LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Isaiah Briscoe and DeAaron Fox each scored a career-high 21 points, Malik Monk added 16 and No. 2 Kentucky pulled away from Canisius early in the second half for a 93-69 victory Sunday night.Briscoe topped his previous high of 20 last December at UCLA behind 9-of-13 shooting that helped Kentucky (2-0) rally from a seven-point first half deficit to build a 44-35 halftime advantage.Freshmen and fellow guards Fox and Monk combined to shoot 11 of 24 en route to career scoring bests in their short careers, while 6-foot-10 newcomer Bam Adebayo had 14 points and 11 rebounds a game after a foul-plagued debut on Friday.Kentucky shot 51 percent from the field.Kassius Robertson had 16 points, Jermaine Crumpton 13 and Phil Valenti 12 for Canisius (0-1) in the coaching debut of Reggie Witherspoon.NO. 6 NORTH CAROLINA 97, CHATTANOOGA 57CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Joel Berry II scored 18 points to help North Carolina beat Chattanooga.Kennedy Meeks added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Tar Heels (2-0), who have won 15 straight home openers. Dickeys knuckleball was working Tuesday night, and the Blue Jays got just enough offense to pull out a win.Dickey threw seven solid innings, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion homered and Toronto beat the Houston Astros 2-1.Dickey (8-12) allowed a run and six hits with five strikeouts.A lot of swing and miss, Toronto manager John Gibbons said. He had good life on his knuckleball. Its one of those things that it comes and goes with him. He was aggressive with it and he threw a ton of strikes. Thats the key.He had allowed 18 runs -17 earned -- over his last three starts, all losses.Dickey said he was on top of a lot of knuckleballs Tuesday night, with different movement and different speeds.Ive been feeling great, Dickey said. Ive been feeling strong. My knuckleball velocities have been great, and I have been able to change speeds a lot. I think one of the differences tonight was fairly dramatic for me was just my command with it.Bautista hit his 300th career homer in the third to put Toronto up 1-0.Its always a friendly reminder that youve been doing this a long time and enjoyed some success, Bautista said about the milestone. You get happy about that. No doubt, but right now I think we have more important things to worry about. Ill get to enjoy that in the offseason.Encarnacion launched his 29th home run to lead off the fourth -- a monstrous shot that bounced off the railroad tracks at Minute Maid Park before landing in left field.Danny Barnes pitched the eighth before Jason Grilli pitched the ninth for his second save with Toronto and his fourth overall. The win snapped Torontos eight-game losing streak at Houston.Evan Gattis cut the lead to 2-1 with an RBI single in the seventh. Jose Altuve had three hits for Houston, which lost for the fourth time in five games. We have been in an offensive lull for a few games now, Houston manager A.J. Hinch said. Obviously, Dickey had his good knuckleball going tonight, and his ball was moving all over the place. The hitters werre coming back and remarking on how much action he had on his pitches.ddddddddddddLance McCullers (6-5) allowed two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings before leaving with discomfort in his right elbow. He will be evaluated Wednesday. We dont really know, McCullers said about the injury. Were just going to follow protocol and take it step by step and see where we are tomorrow. I felt a little discomfort, and out of precaution, I just had to get out of there.McCullers was replaced by Joe Musgrove, who struck out eight in 4 1/3 shutout innings. The eight strikeouts tied a major league record for strikeouts by a reliever making his big league debut set by Barry Jones for the Pirates on April 20, 1986.TRAINERS ROOMBlue Jays: SS Troy Tulowitzki (thumb) swung off a tee Tuesday and was feeling better, Gibbons said.Astros: RHP Luke Gregerson was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 28 with a left oblique strain. The Astros recalled IF A.J. Reed from Triple-A Fresno. ... OF Carlos Gomez (right hamstring) was back in the lineup Tuesday after missing the last four games. He went 1 for 4.ROSTER MOVESBlue Jays: Toronto recalled RHP Mike Bolsinger, who was acquired Monday from the Dodgers, and Barnes from Triple-A Buffalo. The Blue Jays optioned INF Ryan Goins and RHP Bo Schultz to Buffalo.Astros: Houston will recall RHP James Hoyt from Triple-A Fresno on Wednesday, and RHP Doug Fister will go on the three-day paternity list.UP NEXTBlue Jays: RHP Marco Estrada (6-4) will look for his second straight win Wednesday in the third of four games against the Astros. Estrada allowed four runs in his last outing Friday against Baltimore, the most runs he had allowed since May 14 when he was tagged for five runs.Astros: RHP Collin McHugh (7-7) will look to rebound after being tagged for eight runs on 10 hits in 1 2/3 innings Friday at Detroit. BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Twenty-eight Southeastern Conference student-athletes representing all 14 league institutions participated in a meeting of the SEC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) here Friday and Saturday. The student-athletes took part in leadership development activities and were also educated on the SEC legislative process, the conferences governance structure and roles of campus administrators. We had a tremendous two days with our SEC SAAC representatives, said Misty Brown, the SECs Director of Student-Athlete Engagement. They realized some of the talents they have through the leadership activities and learned about our structure and legislative process. They were very engaged. I think one of the key highlights of this meeting was Commissioner (Greg) Sankeys involvement. He truly cares and wants their feedback, and they were able to see how much he values their opinions. The focus of Fridays activities was leadership. The student-athletes were divided into groups and participated in various role play scenarios to help identify ingredients of being an effective leader.Saturdays discussions began with a Q&A and lengthy dialogue with Sankey regarding current matters in college athletics.Im interested in sports administration after college, so learning the background of what goes on in the SEC was very important for our wellness as athletes and students as well, said Vanderbilts Oren Burks, who will participate in SEC Football Media Days on Monday. Its powerful to see what people are doing on other campuses and how we can implement them on our own campus. We want to make an impact beyond our sports and in our community and society. Im excited to mobilize our athletes and to make a difference.Members of the SEC staff also reviewed NCAA and SEC legislation and led discussion on the NCAA autonomy and Division I shared governance and the SEC governance structure. Additionally, the student-athletes took part in a role play exercise with the purpose of understanding roles of campus administration. It was great to be able to come here and meet other student-athletes who go through what we go through on a daily basis, said Ole Miss softballs Alex Schneider. I take a lot of pride in representing my school, and being selected for that is a boost to my confidence. Its a great start for us to make changes for a conference thats the best and is only getting better. This conference allows student-athletes the best opportunities and prepares us to have all the tools that we need to be successful on the college level and in life. The 28 student-athletes who participated in the SEC SAAC summer meeting were:Alabama Szymmy Day, Mens Swimming and Diving Kat Hutson, VolleyballArkansas Heather Elswick, Gymnastics Eric Janise, Mens Track and FieldAuburn Kullen Hlawek, Gymnastics Cara Stricklin, GymnasticsFlorida Kevarrius Hayes, Mens Basketball Kourtney Keegan, Womens TennisGeorgia Haley Clark, Womens Basketball Jimmy Hicks, Mens Cross Country/Track and FieldKentucky Danielle Galyer, Womens Swimming and Diving Greg Hart, FootballLSU Sydney Ewing, Gymnastics Logan Rysemus, Mens Swimming and DivingOle Miss Peyton Moss, Mens Track and Field Alex Schneider, SoftballMississippi State Gabe Myles, Football Blair Schaefer, Womens BasketballMissouri Nolan Gromacki, Baseball Gabi Jacobs, Womens Track and FieldSouth Carolina Travis Morrin, Mens Swimming and Diving Taylor Vincent, Womens Swimming and DivingTennessee Patricia Forrester, Womens Swimming and Diving Bridgette Villano, VolleyballTexas A&M Kohl Anderson, Mens Track and Field Sarah Shaw, Womens SoccerVanderbilt Oren Burks, Football Kayla Moran, Womens Swimming Caleb Sturgis Jersey . 