ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Darius Slay took the field for Detroits first practice of training camp with his contract concerns in the past.Slay signed a four-year extension with the Lions worth about $50 million, a deal that lasts through the 2020 season. The 25-year-old cornerback was heading into the fourth and final season of his rookie contract, and now Detroit doesnt have to worry about losing him to free agency in 2017.I know the organization, they love me. I love them, Slay said. They gave me a great opportunity. I put a lot of good tape on film. I was very important to the team, and Im glad to still be here. The Lions announced Slays extension shortly before practice Friday. His contract had been one of the teams biggest unresolved issues during the offseason. Slay has become an important part of the Detroit secondary, and the Lions hope hell be valuable for years to come.Darius earned this extension, and we are happy to reward him accordingly, general manager Bob Quinn said in a statement. We also are pleased to have finalized this now so the team and Darius can focus on the start of training camp and preparation for the upcoming season. The other big bit of news from the Lions on Friday was injury-related. Linebacker DeAndre Levy was put on the active non-football injury list. Neither Levy nor coach Jim Caldwell elaborated on what the problem was.Slay has played in 45 games for the Lions, making 36 starts. He has 149 tackles (119 solo) in his career, with four interceptions and 35 pass defenses. He said he became pretty emotional after the deal was done.I tried to hold my tears in, but I couldnt too long, because of where I came from, he said. Two years ago, the Lions were unable to work out an extension with Ndamukong Suh when he was entering the last season of his contract. They ended up losing him to free agency.Detroit avoided that scenario with Slay, a player who has progressed well since the Lions drafted the Mississippi State standout in the second round in 2013.Thats the plan. You know, build our own through the draft and find good guys and then extend them and keep them here, team president Rod Wood said. Its a lot easier when you know the guy than signing him from free agency when youre hoping that you know him. So were really happy that it worked out this way.The Lions signed Levy to a contract extension around this time last year, then he missed almost the entire season because of hip problems. He stopped to talk to reporters after practice Friday, but the exchange became a bit amusing when he referred questions about his injury to Caldwell -- over and over again. At one point, he was asked how frustrating these injury problems have been. Its just a little stress -- that Caldwell probably could describe better than I could, he said. For his part, Caldwell gave no details about the injury but said Levy is still a big part of the teams plans. If it was something long-term that we deemed as being long-term, you certainly know I would let you know that, Caldwell said. We want to be a little bit prudent in terms of how we deal with it.Safety Don Carey was also put on the active NFI list.---Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL Cheap NFL Jerseys 2020 .Y. -- Marcell Dareus and the Buffalo Bills defence made life miserable for Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco. SAN DIEGO -- Eric Hosmer stood in the middle of the field, holding up a trophy. He hopes to do it again with the Kansas City Royals this fall.Hosmer and Salvador Perez homered off former Kansas City teammate Johnny Cueto during a six-pitch span in the second inning, Hosmer added an RBI single to become MVP of the All-Star Game and the American League beat the Nationals 4-2 Tuesday night for its fourth straight win.If the defending champion Royals reach the World Series for the third straight year, they will start at home, sweet, home once again.Hopefully this is something we can all rally upon for the second half and find a way to use that home-field advantage, Hosmer said.David Ortiz found himself in the middle of the most touching moment at Petco Park, embraced by his AL teammates near first base after exiting his final All-Star Game. The popular Big Papi plans to retire at 40 after this season with Boston.Kris Bryant of the Cubs led the parade of sparkling young talent with a first-inning home run. The Yankees Dellin Betances flashed his 100 mph heat, and Astros reliever Will Harris came on to throw a called third strike past Cardinals rookie Aledmys Diaz on a 3-2 pitch on the outside corner with the bases loaded to end the eighth.Royals reliever Kelvin Herrera pitched a hitless sixth for the AL, which will open the Series at home for the 11th time in 14 years since the All-Star winner has been used to determine the hosts for Games 1 and 2.Kansas City became baseball royalty last fall, bursting to a 2-0 lead over the New York Mets at Kauffman Stadium, where Cueto pitched a two-hitter in the second game. The Royals won in five games for their first title since 1985.This year, Kansas City is languishing at 45-43, seven games off the AL Central lead and in the middle of the wild-card race.We know how much that home-field advantage helped us, Hosmer said. It just brings that sense of comfort to the team and gives you a jumpstart for the whole Series. The team with home field has won the World Series six of the last seven times and 24 of the past 30.Clevelands Corey Kluber pitched a 1-2-3 second inning for the win, and Zach Britton induced Nolan Arenados game-ending, double-play grounder for the save as the AL cut its deficit to 43-42 with two ties. The NL has outscored the AL overall, 360-359.Ortiz wore spikes with gold-colored bottoms and matching batting gloves to mark his 10th All-Star selection and delivered the AL batting order to umpires at home plate. He gave a pregame pep talk to his teammates, hit a smash down the first-base line that Anthony Rizzo snagged to rob him of a potential RBI double in the first and walked against Jose Fernandez in the third. When Edwin Encarnacion came out to pinch run for him, Ortiz waved to the crowd and then spent his AL teammates came out of the dugout to exchange hugs as the crowd of 42,386 rose in tribute.I was supposed to hit a home run in my second at-bat. My boy told me he was going to throw me a fastball, and the first pitch was a changeup, Ortiz said. Then 3-2 he threw me a slider and Im like, `Are you trying to break my back? But he said it was the catchers fault.Fernandez admitted, I couldnt believe that I was actually pitching to him. We both looked at each other and smiled. He signed the jersey I brought for him, the 23-year-old Miami Marlins ace said. The All-Star Game returned to San Diego for the first time since 1992 at Jack Murphy Stadium. Just before this first pitch, commissioner Rob Manfred joined Rod Carew, his family and the family of late Padres great Tony Gwynn and named the batting titles after the two Hall of Famers, giving Gwynn the NL honor and Carew the AL championship.Gwynn died of salivary gland cancer two years ago at age 54.Sailors dressed in white lined the foul lines and outfield warning tracks for the national anthems. The Tenors, a British Columbia-based group, changed an O Canada lyric to Were all brothers and sisters. All lives matter to the great, and one held up a sign reading All Lives Matter.Randy Jones threw out the ceremonial first pitch and former Padres All-Star closer Trevor Hoffman helped open, bringing the game ball to the mound from the bullpen accompanied by AC/DCs Hells Bells. With an NL ballpark hosting for the second year in a row in a streak of at least four, the AL wore white uniforms, hit last and used the Padres clubhouse on the first-base side. Ball boys in