JACKSON, Miss. -- Grayson Murray and his caddie had a discussion before his final hole that centered on playing it safe or using his driver. It was a short conversation.Driver, man, Murray said as he recounted the conversation. Lets try to make birdie.Turned out to be another good decision in a day full of them. After a solid drive on the 416-yard par 4 and a nearly perfect wedge from 89 yards, the 23-year-old PGA Tour rookie made a short birdie putt for a 7-under 65 and a two-shot lead in the Sanderson Farms Championship.Murray started his day with a bogey at No. 10, but then made eight birdies to take a two-shot advantage over Greg Owen and Seamus Power. The leader was at 12-under 132.Owen, a 44-year-old Englishman who has never won a tournament on tour, has shot back-to-back 67s to put himself in contention. Its a good start -- Im happy, Owen said. Its nice to get out this year and get back playing and playing decent and holing some putts. But theres a long, long way to go.Power had a 69. Lucas Glover (69), Trey Mullinax (70), Graham DeLaet (69) and Brandon Hagy (68) were three strokes back.Kevin Streelman had a two-shot lead after shooting a 63 in the first round, but struggled to a 73 to fall four strokes behind Murray. Cody Gribble was one of the big movers, shooting a 63 to pull within four shots. But the story on Friday was about Murray, who is on the PGA Tour just a few years after a nomadic college career that included stops at four schools -- Wake Forest, East Carolina, UNC Greensboro and Arizona State. Now hes leading a tour event going into the weekend in just his third career tournament. We practice to get in this position, Murray said. We dont practice to make cuts, we practice to win golf tournaments. I know I have the game to win a golf tournament.Murray said he expects plenty of competition over the weekend with 13 players within four shots of the lead. Nearly ideal conditions at the Country Club of Jackson have led to plenty of birdies.Theres a lot of good players, theres a lot of birdies to be made on this course, Murray said. But theres also some bogeys if youre not in the fairways. So just keep it in the short grass, give myself as many chances as I have done on the first two days.-----Follow David Brandt on Twitter: www.twitter.com/davidbrandtAPLakers Jerseys Outlet .C. -- Charlotte Bobcats coach Steve Clifford said after all of these years in the NBA hes still amazed at some of the things LeBron James does. With Rodney Hood and George Hill sitting out on Thursday night because of injuries, Jazz coach Quin Snyder trotted out his 11th different starting lineup in 20 games.Something more disconcerting than an endless slew of injuries surfaced for Utah in a 111-110 loss to Miami on Thursday. The Jazz interior defense suffered a rare breakdown over 48 minutes.Utah (11-9) allowed 64 points in the paint, the most it has given up to any opponent this season. It ultimately negated a franchise-record 17 made 3-pointers for the Jazz and a season-high 32 points from forward Gordon Hayward.Snyder suggested his team was too soft and lackadaisical when it counted after allowing the Heat to do whatever they wanted around the basket. You can point to certain things but, by the time we woke up defensively, it was late and we had to expend a lot of energy, Snyder said. You put yourself in a tough position. We lacked physicality critically in the first half. With Hood and Hill both unlikely to play again when the Denver Nuggets return to Salt Lake City on Saturday, the Jazz need to solve this new defensive puzzle. Utah is definitely capable of reasserting itself on defense. The Jazz have held eight opponents under 90 points this season -- the most of any NBA team. The Nuggets are rowing a similar defensive boat at the moment. Denver could do nothing to contain Houstons offense in a 128-110 loss to the Rockets on Friday night.dddddddddddd. Seven different Houston players scored in double figures, led by James Harden with 20 points. The Rockets shot 49 percent from the field and had 26 assists on 45 baskets. Its been a recurring theme for the Nuggets. Denver (7-12) has held just four opponents under 100 points this season and has allowed 115.8 points per game over its last six games. It has lost four times in its last five contests.I dont even know what to say, Nuggets coach Michael Malone said. Its one thing to lose games, but when youre outworked on your home floor -- Miami did it, Houston did it -- I have no explanation.Utah is one of those teams who mined the Nuggets for tons of points over 48 minutes. The Jazz beat the Nuggets 108-83 just 10 days ago in Hills first game back after missing eight games with a sprained thumb. Hill and Hayward each finished with 22 points while Rudy Gobert added 19 points and 13 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season.Just like Utah, Denver is dealing with its own injury issues heading into Salt Lake City. Forward Nikola Jokic did not play against Houston on Friday. Jokic sat out with a sore wrist. He is currently day-to-day and there is no timetable for his return. Will Barton returned to the lineup against the Rockets on Friday after missing 12 of the last 15 games with an ankle injury.