1 position. NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Titans slot receiver Kendall Wright is a healthy scratch Sunday because he missed a couple meetings, a source told ESPN.com.It was unclear whether Wright missed meetings entirely or was late.TitansOnline.com first reported the reason for the benching.Wright is the third receiver on a team that starts Rishard Matthews and Tajae Sharpe and plays an NFL-low 52 percent of its offensive snaps with two receivers or fewer. Wright still has the potential to be a big contributor. He had 133 receiving yards and a touchdown against Cleveland and 84 yards and a score against Jacksonville.Wright is in the final year of his rookie contract.ddddddddddddIn the spring of 2015, the Titans exercised a fifth-year option for this season that came with a $7 million base salary.Indications are hes unlikely to be re-signed for 2017.But the source said Wright has met with team brass and hes expected to contribute in the Titans final three games and in the playoffs, should they qualify. The 6-6 Titans need a win Sunday to keep pace in the AFC South. HOUSTON -- Houston Texans?coach Bill OBrien said he will not bench quarterback Brock Osweiler for backup Tom Savage. No, OBrien said when asked about starting Savage. Were going to come in here tomorrow, were going to correct mistakes, and move on to Green Bay.In the Texans 21-13 loss to the San Diego Chargers?on Sunday, Osweiler was 22-for-37 for 246 yards, with no touchdowns and three interceptions. He had a passer rating of 45.6, his lowest of the season.Though Osweiler did not throw a touchdown, he did score the Texans lone touchdown on a 1-yard run in the second quarter.I didnt play very good today, Osweiler said. I feel like I left a lot out there on the field, that I could have done much better. I could have done a much better job in certain situations.I really felt like those guys went out there and truly battled and played great football, and bottom line I need to play better for us to win. I feel like our team gave us the opportunity to win today and I didnt play up to what Im capable of doing, and thats on me and Ill get that cleaned up.Osweiler has struggled this season, completing just 59.5 percent of his passes for an average of 5.8 yards per attempt. He has 12 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions, 10 of which have come at home.I know weve had some ups and weve had some downs, and youd like to see steady improvement, but sometimes that doesnt take place, Osweiler said. Im very optimistic about what this team can accomplish because this is a damn good football team, and I let them down today. I need to play better. DALLAS -- Damian Lillard extended the Dallas Mavericks season-opening misery on the court. Dirk Nowitzkis aching Achilles continued it off the court.Lillard scored 27 of his season-high 42 points in the second half to lead the Portland Trail Blazers to a 105-95 victory over Dallas on Friday night, sending the Mavericks to the first 0-5 start in their 37-year franchise history.Nowitzki sat out the second half with a sore right Achilles and after the game, the team announced he would miss at least the next week. Its just uncomfortable and sore, Nowitzki said. So we decided to just shut it down. Im already not moving great at 38 as it is, so to be out there moving on one leg is not helping myself and its not helping the team. The Mavericks were also without Andrew Bogut (personal reasons), and Lillard and the Blazers took advantage. With backcourt mate C.J. McCollum saddled with foul trouble for most of the game, Lillard had 18 of Portlands 25 points during a 14-minute stretch of the second half.Sensational. Amazing. All-Star. MVP, McCollum said of Lillards performance. He definitely saved us. He saves us all the time.Mason Plumlee had 19 points and Al-Farouq Aminu added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Portland.J.J. Barea scored 23 points and Harrison Barnes had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Mavericks. The Blazers led by three at halftime despite shooting only 3 for 14 on 3-pointers in the first half, but started 7 for 8 from beyond the arc in the third quarter to open a 78-62 lead. However, Portland went 0 for 10 for the rest of the quarter and the Mavericks pulled to 79-76 entering the fourth. After Salah Mejris dunk closed the gap to one, Lillard scored two quick baskets at the other end, then made a 3 with 8:18 left to put the Blazers up 89-80. The Mavericks got no closer than six the rest of the way. When they got it to one, I knew coach was going to put me back in a little earlier than usual, Lillard said. As soon as he called my name, I ran to the scorers table and knew what needed to happen.TIP-INSTrail Blazers: Coach Terry Stotts earned his 300th win as a head coach. . Lillard has scored at least 27 points in each of Portlands first six games. ... McCollum played only 24 minutes due to foul trouble and scored nine points, but his driving lay-up with 4:34 to go gave the Blazers a 95-87 lead. It was his only basket after the first quarter. ... Shabazz Napier tied the score at 26-26 after one quarter when he stole the ball from Barea in the front court and made a 32-footer at the buzzer.Mavericks: Devin Harris has missed all five regular season games after suffering a right big toe sprain in the teams final preseason game. ... The Mavericks scored more points (six) on the fast break in the first quarter than their game average of 4.5, the NBAs lowest.MISSING BOGUTLillard, who earlier this week said Golden States defense was just not the same without Bogut this year, began exploiting Boguts absence in the Dallas defense in the second quarter with an attacking style of play.Lillard scored 10 points in the quarter, all of them a result of drives to the basket that ended in lay-ups or foul shots.Hes a huge difference, Lillard said. He makes a huge difference for them defensively and offensively as a big that can catch the ball in the middle of the defense and make plays. And he protects the paint on defense.RALLY THE RESERVESThe Mavericks sliced into Portlands third-quarter lead, playing mostly with Barea and four reserves in the game. Justin Anderson scored two inside baskets and fired up the crowd with a block of Aminus layup at the other end. They went hard. They had energy. They ignited the crowd, Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. Thats what this is going to take. Its a time when everyone is going to need to dig very deep.UP NEXTTrail Blazers: At Memphis on Sunday.Mavericks: Host Milwaukee on Sunday night. Air Max 95 Womens Sale . Aduriz headed home Markel Susaetas cross in the sixth minute to open the scoring at San Mames Stadium. Wozniacki has been more or less a non-factor in recent years. Once the top player in the world for 67 weeks, she has fallen to No. 74. To boot, she has won more than two straight matches only once this season -- and that came in the seasons first event, in Auckland. Her opponent, Kuznetsova, has had a nice resurgence this year, highlighted by a run to the Miami Open final in March. She played well at the Euro Slams and reached the quarterfinals of Cincinnati