retro-style mustard-and-mud Padres uniforms lent a San Diego feel to Petco, which opened in 2004.There was a home run on the games fourth pitch for the second straight year; Bryant connected on a 96 mph Chris Sale fastball with two outs as hitters swung early in the count to beat the shadows creeping in from the left-field corner in the late-afternoon start.Bryant was part of an all-Cubs infield -- the first starting infield quartet from a single team since the 1963 St. Louis Cardinals.I think a lot of us were looking first pitch, said Bryant, who played college ball for the University of San Diego. A lot of pitchers are coming into the game trying to light up the radar gun a bit. That was the highlight for the NL Central-leading Cubs, whose fan base was pumped up by a fast start and dreams of the teams first title since 1908.Mike Trout, the All-Star MVP in 2014 and `15, singled in the first for a five-All-Star Game hitting streak -- only Mickey Mantle, Joe Morgan and Dave Winfield (seven each) and Stan Musial, Willie Mays and Nellie Fox (six apiece) strung together more. The lead was short-lived, with Hosmer and Perez going deep for a 3-1 lead in the second, sandwiched around Mookie Betts single. Cueto was hard to miss in the center of the field, wearing lime green and orange spikes. This morning I got up and didnt feel well. That is not an excuse, Cueto said. I just left two pitches up, and that was the story.Hosmer, the first Kansas City player to homer in an All-Star Game since Bo Jackson in 1989, made it 4-1 in the third against Fernandez with a one-hopper off Bryants left arm that bounced into left field for an RBI single. Marcell Ozuna cut the gap with a run-scoring single off Aaron Sanchez in the fourth. When it was over, Hosmer said he was giving the midnight black truck he earned with the MVP award to his dad, Michael, who stood off to the side.So he can stop stealing all my cars, Eric said. Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell believes the club are in a powerful position going forward on and off the pitch following an AGM on Wednesday. The Scottish champions posted a small profit in the last financial year, and under Brendan Rodgers have a 10-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership after the opening quarter of the campaign.Celtic are chasing a sixth successive title and have also reached the final of the League Cup in a season in which the club has returned to the Champions League group stage after an absence of three years. Lawwell said: We are very well placed. The strategy will remain the same. We have to create value, we have to build and create Champions League players, and everything we do is centred around that. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers and Peter Lawwell at the clubs AGM We will continue to invest in intellectual capital and where financial capital is limited we must be cleverer than everyone else in terms of player recruitment, our coaching and our sports science and we will continue to do that.We have a very strong financial foundation to take the club forward and thats the result of what we have done over the years. We have a fantastically equipped club and we have great infrastructure and we have to keep progressing and progressing and thats what everyone is focused on here. Getting better and better in everything we do is what we are all focused on to optimise the potential of this magnificent football club. Ronny Deila paraded the Scottish Premiership trophy for the second time last season Lawwell paid tribute to Ronny Deila after the Norwegian delivered the last two titles and a League Cup in 2014.But he revealed the failure of Celtic to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League and win more domestic trophies ultimately cost Deila his job.Lawwell said: Overall, its been a good year off the park. On the park, its fair to say that we didnt meet expectations. In the previous year we felt there was progress and we had reasonable European performance with Ronny. We had won the league and the League Cup and we were hoping for the treble. But that progress didnt happen for many reasons. At the turn of the year we had a chance of a treble and it was disappointing we didnt get closer to that and the European campaign wasnt up to scratch. Celtic fan group the Green Brigade put on a display before a Champions League tie in October It would be fair to say that we didnt meet expectations. Ronny decided to move on and he left as a champion, a double-champion, and he kept the run of titles going to five-in-a-row and he should take a lot of credit for that. Hes a very fine man and we wish him all the best for the future.Off the park, we continued to build the club and continued to learn and do the right things, which means we are in an excellent place, while there was room for improvement on the park.Meanwhile, Celtic also confirmed at the meeting that the board members plan to meet with the shareholders behind Resolution 12 in the next week. The group first raised concerns over the governance of Scottish football which they believe cost Celtic Champions League income in 2013 and have been in contact with UEFA and the SFA over the issue.Upgrade to Sky Sports now to watch Man Utd v Arsenal this Saturday and get the first six months half price! OCEANPORT, N.J. -- Leaving Monmouth Park hours after Triple Crown winner American Pharoahs triumphant return to the races in last years Haskell Invitational, track president Bob Kulina already was thinking ahead. The guy who has been around the Jersey shore track since the early 1970s knew nothing could top the spectacle of American Pharoah: 60,000 fans standing and cheering as the champion charged down the stretch in his first race as the first Triple Crown champion in 37 years.Kulina, though, caught some racing luck for Sundays 49th running of the Haskell: Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist vs. Preakness winner Exaggerator, with Pharoah trainer Bob Baffert in the mix with American Freedom.I have to tell the truth, Kulina said this week. A year ago Sunday driving home, if you told me I was looking at this type of race the year after American Pharoahs Triple Crown and Haskell victory, I would have said `Sign me up now.Theres plenty of storylines:- The Nyquist-Exaggerator rivalry resumes. Nyquist won the first four meetings, including the Breeders Cup Juvenile and the Derby. Exaggerator ended the streak -- and any chance for another Triple Crown try -- by handing Nyquist the only loss of his career in the Preakness.- Baffert has won five of the last six Haskells and is seeking a ninth win in Monmouth Parks showcase race.- Its the first time the top three Derby finishers -- Nyquist, Exaggerator and Gun Runner- are running in the Haskell. Its the first time since 2010 that its Derby winner vs. Preakness winner.