se of you who were hoping to see Mike Trout in this series http://www.athleticsfanproshop.com/authentic-khris-davis-jersey , it’s not going to happen:Unfortunate, as the Angels don’t come to Wrigley often in the current schedule configuration, but injuries happen. From that article link, it doesn’t seem as if Trout will miss too much time.Notes:Cole Hamels’ eight-inning, one-run performance Friday lowered his Wrigley Field ERA to 1.606 in 13 career starts there. That’s now the lowest of anyone in MLB history, surpassing Sal Maglie, whose career ERA at Wrigley was 1.61 in 18 appearances (13 starts). The Cubs are 2-2 in interleague play so far this year. Since the start of 2015, the Cubs are 52-32 (.619) in interleague play, the top mark among all N.L. clubs and third in the majors behind Boston (60-23/.723) and Houston (55-25/.688). He’s also issued more walks than usual, four in those 8?innings, for a ridiculously high 2.640 WHIP.That’s simply got to change. Hendricks has had lower velocity than usual so far this year, and that’s fairly normal for him. He’s also had trouble in the first inning again, as he did last year: 9.00 ERA in the first inning Blake Treinen Jersey , 3.82 in all other innings (small sample size, of course). Here’s an article that goes into detail on what Kyle is trying to do to eliminate those first-inning issues:Hope it works. Kyle has never faced the Angels, and current Angels are hitting .190 (11-for-58) against him. I thought Chris Stratton looked familiar, then I realized he’d been with the Giants until... two days before Opening Day, when the Angels traded for him. He’s made two starts for LAA this year and not finished the fifth inning in either of them.Last year, he started against the Cubs May 26 at Wrigley Field and allowed three runs in five innings, two of them on homers by Kyle Schwarber and Javier Baez. PITTSBURGH (AP) — Matt Carpenter homered in two straight games entering Sunday. By contrast, Jack Flaherty had allowed at least one home run in each of his previous three starts.Carpenter kept his streak going while Flaherty brought his to an end to lift the St. Louis Cardinals to a 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.Flaherty (5-6) allowed three hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in six innings. It marked the first time he completed six innings since July 3, when he surrendered four runs in six against the Arizona Diamondbacks.Carpenter hit a solo home run in the fifth inning — his career-high 29th of the season, tying him with Colorado’s Nolan Arenado for the NL lead — and Jedd Gyorko singled to drive in a run later that inning to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.“(Leading the National League in home runs) is definitely not something I’ve ever really thought about,” Carpenter said. “It’s just a crazy stretch. There’s not much thought behind it other than I’m just trying to hit the ball hard. I’m really not trying to hit home runs. It just happens.”St. Louis took the final two games of the three-game series to move past Pittsburgh into third place alone in the NL Central.“Just good baseball,” interim Cardinals manager Mike Shildt said. “It started on the mound. Jack was really, really tough through six innings. Offense competed well. … Some tough at bats, good at bats, and good pitching all the way through.”Bud Norris retired the side in order with two strikeouts in the ninth for his 21st save.Flaherty recovered after giving up four runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings of a 6-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies in his last start. He got out of trouble twice on Sunday, first when the Pirates had runners on second and third with one out. Corey Dickerson struck out and Starling Marte grounded out to end the third inning. With runners on first and third two innings later, Flaherty forced Jordan Luplow into an inning-ending double play.“That was more where I kind of wanted to be at,” Flaherty said. “It was nice to make adjustments from the last time out, the last few times out, just to try to get ahead. Once it was get ahead, it was stay ahead.”Carpenter’s home run to right with one out in the fifth ended Trevor Williams‘ streak of 21½ innings without allowing a run. That stretched back to July 6, when Williams (9-8) gave up three runs in the third inning of a 17-5 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.“At that point of the game http://www.athleticsfanproshop.com/authentic-khris-davis-jersey , you are upset they are up 1-0. That’s what I was worried about,” Williams said. “Knowing how good Flaherty was throwing and how well he was executing his pitches, it was tough. It’s unfortunate that that one blink cost the game today, but that’s kind of how baseball is right now.”After the homer, Williams surrendered consecutive singles to Yadier Molina and Jose Martinez before Gyorko scored Molina with a single to left. Williams allowed those two runs on nine hits with three strikeouts in five innings.Adam Frazier hit a home run off reliever Chasen Shreve to make it 2-1 in the seventh.“Now we go on the road and it’s (against) good teams,” Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. “I just love the fact that we are in the hunt. Time to go. We would have loved to won more games here. We did not. Now, it’s time to go put a better package together on the road.”ROSTER MOVESCardinals: RHP Tyson Ross was claimed off waivers from the San Diego Padres and will join St. Louis in Miami. In his last two starts, Musgrove has allowed three combined runs on 10 hits in 14 innings.

Played in 109 games. Most Worrisome Fact: Can he continue to avoid the injury bug? .250 batting average and a drop off in production in the last part of the season.Alias(es): Ty Steve, Bat Flip, The Mountain of KennesawTyler Stephenson was the 11th overall pick by the Reds in the 2015 draft. He was lauded for his athleticism and power. While being a high school catcher he was considered to be a rather safe pick for multiple reasons. Scouts believed he had all the skills to stick behind the plate and for him to be able to hit against more advanced pitching. Not just hit but hit for serious power. Injury issues have shorted most of his early seasons but in 2018 he found himself healthy for probably the first time for an entire professional season. All he did is show why the Reds drafted him #11 overall and has bumped up the prospect lists as a result.Stephenson hit .250/.338/.392, and he has the potential to hit for even more power. What scouts like about Stephenson is his ability to control the strike zone even though he’ll probably never be a great contact hitter, and he’s shown that ability the past two seasons. He is 6’4 and gives off a bit of a Matt Wieters vibe due to body type which will probably cause him some contact and strikeout issues. Stephenson has a cannon of an arm and has been growing quite well behind the dish. There’s been zero talk of moving him away from the catcher position, and he should start the season at AA. A reasonable timeline is for to be getting a shot as a starting catcher in 2020/2021.Shed Long, 23, 2BHighest 2018 Level: AA (Pensacola)Eye-Poppingest Fact: 57 walks against 123 strikeouts in 522 plate appearances. .261/.353/.412 line. Most Worrisome Fact: Can he stick at 2B? He was a bit streaky during the season with a slight drop in powerAlias(es): Shed My Pants, Tool Shed, Shedric Von Long In The DrawersBB-Ref PageShed Long has been a guy that’s been hanging around for a while, and it’s funny because he’s the oldest guy on the list so far. He was drafted in the 12th round of the 2013 draft as a catcher. The catcher thing didn’t work out, obviously, but he’s athletic enough to play 2B. Ever since becoming a pro Shed has shown the ability to get on base while providing some very nice pop from a middle infielder position. He’s also good for 15-25 steals a year it seems. The one weakness that has always followed Long was if he has the glove to stick at 2B because otherwise he’d probably have to become a corner outfielder. His bat doesn’t play as well there.Long had a relatively strong 2018 even if it was sort of underwhelming based on previous seasons. He also represented the Reds in the Arizona Fall League where he had a .644 OPS because he showed pretty much no power but had a OBP of .333. I’m also for some reason thinking that Shed had missed a small amount of time with an injury? Possibly a wrist injury? I can’t bring myself to do the research on it. Either way, Shed Long is a pretty dang good prospect to have kicking around in the Reds system at this point, and for a lot of teams he’d be in their top five. I’d expect him to start in AAA.Jose Siri, 23 Matt Moore Jersey , OFHighest 2018 Level: AA (Pensacola)Eye-Poppingest Fact: .245 ISO and a 8.3% walk rate in 283 AA at bats. He’s the best CF in the entire Cincinnati Reds system. Most Worrisome Fact: 32.2% K rate in AA.Alias(es): No Way Jose, R U Sirious?, Maple SiriupBB-Ref PageSomeone asked for Jose Siri in the comments, and while I don’t think he should really be this high, I’ll abide. I also don’t care that much. Siri is probably the most volatile prospect in the Reds system. He’s arguably a Top 10 prospect, but there are also damn good arguments that he’s not a Top 20 prospect. It all depends on your feel and how you value these players in rankings. The one thing that Siri apologists can argue is that he has freakish potential. He’s a true five tool player and the best defensive outfielder (maybe outside of Mike Siani) in the entire system. With everything he can do on defense there are real good arguments he’s gold glove caliber and potentially better than Billy Hamilton was. As with the argument for Billy, can Siri hit Major League pitching? The answer? I don’t know. Can he? He’s gonna have to show a bunch more. Siri struggles mightily with putting the bat on the ball, as his career strikeout numbers have shown us. When he does make contact, he hits the ball hard and his wheels help get him on base. In 2018, Siri did increase his walk rates to career highs. However, his strikeout numbers rose as well. He was considered an above average hitter in AA based on wRC+ but that is giving him a heavy bump up due to his walk rate and power. His batting average was low and his strikeouts were at a rate that it’s unrealistic to expect him to ever hit pitching at the top level.Regardless, Siri is an exciting player to follow and watch. He was arguably the best player for Dayton in 2017 and there were high expectations for 2018. Sadly, he ran into a wall in the Reds first Spring Training game and seriously messed up his thumb and didn’t make it back until late May. He’s also been around for a while so if he’s going to make moves with the Reds, and potentially become the CF of the future, he’s gonna have to be serious in 2019 about maturing his approach at the plate.
