STANFORD, Calif. -- Erica McCall scored 17 points and No. 11 Stanford rebounded from a rare home loss to defeat Cal State Northridge 88-54 on Sunday.Eleven of 12 players scored and grabbed rebounds for the Cardinal (3-1), who lost to Gonzaga 68-63 on Friday, and 10 had assists. Stanford has not lost back-to-back games in November since 2006 nor consecutive home games to unranked opponents since 2001.The Cardinal are now 140-8 at Maples Pavilion since 2007-08.Stanford led 41-23 at the half, shot 55 percent in the second half and had a 52-29 rebounding advantage. McCall had 11 points.A 10-2 run gave Stanford an early 12-3 lead. It was 18-11 after one quarter and an 11-2 run in the second quarter made it 31-15.Brittany McPhee and Nadia Fingall combined for 28 points for the Cardinal.Hayley Tanabe had 16 points for the Matadors (2-2). LOS ANGELES -- That beleaguered bullpen is a Giant problem for San Francisco.Adrian Gonzalez hit a game-winning double in the ninth inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied past San Francisco for a testy 2-1 victory Monday night that increased their NL West lead to six games.San Francisco has lost nine times this season when leading after eight innings, setting an unwanted franchise record.Everyones grinding blood, sweat and tears for nine innings. You kind of let your teammates down, said reliever Derek Law, who gave up a leadoff single to pinch-hitter Andrew Toles in the ninth. That was a tough one. Weve been having tough ones.Since Aug. 13, the bullpens ERA has topped 6.00 in the ninth or later compared to a 1.51 mark in all other innings during that span. Those last three outs, I dont know that Ive ever seen such a tough time getting them, but were having it, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. Its a shame because we played great. They did a good job, manufactured a run, and we couldnt hold on there. Two innings after a shoving match broke out when tempers flared between Madison Bumgarner and Yasiel Puig again, the Dodgers rallied in the ninth. After Toles hit, Corey Seager singled past diving second baseman Joe Panik on a two-strike pitch from Javier Lopez (1-3), allowing the speedy Toles to reach third.Justin Turners single tied the game, and Gonzalez followed with a drive to deep right field that eluded Hunter Pence.Joe Blanton (6-2) won in relief following a tense pitchers duel between Bumgarner and fellow ace Clayton Kershaw. Both benches and bullpens cleared during the seventh-inning scuffle.Bumgarner fielded a slow tapper by Puig along the first base line and threw him out to end the inning. The left-hander punched his glove emphatically and said something that didnt appear very cordial.I didnt hear what was going on, Bumgarner said. I just got him out and he tried to stare me down or something. Thats what it looked like to me.Puig glared back and responded, and soon both teams massed near first base before the dustup ended without any punches. He asked me, `Why you looking at me? Puig said through a translator.dddddddddddd I asked him why he was looking at me.In the second, Puig doubled for the lone hit given up by Bumgarner.Maybe because it was his only hit and he was angry, Puig said. Every time I face him it seems like we have those problems. Were tired of it. It definitely motivates us and seems to have a distraction in their head.Bumgarner allowed one hit over seven scoreless innings. He struck out 10, walked none and retired his final 10 batters.Kershaw gave up an unearned run and three hits over six innings in his third start since returning from a back injury. He struck out seven and walked one. The three-time NL Cy Young Award winner retired seven in a row before leaving. The Giants led the division by 6 1/2 games at the All-Star break but lost the lead to the Dodgers on Aug. 21. Since the lead changed hands, San Francisco has dropped 16 of 27 and the Dodgers have won 18 of 28. BERKELEY, Calif. -- With the clock running down and the game on the line, California coach Sonny Dykes trusted his much-maligned defense to deliver. The defense responded with six stops from inside the 10 to seal the win.James Looney stopped Zach Moss from the 1-yard line on the final play of the game to give the Golden Bears their second straight home win against a ranked opponent, 28-23 over No. 18 Utah on Saturday.Im really proud of our defensive players, Dykes said. Those guys have taken a lot of criticism from people. The good thing is they didnt listen to it. They kept working and kept getting better.Dykes declined to use any of his three timeouts late in the game as Utah (4-1, 1-1 Pac-12) drove for a possible winning score, believing a defense that has struggled to stop opponents all season could come up with one key stand for Cal (3-2, 1-1).Im glad Coach Dykes put the faith in us, Looney said. He always has. Its not like its a new thing. He just told us to go out there and play. He knew we were playing well and he put his faith in us and we came through. The Utes had a first-and-goal at the 9 with about 2 minutes left. Dykes considered starting to use timeouts to save time for his high-powered offense that had built the lead behind four TD passes from Davis Webb but decided against it.A pair of short runs and a sack, left the Utes facing a fourth down, but a pass interference in the end zone against Marloshawn Franklin Jr. with 14 seconds gave Utah three more shots from the 2.Moss ran for 1 yard on first down, Troy Williams threw an incomplete pass on second down before Looney ended the game by wrapping up Moss before he even got back to the line of scrimmage.I had a chance to make a play, it was my play to make and I made it, Looney said. It was about time. I need to make those. Im a leader of this defense and I need to make those plays. That set off a wild celebration for Cal and sent the Utes home in disappointment following their first conference loss.A tough game to lose but proud of our guys for how they hung in there and fought back, just like weve done many times previously in the season, Utes coach Kyle Whittingham said. Were just one play away there.THE TAKEAWAYUtah: The Utes came into the game wanting to limit Cals chances and did just that by running 97 plays on offense and holding the ball for 42:01. Utah had a 21-play scoring drive in the first half that took 9:08 and kept Webb off the field. We didnt want to get into a scoring contest with them, Whittingham said. Thats their MO, thats not our MO, and thats exactly how it went down is we did not let that happen.California: The Bears were not their usual selves on offense as they struggled to run the ball and went more than 30 minutes of game time with just one first down. But Webb was good enough the rest of the game, throwing for 306 yards and a pair of scoring strikes to Chad Hansen and Demetris Robertson to give Cal the win.TIMEOUT DISPUTE: A key factor on the final drive was a disputed timeout by Utah. With the clock stopped with 14 seconds left, the officials granted the Utes a timeout they said they never called. By using the teams second timeout there, Utah felt forced to throw on second down from the 1 because it was out of timeouts and Whittingham wanted to make sure he had three shots at the end zone.It limited how many times we couldve run the football, thats what it did, Whittingham said. That was a huge factor.POLL IMPLICATIONSThe Utes will likely fall out of the poll following their first loss of the season, while the Bears will need to do more work to get into the rankings for the first time this year.UP NEXTUtah: The Utes return home to take on Arizona next Saturday.California: The Bears seek their first road win when they travel to Oregon State on Saturday.---AP college football website: collegefootball.ap.org Cheap Brooklyn Nets Jerseys . PHILADELPHIA -- Jay Bruce and Robert Gsellman made scoreboard-watching irrelevant for the New York Mets.Bruce homered for the third straight game and drove in three runs, Gsellman threw six sharp innings and the Mets moved closer to securing a wild-card berth with a 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night. The defending NL champions reduced their magic number to one with two games remaining. The Mets began the night atop the wild-card race, with San Francisco one game back and St. Louis two behind.Manager Terry Collins and players in the clubhouse didnt pay any attention to televisions airing the Pirates-Cardinals game. Collins said the team had no plans to celebrate regardless of the outcome in St. Louis. We had to take care of our own business and weve done that and we have to keep doing that, Collins said.Gsellman (4-2) scattered seven hits and struck out seven in another strong performance. The rookie right-hander has allowed only three earned runs in his last four starts.I think Ive done a good job blocking it out, Gsellman said of pitching in a playoff race. Thierry Henry thinks Zinedine Zidane enhanced his managerial credentials by the way he set Real Madrid up in their 2-1 victory over Barcelona on Saturday evening. Having lost to their arch rivals 4-0 at the Bernabeu earlier in the season, Real looked to be heading for another defeat after Gerard Pique scored early in the second half. Zidane cautious over title One game at a time, says Real Madrid coach But Real responded positively, equalising with a bicycle kick from Karim Benzema and then grabbing a late winner through Cristiano Ronaldo after Sergio Ramos was sent off. I like the way Zidane set up the team, said former Barcelona forward Henry on Sky Sports. They were not scared, they put pressure on when they needed to and kept their composure at 1-0 down. They were trying to play from the back under pressure and they looked like a team with the right balance. Zidane understood he had to take care of the midfield, especially against Barcelona. People wanted to know if tactically he could do something against Barcelona and he did. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a late winner for Real Madrid at the Nou Camp The defeat ends Barcelonas 39-game unbeaten run and sees their lead at the top of La Liga cut to six points. However, with seven games of the season remaining, Henry does not believe second-placed Atletico Madrid or rivals Real, who are seven points behind, can chase down Barca. Karim Benzema brought the scoreline to 1-1 with this bicycle kick You never know, but I dont think Barcelona will let the league go away, he said. The key game is against Atletico [in the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday], you never know what can happen and that could have an effect on the league, but I think they will be OK. Bale: Were still in it Madrid still in title race, says Bale Former Barcelona and Real Madrid midfielder Michael Laudrup also does not think Luis Enriques side will let their lead slip, but is looking forward to seeing how they react to the defeat, which is their first since October. Knowing Barcelona and the Catalans there will be a little doubt, he said. Just one loss can create doubts, we will see in the coming week. I still think the league is done, but I want to see the impact in the coming games.Real deserved the win. In the second half they were the better team, even going down 1-0, then down to 10 men. Galatasaray said in a statement on its website Monday that Mancini signed a three-year contract and will be paid 3.5 million euros for the upcoming season, with his salary upped to 4. Im a three-category maven: music, film and sports. Ive long been fascinated by hot streaks in all three areas.Paul McCartney often speaks of 1966-67 (Revolver/Sgt. Pepper/Magical Mystery Tour) as being his hot period. Id add 1973, the year of Band on the Run and Live and Let Die. Nearly all of the 25 songs he primarily wrote and recorded across those three years comprised about a third of his set at Oldchella last month. I paid a ton of money to see him play. The human mind curates a well-lit, shatterproof-glass display case for our personal hot streaks. As we age, and our personal mean increasingly solidifies, it becomes easier to identify the eras when we really had things going. As an early-pubescent power forward, I had a four-game hot streak in seventh grade in which I averaged 12 points per game -- double my PPG average for that era. (I was more of a Laimbeer-esque instigator). This streak was largely based on my ability to hit a shot from one spot on the court at the end of a certain designed play. For four games, I hit that shot nearly every time. Then I regressed to the mean. Two years later, I was out of basketball and in Pirates of Penzance. What does all this have to do with you?Plenty.Because its my job to help you frame fantasy production in relative terms.Over the first month of the season, we tend to overreact to strong starts. This overreaction becomes pronounced when it comes to point production and field goal percentage performance. One stat I like to use when taking someones shot-making temperature is effective field goal percentage (eFG%). Effective field percentage accounts for the extra point generated by a successively converted 3-pointer.Its calculated like this: (2pt FGM + 1.5 x 3PT FGM / FGA)The average NBA eFG is right about 50 percent (Monta Ellis). Elite eFG% starts around 55 percent (Rodney Hood). Top-shelf eFG% starts around 60 percent (Clint Capela).Im wizened. I have traded for Raef LaFrentz at 3 a.m. And I am here to tell you which hot-shooting starts indicate a season-long trend ... and which are bound for regression.