two weeks ago.No. 5 Milos Raonic vs. Ryan Harrison, second match on the Grandstand (Watch)The Canadian has been steadfast in his mission to take the next step. He opened the season with a title in Brisbane and reached three other finals, including Wimbledon. However, before the start of the US Open, Raonic announced he would not be working with John McEnroe for the seasons final Slam. Will it make a difference? He dominated Dustin Brown in his opener and now takes on American Ryan Harrison, who has dropped to No. 120 this season. Harrison has played only 15 matches in 2016 and has spent a goodd deal of time toiling in Challenger events.dddddddddddd Interestingly, Harrison and Raonic came up together and were both considered next-generation stars. Their careers have gone in opposite directions to say the least.No. 20 John Isner vs. Steve Darcis, second match on Luis Armstrong Stadium (Watch)For most of his 3-hour, 27-minute match Monday, it didnt look as if Isner would be playing in the second round. He was pushed to the five-set maximum by 18-year-old American Frances Tiafoe before taking the final tiebreaker. Isner called it one of the most dramatic matches of his career. The good news for Isner is that his next foe played an even longer first-rounder. Darcis was on the court for 4 hours, 11 minutes and upended Aussie Jordan Thompson in five sets. Clearly, whoever recoups quicker should have an advantage Wednesday.Shelby Rogers vs. CiCi Bellis, third match on the Grandstand (Watch)Rogers had her breakthrough moment at the French Open earlier this year, when she reached the quarterfinals. Shes a powerful, well-rounded player but has struggled since her run at Roland Garros. Shes only 2-5 in her past seven matches but had an impressive win against No. 27 Sara Errani on Monday. As for Bellis, she was New Yorks darling two years ago but has been relatively quiet since. Bellis is a different player now, someone whose priorities arent necessarily to play on the pro tour full time -- yet. She has verbally committed to Stanford, a decision she might want to reconsider. In four matches (including qualifying) at this years US Open, Bellis has dropped only a single set.No. 4 Rafael Nadal vs. Andreas Seppi, 7 p.m. ET on Arthur Ashe Stadium (Watch)Nadal didnt appear to have issues in a routine opening-round win, but in his postmatch news conference, he admitted his forehand, once one of the most dominant shots in the game, is lacking confidence. Nadal, who missed more than two months because of a wrist injury, has tinkered with this wing since coming back. Nadal has beaten the veteran Seppi in seven of their eight head-to-head matches, including five straight. DEKALB, Ill. -- Marin Maric scored 22 points on 11-of-12 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds and Northern Illinois defeated Olivet Nazarene 95-69 on Wednesday night.Aaric Armstead added 16 points, Levi Bradley 12, Justin Thomas 11 and Dontel Highsmith and Eugene German 10 each for the Huskies (5-5), who shot 58.8 percent in their first home game since Nov. 26 to snap a two-game losing streak.Northern Illinois came in ranked second in the Mid-American Conference at 16.1 forced turnovers per game and cashed in 21 Wednesday night for 31 points. The Huskies trailed 24-17 in the first half then outscored the Tigers 30-11 before the break. A 10-2 run to open the second half made it 57-37. The Huskies would lead by as many as 29.The NAIA Tigers, playing the game as an exhibition, shot 50 percent and were led by Tyler Crater with 12 points. Medhi Benatia Jersey . Andreas Johnson had a goal and two assists while Jacob de la Rose also scored for Sweden (2-0-0). Esa Lindell and Rasmus Ristolainen replied for Finland (1-1-0) Lindell opened the scoring for Finland just 41 seconds into the game, but the hosts quickly regained their composure and tied the score less than four minutes later on Wennbergs first of the game. Stefano Sturaro Jersey . McCarthy, a player who played some games in the second tier for Wigan at the start of this season, would go on to shine inside Evertons midfield, outplaying the man he was brought in to replace, on one of the grandest stages in English football. On Saturday, it was fitting that Manchester Uniteds most recent dagger into the chest was delivered by Frenchman Yohan Cabaye, a wonderfully gifted central midfielder who put on an outstanding effort for Newcastle at Old Trafford. http://www.juventusfcpro.com/Kids-Douglas-Costa-Jersey/ . The Americans, skipped by John Shuster, seized the advantage in the eighth end by scoring five points for a 7-3 lead. The Czechs pulled two back in the ninth, but Shusters team of third Jeff Isaacson, second Jared Zezel and lead John Landsteiner ended with another point to secure the last Olympic berth on offer. Federico Bernardeschi Jersey . Hazard cut in from the left and scored with a swerving right-footed shot for ninth goal of the season, which proved to be enough for the victory despite Chelseas forwards again lacking a cutting edge up front. Mattia Caldara Jersey . Hamelin, who triumphed in the 500 on Saturday, edged out Victor An of Russia by 0.021 seconds to maintain his lead in the World Cup standings. Russias Vladimir Grigorev was third. In the relay, Canada took control six laps from the finish line to beat Russia and the Netherlands. New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee said he had the aid of the wind at Seddon Park, as well as the support of his seam-bowling compatriots, as he claimed 6 for 80 in the first innings - his best-ever figures at home. Southees performance helped the hosts dismiss Pakistan for 216 and take a lead of 55 on the third day in Hamilton.Southee is familiar with Seddon Park, which is the home ground for his Northern Districts domestic team for whom he had taken a first-class five-wicket haul at the venue in early November. The wind that blows in from the North-West has also been a near-constant presence in the first three days of the Test. It helped Southee take balls away from right-hand batsmen, particularly early in Pakistans innings.I play a lot here, and its always nice because its one of the few grounds in the world where the wind actually assists a right-arm outswing bowler, Southee said. It was nice to pick up wickets, but its just good to contribute to the bowling performance. Bowling second on that pitch and taking a 55-run lead into the second innings just shows how well we did as a bowling group. Matt Henry didnt get a wicket but I think he bowled exceptionally well throughout - most of it was into the wind. He did a great job and deserves a lot more credit than his figures show.Southee had been especially effective with the new ball, removing openers Sami Aslam and Azhar Ali in the same over, before having Younis Khan caught behind to leave Pakistan 12 for 3. The away-swingers that took Azhar and Younis edges had been preceded by balls that seamed towards the batsmen. It is a ploy Southee has often used before. Each bowler has different strengths, and those are things that have worked for mme in the past, he said.dddddddddddd The new ball period was crucial for us. We knew if we took wickets with the new ball it put pressure back on them. You have plans for certain batsmen, and its nice when they do come off.Southee bowled 21 overs in the innings, but had conceded 32 of his runs in the space of three overs on day three. Sarfraz Ahmed plundered six fours off Southee early on day three to force him out of the attack - though the batsmen did also almost lose his wicket in the process.Personally I was a little bit off in that first spell, Southee said. The rest of the guys bowled pretty well throughout that first innings. There were five overs in the start of the day where we missed a little bit. They [Pakistan] had a positive mindset and put the bad balls away. The nature of Sarfraz is that hes an aggressive player. If you do miss, hes going to look to put it away. We