Australias workplace oversight body, the FairWork Ombudsman, has queried Cricket Australias contract clauses around female players, compelling the chief executive James Sutherland to state that policies relating to pregnancy, maternity leave and carer support are all under urgent review.Sutherland confirmed that the ombudsman had been in contact with CA on Friday, following the raising of issues around female contracts in news coverage of ongoing pay negotiations between the board and the Australian Cricketers Association. While stating that CA will co-operate fully with any investigation, Sutherland lashed out at the ACA for how the contract clauses had come to light, adding that the players association had agreed to them in the first place. We will co-operate fully with the Ombudsman, and welcome their inquiries because it is always our intention to provide the best support for all our players, Sutherland said. We are extremely disappointed that this issue has been raised by the ACA.Their senior executives were fully involved in negotiating, amending and then agreeing on the contract for women players in the first half of 2015. As the ACA has shown no objection to this contract, they should take responsibility for their role in developing the current policy.Late on Saturday the ACA responded to Sutherlands criticism of the decision to publicly raise the issues around CAs pregnancy policy for female players.* In the formation of the ACAs MOU submission, female players having to warrant they were not pregnant was one issue among many that was raised by our members throughout our consultation, the ACA said in a statement. The ACA rejects the proposition that it should not have raised the issue; silence is not the solution. It is critical that these areas are addressed throughout the MOU process.Furthermore, to hear that female players stand to receive better terms and conditions under a new MOU is pleasing and we will be working to ensure that all players are protected under a new agreement. Eighteen months ago, the ACA was consulted on the development of the relevant policy and contract, and suggested some improvements which CA accepted. CA said yesterday it took expert advice on the policy at the time it was issued.Further heat had been placed on CA by a BBC interview overnight with the ECB director of cricket Clare Connor, who stated that all England women players were eligible for the same maternity leave entitlements offered to all ECB employees, and that they were not required to declare whether or not they were pregnant before signing a contract. The situation with England players is very different from that, Connor said. We treat our centrally contracted players as we would treat any other female non-playing ECB employee. So, they are supported by the full terms of our maternity conditions for all employees, so Heather Knight would be treated the same as me, for example. And they are certainly not required to declare if they are pregnant before signing their ECB contract.I think Cricket Australia have responded to what came out in the press by saying that this clause is to protect the players and to make sure that the medical officers and the physios and everybody are fully aware of the health status of their players. I think, in this day and age, you cant mandate such things. I think it is up to an individual to take responsibility for their own health and whether they are putting themselves or an unborn baby at risk by playing sport, and in terms of the progression of a possible pregnancy. So, it doesnt make great reading, does it?Sutherland denied the above clause had been a stumbling block for women players signing to play in CA sanctioned competitions. As I said yesterday, the pregnancy clause has never affected a female players right to sign a contract, and we have never, nor would we ever, discriminate against anyone on those grounds, he said. It has only been about ensuring the safety of our players.Despite this, we will continue to focus on ensuring Cricket Australia does the very best for our women players to grow their game and encourage more girls and women to pick up a bat and ball, with their health and safety always at the forefront of everything we do.Another issue expected to be placed under the spotlight is the discrepancy in medical support offered to women players in the Womens National Cricket League, the equivalent of the Sheffield Shield. A doctor is a mandatory presence at all mens matches, plus Womens BBL games, but WNCL matches are only served by the presence of a paramedic.*09.55GMT, December 17: This article was updated with the ACA statement Detroit Lions Jerseys . Whisenhunt said he hit it off quickly with Ruston Webster when interviewing for the job Friday night. GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Bryant Crawford was going to take Wake Forests last shot. That much was obvious. The only question was where it would come from.Crawford hit a deep 3-pointer with 2 seconds left to lift Wake Forest past UNC Greensboro 78-75 on Friday night.Hes fearless, coach Danny Manning said, and we love that about him.John Collins had 17 points and 13 rebounds, and Crawford finished with 17 points for the Demon Deacons (8-2). They blew a 16-point second-half lead before Crawford shot them to their third straight win.R.J. White scored a season-high 22 points and Diante Baldwin finished with 18 for UNC Greensboro (7-3), which had its six-game winning streak snapped.Baldwin banked in a runner with 28.6 seconds left that tied it at 75. Wake Forest called a timeout with 18 seconds left to set up its final sequence. Manning said the plan was for Crawford to come off a high ball screen but he just waved everybody off.Austin Arians inbounded the ball in the backcourt to Crawford, who dribbled most of the clock away before making a move right with about 10 seconds left. Crawford slipped near the 3-point arc but recovered and buried a contested 3-pointer from a logo on the floor about 25 feet out.I actually think (slipping) was a good thing because when I started driving, there were still like 7 seconds left (and) I was going to pull it out regardless, Crawford said.Crawford then picked off Francis Alonsos deep inbounds pass and flung the ball toward the scoreboard as time expired.Keyshawn Woods added 16 points and Dinos Mitoglou had 11 before fouling out with 1:01 remaining for Wake Forest.BIG PICTUREWake Forest: Manning will have plenty of teaching points after this one to go over with the Demon Deacons after they led 59-43 with less than 15 minutes to play. They had serious trouble getting stops in the second half, allowing the Spartans to shoot 56 percent after the break. We cant apologize for winning, Manning said. Were disappoinnted that we had to win in this fashion because we had a 16-point lead in the second half, but Im not going to take anything away from UNCG.dddddddddddd ... We just had a guy make a tough shot.UNC Greensboro: One of the best starts in school history is, well, history. With a victory, the Spartans would have been 8-2 for the first time since they opened 12-2 in 1994-95. Instead, they fell to 0-10 all-time against Wake Forest and 2-55 against Atlantic Coast Conference schools, never having beaten one at home. But this felt different for the Spartans, who werent at all content to simply be competitive. The team we know we have this year, we expect to win those games (and not just) be close with big schools like that, White said. We have confidence in all our guys.STAR WATCHCollins had his fifth straight double-double, and the Demon Deacons are 5-1 this season when he has one. But he only attempted two shots after halftime, hitting one. His most impressive individual highlight might have come with about 8 1/2 minutes left in the first half when he blocked a dunk attempt by James Dickey. That sent Wake Forest back the other way with Mitchell Wilbekin burying a 3-pointer that made it a seven-point game.STAT SHEETWake Forest entered outrebounding its opponents by about five per game, but were outworked on the glass by the Spartans for a significant portion of this game and the teams had 31 boards apiece.UP NEXTWake Forest: After a week off for exams, the Demon Deacons visit No. 13 Xavier on Dec. 17 in the Skip Prosser Classic.UNC Greensboro: The Spartans play host to Southern Wesleyan on Dec. 14 before heading across the state to face UNC Asheville five days later.---Follow Joedy McCreary at http://twitter.com/joedyap.---More AP college basketball: www.collegebasketball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25. RIO DE JANEIRO -- Andy Murray is making a habit of accomplishing things that hadnt been done in a while.Or ever.Murray became the first tennis player in Olympic history with two singles gold medals, winning his second in a row by wearing down Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 at the Rio de Janeiro Games in a back-and-forth 4-hour final Sunday.Anything could have happened, said Murray, who took the last four games after trailing 5-3 in the fourth set.Emotionally, it was tough. Physically, it was hard, he said. So many ups and downs. At the 2012 London Olympics, Murray won a singles gold and mixed doubles silver at the All England Club. That, of course, was also the site of his historic 2013 Wimbledon championship, ending the hosts 77-year wait for a British man to claim the trophy.Murray won Wimbledon again last month, raising his Grand Slam title count to three. On Sunday, the No. 2-seeded Murray stopped the resurgent run of the 141st-ranked del Potro, who knocked off No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the first round after getting stuck in an athletes village elevator for 40 minutes earlier in the day, then beat No. 3 Rafael Nadal in the semifinals. No man ever has defeated the top three seeds on the way to a gold, but 2009 U.S. champion del Potro sure came close before winding up with a silver to go alongside his bronze from 2012.Del Potro had the louder support, and one fan even yelled something as Murray was about to hit a shot while two points from victory. He put the ball in the net and glared in the direction the voice came from. Soon after, a spectator was escorted out.Nadal, the 2008 gold medalist, lost 6-2, 6-7 (1), 6-3 earlier Sunday to Kei Nishikori, whose bronze is Japans first Olympic tennis medal since 1920.The final provided quite a contrast in