(For perspective purposes, Im supplying career eFG%, last seasons eFG% and current eFG%.)Kevin Durant, SF/PF, Golden State WarriorsCareer eFG%: .519 2015-16 eFG%: .569 Current eFG%: .618Its not an obscure topic, but I am obsessed with how Durant has adapted to the Warriors offense. So far, Durant has provided a rough approximation of his Oklahoma City fantasy production (17.75 player rater points in 2015-16, 16.97 player rater points in 2016-17). All despite averaging his lowest usage rate (26.9) since 2009.Durants doing it all via efficiency. And its not all coming from where youd expect. One would assume Durant is simply lighting it up from downtown via the extra space provided by Steph Curry and company. But Durants current .404 3-point percentage is basically on par with his 3-point percentage since 2011.Plus his volume of 3-point attempts is markedly down (only 4.7 attempts versus 6.7 in 2015-16), which would normally lead to a drop in eFG%. Yet Durant is currently posting a career-high-busting .618 eFG% because of a boost in 2-point production.Durant is hitting a career-high 62 percent of his 2-pointers (previous high: 57 percent). Seventy-four percent of his shots this season are 2-pointers. And the extra boost in attempts isnt coming from mid-range, where youd expect streakiness.Durant is getting more dunks and layups. The kind of shots one tends not to miss.To date, a career-high 30 percent of Durants attempts are coming inside of three feet. Fourteen percent of all of Durants shot attempts are dunks. Durant is hitting 83 percent of his shots in the 0-3 foot range.Maybe defenses learn to adjust to Durants cuts. But I wouldnt bet on it. It looks like the Warriors spacing has resulted in a permanent shift in Durants shot selection.Durants eFG%: HOLDDamian Lillard, PG, Portland Trail BlazersCareer eFG%: .504 2015-16 eFG%: .497 Current eFG%: .538Lillard is scoring at Iversonian levels (29.8 points per game). Heres the question with Lillard: Are we seeing a peak-year (age 26) rise in 3-point efficiency, reminiscent of Steph Curry? No. Were not.Like with Durant, Lillard is performing slightly below career-high levels in 3-point production. Hes shooting 37 percent from downtown this season. In 2015-16, Lillard shot 37 percent from downtown. His volume of 3-point attempts (7.1) is down about 1 per game.Lillards eFG% boost is coming from inside the arc. He is hitting a career-high 52 percent of his 2-pointers.Lillard has increased his attempts from 0-3 feet, just like Durant. However, only four percent of Lillards attempts are dunks. Resullt: Lillards percentage in this range is lower (.dddddddddddd645).Overall, Lillard has been more efficient from the floor because hes getting to the hoop with greater frequency. But the dramatic boost in Lillards scoring (from 25.3 points to 29.7) is mostly coming from the other area that increases when players go to the hoop: free throw production.Lillard has posted better than a 50 percent increase in free throw attempts (6.2 FTA to 9.6 FTA) over his 2015-16 average. And you probably know Lillard (like Curry) owns one of the best free throw percentages in the NBA (currently .913, career .873).As long as Lillard can survive the increase in driving, theres no reason to believe hell suffer a dramatic dropoff. As a matter of fact, his still-mediocre 3-point percentage suggests theres additional ceiling for the taking.Lillards eFG%: HOLDDeMar DeRozan, SG, Toronto RaptorsCareer eFG%: .458 2015-16 eFG%: .463 Current eFG%: .520Hes scoring 32.5 points per game! Over the past 10 games, DeRozan has been floating in rare Jordan-esque air.DeRozan has never been a good 3-point shooter, though. Outside of last season, Id volunteer that DeRozan -- by wing standards -- is a terrible 3-point shooter. His career percentage? .283. This season? .263. Hes contributing only 0.5 3-pointers a night. So, where are those extra 9-10 points per night coming from?Unlike Durant and Lillard, its not from up close. Ninety-two percent of DeRozans attempts are 2-pointers. Only 14 percent of those are coming from 0-3 feet. Only 22 percent are from 3-10 feet.Instead, DeRozan has dramatically upped his mid-range-to-deep 2-point shot attempts. Hes launching these shots -- eFG% killers -- at 1970s levels. Thirty-one percent?of DeRozans shots are coming from 16-21 feet. At present, hes hitting 51 percent of them!DeRozans career mark from 16-20 feet? Thirty-eight percent. He cant keep this up. Hes on the definition of a hot streak.DeRozans eFG%: SELLGiannis Antetokounmpo, PG/SG/SF/PF, Milwaukee BucksCareer eFG%: .503 2015-16 eFG%: .520 Current eFG%: .535Im listing Antetokounmpo because hes an example of a player who has all kinds of room to grow in eFG%.Fifty-one percent of Antetokounmpos field goal attempts are from 0-3 feet. Hes making 75 percent of those. Only 15 percent of his attempts come from behind the 3-point line (for good reason, as hes hitting only 19 percent of them). As Antetokounmpo continues to put it all together, and his range expands, his efficiency will increase. It will be interesting to watch how his efficiency and volume shifts over the next couple of seasons.Even within this season, Antetokounmpo should improve. He should up his 3-point percentage somewhere in the area of his career mark (27 percent).Antetokounmpos eFG%: BUYGeorge Hill, PG, Utah JazzCareer eFG%: .519 2015-16 eFG%: .528 Current eFG%: .622Hills explosion is tougher to peg. A regression is expected. But Hills situation is muddled by the fact that hes on a new team thats lacking a go-to veteran scorer. And he has shown flashes of this type of efficiency in the past (21.5 PER in 2014-15).One other big factor in field goal performance? Contract year.Hill is a free agent next summer. He has landed in a perfect spot to pad his numbers. If he stays healthy, Hill is in line for a career year. But age 30 would be a little late to suddenly morph into Steph Curry. Ill wager Hills season will be a little closer to Darren Collison than Steve Nash. And unfortunately, Hill isnt the kind of household name that tends to sell high in a trade. If you google Padukone, the search engine throws up over 1.6 million hits. Of these, a little over a million are for movie star Deepika Padukone, compared to less than half that for Prakash Padukone, her father, who transformed the profile of badminton in the country when he became the first Indian to win the All England title, the sports most prestigious tournament and one comparable to Wimbledon in its aura, in 1980.Padukones win came more than 100 years after badminton was introduced to, and then became the rage in, British India. On August 22, 1873, the Manchester Guardian carried a curious bit of news in an item on the British Empires Kashgar Mission. It said that the game of badminton had taken Indian society by storm. Proof of this was readily available in the pages of the Times of India of 1874. The newspapers correspondent from Mahabaleshwar reported that the hill town had gone badminton mad. The woods are deserted, and old and young spend their mornings and evenings in dark spots, playing this evidently fascinating game. The correspondent, however, disapproved of the obsession with badminton, saying that a good healthful gallop, or a walk was far more beneficial to the young, especially girls. The correspondents views evidently did not have too many takers, since badmintons popularity, especially in western India, grew by leaps and bounds. From the 1930s, an all India championship and a Western India championship were held regularly. Given the history of the games growth, some of the best Indian players were from the west and the north, with Prakash Nath, who got to the All England final in 1947, and Nandu Natekar being some of the finest of their time.Padukones home state of Mysore, as Karnataka was known till 1973, figured nowhere on the badminton map, however. His father, an employee with the state-run Indian Telephone Industries Ltd, was instrumental in his taking up badminton. But like most Indian sportspersons of the time, Padukone achieved what he did with little help from the state. He honed his skills in a wedding hall in the Canara Union, a religious and social centre for the Chitrapur Saraswats, the caste group to which he belonged, and at the Malleshwaram Associations court in Bangalore. According to his biographer, Dev Sukumar, the peculiar dimensions of the Canara Union hall, whose roof was 20 feet high, with girders at 17 feet, influenced Padukones playing style. From early on, Padukone showed prodigious talent on the court and as a 16-year-old he won both the senior and junior badminton nationals in 1971, a feat that has not been matched since. He had all the qualities that a newspaper correspondent in 1874 believed a good badminton player should have: the cool head, the bright eye, the firm wrist, the healthy physique.Yet no one expected him to scale the heights that he did in a sport dominated by the Indonesians, Malays, Danes, and subsequently the Chinese. When he won the All England, it was the first time, billiards excepted, that an Indian had won an individual sports premier global tournament. The Times of India reported of the reception he got when he returned to Bangalore: A huge crowd of relatives, friends and fans cheered him as he entered the airport terminal... Soon after the red carpet welcome, the sports hero... was taken in an open jeep... Prakash was garlanded profusely all along the 14km drive. It was typical of Padukones solidly middle-class background that one of the first things he did on reaching Bangalore, according to the newspaper, was to touch the feet of his 84-year-old grandfather. What had also gone unnoticed was that even while the All England tournament was on, Padukones family announced his wedding with Ujjala Karkal in the newspapers engagements column. In winning the All England, Padukone defeated two of the all-time greats of modern badminton - Morten Frost of Denmark, a four-time winner, in the semi-final, and the Indonesian legend Liem Swie King, a three-time winner, in the final. What marked Padukones style of play was his emphasis on touch and guile. Much like the dribbling skills of hockey legend Dhyan Chand or the elegance of Ranjitsinhji, it was the wristy play that beguiled opponents. In 1980, besides the All England, Padukone won the other two most important tournaments at the time, the Swedish and Danish Opens. Newspapers labelled his feat as a badminton Grand Slam. He followed it up by winning the World Cup in 1981.After losing to Padukone in the final of the 1980 Danish Open, Frost called his opponent the master of feigned shots. When I arrived on the scene, I was at first awed by the lightning-quick speed and power of the Chinese and Indonesians... Prakash was one of the few who had managed to provide some resistance to their domination with his wristy, deceptive and counterattacking style. After that, despite the occasional good performances until he called it a day in 1988, Padukone never scaled the heights of 1980. But his All England title had a lasting impact.Sukumar correctly, albeit with a touch of hyperbole, points out: The All England win did more than just enhance the countrys prestige. Within the country it created a revolution. It pitchforked badminton into national consciousness, making it on par with cricket and hockey. It created a reference point for Indian sporting history; henceforth, all sporting accomplishments would be measured against this. When Padukone gave up a secure job in the state-run Union Bank and turned professional about a year after the All England win, it served as proof to future players that if they were good enough they could survive without the states benevolence. The revolution wrought by Padukone inspired many of Indias future badminton stars. This was particularly true of Pullela Gopichand, the only other winner of the All England title from India. Prakash sir was somewhere there on the horizon for me, Gopichand recalled of his early years. I realised that that All England is the worlds most prized and premier badminton championship. The way people talked about it, I could sense it was something big.It was not just inspiration that Padukone provided to the next generation. He helped shape the future through the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy, which began operations in 1994 at the Canara Union, the very same courts where he first learnt his game. Gopichand joined the academy in 1996 and spent a few years there and said that Prakash took pains to play with and train him individually. Not surprisingly, when Gopichand won the All England, Prakash was glued to the television, watching his one-time protégé emulate him. That link between former stars and the present generation that Padukone set a precedent for has continued with Gopichand and Saina Nehwal. Nehwal, who