DULUTH, Ga. Nike React Clearance . -- Miguel Angel Jimenez quickly shifted his focus back to the Ryder Cup after winning his first Champions Tour event. Jimenez held off Bernhard Langer to win the Greater Gwinnett Championship on Sunday, becoming only the third player to lead from start to finish in his debut on the 50-and-over tour. Jimenez, coming off a fourth-place finish in the Masters, closed with a 67 to finish two strokes ahead of Langer. Jimenez finished the tournament with 32 consecutive holes without a bogey at TPC Sugarloaf. The Spaniard said he cant make a commitment to the Champions Tour this year because his goal is making the European Ryder Cup team. "To me its not about money," Jimenez said. "Its about some different goals to make me feel proud of myself. To me I would feel nice to play on the Ryder Cup once more." Langer, the defending champion, shot his third-straight 68. Jimenez and Langer were tied at 10 under before a two-shot swing on No. 8. Jimenez needed only a short putt for a birdie, and Langer fell two strokes behind with his bogey. After that, Jimenez avoided mistakes down the stretch, leaving no opening for Langer or Jay Haas, who shot 67 and was third, four shots off the lead. Jimenez insisted the win wasnt easy. "When you hit the ball straight and you put the ball close to the hole it looks easy, but nothing is easy," he said. "You need to keep calm yourself. ... I like to feel the pressure and ... the people that are coming behind bite me." Langer said his inability to make birdie putts kept him from putting pressure on Jimenez. "I had a number of opportunities, just couldnt make any putts today," Langer said. "And he played very, very solid all day." Jimenez stretched his lead to three strokes before he showed that on this day even his mistakes brought no harm. He hit his tee shot on No. 15 into a tree -- but it bounced back into the fairway. From there, he hit his next shot into a bunker but still salvaged par. The win assured, Jimenez tipped his visor to the fans as he walked up the 18th fairway. He then winked and blew a kiss to a TV camera. He brought his victory cigar to his postgame press conference. "I showed my game is in very good shape now," said Jimenez, who added he isnt complaining about life at 50. "Im very happy with my age and the way Im doing," he said. "The last 15 years is when my best golf is coming. Its nice. No complaint with 50." Langer said he doesnt expect to see Jimenez on the Champions Tour again this year. "He said he wasnt going to play anymore this year because he wants ... to be the oldest European player to ever play on the Ryder Cup," Langer said. "Thats his goal. But, you know, goals can sometimes change. Who knows, maybe he makes the Ryder Cup team by July and hell decide to come out for a couple of weeks." Fred Couples, in the final group with Jimenez and Langer, shot 70 and was fourth. Langer tied for eighth and Couples tied for 20th in the Masters. Jimenez said coming out on top of the high-profile group made the win even nicer. "Of course its satisfaction," Jimenez said. "The better quality the field, the more satisfied you are with the victory. All three were playing very well in the Masters. We all were in contention. Thats nice." Steve Pate, Duffy Waldorf and David Frost tied for fifth. Willie Wood shot 66 and was in a group tied for eighth. Jimenez became the second straight player to win in his debut on the Champions Tour, following Jeff Maggert in last months Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. Rod Funseth (1983 Hall of Fame Tournament) and Bruce Fleisher (1999 Royal Caribbean Classic) are the only other players to lead from start to finish in their first Champions Tour events. Portugal and Sweden were the first two teams drawn by FIFA on Monday for the European playoffs, though the pairing was talked about as a clash of superstar forwards in a two-leg series scheduled for Nov. 15 and 19. "World-class players like Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic, they do something extra to change the game," Sweden coach Erik Hamren said. "I am pleased we have one, too. But we need our team to be really good." Also, France will play Ukraine, with the return game in Paris; Greece was paired with Romania; and Iceland, the lowest ranked of the eight teams at No. 46 in the world, will host the first leg against Croatia, which fired its coach last week. The four winners will complete Europes 13 entries in the 32-team World Cup draw on Dec. 6 in Salvador, Brazil. Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic were consigned to the playoffs after their teams finished second in their qualifying groups behind Russia and Germany, respectively. "They will be evenly balanced and very competitive games," Portugal coach Paulo Bento said. "Ibrahimovic is an imposing figure, but the Swedes are more than that, they are good collectively." Portugal also had to advance to the 2010 World Cup through a playoff, after twice drawing 0-0 with Sweden in the group. France, the 2006 World Cup runner-up, also makes its second straight trip to the playoffs after defending champion Spain won its group. Four years ago, a notorious handball by Thierry Henry helped France beat Ireland in extra time. "(Ukraine) dont concede many goals and it will be a long away trip for us," France coach Didiier Deschamps said. Cheap Tampa Bay Rays Jerseys. "But to have the return leg at home is a good thing." France and Ukraine last met in a 2012 European Championship match which was delayed several minutes after kick off by a torrential rain storm in Donetsk. France eventually won 2-0. Iceland, which has a population of about 315,000, is looking to become the smallest country ever to play at the World Cup. That record is held by 2006 qualifier Trinidad and Tobago, which had about 1.2 million. Though Iceland lacks the recent pedigree of Croatia, the 1998 semifinalist, the pairing pits a veteran coach against a novice. Iceland coach Lars Lagerback will be trying to reach his fourth straight World Cup with a third different team. He coached his native Sweden at the 2002 and 2006 tournaments, and Nigeria in 2010. Croatias playoff matches mark the coaching debut of 42-year-old Niko Kovac, who stepped up from the under-21 team to replace Igor Stimac, who was fired after poor results. "I met Niko a little when he took his (coaching) license," Lagerback said. "He looks like a clever guy." Kovac said he "did not expect this situation" and will work alongside his brother, Robert, another former World Cup stalwart for Croatia. "With him I am never afraid," said Kovac, who will be focusing on teamwork. "There was no team on the pitch. We have some good players but everyone working for himself." Greece coach Fernando Santos said he would have preferred to play the first match in Romania. "My message to the fans is that they should believe in the national team, go to the stadium, fill it, and put pressure on our opponents," Santos said. ' ' '
KANSAS CITY, Mo. Ecco Shoes Clearance Uk . -- The Royals shook up their coaching staff Thursday in an attempt to jumpstart their failing offence, making Dale Sveum the hitting coach and Mike Jirschele their third base coach. Pedro Grifol, who took over as hitting coach last season, will now instruct catchers. The moves were announced after the Royals finished off a disastrous homestand that included a sweep at the hands of Houston, and before they opened a four-game series in Toronto. Sveum said the Royals havent done a good enough job this season of hitting pitches in the upper half of the strike zone. "The bottom line is weve struggled with elevation and weve swung at pitches down in the zone probably way too much," he said. "From thigh high to the top of the strike zone, were not doing enough damage." The Royals began the day last in the majors with 21 homers, putting them on pace to match the 1976 club for the fewest in franchise history for a non-strike-shortened season. Theyre also last in the American League in runs and slugging percentage. "There is not one man in the lineup thats hitting the ball well," Royals designated hitter Billy Butler said Wednesday. "Were just cold." Yost said "a different voice can make a difference," to struggling batters, but the Royals have heard plenty of voices about hitting: Sveum is Kansas Citys fifth hitting coach in less than three seasons. The Royals let go of Kevin Seitzer two years ago in the hope that somebody else would help the club generate more power. Seitzer was eventually hired by the Blue Jays, who currently lead the majors with 76 homers -- more than Kansas City is on pace for all season. Jack Maloof and Andre David were hired before last season, but they only made it a couple of months before they were reassigned within the franchise. It was at that point that the Royals hired Grifol and Hall of Famer George Brett on an interim basis. The Royals showed signs of life once that duo was in charge, slowly climbing into playoff contention. Grifol was given the job on a full-time basis after Brett stepped down in July, but lasted less than a year in the role. "Hes the one that pulled us out of our trouble last year," Yost said of Grifol Thursday. "A year later, we find ourselves in the exact same spot." Sveum, a former Brewers and Cubs manager, had been serving as the Royals third base coach. But he also has plenty of experience as a hitting coach, helping Milwaukee finish in the top three of the National League in homers in each of his three seasons. "Hes got experience, he studies hitting," Yost said. "Hes got a lot of knowledge. He helped Prince Fielder get, in my opinion, to the next level as an offensive performer." Cheap Ecco Shoes Uk . TALLADEGA, Ala. Cheap Air Max 90 . -- Denny Hamlin started his full-time career at Joe Gibbs Racing with an upset victory in an exhibition race at Daytona. Over the years, he added three more wins in races that didnt count, including a sweep this season in the buildup to the Daytona 500. But when it came to the restrictor-plate races that paid points, Hamlin came up empty time and again. Until now. Hamlin, who opened the season with two exhibition victories only to finish second in the Daytona 500, was again sitting second in the closing laps Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway. But he won a drag race with leader Kevin Harvick on a restart with two laps remaining, and was out front when NASCAR froze the field because of debris from an accident. Hamlin let out a deep sigh when the yellow flag waved. "Superspeedway win," he said on his radio. "With points! With points!" "I think Ive gotten better. Ive come close. When you drive as aggressive as I drove early in my career on superspeedways, youre going to have a huge risk, huge reward," he said after the win. "I was either wrecking or finishing in the top three every single superspeedway race and was wrecking most of the time. I think this way of driving and the way Im doing things now kind of lends itself to being a little bit more consistent on these type of race tracks, and really you learn from the guys that are good