styles: Murrays terrific returns, impenetrable defense and track-down-every-ball court coverage against the 6-foot-6 del Potros booming serves and furious forehands. In heavy humidity and on a slow hard court, there were plenty of prolonged points. Not all were pretty, though, as they combined for 102 unforced errors, and 85 winners. They almost went to a fifth set, too, because del Potro served for the fourth at 5-4, but was broken there, then again in the final game.Against Andy, del Potro said, you never know if youre going to win your serve. When del Potro dumped a backhand into the net to end the match, the opponents met at the net and hugged.Afterward, both mentioned how tired they were after playing for the fourth consecutive day.Del Potro would have been the lowest-ranked man to be an Olympic tennis gold medalist and this would have been his first title at any tournament since January 2014. A couple of months later, he had the first of three operations on his left wrist that forced him to miss 2+ years worth of Grand Slam tournaments. His first major tournament back was in June at Wimbledon and he still is not completely able to rip two-handed backhands the way he used to, often relying on righty slices.Hed done amazing, really, to get back to playing and competing again at this level after all of the issues he had, Murray said.By the 10th point of Sundays match, a 26-stroke exchange that ended with Murray netting a forehand, del Potro already looked spent. He closed his eyes, rolled back his head, stuck out his tongue and sucked air. By the fourth set, he was leaning on his racket as if it were a cane.Early on, del Potro ended a mesmerizing, 34-stroke point by pounding a forehand winner, then motioned to the crowd for more noise, perhaps hoping to delay things. His supporters responded dutifully, raising a ruckus with their song of Ole, ole, ole, ole! Del-po! Del-po! -- a chorus they repeated as he stood on court after the medal ceremony, wearing an Argentine flag like a cape.During the match, they would bounce in place and shout in Spanish, Whoever isnt jumping is English! (Murray is Scottish, but you get the point.)Murray carried Britains flag during the opening ceremony in Rio, and on Sunday evening, he saw it raised in the stadium while he sang along to God Save the Queen. Before beating Roger Federer in the 2012 Olympic final, Murray had never earned one of his sports most significant titles. Since then, hes won his trio of majors and his pair of golds -- and made a successful comeback from back surgery in September 2013.Ill try and keep going. And who knows about Tokyo? Murray said with a laugh, referring to the host city for the 2020 Games. NEW YORK -- The colors of Brandon Jacksons short life filled the church and helped tell his tale of promise and purpose. The bright green and gold jerseys on the dozens of high school football players, just like the ones Jackson used to wear. For rapping 50 Cent lyrics on the school bus and pushing teammates to lift more weight than even coaches required of them. For an accent that mixed Queens with a splash of Savannah, Georgia. For never giving his mom a reason to raise her hand to him. And for leaving her a new extended family. You will never have to worry years from now if this group of men will remember your son, Academy superintendent Lt. Gen Robert L. Caslen said to Davis, an Iraq war veteran of the Army reserves. You may have lost Brandon, but you have gained about 120 new sons. And about 4,000 cadets.Photos of Jackson were displayed on two large video boards at the front of The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral in the Jamaica section of Queens. They told the story of a life barely 20 years lived, and it was jam packed, the Rev. Alfonso Wyatt said during a rousing and rhythmic eulogy.Baby Brandon with a Big Bird doll bigger than him. Brandon in his Bayside Raiders Pee Wee football uniform. Celebrating at track meets. Prom. Graduation. Receiving his acceptance to the academy. Playing for the Black Knights. The accident that killed Jackson occurred about 20 miles south of the West Point campus in Westchester County. The crash, which remains under investigation, happened several hours after Army had defeated Rice in the Black Knights home opener at Michie Stadium. The team returned to the practice field a few days later and last Saturday improved to 3-0 for the first time since 1996 with a 66-14 victory at UTEP.Through you, his spirit was on the field, Jacksons uncle, Fitzgerald Miller, told his teammates. The Black Knights play at Buffalo on Saturday. When Davis was deployed, Jackson was sent to live with his grandparents in Savannah. It is in Georgia where he will be buried, Miller said.Out of loyalty to his mother, Jackson developed a love for Army football. We can beat them boys, Miller recalled a young Brandon saying.Who is we? his uncle asked.Army. Army can beat Navy, Miller said was the boys reply.ddddddddddddJackson mostly grew up in the St. Albans neighborhood of Queens and attended Holy Cross High School, a bus ride away in Flushing. The school has a tradition of playing some of the best football in the city. Recent graduates include former Stanford receiver Devon Cajuste and Carolina Panthers safety Dean Marlowe.Longtime former Holy Cross coach Tom Pugh, who retired after the 2014 season, said he went to West Point to watch Jackson in the Army spring game this year. Pugh said he told Jackson the old coach expected his former player to make an interception during the intrasquad scrimmage. And he started laughing, Pugh said. He goes: `Coach, this is Army. We dont throw the ball. And guess what, he got a pick in the spring game. He pointed up to the seats where I was. He was special. Special young man.Jackson was being recruited by Lafayette College in Pennsylvania during high school, but when the coach recruiting him, John Loose, was hired by Army head coach Jeff Monken, the opportunity to play for the Black Knights became a reality.Jackson earned a starting job as a freshman and had 68 career tackles and three interceptions.Brandon embodied everything it means to be part of this brotherhood, Army linebacker and co-captain Andrew King said. Because of him, were not afraid of failure.Monken said Jackson had a disarming smile.Even after a mistake on the field, I couldnt stay mad at him, Monken said.Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo and members of his staff attended the service. Monken worked as an assistant for Niumatalolo at Navy from 2002-07.The program mourners received at the church had printed on the front over a photo of Jackson: Celebration of a Life Full of Promise and Purpose. A two-hour viewing preceded the service, the casket half open to display Jackson in cadets full dress and white cap. The service was about two hours and ended with Wyatt imploring those gathered to keeping on marching.March through the tears. March through the fears. March through your pain. Keep on marching, he said to applause and replies of Amen. When it was over, the cadets, police officers and high school football players lined the usually busy two-lane street in front of the cathedral. Six cadets carried Brandons casket, covered with an American flag, out of the church and slid it into a hearse as the rows of cadets saluted and a police officer played bagpipes. The black car was filled with flowers, then drove away. Those left behind cried, hugged and slowly dispersed, making it clear that Wyatts words from earlier would ring true. This is a seminal moment. A defining moment, Wyatt preached. You will remember No. 28.---Follow Ralph D. Russo at www.Twitter.com/ralphDrussoAP and the APs college football site at http://collegefootball.ap.org ' ' '

PHOENIX -- The fabulous Golden State Warriors road show plays the Talking Stick Resort Arena on Sunday afternoon, when the two-time defending Western Conference champs take on the winless Phoenix Suns. After losing their season opener in Oakland to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night, the Warriors picked up where they left off last season away from home, beating the New Orleans Pelicans 122-114 on Friday for their 63rd win in the last 83 road games.Included in that impressive run were 135-116 and 112-104 wins at Phoenix last season while the Warriors were going 34-7 on the road, recording seven more wins than any other team.Golden State has yet to find the range from beyond the 3-point arc this season, compiling a 26.2-percent success rate thats one of the worst in the league. But that didnt stop Golden States three top marksmen -- Kevin Durant (30), Klay Thompson (28) and Stephen Curry (23) -- from combining for 81 points in the win over New Orleans. Were going to have to get so much better, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said after the win. We have so much talent, but talent is not going to be enough. We have to be smart, have to be tough, just grow as a team.Fortunately, we have a long time to do it.The Suns have longer-term plans. Theyve had three teenagers on the court at the same time in their opening two losses, a dynamic that will change Sunday, when Devin Booker, the starting shooting guard, turns 20.Rookies Marquese Chriss (19) and Dragan Bender (19) are left to carry the flag for the teen-age crew, along with Derrick Jones, who has yet to see action in the regular season.Already the Suns have seen improvement, going from a 113-94 home loss to the Sacramento Kings to a 113-110 overtime defeat on the road against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The first game, I couldnt really sleep on, Suns point guard Eric Bledsoe noted after Fridays game. But this game, we made great strides. You could say the same for last season. The Warriors thumped Phoenix by 19 and 25 points in their first two meetings, but then had to sweat out eight- and seven-point victories later in the season.A big reason for the Suns improvement last season was the development of Booker, who totaled six points on 2-for-9 shooting in 35 minutes in the blowouts, but then helped keep the Suns competitive with 15- and 18-point games in the final two meetings while logging a total of 79 minutes.Of course, those matchups occurred before Golden State signed Durant in the offseason. The gold-medal-winning forward already is living up to his two-year, $54.3 million contract, becoming the first Warrior since Wilt