became the first Indian woman to achieve the world No. 1 ranking in badminton and win a bronze medal in the Olympics, trained under Gopichand at his academy in Hyderabad.Besides Nehwal there are several other Indian badminton stars, such as PV Sindhu, Parupalli Kashyap and Gurusai Dutt, who regularly win international tournaments. Their excellence in a game that has been around in India for nearly 150 years, and has always been very popular with the middle classes, can be credited to one man and his path-breaking win at the 1980 All England.Ronojoy Sen is the author of Nation at Play: A History of Sport in India J. Ben Simmons has a broken bone in his right foot, and its unknown how long the No. 1 overall pick will be sidelined for the Philadelphia 76ers.Simmons was injured Friday during the final training camp scrimmage at Stockton University in New Jersey. The Sixers said Simmons rolled an ankle, and X-rays and an MRI revealed a fractured fifth metatarsal. In almost all cases, the fracture of the foots fifth metatarsal is known as a Jones fracture, according to ESPN medical analyst Dr. Mark Adickes. Athletes with this injury typically undergo surgery. The estimated time frame for a full recovery from this surgery is around eight weeks, according to Adickes.Simmons, a forward from Australia, played one season at LSU. He missed time early during his stay with the Tigers while waiting for an ankle injury to heal, and he left an NBA Summer League contest in July after suffering cramps in both legs.Simmons injury is the latest blow to a franchise that has been beset in recent years by injuries. Joel Embiid, the No. 3 overall pick in 2014, has yet to play because of surgeries on his right foot. Nerlens Noel missed his rookie year in 2013-14 with a torn ACL. Jahlil Okafor had his rookie season in 2015-16 cut short with season-ending surgery on his right knee. He sat out practices this week because he still experienced soreness in the knee.It has become a bit of a theme in Philly the past few seasons, ending with last seasons 10-72 mark that earned the 76ers the No. 1 pick.Embiid took to his Twitter account Friday night to reference the teams mantra under former Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie, who abruptly stepped down from his post in April.Simmons became an instant fan favorite before he ever played a game, and expectations were high that he was the cornerstone player who eventually could help turn the Sixers into playoff contenders. It means a lot, just to see people wearing my jersey around Philly -- its kind of weird, he said this week. Im just looking forward to hopefully giving back to Philly.Hell have to wait.Simmons was scheduled to start for the Sixers iin their preseason opener Tuesday against Boston.dddddddddddd.Simmons, a 6-foot-10, 250-pound forward, was Philadelphias first No. 1 overall pick since it drafted Allen Iverson in 1996. Iverson led the Sixers to their last NBA Finals appearance in 2001.Coach Brett Brown planned to use Simmons all over the court, even at point guard. Simmons impressed his teammates with just one week of NBA training camp.I never played with somebody [like him], forward Dario Saric said at training camp. Everybody puts pressure on him, but I think hell handle this.Simmons averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game at LSU, the only SEC player ever to finish in the top five in all three categories. But the Tigers were only 19-14, failing to make the NCAA tournament.Simmons, who grew up in Australia before moving to Florida for three years of high school at Montverde Academy, signed a $20 million sneaker deal with Nike before the draft. He never demonstrated he could make jump shots consistently, rarely shooting from outside and going only 1-of-3 from 3-point range all season. He also exhibited an inclination to pass rather than create his own shot in the late stages of close games.Simmons also had academic issues that made him ineligible for the Wooden Award, which is presented to the nations top college player. On Monday, Simmons spoke with reporters at 76ers media day about his new strength regimen that saw him gain around 33 pounds since leaving LSU.Im a lot stronger [now], said Simmons, who was listed at 240 pounds while at LSU but said Monday that he weighed 217 before the June 23 draft. Im at the point where I want to cut down a little bit and play at a nice weight. Physically just being out there, guys are a lot stronger than in college, but Im also a lot stronger than I was in college, so its just about taking hits and bumps or whatever it is and finishing at the rim.The Associated Press contributed to this report. We asked our panel to give their predictions. Check out how our Sky Sports pundits think the World Tour Finals will go when it gets underway this weekend and cast your vote at the end. Can Andy Murray finish of the season in style or will Novak Djokovic reign supreme? There are six other top class players involved, including two former Grand Slam winners and two former major finalists. The competition is red-hot this year so we have asked our panel to give their fight predictions. Watch NOW TV Watch Sky Sports for just £6.99. No contract. The blockbuster week of action will take place at Londons O2 Arena, live on Sky Sports.Former greats of the game have all had their say on the big week ahead... McEnroe Group Andy Murray Stan Wawrinka Kei Nishikori Marin Cilic Most exciting match-up? Barry - Murray v WawrinkaTwo players that have shown this year that they can win Slams, but Stan is the wildcard. No one really knows how hes going to play. He could come out and play unbelievable tennis but it was my fear this match could happen.Petch - Murray v NishikoriI think Nishikori, certainly at the US Open this year, had a couple of twists, serving and volleying a bit. Hes definitely trying to protect his serve a bit better this year against obviously great returners. Hes a great returner himself which is why I kind of like the match-up. Theres going to be a lot of opportunities for both players to break serve and its just a question of who can play the big points well. Live Tennis: ATP World Tour Finals November 13, 2016, 12:00pm Live on Get Sky Sports Get a Sky Sports pass Annabel - Murray v WawrinkaStan is always unpredictable, always dangerous and obviously shocked everyone like he always does to win the US Open. Every Slam that hes won, he crept through the draw and then suddenly he wins it. Hes probably going to be quite fresh and hungry. I think he hasnt played his best tennis leading into it necessarily, but I just think for me that match stands out.Who is the dark horse? Barry - Im not sure there is oneI think every possible scenario could happen in that group because youve got Cilic, in great form, youve got Nishikori as Petch said, in great form. Youve got Stan, who beat Murray a couple of years ago, and youve got Andy in the form of his life. All those four guys are going to have to play an 8 out of 10 or a 9 out of 10. If they dont, theyre behind.Petch - Marin CilicHes a guy with his serve that can take the racket out of the hand. The other ones you feel have got some play on the ball, whereas Marin - if he serves well, as we saw at the US Open in 2014 - actually is unplayable. Hes the guy people feel is possibly not going to get through that group, but is equally as dangerous as everyone else. And hes confident. Live Tennis: ATP World Tour Finals November 13, 2016, 6:00pm Live on Get Sky Sports Get a Sky Sports pass Annabel - Marin CilicThe last few matches Ive seen him play, his level has been extremely high apart from the last match in Paris when he suddenly ran out of steam against John Isner. But the improvements have been huge. He just moves better, hes more consistent from the back, hes extremely aggressive. He just seems more self-confident as well.Who wins the Group? Barry - Andy MurrayI think he will win it with two wins.Petch - Andy MurrayI think he will win the group, yep.Annabel - Andy MurrayIts impossible not to say Andy. With the form that hes in, you feel hes a level above everyone else at the moment.Who will go through as runner-up? Barry - Kei NishikoriTheres no method in that pick. Its just a gut feeling. I think hes a little bit more reliable than the other two, although if Wawrinka plays his best tennis, then he comes through that group, but thats a big if.Petch - Stan WawrinkaTheres no science, theres no stat, theres no form guide that can lead you to knowing what is going to happen between those three guys. I feel that Stan is due a big week again and I think he will want to finish this year strongly. Roger Federer is not about due to injury so Swiss eyes are all on him solely and I think he will be motivated to put in a great week.Annabel - Stan WawrinkaIts impossible to say. You dont know what mood Stan is going to be in. But Im going for him because hes so unpredictable. Lendl Group Novak Djokovic Milos Raonic Gael Monfils Dominic Thiem Most exciting match-up? Barry - Djokovic v MonfilsI saw Djokovic and Thiem play in Miami and although that was straight sets, it was one of the best couple of sets I saw all year actually where Thiem showed how dangerous he can be. But he has really struggled recently so I would say Djokovic and Monfils. I think the Frenchman will be a great addition this year. He has the personality to be able to perform and has the game to be able to perform.Petch - Djokovic v MonfilsGoing on head to heads, the most interesting match-up will be one which Novak is not involved in. Given his dominant head-to-head record against everyone else in the group, he should feel very good about things and that should give him a lift the draw coming in here. Im definitely looking forward to Novak against Gael, if Gael is fit and healthy. I think he certainly has become more consistent, so I think it will be the match the everyone will remember.Annabel - Djokovic v MonfilsI think this match because of what happened at the US Open. It was such an extraordinary match in terms of the goings on - it was just bizarre. He was trying to physiologically get into his head and he did. A lot of what he did, did have an impact.Who is the dark horse? Barry - Gael MonfilsMonfils for me, definitely. I just think with what happened with Milos pulling out in the semis at the Paris Masters, and although he played well last week, I think he was won five and lost five out of his previous 10 matches, so Im going to Gael.Petch - Dominic ThiemI do feel as though he has the fire power and foot speed to hurt players. He needs to serve big, rather than kick it in. He needs to use that first serve that he has. But if he can do all the things that hes shown, he can do this year, effectively, then I like his chances.Annabel - Gael MonfilsMonfils is a scary athlete. Out of all of the players he is the quickest and I think theyre all intimidated by his athletic ability and that serve. Everything seems to be coming together under coach Mikael Tillstrom. Hes the first coach thats been able to harness the talent and rawness, but still allow a bit of that flair to flourish, but also making him more consistent as well.Who wins the Group? Barry - Novak DjokovicI think he will win all three matches. I saw enough from him last week and I dont think his best tennis is too far around the corner.Petch - Novak DjokovicAnnabel - Novak DjokovicHe has a great record against all of them.Who will go through as runner-up? Barry - Gael MonfilsPetch - Gael MonfilsAnnabel - Milos RaonicI would say Raonic if he is completely fit. Other than that, I do think Monfils has a chance. Hell be a real crowd pleaser and serious entertainer.Who will win the ATP World Tour Finals? Barry - Novak DjokovicWhat swung it for me was actually the order of play and the fact that Djokovic is going to play on the first day means that he will get an extra days rest. I think hes got the easier group, while the Murray group will be punishing, and I think Novak will have an extra day off before the semis.Petch - Andy MurrayHard to argue against that logic and I do think that the odds have stacked up against Andy in terms of the obvious reasons and also in his group everyone can beat everyone so its coming down to sets and games. It has made it much trickier for him to come through. However, I really sense he would dearly, dearly love to win this tournament and I think hell be thinking Im better than everyone else in the top eight. That desire he has will see him find a way, but it wont be easy.Annabel - Andy MurrayI think hes come into this in the best form that weve ever seen him play. Hes contented and all the stars are aligned and I just think hes playing at a level above everyone else at the moment. England have tried everything within their means to get their most successful Test bowler ever fit in time for a major part of the series in India, but former India captain Sourav Ganguly wouldnt pick James Anderson in the playing XI even if he was available for selection.??I wouldnt play him [Anderson] in India to be honest, said Ganguly, who will be part of ESPNcricinfo Match Day, the analysis show that will be aired both on ESPNcricinfo and on the SONYESPN