JERUSALEM Keanu Neal Hat , Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Lebanese government was responsible for the rocket attack targeting the northern Israeli border town of Kiryat Shmona on Sunday morning.
"They are not lifting a finger to prevent the armament of terrorist organizations," Netanyahu said at the weekly cabinet meeting on Sunday, accusing Beirut of providing a cover for Shiite militia Hezbollah's "double war crimes."
He said Hezbollah was committing two war crimes -- threaten Israeli civilians with thousands of rockets and missiles and seek shelter among Lebanon's civilians.
"This is a double war crime carried out under the cover of the Lebanese government," the Ha'aretz daily quoted Netanyahu as saying.
The remarks came shortly after four Katyusha rockets were fired from southern Lebanon, two of which exploded on a hill overlooking the city Takkarist McKinley Hat , while another two projectiles reportedly missed targets and exploded in Lebanese territory.
There were no injuries or damage caused by the attack, and the Israeli military's Home Front Command did not issue any special instructions to residents.
Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon responded to the attack by saying that Israel holds the Lebanese government accountable.
"We will not tolerate fire from Lebanese territory and will not allow anyone to harm the lives of Israelis. We see the Lebanese government and the Lebanese military as responsible for the shooting this morning, and we will not allow further incidents of this kind," Ya'alon said in a statement
The Israel Defense Forces responded with "massive artillery fire" toward the site from which the rockets were launched , the defense chief said Alex Mack Hat , warning that Israel will employ "much more force" if necessary.
"I do not recommend anyone test our tolerance and our determination to safeguard the security of Israel's citizens," he said.
