goal line stands in a 28-7 victory on Thanksgiving.Youve got to go with what you got, defensive coordinator Keith Butler said last week. Its not like youve got a lot of choices.Maybe, but all three have found their legs following a shaky start, particularly Davis, who was forced to split time at safety and nickelback early in the season. By Davis own admission, it was a bit much a bit too soon. You have to study watching the same film but its two different aspects, Davis said. Im not running away from it, but its hard. Im trying to learn everything, trying to learn two different positions. It got a little tough so they backed up. Im handling my job well. Maybe theyll be giving me a little bit more moving forward. It seems Davis is already there. He was the only Steeler to be on the field for every defensive snap against the Colts, a very tangible vote of confidence from Butler and head coach Mike Tomlin. They rewarded me and put me out there, Davis said. Im just going to continue to do what Im doing, keep my head down, stay humble and continue to work. Not that he has much choice in the matter, particularly for a club still trying to escape the rubble of a nightmarish four-game losing streak that threatened to derail a once promising season. Solid if hardly spectacular victories over the winless Browns and Andrew Luck-less Indianapolis stopped the slide. The Steelers werent exactly dominant but maybe thats a good thing. After spending most of the first five weeks winning with style, Pittsburgh opted for a more substantive approach in games they absolutely had to have. The defense picked up 11 sacks over the two games -- nearly doubling the Steelers season total -- and forced a pair of fourth quarter interceptions against the Colts, the kind of splash plays Tomlin so dearly covets. A far more difficult task awaits on Sunday when Eli Manning, Odell Beckham Jr. and the streaking New York Giants (8-3) visit Heinz Field. Its a measuring stick of sorts to see just how far the kids have come and if Pittsburghs recent return to normalcy is for real.Burns is trying to downplay the prospect of facing the explosive -- and occasionally overly emotive -- Beckham.I dont want to use it as a measurement because everybodys going to make plays here and there, Burns said. Im just going out there and competing and (if) you come out with a `W, thats what matters.Still, theres little doubt getting a shot at slowing down the New York star is one of the reasons the Steelers made Burns the first cornerback theyve taken in the opening round of the draft in nearly 20 years. Tomlin describes Burns as combative, particularly at the line of scrimmage where most plays are won and lost, though Burns has exceptional recovery speed and long arms to make up for the occasional mistake. Hes made believers out of his teammates, including wide receiver Antonio Brown, who spent a portion of the spring and summer providing Burns with some pretty good on-the-job training.Hargraves progress has been more subtle, though hes clearly taken a step forward with defensive end Cam Heyward now out for the season. The player teammates call J Wobble appears decidedly sturdy, picking up the first two sacks of his career over the last two weeks and making a season-high four tackles against the Colts. Its really making me want more, Hargrave said. Im even hungry for more.Game notes WR Darrius Heyward Bey (foot) is likely out against the Giants. ... Lancashire 124 for 5 (Moores 39*, Clark 31*) beat Birmingham 94 for 8 (Mahmood 3-12, LIlley 2-21) by 30 runsScorecardPrecisely eleven months since they danced and sang on the Edgbaston outfield after winning last years NatWest T20 Blast, Lancashires cricketers went into their final group match with coach Ashley Giles voicing the hope they could upset the party of the Birmingham Bears, his former side, who needed a win to be certain of reaching the last eight.By the end of a fine and rather fascinating match, Giles could argue that he had achieved his modest objective with a 30-run victory, albeit that both eliminated teams were left dancing round their handbags in the kitchen while Agadoo played on a continuous loop.Lancashire had needed either a washout or a tie at Chester-le-Street if they were to qualify and the joy which inspired their victory song was surely tinged with the knowledge that they had squandered their short-form opportunities earlier in the season. For their part, having restricted Lancashire to 59 for 5 in the 14th over Birmingham allowed their hosts to amass 124 for 5 and the Bears then failed by a distance to chase down that score on a slow pitchBoth these teams could echo the impassioned regret of Billy Bigelow in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel: they had both let their golden chances pass them by.None of which should detract from the enjoyment eventually derived by most of the 10,263 spectators, Lancashire second-biggest T20 crowd, from this slow-burner of a short-form game in which the home batsmen had struggled painfully in the opening overs against an accurate Bears attack. Only four boundaries were struck in the opening 13.3 overs, all of them in the powerplay. Like a drunk trying to unlock his front door, each Lancashire batsman searched for the correct opening without ever quite finding it.Josh Poysden took a couple of wickets and was the pick of the Bears