who was Goldy"The 246th pick in the draft is not a spot at which you expect to find major-league talent Nick Wittgren Jersey , let alone a six-time All-Star. Of the 54 players selected there, if you’ve heard of more than three, you’re doing better than me. From those 54 players, 40 signed. The men who didn’t provide one of those recognizable names: pitcher Cliff Lee, who was drafted by the Marlins of high school, but went to college instead. Of those forty, only one-quarter have reached the major leagues, including future Diamondback Brad Halsey, drafted by the Yankees in 2002. The total, career major-league value provided by all 53 non-Goldschmidt players to the teams which drafted them? 5.7 bWAR. Or, as Goldschmidt calls it. a decent season. Looking at it another way, every team (including the Diamondbacks) passed on Paul. Not just once or twice, but at least seven times they looked at him and said, “Nah, we’ll go elsewhere.” The Angels took eleven players before Goldschmidt was drafted - though since they included the one player worth more WAR than Goldy, they’ve probably got over it [though amusingly, Mike Trout wasn’t even the first guy they picked, preferring Randall Grichuk] Prune out Trout, Goldy and the 27 other top players by bWAR. The remaining 217 players to be picked before Goldschmidt have been worth less combined to the franchises who selected them, than Goldschmidt (36.8 bWAR vs. 40.1). The D-backs are not immune from this, of course. They skipped Goldschmidt even more times - twelve - before eventually picking him. In typically low-key fashion, Paul wasn’t even paying attention when they did: “I wasn’t listening to the Draft on the internet, but the Diamondbacks called and said they might take me. My parents were listening, they heard it, so it was pretty cool, I was excited Julio Urias Jersey , obviously. In terms of the bonus [he signed for the princely sum of $95,000], I put as much as I could in the bank... I ended up buying an engagement ring for my wife -- that’s probably the biggest purchase.” Here are the players they chose over Paul, along with their overall spot in the draft. 16: Bobby Borchering17: A.J. Pollock35: Matt Davidson41: Chris Owings45: Mike Belfiore60: Eric Smith64: Marc Krauss95: Keon Broxton126: David Nick156: Ryan Wheeler186: Bradin Hagens216: Matt HelmSave Pollock, it’s an unimpressive list: no-one else has given Arizona even one-tenth of the value Goldschmidt delivered. Keon Broxton currently has the highest other career bWAR, and he was sold to the Pirates before appearing for us. We on the SnakePit were no different in overlooking Paul. Our draft-day coverage made absolutely no mention at all of our eighth-round pick at the time.2009Let the record show that the above is the first mention at all of Goldschmidt I was able to find here (hat-tip to Stephen B for locating it!). More information came in December that year, when Dan Strittmatter covered the top forty prospects in the Arizona system, including Goldschmidt... at number forty. Here’s what he wrote:He had indeed demolished the Pioneer League, batting .334 with a 1.045 OPS and 18 home-runs in 74 games. But there was still a lot of skepticism. In the following year’s Baseball Prospect book, John Sickels of Minor League Ball graded Goldschmidt only as a C-grade, “pending some exposure to better pitching, having been burned by gaudy rookie ball numbers from college hitters before.” He left Goldschmidt off his top 20 list, ranking him behind such names as David Nick, Bryan Augenstein and Wes Roemer. The only place where Paul seems to have been ranked highly at that point, is a Bleacher Report piece which had him at #8, written by someone who cheerfully admits to not being a D-backs fan. 2010The following season, he was promoted to High-A Visalia, where he was younger than average for the league. It didn’t matter, as Goldschmidt continued to rake, batting .314 with 35 home-runs, and being named MVP in the California League. Pundits began to take at least some notice of Paul’s talents, though top 10 rankings for him were still rare. Dan had moved the first-baseman all the way up to #12. As well as the juicy pull-quote at the top of this article, he reported positive words being said about Goldschmidt’s defense, but was still concerned about the strikeout. [Goldy had a K-rate that year of 26.9%, the highest of his career]Bench bat, eh? Why does that sound familiar? :) John Sickels did put him in our top 10 http://www.dodgersfanproshop.com/authentic-max-muncy-jersey , at #9, calling him a “power monster”, but cautioning about the “strikeout issues that could prevent a good batting average/OBP at higher levels.” Overall, he was bumped up to a B- grade, with Sickels writing that “even as a low batting average with power guy, he should still have value.” There were similar questions about whether Paul was “for real” in a July 2010 thread on Diamondbacks Bullpen: “I have serious doubts (confirmed by the MLE models) that he could translate this power to the majors at his current rate of K/BB in A ball. If he improves his “eye” and continues [to] show power like this in AA - we can talk. Until then...”2011This was the first time I got to see Paul in action, during spring training. He hit a game-tying home-run in the ninth inning of the first game at Salt River Fields - we’ll talk more about that later in the week. He didn’t make the roster on Opening Day, and went to Double-A Mobile, where the hitting continued. Over 103 games for the BayBears, Goldschmidt hit .304 with 30 home-runs and a career-high 1.061 OPS, winning the USA Today Minor League Player of the Year award. But there were still those who doubted. Most infamously around these parts? Keith Law, who in May called Goldschmidt “pretty limited”, then listed him as a “low-ceiling” prospect (alongside future AZ closer, Brad Boxberger!), evaluating him as follows:In Law’s defense, he wasn’t alone. Also in May, ESPN colleague Jason Grey wrote in his scouting report on Paul: “There are also questions about Goldschmidt’s bat speed; as in, some scouts think his swing might be a touch too slow and/or too long to consistently mash major league hurlers... Can he hit that good fastball, or does he have to cheat to do so, which then makes him vulnerable to off-speed stuff?” But Mobile manager Turner Ward had no such doubts, calling Goldschmidt “a big-league player in the making.”The Opening Day starter for Arizona at 1B that year was Juan Miranda, but he was sent down to Reno on July 15 - a few days after Goldschmidt had appeared for Team USA in the Futures Game, as part of the All-Star celebrations at Chase Field. Later that month, the Diamondbacks traded another first-baseman, Brandon Allen, along with Jordan Norberto to the Oakland Athletics for Brad Ziegler. Goldschmidt was called up on August 1st. He never went back down Chris Taylor Jersey , and as they say, the rest is history. What happened? How does an eighth-round pick end up posting a minor-league line, of .317/.407/.620, for an OPS of 1.027, with 83 home-runs in 315 games? How did a player who never made a top 100 list, or even Baseball America’s list of top ten organizational prospects, become the most valuable position player in the National League over the last seven seasons? Simple answer? Hard effort, and a relentless desire to get better. Sickels more or less nails it:Keith Law concurred, eventually coming around - although it took until late in 2013 before he wrote, “What I didn’t see, or know, about Goldschmidt is that he’s one of the highest-aptitude hitters in the game -- boasting an outstanding work ethic, according to several sources I spoke with who know Goldschmidt personally, but also the intelligence to take instruction and make adjustments as needed. He’s among the best in the game at addressing holes or weaknesses, whether in his swing or on defense or on the bases, such as closing the hole he’d showed on the inner half in his first half-season in the majors, where right-handers especially could beat him with velocity.”Speaking in 2011, Goldschmidt’s batting coach in Double-A, Alan Zinter, also noted the great mindset Paul brought to the game, even as a prospect. “He came right in and just wanted to be consistent. He didn’t try to do more than he’s capable of doing. For a young kid, you don’t see a kid that consistent. He had a routine. He knew what his weaknesses were. He wanted to work on his weaknesses, not just his strengths. He wants to be a big-league ballplayer.” Paul Goldschmidt in an object lesson in being everything you can be, and more. If you put your mind to it, the expectations of others are no longer relevant to your own achievements - and the sky truly is the limit. CHICAGO (AP) — Trevor Bauer was sailing along in another dominant start right until he got struck in the right ankle by a line drive.Another bruising blow couldn’t derail the Cleveland Indians.Bauer pitched two-hit ball into the seventh inning and Michael Brantley and Jose Ramirez hit back-to-back home runs to lift the Indians to a 3-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night.Bauer (12-6) won his fourth straight start. He gave up one run and struck out eight before Jose Abreu’s leadoff liner hit him in the seventh. The ball appeared headed toward the upper portion of his leg before sinking a bit and striking the ankle with his foot in the air. It ricocheted toward first baseman Yonder Alonso, who stepped on the bag for the out.Bauer was slow to rise to his feet and walked around gingerly as manager Terry Francona and an assistant trainer came out to check on him. The Indians brought in Brad Hand http://www.dodgersfanproshop.com/authentic-max-muncy-jersey , ending another dominant start. Bauer is 5-0 with a 1.72 ERA in his past eight outings. The Indians think he just has a bruise, though he did undergo precautionary X-rays after the game.“He got hit pretty hard, but then again just to cover everything, we’ll get an x-ray,” Francona said.Losing Bauer for an extended time obviously would be a big blow for a team that has been banged up. The Indians are also putting slugger Edwin Encarnacion on the disabled list because of swelling in his left biceps, Francona said.“We’ve got nothing but prayers and hopes that everyone will be back soon,” Brantley said. “But at the same time we’ve got to step up as a unit, as a team, go out there and still get our jobs done to the best of our abilities.”GOING DEEPThe game was tied at 1 before Brantley and Ramirez hit consecutive homers against James Shields in the sixth. Brantley also singled and doubled.Cody Allen worked the ninth for his 22nd save in 25 chances. He gave up a leadoff single to Yolmer Sanchez but struck out Avisail Garcia to end the game after Daniel Palka — who homered in the ninth in Friday’s 1-0 victory — flied to deep center.Shields (4-14) allowed two earned runs and seven hits in seven innings. Yoan Moncada homered in the third , but the White Sox committed three errors.