Survivor Kaden Smith Jersey , straight up picks for Week 6 NFL action We are entering the sixth week of the season, and we are starting to see some separation at the top of the standings. The Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs are looking like the favorites in each conference, while our 49ers are a dumpster fire for the time being. San Francisco heads to Green Bay to close out the week on Monday Night Football, but the week gets going with an NFC East affair on Thursday Night Football with the New York Giants hosting the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s time once again for our pick ‘em and Survivor pool contest options. We have the weekly prediction contest this season, and you can make those picks here. We also have a traditional “Pick ‘Em” contest. If you still want to join, the group name is Niners Nation, the group ID is 45734, and the password is go49ers. You’re pretty far behind, but feel free to join.I took my first strike in my double-elimination Survivor pool. I got greedy, and like Icarus I flew too close to the sun in choosing the 49ers to beat the Cardinals. I pondered the Carolina Panthers, but thought I was the smart one. Welp. I’m still alive, but it’s a disappointing strike. This week, I think I am going to play it relatively safe and take the Minnesota Vikings over the Arizona Cardinals. If I lose to the Cardinals in back-to-back weeks, it clearly just was not meant to be. I would take the Green Bay Packers over the 49ers, but I used the Packers two weeks ago when they thumped the Buffalo Bills.Tonight, Week 6 opens with the Giants hosting the Eagles. This is a tough call. The Giants stink, but the Eagles are proven to not be particularly good this season. The Eagles are a field goal favorite, according to sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. Are the Giants emotionally spent after that last second loss to Carolina? I’m thinking I’ll just take the points and be done with it. This is a tough matchup, so Giants +3 it is!Here are the rest of my straight-up picks. I was 11-4 last week, bringing my season record to 52-24-2. I’ll have my picks against the spread later this weekend.Eagles @ Giants: EaglesBuccaneers @ Falcons: FalconsSteelers @ Bengals: BengalsChargers @ Browns: ChargersSeahawks @ Raiders: SeahawksBears @ Dolphins: DolphinsCardinals @ Vikings: VikingsColts @ Jets: JetsPanthers @ Washington: WashingtonBills @ Texans: TexansRams @ Broncos: RamsJaguars @ Cowboys: CowboysRavens @ Titans: TitansChiefs @ Patriots: Patriots49ers @ Packers: Packers San Francisco’s options at No. 2 overall have been discussed ad nauseam. Here’s what the 49ers should do with pick No. 36.PDTShareTweetShareShareRound 2 pick should come down to two positions for 49ersChuck Cook-USA TODAY SportsThe 2019 NFL Draft is less than a week away. What the 49ers should do with the No. 2 pick has been discussed at length. What hasn’t gotten nearly as much press is what they should do next. The 49ers’ second-round pick, No. 36, is just four spots removed from the first round. There will be impact talent available and it’s imperative that general manager John Lynch lands a starter with this pick. Two of the strongest positions groups in this draft class are at wide receiver and safety. Both are also significant needs on the 49ers’ still rebuilding roster. If the team chooses to improve the defensive front with pick No. 2, as expected, they’ll be in prime position to land another starter on either side of the ball. Either receiver or safety should be Lynch’s target in the second round. The 49ers parted ways with veteran wideout Pierre Garçon in the offseason after two disappointing seasons, both ending on injured reserve. Rookie standout Dante Pettis is expected to take on a more significant role in 2019 while speedster Marquise Goodwin is best in a complementary role. It’s clear that Kyle Shanahan’s offense is in need of an additional perimeter threat. This year’s group of wideouts is without Top 10 talent, but it’s a stacked with late-first, early-second-round prospects. The 49ers have met with 14 receivers leading up the draft. the second-most of any NFL team. It’s unclear how these players stack up in the eyes of the team’s scouting department, but it seems like a foregone conclusion that the 49ers will target a receiver early. A.J. Brown, N’Keal Harry, Hakeem Butler and Deebo Samuel are just some of the names to visit Santa Clara that are expected to have their name called on Day 1 or early Day 2.Safety is another strong need for the 49ers. The team is currently relying on the upcoming competition between Adrian Colbert and Jimmie Ward, both of which ended last season on injured reserve. Before his ankle injury, Colbert struggled as the team’s free safety in 2018. Ward’s biggest flaw is availability, having played in only 31 of 51 games over five seasons. Neither has proven themselves as suitable options for one of the defense’s most critical positions.Fortunately for the 49ers, safety is another position that features promising prospects slated in the neighborhood of Picks 25-45. Darnell Savage, Juan Thornhill and Nasir Adderley are all prospects with the speed, range and ball skills to be an immediate impact player for the 49ers defense.San Francisco is essentially guaranteed a blue-chip player with pick No. 2, whether that’s the popular picks of Nick Bosa or Quinnen Williams. It’s in the second round that Lynch will earn his money. The receiver and safety classes are both ideally suited for the 49ers at pick No. 36. The need will align with the value. It’s up to the 49ers to find the player that’ll provide the roster with the boost it needs.