- On the local front, trainers and brothers-in-law Eddie Plesa Jr. and Jason Servis will saddle long shots Awesome Slew and New Jersey-bred Sunny Ridge. Sunny Ridge is bred and owned by Dennis Drazin, an advisor to the group that operates the track. You couldnt have asked for a better field or a greater race, Kulina said. While anticipation builds for the 1 1/8-mile Haskell, theres another race for 3-year-olds worth noting on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course -- the $600,000 Jim Dandy. The field includes Belmont Stakes winner Creator, along with one-time Derby favorite Mohaymen, who ran fourth and hasnt raced since.Nyquist was made the 6-5 morning-line favorite for the six-horse Haskell, with Exaggerator next at 5-2. The Derby winner leaves from the rail; the Preakness winner from the outside post. This will bee Nyquists first race since running third in the Preakness on May 21.ddddddddddddHe then developed an elevated white blood cell count and was returned to his home base at Santa Anita. Trainer Doug ONeill now says his colt is ready to go again.Hes doing really well. His last few works have been exceptional, ONeill said. Were coming into this race with a lot of optimism. For a six-horse field, its very deep.Nyquist, owned by J. Paul Reddam, is the reigning 2-year-old champion and has eight wins in nine career starts for earnings of $5.1 million.Exaggerator, trained by Keith Desormeaux and ridden by his brother, Kent, finished 11th in the Belmont but appears charged up again for the Haskell. His entry was a surprise since hes been training at Saratoga, with plans calling for him to run in the Jim Dandy, then the Travers on Aug. 27. The Travers could be next for Nyquist, too. Those kinds of things are always fun, Keith Desormeaux said of the rivalry. Nyquist is a top horse and its always fun to outrun top competition.ONeill called it kind of a shock when he found out Exaggerator was Haskell-bound.Hes such a hard-trying horse and a class horse. His move in the Preakness was stunning, ONeill said. Weve faced him a bunch. We respect him a ton.Look for Nyquist, under jockey Mario Gutierrez, to be on or close to the lead. Exaggerator relishes a late charge to the wire, and splashed his way to victory in the Preakness.Baffert comes into the Haskell quietly, unlike last years Pharoah Fest. American Freedom was the 3-1 third choice, coming in with wins in the Sir Barton Stakes and the Iowa Derby. Gun Runner is 4-1, Awesome Slew 15-1 and Sunny Ridge 20-1.Plesa understands what hes facing in sending out long shot Awesome Slew.I feel like David fighting Goliath in this race when you look at these horses, he said.---The field, from the rail out, is Nyquist (Mario Gutierrez, 6-5), Sunny Ridge (Nik Juarez, 20-1), Awesome Slew (Paco Lopez, 15-1), Gun Runner (Florent Geroux, 4-1), American Freedom (Rafael Bejarano, 3-1) and Exaggerator (Kent Desormeaux, 5-2).---Follow Richard Rosenblatt on Twitter at: http://www.twitter.com/rosenblattap---AP freelance writer Mike Farrell contributed to this report. Teams deliberately conceding strings of penalties on their own goal line is just good tactics according to Craig Bellamy, the Melbourne mentor conceding the NRL is powerless to stop the strategy which shapes as crucial in the finals series. The Storm attack was thwarted by the tactic in their 22-8 loss to the Raiders in Canberra in round 23s concluding game on Monday.Bellamy said the practice was now commonplace.it is very common, he said.I have no doubt that happens but that is just good tactics. They were leading 22-8.We were not going to kick penalty goals we were going for tries. Having said that Canberra is not the only side doing it and I dont know what you do about it.To me it was pretty good tactics. When you are worried someone is going to get a quick play the ball, you just slow it down and give a penalty away.At the end of the day I dont have a problem with it because it has been happening for a long time.Even so, its hard to ignore the fact that fans almost certainly do have a problem with it and it is robbing the NRL of good attacking football.Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson is credited with pioneering the tactic in the Tricolours charge to the 2013 premiership.Bellamy conceded he had coached it too.Sometimes but not overly, he said.I am just worried about our defence down there. The experienced players probably can pick when there is a good opportunity to do that.A couple of years ago the Roosters were getting criticised for it but unless they start putting guys in the sinbin after two of them what do you do about it?That is up to the guys that make the rules. But you cant do it all day because you will have your line broken at some stage. This is my sixth Origin game - I have never been able to celebrate after an Origin before. The Blues men have lost 10 State of Origin series in 11 years. But it is nothing compared to the frustration felt by the NSW women.Blues captain Ruan Sims - sister of NRL stars Tariq and Korbin and England-based Ashton - hoped the NSW women could start theeir own dominant run.ddddddddddddIt hasnt sunk in what we have achieved but I am so proud of the girls, she said.I would like to see NSW start their own dynasty now.Taufa broke the deadlock after scores were 0-0 at halftime.Queensland centre Amelia Kuk was held up in the 66th minute and Maroons hooker Brittany Brearley was denied a try in the 70th due to play-the-ball interference.NSW jumped to an 8-0 lead when they were gifted a penalty in front after Bremner copped a high shot.Queenslands Ali Brigginshaw scored a 79th minute consolation try.Adding to the wins surreal nature was former NSW State of Origin forward Greg Birds presence.Bird joined the NSW womens team photo as they celebrated with the trophy on cbus Super Stadium.Bird - a big supporter of the NSW womens team - had been watching from the sidelines ahead of his Gold Coast Titans NRL clash with Parramatta. It may be the closest veteran forward Bird gets to an Origin trophy after being dropped by NSW this year. Denver Broncos general manager John Elway says Peyton Manning will be given as much time as he wants to decide whether he wants to continue playing in the NFL. The quarterback ended his 18th year in the professional ranks by winning Super Bowl 50 on Sunday in Santa Clara, where the Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers 24-10.Manning, 39, said he wanted to savour their victory before making a decision and Elway confirmed on Tuesday there was no deadline for the record-breaking signal-caller to tell him whether he was retiring or not. There is no deadline. Well let Peyton enjoy this, Elway said after the Broncos returned to Denver for a ticker-tape parade. The Denver Broncos paraded the Vince Lombardi trophy to thousands of their hometown fans Eventually well sit down and talk to him. There is no timeline for this. The important thing is, its going to be his decision. John Elway will wait for Manning to come to a decision but also has to think about Brock Osweilers position Where we get a chance to sit down and talk to him, thats up to Peyton, where he is in that process, what he thinks he can do, how he thinks he can play ... what he wants to do from here on out.Manning spent part of the regular season on the sidelines with foot and arm injuries, and the Broncos were able to give back-up Brock Osweiler a chance to shine. Brock Osweiler could take over from Manning if the 39-year-old does retire But they now have a big decision to make about Osweiler, who becomes a free agent next month and could get plenty of interest in the market from a number of teams looking for a new quarterback.Osweiler started seven games while Manning was out, going 5-2 and throwing 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. After winning Super Bowl 50, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning paraded the trophy around Disneyland with his family. LAS VEGAS -- Up until last week, Manny Pacquiao was concentrating on trying to get the death penalty restored in the Philippines. Now hes focusing on something not nearly as controversial -- his return to the ring for a Nov. 5 fight with Jesse Vargas.Working in the Senate is not easy while youre training, said Pacquiao, a freshman senator in the Philippines. You manage your time and thats what I did in training for this fight.Pacquiao wont have to juggle two jobs for at least a few weeks, with the Senate now out of session. He arrived in Los Angeles over the weekend, eager to finish final preparations for yet another fight in a pro career that has stretched 21 years. What remains to be seen is how eager boxing fans are to see him against a relatively unknown boxer who isnt given