did that a few too many times.Southee said New Zealand remained wary of Pakistans attack as they head into the third innings of the match, but said the surface had become much better for batting. Only one ball of the New Zealand innings was bowled on Sunday, before rain washed out the remainder of the days play. The forecast for the remaining days is promising, however. If you have positive intent and the bowlers are a little bit off, you can score on this pitch, Southee said. Its not a big ground. I think the pitch has settled down a bit. There will still be some assistance there with the new ball, but once it becomes reasonably old - we saw today how guys could get in and play their shots. NEW YORK -- Francisco Liriano is set to come off the disabled list and make his Pittsburgh Pirates debut Saturday against the New York Mets. The left-hander has been sidelined all season while recovering from a broken right arm. He made five minor league rehab starts -- three for Triple-A Indianapolis -- and struck out 33 with four walks in 21 2-3 innings. He was 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA. Pittsburgh planned to clear a roster spot after Friday nights game or early Saturday. Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said the 29-year-old Liriano wont be on a strict pitch count after throwing 98 on Sunday in his third outing for Indianapolis. "Were looking forward to getting him on a mound and see what the major league hitters tell us, him getting back in this environment, and see where it goes," Hurdle said. The team hopes Liriano can help fortify a rotation minus injured James McDonald and left-hander Jonathan Sanchez, who was released Wednesday. Liriano and the Pirates agreed on a $12.75 million, two-year contract in December. But on Christmas, the day before he was supposed to fly to Pittsburgh and sign the deal, he broke his arm at home in the Dominican Republic. Liriano said he was injured when he slapped a door in his house. The club revised its offer to Liriano and also signed Sanchez and Jeff Karstens to compete for jobs in the starting rotation. A restructured contract was completed in February that guaranteed Liriano $1 million this year. But he was given the opportunity to earn $13.75 million plus award bonuses over two seasons in an incentive-laden deal. Liriano has never pitched in the National League. He went a combined 6-12 with a 5.34 ERA for the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox last season. He was an All-Star for the Twins in 2006, when he finished third in AL Rookie of the Year voting, but hasnt been quite the same since undergoing Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow in November 2006. Liriano won 14 games and the AL comeback player of the year award in 2010 before throwing a no-hitter for Minnesota in May 2011, but hes been hampered by control problems. "All the information we were able to gather, we felt this was a very good opportunity for him and for us," Hurdle said. "We believe hes in a very good point in time in his career to have a big bounce-back." http://www.eaglesrookiestore.com/Eagles-Jay-Ajayi-Jersey/ . Tracey comes to the Blue Bombers after spending over a decade with Queens University. Most recently he was the schools assistant football coach. As the focus in womens basketball is about to shift to the Rio Olympics, lets list 10 quick observations about this WNBA season thus far:1. Los Angeles appears on a mission. 2. But so does Minnesota. And maybe New York, too? 3. Seattle rookie Breanna Stewart is doing super-Stewie stuff as a pro, too. 4. Its going to be a heck of an MVP race, right to the finish. 5. Indianas Tamika Catchings will retire without looking like its time for her to retire. 6. Seattles Sue Bird gives the best jersey-retirement party speeches. 7. Diana and the Refs: A Love Story is a movie that will never be made ... unless its a satire. 8. Nobody is that sure which team among those in the East is the second-best behind New York. Or third-best, or fourth-best, or fifth-best, or ... you get the picture. Right now, though, standings-wise its Atlanta. 9. Unless something unexpected happens, San Antonio will have the worst record in 2016. 10. WNBA players definitely keep up with current events. The league is celebrating its 20th season and has been a showcase in particular for the Sparks, who are 21-3. But the defending champion Lynx are right behind at 21-4. Those two are the front-runners for getting the top two seeds in the new playoff format, in which the best eight teams by record make the postseason, regardless of conference. The 18-8 Liberty are the only other team now that would seem to have a realistic chance of taking one of those two top spots -- which means automatic advancement to the league semifinals.New York star Tina Charles is the leagues top scorer (21.4 PPG), followed by last years MVP Elena Delle Donne of Chicago (21.2), Los Angeless Nneka Ogwumike (19.6) and Minnesotas Maya Moore (19.4). Not coincidentally, those four are in the hunt for the MVP as well, as is Ogwumikes teammate Candace Parker. Now, lets take a little more in-depth look at five of the things that have stood out about what weve seen to this point in the WNBA.Whats not hot in Phoenix? The Mercury are two games below .500 and will have to battle for a playoff spot. Uh ... what? Seriously? Yep, believe it or not, that really is where Phoenix is at the break.Admittedly, not everyone agreed with the leagues general managers about picking Phoenix as the preseason favorite. But most people did expect the team would be contending near the top of the WNBAs combined standings. Instead, the 10-14 Mercury have been the leagues biggest surprise ... but not in a good way. With Diana Taurasi (the aforementioned ref antagonist) and Penny Taylor back, this was supposed to be something like the 2014 Mercury all over again, or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof. But its been a team that too often has not been able to summon a sense of competitive urgency.Phoenix is tied for second with Minnesota in scoring average at 85.8 PPG, just behind Los Angeles 85.9. The key problem, though, is the Mercurys defense. Theyre allowing an average of 86.1 points per game, which is second-worst in the league behind Dallas (88.1). That is the highest-scoring average that Phoenix has allowed since the 2012 season in which the Mercury went 7-27 and were accused by some league followers of tanking in hopes of landing the No. 1 pick for Brittney Griner in the 2013 draft (they got her).Contrast this with the Mercurys 2014 championship season, when they allowed foes just 74.1 points per game.Six Mercury players will be competing in the upcoming Olympics: Taurasi and Griner (United States), Taylor (Australia), Marta Xargay (Spain), Sonja Petrovic (Serbia) and Lindsey Harding (Belarus). Then, it will be back to WNBA work, trying to make a playoff run. Phoenix unquestionably is talented, and it worries other teams that the Mercury could flip the switch and really be dangerous. But so far, their talent has not added up to a winning season.Dont put us in rocking chairs just yetCatchings and New Yorks Swin Cash will retire when thiis season ends.dddddddddddd But theyre going to be running across the finish line.Catchings is the Fevers leading scorer (13.7 PPG) and second-leading rebounder (4.5 RPG). The Fever are 12-12 and trying to make the playoffs for the 12th consecutive year. What would have been an emotional farewell season any way for Catchings has been even more so with the death of her beloved college coach, Tennessees Pat Summitt. Yet Catchings doesnt look like a player riding slowly off into the sunset. She will exit the WNBA still as a key impact player, leaving totally on her terms. As for Cash, her stats are not what they were in her peak years, but that isnt how to measure her. This is: Shes still a WNBA starter and one of the true emotional leaders for the Liberty, a