channel on every day of the five-Test series.?Its not the same Anderson as 2012, Ganguly said. I saw him in the Test series in England recently. He has lost a bit of pace. And I think Stuart Broad and Steven Finn and Ben Stokes [will be more effective] because you will need a bit of pace in these conditions to get that ball to reverse. So I dont know whether he will make the side when he comes back. Not in Vizag [Visakhapatnam] where the ball will turn square.??In a recent ODI in Visakhapatnam, legspinner Amit Mishra took five wickets to bowl New Zealand out for 79, which is a sign of the conditions that England can expect in the second Test. If everything goes right with Andersons rehab - he has not bowled since August because of a shoulder injury - he could be fit in time for that Test. However, Ganguly feels Anderson shouldnt play the rest of the series either.??I dont see him playing in the second Test, Ganguly said. And if I were the England captain, I would go in with two fast bowlers: [Stuart] Broad and Ben Stokes [along with Chris Woakes]. A bit of zip, a bit of pace, reverse. And play three spinners. Moeen Ali, Gareth Batty and another spinner. The advantage is, Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes can get runs with the bat. It makes the batting a lot longer, and you still have three spinners for these conditions. Thats the way I will go, and I dont think Jimmy Anderson bowling at 80 miles an hour will find a place in my side.??Doubts about Andersons fitness, in light of his integral role in the 2012 series, is part of a larger reason why Ganguly doesnt expect England to win a Test in the five-match series. He knows England have a good record against India, and that they won the last series in India, but the teams have changed a lot since then, he said.??They have a great record in India to be honest, Ganguly said. In 2006 when they came it was 1-1, when they won in Mumbai. In 2012 they won the series 2-1. India going to England and losing 4-0 and then 3-1. So England have got a great record against India but whether this England team can get past India in a five-Test series, I am not sure. Because when you look at the side that played in 2012, the most important part was those two spinners: Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann. Both high-quality spinners, and both match-winners. And Jimmy Anderson at his best. The Jimmy Anderson of four years ago.??Also the India team wears a completely different look. When they caught India in 2012, it was a side that had lost 4-0 in Australia, Ganguly said. A side whose confidence was pretty down. It was battered overseas for a long period of time. But England are now facing a side that is high on confidence. New captain. Results have come the teams way. Its going to be very, very tough for England. Thats what I believe. But in sport, anything can happen.??For anything to happen, it wont be just any old thing, it will have to be magical if England are to competee.dddddddddddd England will have to play very, very well to get past India in this series, Ganguly said. Not just play very, very well, do something absolutely magical. Like Alastair Cook did last time in 2012. Three back-to-back Test hundreds. Kevin Pietersen played that unbelievable knock in Mumbai. Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott getting hundreds. Somebody or the other stood up for them. Whether they have that same quality in batting, I am not too sure.??As with the last series, Cook will have to set the tone. He has had success in India so he will be confident when he comes to that series, Ganguly said. I thought he played well in Bangladesh on those tough pitches but he has got to fire. He has got to stand up for his team. Lead from the front. And people need to support him. The likes of Joe Root, who I think is an outstanding player. Ben Stokes, who I think will have a huge role in this series. These three have to fire for England consistently if they have to have some chance in the series.??The three superstars wont be enough. Moeen Ali, who did well against India in England in 2014, will have to be at his best too. He is definitely a threat for India, Ganguly said. The wickets will spin. His confidence against India will be high as a bowler. He has definitely become a better batsman than since that trip of 2014 when he was peppered with short deliveries from Ishant Sharma and the Indian bowlers. He has definitely become a better cricketer than then. He will be tested. He needs to get runs and get wickets as well, but do they have a Graeme Swann or Monty Panesar? I dont think so.??The one advantage England have is they are not turning up blind. They played Test cricket in some testing conditions in Bangladesh just before this trip. It was so testing they didnt even feel the need for a warm-up game in India. Ganguly doesnt expect the conditions in India to be as extreme as Bangladesh, but sees it as good preparation for England.??Those wickets to be honest were absolute minefields, Ganguly said. Although the series was drawn 1-1, it cant get worse than that for them in terms of the surface. And I saw the pitch in the last Test. It spun from everywhere. You just had to put the ball in the right place, and it did everything. In India they are going to encounter better pitches. That sort of pitch will be on day five of the Test. But when I saw the ball land on the first day of the Test in Bangladesh, it was actually like a day-five pitch.??They [England] havent played well in Bangladesh, but it will get them used to the conditions. I firmly believe when teams from the subcontinent go away or when it is the other way around, it is about getting used to the conditions as quickly as possible. I think it is going to help them in that aspect, but I still maintain [doubts] that whether they have that spark in this side to beat India in this series.Ganguly will be joined on ESPNcricinfo Match Day by Nick Compton and Jonathan Trott, who were both part of the series-winning England team to India in 2012-13 in which Anderson played an important role.?ESPNcricinfo Match Day will air in India at 10pm on SONY ESPN and SONY ESPN HD during the Tests. ESPN has a long-term collaboration with Sony Pictures Networks in India and the subcontinent. CHICAGO -- Wrigley Field was dark and empty when a loud cheer reverberated throughout the neighborhood surrounding the iconic ballpark. While the Chicago Cubs decided to delay their party, their long-downtrodden fans were ready to celebrate.Chicago wasted its first chance to clinch the NL Central title when pinch-hitter Scooter Gennett delivered a tiebreaking, two-run double in the seventh inning Thursday night, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-4 victory. But St. Louis 6-2 loss at San Francisco completed the Cubs season-long dominance of the division. It appeared manager Joe Maddon and his players were long gone when the West Coast game wrapped up. But the final out in San Francisco touched off a celebration in Chicago that included honking horns and chanting in the streets. This is just the first step, Maddon said before the Cardinals lost. I mean, we have much larger baseball fish to fry in our skillet. The Cubs (93-53) were hoping to begin a 10-game homestand with a boozy celebration of their first division title since 2008. But Keon Broxton homered and Orlando Arcia drove in two runs for Milwaukee, making Chicago wait a little while longer. Now the party shifts to Friday, right after the Cubs afternoon start against the Brewers. It might be a bit anticlimactic for Maddon and Co., but they took all the drama out of the division race long ago.Led by a stellar pitching staff and MVP contenders Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo, Chicago got off to a sizzling 25-6 start. After stumbling into the All-Star break, the Cubs pulled away with a 22-6 August that turned the NL Central race into a mere formality. But the division title is not how this group of Cubs will be judged, not this year. After running roughshod over the rest of the majors for most of the season, they are trying to end the franchises famous championship drought that goes all the way back to when the Cubs beat the Tigers in the 1908 World Series.Weve got a lot ahead of us. We really do, president of baseball operations Theo Epstein said before the loss to Milwaukee. It kind of all boils down to how you perform in October. Its only the fourth time the Cubs have reached the postseason in consecutive seasons. They got in as a wild card last year and made it to the NL Championship Series before they were swept by the New York Mets. The offseason additions of Ben Zobrist and Jason Heyward only added to the anticipation for the Cubs loyal fan base, and they have delivered up until this point.dddddddddddd But many of those same fans also were around for the last division title, when the 2008 Cubs won 97 games and then were swept by the Dodgers in the division series.Theres no team Id rather be going into October with, Epstein said. But there are never favorites in October the same way there are in the regular season.Jorge Soler hit a two-run homer for the Cubs, who had won three of four. Mike Montgomery pitched six solid innings and helped himself with a tying single in the fourth for his first career hit.Justin Grimm (1-1) replaced Montgomery in the seventh, and the Brewers put runners on first and third with one out. Gennett, batting for Jimmy Nelson (8-14), blooped an 0-2 curveball into the corner in left for a 5-3 Milwaukee lead.I was just trying to put the ball in play, Gennett said. Hes a guy who throws a lot of curveballs so its important not to get too big or try to do too much. Its really just, get a good pitch to hit and put it in play. The Cubs got one back on Heywards RBI double in the eighth, but Tyler Thornburg threw a called third strike past pinch-hitter Willson Contreras with runners at the corners to end the inning.Thornburg also worked the ninth for his 10th save in 15 chances. It was just a flat-out good ballgame, Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said. Obviously, with where theyre at, there was great energy in the park tonight.TRAINERS ROOMBrewers: RHP Michael Blazek (right forearm strain) threw a simulated game. Counsell would like to get Blazek into some games before the end of the season, but said theres no rush. The goal with Mike is just to go into the offseason healthy, Counsell said.Cubs: RHP Pedro Strop, who tweaked his right groin while working his way back from arthroscopic left knee surgery, threw a bullpen and said it went well. Hes getting close, Maddon said. Its not far off.UP NEXTMaddon likely will rest several regulars when the series resumes Friday afternoon. RHP John Lackey (9-8, 3.35 ERA) is scheduled to face Brewers RHP Chase Anderson (8-11, 4.53).---Follow Jay Cohen at http://www.twitter.com/jcohenap Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys Jerseys From China Wholesale Jerseys Free Shipping Wholesale Nike NFL Jerseys China Jerseys Wholesale Cheap Jerseys Stitched Jerseys ' ' '

CHICAGO -- From their torrid start to their dreadful slump and sudden resurgence, it sure has been a wild season for the Chicago White Sox.They are looking better as the All-Star break approaches.Miguel Gonzalez pitched five-hit ball over seven innings and the White Sox beat the New York Yankees 5-0 on Wednesday night. The White Sox have won six of eight and 11 of 16. They took two of three from the Yankees and won their fifth straight series.Thats more like it for a team that led the AL Central at 23-10 before going into a huge tailspin.Everybody seems to be contributing in one way or another and its nice, manager Robin Ventura said. Were playing better baseball, its that simple. Were playing all-around better baseball. The White Sox bounced back after getting blanked for the fifth time and handed the Yankees their fifth shutout.Tim Anderson capped a four-run second with a two-run double off Michael Pineda (3-8). Gonzalez (2-4) took it from there. He matched his longest outing of the season and shut down New York after it pounded out a season-high 20 hits in Tuesdays 9-0 romp.Gonzalez, who went seven innings in a loss at Houston last week, struck out three and walked one. The right-hander was 0-3 with a 7.25 ERA in his previous four starts.Zach Duke worked 1 1/3 innings, and David Robertson got the final two outs, striking out Chase Headley with runners on second and third to end the game.I think that we learned from our success early on, we learned from our failures last month, Adam Eaton said.Jacoby Ellsbury and Didi Gregorious each had three hits for New York. But the Yankees (41-43) missed a chance to reach the .500 mark and dropped to 2-4 on a 10-game trip that takes them to the All-Star break. We cant get over the hump, manager Joe Girardi said. We cant play consistent enough to get over the hump and get to five games over, get to 10 games over and its a number of different things. Its pitching at times. Its swinging the bats at times. You look at the two games here and we didnt hit with runners on and that was the difference.Pineda, who had a 2.75 ERA in six June starts, gave up