much of a chance to beat him.You can say what you want about Pacquiao and Vargas, promoter Bob Arum said. I think its competitive, other people dont. Thats their opinion.Pacquiao joined Arum on a conference call Monday to discuss the latest reinvention of the fighter-turned-politician. The talk veered from boxing into politics, and to Pacquiaos two biggest goals as a freshman senator -- forming a boxing commission in the Philippines and restoring the death penalty eliminated in the country 30 years ago.Im enjoying working hard in the Senate while performing my job as a boxer, Pacquiao said. Im enjoying both.Pacquiao, who was dropped by Nike earlier this year after saying people in gay relationships were worse than animals, is an ally of new Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, who has suggested recently that his country might be better off without its close alliance with the United States.ddddddddddddPacquiao seemed unconcerned that the comments might cost him some fans in the country where he has made millions of dollars.Everything is fine, Pacquiao said. He has clarified everything about the relationship between the U.S. and the Philippines.Trainer Freddie Roach said everything is also fine with Pacquiaos boxing career, which was on hold after a temporary retirement last year. He was impressive in April in dominating Timothy Bradley in their third fight, and Roach said he has spent weeks training in the Philippines for Vargas. Most of those training sessions were at night, as Pacquiao fulfilled a campaign pledge to be in the Senate each day it was in session. This is the best Ive seen Manny in a long time, Roach said. Hes been a lot more aggressive. The old Manny Pacquiao is coming out.Pacquiaos star has faded some since he lost in boxings richest fight ever to Floyd Mayweather Jr., and putting him in the ring with Vargas is a tough sell. Arum has added three title fights to the undercard and is going on his own in trying to sell it on pay-per-view.As part of that sales job, Arum is holding out the possibility that Pacquiao will fight unbeaten Terrence Crawford next spring should he beat Vargas. SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The emotional stories of women who say they were sexually assaulted more than a decade ago by Bill Cosby prompted California state lawmakers to approve a bill to eliminate the states 10-year limit on filing rape and related charges. On Wednesday, Gov. Jerry Brown announced that he has approved the legislation to revoke that limitation.Beginning next year, the bill will end the statute of limitations in certain rape and child molestation cases. It will also end the time limit on older cases in which the statute of limitations has not yet expired. The new law, SB813, will not, however, help women who made allegations against Cosby dating back more than 10 years, including some from the 1960s.Cosby has repeatedly denied the sex abuse allegations made by dozens of women nationwide. He is facing just one criminal case stemming from sex abuse. A trial is set to begin in June in Pennsylvania.Defense lawyer Angela Agrusa has said Cosbys accusers have stirred passions even though their stories of abuse have not been investigated by police.California lawmakers sent the statute of limitations bill to Brown without a single dissenting vote.State Sen. Connie Leyva, D-Chino, credited intense lobbying of lawmakers and the governor by advocates who kept the fight alive for the countless rape victims that have already spoken up and also those that have yet to come forward. The bills signing ells every rape and sexual assault victim in California that they matter and that, regardless of when they are ready to come forward, they will always have an opportunity to seek justice in a court of law, she said in a statement. Rapists should never be able to evade legal consequences simply because an arbitrary time limit has expired.ddddddddddddSeventeen other states already have no statute of limitations on rape, according to the California Womens Law Center. In June, Colorado doubled the amount of time sexual assault victims have to seek charges from 10 to 20 years, a decision also prompted by the Cosby allegations. Nevada extended its time limit from four to 20 years last year after testimony by one of Cosbys accusers.Advocates say victims may need years before they can bring themselves to make an allegation to law enforcement. Several women said during a spring legislative hearing on the California bill that they did not come forward sooner because they were traumatized or afraid no one would believe them. However, if they wait 10 years, victims find the door to the courthouse is slammed in her face, said high-profile Los Angeles attorney Gloria Allred, who represents 30 women who say they were sexually assaulted more than a decade ago by Cosby. None can bring criminal charges because the time limit has expired.Civil rights groups and public defenders countered that extending the time limit could lead to false convictions as evidence disappears and memories fade among victims and witnesses. They say its not fair to expect a suspect to recall an alibi decades later. It could even be counterproductive, California Public Defenders Association representative Carolyn George argued, because the time limit encourages victims to come forward and investigators to move quickly. SEATTLE -- Mike Zunino and Kyle Seager each hit a three-run homer and Nelson Cruz added a solo shot as the Seattle Mariners rallied to beat the New York Yankees 7-5 Monday night. The Yankees got two homers apiece from rookie catcher Gary Sanchez and Starlin Castro -- all off starter Cody Martin -- but three of them were solo shots.New York took a 5-3 lead in the sixth inning on a two-run shot by Sanchez, his eighth homer of the season and sixth in the last seven games, and Castros second solo homer, his 17th.Zunino, recalled from from Triple-A Tacoma on July 20, answered in the bottom half with his ninth home run -- off Anthony Swarzak (1-2) -- to put Seattle ahead 6-5. NEW YORK -- Todd Bowles isnt exactly in hurry-up mode when it comes to deciding on his starting quarterback.Ryan Fitzpatrick or Bryce Petty? Well, the New York Jets coach will make the call on wholl be under center against New England on Nov. 27 when the team returns from its bye-week break next Monday. We havent gotten there yet, Bowles said during a conference call Monday. Weve got a week to go for that. Were still evaluating everybody.Petty made his first NFL start Sunday in place of Fitzpatrick, who is recovering from a sprained knee. The second-year quarterback was 19 of 32 for 163 yards with a touchdown, but also tossed an interception with just under two minutes left in the Jets 9-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. That dropped New York to 3-7, with its playoff hopes now barely a flicker. Still, Bowles is sticking with his philosophy of playing the quarterback that gives the Jets the best chance to win. That means Bowles isnt necessarily looking to give Petty extended playing time just to see if he could be the quarterback of the future. At this point, not right now, Bowles said. I mean, he played OK (Sunday), but hes still got a lot of things to learn. You dont learn unless you play, but at the same time, were still trying to win games, too. So, well make that decision as the week goes forward.Bowles said the players will practice Tuesday and then have the rest of the week off. The coaching staff will have meetings Wednesday and then take off until next Monday. As for the quarterback decision, Bowles will talk to his staff and then give both general manager Mike Maccagnan and owner Woody Johnson a heads up on where the situation stands. And, the player he chooses might not necessarily hold the job