at it." Hamlin became the eighth winner in 10 races this season as drivers jockey to grab the 16 spots available in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. A victory conceivably gives a driver an automatic berth, and Joe Gibbs Racing now has both Hamlin and Kyle Busch eligible for the Chase. "I wasnt ever worried, but you get a little bit more panicked when its, Win a race and youre in Chase, " he said. "You see all these guys logging wins, wins, wins, and the next thing you know theyre running out of Chase spots. Now we can be a little bit more relaxed." The win came at the track where Hamlin made a brief return last year -- he ran just 23 laps before turning his car over to Brian Vickers -- after missing four races with a broken back. Hamlins return to the car briefly built some momentum for the No. 11 team, but as his back continued to ache, the season fell apart in late summer and it took until the season finale for Hamlin to score his first win of the year. He also missed the Chase for the first time in his career. It didnt appear that Hamlin had enough to beat Harvick, already a two-time winner this season, until the final restart. Harvick didnt get the help he needed from behind, was hung out without any drafting partners, and Hamlin pulled out to a comfortable lead. "We were in a good spot there at the end, and what you would want to put yourself in a position to win," Harvick said. "Our line just never formed up." As Hamlin pulled away, an accident deep in the pack scattered debris, and NASCAR was forced to throw the caution when a bumper was seen laying on the surface. The yellow prevented Greg Biffle, who led five times for a race-high 58 laps, from pulling out of line in an attempt to grab the victory away from Hamlin. "I just didnt want to pass too early. I was going to be the lone soldier on the outside lane," Biffle said. "So I was just waiting. I was setting up to go by him but just never had the chance." Clint Bowyer finished third and was followed by Michael Waltrip Racing teammate Brian Vickers as Toyota took the victory and three of the top four spots. AJ Allmendinger finished fifth in a Chevrolet, followed by Paul Menard and then Harvick, who faded to seventh. Kasey Kahne, Kyle Larson and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. rounded out the top 10. Daytona 500 winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished a disappointing 26th despite leading three times for 26 laps, second most in the race. Danica Patrick led two times for six laps, and the crowd roared its approval when she drove to the front early in the race. She finished 22nd. "It was nice to lead laps," she said. "It was a fast, fast car so well be happy to take this one to Daytona." It was a rough day for Brad Keselowski, a two-time Talladega winner, who darted to the lead on Lap 14 but appeared to not have cleared Patrick before squeezing in front of her car. She tapped the back of Keselowskis car, sending him for a spin through the grass that caused enough damage to drop him six laps off the pace. "We werent clear enough to make that," crew chief Paul Wolfe told his driver. "Ill just call it at that: We werent clear enough to make that move." Keselowski raced in the heart of the pack after the first incident in an attempt to get his laps back under caution periods. But he was heavily criticized for triggering a 14-car accident with 51 laps remaining. The accident began when Keselowski spun in front of Trevor Bayne, and among those collected were Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson. "Brad made a pretty bold move early, a mind-boggling move, in going in front of Danica and spun out in front of the field and got away with it," Kenseth said. "This time we werent so lucky. He was driving really, really, really aggressively to try to get back up there. "If it was the other way around and it was anybody else except for him, wed all be getting lectured." Gordon also chastised Keselowski. "I had seen him for several laps driving over his head being pretty aggressive," Gordon said. "I knew he was laps down, but he wasnt doing anybody any favours, nor himself." Keselowski took the blame for the late accident. "I just spun out in front of the whole field," he said. "I dont know why, if I just busted my butt on my own or lost a tire, but I feel bad for everyone that got torn up." Air Max 90 Cheap Uk . He had even more fun Friday. Former Toronto Raptors president and general manager Bryan Colangelo addressed his tanking comments made at the MIT Sports Analytics Conference in Toronto on Friday and admitted it was merely a poor choice of words. Nike Air Force 1 Sale Uk . Speaking on TSN Radio 1050s TSN Drive with Dave Naylor on Monday, Colangelo said he had no intention of tanking the shortened 2011-12 season, but definitely wanted a high pick in the draft. "I wish that word wasnt used for headline reasons," said Colangelo, "but the story behind it was: how can we fix the system? How can we tweak the system to make it less likely that teams are rewarded for losing records? "I do believe that if youre as transparent as we were at the time - with our season seat holders, our fans, the market place and the media - everybody knew what the plan was and what we were going through. It didnt make it easy to lose games but there was anticipation that games would be lost. With that comes curtain rewards and in the system that we currently play under, the team with the worst record gets the greatest odds and a non-playoff team is in a lottery that can ultimately lead to them getting top-notch talent coming to their team." Colangelo said the team was happy getting Terrence Ross in the first round (8th overall) of the 2012 draft and would never tell a coach to lose games since it can only have negative long-term effects. "Coach was doing such a fabulous job with the group that there certainly was no intentional losing going on because we won far too many games than anyone anticipated and it put us in a position to still get a nice draft pick in Terrance Ross," said Colangelo. "But it certainly decreased our odds of getting the top choice, which was a franchise centre in Anthony Davis." Colangelo talked about when the team faced heavy scrutiny when they picked Jonas Valanciunas, who was selected in the first round (5th overall) in 2011. "We got booed off the stage when the announcement was made but that was the right pick for this organization. It was not an easy one to make knowing that Jonas would not be made available for at least a year and maybe more if the buyout hadnt been successfully negotiated. We knew it was going to be a tough scenario going into a new year without the inclusion of a top draft pick but the following season we also knew that not only would Jonas be coming but another fairly high-value draft selection - unknown at the time - would be helping us as well. Not to mention we would have cap space and greater developed players at that point." The Raptors finished the 2011-12 season with a 23-43 record, good for 11th in the Eastern Conference, 12 games behind the Philadelphia 76ers for the final playoff spot in the East, and the eighth-worst record in the NBA. The team neither rose nor fell in the lottery, receiving the eighth-overall pick in the 2012 draft where they selected Ross out of the University of Washington. The 2007 NBA Executive of the Year (with the Phoenix Suns) was speaking at the MIT Sports Analytics Conference on a proposal currently in front of the NBA Board of Governors which would see the draft lottery and any incentive to bottom out eliminated. "Admittedly, I will say, I tried to tank a couple years ago," said Colangelo to the conference. "And I didnt come out and say, Coach (Dwane Casey), youve got to lose games. I never said that. I wanted to have him establish a winning tradition and a culture and all of that, but I wanted to do it in the framework of playing and developing young players, and with that comes losing. Theres just no way to avoid that, but I never once said, Youve got to lose this game." Colangelo was relieved of his general manager position last May in favour of Masai Ujiri and eventually resigned his post as Raptors president the following month. Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hi Kerry: I was watching the Hawks-Blue Jackets game on Friday night - the game in which the Hawks scored with less than four seconds remaining to claim victory. My question concerns the face-off for that game-winning goal. Let me describe what I saw the previous play. With less than thirty seconds remaining, the puck was shot on the ice in front of the Jackets bench. Two Jacket players jumped on to the ice while two others went to the bench. The puck went just inside the Jackets zone where a Jacket defender got the puck with just over 20 seconds left. A linesman whistled down the play indicating that the Jackets had too many men on the ice and there would be a penalty with a faceoff deep in their end. As it turned out, the two referees counted the players on the ice and determined there were not too many players and NO penalty would be assigned. The face-off was still held deep in Jacket territory. The Hawks took control from the face-off and scored. My question to you is should not that face-off been held outside the Jackets blue line or at centre because the linesman blew down the play incorrectly? Since the Jackets had control of the puck when the "too many men" whistle blew, it seems to me unfair they should be penalized with the deep faceoff. Im sure the Leafs, Flyers and Devils agree with the call; however, I didnt and I am a Hawks fan. Could you please give me your take on this as I am sure it cost the Blue Jackets a very important point or two. Thanks, Doug MacLean --- Hi Doug: I have little doubt that the former Blue Jackets GM with the same name as yours would have been waiting near the officials dressing room looking for some clarification on this play as well if he still occupied thaat position. Adidas NMD Shoes Australia. The linesman clearly made an error in judgment when he determined the Blue Jackets were in violation of rule 74 - too many men on the ice - with 21.6 seconds remaining in regulation. Even though play was stopped through an officials error the face-off location in this case is determined by where the puck was last played under rule 76.2. “When the game is stopped for any reason not specifically covered in the official rules, the puck must be faced-off at a face-off spot in the zone nearest to where it was last played.” Defenceman Jack Johnson had the puck on his stick a couple of feet inside the Blue Jackets end zone when the linesman blew his whistle to stop play. As per rule 76.2 the face-off had to be conducted on the nearest end-zone face-off dot of the Blue Jackets. The only provision within the rules to relocate a face-off in the neutral zone following a linesmans error is contained in rule 81.2 - If the linesman shall have erred in calling an “icing the puck” infraction (regardless of whether either team is short-handed), the puck shall be faced-off on the