There are no names that crackle when you hear them, the way?Zack Greinke?and Jason Heyward?did in 2016 or Robinson Cano?after the 2013 season. And its nowhere close to what the winter of 2018-19 could bring: Bryce Harper! Manny Machado! Josh Donaldson! Now those are names!?Heck, Yoeniss Cespedes, who is no lower than No.dddddddddddd 2 in our trio of free-agent rankings for this offseason (Jim Bowden | Keith Law | Dan Szymborski), has already re-signed with the Mets for four years and $110 million. CLEVELAND -- Josh Tomlin again struggled to keep the ball in the ballpark.David Ortiz hit a two-run homer and Jackie Bradley Jr. added a solo shot in the sixth inning Monday, rallying the Boston Red Sox over the Cleveland Indians 3-2.Tomlin (11-6) has allowed a major league-leading 29 home runs.Im not going to walk guys, Im going to challenge them, but Im trying to avoid the crooked numbers (on the scoreboard) as much as I can, Tomlin said. That hasnt really happened lately. I have to limit the traffic on the bases in order to limit the damage for myself and my team.Ortizs 27th home run this season, the 530th of his big league career, came off a cutter and overcame a 1-0 deficit. Ortiz homered in all three games the Red Sox played in Cleveland in his final season.I thought Ortiz might ambush the heater, so I went in another direction, Tomlin said. I made a mistake against an unbelievable hitter, a great hitter, and he made me pay.Drew Pomeranz (1-2) allowed two runs and five hits in 7 2/3 innings to win for the first time since he was acquired from San Diego on July 14. He had been 0-2 in five starts for the Red Sox.Selected by Cleveland with the fifth overall pick in the 2011 amateur draft, Pomeranz gave up Rajai Davis leadoff homer in the fourth and RBI double in the eighth.Francisco Lindor doubled against Craig Kimbrel leading off the ninth and Mike Napoli walked. Carlos Santana and pinch-hitter Jason Kipnis struck out, and Abraham Almonte hit a drive to right that hooked foul before he popped out. Kimbrel got his 20th save in 22 chances.Tomlin lost his third straight outing and for the fifth time in seven decisions after a 9-1 start, allowing three runs and seven hits in 7 2/3 innings. AL Central-leading Cleveland had won its previous four games. This was a good win, Boston manager John Farrell said. They pushed us, obviously, but Kimbrel was able to get the last one.Boston trails AL East-leading Toronto by 1 1/2 games in the AL East and leads for the leagues second wild card.Every win matters, Ortiz said.TRAINERS ROOMRed Sox: RHP Steven Wright (strained right shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list.Indians: RHP Danny Salazar (sore right shoulder) is scheduled to start Thursday against the White Sox. General manager Jarmo Kekalainen told Aaron Portzline of The Columbus Dispatch on Friday that he wants to see Gaboriks contributions go beyond the scoresheet before considering a long-term deal for the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent. Now that two rounds of the NHL playoffs are complete and 12 teams have been eliminated, there is a small pool of players from which to choose for the final segment of the Playoff Hockey Challenge. Here is a look at some of the top performers from Round Two and where some value may still remain for last two rounds on the way to the Stanley Cup. First, the best of the second round: Jonathan Quick, G, Los Angeles (4-3, 1.43 GAA, .951 SV%, 7 GP) - Performing much like he did as the Conn Smythe Trophy winner for last years playoffs, Quick was the difference against San Jose. Kris Letang, D, Pittsburgh (1 G, 9 A, +4, 5 GP) - Last years top scoring defenceman in the playoffs was the Kings Drew Doughty, who had 16 points. Letang has 16 points halfway through the four-round run to the Cup. James Neal, LW, Pittsburgh (5 G, 4 A, +3, 5 GP) - Neal hadnt done much until the last two games against Ottawa, when he talled five goals and two assists. Thats part of the challenge going up against the Penguins. Its possible to keep some in check for a while but, eventually, they bust loose. Sidney Crosby, C, Pittsburgh (4 G, 2 A, even, 5 GP) - A hat trick in Game Two accounted for a lot of Crosbys production, but 15 points in 10 playoff games is a pretty smooth transition for a guy who missed the last quarter of the regular season. Evgeni Malkin, C, Pittsburgh (2 G, 3 A, +3, 5 GP) - In one of the two games that he was held off the scoresheet against Ottawa, Malkin still managed 10 shots on goal. Always dangerous, particularly with the Penguins full complement of wingers. Brad Marchand, LW, Boston (2 G, 4 A, +1, 5 GP) - Marchand didnt have a great first round, managing three assists in seven games against Toronto, but Boston won anyway. However, he was the Bruins top scorer in Round Two and will have to be a factor against Pittsburgh if the Bruins are going to advance. Torey Krug, D, Boston (4 G, 1 A, +3, 5 GP) - Injuries along the blueline forced the Bruins to call-up Krug, a 5-foot-9 blueliner who had 45 points in 63 AHL games in his first year out of Michigan State. Now the question is, can he keep his spot once the Bruins defence is healthy? Slava Voynov, D, Los Angeles (2 G, 3 A, +2, 7 GP) - Voynov leads all defencemen with four goals and is tied with San Joses Logan Couture for the overall lead with three game-winners. Gregory Campbell, C, Boston (3 G, 1 A, +5, 5 GP) - A checking centre, Campbell had one point in Round One, before four points in the last four games against the Rangers. Thats a difference-making peformance from a guy who played fewer than 13 minutes per game. Jeff Carter, RW, Los Angeles (2 G, 3 A, +3, 7 GP) - Offence hasnt come easily to the Kings, so theyve beeen fortunate to have Quick play so well, but Carter has been their most dangerous