five runs and five hits in six innings. The White Sox did most of their scoring in the second, pounding out four runs after Pineda retired the first two batters.ddddddddddddBrett Lawrie singled to ignite the rally and scored from second on a base hit by Avisail Garcia, who came in on a 6-for-46 slump. J.B. Shuck added an RBI ground-rule double to left, putting runners on second and third, and Anderson followed with a double to left that made it 4-0.NO BATTING PRACTICEBoth teams were forced to cancel batting practice after a pipe on the third-base side cracked. Workers dug a trench on the foul side of the base, though it was filled in by the time the game started. If we lose a player in a sink hole ..., Girardi said. Maybe one of their players should walk over it first.SALES PITCHWhite Sox ace Chris Sale was very appreciative after joining Billy Pierce as the only White Sox pitchers to make five straight AL All-Star teams. He also said it would be such a thrill to start, a possibility considering he leads the majors with 14 wins.Ive always been there and seen the start of the game and just everything that goes into it, he said. I would be thrilled to do that.TRAINERS ROOMYankees: Carlos Beltran was back at designated hitter after playing the outfield Tuesday for the first time in a week. He has been bothered by a tight right hamstring. The issue is not gone, so hes probably going to DH more than the outfield for a little bit, Girardi said. Girardi also said he thinks Beltran will be able to play in the All-Star Game after being selected for the ninth time.White Sox: The White Sox hope to get C Alex Avila (strained right hamstring) back during their series against Detroit at home July 21-24 after placing him on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday.UP NEXTYankees: New York opens a four-game series at AL Central leader Cleveland, with RHP Ivan Nova (5-5, 5.06 ERA) starting for the Yankees and RHP Trevor Bauer (7-2, 3.02) pitching for the Indians.White Sox: Sale (14-2, 2.93) goes for his 15th win as the White Sox open a three-game series against Atlanta on Friday. LIVERPOOL, England -- Ashley Williams scored an 86th-minute winner as Everton came from behind to beat title-chasing Arsenal 2-1 at Goodison Park on Tuesday.Arsenals title credentials took a hit with sloppy defending at the end of both halves, with right back Seamus Coleman heading home unmarked for the equalizer in the 44th minute and center back Williams rising highest at a corner to glance in the winner.Alexis Sanchez scored from a deflected free kick to put Arsenal ahead in the 20th minute and move level with Chelsea striker Diego Costa as the top scorer in the league this season with 12 goals.Arsenal would have climbed above Chelsea into first place with a win but lacked dynamism in the final third and missed the presence of injured center back Shkodran Mustafi. They slipped to a first league loss since the opening weekend of the season.Everton ended the match with 10 men when Phil Jagielka was sent off in the third minute of injury time after picking up a second yellow card and in a frantic finish, Arsenal had two goal-bound shots cleared from near the line.Arsenal has won more matches against Everton than any other opponent in Premier League history, and a 30th victory since the leagues inception in 1992 looked on when a litany of errors contributed to Sanchezs opener.Everton conceded a free kick on the edge of the area after Enner Valencia and then Williams failed to clear the ball, with Williams taking out teammate Idrissa Gueye as part of the defensive shambles.Things didnt get any better for Williams, who ended up deflecting Sanchezs low free kick to wrong-foot Maarten Stekelenburg and the all looped over the line off the legs of the goalkeeper. With striker Romelu Lukaku isolated, Ross Barkleys passing awry and the defense jittery, Everton seemed there for the taking but Arsenal conceded a soft goal just before halftime.Baines was given lots of time and space to size up a cross from the left wing, and his right-foot delivery found Coleman unmarked near the penalty spot to glance a header into the far corner.Arsenal had more of the ball in the second half but the visitors build-up play was slow and they lacked a cutting edge, leading manager Arsene Wenger to bring on attackers Alex Iwobi and Olivier Giroud for the final 20 minutes and therefore moving Sanchez out wide.In the end, it was a defender who decided the game as Williams made amends for his earlier mistake with the powerful header. AMES, Iowa -- Some 63 hours after Matt Campbell earned his first Big 12 victory at Iowa State, his Ford Explorer roars into the dark parking lot of the Bergstrom Football Complex.Campbell hardly slows off the gas, driving a straight line to the parking spot closest to the staff entrance of this four-year-old building detached from the northwest corner of Jack Trice Stadium. It is 5:15 a.m.He bounds from the silver metallic SUV into the 32-degree, mid-November air, paying no attention to the brilliant full moon above. Ten minutes later, Campbell sits in his second-floor office, peering at film of the Texas Tech defense. The 36-year-old father of four, who coached for four-plus seasons at Toledo before the Cyclones tabbed him a year ago, is eager to shed the label of youngest coach in the Power 5.I get it, Campbell says, looking up from his desk and the practice schedule under construction on paper, but age is irrelevant. When I was at Toledo, for a while I was the youngest coach in all college football. You just hoped that somebody recognized you for the work we were doing, what you were building, what kind of coach and program you were.Iowa State recognized more than a youthful exuberance in Campbell, tasking him with one of the most daunting jobs in the sport. The Cyclones have enjoyed one winning season in the past decade; the last time they won more than seven games was in 2000.Campbells Iowa State tenure began with a loss to FCS program Northern Iowa and started 0-6 in Big 12 play, despite leading Texas, Baylor and Oklahoma State in the second half. Iowa State came from behind in the fourth quarter to win 31-24 last week at Kansas -- a milestone, for sure, despite an opponent that has lost 19 straight league games. It was great to see our resolve, Campbell says. I definitely think it did something positive in our program. And now, can you do it again? The Cyclones celebrated the win with a Sunday meal of steak and shrimp, cake and ice cream. After defeats this year, they ate hamburgers and hot dogs.On Tuesday, Campbell granted access to ESPN.com for a look at the inner workings of a program in transition. Clearly, a conference win only strengthened the Cyclones resolve to continue to improve -- and to do it as quickly as possible. This morning represents a late start for Campbell. Three days a week, he shows up at 4:30 to run and lift a few weights.I think it keeps you sane, he says. Its a 12-minute drive for Campbell from the home he and his wife, Erica, built last spring and summer north of the Iowa State campus. They moved from temporary housing in July, five months after the birth of their second son, Rocco. The Campbell girls are 8 and 6; the boys are 3 and 9 months.Usually, they all attend practice on Wednesday.Matt nearly missed the latest birth, flying into Toledo, still exhausted from a harried recruiting season, less than an hour before Erica gave birth. She is an audiologist but stays home, for now, while Matt works crazy hours.Campbell left the office after 10 on Monday night, feeling a bit sick. And the coachs stomach has not fully recovered on this morning. He drinks no coffee. For energy, Campbell mixes water with Spark, a powdered multivitamin additive advertised to enhance mental focus.Campbell is the first of the coaches to arrive. As he gets settled in the office, itll be seven hours until Campbell eats a meal. Hes a creature of habit, sending director of football operations Greg Brabenec -- Skip as hes known in the office -- almost daily to the nearby West Street Deli for a serving of chicken salad. The first week I got here, somebody told us about it, Campbell says, and thats been our go-to spot ever since. After workouts, Campbell cleans up in the locker room. His office is equipped with a shower, which he says he has never used, inside a spacious restroom that holds his carry-on suitcase and an ISU golf bag, still covered in plastic wrap.At 6:30 a.m., he ducks into an in-progress meeting. Offensive coordinator Tom Manning, a holdover from Toledo like most of the ISU staff, sits at the head of the table. He controls the tape -- dissecting the Texas Tech defense -- and the mood in the room, which is decidedly low-key.The lights are dim as Mannings mellow and acoustic mix of songs plays over a wall-mounted speaker. Hes more eclectic than Campbell, whose playlist gets plenty of time, too, especially at night; it spans Kenny Rogers, John Prine, Justin Bieber, the Zac Brown Band and Justin Timberlake. We go all over the spectrum, Campbell says. The offensive meeting includes graduate assistant Taylor Mouser and quality control associate Joe Houston. Passing game coordinator Jim Hofher enters before 7 a.m..The coaches trade banter as they watch tape.I got home yesterday and the Christmas tree was up, Manning says, and its got lights built in.Manning sounds genuinely surprised by this before turning his eyes back to the Red Raiders, who visit Ames on Saturday with just one win -- an overtime victory at TCU in Week 9 -- in their past six games.Soon, the Iowa State coaches watch tape of Ohio State. With deep Ohio roots, the ISU staff regularly studies the Buckeyes, who run a system on offense similar to what Campbell installed in Ames. The Cyclones target Ohio heavily in recruiting. Campbell grew up in Massillon, south of Cleveland. In particular, Campbell says, hes enthralled by the heritage of Ohio natives Urban Meyer and Bob Stoops, and Nick Saban, whose career began in the state.Theyre huge role models, Campbell says, guys who have such laser vision and focus to sustain success, to recruit consistently and then to develop their guys and demand that they play at a high level.Curtis Samuel flashes on the screen. No one on the Iowa State roster resembles the Ohio State back.Is he an Ohio guy? asks a coach in the room.No. Another coach suggests that Samuel, a four-star signee in 2014, came from Florida. Actually, hes from Brooklyn, New York.Campbell moves into a special-teams meeting at 7 a.m. He sits at the head of the table, with associate head coach and running game coordinator Louis Ayeni to his right. Bryan Gasser, who coaches receivers and special teams, runs the meeting. Linebackers coach Tyson Veidt is also here. The head coach stays mostly quiet, speaking up when the subject turns to weather. The forecast is more typical November for Saturday in Ames -- cold and windy. The more wind, the better for Iowa State, the coaches suggest.Just before 8 a.m., the entire staff convenes in the same room for their daily rundown. The meeting starts with a medical report. They discuss Tuesday practice before the conversation turns to recruiting. This weekend is huge, says Campbell, with several official visits planned. One of the scheduled visitors, announces a coach, attended Iowas upset win Saturday night over Michigan. No one responds to this.By Campbells left sits Veidt, who is handing scraps of paper to a recruiting assistant as the coaches watch film of prospects under consideration for scholarship offers. Iowa State has accepted approximately 20 commitments for its 2017 class, so space is limited. They view film of a tenacious offensive lineman. Conversation ensues about his reputed height -- and the height of a basketball hoop on which Campbell saw the prospect dunk on video. It might have been 8 feet, suggests one coach. The point there, Campbell says after the staff meeting, is for everybody in that room to know exactly what were looking for. Before 9 a.m., Campbell exits his third meeting of the day. He stops quickly in his office before the next session to talk more offensive strategy. His stomach is feeling better. Chicken salad awaits in three hours.Another long day beckons. MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester City failed to win for a fifth successive game in all competitions on Sunday, only avoiding a loss to Southampton when Kelechi Iheanacho produced a second-half equalizer for a 1-1 draw.Although Pep Guardiola is enduring a five-game winless run for the first time since his debut campaign in charge of Barcelona in 2008-09, City is top of the Premier League on goal difference.A mistake by City defender John Stones presented Nathan Redmond with the opener in the 27th minute at home. Substitute Iheanacho equalized 10 minutes into the second half with Citys first shot on target but the hosts could not find the winner.City could feel hard done by after dominating possession, particularly in the second half, and having a Stones goal ruled out for offside. Yet after opening the season with 10 successive wins, the intensity does seem to have dropped temporarily. After Wednesdays loss at Barcelona in the