Chamberlain to debut for the team with two 20-point, 10-rebound efforts.History says Durants streak could be in jeopardy against the Suns. While hes scored 20 or more points in 24 of 30 lifetime meetings with Phoenix, hes recorded double-figure rebounds just six times, including once in three matchups last season. Jessica Korda is currently in South Korea ahead of the Hanwha Finance Classic, and she hit the course for a practice round on Wednesday. But the conditions werent exactly ideal.OK, so, that might actually be a little bit of an understatement.Korda took to the course in the middle of what really can only be described as a wind storm. As you can imagine, it really didnt go well. And if you need proof of this, or just need some entertainment, please take a look at this video from the third tee:I dont think the phrase, Hold on to your hats! has ever been more appropriate.Kordas friend and fellow golfer Brittany Lincicome perhaps best summed up the conditions with a simple tweet:Couldnt have said it any better myself.See something entertaining on social media that you think deserves to be shared? Eric ONeal says most of the arrests at Monday nights game were for public drunkenness, though one person was taken into custody on suspicion of trying to steal a seat from the stadium. As West Ham prepare to say an emotional goodbye to the Boleyn Ground, thoughts will turn to the player who will score the final goal at the famous east London stadium… Manchester United will be the final visitors to the Boleyn Ground, otherwise known as Upton Park, on Tuesday, and it is a match which will be shown exclusively live on Sky Sports 1 HD. The clash against United will bring the curtain down on 112 years of history at the stadium and the Hammers will be hoping to give it a fitting send-off ahead of their move to the Olympic Stadium in Stratford. Here, we take a look back at the players who wrote themselves into the history books by scoring the final goal at some historic English stadiums…The Dell - Matt Le Tissier (2001) Not many players are given a nickname that infers a God-like status. However, Matt Le Tissier was considered worthy of such a nickname by his adoring Southampton supporters. To Saints fans, Le Tissier was simply Le God.Le Tissier, a one-club man, scored over 200 goals and famously played a leading role in a number of final-day escapes from relegation during his 16 years with Southampton. But there was no desperate need for some final-day heroics from Le Tissier as the 2000-01 season drew to a close. In fact, Southampton had secured their Premier League status months earlier and could relax as they welcomed Arsenal for the final match at The Dell - their home for the previous 103 years. Matthew Le Tissier scores the last goal at The Dell - a last-minute winner against Arsenal The vast majority of the 15,252 fans in attendance craved the perfect send-off. They would get it, but were made to wait until the very end. With the match finely poised at 2-2 and entering the final minute of normal time, Le Tissier, who had not scored all season, stepped forward and stole the show in a way that would not look out of place in a Hollywood movie script. Le Tissier waves goodbye to The Dell for one final time Le Tissier attempted to collect the ball just inside the 18-yard box, however his touch, normally exemplary, eluded him this time. But good fortune was on his on side as Martin Keowns attempted clearance fell straight back at his feet.Without any hesitation, Le Tissier curled an unstoppable left-footed shot into the top corner of the net - cue pandemonium among the Southampton fans.Filbert Street - Matt Piper (2002)Leicester may well have lifted the Premier League title for the first time in their 132-year history on Saturday, but rewind 14 years ago and it was a totally different story for the club. The Foxes were playing only for pride on the final day of the 2001-02 season having had their relegation from the Premier League confirmed a month earlier following a 1-0 home defeat to Manchester United. An already relegated Leicester claimed victory in their final match at Filbert Street They would finish bottom of the table regardless of their result against Tottenham in their final home match ahead of their move to the Walkers Stadium, later renamed the King Power Stadium. A host of Leicester legends were in attendance as Micky Adams team attempted to put a disappointing campaign to one side and end their 111-year stay at Filbert Street on a high. Matthew Piper ensured Leicester ended their stay at Filbert Street on a high But that looked a long way off when Teddy Sheringham scored from the penalty spot early in the second-half, leaving an already demoralised Leicesster team with an uphill task.dddddddddddd An equaliser from Paul Dickov gave Leicester hope of a turnaround and it was left to Matt Piper to score the winner and the final goal at Filbert Street, with the winger heading past Neil Sullivan to send the home support into raptures. Maine Road - Michael Svensson (2003)It does not always go according to plan, as Manchester City found out when they bid farewell to Maine Road in 2003. City faced Southampton in their final match at Maine Road, their home of 80 years, ahead of their move to the City of Manchester Stadium, later renamed the Etihad Stadium. Manchester City suffered a 1-0 defeat to Southampton in their final match at Maine Road The celebration ceremony, which would take place at the final whistle, was rehearsed and ready to go, with Badly Drawn Boy all set to kick off the party. However, on the pitch, Southampton clearly hadnt read the script. Southampton defender Michael Svensson scored the final goal at Citys Maine Road The Saints, who had given the perfect send off to The Dell two years previously, were in no mood to do any favours and when Michael Svensson headed in from a Matt Oakley free-kick in the 34th minute, Citys hopes of a winning finale were unceremoniously ended. Highbury - Thierry Henry (2006)But it sometimes does go according to plan as Arsenal experienced on the final day at Highbury. The Gunners came into the final match of the 2005-06 Premier League season with their fate not in their own hands in the race for a top-four finish. A win at home to Wigan would not be enough to clinch a Champions League place if north London rivals Tottenham secured victory away at West Ham. Arsenals all-time record goalscorer Thierry Henry scored the final goal at Highbury Events at the Boleyn Ground would in the end favour Arsenal, with a stomach bug hitting the Tottenham squad. It would ultimately prove costly for Spurs, who suffered a 2-1 defeat. Arsenal were doing what they needed to do at Highbury anyway and were leading 3-2 when referee Uriah Rennie awarded them a spot-kick with less than 15 minutes remaining. Arsenal bid farewell to Highbury after 93 years at the stadium There was no question over who the taker would be. Thierry Henry, Arsenals all-time record goalscorer, had netted twice already and stepped up to complete his hat-trick, coolly slotting past Mike Pollitt. Henry celebrated by saluting the Highbury faithful for one final time before kneeling down to kiss the turf. This should be celebrated because it will not always be this way. LOS ANGELES -- Ross Stripling wasnt blowing away the Arizona hitters, so when his velocity dipped the rookie gave way to the bullpen. The Dodgers relief corps combined with Stripling on a four-hitter and he helped himself with a go-ahead single in the second inning, leading Los Angeles to a 5-2 victory Tuesday night, the teams fourth straight.I heard my velocity was down. Maybe just one of those days, Stripling said. Maybe a weird day. I was happy to get through five. Im approaching an innings limit.Stripling and fellow rookie Julio Urias are on unspecified innings limits. The NL West leaders remained a season-high four games ahead of San Francisco, which beat Colorado 3-2.Were playing great baseball, right fielder Josh Reddick said. If we keep doing that the rest of the year we wont have to worry about them.Stripling (4-6) allowed two runs and three hits in five innings. The right-hander struck out five and walked none.I didnt want him pushing it, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. I saw his velocity dip down in the fourth. It was more the crispness of the pitches.Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 42nd save in 48 chances in his 400th career appearance. He is two from tying his career high saves set two years ago.The Dodgers produced most of their runs on singles a night after hitting five home runs off former teammate Zack Greinke in a 10-2 victory in the series opener. They had 11 hits. This month and month and a half for them has been pretty amazing how they have been swinging the bat, Arizona starter Shelby Miller said. They were pretty aggressive out of the first inning.Miller (2-11) extended his losing streak to five games after giving up five runs and a career-high-tying 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings, his shortest start since May 1 against Colorado. The right-hander struck out two and walked none in his second start since returning from the minors on Aug. 31. He has lost 11 of 13 decisions since being acquired in a five-player trade from Atlanta last offseason.Im struggling with the loss a little bit, Miller said, just kind of tired of losing.Striplings first career RBI single down the first-base line with two outs in the second gave Los Angeles the lead for good at 2-1. Justin Turner tied the game with a RBI single in the bottom of the first.Stripling, who attended Texas A&M, has known Miller for a while. Miller committed to the Aggies to play baseball, but instead signed with St. Louis after being drafted in 2009.Thats pretty funny, Stripling said. I squeaked it right by that bag. Im certainly no expert with the bat. I didnt hit in college or even high school, so were learning on the run.The Dodgers produced three runs on five hits in the third. Yasmani Grandals RBI groundout made it 3-1 before Reddick and Andrew Toles came up with RBI singles with two outs for a 5-1 lead.A.J. Pollocks two-out homer in the first and Jake Lambs sacrifice fly in the fourth accounted for Arizonas runs. The D-backs have lost four of six.SERIES WINThe Dodgers extended their home unbeaten streak against the D-backs to 10 straight series (9-0-1). They last lost to Arizona in Los Angeles from June 10-12, 2013. The Dodgers are 23-7 at home against the D-backs in that span.TRAINERS ROOMD-backs: Recalled LHP Steve Hathaway, RHP Dominic Leone, RHP Matt Koch, OF Mitch Haniger and INF-OF Peter OBrien from Triple-A Reno. He didnt factor in the decision in his last outing on Sept. 2 at Colorado, allowing six runs -- five earned -- and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.Dodgers: RHP Brock Stewart (0-2, 7.94) last pitched for the Dodgers on Aug. 28 against the Cubs, allowing two hits in five scoreless innings while not factoring in the 1-0 victory. Victorino is batting sixth and playing right field after missing two games because of back tightness. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said his right eye, which has undergone four operations since the start of November, will require another operation after the end of the teams season. But it wont require Zimmer to miss another game, and even though he could have to take extra steps to coach the rest of the season following the surgeries on his detached retina, he said he wont step away from his team.Im not missing any more games the rest of my life, he said.Zimmer coached with a patch over his right eye during practice this week -- a step that prompted plenty of pirate-themed jokes from his players -- and he had to wear two different sets of glasses during Sundays game against the Jacksonville Jaguars: sunglasses that blocked out the vision in his right eye, and reading glasses for when he needed to look at his call sheet on the sidelines. As Zimmer went to shake Jaguars coach Gus Bradleys hand after Minnesotas 25-16 victory, he had to have Vikings security director Kim Klawiter guide him to midfield. When I did take the patch off, Kim was walking me across the field, and I said, I cant see where hes at, Zimmer said. He said, Dont worry -- I got you.Zimmer missed the first game of his 23-year NFL coaching career on Dec. 1 after emergency eye surgery the previous day, and he watchedd from home as the Vikings lost 17-15 to the Dallas Cowboys.dddddddddddd He had another operation the day after the game, and though he returned to work this past Monday, he had to ease back into some portions of his job.Zimmer said he expects he will have to wear an eyepatch on the sidelines the rest of the season, though he admitted his players would likely enjoy that. There was a lot of, Aye aye, Captain [this week], he said.Zimmers return came as the Vikings won for just the second time in eight games, improving to 7-6 on the season and keeping their playoff hopes alive before next Sundays game against the Indianapolis Colts. When we got back in the building, it was just great to have him around, quarterback Sam Bradford said. I think everyone in our locker room knows how much he cares about us, how much he cares about this team, what it means to him to lead us on Sundays. Him being back in the building, it just kind of gave us a boost. When we see our leader like that, probably risking his health for us, it does give us a little bit of motivation to go out there and play extra hard for him.Did Bradford joke with the coach? No, he said. Hes kind of scary with that patch on. ' ' '

With one week to go before UFC 205s blockbuster lightweight title fight, Tony Ferguson has certainly built a strong case to face the winner.Ferguson (22-3) claimed his ninth victory in a row at UFC Fight Night on Saturday, defeating former champion Rafael dos Anjos via unanimous decision in Mexico City. All three judges saw it exactly the same, 48-47 in Fergusons favor. The five-round fight was probably not as close as scores indicated. With the exception of the opening round, Ferguson more or less imposed his will. He bloodied dos Anjos face with the jab and had tremendous success with the leg kick. He wobbled him with a knee in the fourth round and outlanded him in overall strikes 187-to-114.In the second round, dos Anjos complained to referee Herb Dean of an accidental eye-poke. Dean didnt stop the bout, but Ferguson willingly stopped the action and let dos Anjos recover. The Brazilian said the eye-poke continued to affect him after the restart but still credited Ferguson on the win.Tony was better tonight, dos Anjos said. I felt like his thing on my eyes bothered me a little in the second. I was seeing double. Thats no excuse. Tony did a great job. He was the better fighter tonight.Dos Anjos (25-9) has now dropped back-to-back fights for just the second time in his 12-year career. He looked sharp in the first frame, as he countered Fergusons pressure with an accurate left-hand counter. He also swept Ferguson clean off his feet with an outside leg kick.He appeared to find his timing again in the third, catching Ferguson with a high head kick and more straight lefts. Ferguson, 32, marched straight through the shots though and answered with offense of his own. He attempted a handful of awkward takedown attempts, barrel rolling into dos Anjoss ankles, but ultimately didnt need one to finish ahead on the scorecards.Ferguson, who trains out of Southern California, entered the weekend ranked the No. 4 lightweight in the world, according to ESPN.com. Dos Anjos, who lost the UFC 155-pound title to Eddie Alvarez in July, came in at No. 2.Ferguson was supposed to face Khabib Nurmagomedov in April but was forced to pull out due to injury. He eventually fought UFC newcomer Lando Vannata in July, whom he defeated by second-round submission. El Cucuy has finished six opponents during his current win streak.Sanchez surprises Held in debutVeteran lightweight Diego Sanchez added another upset win to his resume, as he outworked UFC newcomer Marcin Held in a three-round unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-27).Sanchez (26-10) avoided multiple submission attempts from Held (22-5), who tired as the fight wore on. The closest Held came to finishing the fight was with a standing guillotine in the first, but Sanchez, in a very unique move, somersaulted himself off the fence to break away from the hold.In the later rounds, Helds focus turned exclusively to submission attempts off his back. He rolled for one leg lock after another, but Sanchez calmly spun out of each and scored points from the top. He rocked Held with a big elbow out of the guard in the third.Sanchez, 34, has alternated wins and losses in his last six fights.Lamas forces Oliveira to tap outFeatherweight Ricardo Lamas (17-5) survived multiple bad positions in the opening round before eventually submitting Charles Oliveira (21-7) via guillotine choke at 2 minutes,13 seconds of the second round.Lamas, who had a scheduled fight against BJ Penn canceled last month, accepted the Oliveira bout, even after the Brazilian missed weight by 9 pounds on Friday.Oliveira got off to a good start, securing a body triangle in the first round and nearly finishing the fight with a rear-naked choke. Lamas managed to survive, however, and turn the tide in the second.Oliveira has now tapped to a guillotine in back-to-back fights. The submission ace fell to former lightweight champ Anthony Pettis in August. For Lamas, it marks his fifth career submission win.Dariush outpoints MagomedovLightweight Beneil Dariush (14-2) improved to 7-1 in his last eight fights, defeating Rashid Magomedov (19-2) via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).Dariush immediately said he felt the effects of Mexico Citys high altitude, although it didnt prevent him from a victory. Fighting out of Kings MMA in Southern California, Dariush picked his shots on the feet and did well controlling position against Magomedov in the clinch.Thats where the majority of the fight took place. The two spent some time at a boxing range, trading punches, but the bout was won in the clinch. Dariush scored points with knees and consistently put Magomedovs back to the fence. The overall stats were close, however.Dariushs only loss in the last two years came via submission to Michael Chiesa in April. Magomedov suffered the first loss of his UFC career.Grasso successful in UFC debutMexican strawweight Alexa Grasso enjoyed a successful UFC debut, defeating Heather Jo Clark via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).Grasso (9-0) outlanded Clark (7-6) 80-to-37 in total strikes according to Fightmetric. Grasso strung together a few good combinations early in the bout and popped Clark with several kicks to the body. Clarks nose was bloodied early in the fight. The 23-year-old Grasso appeared to slow down a bit in the third, but Clark couldnt mount a comeback. The loss was Clarks second in a row. She came up short to Polish title-challenger Karolina Kowalkiewicz in May.The UFC signed Grasso away from all-female fight promotion Invicta FC earlier this year. She has finished four of her nine career victories via knockout. Eli Manning Womens Jersey .875,000, avoiding arbitration. RIO DE JANEIRO -- When he wakes up in the morning, Kyrie Irving first looks at the scar stretching across his left knee, an enduring symbol of his journey over the past year. Its been quite a climb. Its crazy to see how its worked out, he said.At this time last summer, Irving, the U.S. Olympic teams ankle-breaking point guard -- and kid brother to his doting teammates -- was at a personal low point.Playing in his first NBA Finals in 2015, Irving shattered his kneecap while banging into Golden States Klay Thompson in Game 1. The freakish injury not only cost the Cleveland Cavaliers a possible championship, but brought more criticism to Irving, who played in just 11 games in college because of a foot injury and has battled assorted maladies during his career. He had been knocked down before, never like this. Bedridden at first, he graduated to crutches and endured grueling hours of rehab.Once he started running again, he never stopped.Irving returned from the injury and, along with LeBron James, led the Cavs to a historic comeback championship -- Clevelands first since 1964 -- this season. And as if lifted from a Hollywood screen play, Irvings game-winning 3-pointer in Game 7 came from just a few feet from where his knee buckled the previous June.Just 24 and maybe only beginning to tap into his potential as a player, Irving is now on the verge of pulling off a rare doubleheader -- an NBA and Olympic title in the same year.It would be great, he said Tuesday following practice. I just want to get it done.It wont be easy. Nothing