shooter, leading the team with five goals and tied for the team lead with 39 shots on goal in the first two rounds.dddddddddddd Mike Richards, C, Los Angeles (2 G, 3 A, +3, 7 GP) - Richards had very similar production to Carter in the second round, though hes more playmaker and doesnt generate the same kind of shot totals. Kyle Turris, C, Ottawa (3 G, 1 A, even, 5 GP) - An impressive postseason showing, which included six goals and nine points in 10 games, was admittedly boosted by three points in the Senators last two lopsided losses against Pittsburgh. Colin Greening, LW, Ottawa (3 G, 1 A, even, 5 GP) - The big winger had a three-game goal-scoring streak to open the second round and earned more ice time as a result, with his two highest ice-time totals of the season coming in games Three and Five against Pittsburgh. When you make your picks in the Playoff Hockey Challenge, remember that your roster will stay fixed for the last two rounds. That means picking only the players that you think will play enough games to have value over two rounds. In the most likely scenario, that will mean limiting your picks to players from two teams, one to represent the East and one to represent the West in the Stanley Cup Final. There is plenty of room in the budget to target top players, though the trick will be selecting the right players on the right teams. Its one thing to know you want Drew Doughty and Zdeno Chara to be on your defence, but if Los Angeles and Boston dont advance, it ultimately wont do you much good. There is certainly risk in taking someone like Torey Krug, for example, because he could get bumped from the lineup, but if you want to save money to spend elsewhere, Krug costs ($6.2) the same as non-scoring options like Kings defencemen Matt Greene and Robyn Regehr. With fewer productive defence options, the real opportunity to make astute moves lies at forward, where someone like David Krejci, the playoffs leading scorer, comes at the same cost ($7.2) as Dustin Brown. You have to be siding with the Bruins to get past the Penguins for it to matter, but thats one potential value play. Wingers Jarome Iginla ($7.5) and Nathan Horton ($7.1) both come at relatively reasonable prices too. Pascal Dupuis ($6.4) remains underrated considering his production and regular spot on Sidney Crosbys wing. Some players that havent lived up to their pricing yet include Bruins RW Jaromir Jagr (0 G, 4 A in 12 GP), Tyler Seguin (1 G, 3 A in 12 GP) and Jonathan Toews (1 G, 5 A in 12 GP). Get your picks in before puck drop on Saturday and track your team right to the end. ' ' '

While standing on the field, the sense of history is palpable. The natural grass of old Varsity Stadium may have been replaced by the artificial surface of the current configuration, but the pre-season game between the Toronto Argonauts and the Montreal Alouettes will be played on the closest thing the CFL has to sacred ground. Before the brick facade of the old structure succumbed to the wreckers ball in 2002, the venerable facility hosted 30 Grey Cup games, more than any other host venue, the final one coming in 1957. Ghosts of the legends that played at the stadium simply known as Varsity may be eager to peek through the wrought iron fences on the north or west side of the facility on Thursday to see how players like Calvillo, Ray and Owens would stack up against Etcheverry, Krol and Copeland. The horseshoe stands are gone, replaced by one set of bleachers on the east side. Passersby on Bloor Street West will be able to look down to the playing field to see what all the fuss is about. Kids will try to figure a way to sneak in and join the fans who will assemble on the track surrounding the field, much as they did in the stadiums heyday. Someone standing there may try to trip a player whos running down the sideline, a feat that remains another part of Varsitys history. Technology ensures that another famous game of days gone by will not be replayed, the Mud Bowl Grey Cup final of 1950. There will, however, be one constant between that soggy battle and the pre-season game that will be played there 63 years later; Nick Volpe. Volpe was a defensive halfback and place kicker for the Argos that November day and remains with the Argos as a consultant to football operations. He also played at Varsity Stadium for four seasons as a member of the University of Toronto Blues and still scouts the OUA for the double blue. Hes thrilled about Thursdays game. "I thought it was great but I wondered where the fans would sit" Volpe joked with TSN.ca "I go and watch U of T play all the time and its a great field. The sight lines are great. The seats are high enough that you get a beautiful view." Somewhat amazingly, Volpe kicked a pair of field goals and also made a touchdown saving tackle in the Argos 13-0 win over Winnipeg in the Mud Bowl and was presented with the game ball by Head coach Frank Clair. It remains the most cherished memento of his lengthy football life. Volpe left the Argos for several seasons, but stayed close to the game as an isolation director for CTV Sports when it covered the CFL. His talent as a player and scout been rewarded handsomely over the years and after last Novembers victory over Calgary he collected his seventh Grey Cup ring; two as a player, five in personnel. Does he think he may be in for number eight this season? "I like what we have. We lost a lot of good defensive players, but boy Ill tell you the guys that theyve brought in certainly look terrific. As long as we give Ricky Ray time to throw the ball and let (Chad) Kackert run with it, the receivers look so much better this year that I have a feeling we could win it again". Ray, Owens and the ghosts of Krol and Copeland all hope that hes right. Notes: All-star cornerback Patrick Watkins