center face-off dot. It is most unfortunate for the Blue Jackets that the whistle was not blown by the linesman when Jack Johnson first touched the puck when it rested on the blue line and prior to entering the defending zone. Had that been the case, the ensuing faceoff would have taken place on the neutral zone face-off dot. It might be unfair, Doug, that the Blue Jackets lost so much territorial advantage following the linesmans error but there was no option to locate the face-off in the neutral zone on this play. While the Blue Jackets did have some opportunities to get the puck out of their end zone following the face-off with 21.6 seconds remaining, I acknowledge it was a tough way for a team to lose such an important game. Sacramento, CA (SportsNetwork. Running Shoes Sale Uk Online .com) - Isaiah Thomas scored 17 points off the bench in his return to Sacramento to help the Phoenix Suns come through with a 115-106 victory over the scuffling Kings. Thomas, traded to the Suns in July after three very productive seasons in Sacramento, put up eight of his points during a 16-2 second-half run that lifted Phoenix to a season-high fifth straight win. Fellow reserve Marcus Morris also had a big night for the Suns, hitting 6-of-7 attempts from 3-point range to finish with 20 points. Eric Bledsoe and Markieff Morris contributed 18 and 17 points, respectively, while Goran Dragic had 16 along with six assists. We got a big lift from Marcus, Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. When we are making the shots, were getting good looks. Playing without star center DeMarcus Cousins due to a stomach virus, Sacramento suffered its seventh loss in eight games after failing to match Phoenixs markmanship from the perimeter, as the Suns went 14-of-33 on 3-point tries. Darren Collison paced the Kings with 19 points and Rudy Gay and Derrick Williams both had 16 in defeat. Reggie Evans compiled 11 points and 16 rebounds starting in place of Cousins. Well you give up 25 fastbreak points, 19 second-chance points, Kings coach Tyrone Corbin attributed to the loss. The second-chance points really hurt us. The Suns trailed 88-86 late in the third quarter before putting together their game-changing spurt, which was fueled by their long-range shooting. Marcus Morris and Thomas closed out the period with consecutive triples, and Morris drilled another to begin the fourth before Thomas converted a 3-point play that the ex-King followed with a driving layup to put Phoenix up 102-90 with 10:30 left. Sacramento, which went 6-of-21 from the floor in the fourth quarter, never recovered as the Suns stretched the lead to as much as 15 points down the stretch. Phoenix struggled offensively early on before catching fire near the end of the first quarter. The Suns hit 5-of-7 shots -- three of them from long distance -- during a 15-6 stretch that staked them to a 28-17 lead. Sacramento answered with an 8-0 run and continued to chip away, with Carl Landrys short jumper midway through the second quarter giving the Kings a 40-39 edge. The game remained tight for the remainder of the half, with Phoenix owning a 59-56 advantage following a Marcus Morris trey just prior to the buzzer. Phoenix then opened the second half with a 7-0 flurry to go up by double digits, but Collison knocked down a trio of 3-pointers during a 19-10 sequence that pulled the Kings within 76-75 with 5:46 left in the third quarter. Game Notes Sacramento had won five of its last seven matchups with the Suns, including a 114-112 double-overtime triumph in Phoenix in which Cousins totaled 25 points and 18 rebounds ... Yonder Alonso homered with two outs in the ninth inning to tie the game and Cameron Maybin hit an RBI bloop single with two outs in the 11th to give the Padres a 4-3 victory Saturday night. Chase Headley started the winning rally when he singled to left with two outs off Craig Stammen (0-2). Alonso walked before Maybin singled in front of right-fielder Jayson Werth. Headley easily beat the throw home. "I managed to get just enough bat on it," Maybin said. "It feels real great. Were grinding, man. It was bigger to get a win tonight. Weve been scuffling but weve been battling every night. For me it was huge because we have a chance to win the series tomorrow." Joaquin Benoit (2-0) pitched a perfect 11th for the win. Alonso tied the game at 3 in the ninth when he homered into the Jack Daniels party deck atop the right-field wall on a 1-1 pitch from Rafael Soriano. It was Alonsos fifth homer and Sorianos second blown save in 14 opportunities. Alonsos shot denied Washington rookie Blake Treinen his first big league win. Treinen was on track for the win after Ian Desmond hit a 432-foot, two-run home run with two outs in the seventh inning to give the Nationals a 3-2 lead. Cashner left with a 2-0 lead after six innings in his return from the disabled list. The tall Texan allowed only two hits, struck out five and walked one on 70 pitches. Out since mid-May with a sore right elbow, Cashner retired his final 16 batters and lowered his ERA to 2.13. "Its good having him back out there," Maybin said. "Hes a bulldog. Were confident whenever that guys out there." Cashner got in trouble in the first inning when the Nationals had runners on second and third with one out. But catcher Rene Rivera threw out Kevin Frandsen when he strayed too far off third and Ryan Zimmerman forced Adam LaRoche at second to end the inning. "It was fun to get back," Cashner said. "First inning there was a little trouble, buut it was a big throw by Rene getting that out there. Clearance Running Shoes Uk. I think my fastball had the most movement Ive had in a long time." Chris Denorfia struck out and Everth Cabrera flied out to left. Rivera was stranded at third in the eighth after he doubled to left and was sacrificed by pinch-hitter Denorfia. Cabrera flied out to centre and Carlos Quentin, pinch-hitting for left-hander Will Venable against righty Tyler Clippard, struck out. Treinen was making his third career start. He allowed two runs and five hits in six innings, struck out one and walked one. After his last start on May 22 his spot was skipped due to two days off. San Diego took a 2-0 lead against the rookie in the fourth on RBI doubles by Headley and Maybin. "I felt good physically," Treinen said. "I felt like I was getting myself in trouble by getting behind in counts. But I made pitches when I needed to and then in that one inning I threw some pitches out over the plate." The decision was announced Thursday by the Hall, which said Joe Torres plaque will have the logo of the New York Yankees. Plaques for Tom Glavine and Bobby Cox will have Atlanta Braves logos, and Frank Thomas will have the logo of the Chicago White Sox. The six will be inducted during ceremonies on July 27. The managers were elected last month by the Halls expansion-era committee and the players were chosen this month by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Of the 300 previous Hall members, 86 have caps with logos and 42 dont have caps. Maddux began his big league career with the Chicago Cubs from 1986-92, winning the first of his four Cy Young Awards in his final season at Wrigley Field. He was with the Braves from 1993-03, winning Cy Youngs in his first three seasons in Atlanta, then returned to the Cubs from 2004-06. He also played for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres from 2006-08. "I feel good about it, I spent half my career in Chicago and half of my career in Atlanta," Maddux said during a news conference in Arlington, Texas. "I love both places. Obviously, I feel like I had more success as a Brave. We did get a World Series there, but I kind of came up a Cub. For me, I couldnt pick. I really couldnt. ... So Im going to go in neutral, I guess." Hall President Jeff Idelson said a logo makes sense for those "whose most compelling contributions clearly took place with one team" and not having a team logo is "equally acceptable" for those whose careers were built significantly among multiple teams. "Regardless of the selection, a Hall of Famer belong to every team for which he played or managed, as well as every fan who followed his career," Idelson said. La Russa managed the Chicago White Sox (1979-86), Oakland (1986-95) and St. Louis (1996-11), winnning World Series titles in 1989, 2006 and 2011. Authentic NFL Jerseys Cheap. . "The Chicago White Sox gave me my start in the game as a big league manager for my first eight seasons in my 33-year managerial career," La Russa said. "In Oakland, we recorded four first-place finishes in 10 years, winning three pennants and a World Series. And in St. Louis, our clubs won three pennants and two titles in 16 years. Its the totality of the success of each of those three teams that led me to Cooperstown, so I am choosing to not feature a logo so that fans of all clubs can celebrate this honour with me." Torre managed the Yankees from 1996-07, winning Series titles in 1996 and from 1998-00. He also managed the New York Mets (1997-81), Atlanta (1982-84), St. Louis (1990-95) and the Dodgers (2008-10). "When I became the manager of the New York Yankees, it was an opportunity to realize my lifelong dream of winning the World Series," Torre said. "We were fortunate enough to succeed in our first season in 1996, and in the years that followed, we wrote some great new chapters in Yankee history." Decisions were relatively simple for the others. Glavine pitched for the Braves from 1987-02 and in 2008, spending 2003-07 with the Mets. Choosing the Braves was easy for Glavine, who said he knew it had to be a tough decision for Maddux because of his time with the Cubs. Still, Glavine is surprised about Maddux choosing no logo. "It still was a lot of fun for me to be his teammate," Glavine said before the annual dinner of the Boston chapter of the BBWAA. Cox managed the Braves from 1978-81, managed Toronto from 1982-85, then returned to Atlanta as general manager. He became the Braves manager again in 1990 and stayed through 2010, leading Atlanta to 14 straight division titles and a World Series championship in 1995. Thomas was with the White Sox from 1990-05, then split 2006-08 between Oakland and Toronto. ' ' '