attack but he had finished his four-over spell when Tom Moores and Jordan Clark launched a late counter-attack, each batsman hitting two fours and a six in their 65-run stand for the sixth wicket. Having sat rather quietly, at least by T20 standards, the crowd responded warmly to this fine cricket and to the inventive excellence of 19-year-old Moores, who yet again looked like the sort of cricketer you want by your side in a scrap.By the mid-innings break it was clear that Lancashire had posted a defendable total..dddddddddddd. Who knows, perhaps the enraged supporter who had suggested earlier in the evening that the entire county club should be disbanded was now supporting it be reformed. All the same, no one knew then that Mooress unbeaten 39 would be the highest score of the match or that Clarks 31 not out would be the second best. That this was so can be explained partly by the failure of the Bears batsmen to adapt their strokeplay on this sluggish wicket, one perfectly at odds with the sort of wicket generally recommended for T20 cricket. But Lancashires victory was also a tribute to the work of their four spinners, none of whom went for many. Indeed, Croft conceded 12 runs from his four overs but he was only the leader of a slow bowling quartet, including Stephen Parry, Arron Lilley and Liam Livingstone, who sent down 16 overs of twisters yet conceded only 64 runs and took four wickets.Given these difficulties Birmingham probably needed Bell to play one of his classier innings but he was undone by a fine ball from Saqib Mahmood which he could only glove to Moores; the visitors could also have done without the run out of William Porterfield, who ran on a misfield but was sent back by Sam Hain and beaten by Parrys throw. Having made a modest 57 for two after ten overs, Birmingham lost wickets steadily thereafter, including that of Hain, caught behind off Livingstone for 28 and Matthew Wade bowled by Croft for 16. No other batsmen threatened to change the game.Excellent catches at short fine leg and deep midwicket by Tom Smith and Livingstone removed Laurie Evans and Rikki Clark in the 17th over, bowled by Lilley, but by then Birmingham needed a salvo of shots they had never really looked likely to fire. The very promising right-arm seamer Mahmood grabbed a couple more wickets and finished with 3 for 12.So there will be a party at Edgbaston next month but the hosts will not be present. Their lager will taste flat tonight while Lancashire can take the consolation of victory from what has been an annoying season. Immediate pleasure may be replaced by deeper professional irritations and suddenly it must seem more than eleven months since they paid homage to Bacchus at Edgbaston. They were happy in the haze of that hour but they must wait another season for a chance to repeat such frolics. RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- The referee who awarded Italy a goal after first whistling for a penalty in Saturdays Confederations Cup match against Brazil has admitted he made a mistake, FIFA said on Sunday. Referee Ravshan Irmatov of Uzbekistan blew his whistle to award Italy a penalty. A second later, as play continued, Giorgio Chiellini scored. Irmatov was seen pointing at the penalty spot but then giving a goal. "He has admitted he made a mistake," said FIFA spokesman Pekka Odriozola. Irmatov, a widely respected referee, had been expected to have a chance to referee the Confederations Cup final next Sunday but is now expected to be sent home along with his assistants, who also made two key errors in Saturdays game. Brazil won the match 4-2. Chiellinis goal brought the score to 3-2 to Brazil. Odriozola said Irmatov had not made any excuses about his mistake, but had explained it by saying, "while I was whistling for a penalty, out of the corner of my eye I saw the goal and I thought advantage should be played and gave the goal." In prestigious tournaments, refereeing teams rarely get the chance to make more than one major mistake. At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, English referee Graham Poll was sent home after showing three yellow cards to a Croatian defender, while compatriot Howard Webb was sent home when one of his assistants made an error at the European Championships in 2008. Webb recovered to referee the 2010 World Cup final in South Africa. Irmatov, having blown for a penalty, stopped play and should only have restarted it with a penalty. Allowing play to continue, even for half a second or so, was a "technical error," Odriozola said. If the referee had waited for a moment, the delay would have allowed him to let play develop and give the goal by playing an advantage. Instead, he blew for the penalty but then gave the goal, enraging Brazils players. The mistake was compounded by each assistant, Abduxamidullo Rasulov from Uzbekistan and Bakhadyr Kochikarov of Kyrgyzstan, failing to signal offside for two Brazilian goals. Both mistakes were close, but should have been spotted. For some match officials, the mistakes raise the question of whether referees and assistants who officiate in less competitive leagues -- like those in countries like Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan -- should be appointed to such high octane matches. One game after a miserable showing in Oklahoma City, Gay tied a career high with 41 points and the Sacramento Kings cruised to a 114-97 victory at the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night. After several relatively quiet weeks, there was an explosion of injuries in Week 11, with several players saying goodbye for the rest of the season. As difficult as those injuries may be to overcome, they have also created some opportunities for fantasy owners to bolster their teams. Lets take a look at some of the better waiver wire selections as we head into Week 12.