from here on out.Going forward, it all depends on the play and the health and everything else of everybody, Bowles said. So, it could change, but it could stay the same, as well.Bowles is in a difficult situation, knowing the Jets are now simply playing out the season and Fitzpatrick is unlikely to be back next year. Geno Smith, out for the year with a knee injury, is scheduled to become a free agent. That leaves just Petty and rookie Christian Hackenberg as the quarterbacks who likely will remain on the roster next offseason. And the coach said Hackenberg, a second-rounder from Penn State, is not in the top two right now when it comes to the quarterback situation. But Bowles also has to tread lightly, realizing that looking toward the future at this point sends a message to his players that this season is already a wash. With the evaluation process, there comes a point in the future of an organization, toward the end of the season, where you try to see things if they go right here and there, Bowles said. But its always a tough decision one way or the other.Fitzpatrick sprained his left knee at Miami on Nov. 6 and was limited in practice all week while splitting first-team snaps with Petty. Bowles said it would be a game-time decision, but then decided Saturday night that Petty would start against the Rams.He was getting better, but he wasnt well enough on Saturday, in my mind, to even try to do it Sunday, Bowles said.Petty provided an early spark, complete with a standing ovation from the MetLife Stadium crowd as he took the field. He drove the Jets 99 yards on their second possession, finishing with his first NFL TD pass with a little razzle-dazzle on a toss to Brandon Marshall, who flipped it backward to Bilal Powell for a 4-yard score. But New Yorks offense was mostly quiet after that and the positive buzz was silenced by the time Petty was picked off by Alec Ogletree. The Jets also missed out on what appeared would be an easy touchdown just before halftime when Petty couldnt connect with a wide-open Robby Anderson. Bowles said Petty overthrew the ball slightly, but Anderson also slowed a bit on his route. He was calm and he was poised when he was out there, Bowles said of Petty. He threw the deep ball well. He understood his reads. He went where it was supposed to go. He hurried up some things and thats going to happen when a first-time starter comes out there. He hurried some throws and he missed a couple of reads as well. But, for the most part, other than the one turnover, he played OK.Game notes The Jets game against the Patriots was originally scheduled for Sunday Night Football, but was flexed out of the slot and moved to a 4:25 p.m. game and replaced by Kansas City at Denver. ... TE Kellen Davis (elbow) cleared waivers and was added to the Jets injured reserve list. ... Adidas NMD XR1 Suomi .J. -- Marshawn Lynch said Thursday it will be good to get back to football after the Seattle quiet talking running back wrapped up his final mandatory media session of Super Bowl week. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Skyler Howard was waiting for something good to happen to West Virginias offense. That occurred in the fourth quarter, when the Mountaineers came from 13 points down to beat Kansas State 17-16 on Saturday in the Big 12 opener for both teams. You know the snowball effect where you get one thing going wrong and the snowball just keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger? Howard said. Youre looking around like, man, we need a spark. We need something to happen. Our guys came together and kept fighting. Nobody was down or pointing fingers.Despite being held scoreless in the first half for the first time in three seasons, West Virginia improved to 4-0 for the first time since 2012. The Mountaineers broke a four-game losing streak to the Wildcats since joining the league that year.I just couldnt be more proud of our team for having the courage to go out there and do that in the second half, said West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen.Kansas State (2-2) had a chance to win it. But Matthew McCrane, who earlier made three field goals, missed a 43-yarder wide left with 2:03 left. West Virginia got the ball at its 26 and ran out the clock.Kansas State was limited to 108 yards of offense in the second half. Our execution was not as good as it needs to be, said Kansas State coach Bill Snyder. We just probably didnt move the ball like we should. We struggled offensively in the second half when we had to have some movement. Couldnt get first downs.West Virginias turnaround began when Shelton Gibson caught a 52-yard pass near the end of the third quarter and KaRaun White caught a 7-yarder on fourth-and-6 four plays later. Justin Crawford ran nine yards on first-and-goal and he finished the drive with a 1-yard TD run with 13:41 left to cut the deficit to 16-10.A 31-yard punt later gave West Virginia the ball back at its 43, annd Howard converted a third-down pass to KaRaun White at the Kansas State 9 before scrambling to find Jovon Durante in the right corner of the end zone from 7 yards out with 6:11 left for the final margin.dddddddddddd.I saw a little window and we took it, said Howard, who finished 24 of 41 passes for 298 yards with one interception. In the grand scheme of things, we make that play a lot in practice. But to finally do it in a game, it paid off.West Virginia squeaked by for the second straight game. A week ago the Mountaineers were ahead of BYU by 16 points in the fourth quarter and needed Maurice Flemings interception to seal the 35-32 win .Finding a way to win is the most important thing, Holgorsen said.THE TAKEAWAYKANSAS STATE: The Wildcats entered the game with the nations top defense but gave up 422 yards to the Mountaineers. Kansas State was held to 286 total yards of offense and Jesse Ertz completed 10 of 30 passes for 166 yards.Snyder said Ertz was not like he has been in the last couple of weeks. But once again, West Virginia had an awful lot to do with that.WEST VIRGINIA: The Mountaineers left plenty of points off the board. Rushel Shell fumbled the ball away at the Kansas State 3 late in the third quarter, and Josh Lambert earlier missed a 30-yard field goal.POLL IMPLICATIONSWest Virginia could get enough votes to sneak into the AP Top 25 poll but needed a more convincing win to ensure that happens. The Mountaineers entered Saturdays game four spots out of the poll.UP NEXTKANSAS STATE: Hosts Texas Tech next Saturday.WEST VIRGINIA: Heads into a bye week before playing its first true road game of the season at Texas Tech on Oct. 15.---AP College Football website: www.collegefootball.ap.org ' ' '