Champions League, Citys players needed to make a statement in response but they could not rouse themselves enough after a subdued first-half performance.Sergio Aguero was restored to the front line after his surprise omission at Barcelona, while fit-again captain Vincent Kompany made his first league start since April.City struggled to get going, with promising runs from Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane all coming to nothing. Citys lack of cutting edge suited Southampton, who struggled to gain any meaningful possession. When Southampton took the lead it came after a glaring error by Stones, who did not look up as he passed the ball back into the area in the 27th minute.dddddddddddd. Kompany was not in tune with his fellow defender and Redmond pounced, taking the ball wide of goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and scoring. The look on Stones face made clear the horror of his error, which will bring into further focus Guardiolas determination to play out from the back at seemingly all costs.Stones picked himself up and thought he had made quick amends as he raced in at the far post to tuck home a De Bruyne free-kick. He celebrated what he assumed was the equaliser with gusto but a flag had been raised for what appeared to be offside against Aguero. The frustration continued for City as Ilkay Gundogan drove wide but the introduction of Iheanacho at halftime brought a change in shape, intensity and atmosphere.Sterling was enlivened and curled a dangerous ball through the box before City claimed their equalizer. Fernandinho picked out Sane with an accurate crossfield ball and his low cross was neatly tucked in by Iheanacho. From then on it mainly became a case of Southampton digging in and looking to protect what they had, although Bravo was called upon to make one save from a Charlie Austin drive. Goalkeeper Fraser Forster kept Southampton level by palming away Gundogans effort before saving David Silvas long-range strike to secure the point for the south-coast side, which is eighth in the standings. When satellite camps were banned in April, it seemed we would all be deprived of all of this. Then, three weeks later, the ban was lifted and the Michigan coach was off and running. Before the ban, Harbaugh announced a summer satellite camp tour with 39 camps in 22 states plus visits to American Samoa and Australia. And while Harbaugh didnt attend every camp, each time he attend a camp, the buzz, excitement and the spotlight of the college football was there. And for every stop, every jersey, every lunatic antic and philosophical interview, Harbaugh delivered.Heres the best from the Summer of Jim:Meet Harbaugh, the shade-thrower.Its bad for college football, Alabama coach Nick Saban said about satellite camps. This is the wild, wild West at its best. There have been no specific guidelines relative to how were managing control of this stuff.Think Harbaugh was going to stand by for this? Not a chance.June 2: SEC country, Hammerin Hank and the first jerseyIn Atlanta, Harbaugh hosted his first camp in SEC country. He co-hosted the camp with Georgias Kirby Smart, but both coaches paled when Hank Aaron arrived. The Braves Hall of Famer spoke at the camp, and Harbaugh donned an Aaron No. 44 jersey.Jim looks great in jerseys tucked into his khakis, right? Good. Therell be more.In Baltimore, wearing a Ray Lewis jersey, Harbaugh declared theres a prejudice against football. The second-year Wolverines coach was hurt by what he called daily rules changes from the NCAA about granting interviews and signing autographs at satellite camps. Like any master politician, Harbaugh quickly pivoted his message to his fight for football.Thats why Im pointing this out because some of these other sports arent getting it.Football gets the majority of the scrutiny and the rules that are intended to hurt the student-athlete, and it makes no sense, he told ESPNs Heather Dinich. Thats why Im pointing this out because some of these other sports arent getting it.No, were passionate about the game of football and teaching it and bringing it to the doorstep of anybody thats interested in being involved in athletics and being involved in football, he said. Were not going to just agree. And Big Ten football. And Ohio State was hosting a camp with Rutgers some 30 miles from Michigans camp at Paramus Catholic. So things got a bit crazy. Before Harbaugh even arrived, members of a Rutgers secret society that calls itself the Order of the Bulls Blood vandalized the Paramus Catholic field with, among other things, a stuffed bear and a letter telling Harbaugh to go home.Aside from the beefing, both camps hosted more than 1,400 players and Harbaugh pulled off pinstripes. At a football camp (of course!) Harbaugh announces that his wife is pregnant.Harbaugh said he will be attacking this pregnancy with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. This will be Harbaughs seventh child.June 24: Honoring a greatWhile in Southern California, Harbaugh and Co. held a camp at Oceanside High School. That high school is the alma mater of late NFL great Junior Seau, who was Harbaughs teammate with the San Diego Chargers. Of course, Harbaugh paid tribute to him.The next day we got Jim Mamba.June 26: AlohaIn Honolulu for a camp, Harbaugh hit the island life. The camp was held at Saint Louis School, the high school of Heisman winner Marcus Mariota. While in Hawaii, Harbaugh offered a scholarship to a Class of 2020 quarterback. That makes the player just a high school freshman. In a technicality, Harbaugh is missing from this video.?But, is his influence ever far away from college footballs viral spotlight? Keep in mind, Harbaugh quoted Rafiki from The Lion King in October.?Michigans satellite camp tour ended June 29 when Harbaugh canceled a camp in American Samoa for fears of the Zika virus. So what does a man who has traveled the country coaching football do for a vacation? He goes to Disneyland, of course. And while there, he just happened to run into talk show legend Jerry Springer. He also took this great photo with Chewbacca.Harbaugh is back to his day job of coaching the Wolverines. Its only August, but weve already seen J.J. Watt, Steph Curry and Archie Manning were there. Lou Brock Jersey .Y. -- Marcell Dareus and the Buffalo Bills defence made life miserable for Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco. HOUSTON -- Outside of one rally, the Houston Astros never had an answer for Chris Archer. The right-hander struck out 10 in seven innings, Corey Dickerson hit a three-run homer and the Tampa Bay Rays beat Houston 10-4 on Sunday. We didnt put a lot of pressure on him early, Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. He made his pitches. I thought we responded very well in the fourth with the three runs after getting down 4-0. 4-0 with Archer on the mound is a pretty tall task. We get back into it 4-3 with a lot of good at-bats in that inning and then he responded with high-end velocity. ... When hes locked in, hes an elite pitcher. He sort of came in and out of that elite style today and held us at bay.Houston, in the hunt for an AL wild card, had won three straight.Matt Duffy and Nick Franklin also went deep for the last-place Rays, who have homered in 21 of their last 24 games.Franklin got three hits in his first start since returning from a concussion. Evan Longoria also had three hits for the Rays, who jumped out early against Doug Fister (12-9).The right-hander allowed four runs, two earned, and seven hits in 4 1/3 innings, the fourth time in his past seven starts he has permitted four or more runs.I didnt have my best stuff today but made some pitches, Fister said. They hit some balls hard, they hit some balls soft and did what they needed to do. Something that you dont want to happen, but youre trying to keep the damage minimal.Steven Souza Jr. had an RBI groundout in the second. Doubles by Dickerson and Longoria made it 2-0 in the third.Luke Maile hit an RBI double in a two-run fourth. The rally was aided by a pair of errors on one play by Houston rookie third baseman Alex Bregman with two outs. With the Astros trailing 4-0 in the bottom half, Jose Altuve hammered the first pitch he saw from Archer for his 21st home run, a two-run shot. Houston has 18 homers in the last 10 games.Jason Castro cut it to 44-3 with an RBI single.dddddddddddd.Archer (8-17) gave up three runs on four hits and two walks.I just felt really good overall today, he said. Last time I threw, obviously I felt pretty good. Theyre a good, young team, so its really fun to go out there and duke it out with them. Today we ended up on the right side of it.With his strikeout of A.J. Reed in the sixth, Archer joined David Price and James Shields as the only Tampa Bay pitchers with multiple 200-strikeout seasons.Elite stuff, Rays manager Kevin Cash said of Archer. You put yourself into a category not a lot of pitchers get into. Coming in we knew Archers stuff was right there at the tops in baseball and that shows how elite it can be. If he continues to stay in the zone, hes going to be in those categories quite a bit.Tampa Bay broke it open in the eighth, when Duffy and Dickerson combined to drive in five runs on a pair of homers. It did feel good, Dickerson said. To be able to see the ball well, consistently put on good swings instead of every now and then. Its good to get some in a row and I think that helped me a lot.Franklin joined the party in the ninth with a solo shot to right. He has four home runs in his last 28 at-bats.Houstons bullpen gave up six runs and seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.TRAINERS ROOMAstros RHP Luke Gregerson (left ankle) remained unavailable, but Hinch said the team will try to get the reliever into a game against Oakland this week. ... OF Colby Rasmus (cyst in right ear) is scheduled to work out Monday and then it will be determined whether he will be activated or needs a rehab assignment.UP NEXTAstros RHP Joe Musgrove (1-2, 5.20 ERA) starts against Oakland on Monday. Musgrove has given up 13 runs in his past two starts after allowing just three in his first two major league starts. MADRID, Spain -- The slippery blue clay may be gone, but the Madrid Open continues to produce surprises. Second-ranked Roger Federer was ousted by Kei Nishikori of Japan 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 in Thursdays third round, leaving Rafael Nadal as the either the clear front-runner for the title or the next big name who should be wary of an upset. Nadal didnt let his sore knee get in the way of downing Mikhail Youzhny 6-2, 6-3 to reach a quarterfinal with David Ferrer, while third-seeded Andy Murray had to come from behind to edge past Giles Simon 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6). "Clearly the favourite for this tournament is Nadal," Federer said. Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova -- the top two seeded women-- also reached the quarters in straight sets. Last year, Federer didnt let the slick "Smurf-colored" clay stop him from winning his third title in Madrid. But now with the old-fashioned red clay back at the Caja Magica, Federer only managed to look like the star he is for a spell. Yet Federer wasnt the first highly-ranked player to fall. World No. 1 Novak Djokovic was ousted on Tuesday, a day before Victoria Azarenka followed in a temper tantrum. After recovering from Nishikoris strong start, Federer looked like hed found his stride as he roared back in the second set. But Nishikori reasserted his ground game in the decider, after breaking Federer for a 3-1 advantage, and held on for the surprising victory. Nishikori said beating Federer after losing their only previous meeting was one of the high points of his still burgeoning career. "He was my idol and to beat him was one of the goals for my tennis career," the 16th-ranked Nishikori said. "Beating Roger is, yeah ... I need a couple of days to celebrate." Federer came to Madrid after a seven-week layoff. He said the gusting winds hurt his game, but he gave all credit to Nishikori. "He was the better player today for sure," Federer said. "I was lacking control from the baseline and that carried through from start to finish. Overall Im disappointed with my play." Federer said he will not change his plans and will now train for Rome and then the French Open. This was Nishikoris fourth win over a top-five opponent. Nishikori will next play Pablo Andujar, who advanced when fellow Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver retired. Nadals commanding win over Youzhny featured an array of winning shots. Having already established control by stealing Youzhnys second service game, Nadal kept a point alive with a deft no-look backhand flick before nailing a winner down the line to hold his serve and delight his fans. The fifth-ranked Spaniard then broke Youzhny again by dinking the ball over the net while on the run, giving it so much backspin it twisted away from the Russian. Nadal, who is searching for his seventh straight final since returning from injury, improved to 28 wins and two losses on the year. Nadal said he was still bothered by his left knee, which has sidelined