---CARSON WENTZ (QB, Eagles)The rookie has cooled off after a strong start and hes only exceeded 300 passing yards twice all season. However, the Eagles rushing attack is down to third-stringer Wendell Smallwood and they have a sweet matchup against the Packers Monday night. Green Bay has allowed 22 passing touchdowns and a league-high 8.6 yards per pass attempt.COLIN KAEPERNICK (QB, 49ers)Kaepernick is averaging 23.4 fantasy points per game, which puts him in the top 10 among quarterbacks. There is no reason to worry about starting him if you need to replace Andrew Luck (concussion) for Week 12 or stash him as insurance for the fantasy playoffs. His rushing ability almost guarantees a high floor every week.TIM HIGHTOWER (RB, Saints)Mark Ingram is in the concussion protocol but even if he can play Week 12, there is a very good chance Hightower will still receive a healthy number of touches. Hes averaging 4.2 yards per carry and hes been very productive in the passing game. At the very least, he should be owned in all deep leagues and by anyone relying on Ingram.WENDELL SMALLWOOD (RB, Eagles)Ryan Mathews (knee) is likely to miss Mondays game; he was spotted in a knee brace after injuring his MCL. Darren Sproles (rib) could play but may be limited. That leaves Smallwood as the next man up. He runs hard and could see plenty of action in the red zone. Hes also a capable receiver, which makes him worth adding in point-per-reception leagues.CHRIS IVORY (RB, Jaguars)The injury to T.J. Yeldon (ankle) could force him to miss Week 12 and possibly more. The Jaguars will lean on Ivory, especially in the passing game. Hes averaging 7.1 yards per reception and will produce if given a significant volume of touches. Ivory is a strong pickup in PPR formats.MIKE GILLISLEE (RB, Bills)It looks as though LeSean McCoy will play Sunday despite a dislocated thumbb but thats not guaranteed.ddddddddddddGillislee should be owned regardless because when called upon, he averages 5.7 yards per carry and hes a very reliable receiver. McCoy owners need to own Gillislee, a solid RB2 if McCoy is limited.ELI ROGERS (WR, Steelers)Sammie Coates is playing with broken fingers and has caught exactly one pass since Week 5. Meanwhile, Rogers has received at least five targets per game since Week 3, which makes him the WR2. The Colts are allowing a league-high 285 passing yards per game with 19 touchdowns. Only six teams have allowed more passing TDs, which makes Rogers a solid play this week.MARQISE LEE (WR, Jaguars)Lee gets a steady stream of targets every week and has caught at least four passes in all but two games this season. Allen Hurns has all but disappeared, so Lee is clearly second fiddle to Allen Robinson. Lee is a solid WR3 in PPR formats.TYLER BOYD (WR, Bengals)After the injured A.J. Green (hamstring) left Sundays game, Boyd stepped in as Andy Daltons favorite target. He finished the day with six receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown. Green may return but it wont be this week, which leaves Boyd to feast on a Ravens team that has allowed 17 touchdowns and an average of 25.1 fantasy points to wide receivers.ZACH ERTZ (TE, Eagles)Ertz has received 26 targets over the last three games to become a safety blanket for Wentz. The Eagles schedule is peppered with favorable matchups for Ertz, making him a solid TE choice for the fantasy playoffs ahead. The Week 12 matchup with Green Bay is particularly good, as the Packers have allowed the second-most receiving yards to the TE position.C.J. FIEDOROWICZ (TE, Texans)The Texans TE has received at least seven targets in all but one of the last six games. Fiedorowicz is another TE with great matchups on the schedule ahead, as hell face the Packers, Colts and Bengals, whose defenses are among the most generous to the TE position. At worst, hes a terrific choice for playoff-bound teams looking for depth.---This column was provided to The Associated Press by the Fantasy Sports Network, http://FNTSY.com Cheap Jerseys Wholesale China NFL Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys Free Shipping Wholesale Jerseys 2020 Wholesale Authentic Jerseys Cheap Jerseys China Wholesale Authentic Jerseys ' ' '

