SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sporting his traditional look of cornrowed hair and movie star smile that made him one of the sports most popular figures, Urijah Faber proved he can still get it done in the octagon. The California Kid also showed he has a pretty good chin, too.Faber survived being knocked down in the third round and beat Brad Pickett by unanimous decision to win in the final fight of his career at UFC Fight Night on Saturday night.Sac-town, I love you guys, Faber said as the crowd at GoldenOne Center gave him a rousing standing ovation. The 37-year-old Faber, who announced his retirement earlier this year, repeatedly took Pickett to the mat throughout the fight and scored with crisp, hard head shots that opened a gaping cut on the Englishmans left eye before Pickett landed a sharp straight left that put Faber down with 1:22 left in the third.Faber (34-10) quickly got to his feet and smiled before chasing Pickett (26-13) down and trying for a final submission attempt as a raucous, near-sellout crowd at GoldenOne Center roared. This guy was coming for my head and I knew that, Faber said. Its a great way to go out. I could very well compete for another 10 years ... but Im choosing to wrap it up and head into whatevers next.Pickett, nicknamed One-Punch Pickett, never could mount much of an offense. He spent the early rounds trying to fend off Fabers takedowns and didnt score significantly until late in the final round.By then, Faber had built too big of a lead. All three judges scored the fight 30-26.Michelle Waterson (14-4) won with a rear-naked choke over Paige VanZant in the first round of their scheduled five-round fight in the main event.Waterson, No. 11 in the strawweight division, took VanZant down midway through the round and quickly got both of her arms locked around VanZants neck.VanZant (7-3) tried to work free and at one point had one of Watersons arms away before Waterson got it locked in again to win at 3:21 after VanZents hands went limp and she fell unconscious.I think that me switching to southpaw really threw her off guard, Waterson said. That was our game plan from the beginning, to just stop her momentum, and going southpaw did exactly that. Shes a fighter. She wasnt going to tap out.In the co-main event Mickey Gall (4-0) submitted up-and-coming Sage Northcutt in the second round of their welterweight bout to stay unbeaten.Northcutt (8-2) controlled the first round and was still in charge in the second when he got caught from behind by Gall, who scored the takedown and got Northcutt to tap out by a rear-naked choke at 1:40 left.Faber had lost his previous two fights including a five-round unanimous decision loss to UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz in the third of their three classic bouts this past June. This one went to a decision as well, though the outcome was clear -- at least among the pro-Faber crowd that repeatedly chanted his name throughout the night.Getting through the fight actually was easier for Faber than it was making his way to the ring. A video tribute including footage of some of his previous bouts were shown before the fight with Pickett, and Faber admitted he had to turn away because it made him emotional.I had to stay focused, he said. I kept it together and Im proud of that.Faber staggered Pickett with a sharp left hand midway through the first round and immediately went for the takedown. With the crowd chanting his name, Faber got Picketts back and twice went for a submission before landing 15 consecutive right hands on Picketts head during one stretch.Im ready to go forward, Faber said. I love this sport, I love my team coming up. Theres nothing like (fighting) but Im ready to move forward and do some big things. That includes continuing to mentor some of the younger fighters on his Team Alpha Male. Faber also has a clothing line, a supplement business as well as a family construction business. Antoine Griezmann Jersey .J. Jefferson has been charged with assaulting his girlfriend. CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Vikings cornerback Captain Munnerlyn has a message for Panthers wide receiver Devin Funchess: Youre not that good.Munnerlyn said the Vikings concentrated on slowing down Carolinas No. 1 receiver Kelvin Benjamin, who came into the game with 13 catches for 199 yards and three TDs, while largely ignoring Funchess.Funchess couldnt take advantage of seeing mostly single coverage. Neither he nor Benjamin recorded a catch in Carolinas 22-10 loss to Minnesota. We just knew where Benjamin was the whole time, Munnerlyn said. Funchess, we werent worried about him. It was Kelvin Benjamin. Im just going to be honest. Me personally, I dont think he is that good, No. 17 (Funchess). So we werent really worried about him.Funchess was unavailable for comment after the game. After a solid training camp and preseason, Funchess has struggled this season with only three catches for 28 yards and one touchdown. The Panthers opened the game in a three-receiver set on Sunday that did not include Funchess. Ted Ginn Jr. and Philly Brown started alongside Benjamin. Ginn had three catches for 62 yards and Brown four grabs for 57 yards.NEWTON FINE: Cam Newton said hes fine after Vikings defensive tackle Linval Joseph landed on his leg while chasing him out of the pocket.Newton sat out a play then returned and finished the game. The leagues MVP has a chance to get back in a rhythm next Sunday when the Panthers play their first NFC South game against the Falcons, who surrendered four TD passes to the Bucs Jameis Winston in Week One and three to the Raiders Derek Carr in Week Two.BRADFORD COMFORTABLE: Minnesota quarterback Sam Bradford is now 2-0 as the Vikings starter, despite getting off to a slow start against the Panthers.Bradford was 4 of 11 for 26 yards passing over the first two quarters. But in the second half, he went 14 of 17 for 145 yards and a touchdown , a 15-yarder to Kyle Rudolph in the third quarter that put Minnesota in the lead.We just never really found the rhythm, in the first half, Bradford said. While not as impressive as his debut -- 286 yards and two touchdowns in beating the Green Bay Packers last week -- Zimmer is ready to say that Bradfford now knows the Vikings offense heading into their matchup against the New York Giants.ddddddddddddI think we probably need to put the whole `learning the offense thing away. Hes good to go with all that stuff, Zimmer said.VIKINGS GROUND GAME: The Vikings are winning despite not having much of a ground game. They came in ranked 32nd in the league in rushing and only had 58 yards rushing against the Panthers without Adrian Peterson. Third-year pro Jerick McKinnon finished with 16 carries for 45 yards. Matt Asiata started but had just 15 yards on six carries. Those guys ran the ball pretty good today, Zimmer said. We stuck to it a little bit more in the second half. It helps take some of the pressure off of the pass rush when you can do those things.SAFETY STREAK: Minnesota defensive end Danielle Hunters first-quarter sack on Newton gave the Vikings their first defensive safety in nearly five years. Hunter brought Newton down from behind for a five-yard loss with 1:44 remaining in the first quarter for the safety, Minnesotas first since Dec. 4, 2011, during a 35-32 loss to the Denver Broncos. That safety that Danielle Hunter got was a big turning point in the game, Zimmer said as it cut Carolinas lead to 10-2.WINNING SPECIAL TEAMS: After struggling through the first two weeks of the season, Minnesota punter Jeff Locke found his range against the Panthers. Entering Sundays game averaging a league-worst 38.6 yards per punt, Locke averaged 48.4 yards per on his seven punts, including a season-best 62-yarder in the first quarter.Locke twice pinned the Panthers inside their own five-yard line with long kicks, both of which led to Vikings scores. The 62-yarder set up Hunters sack and safety, and a 58-yarder in the second quarter pinned Carolina at its own 2 in the second quarter.Meanwhile, Carolina gave up a 54-yard punt return for a touchdown to Marcus Sherels and Graham Gano missed a 54-yard field goal.---Freelance Writer Bill Kiser contributed to this report.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL China Jerseys Wholesale Jerseys China China NFL Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap Jerseys Online Cheap NFL Jerseys Camo Jerseys From China ' ' '