has been in the Rio Games for the U.S. team, which escaped three close calls while going 5-0 during pool play. The Americans, seeking their third straight gold medal, will face another tough test in Wednesdays quarterfinals against Argentina, the last team to beat them in Olympic competition and an experienced group featuring future Hall of Famer Manu Ginobili and a handful of current and former NBA players. In his first Olympics, Irving knows the stars and stripes on their jerseys are also bullseyes. All the pressure is on us every single time we take the floor, which I happily accept, said Irving, who tied a U.S. record with 12 assists in a win oover France.dddddddddddd You gotta respect those guys. They make great offensive plays as well as defensively. You gotta be well prepared.Irving has learned there are no shortcuts to greatness.Following his injury, Irving received support from family and friends. However, he realized that if he was going to make it back and be better than ever, there was only one person who could lift him.I just had to figure it out on my own, he said. I was going to be the only one who was going to get myself out of that funk. I just had to climb out of it. It really took a lot of pride, a lot of anger, built-up rage that I just had to let go. I just had to attack my rehab and attack the little things that were going to make the biggest difference when I came back.Irving has been re-united on Team USA with coach Mike Krzyzewski, who recruited him to Duke but only had him on the floor for a fraction of his freshman season. When Irving considered going pro, it was Coach K who encouraged him to take the leap.Theyve remained close and Irving has had to accept his coachs praise and wrath.I dont think we would be able to speak genuinely about each other if we didnt have a genuine relationship, Irving said. Im very fortunate to have a mentor like that and have a guy like that in my corner. His teammates have Irvings back as well.Stars in their own right, theyve watched him mature during his short stint on the national team. They also appreciate the work and sacrifice that went into his recovery. That just shows how relentless he is, U.S. center DeAndre Jordan said. Hes a warrior. I have so much respect for Kyrie. A lot of guys could feel sorry for themselves, but that wasnt him. He came back with a vengeance, had a hell of a season, led his team to an NBA Finals and ultimately to a championship.I have a lot of respect for that guy as a leader. While the past year has been richly rewarding and satisfying for Irving, theres unfinished business.Im glad, but its not over yet, he said. I still have one more thing to do and thats get a gold medal with this great team. ' ' '

The trick now for Virginia Tech is not believing the hype.Fresh off a 49-0 victory against Boston College that matched their largest victory margin in an Atlantic Coast Conference game, the Hokies welcome East Carolina this weekend. The Pirates (2-1) figure to be especially motivated after a 20-15 loss to South Carolina in which they had four trips inside the Gamecocks 20-yard line that yielded nothing because of three turnovers and a missed field goal.As we move forward, we have to understand that those things we did from a mistake standpoint, we were able to see that very easy on tape, first-year Pirates coach Scottie Montgomery said this week.Sometimes when you lose games, guys want to look around and try to figure out why we lost. This week, it was very clear why we lost. The Hokies (2-1), meantime, posted their first shutout since 2012 and limited the Eagles to 124 yards. And they have history on their side in the series -- as motivation. The Pirates have won the past two meetings, each time by a touchdown, so the Hokies know they are a formidable opponent. Its a great team they have our respect, defensive tackle Ricky Walker said. Were just getting ready to face these guys. ... They have our respect. Were just looking forward to playing them Saturday inside Lane.Hokies first-year coach Justin Fuente asks his team to break the season down into 12 one-week challenges, to dismiss the past and focus on the future. Its an approach that seems to resonate with his team. It helps that East Carolina has won six in a row against teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference.I think it starts with us, Hokies linebacker Tremaine Edwards said. We have to prepare this week, come out to practice each and every day, prepare like a team, prepare to go get a win, prepare to go 1-0.Fuente knows the Hokies rout of Boston College can present a challenge going forward.Thats why you see upsets every week. Thats why you see disappointing performances, because these kids have other things that are going through their lives as well, on top of the football games, he said. You have exams and girlfriends and family members and all sorts of things, so maintaining your focus week in and week out, the emotions, the ups and downs, the bottom line is there are some games you play on an emotional high and some games where you have to work really hard to get up for.But we lay the groundwork that its 12 one-game seasons, and regardless of the outcome, you have to turn the page and throw your focus into the next game is the only way I know how to do it.Approach every Tuesday the same: the same level of intensity, the same demanding demeanor that we have on the practice field. Were not going to settle for anything less than our guys best. And thats what I told them yesterday, in so many words. If you think this Tuesday is going to be any different than last Tuesday, youre wrong. We absolutely have things that we need to fix, and a great focus that weve got to bring into this game. BEREA, Ohio -- Following his unceremonious exit from Washington, Robert Griffin III left behind a note in his locker that encouraged forgiveness and a positive attitude. In Cleveland, hes seeking redemption.Benched and booted by the Redskins, Griffin has a fresh start with the Browns, who are hoping a player who flashed great promise and potential just a few years ago can find it again.Unable to change his past, RG3s eyes are fixated ahead.Im moving forward, he said.Griffins comeback will be the main story line during training camp for the Browns, who underwent yet another monumental overhaul during the offseason and have placed one of the NFLs worst teams in the hands of coach Hue Jackson. With a history for mentoring and refining young quarterbacks, Jackson appears to be the perfect person to resurrect Griffin, a former rookie of the year slowed by injuries who didnt take a single snap during the 2015 regular season. The Browns, with a laughable track record for developing quarterbacks, signed Griffin to a two-year, $15 million contract in March. Although Jackson hasnt formally selected Griffin as his starter, the 26-year-old is expected to line up behind center when Cleveland opens the season on Sept. 11 at Philadelphia. Before then, Griffin needs to knock off the rest of the rust that was apparent during the teams spring minicamps. Griffins explosiveness and mobility seems to have returned following two knee surgeries, but his throws were off target and he lacked touch on deep passes. In time, those components of his game should improve.Griffin, too, may have to work on his off-field game. His fall in Washington was accentuated by a rift with some teammates, who resented the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner and failed to have his back when things began to crumble.Hes got a clean slate with the Browns, but Griffin said hes not overtly trying to win over teammates. He believes his actions will determine how hes perceived.Thats the best thing you can do is be who you are, show them that what you might have heard maybe some of its true, he said. But a lot of the stuff can be extremely false. You can come in here and prove to them who you really are, and thats what the blessing of a new opportunity with a new team and new organization has blessed me with -- a chance to just go out, be myself and let guys make their own determination about who I am.Here are some other things to watch aas the Browns, who havent had a winning record since 2007, open training camp:CROWELLS MISTAKE: Running back Isaiah Crowell caused a recent firestorm by posting a horrific illustration to protest recent shootings by police.dddddddddddd Crowell apologized for his actions and pledged to donate his first game check next season (more than $35,000) to a fund for fallen officers. But while Crowell has tried to make amends, it remains to be seen if its enough to satisfy fans. The Browns are under pressure to release Crowell, their leading rusher last season.HUE TURN: With boundless energy, Jackson is determined to make the Browns not only competitive but champions. His second stint as a head coach -- he led Oakland to an 8-8 record in 2011 -- is a monumental challenge as Cincinnatis former offensive coordinator leads a franchise stuck in a cycle of losing and dysfunction.HEALING HADEN: Former Pro Bowl cornerback Joe Haden will likely be eased into camp as he continues to recover from offseason ankle surgery. Haden was limited to just five games last season because of concussions and his NFL career could be at a crossroads. Clevelands defensive backfield has been overhauled with a mix of veterans and rookies fighting for jobs. Troubled cornerback Justin Gilbert may be down to his last chance after two underwhelming seasons.LINE DANCING: Clevelands offensive line, once considered the teams strongest unit and anchored by Joe Thomas, has a new look following the departures of Pro Bowl center Alex Mack and starting right tackle Mitchell Schwartz. Cam Erving struggled as a rookie playing both guard spots, but the Browns are giving the former Florida State standout a chance to replace Mack. Alvin Bailey and rookies Shon Coleman and Spencer Drango will battle for the job at right tackle.PLAYMAKERS WANTED: Jackson has made fixing Clevelands receiving group a top priority, and its a massive project. He was spoiled with the Bengals, who had star A.J. Green and others as targets. The Browns believe rookie Corey Coleman, the No. 15 overall pick who scored 20 touchdowns last season for Baylor, can have an immediate impact. Quarterback-turned-receiver Terrelle Pryor continues to show promise as a playmaker.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '

