RIO DE JANEIRO -- Inbee Park is well aware of the expectations women golfers face in her homeland. There are four players from South Korea in the womens Olympic Golf Tournament, and Park could only chuckle when it was mentioned to her that some believe they should sweep the podium. The goal is ludicrous, even if it is not out of the question. But then Park, 28, has faced that type of pressure from the time her inspiration, Se Ri Pak, won the 1998 U.S. Womens Open and set off a firestorm of golf interest back home.Pak, who is serving as the team leader this week at the Olympic Golf Course for the womens players, was notoriously driven to excellence by her father, who among other things, would take her camping in a cemetery, then leave her alone in the dark in order to forge mental toughness and bravery.Park, who shot an opening-round 66 on Wednesday to trail first-round leader Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand by a stroke, had a golf club in her hands the day after Pak won that U.S. Open at Blackwolf Run. Ten years later, Park was winning the tournament herself, and now after 17 victories -- including seven major championships -- there are rumblings that she is ready to retire. When she played the KPMG PGA Championship in June, she qualified for the LPGA Hall of Fame.I really dont know yet, said Park, who has been dealing with a lingering thumb injury for all of 2016. Id like to have a family soon, and thats probably my priority maybe the next few years. But I really dont know whats going to happen if I have a baby or after I have a family, whether Im going to come back. Im just in between how to play the rest of my career.Park got married in October 2014 and could be excused if she is over the grind of competitive golf and expectations. She has a home in Las Vegas but spends a good amount of time in her homeland as well, two weeks ago competing in a Korean event that was her first competition since early June. Park missed the cut there as well as at the KPMG PGA, and it is a testament to how much the Olympics mean to her that she decided to skip two majors as well.So her score Wednesday was a bit of a surprise, the first time shes shot under par since April. Park had six birdies and no bogeys and made it look easy, despite missing six birdie putts from inside 10 feet.Obviously I havent really performed well, so I wasnt expecting much from myself, although I prepared very, very hard for this week, Park said. I practiced hard and gave it all Ive got. My only goal was just to play like I did in the practice rounds and I felt pretty good coming into this week. My injury felt pretty good and ball striking to putting, everything, felt like I was quite ready.Im happy to see the results today. Its a good confidence boost.Still, it was good enough to have her just a shot off the lead.Yeah, that girls good, said American Gerina Piller, who played with Park and shot 69. She makes everything she looks at. Im going to have to go ask her for a putting lesson after that. Shes pretty impressive. Shes kind of plain vanilla, she gets it done. Shes a great player.Park has slipped to fifth in the world due to her inactivity, but the South Koreans are so strong that the 10th-ranked player in the world, Ha-Na Jang, didnt qualify for the Olympics. There are nine South Koreans ranked in the top 20.Sei Young Kim, another South Korean, is tied for second after Round 1 in Rio.Park has been eyeing this moment for a long time. She was already an established pro when golf was voted back into the Olympics in 2009. She set her sights on being here then, and despite her injury woes this year, managed to qualify as the top South Korean. But she hasnt committed to anything beyond this week, including next months Evian Championship, the LPGAs fifth major.Perhaps it is because she wants to see how her thumb is feeling. Or maybe she has plans to walk away. For now, however, she is all in.I think that this could be really the highlight of my career, Park said. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity. Obviously we have five major tournaments a year. Ive played and Ive won a lot of the major championships, and obviously the Olympic Games, you get to only do it once every four years and golf in 112 years. So being able to stand here representing South Korea in my golfing career is something very special and meant to be. So very happy to be here. Its a huge honor and, like I said, could be the highlight of my career. Wholesale Brooklyn Nets Jerseys . EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Miles Bridges missed a free throw, got to the loose ball, dribbled through the lane and leaped to make a backboard-shaking dunk that got Magic Johnson out of his seat.Bridges scored 21 of his 24 points in the first half, grabbed 11 rebounds and had six assists in his home debut for No. 13 Michigan State in an 100-53 win over Mississippi Valley State on Friday night. That first-half performance was as good as any as Ive seen here in a long time, Spartans coach Tom Izzo said.Bridges , a 6-foot-7 freshman, put on quite a show that the fans loved at the Breslin Center, including a former Michigan State great and Hall of Famer. He made an array of shots, including a jump hook and two 3-pointers.Johnson popped out of his seat in a suite and spread his arms wide while showing an ear-to-ear smile when the left-handed freshman soared and slammed with his off hand. That was amazing, Johnson said in a halftime interview with The Associated Press. He is a guy, not only will he thrill Michigan State fans and basketball fans around the country, but the next level, hell be a great player.Bridges was awed by meeting Johnson for the first time and getting praise from him during a brief postgame chat. For him to be that excited about the way I played, for a legend to say that, that means a lot, he said.Bridges helped the Spartans (1-2) get a confidence-boosting win after getting routed by No. 2 Kentucky and losing to No. 10 Arizona by two points, but Izzo kept the rout in perspective. We took a step in the first direction, Izzo said. We did not conquer Rome or anything.Nick Ward, one of Michigan States four highly touted freshmen, had 18 points on 8-of-8 shooting and eight rebounds.Reserve Ronald Strother had 12 points and Amos Given scored 10 for the Delta Devils (0-4) who could not slow down Bridges until he decided to set up teammates for more shots in the second half.He actually played about tthree years older than what he actually is because he smelled that fear and went into attack mode, MVSU coach Andre Payne said.dddddddddddd.BIG PICTUREMVSU: The overmatched Delta Devils can learn from and build off of the solid start they had against the Spartans, who were leading just 16-14 midway through the first half. With about 7 minutes to go in the first half, they decided to do it their way instead of following the game plan, Payne said. On the road against a high-major team like Michigan State, they make you play. The Spartans closed the first half with 32-9 run and scored 84 points in the last 9:20 of the game.Michigan State: Eron Harris and Matt McQuaid have to play like they did against MVSU for the Spartans to have a lot of success this season because they cant rely on just freshmen. Harris had 19 points and McQuaid scored 15. Both were 5 of 8 on 3-pointers.Eron and Quaido (McQuaid) were in a slump, Bridges said. My job was to get them going. Thats where this game could be important.POLL IMPLICATIONSThe Spartans might make voters pause before dropping them down too much following a 19-point loss and a 47-point win with one game left before the next poll.CAUSE FOR CONCERNMichigan State freshman Joshua Langford was limited to three points in 12 minutes, playing through hamstring ailment in his left leg.Josh is dragging that leg, Izzo said. Thats a problem right now.UP NEXTMVSU: The Delta Devils play Massachusetts-Lowell on Tuesday in Virginia.Michigan State: The Spartans host Florida Gulf Coast, which won 21 games last season and played in the NCAA tournament, on Sunday night before going to the Bahamas, where they will open with St. Johns and may face No. 12 Louisville.---More AP college basketball: www.collegebasketball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25Stitched NFL JerseysNFL Jerseys OutletDisocunt Football JerseysChina JerseysWholesale JerseysWhite NFL Jerseys CheapChina NFL Jerseys White ' ' '
