Zack Wheeler, who had allowed five runs total this spring heading into today’s game(mlb championship rings), was charged with five earned runs in three innings in his final tune-up before taking the mound next Sunday in the team’s third game of the regular season. Wheeler had a rough first inning and was tagged for four runs on four hits, including home runs to Dwight Smith Jr. and Chris Davis. Smith Jr. added a solo home run in the third inning as well. Wheeler finished with two walks and two strikeouts and finished with a 4.80 ERA in 15 innings.
The Mets fell behind early and kept clawing their way back. They trailed 4-3 after three and 5-4 after five before tying the game in the top of the seventh and eighth innings only to fall behind again in the bottom half of those innings. Finally, Dominic Smith connected on a three-run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth to give the team their first lead. Matt Blackham worked around a walk in the bottom of the ninth to finish the game and earn the save.
Pete Alonso hit his fifth home run of the spring — a solo shot in the eighth to tie the game at six — and ended up finishing in a tie with Michael Conforto and Jeff McNeil for the team lead. He finished the spring with a very impressive .361/.395/.667 slash line in 72 at-bats. While the team has not made any official announcements, he will presumably travel with the club to Washington D.C. and should find himself in the starting lineup on Opening Day. Speaking of impressive, McNeil finished 3-for-3 with two solo home runs and three runs scored. He will finish Grapefruit League play with five home runs and a .364/.397/.691 slash line in 55 at-bats. He will likely open the season as the starting third baseman with Jed Lowrie and Todd Frazier recovering from injuries.
Wilson Ramos was in the lineup one day after exiting the game with an apparent hand injury and was able to catch all nine innings. Ramos finished Grapefruit League action with a .359/.381/.487 slash line in 39 at-bats. Despite allowing the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, Edwin Diaz earned his first victory this spring. He pitched the eighth inning for the Mets and struck out the side while allowing one run on one hit. Robert Gsellman pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the Mets.
The San Antonio Spurs(San Antonio Spurs championship rings) have been playing their best basketball of the season of late, winning 10 of their past 13 games after a sluggish start where they were acclimating to eight new players. But all that success will be on the backburner Thursday, when the Toronto Raptors pay a visit to the Alamo City and the AT&T Center for the only time in the regular season campaign.
That's because former Spurs star forward Kawhi Leonard will be making his first trip back to town after being traded to the Raptors in the offseason. It remains to be seen how the San Antonio fans will treat Leonard, who missed all but nine games of the 2017-18 season with a quad injury and then actively lobbied for a trade away from the team that drafted him. But coach Gregg Popovich wasn't too interested in discussing Leonard on Wednesday.
"You move on in life," Popovich told reporters. "We're not going to redo what's happened in the past in any way, shape or form. It's of no consequence at this point, and it does no good to go backward and talk about this, that or the other." Leonard indicated he was looking forward to the contest when asked by a television reporter after Tuesday's win over the Utah Jazz.
"Yeah, it's going to be fun," Leonard said during the interview. "Everybody is anticipating the game(nba championship rings). Things like that will only get me better for the long run. It's going to be a good game." The Spurs (21-17) will square off with Toronto after coming from behind to beat another of the Eastern Conference's heavyweights -- the Boston Celtics -- 120-111 at home on Monday. San Antonio got 32 points from LaMarcus Aldridge in the victory and a career-high 22 points from Derrick White, but they needed a 46-point third quarter and a stern "cussing out" by Popovich at halftime to leapfrog into the lead after shooting 22 percent in the first period.
"We were playing really tentative, real indecisive, hesitating, wasn't being aggressive," said Spurs guard DeMar DeRozan, who had 13 points and 10 assists in the win. "The whole dynamic of us, our aggression, changed. We just got out (in the second half) and played like we've been playing." The Spurs canned 14 of their 26 3-pointers in the win, with forward Davis Bertans going 5 for 8 from beyond the arc while scoring 17 points.