Bradley, 26, heads to Toronto from Roma for a reported fee of $10 million and a salary of $7.1 million. "To acquire a star midfielder like Michael Bradley, seen by many as the top American player in the world, alongside Jermain Defoe, makes this a groundbreaking day for Toronto FC and for Major League Soccer," said Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment president and CEO Tim Leiweke of the clubs signings. A visibly emotional Leiweke said that the investment came down to one question that the team had to ask. "Why cant we be great?" he added. "We didnt win anything today, but we created a great opportunity." Defoe, who will return to Spurs on loan until Feb. 28, spoke highly of the reception hes received so far in Toronto and spoke of his desire to hit the ground running. "I feel at home already," he said. "As players, all you want to do is put your boots on, get out there and let your football do the talking...I feel blessed and honoured and Im looking forward to it so much." Asked if a place on Englands 2014 World Cup squad weighed in on his decision to come to North America, Defoe admitted that playing time was his primary concern. "Its important to be playing," he explained. "To get into a World Cup or European Cup squad, its based on merit...if selected, Ill be ready." Bradley, whose unveiling was not previously advertised by the club, returns to MLS for the first time since 2005. With Defoe and Bradley in the fold, Toronto FCs number of designated players stands at four - one more than the league-allowed three. With new Brazilian striker Gilberto signed in the fall, Argentinian midfielder Matias Laba is expected to be the odd man out. HOUSTON -- Chris Paul had 30 points and 12 assists, Jamal Crawford added 22 points and the Los Angeles Clippers clinched their franchise-record third straight playoff appearance with a 118-107 win over the Houston Rockets on Saturday night. The loss broke a five-game winning streak for Houston, which was without two of its starters as Dwight Howard and Pat Beverley sat out with injuries. The Clippers trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half before using two big runs to take the lead. Houston stuck around for most of the second half before consecutive 3s by Matt Barnes and Darren Collison made it 114-101 late in the fourth. But it wasnt all good for Los Angeles, as Blake Griffin left in the first quarter with back spasms and didnt return, and Glen Davis missed the second half for disciplinary reasons after throwing a temper tantrum in the second quarter. James Harden led the Rockets with 32 points, and Chandler Parsons had 28. DeAndre Jordan added 20 points with 12 rebounds for the Clippers, who are third in the Western Conference. Crawford scored all of the Clippers points in an 8-1 run to start the fourth quarter and leave them up 96-85. An 8-3 run by Houston cut the lead to 102-96 with five minutes remaining. Harden capped it with a free throw after a technical foul on Paul. The Rockets scored the first five points of the third quarter to take a 63-61 lead. The teams exchanged the lead several times in that quarter before a layup by Ryan Hollins left Los Angeles up 88-84 entering the fourth quarter. The first half was filled with drama for the Clippers, who lost Griffin in the first quarter before the incident wiith Davis in the second. Air Jordan Wholesale Uk. There appeared to be minimal contact between Griffin and Donatas Motiejunas before Griffin dropped to his hands and knees on his way to the bench after a timeout was called midway through the first quarter. He was clutching his lower back and remained on the court for a couple of minutes before being helped to his feet. He was biting his jersey as he gingerly walked off the court and to the locker room. Davis, whose nickname is "Big Baby," was apparently upset after being taken out in the second quarter and threw a temper tantrum at coach Doc Rivers. Rivers immediately sent him to the locker room and the team announced that he would not return after halftime. Davis was 0-for-2 with a steal in less than four minutes in the first half. With Griffin out, Houston used a 7-2 spurt to start the second quarter and extend its advantage to 40-25. The Rockets were still up by 15 points a couple of minutes later when the Clippers used an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 44-37. Harden made three free throws before another run -- this one 14-2 -- gave Los Angeles a 51-49 lead. Paul, who had 17 points in the second quarter, scored the first 10 points in that span with two 3s and he dished an alley-oop to Jordan to cap it with a dunk. Los Angeles led by a point soon after that before scoring six straight points to extend the lead to 61-54 Houston scored the last four points of the quarter to cut the lead to 61-58 at halftime. PHOENIX -- The good news for the Portland Trail Blazers is they only face Goran Dragic and the Phoenix Suns one more time. Cheap Shoes Wholesale Free Shipping . And thats not until spring. Dragic scored 31 points, Channing Frye added 25 and the Suns used their up-tempo style to recover from a poor start and beat Portland 120-106 Wednesday night and snap the Blazers 11-game winning streak. Markieff Morris scored 19 and twin Marcus Morris 15 for the Suns, who wiped out a 16-point second-quarter deficit to hand the Blazers their first loss since Nov. 5 against Houston. Two of Portlands three defeats have come to the Suns, who shot 52 per cent from the field behind the speedy Dragic, who was one point shy of his career-high and added 10 assists. "Im glad we dont have to play Phoenix until April," said Blazers coach Terry Stotts, whose team is 1-2 against the Suns and 12-1 against the rest of the league. "After we got a lead they completely outplayed us. They ran, they rebounded, they played an excellent game. They have played us very well and we will see April 4 if anything changes." LaMarcus Aldridge had 24 points and Damian Lillard scored 16 points for the Blazers, who had also won six straight on the road but couldnt keep up with the new-look Suns, who moved a game over .500. "We already played those guys three times and in all those games, we were better or we were close," said Dragic, who hit 4 of 5 3-pointers. "I dont know why. I think theyre a good matchup for us. They want to play slow in the half court and we want to run. And thats to our advantage." Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said before the game that he wanted to push the pace, adding, "Were not good when we hold the ball." But the Suns looked sluggish early and Portland looked poised to match the third-longest win streak in franchise history. Then Dragic took over. Playing without backcourt mate Eric Bledsoe (bruised shin) for a sixth straight game, Dragic fueled a 40-point second-quarter with a variety of 3-pointers, midrange jumpers and nifty passes for buckets on the fast break. Frye helped by heating up from the outside. Portland turned a 39-23 deficit into a 61-58 halftime lead. "Goran has just been on a tear," Frye said. "When he is feeling it like that you just give it to him and get the hell out of the way." Fryes 3 to start the second half was the beginning of a 10-0 spurt and he hit another 3 to start the fourth quarter as the Suns built a 97-78 lead. "Every time we look at the tape, if we play half court we have problems," Dragic said. "But when we run we got those easy, open 3s or easy layups. Everybody wants to play like that. Its really fun." It was no fun for the Blazers, who had another miserable visit to the desert. It was Portlands 22nd loss in the past 26 trips to Phoenix, including a loss on opening night. Not even Bledsoes continued absence could keep the surprising Suns from winning for the third time in four games. After limping through the morning shootaround, Bledsoe had an MRI that Hornacek said "didnt show anything besides what they knew already, which is a contusion." Bledsoe has been sidelined since colliding with teammate P.J. Tucker in practice Nov. 17. The Blazers havent had the same uncertainty, starting the same five players all 16 games. And Portland came out with much more energy early, racing to a commanding lead early in the second quarter behind Aldridges play inside and ex-Sun Robin Lopezs work on the boards. But the Blazers struggled to contain Dragic. After Lillard struggled to stay in front of him, Nicolas Batum took a turn on Dragic, who added five rebounds and four turnovers as Phoenix set a season-high in points. "Thats something special in the NBA to win that many games in a row," Aldridge said. "Were definitely proud of it but we have to bounce back and not lose two in a row." NOTES: Hornacek said they plan each game as if Bledsoe wont play so theyll be "surprised" when he does. "I thought hed miss one game or maybe two games. But hes got to be able to push off and if he cant then he doesnt play." ... The Blazers made only 7 of 19 3s after entering the game shooting 42 per cent. But Stotts insisted before the game he believes they can continue to shoot well if his top five shooters take the bulk of the shots. "Its not far-reaching to think that each one of those guys could shoot 40 per cent or better on the season," he said. "So is 42 per cent sustainable? I think it is." . TORONTO -- Dave Bolland is skating again. Cheap Nike Shoes Wholesale Free Shipping . Thats significant progress more than two months after Zack Kassians left skate blade severed a tendon in the back of Bollands left ankle. But the Toronto Maple Leafs centre still doesnt know when hell return to practice, let alone game action. "Who knows?" Bolland said Saturday after skating solo for the fourth time this week. "I want to be out there with the guys, and I want to skate with them. Thats the next goal." Thats a reasonable goal but not one the Leafs are going to rush toward, even though Bolland will miss his 35th game Saturday night and likely several more. Toronto is 14-15-5 since Bolland went out, but coach Randy Carlyle affirmed that the 27-year-old wont be back until hes 100 per cent. "We cant afford to take any type of risk with this type of injury," Carlyle said. "We all know that its a tough one to come back from. Its a long, tedious process, and specifically where it was in the tendon that was injured, its pretty dramatic." Bolland knows all too well just how long and tedious this process has been. He wasnt able to put weight on the ankle for a long time and only this week was able to get his foot in a specially-designed boot and get back on the ice. "Its a slow rehab," Bolland said in his first comments to reporters since November. "Its not like any other rehab when you break an ankle and you can just say six weeks and youre back and its healed. You cut a tendon and its got to re-heal itself. Youve got to do the rehab, do the movements in with the trainers and in at the gym. Its not fun. Its gruelling." The gruelling part isnt just physical pain, its the mental anguish of the man who scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal for the Chicago Blackhawks knowing he cant help his hometown team while sitting out. Bolland said he has gotten "a little mentally broken down" along the way. "When youre watching and youre off the ice it does screw with your head a lot, mentally, because I think when you cut a tendon, its a big deal," he said. "You never know." Bolland still doesnt know. All that he can recall is how Ottawa Senators defenceman Erik Karlsson returned 10 weeks after having his Achilles tendon sliced and the struggles Mike Modano dealt with when he had a similar injury. The Toronto native didnt consult with Karlsson or Modano about their experiences, but he knows what they went through. "I remember (Modano) saying that it wasnt fun coming back from that," Bolland said. "I could feel that pain, too." Physically, Bolland still feels the pain. He hopes the good days outweigh the bad as he works back. "It gets sore once in a while when Im on the ice," Bolland said. "When youre skating, youre doing cross-overs, youre stopping, when youre using that tendon, youre going to feel the pain and youre going to have some situations like that." Bolland said hes learning how to do everything all over again because of how long he has been kept off the ice. While away, he was able to do off-ice workouts, but nothing compares to skating. Skating with teammates would put him another step closer. Its possible Bolland goes on the Leafs upcoming Western Conference road trip, but Carlyle said that decision had not been made yet. Bolland, who had six goals and four assists in his first 15 games with the Leafs, wants to go. But he understands the need for caution. "You want to be out there," he said. "You think some days you can push it and you push it too much and you set yourself behind. Youre just hurting yourself. I think for myself its being patient and being ready when Im ready." Notes -- Leafs centre Peter Holland wasnt feeling well and was given Saturdays morning skate off. Carlyle said he expects Holland to play against the Montreal Canadiens. ... Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hi Mr. Fraser, Im a fan of the column as you put a good perspective on some of the crazy reffing that goes on. I would love to know how Torontos Stephane Robidas isnt suspended for elbowing Vancouvers Shawn Matthias in the head with a dirty blatant elbow this past Saturday. Now Vancouver has one of its hottest players out with a concussion. Its pretty infuriating when we see Alex Burrows get two games for a much less dangerous hit, then Robidas gets away with a dirty, blatant elbow to the head. Whats wrong with this league? Ted Goodsell Airdrie, Alberta Ted: You are one of four fans that dropped this question in the Cmon Ref mail bag just last night who are curious as to why no suspension was imposed to Stephane Robidas after he elbowed Shawn Matthias in a play that resulted in concussion-like symptoms to the Vancouver player. The Player Safety Committee has a series of criteria to determine a hit they deem to be worthy of a suspension. You can find various examples and explanations in tutorial videos contained on the NHL.com player safety website. The committee, headed by Stephane Quintal, attempt to rule in a fair and consistent manner based on the criteria they have been handed. This is certainly no easy task and every decision (or non-decision) they make is closely scrutinized by team personnel, the media and fans alike. Every play is different and must be judged on its own merit. In many situations it appears to me that too narrow a margin exists between determining an illegal play worthy of a penalty imposed by the referee in the game or elevated to a suspension after the fact with regard to player safety. Even though this was an elbow infraction, rule 48 is the modern day standard bearer for illegal contact to the head. The rule provides a list of criteria that not only defines an illegal check to the head but offers caveats or exemptions that carry forward and become part of the criteria used by the Player Safety Committee to determine suspensions. Critical to their consideration is if an opponents head was the mmain point of contact and especially whether the player attempted to hit squarely through the opponents body and the head was not picked as a result of poor timing, poor angle of approach, or unnecessary extension of the body upward or outward. Wholesale Nike Shoes Australia. This is certainly an abundance of verbiage to digest when breaking down hits that result in varying degrees of contact to the head of a player. It is my opinion that too many caveats are being considered for not suspending a player when significant contact to the head results from a high, illegal hit. As we look at a couple of different angles when Robidas initiated contact with Matthias we are presented with evidence that would most likely have been strongly considered by the P.S.C. to determine a suspension was not warranted to the Toronto player. The camera shot from the stands, looking through the back of Matthias, indicates that Robidas elevated arm/elbow appears to make initial contact just below the chin (neck area) of the Vancouver player. As Robidas initiates contact his upper body slides off the centre mass of his opponent and results in Matthias head becoming the main point of contact with the right-back shoulder and upper tricep of Robidas. The cross ice shot is somewhat more incriminating that the elbow did some residual damage but it can be argued that Robidas elbow rode up after making initial contact below the chin. In the eye and mind of those responsible for determining a suspension this becomes an illegal elbow worthy of a minor penalty and does not cross the line of the criteria they utilize for the purpose of suspension. Some (or even many of us) wont agree with the rationale or criteria currently being utilized to determine a suspension. Many would suggest it falls short in an effort to hold players accountable for high hits that result in various degrees of contact to the head of an opponent and can result in injury. The General Managers are presently meeting and can recommend changes to this process if they deem them to be warranted. Its their stick and puck and until such time as changes are made it will be business as usual. I wish Shawn Matthias a full and speedy recovery. ' ' '
HAMILTON - The Toronto Marlies scored three goals in the second period en route to a 4-1 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs in the American Hockey League on Friday. Adidas Originals Shoes Wholesale . Spencer Abbott had a goal and two assists, and Kory Nagy, T.J. Brennan and Brad Ross also scored for the Marlies (13-9-1). Drew MacIntyre made 28 saves. Louis Leblanc had the lone goal for the Bulldogs (12-11-3), while Robert Mayer stopped 20 shots in a losing effort. The Marlies enjoyed offensive pressure from the opening whistle Friday, but the Bulldogs were able to effectively limit their scoring chances early in the first period. That luck ran out at 11:08 of the period, when Andrew MacWilliams point shot bounced off the end boards and straight to Abbott to the right of Mayers net. Abbott easily slotted the puck into the empty net with the goaltender well out of position. Hamilton pushed back immediately, and nearly found an equalizing goal when winger Patrick Holland drove the net and one-timed a centring pass toward MacIntyre. The goaltender was up to the challenge, and dropped low to kick aside the slap shot. The Bulldogs began the second period with pace, and saw two quality scoring chances pass them by when Holland and Nick Tarnasky were both denied by MacIntyre from close range. After weathering the early pressure, the Marlies struck to double their lead at 7:24 of the second period. David Broll collected the puck in the left corner, and centred for the streaking Nagy, who tipped the puck through the legs of Mayer. The lead swelled to 3-0 with Toronto on the power play, after Hamiltons Gabriel Dumont was whistled for kneeing. Stuart Percy shifted the puck across the blue-line to Brennan, whose low wrist shot moved through a screen and the pads of Mayer at 9:03 of the second period. Momentum was clearly with the Marlies, who continued to threaten in the offensive end against a disheartened Bulldogs team. That pressure paved the way for a fourth goal, as Tyler Biggs carried along the left wing unguarded, and threaded a cross-ice pass to Ross at the far post. With Mayer sprawling to his left, Ross waited and lifted a wrist shot over the goaltenders outstretched glove at 10:35 of the second period. Friday marked the Bulldogs annual Toy Toss game, and Louis Leblanc gave the fans in attendance reason to throw their plush toys when he scored to break Drew MacIntyres shutout bid at 11:01 of the second period. The puck took a radical bounce off the foot of Martin St. Pierre behind the net, and rolled to Leblanc in front, who turned and fired a low wrist shot through the legs of MacIntyre. Leblanc had the Bulldogs best chance for a goal in the third period, stickhandling into the high slot on the power play and snapping a heavy wrist shot that clanged off the crossbar and lay in MacIntyres crease. But no Bulldog could poke the loose puck over the goal line. Cecis second-period goal stood up as the winner as the Ottawa Senators downed the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 before a disappointed crowd of more than 50,000 people Sunday in the NHL Heritage Classic. "It means a lot," said Ceci, a 20-year-old Ottawa native. "These are points that we need right now going down the stretch, and it means a lot to me. Im just trying to earn my spot here." The Senators (27-23-11) posted their first win in three games and kept pace in the race for the eighth and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. The Canucks (28-25-10) suffered their ninth loss in 10 games and remained on the bubble in their quest for eighth in the Western Conference. Ceci put the Senators ahead 3-2 midway through the second. The defenceman moved up, took a pass from Jason Spezza, and fired home a shot from right wing on a three-on-two rush. He helped the Sens make a classic comeback as they produced four unanswered goals after trailing 2-0 in the first five minutes. The score was tied 2-2 after the first period before Ceci decided the outcome in the second and Greening closed out the scoring in the third. "I think it was huge that we tied the game before going into the intermission," said Ceci. "That was big for us, just because weve had it tough lately before the (Olympic) break and the game right after it." The Senators bounced back from a humiliating 6-1 home loss to Detroit on Thursday in their first game after the Olympic break. Ceci went minus-2 in the loss. "Its great to be young," said Senators coach Paul MacLean. "They have short memories." Both of Cecis goals this season have been game-winners. He led the Sens to a win over St. Louis in mid-December. Clarke MacArthur, Erik Karlsson and Colin Greening, into an empty net with 1:33 left in the game, also scored for Ottawa. Jason Garrison and Zack Kassian scored for the Canucks before Ottawa goaltender Craig Anderson shut them out the rest of the game. Anderson, who appeared to have little difficulty playing in a stadium venue with different lighting than a traditional arena, posted his 20th win of the season, recording 29 saves as Vancouver outshot the Sens 31-28. MacLean praised Anderson for making difficult saves look easy, but the goaltenders calm demeanour between the pipes defied how he actually felt at the outset of the game. "It was one of those things where you have the butterflies going and the nerves going," he said. "Everythings just a little bit different than your usual normal routine. a Its a big win for us and its a great venue and its one of those things that well be smiling about for while, because its kind of a once-in-a-lifetime experience." Canucks goalie Eddie Lack, who appeared to be fighting the puck at times and gave up more rebounds than usual, suffered the loss as he drew