LOS ANGELES -- Nneka Ogwumike scored 17 of her 23 points in the first half, Candace Parker made a key block in the closing seconds and the Los Angeles Sparks held off the Indiana Fever 94-88 on Wednesday night.Los Angeles was ahead 80-60 with 6:22 remaining but Indiana stormed back.Briann January made two free throws with 21.6 seconds left to pull Indiana to 89-85, and after Candace Parker missed two free throws, Tiffany Mitchell sank a 3-pointer to make it 89-88. Los Angeles pushed it to 91-88 after two free throws by Essence Carson and Parker blocked Januarys 3-pointer on the other end. Parker sealed it with a 3-point play.Ogwumike was 10 of 14 from the field and Parker finished with 20 points for Los Angeles (17-1), which is ranked first in the AP power poll. Jantel Lavender and Kristi Toliver each scored 15 points for the Sparks, who jumped out to an 11-0 lead and never trailed.Mitchell made four 3-pointers and scored 20 points for eighth-seeded Indiana (7-11). Auction drafts can be a lot of fun, and the appeal at its simplest form is this: You can get any player you want if youre willing to pay the price. Its hard to argue with that. But as auctions become the way to go in many fantasy leagues in 2016, they also require much more time -- sometimes around 3.5 hours in baseball leagues with large rosters -- and over two hours in fantasy basketball and football leagues.Thats where the traditional snake-style draft has a big advantage. Not only is it faster, it also require less mental energy and isnt the exercise in patience that an auction league often is -- just ask the guy who left himself with $8 to spend on his final eight players. Can you say nap time?Last season, I was adamant that Stephen Curry deserved the top spot in fantasy drafts ahead of the likes of Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant and James Harden, and that worked out as well as anyone could have imagined as Curry put up career-best numbers on his way to a second consecutive MVP award. Where I missed was the rookie class, which saw Karl-Anthony Towns, Kristaps Porzingis and Devin Booker put up incredible numbers for first-year NBA players. It was very difficult to see that coming. At the risk of irritating the guy on Twitter who claimed Dwyane Wade should be the top shooting guard on fantasy draft boards this season, heres a look at my ultimate draft board if everything goes exactly to plan in a 12-team, eight-category league.Use this as a guide to help you in your fantasy drafts, and adjust as necessary if you play in 10- or 14-person leagues. The coreRound 1 targets: Russell Westbrook, James Harden or Karl-Anthony TownsIf Im drafting first or second, its hard to go wrong with either Westbrook or Harden. Though Westbrook has the nod as the top player on our Top 200 rankings, Hardens move to point guard and eye-opening play this preseason certainly make him worthy of consideration ahead of Westbrook at pick No. 1. Both players are going to score close to 30 points a game while also providing an excellent source of rebounds, assists and steals. Both are also capable of carrying your free throw percentage, because they each shoot over 80 percent from the stripe and get there 7-10 times per game on average. Where Harden has a clear advantage over Westbrook -- aside from being eligible at both PG and SG -- is from beyond the arc, coming off a season where he made 2.9 threes per game compared to Westbrooks 1.3.The case for Towns is made if you draft fourth or fifth and he falls to you, which is happening in most drafts. Though the reigning Rookie of the Year is ranked No. 3 in our rankings, ahead of Curry (4) and Kevin Durant (5), Curry is a more popular pick at No. 3 and Durant is also going ahead of Towns in a good portion of ESPN drafts. Nabbing Towns this low is a steal, considering the numbers he put up as a rookie (54.2 FG%, 81.1 FT%, 18.3 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 2 APG, 1.7 BPG, 0.7 SPG), as long as you keep in mind that most of the top point guards are off the board by the beginning of the third round this year so selecting Towns might lock you into taking a point guard in Round 2 and/or 3.Round 2 target: Paul MillsapAdmittedly, there are a few questions surrounding Millsap. Hes 31 and being brought along slowly in the preseason following a non-surgical procedure to reduce swelling in his right knee. On top of that, Dwight Howard replaces Al Horford at center, which could shake things up because Howard is a bigger, less versatile big man than Horford is. But Millsap has long been one of the games most underrated fantasy options, putting up Draymond Green-like numbers without the fanfare. If he falls to the end of Round 2 (he has an ADP of 21.8 in ESPN leagues as of Oct. 10), Im taking my chances that Millsap has at least one more big season left in him. Anything close to the 17.1 points, 9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.7 blocks, 1.8 steals and 0.9 3-pointers he averaged last season and my team is completely stacked heading into Round 3.Round 3 target: Eric BledsoePhoenix coach Earl Watson already has announced that Brandon Knight will serve as the Suns sixth man this season, leaving the starting point-guard duties to Bledsoe. And if were being honest with ourselves, Bledsoe is the better option anyway -- an electric point guard who can push the pace and provide an excellent source of points and steals while getting a bump in assists thanks to the tremendous sharpshooting of backcourt mate Devin Booker.Bledsoe is coming off an injury-shortened season that ended in late December because of a torn meniscus in his left knee, but I like the chances of him returning to form on the young Suns roster. Its easy to forget that he averaged 20.4 PPG, 6.1 APG, 4 RPG and 2 SPG in 31 games before the injury. If Bledsoe is my first point guard, Im going to have to look for a second one in the next couple of rounds, but in a perfect world Bledsoe can serve as a second point guard who contributes additional points, assists, steals and 3s to a roster that already includes either Westbrook or Harden.Round 4 targets: Nikola Jokic or Evan FournierThe secret is out in Denver -- this Jokic kid can play! You cant wait beyond pick 50 if you expect to grab him, so if I dont take Towns in Round 1 Im waiting until Round 4 and taking the Nuggets 21-year-old who averaged 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1 steal in only 21.7 minutes per game as a rookie. With a year of experience under his belt and his minutes certain to rise in Year 2, few centers in the game have the fantasy upside of Jokic this season. Its worth noting that he shot 81.1 percent from the free throw line as a rookie as well, giving him a big advantage over 95 percent of the centers in the league in that department. If Im able to get Towns in the first round, I dont need a second center yet and am more likely to pass on Jokic for Fournier, who quietly put up big numbers last season and will see his usage rise this season following the trade of Victor Oladipo to Oklahoma City. Fournier turns 24 the first week of thee season and enters his fifth year in the league after averaging 15.dddddddddddd4 points and 2 3-pointers per game last season while also contributing as a passer (2.7 APG), defender (1.2 SPG) and marksman from the free throw line (83.6 percent). The middle roundsRound 5 targets: Devin Booker or Trevor ArizaBooker qualifies as a shooting guard while Ariza is eligible only at small forward, and both offer strong upside at the thinnest positions in fantasy hoops this season. Bookers stock isnt as high as some might expect given his huge rookie season, and thats due to the return of Bledsoe and Knight, but he doesnt turn 20 until Oct. 30 and hes lighting up the scoreboard again this preseason. At this stage in Bookers career, hes mostly a points and 3s guy, limiting his fantasy upside, but many are calling him the next Klay Thompson and theres no denying how useful Booker can be to your fantasy team as a scorer and 3-point shooter.Meanwhile, Ariza is certainly the more versatile of the two in terms of filling the box score, and its exciting to think about the potential Ariza has while playing under Mike DAntoni in Houston. As a glue player who consistently contributes steals and 3s while serving as a secondary scorer, rebounder and distributor, Ariza is a solid get at this stage in the draft.Round 6 targets: Gorgui DiengDieng may be the most overlooked player in fantasy hoops this season, and there are plenty of reasons why thats the case. For one, hes not a big-time scorer, which immediately takes him down a notch and removes him from the fantasy radar of many. On top of that, hes overshadowed on the talented young Minnesota roster by the likes of Towns and Andrew Wiggins and incoming rookie Kris Dunn, just to name a few. Lets not forget Ricky Rubio and Zach LaVine, either. But that shouldnt discount