franchise that is still attempting to win its first title. And after their playing careers are over, look for Catching and Cash to still make an impact in the sport.Speaking of still going strong ...Bird is not retiring this year, thank goodness. Although as she reminded everyone at Lauren Jacksons Storm jersey retirement ceremony earlier this month, her exit likely is not all that distant in the future. But while Bird, Catchings and Cash are all still in the WNBA together, please take time to appreciate these three. Theyve all been such a big part of womens basketball history.Bird, who turns 36 in October, is the wily veteran on a Seattle team with young stars like Stewart and Jewell Loyd. Yet ol No. 10 is still showing these whippersnappers a thing or two. In fact, Bird statistically is having a season thats just about as good as any in her storied career. Shes started every game for the 9-15 Storm, averaging 32.2 minutes. Her scoring averages of 12.5 points and a league-best 6.0 assists are highlights, as is her 44.1 percent shooting from 3-point range. Birds best percentage for a season from behind the arc is 45.9 in 2012, which puts this year in further perspective. And in August, she, Catchings and Taurasi will play in their fourth Olympics.A true shooter keeps shootingNo player embodies that slogan more than Los Angeles guard Kristi Toliver, who perhaps this year will add a WNBA championship to the NCAA title she won with Maryland a decade ago.Tolivers famous game-tying 3-pointer in the 2006 national championship game is one of womens basketballs most unforgettable shots. Shes taken countless treys since then. But the ones shes hitting this season could end up making a big difference in whether the Sparks get back to the WNBA Finals for the first time since they lost to Detroit back in 2003.Toliver is second in the WNBA in both 3-pointers made this season (63 of 139) and in percentage from behind the arc (45.3). Sparks coach Brian Agler also points out that Toliver has elevated her game on the defensive end, and he doesnt hand out defensive praise lightly.Ogwumike and Parker are the top two stars for the Sparks, of course. But Toliver, who leads the team in minutes played (32.5 per game) and is the third-leading scorer (14.0 PPG), is having a terrific season, too.But could it ultimately end up a rerun of 2015?Yes, it could: The Lynx are just as big a threat to win it all as they were a year ago. They will be the most represented WNBA squad on the U.S. Olympic team, with Moore, Seimone Augustus, Lindsay Whalen and Sylvia Fowles playing, and Cheryl Reeve coaching as an assistant to Geno Auriemma. The Lynx felt a bit slighted by the leagues GMs, who picked Phoenix to win. And now Minnesota might feel a lot of the attention in the WNBA thus far has gone to the Sparks. But with Moore once again cranking out another fantastic season and Minnesotas core group remaining so cohesive and effective, seeing the WNBA Finals in Minneapolis again would be no surprise at all. OXFORD, Miss. -- Chad Kelly threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score to lead No. 23 Mississippi over No. 12 Georgia 45-14 on Saturday. The Rebels (2-2, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) dominated every phase of the game, building a lead of 31-0 by halftime and 45-0 by midway through the third quarter.Ole Miss broke a 10-game losing streak in the series dating to 1996.Georgia (3-1, 1-1) lost its first game under new coach Kirby Smart and looked overmatched. To make matters worse, star running back Nick Chubb injured an ankle in the second quarter and didnt return. It was an impressive win for the Rebels, who finally built a big lead they didnt give away. Ole Miss led Florida State by 22 points and Alabama by 21 this season before losing both games.Kelly was sharp from the opening series, completing 18 of 24 passes and adding a 41-yard touchdown run right through the middle of the Georgia defense. Tight end Evan Engram led the Rebels with six catches for 95 yards.Brian Herrien led the Bulldogs with 78 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Freshman quarterback Jacob Eason had a tough day, completing just 16 of 36 passes for 137 yards and an interception.THE TAKEAWAYGeorgia: The Bulldogs were an interesting bunch after three straight wins to start the season, but after being stomped by the Rebels, it doesnt look like Georgia is anywhere near being an elite team.Ole Miss: The Rebels needed this one after blowing big leads in losses to Florida State and Alabama. Ole Miss proved it still can be a force in the SEC this season despite a tough September.POLL IMPLICATIONSGeorgia: The Bulldogs probably tumble in the rankings after being outplayed in pretty much all aspects of the game.Ole Miss: Look for the Rebels to jump a few spots.UP NEXTGeorgia: The Bulldogs host Tennessee next week in an SEC Eastern Division showdown.Ole Miss: The Rebels host Memphis in a non-conference game.-----Follow David Brandt on Twitter: www.twitter.com/davidbrandtAP . ANAHEIM, Calif. -- If Jered Weaver is in his final week with the Los Angeles Angels, the veteran right-hander will try to finish his 11 seasons the right way.And if he returns to his only big-league team next year, Weaver has a strong finish to build upon.Weaver pitched five scoreless innings of one-hit ball before leaving with lower-back tightness, and the Angels beat the Oakland Athletics 2-1 on Monday night when Yunel Escobar scored on Albert Pujols weak grounder in the eighth.Weaver retired Oaklands first 14 batters before Danny Valencias fifth-inning single, using his deception and control to flummox the As in what could be his penultimate start at the Big A. The stalwart of the Angels rotation since 2006 doesnt yet have a contract for next season, but he has strung together a series of solid starts down the stretch. Its a little weird, Weaver said. Its different, something Ive never gone through or dealt with before, not knowing what the future holds. It was a little emotional coming down the tunnel here.Weaver was removed after just 71 pitches when his back tightened up on a 90-degree night in Anaheim, but he doesnt think the injury will stop him from pitching Sunday in the Angels season finale. After the game, Weaver said he plans to reflect on his past and future this week. He didnt specify whether he is contemplating retirement if the Angels dont want him back.My body is feeling a lot better, minus the little setback today, Weaver said. Its a decision that Ill have to make in the next couple months, at least. Itll be interesting to sit down with the wife and talk about it and see whats going to happen.Mike Trout hit his 29th homer early in the Angels fifth victory in six games.Stephen Vogt homered in the sixth inning for the last-place As, who have lost six of seven. After Sean Manaea largely shut down Los Angeles for seven innings, the Angels broke through against Ryan Dull (5-5). Escobar singled, advanced on Kole Calhounss double and scored when Pujols got his 119th RBI on a 45-foot grounder back to Dull, who bobbled it just enough to stop him from throwing home.ddddddddddddJ.C. WINNIPEG - Theyre bruised, battered and badly in need of a fix for an ailing offence. It was bad enough that coach Tim Burke skipped a planned practice for his Winnipeg Blue Bombers Monday. The Bombers have lost linebacker Terrell Parker for the rest of the season with a torn knee ligament (ACL). The second-year pro injured his knee in Saturdays 25-20 loss to Hamilton. Defensive back Desia Dunn will miss at least two weeks with a hamstring injury. Receiver Chris Matthews, running back Anthony Woodson, defensive back Alex Suber, defensive end Alex Hall and offensive lineman Glenn January will all skip practice when it resumes Tuesday. Theyre hurting but Burke says he expects most will play Friday. The Bombers have a short week to prepare for the Toronto Argonauts and Burke says Toronto is likely the toughest