“Yeah, it’s been a frustrating season, no doubt about it,” Shields said. “I’m just going to go out there and try and throw some quality starts and go as deep as I can in the game and give us a chance to win. Flip side, Bauer has been pitching very well this year, he’s a tough one to beat. You can’t really give up two home runs in one inning and expect to win the ballgame like that.”TRAINER’S ROOMIndians: Francona said the swelling in Encarnacion’s bicep is “not bad at all,” and X-rays on his right hand “came back actually really good, really clean.” Encarnacion has struggled since being hit on the right hand by Yankees reliever Chad Green before the All-Star break. He has often been swinging with one hand, putting more stress on his upper arms. … RHP Corey Kluber left the ballpark feeling ill prior to the game, though Francona said he should be ready to make his scheduled start against Cincinnati on Tuesday.White Sox: Manager Rick Renteria said OF Leury Garcia (strained left hamstring) continues to ramp up his activity, though the White Sox are “probably three or four days away” from deciding if he will go on a minor league rehab assignment. Garcia was injured on Sunday at Tampa Bay.UP NEXTIndians: RHP Carlos Carrasco (13-6, 3.69 ERA) looks to bounce back from a loss to Minnesota on Tuesday. He was 5-0 in his previous six starts.White Sox: RHP Dylan Covey (4-8, 5.58 ERA) — 1-7 with an 8.24 ERA in his past nine starts — tries to break his slump. Gustin is a power rusher who excels with his initial punch and ability to extend blockers off of his frame before disengaging. Gustin has some position flexibility due to playing as a stand-up player most of his time at USC, but he looks more comfortable closer to the line of scrimmage rather than in space. His initial burst off the line of scrimmage comes and goes and is directly related to his pad level on his first step Eric Murray Jersey , but once in motion, the athleticism is evident. Gustin’s injury history is the biggest worry, as he has had his past two seasons shortened with a broken toe and torn bicep, and then a broken ankle in 2018. Even more than the physical injuries, his inability to practice has slowed his technical nuance to his game. While Gustin isn’t raw or a project, there are technical refinements in his game that he will have to make to maximize his athleticism. If his hand placement and footwork up the arc can be cleaned up even a little bit, his football upside will match his athleticism and then some. The reason Gustin is such a compelling fit for the Chiefs is that unlike other defensive ends Kendall Fuller Jersey , that fit Spags’ mold at the position, he provides some explosive pass-rush potential. He has the baseline ability to threaten the edge with speed, the inside shoulder with power and the integrity of the pocket with his frenetic pace. Gustin is a player that reminds me a lot of Carl Lawson a few years ago—just with better length and less nuance to his game at this point. Lawson was another player that showed some hip tightness on film and a long injury history but has been able to translate his power and his ability to turn speed to power into a very productive early career. Gustin’s growth from his junior year to his senior year, before the ankle injury, was enlightening in terms of showcasing what can happen as he continues to grow form baseline technique to good technique. It’s a complete upside pick that has a fall-back floor of a high effort, pro-ready strength player that can at least play in a rotation.Want to read more player profiles from Arrowhead Pride’s 25 Days of Draftmas? This is part three of a three-part weekly film analysis on the performance of Patrick Mahomes. Part one: something good and something bad here, part two: something special here. The Chiefs and their young quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, are about to embark on a new season. The playoffs are a different beast. They’ve positioned themselves as well as they possibly could have to make a run at a Super Bowl. The AFC runs through Arrowhead, and to maximize the opportunity they have they’ll need to be at their best. That includes the MVP.There were a few positive and negative indicators in the game against the Raiders. First Anthony Hitchens Jersey , something you want to see more of moving forward, and then something that needs to get cleaned up at a time where a loss sends you home.Something improvedAs we’ve documented throughout the season, Mahomes has been surprisingly inconsistent with deep shots over the defense. This week, he connected with Hill on a big play down the field. The vast majority of the deep ball struggles have been middle-field throws. For some reason, Mahomes hasn’t connected on many throws that are going over the top of the entire defense. It’s odd. While this throw wasn’t in the middle of the field, seeing him connect with Hill over the top was a positive sign. If the opportunity presents itself in the playoffs, the Chiefs can’t afford to miss these kinds of throws. The margin for error is about to become much slimmer. It feels like most of the season has been trying to not underthrow or overthrow Hill. They’ve yet to find a consistent sweet spot. Hopefully Mitchell Schwartz Jersey , they are getting close. This is a good sign.Needs improvementMahomes needs to make sure that he’s hitting on the simple throws at a 100 percent rate. The Chiefs call a run-pass option with Travis Kelce on a bubble. The decision to pass is perfect. The base Mahomes tries to deliver it from isn’t. This is easy yards—maybe a first down—with Kelce on the receiving end.Simple plays like this can’t be wasted as the games become more magnified. Mahomes has consistently got his team out of bad situations with excellent execution on third-and-long plays, but it doesn’t have to be like that all the time. Being perfect on these plays will go a long way in winning football games in the Divisional Round and beyond. The Arrowhead Pride LaboratoryMiss this week’s episode of the AP Laboratory? The Chargers had struggled with their pass rush and keeping opponents out of the end zone in their first four games. But Los Angeles is hoping that Sunday's 26-10 victory over Oakland signals a change for the rest of the season. The Chargers sacked the Raiders' Derek Carr three times and allowed only one touchdown. They had allowed the fifth-most points in the league and were ranked in the bottom half of the league in sacks and quarterback pressures after the first quarter of the season."A game like that should give them a lot of confidence. Our defense is getting better," coach Anthony Lynn said Monday. The Chargers (3-2) have not been at full strength defensively all season, but they are starting to get some valuable players back. Defensive tackle Corey Liuget returned from his four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance enhancers, which helped free up the number of times that Melvin Ingram was double-teamed.Ingram, who struggled during the first three games, has played better in the past two. Ingram tied for the team lead in tackles with seven along with a sack and his first regular-season interception.Philip Rivers and the offense converted both Raiders' turnovers into touchdowns."If we can create turnovers and get our offense the ball, we got one of the most high-powered offenses in this league http://www.theramslockerroom.com/authentic-sean-mannion-jersey , so we are trying to get them the ball every time we can," Ingram said.Another reason for the Chargers' success against the Raiders was that they were stingy on third down. They came into the Oakland game allowing the fourth-highest conversion rate on third down (46.8 percent), but the Raiders converted just one of six during the first half and four of 11 for the game. One area where the Chargers have done well the first five weeks is stopping the run. Oakland's Marshawn Lynch came into the game fourth in the league in rushing, but was held to 31 yards on nine carries.Los Angeles has allowed only 100-yard rusher all season (the Rams' Todd Gurley) despite also facing Kansas City's Kareem Hunt, Buffalo's LeSean McCoy and San Francisco's Matt Breida. Six running backs went over the century mark against the Chargers last season, including Hunt twice. They will face a big challenge this week against Cleveland (2-2-1), which is No. 2 in the league in rushing offense with Carlos Hyde Womens Aaron Donald Jersey , Nick Chubb and mobile quarterback Baker Mayfield.Lynn said that defensive end Joey Bosa, who has missed all five games because of a foot injury, could practice this week in a limited capacity. Even if Bosa isn't back until after the Oct. 28 bye week, Lynn is seeing his unit make more progress in making plays without Bosa."We're starting to get more comfortable with the different schemes we are doing," Lynn said. "We are doing some different things with coverages and also bringing different people on blitzes."NOTES: Lynn said that Caleb Sturgis will be the kicker against the Browns despite missing his fourth extra point on Sunday. Sturgis is likely to remain the kicker for at least two more games, but needs to gain consistency if he is going to keep his job. ... Right tackle Joe Barksdale could return to practice this week but will be limited. Barksdale has missed the past four games after suffering a knee injury in the Sept. 9 opener against Kansas City.Follow Joe Reedy at s://joereedy

Football Outsiders on the Vikings defense: Could they be even better? iter Scott Kacsmar in conjunction with the release of this year’s Football Outsiders 2018 Almanac. The first few days of questions focused on the Minnesota Vikings’ offense Garrett Bradbury white jersey , and now we’re going to move on to the other side of the football.Last season, the Vikings fielded one of the best defenses in the National Football League, finishing #1 in the NFL in both points and yardage allowed. They bring back nearly all the starters, and added a lot more pieces in free agency (though it should be noted that these questions were sent to Scott before the Vikings added safety George Iloka earlier this week). So, what does he think of this year’s version of the Zim Reapers? On defense, the Vikings only lost one starter from 2017, and they replaced him with a former Defensive Rookie of the Year in Sheldon Richardson. Is there reason to believe that the Vikings’ defense won’t be every bit as stingy in 2018 as they were in 2017?If the Vikings’ defense does have a weak spot, or at the very least something that’s merely “average” rather than outstanding, it’s the lack of turnovers that Scott mentions in his answer. The Vikings, as a team, only had 19 turnovers in the regular season in 2017, though thanks to the way their offense performed they still finished with a +5 in the giveaway/takeaway numbers. It would be helpful for the Vikings if they could generate a few more turnovers this year, certainly. However, this defense has talent on top of talent on top of talent. There are legitimate stars on all three levels, and not only that, but there’s incredibly solid depth at all of those positions as well. The one exception to that is the linebacker spot, but with the way the Vikings have managed their roster they’re not going to play a lot of base 4-3, and can use their defensive backs in a manner that could mitigate a lot of the issues if something were to happen to either Eric Kendricks or Anthony Barr. We’ve got one final defensive question for Scott Kacsmar of Football Outsiders that we will be presenting you with tomorrow Garrett Bradbury Minnesota Vikings Jerseys , so keep your eyes out for that. And, once again, for some of the NFL’s best statistical analysis, be sure to grab yourself a copy of the Football Outsiders 2018 Almanac to peruse while you’re waiting for the regular season to start. Down here STL way, it’s colder, might get some flurries over the weekend, but yeah...it was 75 yesterday.Anyway Minnesota Vikings Jerseys Stitched , we’re down to our final four games left to decide the greatest playoff win of all time, and to be honest, it’s the four games I thought would be here. We have four really great ones left, and any one of them would make a fine champion, so may the best game win. Up until now, I’ve given a game summary, but if you click on the ‘Great Playoff Win of All Time Tournament’ link above, you can scroll through and read about those in any of the previous rounds, and catch some YouTube highlights as well. Today, I’m going to change it up, and give you why I think each game is the greatest win ever.As always, I’ll put a poll at the end, which will be open for about 24 hours. You’ll get to vote, and the winner by popular vote will advance to the final. Our first final four game features the 1969 NFL Championship game against the Cleveland Browns versus the 2004 Wildcard game against