MADRID -- The Spanish soccer federation on Wednesday fined Valencia 1,500 euros ($1,600) after water bottles were thrown at Barcelona players celebrating a goal in a Spanish league game last weekend. The federation also warned Valencia that it may close its Mestalla Stadium if similar incidents happen again. In its ruling, the federations competition committee condemned the attitude of the Barcelona players who turned to the stands to celebrate after Lionel Messis late winner on Saturday, but said nothing justifies a violent reaction by fans.It also criticized the exaggerated reaction of some Barcelona players after a bottle hit Neymar and Luis Suarez, and said that their actions exposed them to ridicule. The federation also praised Valencia for quickly identifying the fan who threw the bottle.Barcelona reacted quickly to the criticism to its players, saying that the accusations made by the committee were condemnable and abusive. The committee turns the victims into the guilty parties, Barcelona said in a statement. Barcelona players reacted by expressing their indignation for what they had to go through. The Catalan club said the committee should have limited its analysis to the facts instead of making unfair assumptions that are not within its scope. It said that from now on it expects the committee to analyze the team celebrations after every goal is scored in La Liga. Players are learning, theyre learning each other, theyre learning our system, but the coaching staff is learning on what kind of combinations of players work well, who can do what, what we need to teach and do a better job of.The game was part of the Las Vegas Invitational, as is Monday nights game against Northern Colorado. Then all of a sudden it did and he went on his own personal 8-0 run. ... Lauris efficient. Hes not going to take bad shots. That was about as easy of a 22-point night as Ive seen.Miller noted his team committed seven turnovers, just one in the first half. Point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright didnt have a turnover in his 30 minutes on the court.A pair of Arizona newcomers got the McKale Center crowd rocking with some high-flying plays. In consecutive plays, freshman Kobi Simmons had a backcourt steal and two-handed dunk and junior college transfer Keanu Pinder knoocked the ball away in Sacred Hearts backcourt and got the dunk on a lob pass from Parker Jackson-Cartwright at the other end, and Arizona led 43-18 with 4:17 left in the first half.ddddddddddddRistic had 10 rebounds in the first half, one shy of his career-best for a game. After three days and 39 rounds, Chris Thibideau had given up hope that he would hear his name called in the 40-round Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. He had been watching the draft on TV with some friends in a dormitory room Saturday at the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball. Resigned to the fact it didnt look good for him and a few teammates, Thibideau got up off the couch and planned to go get some dinner. Instead his buddies swarmed him in celebration. "As soon as I stood up my name got called and then the boys just jumped on me," Thibideau said Monday from Vauxhall, Alta. "I was like, No way. Because I didnt even hear my name. I just saw their reaction and everything." The San Diego Padres used their final pick of the 40-round draft to take the Canadian shortstop from Dartmouth, N.S. Thibideau was selected at No. 1,198 overall -- just 18 picks from the bottom. The Padres called about an hour after the selection was made to congratulate him and said theyd be back in touch soon. "I was just so overwhelmed as soon as my name was called," he said. "I guess the (phone) call just kind of ensured that I was drafted, that it wasnt an (error)." Thibideau is finishing off his school year while he continues training with teammates. He plans to return home for the summer and is taking a wait-and-see approach for the fall. The Padres have yet to make him an offer. "I got drafted really late so Im not expecting a lot," he said. Thibideau said he has committed to Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, Mich., and Midland College in Midland, Tex. "Its either going to be college or hopefully pro ball if I get what I want." Standing five foot 11 and weighing 175 pounds, Thibideau broke Vauxhalls all-time record this year with a .485 batting average. The 18-year-old has played second base since joining the Canadian junior team last fall. He was picked up by the national side in November and has made trips to Florida and the Dominican Republic with the squad. Thibideau said he tries to model his game after New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. "Hes been my role model since I was a little kid," he said. Left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny of Edmonton was the first Canadian selected in this years draft. The Chicago Cubs picked him at No. 41 last Thursday. The Toronto Blue Jays picked a pair of Canadians: right-hander Sean Ratcliffe of Ajax, Ont., in the 18th round (No. 535) and catcher Mike Reeves of Peterborough, Ont., in the 21st round (No. 625). In all, 19 Canadians were picked before Thibideaus name was finally selected. An afternoon he came close to forgetting turned into one hell always remember. "By the 39th round, I was just getting tired of watching and everything," he said. "I was about to call it quits and the boys just stayed around." Hes glad they did. http://www.authenticshoptitans.com/austin-johnson-jersey/ . The Atlanta Dream have weathered a few things this year. Such as the realization that Shoni Schimmel, whom they drafted in 2014 and had high hopes for, just wasnt going to work out at point guard. And a six-game losing streak. And the worry that veteran post player Sancho Lyttle might be lost for the season with a foot injury. They ended up trading Shimmel to New York for a draft pick, and then shipping a pick to Indiana for Layshia Clarendon, who is having a solid season in the Dreams backcourt. Atlanta pulled out of the losing skid -- which