team they will have faced so far this season. "Id rather have them be healthy and fresh going into the game," he said. When they do practice he said theyll start by focusing more on preparing for Toronto rather than going at it hard against each other. The Bombers arent the only team with problems early in this CFL season. Every team in the CFL East currently sits at 1-2. But Burke says they have a lot of work to do to fix an offence that is clearly struggling if they want more wins. "I know everybody likes to focus on the quarterback but theres a lot of things going wrong," he said. He ticked off wide receivers who arent moving the way they should and an offensive line that isnt learning from its mistakes. As for critics who suggested the Bombers rely more on their ground game in their most recent 25-20 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Burke says forget it. "We had five possessions in the third quarter. We opened three of the five possessions with runs and we gained a grand total of minus four yards." Quarterback Buck Pierce was sacked six times and the one bright spot was the Bombers managed to curb the turnover problem that plagued their offence in their first two games. "Id rather not have a quarterback get sacked so many times," said the coach when asked what hed like to cure next. "Id want to hit the open receivers. Thats usually a pretty good way to start." Burke suggested there will be roster moves if things dont change and he suggested hes already planning one, although he refused to name the player. "Everybodys got to pick up their game on the offensive side of the ball (and) its not just one guy its many," he said. "Everybodys got to take responsibility for their actions." On the plus side, with Dunn out, Burke said Johnny Sears has now fully recovered and will be able to dress Friday against Toronto. DETROIT -- The Kansas City Royals probably would have won this game without Wade Davis -- but having their closer back on the mound was still a comforting sight.Davis pitched a perfect ninth inning in his return from a strained forearm, and the Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 8-4 on Saturday night. Davis was activated from the disabled list before the game, and Kansas City went ahead and used him in a non-save situation. It felt really good, Davis said. Felt smooth, felt easy -- a little bit erratic as far as where the ball is going, but other than that, it felt pretty good.Salvador Perez singled, doubled, scored a run and drew two of Kansas Citys seven walks. The Royals scored four runs in the first inning off Mike Pelfrey, who didnt make it out of the second. Every hitter in Kansas Citys lineup scored exactly once except right fielder Paulo Orlando.Danny Duffy (5-1) allowed four runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings for Kansas City. He struck out seven and walked one.Ian Kinsler homered for Detroit, but the Tigers were facing a significant deficit before they even came up to bat for the first time. Pelfrey (2-9) allowed five runs, four hits and four walks in 1 2/3 innings.I was terrible. Didnt get ahead, and half the guys I faced either got walks or hits. I was terrible, Pelfrey said. Alex Gordon opened the scoring with a bases-loaded single, and Pelfrey then hit Orlando to force in another run. Cheslor Cuthberts RBI single made it 3-0, and Christian Colon brought home another run with a groundout. After allowing a single and two walks in the second, Pelfrey was pulled with the bases loaded and two outs. Reliever Dustin Molleken immediately threw a wild pitch that made it 5-1.Kinslers two-run homer in the third cut the lead in half, but the Royals added three more runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Colon, Jarrod Dyson and Eric Hosmer.WAITING HIM OUTThe Royals arent a team that walks much, but they adjusted when it became clear Pelfrey was having control problems. We put in some good at-bats there in the first inning, Hosmer said. TSNs Jack Armstrong offers his thoughts on Game 7 in the Pacers-Heat series, the road ahead for new Raptors GM Masai Ujiri, the new head coaches in Charlotte and Sacramento, the abilities of Knicks head coach Mike Woodson and the distinguished career of Grant Hill. 1. Game 7 - Pacers at Heat: Im thrilled. A little drama and suspense. We havent had as much as wed like this spring in the NBA Playoffs. Got it for this one. Lots of talk (deservedly so) about the offensively inept play of Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, the play of the Pacers inside and of course, LeBron James. With all that being said, to me the area I will zero in on Monday night above all else will be the Pacers offence vs the Heat defence in a do-or-die road Game 7. Im a huge believer in the fact that your defence and rebounding carry you consistently throughout the season because offence comes and goes. The Pacers defence and rebounding has been sound. The Heat, when theyre at their absolute best, play defence with a purpose that defines quickness, ball pressure, organized help and recovery, tight rotations and dont let you get comfortable at all. They force you to take low percentage shots, force turnovers and get the high-octane running game going with dunks and 3s on the back end. I havent seen enough of that. If Im the Heat, its all about the defence and rebounding, grit and energy and the offence will feed off that. If they do that at home, theyve got a great chance to win. The Pacers must exhibit offensive toughness. To win huge road games, you have to take care of the ball, control the tempo and have wonderful shot discipline and shot-making ability late in the shot clock. This is the game within the game that will give me the sense throughout the night of how the personality of the event will be defined. Enjoy! 2. Masai Ujiri (Raptors): Congrats to the new Raptors GM. Lots of heavy lifting ahead. In his brief career as the Nuggets GM, he has shown the willingness to be a bold/aggressive executive, yet has the attributes of a thoughtful and patient makeup that suits him well. Hell need to plot a course that benefits the organization in the years to come, getting it on a consistent playoff path (in the weaker Eastern Conference compared to the West that he dealt with in Denver) rather than worrying about short-term gratification that feels good but doesnt lay the proper long-term foundation. Simply put, decisions are made with the best interests of the organization in the long-term at all times and gradually you begin to get it turned around. Do whats right in your mind and heart after careful deliberation and never cave into the need for popularity and approval. Those characteristics are vital and having known him for a while, my sense is that he will stay very focused on what his vision is and not allow himself to lose his way. As Ive said it countless times before, its a tough job but the Toronto franchise has immense potential as an NBA city and has greatly under performed for 18 years. Do it right and it will get right. 3. Steve Clifford (Bobcats) and Michael Malone (Kings): Both guys hired as NBA head coaches this past week. Ive known both of them for a long time and consider them friends. I was thrilled for both of them. Theyve paid their dues big-time and are more than ready. As is the case most times when youre 0-0 as an NBA head coach, you normally dont get a good job, you get a challenging one that will do a number (not a good one) on the start of your career W-L record. The way I judge performance is how they lay the groundwork/foundation for gradual/incremental improvement that sets their franchises up for the turn-around in a few years. Rome wasnt built in a day and the Bobcats and Kings surely wont be either. Thats not an excuse in any way, shape or form for Clifford and Malone, instead its the reality of the uneven, and many times unfair, business of coaching. Certain jobs are a lot more messed up than others. Im a huge believer in the fact that you see if its working or not in Year 3. Im convinced that these two guys will absolutely work their tails off and so will their players (or theyll be traded/waived) and youll start to see the process of creep-crawl-walk-run in front of you. Doubt theyll be off and running in two years but by Year 3, theyll be on their feet and competing with folks. They will impact positive change. They wont be out-worked by anyone nor will they be out-coached, I can assure you of that. Good basketball men. 4. Mike Woodson (Knicks): Knicks fans are obnoxious. Some folks are wondering if hes the right coach for them. Seriously? 