the Green Bay Packers.1969 NFL Championship against the Browns. For fans that are old enough to remember the entirety of the Purple People Eaters era, this was the apex of that era, as a lot of folks think this was the best team Bud Grant ever put on the field. It was the Vikings that people remember—a tough, hard nosed team that played in brutal conditions, creating the best homefield advantage in the NFL. This team was the last official NFL Champion Garrett Bradbury black jersey , and the 1969 season epitomized the Purple People Eaters era. QB Joe Kapp was the unquestioned leader, and represented everything that fans of the Vikings loved: a blue collar guy that didn’t throw a textbook pass, but made up for it with guts and willpower. This era has become somewhat mythical for those who witnessed it, and the 1969 team will always be a special one. And it’s this game that represents what that 1969 team was about.2004 Wildcard game against the Packers. Was this the best team in franchise history? No, not even close. It was a talented group, but like every team of the Mike Tice era, it was as schizophrenic as Minnesota weather in April. The Vikings really struggled at the end of the year, and couldn’t clinch a plyoff spot on their own, needing a series of breaks to back in to the last wildcard spot. No one gave them a shot against the Packers at Lambeau Field. Which is why this game merits serious consideration for the greatest playoff win in franchise history. They put it all together and beat their firecest rival, on the road, against a Hall of Fame quarterback running a team many people thought would go to the Super Bowl. And not only did they beat them, they dominated them for most of the game. When you add those things together, and the Randy Moss ‘Moon Over Lambeau’ when the Vikings iced the game, yeah, this win is among the best.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton returned from the injured list and was in the lineup for Tuesday night’s scheduled game against division rival Tampa Bay.The 2017 National League MVP was to bat fifth and play right field. Stanton last appeared in a big league game on March 31, landing on the injured list a day later with a strained left biceps that later led to shoulder complications.“It’s been a long time. It feels longer than it has been for me Denard Span Jersey ,” Stanton said. “The boys have been fun to watch while I’ve been gone, so it’s going to be good to fall in and battle with them.”The 29-year-old star began a short-lived rehab assignment in mid-May before a sore left calf landed him right back on the shelf.“Once I was ready I started taking at-bats. First extended spring training, then I got hit in the knee and that set me back,” Stanton said. “I probably should have took some more time than I did, and that set me back because my knee was unstable and my calf strained.”Stanton was 5 for 18 with four home runs and seven RBIs in five games for Tampa and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in his most recent rehab stint, which began a week ago and wrapped up on Sunday.“It’s just having the quickness, me getting the barrel there,” Stanton said about his minor league production instilling confidence. “So obviously the homers are the ultimate goal http://www.marinersfanproshop.com/authentic-edgar-martinez-jersey , but if I just squared up a couple of balls that’s what I’m looking for.”The hulking slugger rejoins the Yankees as they sit atop the American League East, 1 1/2 games in front of the visiting Rays. The Yanks have homered in 20 consecutive games, the second-longest stretch in franchise history, and rank fourth in the AL with 113 long balls. The club acquired the league’s leading home run hitter in Edwin Encarnacion from Seattle on Saturday and expects fellow slugger Aaron Judge back from a strained oblique at some point on this homestand.“We were already dangerous and now it’s another icing to the cake,” Stanton said with a smirk. “We got to build this together and once we’re all on full force, it’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m just glad to be back, and Aaron’s not far behind.”New York shipped second baseman Starlin Castro and a pair of minor leaguers to Miami in exchange for the 6-foot-6 Stanton in December 2017, following an MVP season in which he hit a major league-leading 59 homers.Stanton hit .266 with 38 homers and 100 RBIs for the Yankees last year. He is expected to spend most of his time in left field once Judge returns Ben Gamel Jersey , with the designated hitter role reserved mainly for Encarnacion and Luke Voit.“Excited to have those kinds of players, weapons, and hopefully they can get settled in here early and get comfortable and off we go,” manager Aaron Boone said about his power-laden lineup.
WEST PALM BEACH http://www.rockiesfanproshop.com/authentic-chad-bettis-jersey , Fla. (AP) —has his way, Major League Baseball’s pitch clock will die in the South Florida humidity.“I know as players that’s something that MLB is trying to negotiate,” the Washington Nationals ace said Saturday night. “I don’t think there’s negotiation here. As players, it just shouldn’t be in the game. Having a pitch clock, if you have ball-strike implications, that’s messing with the fabric of the game. There’s no clock in baseball and there’s no clock in baseball for a reason.”After pushing for an agreement with players last season, management decided on its own to experiment with a 20-second pitch clock during spring training this year, part of the sport’s effort to speed the pace of play. Owners have the right to implement the clock for the regular season but would prefer to reach an agreement with the union.Under the phase-in designed to allow teams to get used to the concept without fear of penalty, pitchers and batters who were taking too long in Saturday’s games were merely warned to hurry up.When the policy, which has been used in some minor leagues since 2015, is phased in Trevor Story Jersey , a ball could be charged in certain situations to pitchers who do not begin their motion in time. Batters delaying the game might draw a strike.Washington played its Grapefruit League opener Saturday night against Houston. Scherzer came close to using the full 20 seconds on a couple of occasions with runners on base, but the clock didn’t expire. The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches features a pitch clock beneath the main outfield scoreboard and two at ground level behind home plate near each dugout.“Now having to actually throw to it, I think it’s more of a distraction than anything,” Scherzer said. “I get that there are parts of the game that we can clean up and I think that there can be meaningful changes. I’m fundamentally against this.”A newly elected member of the Major League Baseball Players Association’s executive board, Scherzer felt his first outing dragging a bit, attributing the slow play to a high amount of foul balls. He referenced an article published a few days ago by FiveThirtyEight citing an increase in foul balls as being a major reason for longer games.“I’m not going to put my name next to this clock,” he said.Scherzer allowed one run on Jake Marisnick’s homer, one of three hits he gave up in two innings. He struck out three and walked one while throwing 25 of 44 pitches for strikes. The home run by Marisnick to straightaway center field led off the game and came on a 2-2 fastball.“It’s a fastball right down the middle, that’s what it goes back to,” Scherzer said. “I’ve got to get that fastball to the edge.” KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Adalberto Mondesi and Terrance Gore used their speed to help the Kansas City Royals rally for a win.Mondesi and Jorge Soler had consecutive one-out doubles in the eighth inning to tie it http://www.rockiesfanproshop.com/authentic-chad-bettis-jersey , and pinch-runner Gore stole third and scored the go-ahead run on Cheslor Cuthbert’s ensuing single to lead the Royals to a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night.Kansas City manager Ned Yost credited Mondesi for “a hustle double” — for his third hit of the game — to start the rally. He then scored on Soler’s hit off Victor Alcantara (2-1). Gore ran for Soler, stole third and scored on Cuthbert’s single between three fielders in right field to give the Royals their first lead of the game.Article continues below ...“Cuthbert got a break on that one, hit a pop-up into no-man’s land,” Yost said. “That’s the first break we’ve caught in a while, but I’ll take it.”Detroit manager Ron Gardenhire agreed with Yost’s assessment of the go-ahead run.“I guess it’s no-man’s land,” Gardenhire said. “Somebody has to take charge on the ball. With us playing the infield in, it bloops out there. The ball landed and that was just a break for them.”It was the first time all season the Kansas City won when trailing after six innings.Mondesi had rounded first aggressively on his first two hits before heading back to the bag. With his club down a run, he didn’t hesitate on his last hit.“Every time I hit the ball I run hard,” Mondesi said. “When I hit it I saw the left fielder was in the gap, so I thought I had a chance. I just ran hard.”Scott Barlow (2-2) pitched a scoreless eighth inning to get the win, and Ian Kennedy got the last three outs for his fifth save. The Tigers’ bullpen wasted a brilliant effort from Spencer Turnbull. He scattered four hits and two walks with five strikeouts over six innings. It was only the third time in 14 starts that Turnbull had not allowed a run.Jakob Junis had a quality start for Kansas City Greg Holland Jersey , allowing two runs and five hits — including solo homers by Nicholas Castellanos and Brandon Dixon — with five strikeouts in seven innings.“We had a pretty good game plan and we executed it,” Junis said. “We had a couple of mistakes, but luckily they were solos. That kept us in the game. I wanted to challenge them. I got behind a couple of times. I didn’t want to put anybody on with a free base. Those were huge.”The Tigers got to Junis in the first on a 427-foot home run by Castellanos to left-center. It was Castellanos’ 100th career homer, all with the Tigers. It marked the ninth time in 14 starts that Junis gave up a run in the first inning.Dixon hit a 447-foot homer in the fourth, into the fountains 20 feet beyond where Castellanos’ homer traveled, to put the Tigers up 2-0.“(Junis) made some mistakes, center-cut two fastballs, but he did an awesome job of keeping us in the game,” Yost said. “He gave us an opportunity to come back and win the game.”Following Turnbull’s departure, Ryan O’Hearn led off the seventh with his sixth home run of the season. He broke an 0-for-15 slump with his 439-foot blast to right.TRAINER’S ROOMRoyals 3B Hunter Dozier was eligible to come off the 10-day injured list, but he is not close to being ready. He’s been on the IL since June 3 http://www.rockiesfanproshop.com/authentic-chad-bettis-jersey , retroactive to May 31. Manager Ned Yost said, “We’re going to be working him back into it, making sure everything is functional and feeling good. We’ve got to make sure that he’s healthy, 100 percent. I don’t know if we’ll want to send him out on a rehab. When he’s ready to go we’ll make that decision.”Tigers: SS Niko Goodrum was removed from the game following the top of the third after he fouled a pitch off his knee. He left with a right knee contusion. He finished the at-bat with a strikeout and was replaced by Gordon Beckham in the bottom of the third.UP NEXTThe Tigers will send LHP Daniel Norris (2-5, 4.60 ERA) to the mound in the second game of the series. The Royals will counter with LHP Danny Duffy (3-3, 4.68 ERA). Duffy was hit on the right kneecap in his last start against Boston. The line drive bounced to third for the final out of the second inning. He came back out for the third but retired just one of six batters he faced in the inning before being pulled.