rejoined the team on Wednesday. He had been in the States dealing with what has been described as "personal issues." He says the timing was right to come back. "Sometimes when you play football life gets in the way." He says that when he decided to come back the first call he made was to Defensive Coordinator Chris Jones. He said the coachs first words to him were "When are you getting up here? When? When? When? When?" Watkins says he doesnt know when hell be game ready...Trent Guy is hopeful that he can follow in a new teammates footsteps. When Chad Owens arrived in Toronto from Montreal he was looked upon as an undersized returner who had to prove himself as a receiver. We know what happened there. Can lightning strike twice for the Argos? Guy hopes so. "I have to be a well-rounded receiver as well as a good returner. Chad was looked at as one of those guys, just a returner, and hes done great things in this league. I can learn a lot from him." Guy caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown in the first pre-season game in Winnipeg...Andre Duries job is safe after a 71 catch, 845 yard season. The local product spent a few days with the Grey Cup at several off-season functions, but one stop was particularly special to him, a visit to his alma mater, York University. "The people there were such a help in my recovery from my knee injury, so just bringing it back to all of the doctors and therapists who helped me out through everything (felt great)"...When asked by TSN.ca how many veterans are on the bubble Scott Milanovich replied "Seven or eight." He was quick to follow up by saying that cutting a veteran is never easy. "Guys that you have relationships with and that you care about, its always hard with anybody, but when youve accomplished some of the things weve accomplished together, its tougher." Thursdays game can be heard on TSN 1050 or TSN1050.ca at 7:00pm with Mike Hogan and Sandy Annunziata. Ethan Greenidge Jersey . Scott Kazmir allowed four hits in seven shutout innings, Michael Brantley hit a two-run homer in a three-run first inning and the Indians maintained their hold on an AL wild-card spot with a 4-1 win over the Houston Astros on Saturday night. Max Unger Jersey . The 15th-ranked Canadian men lost the opening two games of their European tour: 19-15 to No. 17 Georgia and 21-20 to No. http://www.customsaintsjersey.com/custom-renaldo-turnbull-jersey-large-1392e.html . Olli Jokinen, Mark Scheifele, and Bryan Little each had a goal and an assist as Winnipeg won 5-2, handing Calgary its record-setting seventh consecutive loss on home ice. Dwayne Washington Jersey . -- Anaheim Ducks captain and leading scorer Ryan Getzlaf has been scratched from Sunday nights game against the Vancouver Canucks because of an upper-body injury. Sam Mills Jersey . -- Stanford squashed Oregons national championship hopes again, schooling the Ducks in power football. Mudassar Nazar The first entrant to the 199 club came after 995 Tests in a rather uninteresting match: the Test ended with Pakistan yet to finish their first innings. In reply to Indias 500 all out, the hosts piled on 674 for 6. Nazar, who opened the innings, was caught behind off Shivlal Yadav; his team-mate Qasim Umar scored 210.Mohammad Azharuddin Another drawn Test in which the side batting second did not complete its first innings. This time India put on 676 for 7, after bowling out Sri Lanka for 420, the only Test innings in which three batsmen scored 150-plus scores without getting a double-century. Sunil Gavaskar got his final Test hundred, his 34th - Sachin Tendulkar broke that mark nearly 19 years later - while Kapil Dev and Azharuddin got their Test bests. Unfortunately for Azharuddin, he never got past 199 - he scored a 192 too - in his 22 Test hundreds, making him the batsman with most Test hundreds without scoring a double.Matthew Elliott The next 199 took a while, and it was the turn of Australian top-order batsman Elliott. Like Azharuddin, the 199 remained the highest of his career. Its the only 199 in an Ashes Test.Sanath Jayasuriya Wonder if Jayasuriya would have been too disappointed to be dismissed on 199: he came into the Test having already smashed 340 in the previous one. His 199 came off 226 balls - he was in contention to break the then record for the fastest double, off 220 balls by Ian Botham - and he is the only batsman to be dismissed on that score in a teams second innings.Steve WaughA Test more famous for Brian Laras heroics also had Steve Waugh scoring a 199 against an attack that had Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh. Waughs only double-century - an even 200 - came against the same opposition in 1995, in a famous win that ended the era of West Indies dominance.Andy Flower The first batsman to be unbeaten on 199 in a Test innings. Andy Flower had already made a 142 as Zimbabwe slumped to 286 all out in reply to South Africas 600 for 3 declared, and he outdid it in the follow-on. He was able to make South Africa bat again, but he did not get enough support to put up a competitive total, and to get his double-hundred. Flower had one double in his Test carreer, which came before his 199 not out.ddddddddddddYounis KhanYounis Khans first double-century had come in his previous Test against India the previous year, and he looked set to get his second in succession. On a flat track, there was not much hope for the bowlers - there were six hundreds in the Test, and four in Pakistans innings - but Younis managed to get run out on 199, the only one to do so. When Younis went past 199 again, in 2009, he scored 313.Ian BellWhile Younis was the only to be run out, Bell remains the only one to be out caught and bowled. Coincidentally, his and Younis 199 required the same number of deliveries. Bell was