LUSAKA, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- A former Zambian international soccer player was on Monday stabbed to death by unknown people after a drinking spree in one of the slums of Lusaka, the Zambian capital, the Times of Zambia reported on Wednesday.


Chiwanki Lyainga Vladislav Namestnikov Youth Jersey , who was a regular call-up to the national soccer team between 2008 and 2009, died on Monday night after unknown people stabbed him at a drinking place following a fight.


Zambia Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga confirmed the death of the 30-year-old player, who was playing for local supper division side Red Arrows and that one suspect has since been arrested.


An official from his club also confirmed the death of the player and expressed sadness over his demise.


"It's a great loss because we hoped he would contribute towards Arrows' attaining success this season as he was an experienced player who once played for us but had gone on loan before we recalled him," Katavya Banda, the club's chairperson was quoted as saying by the paper.