CINCINNATI (AP) — ving to call one off.The second game of their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates was called off Saturday because of rain. The start was delayed 40 minutes before it was postponed with storms forecast all evening. It’ll be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on May 27.It was the majors’ first postponement of the 2019 season. Fifty-four games were called off last year — the most since 1989 — largely due to cold http://www.giantsfanproshop.com/authentic-evan-longoria-jersey , wet weather at the start of the season. The Reds have called off only 16 games during their 17 seasons at Great American Ball Park. Two were postponed because of rain last season, including the season opener against the Nationals that was pushed back a day. Both teams will stay with their scheduled starters for the final game of the now-shortened series, with Trevor Williams opposing Sony Gray in his Reds debut Sunday. Pittsburgh’s Joe Musgrove will skip his turn in the rotation.Williams went 14-10 last season and is trying to build upon his second-half success. His 1.38 ERA after the All-Star break was second-best in the majors by a starter behind Tampa Bay’s Blake Snell (1.17).Gray went 11-9 with the Yankees last season. The Reds got him in a trade on Jan. 21 after he agreed to add three years to his deal worth $30.5 million through 2022.The Reds won the series opener 5-3 on Thursday on a sunny, 70-degree day — the Reds’ warmest home opener since 2010. Temperatures around 40 degrees are forecast for Sunday.TRAINER’S ROOMPirates: CF Starling Marte was back in the posted lineup after missing the opener with a migraine. He worked out Friday without problem.Reds: Matt Kemp was scheduled to start in left field instead of Jesse Winker. Manager David Bell said he wanted to get Kemp a chance to play early in the season. He came to the Reds in a trade with the Dodgers along with Yasiel Puig and left-hander Alex Wood.CALL TO THE … OUTFIELD?Bell used reliever Michael Lorenzen in center field for the last two innings of the opening win. Bell said on Saturday that he could have moved Lorenzen to the mound if the game had gone extra innings.“He is available as a pitcher at that point,” Bell said.Lorenzen played center field at Cal State Fullerton and occasionally closed games, so he’s accustomed to taking the mound on short notice. He said Saturday he wouldn’t need much time to warm up.“Running around the outfield helps Mark Melancon Jersey , and your adrenaline is already pumped,” Lorenzen said.QUITE A DEBUTPirates manager Clint Hurdle was impressed with reliever Nick Burdi’s appearance on Thursday. The right-hander pitched the eighth inning and fanned the three batters he faced. Burdi, 26, had Tommy John surgery on May 3, 2017. He made it back to the majors last September and gave up four runs while retiring one batter at St. Louis. He also threw a scoreless inning at Milwaukee.Hurdle said Saturday that Burdi’s delivery is more fluid this season, in part because he’s been able to throw in the offseason instead of going through rehab for the elbow operation.“What a difference a season makes from the time he was on the mound in St. Louis to end the season Deion Sanders Jersey , to the young man we saw on the mound (Thursday),” Hurdle said. “There is a difference, in my eye test, to his delivery. It’s much more smooth.”UP NEXTPirates: After concluding the series Sunday, the Pirates open at PNC Park on Monday against the Cardinals.Reds: Cincinnati wraps up its opening homestand with three games against the Brewers starting Monday. ATLANTA (AP) — New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway says right-hander Noah Syndergaard has a low-grade hamstring strain and will miss at least one start.Syndergaard underwent an MRI on Sunday and was placed on the 10-day injured list. Callaway hopes Syndergaard misses just one start but says it’s too early to tell if he will need more time to recover.Reliever Wilmer Font is a candidate to take Syndergaard’s turn in the rotation, but Callaway says Seth Lugo is not.“I think he’s so valuable in his role right now that it’d be tough to take him out Alen Hanson Jersey ,” Callaway said.Syndergaard reached for the back of his right leg after throwing a pitch in the seventh inning Saturday night against St. Louis. He walked off the field with a limp, but wasn’t favoring the leg while playing catch and doing agility drills before Monday’s game.He is 5-4 with a 4.55 ERA in 15 starts.
DENVER (AP) — st teams with a losing record. It’s a trend they just can’t seem to shake — even when they’re rolling along. Eric Hosmer and Austin Hedges homered off Tyler Anderson and the San Diego Padres cooled off the Rockies with a 4-3 win on Tuesday night.Colorado is 23-24 against teams below .500 and 45-33 versus those at or above .500.“You’re reading too much into it Bradley Zimmer Jersey ,” Rockies catcher Chris Iannetta said. “This team is really good. We’ve been saying that all year. Their record isn’t indicative to the amount of talent they have.”Colorado arrived home after a 5-1 trip that included a four-game sweep of Atlanta.Still, this had potential trap game written all over it: Colorado’s streak of 46 straight contests against teams at or above .500 ended with a Padres squad that is hovering at the bottom of the NL. Over the stretch, the Rockies went 30-16 and climbed back into the thick of the NL West race.Asked before the game if he was concerned about a letdown, Rockies manager Bud Black simply responded: “No. No concern.”The Padres are 6-7 against the Rockies this season. Hedges had the big blow with a solo homer in the sixth, giving San Diego a 4-3 lead.Padres left-hander Robbie Erlin (3-3) allowed three runs over five innings. He made five scoreless relief appearances against the Rockies earlier this season.“I really like Robbie on the mound right now. He’s done a nice job,” Padres manager Andy Green said. “Thought we could’ve made a couple plays for him, probably would’ve made his day a little bit easier. Probably would’ve have kept some runs off the board for him as well. But he was efficient.”The pivotal moment was in the eighth when the first two Rockies hitters reached on singles. DJ LeMahieu bunted them over, and the Padres intentionally walked Nolan Arenado to load the bases.Craig Stammen then escaped the jam by striking out Trevor Story and getting Carlos Gonzalez to ground out to second baseman Christian Villanueva, who made a nifty sliding play.Black defended a decision that took an at-bat out of Arenado’s hands. The All-Star third baseman is hitting .309 with 30 homers and 87 RBIs.“Obviously, we took away Nolan’s at-bat … to get Trevor up there with the bases loaded and Cargo behind him,” Black said. “It didn’t work out for Trevor.”Kirby Yates pitched the ninth for his fifth save Brandon Guyer Jersey , with Chris Iannetta flying out to deep left to end the game.Anderson (6-6) had pinpoint accuracy over 6 1/3 innings — 74 of his 99 pitches were strikes — except for two misplaced cutters. Hosmer hit one for a two-run shot in the first inning and Hedges added his 10th homer of the season. The left-handed Anderson has now surrendered 26 homers, which is tied for the most in the NL.“Anytime you throw a pitch that goes up the wall, you wish you had it back,” Anderson said.Iannetta took a foul tip off his right wrist while catching in the top of the fifth, but remained in the game. In the bottom half, he launched a solo homer to tie the game at 3.TRAINER’S ROOMPadres: LHP Eric Lauer (left forearm strain) is scheduled to throw about 65 pitches Friday for Triple-A El Paso. It will be his second rehab start since going on the DL on July 31.HOLLIDAY ROADEntering Tuesday, slugger Matt Holliday was hitting .347 with three homers in 14 games for Triple-A Albuquerque. He figures to be on the Rockies’ radar with rosters expanding on Sept. 1.“I want him to come up. I want him here,” Arenado said. “He was one of my favorite players growing up. … I know he can definitely be a help.”Holliday played the first five seasons of his 14-year career with the Rockies. He hit .290 as a rookie in 2004 and helped lead Colorado to its only World Series appearance in 2007.UP NEXTPadres RHP Jacob Nix (1-1, 6.75 ERA) will make his third career start and first against the Rockies on Wednesday. Wright gave up all five runs in a very rough first inning that culminated in back-to-back homers by the Knights. After that first inning, Kyle found his groove and just allowed a pair of singles the following three innings. The trio of Andres Santiago, Elian Leyva, and Corbin Clouse combined to blank the Knights the following five innings while striking out six, and walking two. Unfortunately for them, the offense could not mount a big enough comeback before ultimately falling to the Knights 5-4.Travis Demeritte drove in the first run of the game for Gwinnett with a sacrifice fly in the second inning that scored Adam Duvall while a single by Ryan LaMarre drove in Alex Jackson to close the gap to 5-2. Gwinnett went on to score two more runs in the five inning - highlighted by an Austin Riley single that drove in Rafael Ortega to close the gap to 5-4 but that was all that Gwinnett could muster. Even without his best command - Ian still struck out five (10.4 K/9) and gave up just one unearned run while lowering his ERA to 2.08 on the season which shows his lights out stuff - but he now has surrendered 8 walks on the season (5.5 BB/9). Philip Pfeifer came in relief and gave up an earned run over 2.1 innings of work. Jason Hursh finished out the game with two perfect innings where he struck out one while collecting his first save of the season. Mississippi trailed most of the game, actually, as they were blanked until Cristian Pache took matters into his own hands and homered to left - his first of the season. Daniel Lockhart put Mississippi up the following inning with his first homer of the season as well - a solo shot that extended the lead to 3-1. C.J. Alexander’s rough start to the season continued tonight as he went 