Diengs production on the floor, and as long as he continues to average right around 27 minutes this season theres no reason to think he cant continue to positively impact every statistical category like he did a season ago when he averaged 10.1 PPG, 7.1 RPG, 1.7 APG, 1.1 SPG, and 1.2 BPG while shooting 53.2 percent from the field and 82.7 percent from the line. Hes a sneaky good second center on your roster, and hes coming off a season where he appeared in all 82 games.Rounds 7/8 targets: Ryan Anderson and Julius RandleAt this stage in the draft, were talking about picks 73-96 in 12-team drafts, I love the idea of adding a power forward with a perpetual green light from 3-point land like Anderson in Houston and I also love the versatility that Randle provides entering his second season as a rebounder, scorer and underrated passer. Both of these options can help a roster, and deciding on the one to draft comes down to what the team needs at this point in the draft.Anderson has a chance to flourish under DAntoni, and you can see the potential here based on the way hes being used in the preseason. The 28-year-old veteran combined for 20 3-point attempts in games against the Knicks and Pelicans, making 11 of them, and averaged 23.5 points and 6 rebounds in those games. While Randle is a non-factor in the always important blocks and steals categories, hurting his value, he is a double-double machine and I expect his assists to rise from the 1.8 he averaged as a rookie thanks to his rare ability to pass the ball well for someone his size. The late-round fliersRounds 9/10 targets: Jusuf Nurkic and Joel EmbiidNurkic and Embiid are both players youll have to get right around pick No. 100 if you want them on your roster, and for good reason -- both are lighting it up in the preseason and gaining attention by the day.Nurkic was regarded as the Nuggets center of the future as recently as 2014-15, but the emergence of Jokic last season shifted those plans a bit. Still, Nurkic is only 22 and a huge presence in the middle with an enormous upside if he can stay healthy. In his first three preseason games, he averaged 18 points, 13.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2 steals and 1 block in only 27 minutes per game. Injuries limited him to 62 games as a rookie and only 32 last season, but at this stage in the draft thats a risk Im willing to take.Embiid, the third overall pick in 2014, is finally ready to make his NBA debut after missing his first two seasons in the league because of foot injuries. His 7-foot, 250-pound frame dwarfs teammate Nerlens Noel, and his rare skill set for someone his size has been on display in the preseason despite a minutes restriction of only 12-13 minutes per game. Embiid is a player who will require patience, because he may not be cleared to play extended minutes for a while and he isnt expected to play in the second of back-to-backs, but theres so much upside here hes worth it -- especially in dynasty leagues where you can keep him in the fold for a number of years. After pick 120 targets: Shoot for the moonAt this stage in the draft, its time to go big regardless of the risk. After all, many players drafted in this range will be cut after a week or two and can be had on the waiver wire. Your job is to find one who wont, and to unearth a gem who has a chance to be big a major contributor in one way or another -- maybe its a raw rookie with big upside, or a reserve slated to play behind an injury-prone starter, or a specialist who can carry you in a specific category. Some of the ones I like this season include versatile rookie Dario Saric in Philadelphia, bouncy big man Clint Capela in Houston and underrated stretch-4 Mirza Teletovic in Milwaukee. I also have my eyes on Allen Crabbe and Seth Curry after pick 150.There it is -- the players I am targeting in fantasy basketball drafts this season while taking ADP into consideration. To those of you in my leagues, please forget everything you just read. To everyone else, feel free to use this information to dominate your league on your path to the championship this season. League on Friday before their home game

This season has seen its fair share of exciting games, no doubt, but there might not be one that impacts the final College Football Playoff rankings more than The Game between Ohio State and Michigan on Saturday. Both teams sit in the top four of our Power Rankings, and both have playoff-worthy résumés.Power Rankings voters: Edward Aschoff, Heather Dinich, Brad Edwards, Chris Fallica, Rod Gilmore, Danny Kanell, Chris Low, Ivan Maisel, Ryan McGee, Adam Rittenberg, Mark Schlabach | How they votedPrevious rankings: Week 1?|?Week 2 |?Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Week 6 | Week 7 | Week 8| Week 9 | Week 10 | Week 111. Alabama Crimson Tide (11-0)Trending:Week 11 ranking: 1 Week 12 result:?Defeated Chattanooga 31-3Somehow, it seems that Alabamas uninspiring performance came at exactly the right time, though coach Nick Saban offered a different analysis of the Crimson Tides 22nd consecutive victory. The coach was frustrated, and rightfully so, after Alabama trailed 3-0 after one quarter and led just 14-3 at halftime. The Tide, who finished with just 332 yards, now turn their focus to rival Auburn and then an SEC title game rematch with Florida.2.?Ohio State Buckeyes?(10-1)Trending:?Week 11 ranking:?2 Week 12 result:?Defeated Michigan State 17-16Ohio State escaped East Lansing with a win over 3-8 Michigan State, which nearly derailed the Buckeyes national-title bid for the third time in four seasons. The Buckeyes intercepted a two-point conversion attempt with 4:41 to play before Gareon Conley sealed the win with another pick of Tyler OConnor in the final two minutes. Its survive-and-advance time. Michigan awaits as Ohio State returns home.3. Clemson Tigers?(10-1)Trending:?Week 11 ranking: 4 Week 12 result:?Defeated Wake Forest 35-13Clemson clinched the ACC Atlantic behind Deshaun Watson, who threw for 202 yards and rushed for two touchdowns. Running back Wayne Gallman added 161 yards and two scores. It was a workmanlike performance for the Tigers in rebounding from a loss to Pitt to stay in good shape for the College Football Playoff. South Carolina and the undetermined Coastal champ remain as Clemsons final obstacles.4.?Michigan Wolverines?(10-1)Trending:?Week 11 ranking:?5 Week 12 result:?Defeated Indiana 20-10Michigan avoided its first home loss to Indiana in 49 years by overcoming a third-quarter deficit behind a career-best 158 rushing yards from DeVeon Smith. A week after their first loss of the year at Iowa, the Wolverines sputtered offensively behind John OKorn, who was filling in at quarterback for the injured Wilton Speight. Michigan controls its fate in the conference and CFP race as it heads to Ohio State with a shot to win the Big Ten East.5. Washington Huskies?(10-1)Trending:?Week 11 ranking:?6 Week 12 result:?Defeated Arizona State 44-18Washington shook off the effects of its loss to USC to roll past the Sun Devils on Senior Day and reach 10 wins for the first time since 2000. Arizona State gained just 84 yards in the first three quarters against the Huskies stout defense, and quarterback?Jake Browning threw for 338 yards and two touchdowns. That sets the stage for a hugely significant Apple Cup on Friday at Washington State, with the winner to play in the Pac-12 title game as champion of the North.6.?Wisconsin Badgers?(9-2)Trending:?Week 11 ranking:?7 Week 12 result:?Defeated Purdue 49-20This week was business as usual for the Badgers, who started slowly on the road but scored 35 points in the final nine minutes of the first half to squash Purdue. Wisconsin has won five straight games since consecutive October losses to Michigan and Ohio State and needs a home win over Minnesota to clinch the Big Ten West. There are bigger things on the horizon, perhaps, for the Badgers, who hope they can secure a playoff bid if they win the league title.7.?Oklahoma Sooners?