KANDAHAR， Afghanistan， Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- A police officer was killed and three others injured in a suicide bomb attack in Kandahar city， capital of Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar on Saturday， the provincial government said.


"One terrorist detonated a car bomb next to a police van at around 10:30 a.m. local time (0600 GMT). The blast caused one police officer killed and three others injured，" it said in a statement.


The attacker was also killed by the blast which occurred in Tiri Hada of the city， 450 km south of the Afghan capital of Kabul.


The security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures and the injured were shifted to a hospital.


Among the injured was Hajji Farid， commander of Police Station No. 9 of Kandahar city， according to a provincial security source.


"Hajji Farid was the likely target of the attack. His car was running on the road when the explosion occurred. He has escaped several Taliban-link attacks in the past years. Fortunately， he received no life-threatening wounds，" the source told Xinhua anonymously.


No group has claimed responsibility yet for the incident， but the Taliban insurgent group routinely claims responsibility for such attacks.


The Taliban militants have been on the rampage since April when they launched their annual offensive in different places in Afghanistan， killing and injuring hundreds.


Kandahar province， the birthplace of Taliban， has been the scene of sporadic clashes between Taliban and security forces over the past months.

The "Gelato Festival" kicked off at the capital's large multi-function music complex on Thursday, as a four-day stopover of a traveling event originated on May 1 from Florence and now roving around Italy and Europe until mid-summer.


It was a competition among professionals, of course, but most of all an event intended to convey history Black Sidney Jones Jersey , passion, and culture associated with an ever-favored "made in Italy" excellence.


"The flavor I invented for this year's competition is called 'Caruso'," ice cream maker Gampiero Burgio from the small town of Lastra a Signa at the outskirts of Florence told Xinhua.


The artisan proudly explained his desire to create something good and original that could also well represent his hometown.


"Caruso is made from a yogurt cream base, with lemon and its peel, and a caramel flavoured with saffron Black Derek Barnett Jersey ," Burgio said. "I chose it so because Lastra a Signa is famous for its production of saffron."


A similar reason was behind the name, picked up in honor of the famous Italian tenor Enrico Caruso who spent part of his life at Villa Bellosguardo Caruso, located in the small town.


"Villa Caruso is our best touristic attraction, and it does define Lastra a Signa's identity as well," the artisan pointed out.


Outside a large windowed caravan where Burgio and other colleagues were working Black Dallas Goedert Jersey , which is believed to be the world's biggest mobile gelato laboratory ever built, people followed eagerly the various phases of the ice-cream production before starting their tour.


"I am trying the flavor with buffalo milk, candied orange and almonds," Eleonora De Pascale from Rome told Xinhua.

Encouraging people to be curious about the new trends in artisan gelato was a primary goal of the festival, which was created in 2010 in Florence, where tradition says the first gelato was invented by Bernardo Buontalenti for the aristocratic Medici family in 1559.


So far the event has been met with increasing responses, according to organizers.


"Last year we had 120 ice cream makers taking part in the various competitions, with half a million visitors in Florence and an average of 200 Black Brian Dawkins Jersey ,000 visitors in the other three Italian cities we touched," Raffaella Galamini from the festival team told Xinhua.

During each stop, visitors can explore what new flavors have been invented for them and have their own say in the competition.

"The popular presence at the Festival and the visitors' response to the competing flavors are crucial for artisans, also in terms of marketing," Festival technical director Enrico Benedetti explained to Xinhua.


Artisan ice cream makers need to develop their ways of promoting themselves among domestic and international consumers, in order to compete with bigger industrial producers, Benedetti underlined.

"My partner Catherine is the very gelato-lover among us," Jeff from Canada said. "We are visiting my brother who lives in Rome, and we came at the Auditorium specifically for this event."


The couple said they did appreciate the inventive shown by Italian artisans and their efforts to offer ever-new flavors and combinations.


To some competitors, to make people love gelato would mean to make them love Italy.