0-for-3 and lowered his OPS on the season to a meager .485. Coming into the season as a fast riser in the organization, C.J. has run into his first real rough stretch of games during his short professional career. It was only a matter of time before he ran into one and it’s how he responds to this that really sets the tone for his path. Daniel Lockhart, son of Keith, went 1-for-4 with a homer, and increased his OPS to .833 on the season. The two earned runs are actually the most runs he’s surrendered in a game this season which shows how impressive of a start he’s had. While he hasn’t had the strikeout rate you would like to see from a 24 year old in A+ ball, his command has not wavered - sporting a 2.6 BB/9 rate while allowing opponents to hit just .158 off of him. Brandon S. White came into the game in the seventh and pitched two perfect innings while striking out four. That’s five scoreless outings in a row to start the season for Brandon. Sean McLaughlin worked the ninth and picked up his first save of the season. The Florida offense was not particularly dynamic as they were limited to three hits - highlighted by a three run triple by Kevin Josephina in the five run seventh inning. It’s been a pretty tough offensive start of the season for Florida, who didn’t have a single hitter with an OPS over .800 following the game but they are still just two games below .500 because of their strong pitching. In the 2016 NFL Draft Olisaemeka Udoh Jersey nfl draft , the Minnesota Vr’s class, taking him in the second round with the 41st overall selection. In the 28 games that the Vikings have played since then (counting postseason contests), Cook has been available for just seven of those games, owing to a knee injury that cost him much of his rookie season and a hamstring injury that has hampered him this year. However, that might be set to change on Sunday when the Vikings host the Detroit Lions at U.S. Bank Stadium.According to numerous sources on social media, Cook might be making his return to the field this week. If he does so Super Bowl Olisaemeka Udoh Jersey , he will be playing a limited number of snaps.Of course, that was originally the plan for Cook leading up to the Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals as well. Cook actually had some full participation practice in the week leading up to the Cardinals game, but after going through pregame warmups, he was scratched once again. Unless I missed some reports, there wasn’t any consideration give to making him active in Week 7 or Week 8, either.Cook suffered his hamstring injury in overtime of the Week 2 tie against the Packers Garrett Bradbury Minnesota Vikings Jerseys , and has not actually been on the field since the first half of the Week 4 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He was on a set snap count for that game, too, and did not play in the second half.In Cook’s absence, Latavius Murray has done a respectable job helping the Vikings establish a running game, but it would be nice to see Cook back out on the field and making an impact again. We’ll have to see how this shakes out. Personally, I’m not going to believe he’s playing until he’s actually out there standing next to Kirk Cousins in the Vikings’ backfield. The Minnesota Vikings Minnesota Vikings Jerseys 2019 , along with 23 other less-important NFL teams, can start looking forward to the 2019 NFL Draft. In a scenario that Vikings fans aren’t really accustomed to, the team should be in line for a bevy of late-round draft choices for this year’s selection meeting. The folks from Over the Cap. . .who have been very accurate over the years in projecting these sorts of things. . .have released their final projections for the 2019 compensatory picks. They have the Vikings receiving three Compensatory Draft Selections in the 2019 NFL Draft. They are projected to receive a sixth-round choice to compensate for the loss of Teddy Bridgewater, and seventh-round picks to compensate for the losses of Tramaine Brock (which is still pretty hilarious) and Shamar Stephen. The Vikings were originally slated to receive a third-round compensatory selection for the loss of quarterback Sam Bradford, who signed with the Arizona Cardinals. However, since the Cardinals released Bradford before Week 10 of the NFL season Garrett Bradbury Jersey Cheap , Over the Cap believes that Bradford will not count towards the Compensatory Picks formula for this year. It would be pretty awesome if he did, but it doesn’t sound like something we should be holding our collective breath over. With that in mind, it appears that the Vikings’ draft selections are as followsFirst-round pick (#18 overall)Second-round pick (#50 overall)Third-round pick (#82 overall)Fourth-round pickFifth-round pick (traded to the Denver Broncos in exchange for Trevor Siemian)Sixth-round pickSixth-round pick (compensatory)Seventh-round pick (traded to the New York Giants in exchange for Brett Jones)Seventh-round pick (compensatory)Seventh-round pick (compensatory)That still leaves the Vikings with eight picks. . .but man, that extra Day 2 selection would have been nice, wouldn’t it? Maybe the NFL will see their way clear to making that happen, but I have my doubts.

And if so, what does that mean for his running game outputs?CDTShareTweetShareShareHow many rushes is Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley going to get in 2019?Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley carries the ball against the Indianapolis Colts, Sep. 10 Los Angeles Rams Jerseys Stitched , 2017.Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY SportsLos Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley is headed toward a blank page.JTG came out of the 2019 postseason on the back of limited playing time and misleading commentary from himself and Rams Head Coach Sean McVay to the point that nobody, inside Rams HQ or out, has a firm grasp on what Gurley’s 2019 season will look like.A recent article from the Athletic’s Vinny Bonsignore and Rich Hammond looked to project Gurley’s 2019 season statistically. It’s a courageous effort given the unknowns.Hammond voiced the unknowns well:So in considering where Gurley’s headed statistically, let’s first look at 2018.Gurley’s season can be broken down into four periods.Weeks 1-13: The Rams enjoyed their full running back depth chart with Malcolm Brown backing Gurley up.Weeks 14-15: Brown injured his clavicle against the Detroit Lions in Week 13, and the Rams didn’t make a move to bring in a replacement meaning the RB depth chart was Gurley> John Kelly> Justin Davis. That didn’t leave a valve to spell Gurley that the staff was comfortable giving carries.Weeks 16-17: Gurley aggravated his knee in Week 15 and missed the final two regular season games. The Rams signed RB C.J. Anderson who leapfrogged Kelly and Davis to immediately take on roughly 66% of the rushing workload with Kelly taking the other third. The postseason: Gurley returned into a jobshare with Anderson. The three games were distinct in usage, but overall Anderson had three-fifths of the carries with Gurley the remaining 40%.So in looking from 2018 to 2019, we’ve got two clear distinctions to consider. One will be Gurley’s overall readiness. Despite what we’ve learned about his knee and his usage in the playoffs, I’m not sure that Gurley can’t be as “healthy” for Week 1 for the 2019 season as he was for Week 1 last year. That being said Dakota Allen Los Angeles Rams Jerseys , there is the obvious potential for Gurley to be less available physically. If that’s the case, then clearly we’re going to see a major reduction in his usage at least early on in the season. There’s also the nature of reaggravating the knee which would incur a major reduction as well if not some time off like at the end of the regular season. The second factor is the addition of RB Darrell Henderson through the 2019 NFL Draft. The Rams opted not to re-sign Anderson. Instead, they traded up to use the 70th overall pick to take Henderson. If the staff favored Anderson’s inclusion with Gurley throughout the playoffs, their willingness to move on from him and sacrifice draft capital for Hendo is a strong signal that they’ll favor their newest running back even moreso. So those two factors will clearly affect the outputs once we get to the season. Before we get to any statistical projection though, let’s check the math on Gurley’s usage in those four periods from 2018:Period 1, Weeks 1-13: 700 snaps (85.05% of RB snaps, 58.33 snaps/gm), 223 carries (83.83% of RB carries Dakota Allen Jersey Baby , 18.58 carries/gm)Period 2, Weeks 14-15: 125 snaps (91.24%, 62.5), 23 (85.19%, 11.5)Period 3, Weeks 16-17: N/APeriod 4, postseason: 120 (56.34%, 40) Dakota Allen Jersey nfl draft , 30 (39.47%, 10)There was a significant reduction in Gurley’s rushing outputs over the back end of the season without a major reduction in snaps prior to the playoffs. In his first eight regular season games in 2018, Gurley averaged 21.13 carries per game. The final six regular season games? Just 14.5. That obviously preceded his playoff output of 10 carries per game in the jobshare with Anderson. So 2019.Bonsignore has Gurley averaging 15 carries per game (that’s 240 total) finishing with 1,070 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. Hammond goes with 200 carries (12.5 per game), 960 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground.I’m inclined to go with something closer to Hammond’s projection less because of Gurley and more because of Henderson. The Rams’ coaching staff clearly was attracted to Anderson’s outputs and the versatility he added to their ground game in the playoffs to the degree that it persuaded some media members to go as far as to dismiss Gurley’s injury as a factor whatsoever. Consider then what will happen when Henderson has a good game especially if it comes in a game where Gurley doesn’t put up huge numbers. So I’m going to take the under and go with:186 carries for 952 yards (a career-high 5.12 yards per rush) and 15 touchdownsWhat’s your prediction for JTG in 2019?