ST. LOUIS -- This time, the St. Louis Cardinals got some help from the bad weather. Only hours after enduring two rain delays totalling 5 hours, 32 minutes that pushed the end of their loss to the Kansas City Royals to 3:14 a.m. Friday, the Cardinals never got started against the San Francisco Giants. The Giants and Cardinals were postponed by inclement weather Friday night -- no rain had fallen at Busch Stadium before the game was called -- that included tornado warnings in the area. The teams will play a day-night doubleheader Saturday. San Francisco needed a break, too. "You hate to see a rain-out but we probably have a couple of guys who could use a day. So, a split-doubleheader," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "Its the last time we see this club, so it leaves no choice in the manner right now. Well play two." Both teams will stick with their scheduled starters for both games Saturday. The Giants Matt Cain (4-2) will face Shelby Miller (5-3) in the opener, followed by Madison Bumgarner (4-3) vs. Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright (7-3) in the nightcap. Thats if weather permits. The forecast calls for a 60 per cent chance of rain throughout the day. The postponement was the 26th this season, including one after the Boston Marathon bombings. The 26 tops the total for all of last season, according to STATS. Last year there were 21 games postponed. The Cardinals closed their locker room and didnt make manager Mike Matheny available to the media after the game was called. The off night came at a good time for St. Louis. Many of the players didnt leave after Thursdays game until around 4 a.m. Friday. The late-night loss to Kansas City on snapped a four-game winning streak for the Cardinals. They went 20-7 in May. Matheny was asked prior to the game against the Giants if the previous marathon evening would adversely affect his team. "Ill tell you later," he said. "The guys all slept in. We had a late arrival day today. Im not sure how exactly its going to affect them. We havent had a really favourable schedule. Weve had plenty of these days where we didnt get much sleep and right back on the horse the next day. "We made it very clear, this could be an opportunity to complain and have an excuse," Matheny said. "I just dont think its in our nature." Bochy said the delay did provide needed rest for players such as Angel Pagan. The outfielder has nursed a hamstring injury throughout May. "Right now, Ill put it at 50-50 tomorrow," Bochy said. "He still feels a little something there, so well wait until he gets there tomorrow and well look at him. It wont be in the first game, but maybe the second. If not, than Sunday." Bochy also announced prior to the game that Pablo Sandoval would likely miss the entire St. Louis series if not a full week because of a strain in his right foot. An MRI showed a treatable injury, Bochy said, and the team hopes to keep their third baseman off the disabled list. San Francisco arrived in St. Louis having lost five of eight. On Thursday, the Giants beat Oakland to end a three-game skid. They play 12 of their next 14 games on the road. Lassana Diarra France Jersey .C. -- Calgarys Kevin Koe did it the hard way again. Who: Samsung Galaxy (South Korea, 5-1) vs. Cloud9 (North America, 3-3)When: Thursday, Oct. 13 at 6:00 PM Eastern/3:00 PM PacificWhere: Chicago Theatre in Chicago, IllinoisWhats at stakeFor Samsung Galaxy, this is the culmination of a two-year rebuild that has finally reached its end point. The organization was left in ruins after the 2014 World Championships when the two best teams in the world, Samsung White and Samsung Blue, decided to leave South Korea for bigger contracts in China. Instead of buying flashy names to replace them, Samsung went into a full rebuild, breaking down every remnant of the old championship teams and starting again from the rubble foundation. It hasnt been easy for Samsung these past two years. In 2015, it was a joke of a franchise. The teams it fielded were bad, and the former world champion organization was seen as cheap for not paying its players to stay or bringing it established names to replace them. But Samsungs two-year blueprint has come to fruition, and each starting member on the team has been systematically placed to get Samsung where it is now. The addition of veteran Kang Ambition Chan-yong at the start of the year was the piece that truly put Samsung back in a position of playoff contention, giving the youthful team a captain it could rally around.Samsung [started] from the bottom, Ambition said. People could watch us grow, and I think thats why [they] think were such a fun team [to watch].Cloud9, Samsungs opponent, is just trying to prove it belongs in the quarterfinals. After a disappointing group stage, the last North American team left in the competition needs to pick its game up on all corners of the map if it wants to have any chance of making it to the semifinals.dddddddddddd.But I guess the stars aligned for us, said William Meteos Hartman. I think we agree as a team we s--- the bed this group stage. And were just going to try to use the motivation of being the only NA team here.C9 was able to get ahead early against tournament

NEW YORK -- Only once has a left-handed pitcher won 20 games for the Toronto Blue Jays.J.A. Happ is getting close to becoming the second.Happ can become the first 17-game winner in the major leagues Wednesday afternoon when the Blue Jays conclude a three-game series with the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.Toronto has had five pitchers get to 20 wins in team history and the only southpaw was David Wells who won 20 during the 2000 season. Like Wells, Happ is in his second stint with the Blue Jays.Happ won 19 games and made 50 starts after Toronto obtained him from the Houston Astros in a 10-player deal on July 20, 2012. After he was 11-11 with a 4.22 ERA in 2014, Toronto traded him to Seattle for outfielder Michael Saunders but last November, the Blue Jays signed him to a three-year deal following two months with the Pittsburgh Pirates.Happ has approached 20 wins by going 10-0 with a 2.66 ERA in his last 11 starts. After allowing four hits and getting seven strikeouts in seven innings during last Wednesdays 7-0 win over the Tampa Bays, he joined Roger Clemens in 1997 and Roy Halladay in 2003 as the only Toronto pitchers to have a run as good.Clemens and Halladay were 12-0 in 13 starts and both were 20-game winners. Jack Morris in 1992 and Pat Hentgen are the only other 20-game winners in Toronto history but all of those hurlers were right-handed.Hes a different pitcher, hes a better pitcher, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. Hes a new guy, he gets ground balls now, he never used to do that and that bails you out of some innings. And he also gets strikeouts.Happ can achieve two things with a win Wednesday. He can join Wells and Jimmy Key as the only Blue Jays left-handers to win 17 games. Key did it in 1987 and 1991 while Wells achieved it in 1999 and 2000.Happ can also become the fifth Blue Jay to win at least 11 straight decisions. Clemens and Halladay share the record of 15 in 1998 and 2003 respectively while Dennis Lamp won 11 straight in 1985 and Clemens did so in 1997.Two of Happs victories have been against the Yankees, who are batting .206 against him in three starts. He allowed one run and seven hits in six innings April 13 in Toronto and, May 26 in New York, Happ allowed one run and three hits in a 3-1 win.The Blue Jays will be looking to beat the Yankees for the ninth time in 12 meetings after storming back from a six-run deficit for a 12-6 victory Tuesday. After going scoreless off Michael Pineda through five innings Toronto hit four home runs off New Yorks bullpen following a 42-minute rain delay.Russell Martin, who was in a 4-for-28 slump, homered in consecutive at-bats and got the tiebreaking two-run home run in the eighth after hitting a solo shot in the sixth. Edwin Encarnacion hit a two-run home run, giving him 34 and 99 RBI while Troy Tulowitzki had a two-run home run among four hits.It just felt like the momentum was shifting in our direction, Martin said. When everybody gets that good feeling and is kind of anxious to get back up to the plate, its a good sign. We definitely got a little bit lucky, we got Pineda out of the game. It looked like he would have his A game today, so just got to point to the sky and thank whoevers up there for helping out.The meltdown by New Yorks bullpen pushed them 5 1/2 games out of the second wild card spot. Gary Sanchez homered twice while Pineda allowed four hits in five scoreless innings before the game changed drastically for the Yankees. Its unfortunate because Michael was really good tonight, I wouldve loved to have sent him back out there, but with what he went through with that shoulder, we just felt we couldnt do it, Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. His pitch count was around 70 and it was frustrating. I was hoping it would be a quicker rain delay, but when it got to be 45 to 50 minutes, it was frustrating. The Yankees will hope there are no more drastic turnarounds against them Wednesday and hope CC Sabathia can follow Pinedas strong outing. He also will try to end a nearly two-month slump that has seen go 2-5 with a 6.41 ERA in 10 starts since June 22.He is 7-9 and two of his losses have been in games started by Happ. He allowed two unearned runs in seven innings of a 3-1 loss at New York on May 26 and two earned runs in six innings five days later in Toronto.Although Sabathia is 15-8 with a 3.20 ERA in 24 career starts against Toronto, the left-hander is 0-4 with a 3.60 ERA in his last four starts against the Blue Jays as the Yankees. While Sabathia has pitched decently in those games, New Yorks hitters have struggled by batting .189 (24-for-127) and getting two hits in 27 at-bats with runners in scoring position. Matt Milano Jersey . -- Chicago Bears cornerback Tim Jennings was selected Monday to his second straight Pro Bowl, while guard Kyle Long made it after a solid rookie season. Andre Reed Womens Jersey . After dropping their final six games of December, the Wild opened the new calendar year with four consecutive wins. Following a loss to Colorado on Saturday, Minnesota rebounded the following night to blank Nashville 4-0, but then had the tables turned on them Tuesday. Jordan