dismissed trying to play a booming drive off left-arm spinner Paul Harris, only to end up caught by the bowler. Bell got his maiden Test double three years later.Kumar SangakkaraSangakkara ended up stranded on 199 like Flower. During the innings, Sangakkara thought he had got to his double-hundred with a six: he celebrated before it was pointed out that the scoreboard on the ground was showing an extra run. That run was not to be, and his partner at the other end was dismissed in the next over. Sangakkara had the most double-centuries (eight) before getting a 199, and like Younis he got a triple ton the next time he went past 199.Steven Smith Smith missed out on a maiden first-class double-century after being beaten by a superb inswinging yorker by West Indies Jerome Taylor. But he got there a month later, with a 215 against England, becoming the first Australian in 77 years to score a double at Lords.KL Rahul On a flat pitch in Chennai, Rahul got into the 190s with a six off Moeen Ali. Minutes later his innings ended in heartbreak, with an innocuous delivery from Adil Rashid lobbed straight to point. Going by Rahuls track record - out of his five 50-plus scores, four have been hundreds, with two being 150-plus - theres a good chance he will join the 200-club, instead of giving Azharuddin and Elliott company in the list of players with a Test best of 199.Article updated on Decemb

Selfishness is a key asset for success in Formula One, according to McLarens Fernando Alonso. In an interview with the official McLaren website, Alonso -- who is considered to be one of the best drivers on the current grid -- said ruthlessness is one of the most important qualities an F1 driver can have. You need to have no heart, he said. You are not enemies with the other drivers, but you have to focus on yourself to win. If you can hurt someone by getting an advantage over them, thats even better. The Spanish two-time world champion is currently 13th in the driver standings after struggling for results since he returned to McLaren last year. However, he says the feeling of driving an F1 car keeps him in the sport despite being uncompetitive at the moment.I am a competitive person and competition is important in F1, but I dont race in F1 for the competition. I can get that in other areas of my life, like cycling and playing tennis - or racing my mother to the supermarket. The reason I race in F1 is because the cars give me a feeling that I cant get anywhere else. Its unique.Alonso compares the feeling to driving an extreme go-kart, but single out one big difference. Its hard to explain what this feeling is like because nothing else comes close to F1. Your brain has to re-set every time you get in the car because things happen so fast. If you havent driven an F1 car for a few weeks, the level of performance takes you by surprise.I go karting to enjoy the competition; I drive in F1 for this feeling. The driving styles in karting and F1 are quite similar, but nothing unexpected happens in a go-kart. Your brain is never taken by surprise. You can predict everything that the kart is going to do.That isnt the case in F1, where youre taken by surprise all the time. When you hit the brakes, your brain takes 0.2s to catch up. Thats a very nice feeling; that is the feeling. Air Force 1 Alte Just Do It . It just didnt show when he hit the ice. INDIANAPOLIS -- Dwayne Allen is finally getting his wish.Andrew Luck is looking his way a little more often, and the tight ends suddenly have a more prominent role in the Indianapolis Colts offense. From the sound of it, its likely to stay that way.We know we want to be able to attack defenses in multiple ways and that means wide receivers catching balls, the tight ends and the running backs, and be able to utilize everybody, Luck said Wednesday after targeting tight ends more often in last weekends opener. The Colts (0-1) remain quiet when asked if the use of Allen and Jack Doyle was more by design or merely a function of something Detroit did.But as coordinator Rob Chudzinski puts his stamp on Indys revamped offense, its clear his tight end roots are taking hold.Last season, when Luck was under heavy pressure and missed nine games with injuries, Indys top three tight ends -- Allen, Coby Fleener and Doyle -- combined for 82 catches, 672 yards and five touchdowns.Last week, Allen and Doyle were targeted 10 times. Allen had four catches for 53 yards and one TD, while Doyle had three receptions for 35 yards and two TDs.My role is that Im a pass blocker and a run blocker when they need me to block, and Im a pass catcher when they need me to be a pass catcher, Allen said. There are moments during the game where youre asked to do different jobs, and whenever youre called on, you just have to do them.A year ago, Allen pleaded politely, publicly that he wanted to help the team more. Yet Fleener continued to get more chances. That started changing in March when the Colts defied conventional wisdom by re-signing Allen for four years and $29.4 million, letting Fleener leave in free agency. During training camp and the preseason, the Colts admittedly kept their playbook largely under wraps. On Sunday, the Colts came out relying on the run and short routes. As the game progressed, Luck started taking more shots downfield and the tight ends wound up scoring the last three touchdowns. Doyles 6-yard catch with 37 seconds left gave Indy a short-lived 35-34 lead.It was fun, said Doyle, an Indianapolis native who started his career in Tennessee as an undrafted free agent. When the ball comes your way you try to catch it. (Im) just trying to do my job and the ball happened to find my way. This week, at Denver (1-0), Allen and Doyle again will play crucial parts. While the defending Super Bowl champs no longer have Peyton Manning running the show, they still possess one of the leagues top defenses. And big-hitting Pro Bowlers such as Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware are eager to harass Luck, who sustained a season-ending lacerated kidney last season against the Broncos. One possible way to slow down them down is exploiting the middle of the field with athletic players such as Allen and Doyle. The Colts arent dropping any hints about their game plan, though both promise to be ready. Indy expects nothing less.We have to protect, we have to block and we have to protect and communicate that (Luck) doesnt take any unnecessary hits, coach Chuck Pagano said. Thats our job as an offense. Thats the job of the offensive linemen, the backs and the tight ends to try to make sure that doesnt happen.