(9-2)Trending:?Week 11 ranking:?9 Week 12 ?result:?Defeated West Virginia 56-28Depending on your perspective of Oklahomas win Saturday, it was not as close as the score indicated -- or it was much closer. The Sooners led 28-0 less than five minutes into the second quarter but were outgained and benefited from WVU mistakes that prevented the Mountaineers from cutting the lead considerably before their second-half surge. Regardless, Oklahoma needs to beat Oklahoma State in two weeks to finish a perfect Big 12 season and state its case to the playoff committee.8.?Penn State Nittany Lions?(9-2)Trending:?Week 11 ranking:?8 Week 12 result:?Defeated Rutgers 39-0Penn State pulled away in the second half, though Rutgers never really stood a chance. The Nittany Lions allowed five first downs and 87 total yards, while?Saquon Barkley led a 339-yard rushing effort. Penn State reached nine wins for the first time since 2011. To get to the Big Ten title game -- a difficult to fathom outcome one month ago -- the Nittany Lions need a win this week over Michigan State and an Ohio State victory over Michigan.9.?Colorado Buffaloes?(9-2)Trending:?Week 11 ranking:?10 Week 12 result:?Defeated Washington State 38-24?Colorado needs a home victory over Utah on Saturday to win the Pac-12 South. In the Buffaloes win over WSU,?Sefo Liufau?joined Steven Montez as the only Colorado quarterbacks to throw for 300 yards and rush for 100 in a game. Montez did so in September against Oregon. Yes, it has been that kind of season for the Buffaloes, who most recently won nine games in 2002.10.?USC Trojans?(8-3)Trending:?Week 11 ranking:?12 Week 12 result:?Defeated UCLA 36-14Make it seven wins in a row for USC, matched nationally by only Alabama, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Penn State and Western Michigan. The Trojans again got big games from QB Sam Darnold and receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster to roll past their slumping rival. Heres another team no one wants to play, perhaps including the Pac-12 North winner. USC faces Notre Dame next week and will win the South if Utah beats Colorado.11.?Oklahoma State Cowboys?(9-2)Trending:?Week 11 ranking:?14 Week 12 result:?Defeated TCU 31-6Who wants to play Oklahoma State after it turned a 2-2 start into a path to the Big 12 title with one more victory? As fortune dictates, the Cowboys will have a shot to earn that victory against rival Oklahoma on Dec. 3. OSU rushed for 334 yards against TCU as Justice Hill and Chris Carson combined for 300 yards in handing the Horned Frogs their worst home loss since 1997.12.?Louisville Cardinals?(9-2)Trending:?Week 11 ranking:?3 Week 12 result:?Lost to Houston 36-20Louisville fell flat on Thursday to start its two-week journey outside the ACC. The Cardinals lost everything: their shot at the ACC title (as Clemson beat Wake Forest on Saturday), their shot at the College Football Playoff, obviously, and quarterback Lamar Jacksons bid to run away with the Heisman Trophy. Jackson, who was sacked 11 times by Houston, could use a big finish Saturday against Kentucky to impress the voters.13.?Florida State Seminoles?(8-3)Trending:?Week 11 ranking:?18 Week 12 result:?Defeated Syracuse 45-14?Since an early blowout loss to Louisville, Florida State has dipped under the national radar. Although it has lost twice since then, check the numbers: FSU fell by just two points to North Carolina and by just three to Clemson. The Seminoles win Saturday over Syracuse, despite four FSU turnovers, featured 654 yards of offense, including 225 on the ground from Dalvin Cook, who?broke Warrick Dunns career rushing record at FSU.14.?Western Michigan Broncos?(11-0)Trending:?Week 11 ranking:?15 Week 12 result:?Defeated Buffalo 38-0Only Alabama can equal Western Michigans 11 victories, but the Broncos havent won the MAC West. Theyll need a victory over Toledo on Friday at home to finish the job, a necessity in their drive to qualify for a New Years Six bowl game. Western Michigan took care of business against Buffalo with a 626-yard offensive output.15.?Auburn Tigers?(8-3)Trending:?Week 11 ranking: 20 Week 12 result:?Defeated Alabama A&M 55-0Auburn improved to 22-0 all-time against FCS competition and held an eighth straight opponent without a rushing touchdown in limiting Alabama A&M to 130 yards in this tune-up for the Iron Bowl. The Tigers rushed for 451 yards and accumulated 598 overall in their seventh win in eight games after a 1-2 start.16.?Florida Gators?(8-2)Trending:?Week 11 ranking:?23 Week 12 ?result:?Defeated LSU 16-10Talk about a close call. The Gators forged a ferocious goal-line stand in the closing seconds to escape Baton Rouge with a win in a game rescheduled from Week 6 and relocated from Gainesville because of Hurricane Matthew. Arsene Wenger is worried about Arsenals quest for a 20th successive Champions League campaign after seeing his side fail to win at struggling Sunderland. The Gunners remained in fourth place in the Premier League, level on points with Manchester City in third and five ahead of Manchester United in fifth, although Louis van Gaals side have a game in hand.Asked if he was anxious about clinching a top-four finish, Wenger replied: Yes, of course. We care about that and we worry about it as well because its a fight. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits he is worried about missing out finishing in the top four after their goalless draw against Sunderland. There are two leagues at the moment: the teams who are taking it a little bit easier - you see some games and you think you would like to play them now, the teams who are safe and are not going for Europe, and then you have the teams who are going for something at the front and the teams who are fighting not to go down, and they are different games. It is frustrating because we play to win the title and the fact that we do not win it is of course frustrating, like it is for many other teams.Arsenal dominated large parts of the game, but couldnt break down a resilient Sunderland side who are fighting for survival.I thought we played well in the first half, played with good domination and created some chances, but unfortunately we didnt take them and in this kind of game you have to [get] in front, Wenger told Sky Sports. Wenger looks on during the game at the Stadium of Light They defended well in fairness and overall it was a very tight game in the second half. I believe we had enough chances to win the game but not enough to score today. Its not a result we want, we wanted to win the game but we have to deal with that and focus on the next one, thats all we can do.We have to be more clinical with what we create, the final ball maybe wasnt quick enough at times and our finishing was not the best today. Wilshere set for Euros? Can Jack Wilshere make Englands Euro 2016 squad? Wenger also offered his support to striker Olivier Giroud, who is now without a Premier League goal in 14 games after another frustrating afternoon at the Stadium of Light. In the second half he got stronger, but the team go less forward to him, said Wenger. At the moment we have to support him, strikers live on confidence and the confidence we show in him as well. Jack Wilshere says it felt great to be back on the pitch during Sundays game Both sides had penalty shouts late on in the first half for apparent handballs, but Wenger dismissed the notion that either team should have been awarded a spot-kick.He said: For me none of them were penalties, because it was not deliberate handball. The guy was close to the guy taking the shot and Im against these kind of penalties.