HOUSTON (AP) — Jackie Bradley Jr. had only three hits in the AL Championship Series. He certainly made them count.Batting at the bottom of the order Jon Lester Jersey , Bradley homered twice and drove in nine runs to win Most Valuable Player honors as the Boston Red Sox powered their way past Houston and into the World Series.Bradley connected for the go-ahead hits in two Boston wins and a game-sealing grand slam in another. He was selected ALCS MVP after the Red Sox clinched the pennant with a 4-1 victory over the Astros in Game 5 on Thursday night.“It’s amazing,” Bradley said. “This is what we set out to do when we come to spring training. And we battled — we’ve been battle-tested, played against a lot of great ballteams. This is definitely a special moment.”Even though the center fielder hit only .200 (3 for 15) in the best-of-seven playoff, Bradley was a big reason Boston knocked out the defending champions after losing to the Astros in the Division Series last year.Bradley had the fewest hits and lowest batting average for any position player to win MVP of a league championship series. But he delivered a three-run double and a two-run homer to go with his clutch grand slam.“There’s nobody on this team that I can think of in baseball that deserves it more than Jackie. Just, one, the player that he is and, two, more importantly, the person that he is. He continues to work. He continues to grind http://www.chicagocubsteamshop.com/authentic-david-ross-jersey ,” said Red Sox pitcher David Price, the Game 5 winner. “He continues to push forward through everything that he has to go through. Watching him line out, hitting balls 100-plus miles an hour, routinely this year and last year, to see him get that MVP award, to get those big hits, I’m so pumped for him.”The Red Sox are going to the World Series for the first time since 2013, when they beat St. Louis in six games. They host Game 1 on Tuesday night at Fenway Park against the Los Angeles Dodgers or Milwaukee Brewers. When Boston last played at home in Game 2, after losing the ALCS opener http://www.chicagocubsteamshop.com/authentic-david-ross-jersey , Bradley’s three-run double off the Green Monster in the third inning put the Red Sox ahead to stay at 5-4 on the way to a 7-5 victory. After the series shifted to Houston for Game 3 on Tuesday, Bradley’s slam capped a five-run eighth against closer Roberto Osuna in an 8-2 win. Bradley homered again the next night in Game 4 with a two-run shot in the sixth that made it 6-5 — a game Boston won 8-6 to get within one victory of clinching. The Red Sox are 14-0 this year, including the postseason, when Bradley homers.“The confidence has always been there, I think from the day the season started, no matter how much he struggled or not,” teammate Xander Bogaerts said. “And I think it’s just good to see the results coming in big situations for us and helping us win games.”The 28-year-old outfielder, chosen by the Red Sox with the 40th pick in the 2011 amateur draft, is best known for playing outstanding defense in center. But he became the first player in postseason history with three consecutive multi-RBI games from the Nos. 8 or 9 spots in the lineup.“I felt good. I think it kind of just all boils down to having a game plan and obviously executing Carlos Zambrano Jersey ,” Bradley said. “You can have a game plan but sometimes it might not work out. But as a batter you want to swing at good pitches. You want to swing at pitches you can handle.”During the regular season, Bradley hit .234 with 13 homers and 59 RBIs in 144 games. He was batting .198 on July 7 before surging in the second half.“He’s a different hitter. Halfway through the season he found it, he found his stroke, he’s staying through the ball,” manager Alex Cora said before Game 5. “He’s hitting the ball in the air. He’s going the other way. And we know he’s going to swing and miss. We can live with it. But the quality at-bats have been great.”And now, JBJ is an MVP.
Good morning Horners! The whole gang is here today Randy Moss Jersey , Ted, Drew, and myself looking forward to the Minnesota Vikings hosting the New Orleans Saints on Sunday night. mplications at the halfway point of the season. The Saints are coming in with a 5-1 record. The Vikings currently rest on a three-game winning streak at 4-2-1, and both teams look to return to the playoffs at the end of the season and this game can help determine seeding. We start out with Drew looking for a streak that we haven’t seen in a while. Move on to some interesting numbers, then ask about injuries. Ted wonders about our feelings towards the Saints and other teams, some sources of pain in our Vikings fandom. We talk about the Minneapolis Miracle and wonder if that helped any of those feelings? If you didn’t know already, there are a lot of Vikings fans that do not like, at least, the current iteration or regime down in New Orleans, and how they play football. We talk about the running game, and without Dalvin Cook Cris Carter Jersey , how Latavius Murray, Roc Thomas, and Mike Boone are getting the job done. I wonder why Brett Jones isn’t playing guard with Tom Compton out. Danny Isidora filled in after the injury last week, and will again Sunday. We definitely hope he has a better game. The way the game looks on paper, expect a lot of passing, and the need for pass protection by the Vikings. While recording, Ted breaks the news that Everson Griffen will be back! This is truly outstanding, and as we learned yesterday, he is no longer on the injury report and we can expect to see him getting at least some snaps to chase down Drew Brees. The secondary will be challenged, especially since Xavier Rhodes [might be], and Anthony Barr will be sidelined due to injury. The young Holton Hill along with Eric Wilson will have their work cut out for them. We expect Coach Mike Zimmer to mix things up again to confuse coverages and blitzes. Drew hopes to see more and better tackling as a key to success. We are seeing purple Chris Doleman Jersey , and hope the home squad will levy Purple Pain towards the Saints. You can catch Ted and me on twitter during the game by following @purplebuckeye and @Luft_Krigare. We will be watching, like the rest of the country, in prime time on Sunday night. Go Vikings! His ‘FISH ON’ sack dance was one that always gave me a chuckle, and it will be missed.Robison was cut at the end of last year’s training camp, as the Vikings defensive line underwent a bit of a youth movement, and his leadership seemed to be missed throughout last season. He was a leader on and off the field, and his ‘96 Questions’ segment on the Vikings official website became must watch entertainment for me and many other Vikings fans.Robison was never the best or most athletic defensive lineman the Vikings ever had, but you’d be hard pressed to find a guy more dedicated to his craft than he was, and his hard work paid off with an 11 year career. I am sad to see him call it a career, but it’s really cool that a guy this well liked by Vikings players and fans got to spend it all with the Vikings. Congratulations to Brian Robison on one heck of a fine career, and his retirement from the NFL.