---Online: AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: www.twitter.com/AP-NFL Yeezy Boost 350 V2 Nere . NEW YORK -- Eight veteran players, including frequent All-Pros DeMarcus Ware, Marshal Yanda and Julius Peppers, are finalists for the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.Other finalists announced by the NFL on Monday are Greg Olsen, Joe Staley, Darren Sproles, Brian Cushing and Frank Gore. The award recognizes players who best demonstrate the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition. The award was created in 2014 in honor of the late founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, a Pro Football Hall of Fame member. The winner will be announced on Feb. 4, the night before the Super Bowl, at the NFL Honors show in which The Associated Press hands out its individual player awards, including league MVP.Each NFL team nominated one of its players for the award. A panel of former players comprised of Hall of Famer Curtis Martin, Warrick Dunn, Karl Mecklenburg and Leonard Wheeler whittled the nominees down to eight. From the eight finalists, each teams players submit a consensus vote of their choice, but cannot vote for a teammate. Two of the players, Colts running back Gore and Panthers tight end Olsen, went to the University of Miami. Gore is in his 12th pro season and Olsen his 10th.Packers defensive end Peppers has had the longest stint in the NFL, in his 15th pro season. Denver DE Ware is in his 12th year, as is Eagles running back Sproles. Ravens guard Yanda and 49ers tackle Staley each is in his 10th pro season, while Texans linebacker Cushing is in his eighth.Among them is a total of 24 All-Pro selections.Last years winner was Charles Woodson, who has since retired. Detroit Lions tight end Eric Ebron, who was limited by a knee injury in practice this past week, is active Sunday against the New York Giants.Ebron, who was listed as questionable by the Lions on Friday, is still experiencing some lingering pain and soreness, a source told ESPNs Adam Caplan.Born in Newark, New Jersey, Ebron has referred to Sundays game as a homecoming as he faces the team he rooted for growing up.Its going to be a dream come true, honestly, in my eyes, Ebron said last week. It should be fun, man. ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- In a significant surprise, the Buffalo Bills released veteran outside linebacker Manny Lawson as part of their final cuts Friday. The Bills also released fullback Jerome Felton. With that move, Glenn Gronkowski made the Bills roster at fullback. In all, the Bills released 21 players Friday as they trimmed their roster to the 53-man limit.Lawson, 32, was expected to start opposite Jerry Hughes in the Bills 3-4 defense until first-round pick Shaq Lawson (shoulder surgery) returns from the physically unable to perform list. The earliest Lawson is eligible to return is Week 7.Without Manny Lawson, the Bills will start veteran Lorenzo Alexander at outside linebacker.Lorenzo Alexander has earned the right to be a starter on this team. He won the job. Thats why hell start, Bills coach Rex Ryan said. As far as specifics [on Lawson], Id rather not get into specifics.Gronkowski, an undrafted rookie from Kansas State, is the youngest of five Gronkowski brothers who are natives of the Buffalo suburb of Williamsville.?Rob Gronkowski is a star tight end for the New England Patriots, and Chris and Dan?Gronkowski are both former NFL players.I think with Glenn, I thought we did a lot of things with him. We put him in at some tight end spots. We put him in a the U tight end. We put him in at fullback. And he gives some special teams depth, Ryan said. So I think that was whats been impressive with this young man. But I wanted to see him be more physical. And I think he showed that a little bit [in the final preseason game].Glenn Gronkowski, whose nickname is Goose, was congratulated Friday on Instagram by his brother Gordie, a former draft selection of the?Los Angeles Angels:Manny Lawson was the only projected starter who played the entire first half of Thursdays preseason finale loss to the Detroit Lions. Ryan said this week he wanted to give the linebacker playing time because he missed the first two preseason games as he recovered from a partially torn pectoral muscle.Lawson remains under investigation by the NFL for a potential violation of the leagues personal conduct policy. A league representative said Thursday there was no update in the case.Although it remains unclear what incident the league is investigating Lawson, the veteran linebacker has acknowledged he was charged in Scottsdale, Arizona, with misdemeanor disorderly conduct/domestic violence in February 2014. Lawson denied there was any physical violence in the incident; the charges were later dropped upon the completion of a diversion program. The Bills will save $2.35 million on their salary cap by releasing Lawson, who signed a four-year deal with Buffalo as a free agent before the 2013 season