THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Jeff Fisher thought Jared Goff handled his NFL debut splendidly. The Los Angeles Rams coach isnt so happy with his prized rookie quarterbacks teammates after another winnable game slipped away and left their playoff hopes in peril. One week after Goffs promotion, Fisher is considering more lineup changes for the Rams (4-6) before their trip to New Orleans on Sunday. The coach cited Los Angeles eight penalties for 70 yards as the biggest reason for a dispiriting 14-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Its those things that are hurting us, and those guys have to understand, Fisher said Monday. So there potentially may be some different guys playing this week.Although Aaron Donald and Alec Ogletree arent going to lose their jobs, Fisher mentioned both of his defensive captains by name for ill-advised penalties on Miamis two touchdown drives after the LA defense excelled on the first 54 minutes.Any lineup changes are much more likely to occur on offense, where errors also abounded.Left tackle Greg Robinson drew Fishers specific ire for his latest bad penalty in a career full of them: An illegal block far behind the play to negate an 11-yard scramble by Goff into Dolphins territory for a first down in the fourth quarter.Robinson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2014 draft, is the NFLs most-penalized player over the past two seasons with 28 flags. Were looking at everything right now, Fisher said. We need production. We need to minimize mistakes, and weve got some repeat mistake-makers, so thats still under discussion.Fisher might change his starters, but he said he wont change his coaching staff this season. He gave a vote of confidence to Rob Boras, his offensive coordinator and play-caller.I have not given any consideration to changing play-callers, Fisher said. I did that last year. I have confidence in Rob, and the offense has confidence in Rob. The offense knows that right now, theyre not doing what they should be doing.Fisher replaced offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti with Boras in St. Louis last December while the Rams were mired in 31st place in total offense. Los Angeles is back in 31st place after 10 games this season, averaging a mere 299.9 yards per game.Fisher sees no reason to blame Goff, who went 17 of 31 for 134 yards with no touchdowns and no turnovers. His longest completion went 21 yards, and the Rams didnt call many long passes to test the rookies big arm.I was impressed with what he did, Fisher said. Hes not going to say he was OK, because we lost, but I thought he managed things well. No delay of games. He was in complete control. ... We didnt take our shots down the field that, in retrospect, we probably needed to do, but he knew where to go with the football. I was proud of his first outing. We get a stop or intercept a pass, one of the two or three we had our hands on, to win the game, and were talking about Jared right now and nothing else.Just as Case Keenum was rarely the problem during the Rams recent four-game losing streak, Goff was far from the most glaring problem for the Rams. Fisher thought the No. 1 overall pick handled his first start with minimal jitters, as did Dolphins coach Adam Gase.I thought he did a pretty good job as far as what we were bringing at him, Gase said. We were trying to pressure him a little bit, give him some different looks, and he didnt really seem bothered by much of it.Game notes Fisher is still gathering information to make a decision about CB Troy Hill, who was inactive after getting arrested Saturday morning following a freeway crash. I spoke to him briefly today, Fisher said of Hill, who has started four games this season. Very disappointed in him. Disappointed in his choices. ... LB Josh Forrest is probably out for the season after injuring his knee Sunday, Fisher said. The rookie from Kentucky has been a solid special-teams contributor. LB Nic Grigsby is likely to be promoted from the practice squad to replace him for the final six games.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFLAuthentic Cowboys Jerseys . LOS ANGELES -- Brandon McCarthy couldnt find his best stuff. Thankfully for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the bullpen could. Again.Despite his struggles, McCarthy won his second straight start after a 14-month recovery from Tommy John surgery, and the Dodgers scored a disputed run to beat the San Diego Padres 4-3 on Saturday.I hadnt really had one yet, coming through the minor leagues, a day where it felt totally foreign, but today it did, McCarthy said.Yesterday, the ball felt perfect in my hand, he said. Today it felt like I was throwing a football.McCarthy (2-0) gave up three runs in five innings, including a first-inning, two-run homer by Yangervis Solarte. The right-hander retired 10 of the next 12 hitters, holding the Padres to a pair of walks. McCarthys win came six days after he threw five scoreless innings in his return from major surgery.Going five innings meant the Dodgers bullpen needed to come up big. Again. Los Angeles relievers have thrown 28 innings over the last six games.I know Ive asked a lot of them, but to a man, theyve responded, manager Dave Roberts said.I think were looking forward to getting to that break. With those guys, theyre prepared. Theyre taking care of themselves. Im trying to be mindful of their usage, but still trying to win baseball games.Dodgers reliever Adam Liberatore got two outs for his club-record 24th consecutive scoreless appearance. He broke the mark of 23 set by John Candelaria in 1991, but didnt know it at the time.Dave was coming out, and Yas (Dodger catcher Yasmani Grandal) came out and said, `Congrats. And I didnt know what he was talking about, he said. It seemed like a really weird thing to say in that situation. Im getting pulled and the guys saying, `Congrats.Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless ninth for his 26th save.It was 3-all in the fifth when Corey Seager scored from second base on a throwing error by shortstop Alexei Ramirez as he tried to complete a double play. With runners at first and second, Adrian Gonzalez hit a high bouncer to second baseman Ryan Schmipf, who threw to Ramirez for a forceout.Justin Turner slid toward the outfield side of second base -- which he grabbed as he went by -- and Ramirez made a wide throw that glanced off the glove of first baseman Wil Myers. The Padres challenged the call, but replay upheld the original ruling that Turners slide was legal.Youre running along the grass and then the next that you know, yooure 6 feet outside of the grass, so you clearly at some point in time changed his path, Padres manager Andy Green.dddddddddddd.Was it not close enough to call? I guess thats what they decided, he said.Solarte homered over the fence in right-center field to give the Padres a 2-0 lead in the first. Over his last 19 games, Solarte is hitting .380 (27 for 71) with seven doubles, four homers and 16 RBI.Luis Perdomo (3-4) took the loss.POMERANZ TO PETCOPadres starter Drew Pomeranz (8-7, 2.47) was picked on Saturday to the National Leagues All-Star team for the first time in his career.Hes earned everything hes gotten this year, Green said. Hes definitely rewarded the front office for the faith it had trading for him, and understanding the type of pitcher he could be, and is.MOST IN MAJORSTravis Jankowski easily stole second on the first pitch to Solarte in the first inning, his ninth theft in 16 games since June 21, the most in the majors during that stretch.TRAINERS ROOMPadres: C Derek Norris was back in the starting lineup after leaving Friday nights game with a right quad contusion suffered in a first-inning collision with Dodgers 2B Chase Utley. He regenerates quickly, Green said. He took a shot. Its a testament to how tough he is. We waited to post the starting lineup to see if he was capable of going.Dodgers: RHP Julio Urias will head to the minors to learn to pitch in relief, Roberts said before the game. The Dodgers want the 19-year-old to learn to pitch in a variety of situations before reaching a team-imposing innings cap. The Dodgers will make the move after the All-Star break, Roberts said. ... OF Andre Ethier (fractured tibia), out since spring training, is playing catch, taking swings in the batting cage. Hes more of a baseball player now, Roberts said. The Dodgers are hoping hell return in early August.NEXT UPPadres: LHP Christian Friedrich (4-4, 4.42) starts in Sundays finale before the All-Star Game.
