This section has a lot of Bret Hart in it as we focus on the TWO times he was screwed at the event, while we also remember the rise of The Undertaker... The Montreal Screwjob - 1997Survivor Series will be held in Canada for only the second time this weekend - and the Toronto event will have to go some to be as memorable as the last time the show headed to The Great White North. Two words: Montreal Screwjob. McMahon messing with Bret Hart remains one of the most talked-about incidents in WWE history and led to Hart distancing himself from the company for almost 10 years. A dejected Hart walks away from the ring McMahon called for referee Earl Hebner to ring the bell with then-WWE Champion Hart caught in his own move, the Sharpshooter, by challenger Michaels, despite the fact Hart had yet to tap out. The seething dethroned champion destroyed camera equipment, spat in McMahons face and headed for WWEs rival organisation WCW, where he won two world titles.Hart screwed by Hart - 1994 Hart lost the WWE Title to Bob Backlund in 1994 The Montreal Screwjob was not the first time Hart had been sucker-punched at Survivor Series - his own brother, Owen Hart, did it to him three years earlier. Bret was defending the WWE Title against the veteran Bob Backlund in a submission match, with The British Bulldog in Brets corner and Owen in Backlunds. Owen clotheslined Bret mid-match and then, with Backlund having locked in the crossface chickenwing, begged his parents to throw in Brets towel. Legendary wrestling trainer Stu refused but Helen did not, ending Brets agony but handing Backlund the belt. The Rocks in-ring debut - 1996 Rock - and his dodgy haircut - starred in 1996 Dwayne The Rock Johnson would probably wince if he saw the haircut he wore for his first WWE match - in fact, he did! The Peoples Champion was less than complimentary about his do while assessing his WWE bow on YouTube recently, comparing his cut to a Chia Pet. The Rock - or Rocky Maivia, as he was then known - made an impact on November 17, 1996, though, eliminating Crush and Goldust en route to becoming the sole survivor of a traditional elimination tag-team bout. A successful WWE career followed, albeit with a change of name - and hairstyle!Rise of The Undertaker - 1990 The Undertaker wrestles with Dusty Rhodes on his WWE debut The Phenom was also born at Survivor Series, debuting as the mystery partner of Ted DiBiase, Honky Tonk Man and Greg Valentine. Unlike The Rock, The Undertaker did not win the match for his team - he was countedout after chasing after opponent Dusty Rhodes - but did lay out Koko B.Ware with a Tombstone Piledriver, a move that quickly became his trademark, and Rhodes with a double axe-handle. Taker outdid himself a year later, though, defeating Hulk Hogan, albeit with the help of Ric Flair and a steel chair, to claim the first of his seven world titles in WWE.The Rock and Vince McMahon join forces - 1998 The Great One landed the WWE Title in 1998 The 1998 edition of Survivor Series is the only one not to feature a traditional elimination match, with the pay-per-view instead focusing on the Deadly Games tournament for the vacant WWE Title. The Rock triumphed to earn his first reign as world champion - but ventured to the dark side in order to prevail. The Great One seemed at a distinct disadvantage when he met the Vince McMahon-supported Mankind in the final, but a shock twist saw McMahon call for the referee to the ring the bell before Mankind tapped out to the Sharpshooter, reminiscent of the Screwjob a year earlier.