his third consecutive start following the NHLs Olympic break. Nominal No. 1 Roberto Luongo watched from the bench while sportingg a toque and replica vintage pads and gloves. Adidas Shoes Online Sale Australia. Vancouver coach John Tortorella spent much of his post-game news conference talking about his goaltending decision rather than Vancouvers continued scoring struggles, which were made worse by Daniel Sedins departure due to injury in the second period. "Before this game, the way Eddie was playing, I thought (he) was our best chance to get these two points," said Tortorella. Fans chanted for Luongo during the game but Tortorella, who said he didnt notice the crowd activities, stuck with Lack. The coach said Luongo was angry about the decision, but believes the veteran goaltender will use the sit-down as motivation. "I thought (Lack) looked not himself, but he made some big saves, too," said Tortorella. "Im sure hed like to have that third one back." The game was designed as a tribute to the 1915 Stanley Cup final series between the eventual-champion Vancouver Millionaires and Ottawa Senators. The Canucks wore maroon and cream-coloured replica Millionaires jerseys while the Senators sported duds similar to those of their predecessors. Coaches wore varsity-styled jackets rather than their usual suits. "It was a pretty cool setting, just to have that many people watch the game, and it was loud all game long," said Ceci. "We were in Vancouver, but there was a lot of Ottawa fans, so its good to see fans come out all that way." The NHLs outdoor series was forced to go indoors as the B.C. Place Stadium roof was closed due to rain. The weather teased Vancouver and Ottawa players who had hoped the roof would remain open. "I was glad (organizers) had the option to close it, because it probably would have ruined the game if it was raining out," said Spezza. "The ice got bad as it was with it closed." While the main goal was to get two points, Spezza enjoyed playing the role of spoiler before the large crowd. "There was so much hype around the game and so much talk about it," he said. "Its nice to get the win. It makes it more enjoyable for everybody, our families included. We dont have to tippy-toe around tonight." Spezza, who provided a nifty backhand pass on Cecis winning goal, hopes the win is also the start of Ottawas march to the playoffs. "We had a tough one against Detroit," he said. "It was a very important game, and we knew that we needed this one." Tortorella felt the loss of Daniel Sedin, who was hurt in a collision with Ottawa defenceman Marc Methot affected his team offensively because lines had to be juggled. His twin brother Henrik was less than pleased with the outcome. "Thats a game we should have won," he said. Vonn flew back to Vail, Colo., last week after hurting her surgically repaired right knee at a downhill race in France. "Her knee was swollen again after Val dIsere," U.S. womens head coach Alex Hoedlmoser told The Associated Press. "She is working with the guys from (her own team) Red Bull and the medical staff to get that under control." Hoedlmoser added that "there is no decision yet if, or where she is going to race ahead of the Olympics." Vonn needed surgery in February to reconstruct two knee ligaments after a crash in super-G at the world championships, and then partially re-tore one of them in November. Vonn returned to the World Cup in Lake Louise, Alberta, in the first week of December and finished 40th and 11th in two downhills before placing fifth in super-G the next day. After the next setback in Val dIsere, Vonn said she would compete in "one maybe two races before the Olympics." "Im going to play it safe and race minimal races, so I can get the confidence and the timing and the feeling of racing again," Vonn said last weekend. "Im really going to be safe and smart as I can." Vonn hopes to defend her Olympic downhill title on Feb. 12. The womens super-G in Sochi is three days later. "Lindsey prefers tto work quietly on her comeback," Hoedlmoser said. The next World Cup speed races are Jan. 9-12 in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, where Vonn won a super-combined event in 2009. Hoedlmoser said he cant predict whether Vonn might start in the Austrian resort. "She has indicated she might consider racing Cortina (on Jan. 16-19) but its too early to say that shes going to," Hoedlmoser said. "Maybe she wont race at all if she feels she can do without another race in her preparation for Sochi. I think shes handling it well and shes determined to race in Sochi." According to American teammate Mikaela Shiffrin, Vonn has been "trying to stay quiet" since leaving the World Cup circuit last week. Shiffrin was convinced that Vonn was doing everything possible to make it to Sochi. "She is a tough girl, competing with a knee that just has a mind of its own right now," Shiffrin said. "I think theyll figure something out so she can be at her best." Shiffrin expected Vonn "to do a few races and to really save up so she can try to perform and represent the U.S. in the Olympics." "I think thats still her goal," Shiffrin said. "Theyve been working on helmet designs ... it looks like her helmets are sweet and I am sure shes fired up to still try to race the Olympics." ' ' '
Miami, FL (SportsNetwork. Authentic Malcom Brown Jersey .com) - Maybe the Chargers thought their bye was this week. San Diego will actually be off next week and will have plenty of time to think about a humbling 37-0 loss at Miami on Sunday. Ryan Tannehill threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns in just three quarters of work for the Dolphins (5-3), who completely dominated en route to their third straight win. It was Miamis most efficient outing of the season and clearly San Diegos worst. The Chargers (5-4) have lost three in a row and were blanked for the first time since a 34-0 loss at Kansas City on Oct. 31, 1999. The Dolphins racked up 441 yards of offense and the defense came up with three interceptions of Philip Rivers, as Miami pitched its first shutout since a 21-0 win over New England on Dec. 10, 2006. I was confident going into the game that we were going to play well, said Dolphins coach Joe Philbin, who left the team for two days during the week to be with his father who died on Friday. It was a total team effort in all phases of the game. Tannehill completed 24-of-34 passes without an interception and was Miamis second-leading rusher with 47 yards on four carries. He left in favor of Matt Moore to start the fourth quarter. It was a great team win, said Tannehill. Now we need to build on it. Rivers exited the contest late in the third quarter after completing just 12- of-23 passes for 138 yards. He was also sacked three times and lost a fumble, as San Diego managed only 178 total yards and a mere 10 first downs. We didnt have a good day as a football team today, said Chargers coach Mike McCoy. Poor in all phases. We have to figure this thing out, as coaches and players, and turn this around. The Chargers actually looked good on their first series, holding the ball for half of the first quarter after the opening kickoff. A pair of long third-down conversions had San Diego deep in Miami territory, but a holding penalty negated a big run. The Chargers then nearly picked up a 3rd-and-17 when Keenan Allen came up a yard short at the Miami 22. Electing to try for the first down, Branden Oliver was stopped behind the line of scrimmage on fourth down. It was all Miami from there. The Dolphins went 77 yards with their first possession and took a 7-0 lead when Tannehill found Charles Clay in the back left corner of the end zone from six yards away on the only third down of the 10-play set. Tannehill completed each of his six passes during the march, including a 24-yard connection with Clay early in the series. After a San Diego punt, Miami drove 61 yards for another touchdown. Tannehill keyed it with a 22-yard run to the 10-yard line and Lamar Miller scored from the two three plays later for 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. Rivers was then picked off by Reshad Jones on the first play after the kickoff and the Dolphins converted with a 26-yard field goal from Caleb Sturgis, who added a 25-yard boot on the next Miami series for a 20-0 advantage. He missed from 45 yards away as time expired in the first half. The Dolphins outgained the Chargers 282-118 in the first 30 minutes, and it was more of the same in the second half. Miami took the opening kickoff and drove 72 yards for a touchdown. A San Diego penalty for illegal use of hands gave the Dolphins a first down after they would have been forced to punt following a third-down sack. Tannehill took full advantage, capping the series with a 21-yard scoring strike to Rishard Matthews to make it 27-0. Brent Grimes intercepted Rivers on the next Chargers possession, leading to another short Sturgis field goal. Miami failed to convert another Grimes pick on the next San Diego series and punted for the first time, but Rivers was sacked and fumbled just three plays later. Jared Odrick recovered for the Dolphins at the San Diego 14 and Tannehill immediately took advantage with a touchdown pass to Jarvis Landry on the very next play for a 37-0 cushion. Rivers took a shot to the elbow on the sack and left the contest on the next series in favor of Kellen Clemens. Game Notes The Dolphins have won eight straight against the Chargers in Miami. San Diegos last win in South Florida was on Jan. 2, 1982, the epic 41-38 overtime victory in the divisional playoffs ... Miami posted its largest shutout margin since a 42-0 victory over Kansas City on Oct. 11, 1987 ... The Dolphins scored a touchdown on their opening possession for just the second time this season ... Dolphins guard Daryn Colledge was inactive because of a back injury and had a streak of 135 consecutive games stopped ... Chargers center Rich Ohrnberger left the contest with injured ribs and nose tackle Sean Lissemore suffered a quadriceps injury. Authentic Julian Edelman Jersey . Orlando trailed by 22 points well into the third quarter and was down 83-65 with under 11 minutes left, then outscored the Hornets 40-17 the rest of the way to send Charlotte to a fourth consecutive defeat. LOS ANGELES -- If you want to bury the Los Angeles Kings, you better dig a deep hole and bring a lot of nails. Cheap Air Max 95 For Sale . Because theyre coming back at you. Captain Dustin Brown accounted for the latest Houdini-like escape, scoring at 10:26 of double overtime Saturday night as the Kings rallied to defeat New York 5-4 and leave the Rangers in a 2-0 hole in the Stanley Cup final. The Los Angeles captain ended the second-longest night in Kings history (the longest was 31:40 of overtime against Chicago on June 8, 2013) by tipping in a Willie Mitchell shot from the point. The Kings become the first team in Stanley Cup playoffs history to overcome a two-goal deficit to win three consecutive games. They also did it in Game 7 of the Western Conference final in Chicago (a 5-4 OT win) and Game 1 of the Cup final (3-2 OT). They have gone 