and has started 29 games over the past three seasons for the Bills in several roles under changing defensive coordinators. The Bills will save $1.55 million against their salary cap by releasing Felton.Felton acknowledged his release in a tweet Friday.Lawson, originally a first-round pick of the 49ers in 2006, played five seasons in San Francisco and two seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals before joining the Bills. Its exciting and I cant wait for the Chase.Daniel Hemric and?John Hunter Nemechek?battled side-by-side at time down the stretch in hopes of catching Byron but neither could chase down the series points leader, who passed Timothy Peters and didnt look back en route to KBMs 51st career victory.Byron led twice for 70 laps in the 225-mile race in the No. 9 Toyota for his fourth win this season and second in three starts. Nemechek finished second in a Chevy, followed by Hemric (Ford), rookie and KBM driver Christopher Bell (Toyota) and Johnny Sauter (Chevy).Byrons win provided consolation and satisfaction for the team owner and Sprint Cup Series champion, who finished 30th after hitting the wall following contact with Spencer Gallagher on lap 58.Its been a lot of fun, said Busch, whose team passed Roushh Fenway Racing for the record.ddddddddddddIts been a lot trying times, its been a lot of blood, sweat and tears by both my wife and myself and all these guys that are on this team now and all the people that have been a part of Kyle Busch Motorsports in the years past. He ended up finishing 11th as Byron went on to dominate another Trucks race.Thats usually the domain of Busch, who entered the night seeking his third Kentucky win in hopes of jump-starting a weekend of triple duty. His quest took an early hit as he was penalized for having too many crew members over the wall on pit road before the spin that ended his night. It still ended well team-wise as his three other drivers navigated the resurfaced and reconfigured 1.5 mile tri-oval to claim three of the top 11 spots.Byron leads Matt Crafton by 13 points.Race notesSprint Cup rookie of the year Brett Moffitt drove the No. 11 Toyota in place of Matt Tifft as he recovers from brain surgery but made an early exit when his truck blew an engine on lap 27. GLASGOW, Scotland -- Anti-doping leaders were challenged to produce more credible evidence of Russian cheating by a leading Olympic executive on Saturday.Leaving a meeting of the World Anti-Doping Agency executive committee, IOC representative Gian Franco Kasper dismissed the credibility of the report that detailed Russian state-sponsored doping.Manipulation of samples at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games and cover-ups of positive tests across dozens of summer and winter Olympic sports was reported by WADA investigator Richard McLaren in July ahead of the Rio de Janeiro Games.I want to see the proof, Kasper, who is also president of the skiing federation, said in Glasgow. We cannot say its correct or not. He has to bring proof with names.Former Russian anti-doping lab director Grigory Rodchenkov told McLaren that samples of Russian athletes were passed through a concealed hole in the wall during the middle of the night at the Sochi Games, with the help of intelligence officers from the FSB, the current version of the Soviet Unions KGB.You know this hole in the wall in Sochi was Hollywood for me ... they had a key for the door, Kasper said. The KGB are so stupid they have to drill a hole in the wall? Come on.U.S. Anti-Doping Agency chairman Edwin Moses, the gold medal-winning and world record-setting hurdler from the 1970s and `80s, said it was ridiculous for Kasper to question the investigation.Wave after wave of retests show that there are Russian athletes (doping), Moses said after attending the WADA meeting with Kasper. You can go back one or two Olympic Games and it just seems like wave after wave of Russians are showing up (as having doped) which really cuts through the credibility of the results of those Olympic Games and the redistribution of medals. To me thats a horrible situation. The latest batch of retests of samples from the 2008 Beijing Olympics saw the IOC announce on Thursday that four Russian athletes, including three medalists, tested positive for banned substances. The credibility of Olympic medals has diminished and thats what the athletes are believing, Moses said. You have scores of athletes out there who should have won medals and now know they were right. That is why Moses, like WADA, wanted the entire Russian delegation banned from the Rio Games in August, a move that provoked the ire of the International Olympic Committee. The IOC rebuffed those calls, instead allowing individual sports to rule on the eligibility of Russians.Three months after the Rio Games, the rifts remerged in public at an Olympic gathering this week in Qatar, where the IOC questioned Craig Reedies WADA leadership, demanding a neutral president. Reedie is still set to be re-elected unchallenged for a second three-year term at the WADA Foundation Board meeting in his native Scotland. There is no point at the moment walking away from this situation when things need to get done and things get difficult, Reedie said on Saturday. There are people demanding improvements in process and I want to get that finished as well.A WADA Foundation Board meeting on Sunday will see a discussion of the WADA leaderships push for enhanced whistleblowing mechanisms, and bid to codify a sliding scale of sanctioning powers, including fines or blanket bans on entire countries or sports for the type of widespread doping scheme it believes was run by the Russian state.WADA only tried it once with the Russians in Rio and the IOC said no -- its none of their business, Kasper said. It has to