That high octane offense went 13-3 while generating 377 yards per game, has been all but dismantled. Of the skill players who remain Tyson Alualu Jersey , running back James Conner, wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster and tight end Vance McDonald accounted for 1,249 of the 6,201 yards generated during the season. The trio saw a major uptick last season while generating 3,506 yards, looming questions remain with the draft less than two weeks away. This leads to some enormous question marks that will impact the Steelers draft. Can Smith-Schuster keep evolving and be productive with additional coverage as the Steelers top wide receiver? Who will be the #2 wideout, second-year James Washington or newcomer, Donte Moncrief? Will Washington or Moncrief gel with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in 2019? Can Conner remain healthy for 16 games and break a thousand yards? How many games will McDonald miss in 2019? He has never played in all 16 games during his six-year career while missing 21 of a possible 72 games. I am worried about our offense and filling all that lost productivity in the past two seasons. A case can be made by fans that we need an infusion of talent on defense and I agree but not in the first round. The position that has the greatest need for an impact player for the 2019 season is at tight end. As I noted in earlier articles, inside linebacker and wide receiver do not have clear paths for playing time. As I pointed out McDonald Justin Hunter Jersey , just like most of the top tight ends in the NFL, misses games. I have no faith in backup tight end Xavier Grimble being able to be a reliable fill in for McDonald let alone see the substantial snap counts James participated in past years. Do I want a player on the field for 500 snaps who fails to wrap up the football, who carries the ball in the wrong hand, and tries to showcase his tough guy mentality all on the same play, while failing? Pass. I want a guy who is technically sound as a receiving tight end and the best blocking tight end in the 2019 draft. TJ Hockenson is that player. Is Hockenson a SPARQ athlete like fellow Iowa Hawkeyes Noah Fant? He is not. Fant was not asked to block in college which raises a red flag. Just because he was not asked to block in college does not mean he can’t. If he has blocking skills why did Hockenson shoulder such a load? NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks compare Hockenson to Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, which is a valid comparison. They are both big-bodied tight ends separated by only an inch and about 10 pounds. Both ran a 4.7 forty time at the combine and contribute on the field similarly. That is high praise for Hockenson to be compared to a player fourth on the NFL’s all-time reception list and 21 in receiving yards. With so much offense lost it will be hard for the Steelers to replace that with their current players. The 1,720 lost yardage from James and AB departing cannot be absorbed by players currently on the roster. A big chunk should and will but not all of it. Hockenson has the ability not only to open holes for Conners but also find holes in defensive secondaries like Heath Miller did for so many years in Pittsburgh. Hockenson being available at 20 is in doubt so it is up to general manager Kevin Colbert to move up and snag a true difference maker in 2019. Check out his highlight reel on You Tube. The Live Community mock draft ended, and it is time to see who the Steelers were able to draft in the latest mock draft."Over the past weekend the 2019 SB Nation Live Mock Draft finished the remainder of the draft, completing rounds 4-7. It is time to take a look at the previous picks before we jump into the final 4 rounds. Round 1 pick 20- Greedy Williams CB LSURound 2 pick 52- Deebo Samuel WR South CarolinaRound 3 pick 66- Taylor Rapp SS WashingtonRound 3 pick 83 - Blake Cashman ILB MinnesotaNow let’s dive head-first into the final three rounds of the draft Jon Bostic Jersey , and who the Pittsburgh Steelers were able to obtain with who was available...Round 4 pick 122 - Daylon Mack NT Texas A&MThere were a few surprises in Round 4, but I was happy to see Daylon Mack make it to the Steelres’ at 122. The Texas A&M Nose Tackle is coming off a break out year for the Aggies. There was a coaching change in 2018 and some citing that Jimbo Fisher got the best out of the big man. He may never become Casey Hampton, because that guy was special, but he possesses the same run stuffing traits. Nothing personal against Big Dan McCullers, but this guy could provide what he didn’t.There was a trade! I took the fifth round pick 141 that the Steelers received in the Antonio Brown trade and turned it into two picks in the fifth. I also gave up 192 and 207 to make the deal, that was the pick received in the Marcus Gilbert to Arizona deal. Round 5 pick 147 - Dax Raymond TE Utah With Jesse James off to Detroit, Pittsburgh needed to at least address the tight end position in the draft. Raymond is a work in progress in terms of blocking but is a better RAC guy compared to James. Very soft hands with a large catch radius, ability to get low and pull the ball off the ground. He needs better footwork in getting in and out of some routes. The one red flag is his age, 24. Round 5 pick 158 - Justice Hill RB Oklahoma StateJustice Hill will be looked at as a third down change of pace back. Will be great in space and not a liability in pass protection. He will need to improve Ryan Switzer Jersey , but so did James Conner. Has some wiggle and the term slippery has been attached. Not the greatest of hands, but that can be worked on but does have the intelligence and intelligence to slide into open spaces as a safety valve. Round 6 pick 175 - David Sills WR West VirginiaMany may complain here with this pick but with the loss of AB we have to account for double digit touchdowns. I’m on record as saying that we may need more help than what we currently have on the roster. On paper it may look fine but there are questions. Sills lackselite athleticism and speed but has an uncanny ability to make catches and make catches for scores. Has some drop issues but considering he is still new to the position, was a former QB, I give some lee way there. The production is undeniable in his last two years at WVU, 1800+ yards and 33 touchdowns. I figured worth a shot in round six. Round 7 pick 233 Jimmy Moreland CB JMURound 7 pick 244 Josiah Tauaefa LB UTSAAnother trade back from 219 to pick up a couple of extra picks What do you think of the Steelers’ predicted haul from the 2019 NFL Draft?