Like winter, fantasy football playoffs loom. Successful fantasy owners shouldn't go into victory formation yet, as one bad week or unfortunate injury can change the complexion of the whole season. Those still pushing for a postseason berth should pull out all the stops without fear. Week 10 brings opportunity for players who have otherwise been disappointments along with a rookie or two who should be used to exploit favorable matchups.START: Jordan Howard, RB, Bears: With four touchdowns in his last three games, Howard is showing signs of finally breaking out of his season-long funk. Howard is no longer a component in the Chicago passing game, but he's averaged 19 touches per game over the past three weeks. Now he faces a Lions run defense that gives up 5.1 yards per carry and is ranked 27th in stopping the run. He's still a long way from the RB1 many envisioned he'd be on draft day, but Howard will fit in most fantasy lineups as a solid RB2 this Sunday. SIT: Rob Gronkowski, TE Jesse Davis Jersey , Patriots: Yes, him. Gronkowski hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 1 and has exceeded better than 70 receiving yards just twice after tagging the Texans for 123 yards in the regular season opener. He missed last Sunday's win against the Packers and is questionable for Sunday's game versus the Titans. There are good streaming options available at tight end (Chris Herndon of the Jets, for example) but the days of Gronkowski as a must-start fantasy beast appear to be reaching their end.START: Marquez Valdes-Scantling, WR, Packers: Since joining the starting lineup, Valdes-Scantling is averaging just over nine targets per game and has a pair of 100-yard outings to go along with two touchdowns. Green Bay's pass, pass and pass again mindset makes the rookie a strong WR2 who continues to gain the trust of Aaron Rodgers. He'll keep building his rapport with Rodgers at the expense of a Miami defense that is 25th in receiving yards allowed and 29th in yards per catch allowed. Valdes-Scantling has averaged 21.1 yards per catch, as seven of his 17 receptions have been for 20 yards or longer.SIT: Derek Carr, QB, Raiders: The optimism about Carr following a strong performance against the Colts was critically shattered after a near-lifeless effort against the 49ers. Things will not get better for Carr, who must contend with a Chargers defense that is a solid 12th in net passing yards allowed and is tied for sixth with 10 interceptions. While Carr has 10 touchdown passes this season, keep in mind that seven of those came in two games. Los Angeles held him to just 14 fantasy points when the two teams met in Week 5.START: Michael Gallup, WR, Cowboys: Dak Prescott has gotten the rookie wideout more involved over the past two games, with 11 of his 28 targets this season coming in that span. He's responded well, catching six passes for 132 yards and a touchdown and will continue his upward trend going against a suspect Eagles pass defense that is 20th in net passing yards allowed. Gallup has shown he doesn't need a lot of targets to make an impact Dwayne Allen Jersey , which makes him an intriguing WR3/flex option.SIT: Kenny Golladay, WR, Lions: Even with Golden Tate no longer in the lineup, Golladay was a non-factor in last week's loss to the Vikings, catching just three passes for 46 yards on four targets. Things don't get easier for Golladay, who faces a Bears defense that is ninth in fewest net passing yards and is second only to the Dolphins with 14 interceptions. Golladay should see more targets after having a mere seven in his last three games combined, but there's little to feel good about playing him, especially in a PPR format.START: Marcus Mariota, QB, Titans: He's starting to round into shape and comes off his second game of better than 20 fantasy points with a great chance at a third against the Patriots. New England is 28th in net passing yards allowed and have given up 19 touchdown passes and must deal with Mariota's running ability. While he'd be a gamble in standard leagues, Mariota is a good play in deeper leagues. There's a good chance he steps his game up and turns this contest into a high-scoring affair.SIT: Matthew Stafford, QB, Lions: Stafford hasn't recorded a game of better than 20 fantasy points since Week 4 and after being sacked 10 times by the Vikings last week, his body will go through another brutal afternoon against the Bears, who have 24 sacks along with 14 interceptions. Chicago is ninth in fewest net passing yards, and if the Lions fall behind early Ryan Fitzpatrick Jersey , Stafford had better brace for a long afternoon of uncomfortable meetings with Chicago's withering pass rush.START: Aaron Jones, RB, Packers: Sooner or later, the Packers will catch on to giving Jones more than 12-14 carries per game. Sunday would be a good time to do so, as Green Bay gets a Miami defense ranked 31st against the run and allows a healthy 4.6 yards per carry, which bodes well for Jones' six yards per attempt. Yes, there is some disappointment in Jones after his fumble against the Patriots, but there's a great rebound opportunity awaiting any fantasy owner willing to use him as an RB2.SIT: Wendell Smallwood, RB, Eagles: In fact, avoiding Eagles running backs altogether is a sound move. The backfield by committee style is a fantasy killer, one whose level of pain is increased by facing a Cowboys run defense that is seventh in fewest yards allowed and gives up a mere 3.6 yards per carry.
be among the plays subject to replay review. It will apply both to offensive and defensive interference. And it will apply to calls and non-calls.Coaches will be permitted to challenge calls and non-calls of pass interference Marcus Peters Jersey , and the replay official will initiate the process in the final two minutes of each half and overtime. The league had resisted making pass interference subject to replay review for years, arguing that it is a “judgment call.” In some situations, however, judgement is horribly exercised. As owners exited the room Brandin Cooks Jersey , Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said (via Darin Gantt of PFT), “We got better in there.”Indeed they did. Collier is also a senior prospect who participated at the Reese’s Senior Bowl.
After months of trying acquire him Armani Watts Jersey , ce in former Seattle Seahawks defensive end Frank Clark."Following the finalization of his five-year, $104 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs late last week, there was just thing left for the Chiefs newest defensive end, Frank Clark, to do: formally meet the local press — which he did alongside head coach Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach in an introductory press conference that took place last Friday. While it was a momentous event for all involved, it was also the satisfying culmination of months of hard work put in by Veach to acquire Clark—a player he’d had his eyes on for a while. “Our plan was to try to get Frank Clark,” Veach said. “I told the guys, ‘Look, I don’t know if we’re going to be able to get him. If Seattle doesn’t tag him he’s going to cost a lot of money. Right? If they do tag him, we’re going to have to have some equity to get him.’ This was our plan all along. This was a guy we targeted, and you guys know I’m rather persistent.”That persistence paid off — especially when coupled with the most significant selling point in all of the NFL at Veach and the Chiefs’ disposal: Patrick Mahomes.Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports“When we find someone we like, we find a way to go get him. We did that with Patrick Mahomes and I told him (Frank Clark) that story. I said, ‘We didn’t have a first round pick last year and it was for the league MVP.’ I told Frank this year I’m having those same conversations with coach (Andy Reid) and [Chiefs Chairman and CEO] Clark [Hunt] about Patrick that I’m having with Frank. Pat’s an elite player and Frank’s an elite player Dorian O’Daniel Jersey , but again he just doesn’t have any weaknesses to his game.”And a veteran edge rusher with zero weaknesses is exactly what the Chiefs, now under entirely new defensive leadership, will need to help them move their defense from the 24th-overall ranking to the top 20 or even top 10, which is what Clark plans to help do. “I feel like we’re going to be better than 24th in the league on defense,” Clark said confidently. “I feel like last year, for a program that I wasn’t a part of, but I had a chance to look at from the outside in, I’m seeing an explosive offense on that side where you’ve got a guy like Patrick Mahomes. He’s doing everything he can to win games. You’ve got a whole group around him and he’s leading this group and this team at a young age and that’s just hats off to a young guy like him.”Clark can’t wait to begin working with this particular group of players, one he believes he is ready to lead. Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports“I feel like I bring a type of attitude and swagger with my play that I feel like every coach loves and I feel like my teammates will love,” Clark said when asked what he’ll bring to the Chiefs team. “I feel like it’s infectious. When you can play and make plays on the field, and then bring other players with you, I feel like that’s the key. I feel that’s when you become a great player. Not just about your individual stats, but when you can attribute and help in a whole other manner Derrick Nnadi Jersey , which helps out players on your team, that’s when I feel like you’re doing your job.”And while Clark is confident in the role he’ll play amongst his teammates, he is a little less clear as to the job new defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will have for him.“You never know,” Clark said, when asked how he’s going to fit in Spagnuolo’s system. “That’s the great thing about it all because you’re coming into something new. You’re coming into a place where you got a legend in a coach. You got a few legends as players. You got a great high-powered offense but the real question is, what’s the defense going to do?”Clark continued.“And that’s totally fine and that’s expected,” he said. “When you go from one of the worst defenses in the league, you’re going to have all these questions. The only thing I can do is let my play do the talking, and my actions off the field. If I can control that and I can do everything on that, I know everything else is going to handle itself, especially inside our defensive locker room.”So what will the new-look Chiefs defensive locker room — and chemistry amongst the players — be like now with addition of Clark? Well, that all comes down to one thing: the word, “respect.”Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports“I respect everyone’s craft for what they do here Breeland Speaks Jersey ,” Clark said earnestly. “I feel like that’s all you need to know. I don’t know a lot of them personally, obviously, because I was just in Seattle for the last four years, but I respect their game. It’s a few players who you know a little bit more than others, of course, but it’s all respect and it’s all love.”Another individual Clark respects and looks forward to working with is the Chiefs’ new defensive line coach, Brendan Daly. “Coach Daly is an awesome coach,” Clark said.“He’s got four Super Bowl rings. It’s not a lot of talking he needs to do. It’s obvious that his system works—the things he does. I’m just looking forward to being with coach and helping him—helping take a little bit of a load off of him.”And the underlying reason? Well, for Clark, that’s simple. “Cause I want the sack record.”Two Chiefs named among NFL’s 50 most fascinating people ESPN’s Bill Barnwell released his take on the NFL’s 50 most fascinating people Wednesday morning, and two Kansas City Chiefs made the list.Barnwell noted that the list is made up of individuals who are “not necessarily the most skilled or important players, coaches or executives,” but rather those who he believes will drive the NFL conversation throughout the 2018 season. The Chiefs ushered in the Mahomes Era when they traded Alex Smith this offseason, and the hype continued with Brett Favre comparisons, and, much more recently, The Throw this offseason and preseason.I think Barnwell’s points about Smith hold some weight and sometimes get a bit lost in the hype surrounding Mahomes in Kansas City.Average quarterbacks are hard to find, and Smith wasn’t just average in 2017—he was tremendous. But when you trade up 18 spots to go get somebody, it is pretty clear what that means for the future. It’s Mahomes’ turn in 2018 Travis Kelce Jersey , and he has huge shoes to fill. And thanks to The Throw, he’s already caught national attention.No. 46 - WR Sammy Watkins (from the Wild Cards Who Could Decide the Season group)Watkins stunk this preseason.Denny Medley-USA TODAY SportsAh, the second Chief.Barnwell went with Sammy Watkins, who has turned out to be a bit polarizing among the fan base this preseason. Watkins was a surprise signing by the Chiefs this offseason, and he certainly did not have the preseason Chiefs fans would have liked to see.Watkins finished the preseason with just one catch for 14 yards on seven targets. The Chiefs opted to sign Watkins on a three-year deal worth $48 million with $30 million in guaranteed money. The problem wasn’t so much in bringing Watkins aboard; it was doing so with such a small amount of cap room. If (and yes, still very much, if) the Chiefs offense is fantastic with Mahomes this season, but the secondary prevents them from making the postseason, it will be this move that may prove the most costly, especially given that a few of the Chiefs’ cuts at the wide receiver position should end up on other clubs.