be a neutral institution and it shouldnt be political. ... You cannot be the prosecutor and the judge yourself. Martinez was playing reasonably shallow in right field, willing to risk a ball hit over his head. That decision paid off when Travis dArnaud poked a single right to him.Martinez threw Jay Bruce out at the plate on the final play of the game, enabling the Detroit Tigers to hold on for a pulsating 6-5 victory over the New York Mets on Saturday night. Bruce was trying to score from second on dArnauds hit, and Martinez was ready.I was kind of in a way anticipating it a little bit, Martinez said. I wasnt confident that he was really going to drive something over my head, so I kind of just shaded in a little bit more than perhaps they say you should.New York trailed 6-1 before rallying with two runs each in the fifth and seventh, and with men on first and second and two out in the ninth, dArnaud hit a single to right. Martinez charged the ball, and his one-hop throw home was in time to get Bruce.Miguel Cabrera drove in three runs for the Tigers, who have won 10 of 11 and trail AL Central-leading Cleveland by two games.Detroits Matt Boyd (3-2) allowed three runs and six hits in five innings, and New Yorks Logan Verrett (3-7) yielded six runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.Martinezs throw gave Francisco Rodriguez his 32nd save in 34 chances.J.D. picked me up big time, Rodriguez said. I guess when everythings going well, you catch those types of breaks.Bruce and Curtis Granderson homered for the Mets, but New York went 2 of 12 with men in scoring position -- and one of the hits was dArnauds on the last play of the game. Its really tough to lose this one, because we had so many good at-bats in the last few innings, and we just couldnt get the one big hit, Mets manager Terry Collins said. Then, when we finally get one, J.D. Martinez makes a great throw and we dont get anything out of it.After Bruces fourth-inning homer tied the game at 1, the Tigers answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a two-run single, and Ian Kinsler drove in another run with a single. Cabreras two-run single gave Detroit aa five-run lead.ddddddddddddIt was 6-3 in the seventh when Bruce came up with men on first and second and nobody out. Cabrera fielded his grounder and threw toward second, but the ball hit runner Neil Walker in the head and bounced toward center field. A run came home, and the Mets scored another when Wilmer Flores hit a grounder to third that Mike Aviles misplayed for an error. With men on first and second and still nobody out, dArnaud grounded into a double play, and Detroit was able to get out of the inning up 6-5.The Mets also hit into double plays in the sixth and the eighth.ROSTER MOVESThe Tigers could celebrate the win, but they announced afterward that RHP Jordan Zimmermann and 3B Nick Castellanos were headed to the DL. Castellanos left Saturdays game with a non-displaced fracture of his left hand. He was hit by a pitch during Detroits big fourth inning.Probably a minimum of four weeks, manager Brad Ausmus said. Certainly not good news for us. The important thing is for him to get healthy. Were looking really some point in early September that wed get him back. The Tigers will call up INF Casey McGehee and LHP Kyle Ryan. LHP Daniel Norris will eventually take Zimmermanns spot in the rotation.CONCESSIONThe Mets had nothing to lose by challenging the final play at the plate, but they were satisfied that Bruce was indeed out and didnt ask for a review. Our guys said he was out on the replay, so we didnt bother, Collins said. Maybe thats a play that you challenge no matter what, because the worst that can happen is you still lose the game.TRAINERS ROOMMets: RHP Zack Wheeler (Tommy John surgery) pitched an inning in his first rehab start with Class A St. Lucie.UP NEXTMets: RHP Jacob deGrom (7-5) takes the mound Sunday as New York tries to avoid a three-game sweep.Tigers: RHP Anibal Sanchez (6-11) starts for Detroit in the finale of this nine-game homestand.---Follow Noah Trister at www.Twitter.com/noahtrister ' ' '

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- The fact that the Minnesota Wild have scored just one goal in the last seven periods of hockey at home would be a cause of great concern for most NHL teams. And while theres always a desire for more offense, when youre getting goaltending on the level of what Devan Dubnyk is doing lately, you can keep your head above water. The Wild head into their Saturday night home meeting with the Colorado Avalanche as Dubnyk is coming off his NHL-best fourth shutout of the season -- a dramatic 1-0 win vs. the Boston Bruins on Thursday -- and leading the league in all the statistical categories. So the recent lack of goal support is less concerning for a goalie thats allowed nine goals in his past nine games. Its not my job to score, Dubnyk said after blanking the Bruins for the second time this season. Its my job to work with the guys and defend. I have zero complaints with how the guys have been defending for me and playing. You take pride in that. This is a fun group to be out on the ice with right now in our end. You enjoy that time while theyre playing as well as they are for me. I got no question in here that these guys can put the puck in the net.Although when they played the Avalanche in Denver two weeks ago, it was one of only two times this season that the Wild didnt score, suffering a 1-0 loss when Colorado goalie Calvin Pickard stopped all 32 shots he faced. The Avalanche are just 2-4-1 since then, and are coming off a loss in Dallas where they fell behind 3-0 early, rallied to pull within a goal, but fell short anyway. The nearly-complete comeback didnt draw many words of praise from Colorados first-year coach.I loved