Poyer Youth Jersey . But by the time the game started, the Toronto Raptors forward felt even worse. And, for three quarters, it showed as Gay shot a woeful three-for-13 from the field. Josh Allen Jersey .C. -- Al Jefferson joked that he feels he can score from anywhere on the court. ATLANTA -- The Tour Championship is a lot tougher than it needs to be for Justin Thomas. He was among three players at Hazeltine -- site of this years Ryder Cup -- on Monday, a clear signal that Thomas, Daniel Berger and Bubba Watson were being considered by Davis Love III as the final captains pick to be announced Sunday night after the Tour Championship. So instead of thinking only about East Lake, and possibly winning the FedEx Cup, theres a distraction. Its probably the hardest thing Ive ever had to deal with when it comes to not thinking about it, Thomas said after opening with a 68 on Thursday. Its one thing to come down the stretch of a tournament and not think about winning, but Ive just had so long to think about the Ryder Cup. And for people to say they dont think about it, I think is absurd. It enters my mind every round at some point. It could be worse. He could be Kevin Chappell, who didnt get invited at all. Neither did Kevin Kisner. Not one time have I been contacted by Davis, Chappell said matter-of-factly after a 66 to tie for the lead.Chappell has never won on the PGA Tour. He has three runner-up finishes this season in which someone simply outplayed him -- Jason Day, the worlds No. 1 player, at Bay Hill and The Players Championship; and Kisner at the RSM Classic at Sea Island, where Love is the tournament host. Was he offended that he didnt get an invite?I wasnt personally offended, Chappell said. But I disagree with having non-members practicing with the team. It sets a bad precedent for the players who thought they were on the bubble, or thought they had a chance.Kisner said he was not invited to Hazeltine. When asked if he was offended by that, he replied, Probably. He doesnt know why he wasnt asked to take part, and he wasnt inclined to ask Love for a reason.I figure hell call me when he needs me, Kisner said.Waiting to make the final pick just five days before the Ryder Cup starts might be more absurd than assembling a Ryder Cup Task Force that cooked up this idea. The plan was to make sure the Americans had the hot player available to them at the last minute. But to listen to the players -- those who received invitations and those who didnt -- makes it unclear if it matters whos hot.Love said last month in New York, after eight players qualified for his team, that he would have to pay attention to dozens of pplayers.ddddddddddddAnybody in the top 100 has to be on our radar because a guy could get hot the next two weeks and move himself to the Tour Championship and be in the running for the FedEx Cup, Love said on Aug. 29. And I get to pick him on Sunday night. So why not invite every American to Hazeltine who qualified for the Tour Championship and was not on the team?Maybe they already have been ruled out, which certainly appears to be the case with Chappell and Kisner, along with Memorial winner William McGirt, Gary Woodland, Jason Dufner and others.Love has said one awkward part of this process was making phone calls. He might be inclined to call those who didnt make the team on the same night he shared the good news with those who did. Because there is one more pick, perhaps he needs to wait on those calls. And so everyone waits. But is anyone paying attention to what happens at East Lake? Apparently not.Theres nothing I can do now, Watson said. Davis said its all about strategies and different things. Its not about my play. Its not about anybodys play. So I cant worry about that. That suggests that its not about performance, which runs counter to what Love said a month ago before the FedEx Cup playoffs began. The only thing I know that he told me -- and hes told everybody -- is that its about who matches up well. I dont know what that means, Watson said. I dont know if its about partners, if a guy matches up better with two people or a guy matches up better with three people. I dont know that. I know the same as you, except I got to see the course. I went and played a practice round. So I know a little bit more, I guess.Thomas doesnt quite understand, either. Hes just trying to play good golf at East Lake because that wont hurt. Why the invitations to play Hazeltine?Obviously there was some, or else we wouldnt have been there, he said.None of this will matter a week from today. The grandstands that Thomas and Watson saw set up across Hazeltine will be packed with fans. No one will be talking about who wasnt picked or who wasnt on the team. All that counts is whos playing and the score.Until then, Love is waiting until the last minute for a hot hand when that player could get nothing but a cold shoulder. ' ' '

Last years grand finalists West Coast risk missing the AFL finals if they dont find form quickly after suffering an upset 19-point loss to Collingwood. The Eagles, faced with a challenging run to September, desperately needed to bank four premiership points at the MCG on Saturday.Instead, they were outplayed by a side out of the finals equation, and were thumped 47-28 in clearances and beaten 13.13 (91) to 11.6 (72).West Coast now confront Fremantle, Greater Western Sydney, Hawthorn and Adelaide. They are unlikely to slip outside the top eight but, as coach Adam Simpson points out, thats far from impossible.Every game is big for us. Were still fighting for a top-eight spot, Simpson said.We will have to rely on other sides (if the Eagles keep losing). We need to keep winning. Otherwise, whats the point? Its not a lost cause ... weve got to be confident, got to be optimistic. But theres also the sense of reality, too, so weve got to work our way through it.Saturdays result was all the more remarkable because Collingwood forward Darcy Moore - arguably best on ground in the first two quarters - hurt his hamstring and played no part in the second half.Collingwood were simply too hard and too desperate, headlined by a club-record tally of 119 tackles. Our ability to not give up and still fight for the season has got to be as strong as it ever has, Simpson said. Were probably more concentrating on our mindset ... rather than ladder position. Were still very much alive but weve got to get our heads around what we need to work on.That list is reasonably long.Simpson lamented the way his charges folded at critical moments, easy goals from stoppages and how fragile the Eagles looked in early defence.Ruckman Nic Naitanui was sorely missed, with Brodie Grundy helping himself to 45 hitouts.Simpson was upbeat Naitanui would return from injury against the Dockers. We cant rely on one guy, Simpson said.Hes a good player and he will help us ... but we had 22 players out there. The Eagles trailed for most of the match but regained the lead early in the fourth term, when Jamie Cripps converted his set shot from a tight angle. The hosts response was overwhelming.Collingwood made a mockery of the low-scoring game, piling on four goals in the space of eight minutes. We didnt use the ball well at all but we were able to play the way we wanted to play long enough to get the job done, Magpies coach Nathan Buckley said.Taylor Adams and Scott Pendlebury tallied a combined 70 possessions, 24 tackles and 15 clearances for the hosts. OG Anunoby Jersey . Murray beat Sam Querrey 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-3 to clinch Britains opening-round victory against the United States on Sunday at Petco Park. "Im proud of the way Im playing just now, because I had to do a lot of work to get back to where I want to be," Murray said after celebrating with his teammates on the red clay court in a temporary stadium in left field of the downtown home of baseballs San Diego Padres. Tracy Mcgrady Jersey . This should be celebrated because it will not always be this way. OG Anunoby Raptors Jersey .com) - The game was all punts and field goals before Kodi Whitfields catch. SAN ANTONIO -- Gregg Popovich urged his San Antonio Spurs to raise their energy to almost maniacal levels, because winning the battle on the boards and for loose balls was critical against the athletic Golden State Warriors. The Spurs responded to their coachs message, outworking and outmuscling Golden State to take a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference semifinals. Tony Parker had 25 points and 10 assists, and the Spurs held the Warriors starting backcourt to 13 points for a 109-91 victory Tuesday night. The Spurs outrebounded the Warriors 38-36, forced 14 turnovers and limited them to 16 second-chance points. "Our energy was good," Parker said. "We got the 50-50 ball; that was huge for us tonight. It was a tough turnaround for us in Game 4. We missed an opportunity at the end and we realize that. Tonight we played for 48 minutes." Kawhi Leonard added 17 points, Danny Green scored 16 and Tim Duncan had 14 points and 11 rebounds for San Antonio. Harrison Barnes scored 25 points, Jarrett Jack added 20 and Carl Landry 16 for Golden State, but Stephen Curry was held to nine points. "I was terrible, plain and simple," Curry said. "They outplayed us as a team. Individually, I didnt have anything on either end. (I was) a step slow, my shot wasnt falling and I was trying to make plays but defensively I lost a little focus." Parker took advantage, going 9 for 16 and turning the ball over only twice in 34 minutes. His energy was just as big a spark. Parker dove over Jarrett Jack midway through the third quarter to corral a loose ball, rising to lead a fast break that resulted in a dunk by Green. Even Popovich displayed more energy, chasing referee Ed Malloy down the sidelines from the free throw line to just past midcourt while screaming and motioning for a timeout with 9 minutes left in the game. The added energy was especially evident against Curry and Klay Thompson. The Spurs held Mark Jacksons self-proclaimed "greatest shooting backcourt" in NBA history to 6-for-22 shooting. Curry was 1 for 7 on 3-pointers, while Thompson was held to four points while not even attempting a 3. "The series for us is all about the defence," Popovich said. "(Leonard and Green) did a good job; (there were) other people who did good work out there. We got a lot of mismatches. They love those mismatches, so we have to play