him this year with a nagging case of tendinitis. "Sometimes I have pain," Nadal said. "I try to avoid talking about it as much as possible. With respect to my rivals its not the moment to analyze how I am." Nadals next opponent, Ferrer, outlasted Tommy Haas 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Murray looked stiff as he conceded the first set to Simon but the Scot improved, and after winning a long game to break back early in the second set, slowly imposed his will. Even so, he squandered five match points before Simon netted his final approach shot in the tiebreaker to end the match in just under three hours. Murray will play Tomas Berdych, who defeated Kevin Anderson of South Africa 7-6 (5), 7-5, to make the final eight. Also, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beat Fernando Verdasco of Spain 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to set up a match with Stanislas Wawrinka, who came back to see off Grigor Dimitrov 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. On the womens side, the top-ranked Williams dispatched Maria Kirilenko 6-3, 6-1, after Sharapova put away Germanys Sabine Lisicki 6-2, 7-5. Williams dominant performance made Kirilenko wither after she dropped the first set with one of several unforced errors. "I just felt really relaxed, like I was taking my time," said Williams, adding that she strived for precision over speed on serve. Williams will take on local favourite Anabel Medina Garrigues, who advanced after Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan withdrew with a right arm injury. Sharapova will face Kaia Kanepi of Estonia next after she defeated Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 6-3, 6-4. Ekaterina Makarova of Russia beat Marion Bartoli 6-3, 6-2 and will play Sara Errani following her 7-5, 6-3 win over Varvara Lepchenko. Angelique Kerber of Germany meets former No. 1 Ana Ivanovic. MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday accused an Alabama attorney of bilking millions of dollars from professional athletes and others who invested in his companies, saying he instead used the money on personal expenses. The civil complaint filed in federal court in Atlanta says Donald V. Watkins and his companies falsely told investors that their funds would be used to support waste-to-energy ventures and that a prominent national company, Waste Management, was seriously interested in acquiring the businesses. A total of $6 million was raised from investors, many who were current and former pro football and basketball players. We allege that Watkins duped investors into believing that there was a lucrative transaction on the horizon, when in fact there was none, Walter Jospin, Regional Director of the SECs Atlanta Regional Office, said in a statement. The complaint alleges that Watkins instead spent the money on his girlfriend and on personal expenses like alimony, past due taxes and credit card billsAn attorney for Watkins called the complaint baseless and said it was retaliation for a lawsuit Watkins filed against the SEC last year. The SECs Complaint has zero bases in facts and is nothing more than a baseless slander campaign against Mr.dddddddddddd Watkins; we look forward to our day in court to exonerate Mr. Watkins from these false accusations, attorney Mario Williams said in a statement.Williams said federal prosecutors with U.S Department of Justice, Office of Economic Crimes Unit in New Jersey closed a six-month investigation, finding that there existed absolutely zero basis to charge Mr. Watkins with any criminal conduct.Williams said Watkins has a pristine track record of holding himself to the highest standards of ethical and legal conduct. The complaint says Watkins and his companies with violating antifraud provisions of the federal securities laws and a related antifraud rule. The money was invested between 2009 and 2014.Watkins is a businessman, banker and attorney, who has tried to purchase a professional sports franchise. Federal regulators said Watkins touted his 2009 effort to try to buy an NFL franchise in his talks with investors in his two companies. NEW YORK -- Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was out of the starting lineup for the third straight game because of a sore left foot.Teixeira fouled a ball off his foot in the fourth inning of Saturdays loss to Boston, and X-rays and a CT scan were negative.Im not sure about tomorrow, Yankees manager Joe Girardi said before Tuesday nights game against Baltimore. The 36-year-old Teixeira is batting .186 with seven home runs and 20 RBI in 63 games during the final season of a $180 million, eight-year contract. If youre still not sure about that final spot before Sundays games kick off, send us a question on Twitter using the hashtag #startsitESPN, and you just might get yours answered below. Each week, ESPN Fantasy analysts KC Joyner and Jim McCormick will provide advice for players just like you stuck with tough choices to make. Lets get started on answering your fantasy football questions for Week 6.@ESPNFantasy #StartSitESPN Which QB to start? I have Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson.- Gary Mark Jr. (@gmarkjr) October 16, 2016Matt Ryan racked up only 14 points last week due in part to having a tough road matchup. A game at Seattle is just as unfavorable, so Ryan likely will have a similar point total this week. Wilson has a much more favorable matchup and thus has better overall, upside and downside scores and is the choice here. -- KC#StartSitESPN J. Stewart or Arian Foster for FLEX in a PPR league?- Fantasy League (@kickingkeatings) October 16, 2016Jonathan Stewart has a 94 rating in my matchup points category that measures schedule favorability on a 0-100 scale, with 100 being the most favorable. Arian Foster has 17 points on that scale, as Pittsburghs rushing defense has been very good for most of this season. Add that Foster is more of an injury question mark than Stewart, and Stewart is the selection.#StartSitESPN Should I start Brandin Cooks at Carolina. Or start Odell Beckham Jr. at New York this week?- BrandonVorhis75 (@brandonvorhis) October 16, 2016Brandin Cooks is facing a Carolina secondary that wont have any of its top three cornerbacks from the start of the season in todays lineup. That gives him a 90 rating in my matchup points category, or near the top of that metrics 100-point scale. Beckham has 55 matchup points, which is an above-average mark but one nowhere near as strong as Cooks total. That disparity makes Cooks the selection. -- KC#FFNow #StartSitESPN Which WR Sammie Coates or Michael Crabtree?- Deelishizkat (@DeelishizKat) October 16, 2016Coates has a highly favorable matchup against Miami, but he also has a hand laceration that required stiches and a broken finger. Crabtree has racked up nine or more points in every game and has four touchdowns over the past two weeks, so hes nearly matchup-proof. Hes also not battling any reported injuries, so consider Crabtree the selection here. -- KC#StartSitESPN Isiah Crowell or Tevin Coleman?- raju mudhar (@rajumudhar) October 16, 2016An ESPN Insider article I wrote earlier this week detailed how Coleman has gained only 5.3 yards per carry on rushing plays where he is given good blocking (a metric known as GBYPA). That is less than half of the 11.4 GBYPA Devonta Freeman has posted this year. That disparity is why Freeman is going to get a lot more carries than Coleman. Since Isaiah Crowell leads the league in GBYPA (12.3), he has a lot more upside than Coleman even before factoring in Colemans tough matchup at Seattle, so start Crowell. -- KCMarcus Mariota against CLE or Andrew Luck against HOU? #StartSitESPN- Hustle Marsalice (@Flex_Ryan) October 16, 2016Given the highly favorable matchup against the Browns, it is possible Marcus Mariota throws a lot of passes and repeats last weeks point total. The problem in relying on that is the Titans like to lean on the power rushing game and they will be able to do that against Cleveland. Andrew Luck is a pass-first quarterback facing a Texans defense missing one of its starting safeties. Those factors make Luck the selection. -- KC#StartSitESPN Cam Newton or Russell Wilson. Seattle weather a factor?- Dan Ball (@ball_dan) October 16, 2016Given how incredibly favorable the matchup against New Orleans is (83 on my 0-100 matchup points scale), Cam Newton might even be the start even if there were 50 mph winds inside of the Superdome. Add in possible bad weather in Seattle, and Newton is the pick. -- KC#StartSitESPN Should I start K. Benjamin (knee) flex? I have Ware, Bernard on my bench.- GiantsJetsFangirl (@GiantJetFangirl) October 16, 2016Kelvin Benjamin is the type of player who can score 20 or more points against weak matchups (e.g. 22 points against San Francisco in Week 2) and New Orleans definitely falls into that category. Since Benjamin was able to practice on a limited basis on Friday, it likely indicates the questionable status is not as daunting as it looks. The advice is to play for upside and put Benjamin in the lineup. -- KCShould I start the Tenn Defense or Pittsburgh? #StartSitESPN- Bilal Kosovac (@bilal_kosovac) October 16, 2016Pittsburgh has a very favorable matchup against Miami (70 matchup points on my 0-100 matchup rating scale) but the Titans have an even more favorable matchup against Cleveland (a perfect 100 matchup points score). Add that to the Titans coming off of a game where they racked up two interceptions and six sacks on their way to a season-high 13 fantasy points and it makes Tennessee the pick here. -- KC@ESPNFantasy #StartSitESPN Brady or Rodgers today?- Dominick DeBari (@DRoc3) October 16, 2016Talk about an embarrassment of riches! Both are top five fantasy quarterbacks this week due to their passing prowess, but Aaron Rodgers brings rushing prowess to the game as well (82 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns so far this year). Thats the kind of impact factor that gives Rodgers the start edge in this one. -- KC#StartSitESPN ertz or j thomas- Ari Berke (@ajberkee) October 16, 2016Julius Thomas is back to fully practicing with the Jaguars. Chicago is coming off of a game where they allowed the Colts tight ends to post eight receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown. Jacksonville will definitely target Thomas a lot due to this matchup and that upside makes him the pick in this one. -- KC#StartSitESPN ppr Landry or Hilton as flex?- David Finkenberg (@FinkenbergDavid) October 16, 2016T.Y. Hilton practiced fully on Friday, so his questionable designation doesnt look to be a concern. He has a higher upside grade than Jarvis Landry as well, due in part to Houston missing one of its starting cornerbacks. Combine those factors and Hilton is the pick. -- KC#StartSitESPN Standard Flex Desean Jackson, Cameron Meredith, Zach Miller or James White- Tessarose (@mztubbyrose) October 16, 2016With the Eagles outside corners proving a bit suspect, DeSean Jackson is a reasonable upside option in standard formats in this narrative-driven game against his former club. -- J.M. #StartSitESPN banged up Will Fuller or Cameron Meredith at my WR3?- Torbj?rd (@Chief_Jordan) October 16, 2016Will Fuller has been quite DeSean-like in his variant production pattern, while Cameron Meredith earns a sizable share of the Chicago offense with Eddie Royal ailing. Lets go with Merediths higher floor here. -- J.M. #StartSitESPN Whos the better flex play in non-PPR. Martellus Bennett or Sterling Shepard. Thx- Josh Rock (@Doc_RockMD) October 16, 2016To make it simple, Id rather have shares of Bennetts role in the Patriots elite offense and their propensity to go with two-TE sets than with Sterling Shepard and a struggling New York passing game. -- J.M. #StartSitESPN Tyrod Taylor or Brian Hoyer, non-PPR, with McCoy as my RB1?- Matt Cannici (@hillsideoak) October 16, 2016With the 49ers awful time of possession trends -- a Chip Kelly staple (Eagles fan here!) -- Taylor and McCoy could both feast on opportunities against an exploitable San Francisco defense. The Jaguars actually have some respectable defensive metrics against QBs in regard to total yardage and YPA, its really just a poor touchdown rate so far. That said, Id rather ride with Taylor and the rushing upside he offers in a nice matchup. -- J.M. @ESPNFantasy Jeremy Hill or Frank Gore? #StartSitESPN- Kevin Kross (@KevinKross22) October 16, 2016Hey Kevin, its tough to go with Jeremy Hill here with his decreased snap and touch rate last week and on a team poised as sizable road underdogs his rushing upside is compromised. That said, Frank Gore remains a high floor asset given his majority share of meaningful touches from the Indy backfield. Houston has softened to the run, as well. -- J.M. in a two game slump W. Fuller likely out A Hurns, R. Matthews, or J. White for my flex? PPR. #StartSitESPN- Nic Brown (@nic4sports) October 16, 2016Going with Ryan Mathews here. The risk in a potential committee is taken into consideration, but the Redskins have been uniquely soft against opposing running games, allowing 5.28 yards per carry -- most in the league. -- J.M. @ESPNFantasy w. fuller or b. Cooks #StartSitESPN- smitti (@MrGrownManSwag) October 16, 2016Cooks has the larger sample of success and a better setup here at home, where Drew Brees has averaged a ridiculous 25.6 fantasy points per game since the start of last season. -- J.M. @ESPNFantasy #StartSitESPN Bills Defence or Eagles Defense- Jeremy Fitzpatrick (@JeremyFitzpat12) October 16, 2016Both are nice options, but the Bills are in a better spot at home and facing this high-snap 49ers offense, which offers increased big-play potential for Buffalos surging pass rush. -- J.M. #StartSitESPN DeAndre Washington or Bilal Powell?