Although Mike Pouncey is thrilled to start work with the Los Angeles Chargers Saquon Barkley Jersey Youth , the center still has a few bittersweet thoughts about how his last job ended.
Pouncey joined Philip Rivers for the start of the offseason workout program Monday, exactly four weeks after he agreed to a two-year contract with the Chargers following his release by the Miami Dolphins.
Los Angeles was able to sign the three-time Pro Bowl center only because Pouncey had been abruptly dropped by the Dolphins, who apparently couldn't make a deal on a restructuring of his contract.
Although Pouncey said he's excited about a fresh start with a team that could get him to the playoffs for the first time, the manner in which the Dolphins dropped him still stings.
"I understand it happens," Pouncey said. "It was just the way it happened. I was there for seven years, and for them to not bring me in, sit me down and let me know what was going on, especially the fact that me and my brother (Maurkice) worked out there every single day this offseason, sat down and met with the coaches every single day 鈥?it just didn't sit well with me. Guys come in and get cut all the time, but I was there for seven years. They could have at least brought me in, instead of texting my agent and ignoring my phone calls and texts all day."
Pouncey was a captain with the Dolphins, and he had spent his entire seven-year NFL career with the franchise. He also won a national title at the University of Florida after going to high school in central Lakeland, Florida.
"I love that city Ravens Robert Griffin III Jersey ," Pouncey said of Miami. "I was big in the community there. I was there my whole career. I'm a guy that doesn't need much fuel to add to the fire, but when you do stuff like that and add fuel to the fire, it just makes you want to prove everybody wrong. So I'm excited for it."
Pouncey played in all 16 games last season for the Dolphins after struggling with injuries in previous campaigns. Miami still moved on without him, instead choosing $7 million in salary cap savings.
"When my agent called me, it was kind of a shock I was getting released," Pouncey said. "But when he called me and listed all the different teams that were interested in me, the Chargers were my first choice."
The hard-hitting, versatile lineman should be an immediate upgrade for the Chargers, who went 9-7 while starting Spencer Pulley at center last season. Pouncey's run-blocking proficiency is expected to boost Los Angeles' rushing attack, which was only 26th in the league last season even while the prolific Chargers were fourth in total yards.
Pouncey is studying the Chargers' offense during these early weeks of preparation, determined to learn the entire scheme quickly. He's also excited to get to know Forrest Lamp and Dan Feeney, the two second-year pros likely to line up alongside him as the Chargers' guards.
As for Rivers, they'll work on their snap technique in due time. There are plenty of other things to learn Authentic Jessie Bates III Jersey , like film room etiquette.
"I was actually sitting in his seat, and he got me up and moved me out of it," Pouncey said with a laugh. "He's a good dude."
And while injuries have slowed his career at times, Pouncey is completely healthy despite playing every game last season.
"I'm going to make it through all 16 this year, no matter what," Pouncey said. "I don't care what it takes. I'm going to make it through all 16 and just go from there. It's a mindset thing for me. I proved it to myself last year that I can do it, and I'm going to do it again."
OAKLAND, Calif. — The San Diego Padres will attempt to cool down Jed Lowrie and the Oakland Athletics with a pitcher being promoted from the minor leagues when the clubs complete a two-game interleague series Wednesday afternoon.
Right-hander Luis Perdomo (1-2, 8.36 ERA), who has pitched well at Triple-A El Paso after a disastrous April for the Padres, is expected to be added to the 25-man major-league roster in time to duel A’s left-hander Sean Manaea (8-6, 3.38).
Oakland improved to 3-0 in its head-to-head meetings with San Diego this season with a come-from-behind, 6-2 victory Tuesday night in the series opener.
Lowrie had the big blow of the game Authentic Pernell McPhee Jersey , a three-run double as part of a five-run sixth inning that allowed the A’s to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 5-2 lead.
The big hit came in Lowrie’s return to his natural position, second base, after he had made 14 starts at third base while Matt Chapman was out with a hand injury.
Chapman was reinstated from the disabled list Tuesday and went 0-for-3.
A’s manager Bob Melvin pushed Lowrie for the American League All-Star team even before Tuesday’s heroics, hoping his time at third base caught the eye of those who will be selecting the club’s reserves.
“In those games, you never know where they go, and versatility could play a part,” Melvin said. “So I think the fact he played so well at third base might even increase his chances to make the All-Star team.”
Lowrie is tied for third in the American League in RBIs with 59 and tied for sixth in doubles with 25.
He had three hits, including two home runs, and four RBIs when the A’s swept a pair from the Padres in San Diego last month.
The A’s have been on a roll since, winning 13 of their last 16 games to improve to a season-best-tying eight games over .500 (47-39).
Tuesday’s victory raised their interleague record to 6-2 this season.
Perdomo has faced neither Lowrie nor the A’s in his three-year career.
An eight-game winner in 2017, he began the season in the majors, but couldn’t get into the fifth inning in three of his four April starts before being sent to Triple A.
The 25-year-old seemed to regain his form there, going 6-2 with a 3.10 ERA in 11 starts Dolphins Elite Jerseys , earning another shot at the bigs.
Perdomo has pitched in nine interleague games (eight starts) and compiled a 4-2 record and 5.63 ERA.
Manaea, meanwhile, is coming off a brilliant June at the big-league level, going 3-0 with a 2.84 ERA in five starts.
He won each of his last three starts to finish the month as one of four American Leaguers to go 3-0, joining Toronto’s J.A. Happ, Baltimore’s Dylan Bundy and Cleveland’s Shane Bieber.
Manaea has never faced the Padres, but does have nine starts of interleague experience, having gone 2-5 with a 4.47 ERA. .