18 wins and only six losses last year after taking over for Mike DAntoni and 54 wins and Atlantic Division Title this Year. Havent had one of those since the 90s. Back-to-back playoff berths. He built in Atlanta and hes built in New York. Is he Phil Jackson or Red Auerbach? No. Is he a good coach/leader? Definitely. Does he have a championship roster? Far from it. Miami, Indiana, Chicago (when healthy) and possibly Brooklyn (with a stable coaching situation) are better. He might be in a similar situation in New York that he was in Atlanta; yery good team for short stretches but not good enough over the long haul. 5. Grant Hill (Clippers): Announces his retirement. Awesome NCAA player at Duke. Terrific early career with Detroit and then injuries did him in. Battled back and had a nice finish to his career. Class act - gentleman - team player - professional. Great Run. Has lots to be proud of. Im sure hell be heard from in a big way in retirement. Has got it. Sharrif Floyd Jersey .1 million pounds ($61.2 million) on Saturday, giving the beleaguered English Premier League champions a major lift. Pat Elflein Jersey . Roman Josi had a goal and an assist to lead the Predators to a 4-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on Monday night. http://www.officialauthenticvikingsshop.com/authentic-chuck-foreman-jersey.html .C. Lions has come to an end. Banks told TSN on Jan 2 that he had no interest in playing out the option year of his contract with the Lions in 2014, and he again made that clear in a conversation with Lions GM Wally Buono last week. Nick Easton Jersey . Jordan Lynch, the all-purpose Heisman Trophy finalist from Northern Illinois, failed to make it into that exclusive club. Chris Doleman Jersey . -- PGA TOUR Canada member Steve Saunders took a three-stroke lead Saturday in the Web. ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Although Adrian Beltre hasnt played for the Dodgers since 2004, he still lives in Los Angeles. Maybe thats why the Texas Rangers slugger feels so comfortable just down the I-5 freeway at the Big A.Beltre broke a tie with his 440th homer in the eighth, and Yu Darvish pitched three-hit ball into the seventh inning of the Rangers second win in six games, 2-1 over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night. The AL-leading Rangers (84-58) are coasting toward their fourth division title and fifth playoff berth in seven seasons, but they emerged from a five-game lull with a strong effort in Anaheim. After the clubs traded runs in the seventh to break up a scoreless duel between Darvish and Tyler Skaggs, Beltre connected for his 27th homer off J.C. Ramirez (1-1), sending a line drive over the fence in left-center.I was looking for a pitch I could drive, and that was exactly what I got, Beltre said. It was pretty much middle.Beltres homer was his 38th against Los Angeles, the sixth-most by an Angels opponent. Only Alex Rodriguez and Rafael Palmeiro have more RBI at Angel Stadium as an opponent than Beltres 69.Home cooking, Beltre said.Mitch Moreland doubled and scored on Elvis Andrus seventh-inning single to break open a scoreless game for the Rangers, who boosted their AL West lead to 9 1/2 games over Houston.Andrelton Simmons drilled a tying triple in the seventh for the Angels, who have lost three straight.Matt Bush (7-2) struck out Jett Bandy to strand Simmons on third. Sam Dyson pitched the ninth for his 33rd save, giving up a leadoff single to Mike Trout before retiring Simmons on a groundout with two Angels on base.Darvish and Skaggs traded zeros for the first six innings in the opener of Los Angeles 10-game homestand.Darvish bounced back sharply from a rough start last week, limiting the Angels to two singles in the first six innings while striking out nine. When I was warming up, I wasnt feeling good, Darvish said. When I got deeper iinto the game I was able to make adjustments.dddddddddddd Im very happy about that.Skaggs had one of his best starts since his return to the majors from Tommy John surgery, giving up two hits and two walks over six scoreless innings. The left-hander struck out eight and allowed just one runner to reach third base.Ive been out for so long, so this is kind of the middle of the season for me, Skaggs said. I need to get up to 100 pitches (and) seven or eight innings. I need to stop throwing as many pitches as I do. But theres progress.Texas finally broke through against Mike Morin in the seventh, but only because Angels fill-in left fielder Jefry Marte took an unadvisable route on Morelands leadoff fly and allowed an apparently catchable ball to land for a double.Simmons evened it moments later with an exceptional nine-pitch at-bat. He battled out of an 0-2 count before sending Darvishs 95th and final pitch to the wall in right-center for a triple, scoring Marte from first.TRAINERS ROOMRangers: 2B Rougned Odor left the game with hamstring tightness. Texas manager Jeff Banister called the move precautionary, and said he hasnt decided whether to rest Odor on Saturday. ... OF Shin-Soo Choo made the trip for Texas, taking batting practice Friday. His left arm was broken by a pitch last month.Angels: RHP Garrett Richards could throw off a mound within two weeks. The Angels former ace hasnt pitched since May, when an injured elbow ligament was discovered. He has managed to avoid Tommy John surgery so far.UP NEXTRangers: Cole Hamels (14-5, 3.25 ERA) has given up 13 runs in his last two starts, raising his ERA from 2.67.Angels: Daniel Wright makes his debut with the club. Los Angeles claimed the right-hander off waivers from Cincinnati last Sunday. He went 0-2 with a 7.62 ERA for the Reds this season, his first in the big leagues. England head coach Eddie Jones has accused Wales of complacency in a damning assessment of their 33-30 victory over Japan. It took an 80th-minute drop goal from replacement fly-half Sam Davies to defeat the brave blossoms at the Principality Stadium and former Japan coach Jones pulled no punches in his verdict on Rob Howleys men. There will be some tears. The Japanese cry when they win and they cry when they lose, so there will be plenty of tears, Jones said. Its a fantastic result for them and Wales were obviously complacent again. You look at the side Wales put out, they shouldnt be winning by three points against a Japanese team that has seven or eight new caps. And those new caps are coming out of company rugby. You or I could play company rugby. Its not a good result for Wales. In Norway at that moment, she was literally and figuratively a long way from her desired destination. The sheeps head was dinner; the dish a longstanding part of Norwegian cuisine.I dont know that I miss it, but it was kind of a neat experience, Short said of that culinary adventure she had while playing professionally overseas. Surprisingly, I kind of liked it.If the current moment is about where the national team goes next, it also encompasses how those who hope to answer that question got here. For the past two weeks, the national team searched for the pieces to complement the familiar and help solve puzzles posed by the 2019 World Cup and 2020 Olympics. She also saw a once rebellious young girl grow into the woman who would be honored, after Letita passed away in 2012, with the Honda Inspiration Award, given each year to only