intelligently. I thought we did that tonight. "But we followed up the defence with a board. There is no stop until the board is secured. That was our main emphasis going into the game." Curry has not missed any time since turning his left ankle late in Game 3, but the injury seemed to limit his explosiveness. Leonard stripped Curry and then outran him to the ball midway through the first quarter, feeding Parker for an uncontested layup. Curry appeared to grimace when he attempted to push off to sprint for the loose ball. "It is sore, but II came in feeling good," Curry said.dddddddddddd "I was pretty optimistic about how I could play tonight, but it didnt go that way." He played only 4 1/2 minutes in the fourth quarter, leaving the game for good with 4 minutes left and San Antonio leading 102-84. "It got to a point where they had made plays and I had to look towards Game 6," Jackson said. "It was just being smart, thats all. I didnt want to see him get hurt. Obviously, he wasnt 100 per cent. I just felt if we were going to make a run, lets make a run and then maybe get him back in, but it was just a long night for us." The Spurs led for all but the opening 6 minutes of the game and moved one game closer to advancing to their 12th conference finals in franchise history. "Nobody talks about getting this over with like youve got a rash," Popovich said. "Like you can take a pill or put some cream on it, its going to be gone. This is a war. Theyre a class team; they bust their ass at both ends of the floor. Its not about getting rid of anything. Its about going and playing and thats about it." San Antonio went on a 12-2 run to take a 102-84 lead with 4 minutes remaining. The Warriors missed two shots and had two turnovers to facilitate the Spurs run. San Antonio shot 72 per cent in the first quarter, pounding the ball inside for layups and kick outs to open shooters in taking a 10-point lead. Duncan battered Andrew Bogut early, making San Antonios first three baskets on a drive and a jumper over the Australian and on a layup against Landry off a hard pick by Tiago Splitter. San Antonio went on a 15-0 run on a series of drives to the basket and low-post moves, taking a 27-15 lead. Curry and Thompson were held to a combined four points on 2-for-10 shooting in the opening 16 minutes, but Barnes had 13 points and Jack seven. "We just missed shots," Curry said. "Early in the game I got a little off balance a couple (times) trying to get a foul. They play good defence. We didnt get into a rhythm. We just missed shots." Curry did not make his first 3 until there were 2 minutes left in the first half. The Spurs stopped going inside in the second quarter, helping Golden State rally. The Spurs returned to attacking the basket in the third, resulting in another double-digit lead. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Stadium is sure to be rocking on Saturday when Ohio State and Michigan take the football field, and geologists will find out just how much through the use of seismographs.Ohio State and Miami University professors teamed up with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to devise the FanQuakes Magnitude Scale, and have planted sensors around the stadium this year to measure the seismic activity created by fans. The scale converts the shaking coming from fans into the perceived magnitude of a naturally occurring earthquake. Ohio States stadium seats nearly 105,000.So far this season, the biggest quake came after Curtis Samuels touchdown catch at the beginning of the second half against Nebraska. The shaking lasted more than two minutes and reached a FanQuake Magnitude of 5.2.Researchers said they expect fans at Saturdays game between No. 2-ranked Ohio State and third-ranked Michigan to take it to another level. The project was conceived as a way to help students understand concepts in geology that are sometimes hard to grasp, according to a statement from Ohio State.Well feature the measurements in classes, so that undergraduates can engage with real-world data and connect it to an experience many of them have had in person, said project leader Derek Sawyer, assistant professor of earth sciences at Ohio State. At a more advanced level, well use the data to teach data reduction and collection as well as wave propagation, earthquakes and the local geology.Researchers say they have been surprised by the effects of music from Ohio States marching band.We expected that the most exciting plays would make the biggest fan quakes, and thats true, Miami University geologist Michael Brudzinski said in a statement. But sometimes the fan quakes grow even larger after the play is done, because the music starts. The music helps the fans to jump in unison, which leads to even stronger shaking of the stands.Jeffrey Fox, a seismologist at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, said fan quakes present a good opportunity to get people thinking about earthquake hazards in general. As more and more people move to and live in earthquake-prone areas, they should be aware of seismic risk, Fox said. Even in areas such as Ohio, where the risk is low, its not zero. Kenta Maeda Dodgers Jersey . With Parker having a quiet game for once, Nicolas Batum and Boris Diaw provided the scoring as France won its first major basketball title by beating Lithuania 80-66 on Sunday. It was a victory that ended a decade of frustration for Parker and a talented French generation, which lost the final against Spain two years ago and took bronze in 2005. "Given the way the meeting transpired," Ray Halbritter, an Oneida representative and leader of the "Change the Mascot Campaign," said Wednesday, "it became somewhat evident they were defending the continued use of the name. http://www.dodgerssale.com/dodgers-kenley-jansen-jersey/ . "I wrote 36 on my sheet at the beginning of the game," the Cincinnati coach said, referring the yard line the ball would need to be snapped from. RIO DE JANEIRO -- The fans chant their names, wave their flags and do a little samba in their seats whenever the Brazilians take the sand at the Copacabana Olympic beach volleyball venue. If its a lot of pressure for the hometown teams, theyre handling it well. All four Brazilian teams advanced out of pool play at the Olympic tournament, and three won their first matches of the knockout round on Friday and Saturday. After a disappointing fourth-place finish as hosts of the soccer World Cup in 2014, Brazils other national sport has thrived on its hometown sand.It is not a pressure for us, said Barbara, a Rio native, who with her partner Agatha beat China on Friday to reach the quarterfinals. We are living the dream now. Inside our hearts is joy.Beach volleyball is a passion in Brazil, as much a recreational sport on the Copacabana shore as soccer or surfing or sunbathing. And that has led to Olympic success, with the country winning 11 of 30 total medals since the sport was added to the Summer Games in 1996.So dominant were the Brazilians -- and Americans, who have claimed nine medals -- that quotas were created to limit each country to two entries (per gender) in the Olympics. And when Rio de Janeiro won the rights to host the 2016 Olympics, it was only natural that the beach volleyball venue would be on Copacabana.I fell so lucky, so honored, as a first-time Olympian to be here in my home, Barbara said. I am so proud to be a part of this Olympic year at home. The fans appear to enjoy it, too. With green and yellow shirts filling the stands and Brazilian music wafting over the security barriers onto Copacabana beach beyond, the Olympic venue has been shaking at times with the cheers for the four hometown teams.Agatha and Barbara were the first to reach the quarterfinals, followed later on Friday by the defending world champions Talita and Larissa. Alison and Bruno reached the round of 8 by beating Spain on Saturday, and the party was only slightly spoiled when the No. 2 mens team, Pedro and Evandro, lost to Russia.Still, the crowd gave the Brazilians a standing ovation on their way off the court, though part of the crowd was certainly acknowledging the 21-16, 14-21, 15-10 victory by Russia as well. Here on Copacabana, they know how to play, Russias Nikita Liamin said. TThey know the good play, and they know how it is done.ddddddddddddTwo-time Olympian Ana Paula, who is working with the stadium entertainment crew in Rio, agreed. At one break in the match, she introduced American Randy Stoklos, a five-time world champion and volleyball hall of famer who played before the sport was added to the Olympics. We might have built this stadium, but the Brazilians really made this sport, he said to a huge cheer. All of the Brazilians knew who he was, Ana Paula said. Its because Brazil really, really loves beach volleyball. Its because volleyball -- its been in our DNA.Ana Paula said she thinks volleyball and beach volleyball have even surpassed soccer in her homeland -- in part because of the soccer teams much-lamented 7-1 loss in the World Cup semifinals. We dont talk about the World Cup, she said with a smile.By contrast, the beach volleyball players seem to be thriving under pressure.I dont think we are going to see anything like that in volleyball, said Bruno, whose uncle Oscar Schmidt is a basketball Hall of Famer and one of Brazils most celebrated athletes. The crowd is so happy, so full of happy people. And thats been a boost for all of the players -- even Brazils opponents.Spains Elsa Baquerizo and Liliana Fernandez said they were excited when the pools were drawn and they knew they would be playing Agatha and Barbara. At the beginning, I felt like, `Oh, my God. The whole stadium is going to fall down on me, Liliana said after beating the Brazilians. But we wanted to play them on Copacabana. The Spaniards had already clinched a spot in the knockout round, so they didnt feel the full pressure of 12,000 fans rooting against them. When Germanys Britta Buthe and Karla Borger drew defending world champions Talita and Larissa in the playoff round of 16, their coaches tried to cheer them up.Everyone was saying, `Oh, its such a tough draw for you guys. But we were really excited, Buthe said after the Brazilians eliminated them in straight sets.We would have liked it if we would have played for it and won. We werent able to experience it, she said. But still I think this is one of our best memories, even if it did end. ' ' '