our guys effort for the final 40 minutes, but unfortunately 40 minutes doesnt get the job done on many occasions, he said. Especially when youre that poor in the first, that was frustrating to watch. The frustration is starting to show for Avalanche star forward Nathan MacKinnon as well, who has just three goals after 16 games. That lack of offense comes after his star turn for Team North America in Septembers World Cup games which had expectations raised among the Colorado faithful. While both teams are battling nagging injuries, the Wild are possibly getting closer to full health, as defenseman Marco Scandella has returned to skating with the team and may be cleared to return to the lineup soon. He has missed the last eight games with a high sprain of his right ankle. The Avalanche were without two offensive stalwarts -- Gabriel Landeskog and Matt Duchene -- in the loss at Dallas, but that did free up ice time for others, and rookie A.J. Greer notched his first NHL point versus the Stars after having been recalled from Colorados AHL team in San Antonio on Thursday. Vapormax 97 Uomo . PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger underwent what coach Mike Tomlin called "minor" surgery on Wednesday to deal with lingering discomfort in his right knee. The 31-year-old Roethlisberger, who will miss next weeks minicamp, is expected to return when Pittsburgh opens training camp in July. "This surgery will have no long-term effects on his health," Tomlin said. The surgery is the second one on Roethlisbergers right knee during his nine-year career. He missed four games in 2005 after having a similar procedure but came back to lead the Steelers to their fifth Super Bowl title. Roethlisberger had been a full participant during organized team activities but was concerned enough about the knee that he brought it to the teams attention. Advisors suggested he have the surgery now to give him a clean bill of health when the season begins. The two-time Super Bowl winner has dealt with a series of issues the last several years. He missed one game and was limited in several others with a right ankle injury in 2011 and sat out three games in 2012 with a cracked rib that was in danger of puncturing his aorta. He was in the middle of a career year at the time but wasnt the same when he came back as the Steelers fell to 8-8 and missed the playoffs. Pittsburgh revamped the backup quarterback position during the off-season, letting Byron Leftwich and Charlie Batch go in free agency. The Steelers signed Pittsburgh native Bruce Gradkowski in March and drafted record-setting Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones in the fourth round of the NFL draft. John Parker Wilson is also in the mix. Gradkowski will work with the first team in Roethlisbergers place when the Steelers wrap up OTAs with a rare practice at Heinz Field on Thursday. Chelseas stay at the top could be short-lived if Arsenal beats Tottenham on Sunday.MANCHESTER CITY 1, MIDDLESBROUGH 1Sergio Aguero scored his 150th goal for City before halftime but the hosts were made to pay for failing to kill off the game. Four days after stunning Barcelona 3-1, City conceded in stoppage time to 14th-place Middlesbrough when Marten de Roon planted a header past goalkeeper Claudio Bravo. We created enough chances, we attacked really well and we controlled the counterattacks but when you arrrive in the last minutes just 1-0, everything can happen, City manager Pep Guardiola said.dddddddddddd If we talk about the performance after a demanding game last Tuesday, how we started, moving the ball right and left, maybe in the last minutes the team can be tired.City has drawn three of its last five league games, lost one, and won only once.BOURNEMOUTH 1, SUNDERLAND 2After 11 games, Sunderland finally has a win in the league under David Moyes but the north-east side remains bottom.Id nearly forgotten what it felt like to smile, Moyes said.Striker Victor Anichebe scored his first goal in 18 months to wipe out Dan Goslings opener. Sunderland was reduced to 10 men with half an hour remaining when Steven Pienaar received a second booking for a challenge on Junior Stanislas. But Anichebe earned a penalty after being fouled by Adam Smith and Jermain Defoe converted from the spot.Weve had a couple of games recently when things havent gone for us, Moyes said. Sometimes you need a bit of fortune.BURNLEY 3, CRYSTAL PALACE 3Burnley raced into a 2-0 lead through Sam Vokes and Berg Gudmundsson but threw away the advantage after Connor Wickham and Christian Benteke drew the London club level.Ashley Barnes, however, produced Burnleys winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time. As the promoted side climbed into the top half of the standings into ninth place, Palace dropped to 15th with a fourth successive loss.WEST HAM 1, STOKE 1West Ham continued its unstable start to life at the Olympic Stadium, although there was none of the crowd disorder that has marred recent games.Slaven Bilics side looked to be on its way to victory when Michail Antonios header was deflected into his own net by Stokes Glenn Whelan in the 65th minute. But a goalkeeping error allowed Stoke back into the game 10 minutes later. Adrian came needlessly charging off his line, allowing Jonathan Walters to center for Bojan Krkic to volley into an empty net.LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPQueens Park Rangers fired manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink following a poor run of form that has left the London club in 17th place in the second-tier Championship.Saturdays 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest was not enough for Hasselbaink to save his job.The Dutchman was in charge at QPR for nearly a year, winning 14 of his 47 games in charge.