DeRozan, along with center Jakob Poeltl, were moved to the Spurs from Toronto in the trade that sent Leonard to the Raptors. DeRozan, after some early reservations about the trade, has settled in to become one of San Antonio's key players. "It's emotional, for sure," Aldridge said of Thursday's game and Leonard's return. "I know it is definitely not another game, for sure. Give me some popcorn, I just want to watch it. But I might have to play." Leonard leads the Raptors (28-11) into San Antonio after scoring a career-high 45 points on Tuesday in Toronto's 122-116 home win over Utah. Leonard has now scored 30 or more points in 11 games this season, including three of the last five.
"That's good, we all got to witness that live and in person," Toronto coach Nick Nurse said of Leonard's performance. "He was phenomenal. I've kind of been waiting for one of these nights where he makes them all." Pascal Siakam had a career-best 28 points with 10 rebounds, while Norman Powell scored a season-high 14 points, as the Raptors captured their fourth straight at home. Toronto played without All-Star guard Kyle Lowry (who didn't play for the eighth time in nine games because of a sore back) and center Jonas Valanciunas (dislocated left thumb) but still managed to score a franchise-high 44 points in the third quarter.
"I try to stay in the moment and keep competing every possession and not worry about myself, just try to get a team win," Leonard said afterward his scoring outburst. The Spurs and Raptors split the season series 1-1 in 2017-18. San Antonio owns a 32-12 all-time mark against Toronto(championship rings) including a 18-4 record and nine-straight wins at home.

The Calgary Stampeders won their eighth Grey Cup(Calgary Stampeders championship rings), defeating the Ottawa Redblacks 27-16 on Sunday at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta.
Bo Levi Mitchell threw for 253 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, but the Calgary defense stole the show. The Stampeders held the Redblacks to 387 total yards and forced six turnovers.
Trevor Harris is a two-time Grey Cup champion and a big reason Ottawa was one game away from a second title. He was fourth in the league in passing yards (5,116) and fourth in passing touchdowns (22).
Harris had a 2018 Grey Cup to forget, though. He finished 20-of-38 for 288 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. His last two interceptions came inside the final three minutes of the game to all but lock up the defeat for the Redblacks.Ottawa's defense did well to keep the Calgary offense in check for the most part. Both Mitchell and leading rusher Don Jackson (53 yards) came in below their season averages.
But the turnovers were too much for the Redblacks to overcome.Stampeders running back Terry Williams also stepped up and delivered what proved to be the decisive score of the game. With one second left in the first half, Williams fielded a punt and eluded the first would-be tackler before turning on the jets and running 97 yards for a touchdown to help give Calgary a 21-11 lead.Beyond the game situation, the Calgary Sun & Herald's Danny Austin explained why Williams was an unlikely Grey Cup hero for the Stampeders.
The Stampeders were well-aware how tenuous a halftime advantage can be. They led the Toronto Argonauts by nine points after two quarters in last year's Grey Cup before watching the Argonauts come back to win 27-24.This time around, Calgary's defense held firm in the second half. The Stampeders and Redblacks exchanged field goals in the third quarter before Rene Paredes made it a 13-point game in the fourth quarter with a 29-yard field goal. The Redblacks' best chance to try to overturn the deficit came on their possession immediately after Paredes' field goal.Ottawa drove the ball down to the Calgary 10-yard line with 9:56 left in the game. A second-down completion to Brad Sinopoli on second down set up a 3rd-and-2 for the Redblacks. Harris tried to Sinopoli, but Sinopoli couldn't maintain possession, resulting in a turnover on downs.
The Redblacks (Ottawa Redblacks championship rings) went two-and-out on their next drive, and their next two possessions each ended in a Harris interception, as the Ottawa quarterback grew more desperate late in the game.Calgary finished as the Grey Cup runner-up in 2016 and 2017, losing to Ottawa two seasons ago. That heartbreak will make Sunday's victory taste even sweeter.
With eight Grey Cups, the Stampeders are now tied with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for the fourth-most in CFL history(championship sports rings).