lasted from June 18 to July 3, including four road games -- and won five of eight before the Olympic break.Lyttle suffered the injury July 15 and had to miss playing in the Olympics for Spain, which won a silver medal. At first, it appeared that Lyttle wouldnt return to the WNBA in 2016 because of what was thought to be a broken bone in her foot. Then it was revealed she had a partially torn tendon that wouldnt require surgery, and coach Michael Cooper said she is day-to-day.She has started running, Cooper said. She hasnt practiced yet, but were very encouraged by her. I couldnt give you a date [for her return], but we hope its going to be pretty soon.Getting Lyttle back in the regular season would be a huge help to the Dream, who have a very challenging closing run before the playoffs. Atlanta is 14-13 and in fourth place in the WNBA standings, as just four teams have a winning record. Realistically, New York (19-8) is out of reach for Atlanta to catch, but now the Dream have to be concerned about others catching them.Chicago (13-13) and Phoenix (13-14) are on the Dreams heels, with Indiana also close at 12-14. Furthermore, six of their last seven games are against Western Conference teams, including Phoenix twice, Los Angeles, and defending WNBA champion Minnesota.Cooper still sounds optimistic about the Dream securing the fourth playoff spot, which would come with a first-round bye. The lower seeds -- No. 5 vs. No. 8 and No. 6 vs. No. 7 -- will compete in single-elimination games in the new playoff format, with the winners then facing the Nos. 3 and 4 seeds in single elimination.Even if Atlanta slides into the 5-8 range, which then would require two victories before advancing to a best-of-five semifinal series, Cooper can see a bright side to that, too, saying he thinks his team plays better when it doesnt have a lot of time off between games. What wouldnt be acceptable is the Dream not making the postseason at all, which was the case last year for just the second time in franchise history. That would take a total plunge over the last two weeks, and Cooper sounds confident that isnt going to happen. While Atlanta star Angel McCoughtry was with the U.S. Olympic team, the Dream players back home went through rigorous practices. They did a lot of running and conditioning work, Cooper said, because he wants the Dream to have endurance to get through this part of the season.McCoughtry won her second Olympic gold medal and brought back that triumphant vibe from Team USA.When shes around so many great players, with her being one of them, Cooper said of McCoughtry, theres an attitude, a mentality and a focus that you have to have. Since shes been back, Ive been asking her questions on different things that they did, and the things she says are things our players need to hear. And she needs to hear it, too.The biggest thing she teaches our other players is that she knows what it takes to win at the highest level. And its not just about one player being able to do that, but all of our players. Sometimes your Olympic player can be that glue that pulls everybody together.Atlanta lost its first game after the break, 90-82 at Chicago Friday, and then beat Connecticut 87-73 in Atlanta on Sunday. Then in a quirk in the schedule, the Dream had a whole week without games -- which they didnt really need after the Olympic break -- before they play Sunday in Atlanta against 11-16 Seattle, another team trying to make a surge into the postseason. When Cooper reflects on what went wrong during the Dreams losing streak in June and early July, he acknowledges that its just part of the big highs and big lows that Atlanta seems to experience. The teams confidence sometimes can plummet.I always tell our players winning is contagious, but so is losing, Cooper said. When there were games that we thought we should have won, but we lost, we tended to drop our heads. But you have to keep competing every game.In general, Cooper has been happy with 2016 additions Clarendon and post player Elizabeth Williams, whom the Dream also obtained in a trade. Hed like to get Clarendon (11.3 PPG, 3.1 APG) more time at shooting guard to take advantage of her perimeter scoring ability, but shes certainly filled a need. Williams (12.0 PPG, 7.6 RPG) has blossomed in her second season in the league after coming from Connecticut.Cooper says Tiffany Hayes is the Dream player who most reminds him of himself in his playing days, as she always given the toughest defensive assignments. But Hayes also has proven to be a consistent offensive presence; shes averaging a career-best 14.6 PPG in her fifth season in the league. The Dream know that as the calendar turns to September, its very tough from here on out. Theyll need McCoughtry (18.4 PPG) to be her Olympian self. Theyll have to clamp down defensively, which Cooper sees as the biggest key. Theyll need a little more from their bench. They also have to remember this is a franchise that, in its relatively short history (starting in 2008), has had a lot of postseason success, including three trips to the WNBA Finals. With so much attention, understandably, on Minnesota, Los Angeles and New York this season, its still worth keeping an eye on the Dream. If we have all our players and are playing the way I know we can play, Cooper said, I still feel we can compete with anybody in the league if were healthy.