- Lisa Brillhart (@BrillhartLisa) October 16, 2016Rather assume the upside DeAndre Washington offers in a share with Jalen Richard than Powells change-of-pace role as the receiving back for the Jets. -- J.M. Starting Gurley & Howard. Who for Flex: Landry, Blount, Crowell? #startsitESPN- bay_csw (@baycsw) October 16, 2016Landry is the safest option here, as his target share is incomparable. Blount is in a fine spot on a home favorite, thus some nice rushing upside is present, but we know his floor is fairly low when he doesnt score. -- J.M. @ESPNFantasy Brady or Roethlisberger? #StartSitESPN- Kim Tabor (@kimtabor) October 16, 2016A very good problem to have! Lets go with Brady here, as hes at home and well positioned to thrive against a somewhat reeling Cincinnati defense that Dallas just pushed around. -- J.M. #StartSitESPN Golden Tate, Cameron Meredith, Quincy Enunwa. Can only start 1 in ppr. @Stephania_ESPN @ESPNFantasy @MatthewBerryTMR @espn- Stuart Cohen (@stuartrcohen) October 16, 2016With the Cardinals solid secondary in place, Im fading Enunwa a bit as hes struggled recently with increased coverage attention. Cam Meredith gets the nod here, as his role should be sizable after establishing a strong rapport with Hoyer last week. -- J.M. T.Y. Hilton or Christine Michael at Flex? Thanks guys! #StartSitESPN- HSG_Messi (@HSG_Messi) October 16, 2016Some might scoff at the riches here, but lets remember Christine Michael was a late-round pick in most drafts. That said, Hilton is a true WR1 in my view given his 27 percent share of his passing offense and rich vertical targets. I like both options, but side with Hiltons more proven pattern and intriguing big-play upside. -- J.M. @ESPNFantasy #StartSiitESPN whos the flex to play: Charles Clay, Vernon Davis, or Jalen Richard?- Robert Evans (@RobertE7077) October 16, 2016Richard produced a respectable total yardage outing last week and has a nearly equal claim to touches with DeAndre Washington, so he gets the call over these tight ends.dddddddddddd -- J.M. Julio Jones vs. Seahawks or John Brown @ESPNFantasy #StartSitESPN- Rico (spooky) (@ActuallyAmRico) October 16, 2016I appreciate the hesitation with Julio Jones given his hit-or-miss pattern of late and the Seattle secondary up today, but what about those hits? Meaning, Jones can still deliver big numbers even in the face of a poor matchup and we really shouldnt try to perfectly predict or curate when hell go off. I dont want to miss out on a big game from Julio, and while more unlikely given the circumstances, its still in the outcome spectrum. John Brown is a fine option to consider as an upside flex or even WR2, but not above Jones. -- J.M. Crabtree, JMatt or Meredith? 10 team std league. #StartSitESPN- Clyde Gaines (@ceg2nd) October 16, 2016We can get Michael Crabtree in the lineup, as the Chiefs secondary has ceded the fifth-most fantasy points to receivers and his sizable share of the Raiders productive passing game is inviting. -- J.M. @ESPNFantasy Ware or Edelman flex PPR #StartSitESPN- paul miller (@paulsmiller) October 16, 2016With 10 targets last week and a positive correction likely coming in the catch rate department, lets get Edelman in the lineup in a PPR format. -- J.M. #StartSitESPN Cobb, Stewart, Cooks... 1 WR 1 Flex spot?- Chris (@RUMRNNER10) October 16, 2016Id sit Cobb of this trio. I know hes due some nice rushing work and I value his upside in that sense, but Stewart should see double-digit touches against a soft Saints defense and merits increased interest. -- J.M. Flex - Woods or Lockett #StartSitESPN- Nick Lyons (@pwdrkg) October 16, 2016This is somewhat of a floor vs. ceiling debate, as Woods has a 25-plus percent share of the Bills targets since Sammy Watkins went down, while Lockett has immense big-play upside but a small share of the Seattle offense. I have Woods higher in this one, but understand chasing the upside if thats your angle. Its not always so binary, but if you want a steadier/safer role, its Woods. -- J.M. Mariota or Newton #StartSitESPN- Shannon Roberts (@TNGirl8539) October 16, 2016Marcus Mariota had a great Week 5 and is about to start an awesome home stretch of matchups, but lets ride with Cam Newton, as he tallied five touchdowns last time in the Superdome. -- J.M. #StartSitESPN Eli Rogers or sterling Shepard?- Mike Hamann (@RavenCoho) October 16, 2016I really like Rogers potential as a PPR flex, but prefer Shepards more proven share of his offense and the potential to net matchups against the lower portions of the Ravens secondary depth chart. -- J.M. @ESPNFantasy Fozzy Whittaker or Chris Ivory? Yes, sadly that js a serious question. #StartSitESPN- Sammy Kruegar (@sammykruegar) October 16, 2016Going with Ivory for any hope he can secure goal-line work for the Jags in Chicago. -- J.M. PPR Lacy or Crowell? Worried about Lacy volume and late start time. #StartSitESPN- Kyle Jordan (@KyleJordan75) October 16, 2016I wouldnt worry about Lacys volume, unless you mean too many touches! But really, with Starks sidelined, he has a really nice setup today. -- J.M. Should I go with Jamaal Charles or John Brown at FLEX this week? #StartSitESPN- Zach Zuber (@zzuber34) October 16, 2016I have Brown a bit ahead of Charles. I know there is often a higher floor and cost certainty with a running back, and this is a tough call given Charles immense upside and efficiency. That said, Brown has 27 targets over his past two games with Carson Palmer and faces one of the best matchups of the slate with the Jets soft secondary coming to town. -- J.M.@ESPNFantasy K. Benjamin or Edelman? PPR #StartSitESPN- Matthew Szabat (@matt_szabat) October 16, 2016Ill be siding with the sweet matchup for Kelvin Benjamin against the Saints. New Orleans allows the most points per drive and the seventh-most fantasy points per game to wideouts. Benjamin is a riskier play, as he does have a wide outcome spectrum, with the Patriots Julian Edelman having the higher floor in PPR, but Ill take the higher ceiling in that potentially back-and-forth game in the Superdome. -- J.M.@ESPNFantasy jamal charles or eddie lacy #StartSitESPN- Ron Griggs Jr (@Rgriggsar) October 16, 2016Lets go with Eddie Lacy, as hes due a massive share of the workload against a Dallas rushing defense that ranks 27th on Pro Football Focus. As Adam Teicher of ESPNs NFL Nation notes, the training wheels might not yet come off for Charles. -- J.M.FLEX: Artis-Payne vs NO or M.Wallace vs NYG#StartSitESPN- [enter slave name] (@lightsoutdso) October 16, 2016With Jonathan Stewart back for the Panthers today, Mike Wallace is the better flex option with Steve Smith sidelined for the Ravens. -- J.M.#StartSitESPN Forte or Cooks in the FLEX?- Colts SB51 Champs (@Stealth_Nation) October 16, 2016Matt Forte is now in a committee of sorts with Bilal Powell, with the loss of receiving work proving hurtful for his yardage/fantasy floor. Brandin Cooks has been quiet since an awesome opener, but he has a nice matchup at home against a young and depleted Carolina secondary. Lets go with Cooks. -- J.M.#StartSitESPN James white or Kenny Brit ppr- Kam (@kamr45) October 16, 2016With Brian Quick out for the Rams I get some sleeper buzz for Kenny Britt, but Id much rather have White in a PPR format. The Patriots receiving back was second among backs in points per route run in PPR formats last season and led the team in snaps and total yards out of the backfield in a game they led throughout in Cleveland in Week 5. -- J.M.Zach Miller or lance kendricks to start today at TE? #StartSitESPN- Kelly (@jkadoption) October 16, 2016Zach Miller leads the Bears in red zone targets, touchdowns and is second in targets and routes since Brian Hoyer took over the starting gig in Week 3. Lets ride with his rapport over any asset on the Rams. -- J.M.#StartSitESPN start jesse james or charles clay .5 ppr- Randell Radford (@rradford44) October 16, 2016Going to ride with The Outlaw Jesse James, as he has a valuable red-zone rapport with Ben Roethlisberger and could see increased targets with Markus Wheaton and Sammie Coates ailing. -- J.M.#StartSitESPN Jarvis Landry or Jordan Matthews?- Tom Collier (@abqcolliers) October 16, 2016Jarvis Landry leads the NFL in target share of his respective offense with 32 percent of the teams passing attempts directed his way so far. Landrys floor is higher than Matthews, especially as game script could trend pass-heavy for a Miami team trying to keep pace with the Steelers. -- J.M.#StartSitESPN Wilson or Stafford?- Matthew Edmiston (@ed_mis_ton) October 16, 2016As inviting as this home setup might appear for Matthew Stafford and the Lions, especially with L.A.s top cover corner sidelined, I prefer Russell Wilsons home matchup against a generous Atlanta defense allowing the third-most points per drive in the league. -- J.M.Fleener or Kerley in my final flex slot? #StartSitESPN- Ant. Reynolds. (@_AtownBoyy_) October 16, 2016Jeremy Kerley faces a bit of uncertainty in terms of chemistry -- and thus floor -- with Colin Kaepernick behind center, so Im actually going with the potential ceiling for Coby Fleener. Kerley has a higher floor of late, especially in PPR formats, but Ill take on upside shares of a Saints target at home if possible. -- J.M.DeVante Parker or Cameron Meredith for the flex start? @ESPNFantasy #FFNow #StartSitESPN- Alex Poe (@PoeTheHoe) October 16, 2016With Eddie Royal still ailing, Cameron Meredith is a fine flex option to consider. That said, Id rather play DeVante Parker and his higher ceiling. Going back to the Landry point, we could see an uptick in passing volume for the Fins as home underdogs in a game with a lofty implied point total. Garbage time could be valuable for Miamis passing game. -- J.M.Lacy or yeldon ppr #StartSitESPN- Eric Slafky (@Es8381) October 16, 2016Last time we saw the Jaguars offense, Yeldon dominated touches and snaps, but I dont really trust that backfield breakdown just yet. As for Lacy, hes got sole claim to the workload with James Starks sidelined. -- J.M.@ESPNFantasy Matt Jones or Cole Beasley #StartSitESPN- Ryan Mosby (@Mosby10) October 16, 2016In a pure PPR Beasley has the safer and higher fantasy floor, especially with how the Packers have struggled against opposing receivers given their depleted secondary. -- J.M.#StartSitESPN Start Dak or Luck? Standard league- Steve Waldrop (@waldropsk) October 16, 2016Riding with Andrew Luck here, as the Texans rate 25th in pressuring the pocket over the past two weeks, which could signal some upside for the Colts passing game. Dak Prescott has been stellar so far for Dallas, but the matchup isnt ideal as the Packers pressure the pocket at the highest rate in the NFC and have a historically stout rushing defense so far. -- J.M.#StartSitESPN Stand league Wallace or Coates?- Heartfelt Collages (@HeartfeltLeslie) October 16, 2016Sammie Coates is a game-time decision for the Steelers with a fractured finger. Lets ride with Wallace and his increased target upside for the Ravens. -- J.M.Artis-Payne, Mike Gillislee, or Bobby Rainey?? Standard league. Grim, I know. #StartSitESPN- Seth T (@sht75) October 16, 2016It gets grim at tailback, no doubt. Lets go with Bobby Rainey here, who at least could retain a reasonable yardage role in the receiving phase for the Giants. -- J.M.Doug Baldwin or OBJ #StartSitESPN- Rick (@GetAtRickJames1) October 16, 2016Id love to get both of these guys in the lineup, but Im favoring Odell Beckham given the potential to face Shareece Wright and an exploitable Baltimore secondary. -- J.M.Will Fuller, Jamaal Charles or Cobb at my flex spot? #StartSitESPN- Zach Kramer (@zkramer06) October 16, 2016I have Randall Cobb rated highest of this group -- he could earn increased rushing upside and had a strong target share last week. -- J.M.QB battle:Alex Smith or Carson Palmer? #StartSitESPN- O.J. Mesina (@ojbuckeyes) October 16, 2016Lets go with Carson Palmer, as the Jets have allowed the most yards per attempt and have been uniquely susceptible to vertical passing targets, something the Cardinals are uniquely aggressive with. -- J.M.@ESPNFantasy J Stewart or D Baldwin in flex spot? #StartSitESPN- Wally Samuels (@AppTarHeel) October 16, 2016Going with Doug Baldwin here. Its tough to trust Jonathan Stewart, even in a choice matchup, but mostly its about Baldwin and his 23 percent share of a potentially dangerous Seattle passing game. -- J.M.Woods, James White or Pryor #StartSitESPN- Stephen Mojica (@S_Mojo) October 16, 2016Lets ride with Terrell Pryor and his sizable market share of the Cleveland passing game. As road dogs against a Titans secondary that has proved exploitable, he could build a nice outing. -- J.M.
