CLEVELAND -- The Browns arent kicking kicker Cody Parkey to the side just yet.Parkey missed three field goals, including a 46-yarder on the final play of regulation Sunday, as Cleveland lost 30-24 to the Miami Dolphins in overtime. He was making his debut for the Browns after Patrick Murray injured his left knee in practice on Friday and was placed on injured reserve.Despite the inaccuracy, Browns coach Hue Jackson said the team does not have any immediate plans to replace Parkey.Thats a tough job, Jackson said Monday. I challenge any of us to come in here on a flight late Friday night, wake up and meet the coach for a second and then get on another flight and head to Miami and not know really a lot of your teammates, but some and walk out and kick in pregame and then go kick in a game where you attempt five of these field goals.Not two, not one, but five. Thats a lot of pressure. And then heres the game-winner sitting you right in the face. So I cant put that on him. Thats a tough situation.Parkey took full responsibility for the three misses. He didnt get a chance to practice with long snapper Charley Hughlett or holder Britton Colquitt until a few hours before kickoff.Jackson said its easy to fault Parkey, but there are numerous variables that go into a kick.Well, everybody says, thats the kickers job, Jackson said. It is his job, but normally a guy has a job, hes been around him employer a little bit, hes been around his teammates a little bit.It was tough circumstances. If he wouldve made it, wed be celebrating right now. But he didnt. And I think its unfair just to dump it all on him.Parkey was limited to just three games last season for Philadelphia because of a groin injury. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2014, when he scored 150 points and made 32 of 36 field-goal tries. He was released earlier this summer by the Eagles after Caleb Sturgis beat him out.On Sunday, Parkey missed a 41-yarder and converted field goals from 46 and 48 yards before hitting the left upright from 42 yards.After the Browns recovered a fumble in the final minute by Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, Parkey was in line to make the game-winner and become an instant star in Cleveland, but his attempt sailed wide left.Jackson denied a report the Browns signed Parkey instead of former Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould because he was cheaper to sign.We made an organizational decision that that was the right guy for us, Jackson said.We felt good about watching him kick on tape, we felt good about everything that he was doing. We felt he was the best of the group. I felt very comfortable in it. That was the sense we had in the locker room. Thats exactly the thought and were kind of happy to have it come, Carroll said Monday. Both teams are at the disadvantage of the short week, so we compete every step of the way to get on track as fast as we can to put together a great game plan. Theres no time. We dont get to sit on what happened one way or another, win or lose, and we have to turn it.Carroll and his staff were already beyond the 38-10 loss to Green Bay and immediately turning the focus to Thursdays game against Los Angeles. There was no other option, especially with whats at stake for the Seahawks.A win over the Rams will give Seattle its third NFC West title in the last four years and assure at least one home game during the playoffs. But the loss to Green Bay took away the Seahawks control of the No. 2 seed in the NFC and a potential first-round bye. Seattle now needs to win out and have Detroit lose at least once to earn a week off in the postseason.The bigger picture is secondary at this point. There were too many issues that surfaced against Green Bay that need to be addressed immediately, and none bigger than the awful performance by quarterback Russell Wilson and his five interceptions.The ball didnt go right for us. We overthrew a couple times when guys were open, when balls got knocked around they went right to them, Carroll said. They did a great job to make their picks and control the football game. When you turn the ball over like that, nothing feels right and you dont have a chance to get anything accomplished.Wilson wasnt completely at fault for all five of the interceptions, with two bouncing off receivers and into the arms oof Green Bay defenders.dddddddddddd But it was an unexpectedly bad game from a quarterback who has made a priority of being precise with the ball. The only other time Wilson has thrown more than three interceptions in a game also came against the Packers in the NFC championship game.The loss was also a rarity since Wilsons arrival in 2012. Seattles track record since Wilsons rookie season was that even if it lost, the game was going to be close.Sunday was the first time since midway through the 2011 season that Seattle lost by more than 10 points, falling to 2-4-1 on the road this season.Along with clinching a losing road record, the Seahawks have a trend of lagging offensive production away from home. In Seattles two road wins, the offense has been excellent. Wilson threw for 309 yards and three touchdowns at the New York Jets in Week 4. Against New England last month, Wilson was even better, passing for 348 yards and three TDs.In those other five games, Seattles offense has been awful. Three times they failed to score a touchdown. Twice, they scored just one offensive TD. All told, Seattle has 35 offensive points in 21 quarters on the road in its four losses and a tie.Its a statistic that means little now with Seattle facing two straight home games followed by a season finale at listless San Francisco. But it could have meaning when the playoffs arrive if the Seahawks are unable to move back up to the No. 2 seed in the NFC and potentially face two road games to get back to the Super Bowl.We have to work together to do this. That was immediately the message in the locker room right after the game, Carroll said.