one female athlete across all NCAA divisions and sports. For Short, the path to the national team included not only the Scandinavian sojourn but three knee surgeries before it. A regular in the U.S. youth national team system, Short enjoyed a standout college career at Florida State and was the fifth pick in the 2013 NWSL draft. For now, Short isnt the product of her story; she is a rare left-footed option to play on the left side. Gilliland is a technically raw but athletically gifted prospect at outside back. Some of the newcomers left little doubt they will be back, Short is among them after a pair of starts in defensive capacities. The same goes for goalkeeper Jane Campbell, midfielder Andi Sullivan and forward Lynn Williams. Abby Dahlkemper, Ashley Hatch and Kealia Ohai played too sparingly to offer hints as to their fortunes, Ohais record-quick debut goal after 48 seconds on the field notwithstanding. Not at this moment. Maybe not ever. But they made it this far. And with Allie Long just the most recent example, after the 29-year-old claimed an Olympic starting spot following years in purgatory, that can be enough to keep some traveling an uncertain road.Gillilands purple-streaked hair is, in her own words, a hot mess. ad concussion issues in his care

After three weeks of football you are at the point as a team where you understand what you do well and what you need to improve upon as fast as possible. And thats never so clear right now than in Montreal. On special teams, not bad, defence pretty good, but this years Alouettes have major problems moving the ball when they have the ball. Now I will be the first one to say that the quality of the players is why teams win or lose. But good coaching by design and teaching can make a big difference. How else do you explain the fact that it is almost the identical personnel from last year to this year yet last years offence was amazingly productive and this years is amazingly inefficient? The opening drive for Montreal went for 11 plays, 81 yards, six-and-a-half minutes off the clock and a touchdown. But that was it. For after that blur of success the two-and-out plays became the consistency. So what has to happen? Kinda simple. Either the Als players have to adapt and master the offence run in Montreal or the Als offensive staff has to adapt to the players on offence and run what has worked for the players in the past. In college football it is a one-way street. The coach and coaches have a system in all three levels of football that they believe works because of previous success and the players run that system. Pro football is a bit different. There is more give and take, more communication to create success based on a coaching philosophy and the players ideas. Now I am not saying to run the Marc Trestman offence in full right now for the rest of the season. But I am saying what you have now is not working so it is time to incorporate some of it based on your Hall of Fame quarterbacks success experiences. With Calgary, two aspects of football became conversation points. First, how about Brad Sinopoli. A three-year quarterback becomes a productive receiver. These things dont happen very often and its significant as Sinopoli was looking at an experience of football at quarterback, now he has a chance for a career as a wide receiver. The second is Kevin Glenn or Drew Tate? Three injuries in a season plus two games has to be a concern for Tate. And its an opportunity for Glenn. It may be time for Glenn to take over the show. It will be time if Tate comes back and plays again yet cant finish a game he begins as a quarterback. Montreal has problems, Calgary has solved a few, Saskatchewan has none. I thought, okay, home opener in Edmonton a definite win as the Eskimos had made so many changes. Then Week 2 back home, Taylor Field, all that energy, definite win even though Calgary had played so well before. Then Week 3, on the road, Dome in Toronto, Argos coming off loss: no way. Boy was I wrong. Between Durant, Sheets, Dressler and others the Riders took the game over in the last three quarters. No doubt the Jamie Robinson interception for a touchdown that became a pass interference penalty changed the game, but so did Kory Sheets and his 178 yards rushing. The Riders have the Ticats home and away and football logic says they may be 5-0 going into their sixth game at Calgary with the Bye week before. Is Toronto a good 1-2 team or a team with a long way to go? I lean toward the latter, a team with a lot to improve upon. Two rookie players side-by-side on defence in Robinson at corner back and Jackson at defensive back have to improve fast for Toronto to activate the dominance they had last year. Two rookies side-by-side is a big risk that did not work out last Thursday night. With Winnipeg at Hamilton in Guelph, for Hamilton to win with two games against Saskatchewan on the horizon was immense. Could you imagine going to Regina at 0-3 as compared to 1-2? Better pass rush and better running game with Chevon Walker. Hes not just fast but can make people miss in tight areas. Walker can only get better and should remain the starter. Yet, a week ago it was Hugh Charles with a long touchdown run and last Saturday it was Chad Simpson with the same against the Tiger-Cats. And pass protection must improve as Winnipeg has seven more quarterback sacks. With 24 of 42 players either in their first of second year of CFL football, here in 2013 the Ticats are going through a gigantic learning process. How fast the new players learn and adapt will determine a good or difficult season. Now Winnipeg, well I thought it was more of Montreals inability than Winnipegs ability on defence that led to last weeks win. Kind of proven true this week. Still here is the list of special team mistakes for the Bombers in Week 3. 1. Mishandled snap on extra point. 2. Two kick-offs out of bounds that gave Hamilton the ball on the 45. 3. No yards penalty 4. A single on a misplayed Ticat kick-off. 5. Too many men on an extra point (declined). 6. Fake punt that lead to Ticats interception. That for the Bombers has to change and will by Friday night vs. Toronto and knowing Craig Dickenson as special teams coach, it will. Final game to be honest with you was a tough game to watch. Monsoon #2 for Edmonton which means not the best opportunity for quarterback Mike Reilly to excel and improve. B.C. slowly but surely took the game over the longer the game went on and will play Edmonton next week but this one will be in the dome in Vancouver so no rain anticipated. Edmonton missed Marcus Howard and Fred Stamps as both did not play but the issue is Edmonton scored only three points. Was it a good BC defence or poor Eskimo offence? Probably a bit of both. Another issue is the second blocked punt in two games allowed by Edmonton. As GM Ed Hervey said earlier in the week, "we are rebuilding." After three weeks of football teams now have three weeks of game film on all players. Now going into the fourth week, the question is: do we have the right players? And next week, that will be the question I try to answer. Yonder Alonso Jersey . Kyle Denbrook, a soccer player from Saint Marys University, took the CIS male athlete of the week honour. ATLANTA -- Interim Braves manager Brian Snitker is used to answering questions about his teams inability to score. On a rare night, Snitker was delighted to watch Atlantas offense score at least one run in six innings. When you do, (the hitters) kind of relax and make it look easy, which it isnt, Snitker said. What an amazing job by the offense to come through there and pickk me up and keep chipping that whole game.dddddddddddd It makes it a little easier.Atlanta crept back in the game on Anthony Reckers RBI groundout in the second, Freddie Freemans RBI double in the third and Reckers RBI double, which made it 4-3 in the fourth. The Braves took a 5-4 lead in the fifth on Nick Markakis sacrifice fly and Inciartes single.