7-0 in elimination games during these playoffs. Amazingly the favoured Kings have yet to lead in the Cup final, pulling ahead only in OT both games. "The way we play, everyones talking about how we come back. I think its more how we turn the tide of the game over the course of the game," said Brown. "Were not worried about scoring the game-winning goal. Were just worried about playing our game and grinding away. "It starts with one (goal) and thats what our mentality is. Whether were down two, up two, the situation doesnt change for us ... the mentality of our team is very black and white." Added Anze Kopitar: "Its not encouraging to get down, but it seems like when we do get down that desperation kicks in. I think we showed that again tonight." "Sometimes we do play our best hockey when we are desperate," he added. The series switches to Madison Square Garden with games Monday and Wednesday and the odds are heavily on the side of never-say-die Los Angeles, which trailed by two goals on three different occasions Saturday. New York coach Alain Vigneault tried to look for positives. "I think weve played close to nine periods now. For the most part Ive liked a lot of things about our game," he said. "Our guys are trying real hard. Were going to continue to try. I mean, both games we had opportunities. We didnt get it done. "Were going home in front of our great fans. Were going to be ready for the next game." If anyone is desperate, its the Rangers now. They have a huge boulder to roll up the Cup final hill. Home teams sweeping Games 1 and 2 of the final have won 32-of-35 series (.914 per cent) since the championship series went to a best-of-seven format in 1939. The only positive for New York is the Penguins (2009) and Bruins (2011) both came back from losing the first two games of the final away from home to take the Cup. "We all battled. I battled," said Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist. "When you play five periods, obviously the difference is not very big." Brown helps set the Kings battling tone, according to teammate Jarret Stoll. It was the captains fifth career post-season game-winner. "Hard, physical, leads by his play," Stoll said of Brown. "Big part of our team, huge part of our team. No other guy should have the C on his jersey, thats for sure. Big goals, big plays, big games. He does it all." It marks the first time ever that Games 1 and 2 of the Cup final have gone to overtime three straight years (L.A-New Jersey in 2012 and Chicago-Boston in 2013). Prior to that, it had been 61 years since the opening two games of the final went to extra time. It was also the fourth OT game for the Kings in their last five outings and the fourth for the Rangers in their past six. The overall OT record for the two in these playoffs is 4-3 for Los Angeles and 2-3 for New York. Its been a marathon playoff journey for both teams. Saturdays game was the 23rd of the post-season and 105th of the campaign for the Kings. It was No. 22 and 104, respectively, for the Rangers. Stoll, Mitchell, Dwight King and Marian Gaborik scored for Los Angeles before a sellout crowd of 18,532 at Staples Center. Justin Williams had three assists. The Kings have scored three-plus goals in eight consecutive games. Ryan McDonagh, Mats Zuccarello, Martin St. Louis and Derick Brassard replied for the Rangers, who jumped into a 2-0 lead for the second game in a row. Los Angeles outshot New York 32-29 in regulation time, including 12-7 in the third. The shots were 8-6 for the Rangers in the first overtime and 6-1 for the Kings in the second. "Usually its not a very pretty (OT) goal and thats what happened tonight," said Kopitar. "I know its a cliche but every shots a good shot in OT and if turned out to be that way." Lundqvist and Jonathan Quick of the Kings once again lived up to their reputations, with some stellar stops on the night. New York led the hit count 51-50 with Chris Kreider accounting for nine alone. The Rangers turned the screws early in overtime, pressuring the Kings who were forced to call their time out five minutes in after an icing. Lundqvist had to deal with a nasty tip before Kreider hit Quick and the post. With Kings forward Jeff Carter off for goalie interference, penalty killer King shot wide on a glorious chance. Kreider then shot wide on a breakaway. Lundqvist stopped Gaborik early in the second OT. Quick then had to make two rapid-fire saves, one off Rick Nash. After losing the opener, Vigneault challenged his players to bring their A game and they responded. Unlike Wednesday, the Rangers raised their game when Los Angeles pushed back. But the Kings refused to lie down, clawing their way back from a 4-2 deficit with two goals in the third period. With New York leading 2-0 after the first, there were four goals in an eventful second period that saw both teams trade goals while scoring two apiece. Three of the goals came in a 3:36 stretch -- including two in 11 seconds. Trailing 4-2 after two periods, the Kings narrowed the gap at 1:58 of the third with King tipping in a Matt Greene shot from the blue-line. The puck banged off King as he jousted with McDonagh in front of a helpless Lundqvist. Asked if Kings goal was the result of goalie interference, Vigneault said: "Ask the NHL." Lundqvist just asked for consistency in calls. Los Angeles pulled even at 7:36 with Gaborik beating Lundqvist for his 13th of the playoffs after McDonagh fell on a clearing attempt. The first period has belonged to New York in the post-season. The third has been the Kings domain. The Rangers have outscored their opposition 25-11 in the first period these playoffs. The Kings have outscored opponents 29-16 in the third. McDonagh opened the scoring at 10:48 with a shot from the point after a Williams giveaway behind the goal. Dominic Moore retrieved the puck and McDonaghs shot went through traffic, deflecting off Stoll for his fourth goal of the playoffs. Zuccarello extended the lead at 18:46 with his fifth goal, racing into the Los Angeles zone after a Matt Greene turnover at the New York blue-line. The Kings -- chasing the speedy Rangers -- couldnt clear the puck and Zuccarello beat Kopitar to the puck at the corner of the goal, stuffing it in after McDonaghs shot hit him. New York outshot the Kings 10-9 in a physical first period that saw L.A. outhit the Rangers 18-16. McDonagh went to the dressing room with a goal, an assist and three hits. Brown, the victim of a McDonagh cross-check in the period, was also getting his hands dirty with four hits. Stoll pulled one back at 1:46 of the second period after a Brad Richards turnover in his own end. Williams ended up with the puck, sending a backhand pass to Stoll with Quick sliding out of the goal after stopping a weak shot from the point. Stoll fired the shot past defenceman Kevin Klein for his third of the playoffs. As in Game 1, Los Angeles came on in the second, winning battles and banging bodies. St. Louis blunted the Kings comeback with a power-play goal at 11:24 with Los Angeles penalized for too many men on the ice. The Los Angeles defence was slow to react to an attack and Derek Stepan slid the puck over to St. Louis for a one-timer from his favourite spot at the faceoff circle. It was his seventh of the playoffs and the 40th of his post-season career (he is the 12th active player to reach the milestone). Mitchell trimmed the lead to 3-2 with a power-play goal at 14:39 on a shot from the blue-line as King screened Lundqvist. But the Rangers responded 11 seconds later, upping their lead to 4-2. Off the ensuing faceoff, the puck ended up behind the L.A. net from a shoot-in. Quick went to leave it for Mitchell, who flubbed the clearance. Zuccarello got the puck out to Brassard, who snapped home a wrist shot with Quick all turned around. It was his sixth of the playoffs. The sequence marked the fastest two goals in the Cup final in 67 years. The record is two goals in 10 seconds, set in 1936 and 1947. John Moore returned from his two-game suspension to join Klein on the Rangers third defensive pairing. But the Kings opted not to use veteran defenceman Robyn Regehr, who has been out injured since Game 1 of the Anaheim series. Holland setup two goals, including the game winner, as the Toronto Marlies extended their win streak to four games with a 4-2 win over the Binghamton Senators in American Hockey League action Wednesday. It was Hollands first two assists since he was re-assigned to the Marlies by the Maple Leafs last Saturday. "Obviously with a month off there, not playing or practising was pretty tough," said Holland. "Getting back in the first game, timing was a little off, I felt a little better today, in the second one. "(The foot) was very infected and I was in the hospital for about four or five days in a row having an IV and antibiotics. (I was) on crutches for a couple days." Mike Duco scored the winner, giving the Marlies a 3-1 lead at 7:18 of the second by putting a rebound off a Holland shot past Nathan Lawson while crashing into the Senators goalie. "I knew (Duco) was driving the net, the goalie looked like he was cheating over a little bit to the short side, I didnt know if my shot was maybe going to beat him," said Holland of the play. "But I knew Duco was going to be there if he kicked out the rebound." Josh Leivo added an empty netter with 14 seconds remaining in the third. Jerry DAmigo and Kenny Ryan had the other goals for the Marlies (32-17-4). Matt Puempel and Mark Stone scored for the Senators (33-17-4). Drew MacIntyre made 34 saves for his 24th win of the season while Lawson made 26 saves in the loss. After Ryan opened the scoring late in the first, the two teams combined for four second-period goals. DAmigo gave Toronto a 2-0 lead 46 seconds in on a power play, beating Lawson blocker-side frrom the faceoff dot for his 15th of the season. Cheap Air Max 95 Mens. . DAmigo now has eight goals and three assists in nine games this month. The Senators got on the board 33 seconds later as Puempel one-timed a Stone feed past MacIntyre for his 20th of the season. After Duco gave the Marlies a 3-1 lead, Binghamton pulled to within one before the second was over as Stone tapped in a Puempel feed on a two-man advantage for his 13th of the season. "We took some penalties that were uncharacteristic of us," said Marlies head coach Steve Spott. "The No. 1 criteria or No. 1 goal on our board today was not to take penalties against this team and we did. We paid for it. We allowed them to stay around." Ryan opened the scoring with 14 seconds remaining in the first taking a feed from DAmigo and beating Lawson glove-side for his third of the season. Ryan now has a goal and three assists in two games. The second, and final meeting, between the two teams goes April 16 in Binghamton. Following the game, Spott had a lengthy meeting with the Maple Leafs brass, including General Manager, Dave Nonis. With Dave Bolland potentially nearing a return to the Leafs lineup, Spott is expecting bodies to fall to his club. "It depends, theyre going to have some roster spots that are going to have to open up," Spott said. "David Bolland seems to be coming back in the near future. Hopefully that will have some sort of an affect with the Marlies. Well have to see how that all plays out." Notes: Toronto goalie Christopher Gibson (back) and forward Sam Carrick (upper body) both received medical clearance and will be available to the team Saturday when the Marlies host the Hamilton Bulldogs. If Gibson returns, Garret Sparks will likely be reassigned to the ECHL. ' ' '
Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - The first of back-to-back meetings between the British Columbia Lions and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats finds the clubs clashing at BC Place on Friday night. Nike Air Max Uitverkoop . Catch the game on TSN starting with the pre-game show live NOW. After starting out the 2013 campaign with just one win in five chances, the Tiger-Cats appear to have turned the corner thanks to three straight victories, the latest coming against Winnipeg last weekend at home, 37-14. The triumph was the second in as many weeks for the Cats versus Winnipeg, and the third overall for the squad in the series just this season. Hamilton, now second in the East Division standings, trailing only Toronto, with an even 4-4 mark, jumped out to a 24-0 advantage midway through the second quarter and never looked back While the Tiger-Cats were generating a healthy 464 yards of offense, the defense was clamping down on the Blue Bombers and limiting the visitors to a mere 235 yards on 70 snaps. Part of the scoring burst in the first half for the Ticats involved Onrea Jones and quarterback Dan LeFevour hooking up for a trick play that resulted in a 29-yard TD reception. Starter Henry Burris converted 23-of-35 passes for 318 yards and a major as well, although he was intercepted twice and sacked two times along the way. C.J. Gable caught a touchdown pass and also ran the ball into the end zone from four yards out for Hamilton, while another unexpected major came courtesy of Dee Webb who returned an interception 34 yards for a score in the second frame. Kicker Luca Congi knocked through three of his four field goal chances and also reached 1,000 points for his career during the onslaught. As for the Lions, they figured to have the inside track on another win when they matched up against a bruised and battered Montreal club on the road on Aug. 22, but they hadnt planned on facing a backup quarterback who had nothing to lose. Without Anthony Calvillo at quarterback due to injury, the Alouettes appeared to be easy targets for a BC squad that was coming off back-to-back wins against Winnipeg and Calgary, but the Lions could not have imagined losing to a complete unknown in a 39-38 final that had Hollywood ending written all over it. British Columbia scored 12 unanswered points in the first quarter and was up 15-0 early in the second before Montreals Tanner Marsh, the backup to Josh Neiswander, began to make his move. Obviously, without much scouting available on Marsh, the Lions were at a disadvantage, yet still managed to intercept the youngster four times. However, Marsh was still allowed to throw for a whopping 329 yards on just 14 completions, shaking off three sacks as he tossed one TD and also heaved a late pass down deep into BC territory which set up the game-winning field goal at the gun. Travis Lulay, who figured to be the centerpiece of the meeting, tried to keep pace as he converted 15-of-28 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns, but he was also sacked five times by an aggressive Montreal defense. Kicker Paul McCallum, who helped keep one drive alive with a fake punt, made good on all five of his field goal attempts, while Tim Brown returned a missed field goal 123 yards for a score to help buoy the Lions. Defensively, two of the five total interceptions registered by BC went to Korey Banks, his first two of the season, giving him 37 for his career. Heading into the contest, the Lions had just four interceptions the entire campaign. Now third in the West Division standings, trailing both Saskatchewan and Calgary, the Lions are now tied for the most interceptions in the league and have the most return yards on those picks with 121. Unfortunately, Lulay has given many of those turnovers right back to the opposition with his eight thrown interceptions, tied for the most in the league with Edmontons Mike Reilly. Lulay is in the middle of the pack when it comes to efficiency rating (92.8), and he is 103 yards shy of 2,000 passing on the campaign. Further up the list for passing yards is Burris who is first among all CFL quarterbacks with his 2,454 yards on 65.2 percent completions. The signal- caller is tied for fourth in passing scores with 12, three each going to Greg Ellingson and Gable. Almost out of nowhere, Gable is second in the league in total touchdowns with seven. As well as Burris has played this season, this meeting will be a true test of his abilities as BC owns the toughest pass defense in the league after nine games, allowing just 1,710 total yards through the air. The squad has permitted opponents to complete a league-low 61.3 percent of pass attempts as well. In terms of the all-time series between the clubs, BC owns a 48-32-3 edge in games played during the regular season, stretching back to 1961. The Lions have taken two straight and three of the last five, including a 37-17 rout in the most recent contest played last October. The Lions won both meetings between the teams last season, posting a 39-36 triumph in Week 2 at home, and then making an even more pronounced statement towards the end of the campaign with a 37-17 victory on the road. What we do know is the Yankees still owe him $61 million from 2015 through 2017. I only mention this because the Blue Jays are in a similar dilemma with Jose Reyes. But not because hes an aging veteran whos under suspension, which of course, hes not. Jose Reyes is a model citizen with the Blue Jays, always upbeat and smiling. But he should still be in the prime of his career at age 30 (turning 31). Yet right now he is struggling. Hitting out of the lead-off spot, Reyes is batting only .188 with one homer and one stolen base. A hamstring injury knocked him out of action late in spring training and has cost him 16 of the 31 games the Jays have played. This coming off a 2013 season where he missed 69 games after suffering that serious ankle injury sliding into second base at Kansas City. Reyes put up respectable numbers when he returned, hitting .296 with 10 homers, 37 runs batted in and 15 stolen bases. But those are not the numbers of a star, which he is reputed to be and is paid to be. Reyes is making $16 million this season. After that his contract balloons to $22 million for each of the following three years, and then there is a club option for one more year at $22 million which has a $4 million buyout. Even if the Blue Jays take the buyout, they are on the hook for $86 million for the next four-plus years including this year. If the whole deal plays out the number is $104 million. In simple terms this commitment dwarfs what the Yankees owe to A-Rod and the Blue Jays arent the Yankees. Its way too early to assume Jose Reyes will never come close to being the player he once was. But remember his best four seasons came between the ages of 22 and 25 with the Mets. In the five years since, hes been plagued by leg injuries and has had just two decent seasons. In spring training, there was media-fuelled talk in New York that either the Yankees or the Mets should attempt to acquire Reyes. At the moment there doesnt seem to be the urgency for either team to go down that path. The Mets and Yankees have identical 16-14 records. The Yanks is good enough to have them in first place in the AL East, while the Mets are a close third in the NL East, a half-game back of Washington and one game behind division-leading Atlanta. The Yanks are still giving the bulk of their playing time at short to the soon-to-be-40 Derek Jeter, who is in the final year of his Hall of Fame career. The Mets are using the far less trumpeted combination of Ruben Tejada and Omar Quintanilla. Both teams would seem to have more pressing needs than a shortstop right now. The Yankees two most veteran arms, C.C. Sabathia and Hiroki Kuroda, are struggling and the Mets could use anothher power hitting outfielder. Air Max Shop Nederland. But even if they were in dire need of a shortstop, they would hardly be knocking down the Jays door now to get Reyes. Its sort of the like the chicken-egg thing right now. If Reyes was hitting and stealing bases, other teams might want him. But if that was the case, and he was helping the Jays stay in a division race, why would they even think of moving him? This could be the Jays most interesting storyline between now and the end of the season. The Blue Jays, who are 1-2 so far in interleague play, continue against the National League with a pair of two-game series against the Phillies starting Monday night at Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philly, and then moving to Rogers Centre for two starting Wednesday night. The two franchises will always be linked by that incredible 1993 World Series that was capped off by Joe Carters walk-off homer off Mitch Williams that gave the Jays their second straight Fall Classic victory. But its been quite the rollercoaster journey the Phils have been on since then. They have had nine losing seasons including seven in a row at one point. They earned one .500 season and 10 winning seasons - including nine in a row. They beat Tampa Bay in the 2008 World Series and then lost in 2009 to the Yankees, both with Charlie Manuel at the helm. Over that span they also set a single season franchise record with 102 victories in a season. Yet this same franchise in 2007 became the first in pro sports history to lose 10,000 games over its existence. Over this four-game set the Jays figure to see the Phils top three starters, in Cole Hamels (if hes over the flu), Cliff Lee and A.J. Burnett. Phils shortstop Jimmy Rollins only needs 31 more hits to break Hall of Famer Mike Schmidts all-time franchise mark of 2,234. Famous Firsts Part of the joy and intrigue of going to a ballgame is knowing you just might see something that has never happened before. Take Saturday at Cleveland, where Canadian-born journeyman catcher George Kottaras was called up by the Indians to fill in for former Jays catcher Yan Gomes who was gone on paternity leave. All Kottaras did was become the first player to homer in his first two at-bats with Cleveland. Then you have Dodgers second baseman Dee Gordon. On Saturday at Miami he went 5-for-6 in an 11-inning marathon 9-7 Dodgers victory. He also drove in two runs and stole three bases giving him a National League-leading 19 stolen bases. Gordon also became the first player in Dodgers history with five hits and three stolen bases in one game. Finally, you have the New York Mets pitchers. They set an all-time record from the start of a season by not recording a single hit in a streak which they continued through Sunday. Do you think Mets fans are in favour of the DH? ' ' '
