VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Villanova slipped on the national championship rings, raised the national championship banner and hit the road on a victory circuit that had almost as many stops as a Wiz Khalifa summer tour.Khalifa even made a cameo appearance at Villanova as part of a championship celebration. The Wildcats shared laughs with President Barack Obama. Rollie Massimino danced at the title party. The Wildcats were feted with parades and presentations, first pitches and first pucks, and ordinary Big East players morphed into overnight college basketball sensations.Villanova has basked in the spotlight for seven months after beating North Carolina in one of the NCAA Tournaments all-time greatest games. Its now time for the Wildcats to try to defend -- defend? -- the championship.Nobody can take the ring off our fingers, 6-foot-5 swingman Josh Hart said. Were not defending nothing. Were a team that can make a deep run in March.Again the Big East favorites and ranked fourth in the AP preseason Top 25 , the Wildcats should be on the short list of teams to beat for a championship. They went 31 years between winning it all. Theyd like to shorten the next gap to one year.Led by Hart and title game star Kris Jenkins, the Wildcats are in prime position to become the first team to go back to back since Florida in 2006 and 2007.Just cutting down that net again would be great, Hart said. The Wildcats wouldnt have to search far to find a ladder. They kept the one they used in Houston to snip the nets after they beat the Tar Heels on Jenkins buzzer-beating 3-pointer.Hart, the Big Easts preseason player of the year, will begin his senior season on The Associated Press preseason All-America team . Hart averaged 15.5 points and 6.8 rebounds last season for the Wildcats and considered turning pro.He wants two-time national champ stamped on his bio for next years NBA draft.A couple of people told me that when they were going through the draft process, they were like, `It was a storybook ending, and you can basically ride off into the sunset, Hart said. Riding off into the sunset in that way this year would be crazy.Coach Jay Wright, who is 354-157 with two Final Fours in 15 seasons at Villanova, said a national title has only boosted the Wildcats confidence.Thats not something they lose. That confidence is inside them, he said. That experience is inside them. Youre never going to take that away. Usually its harder to control your ego than it is to pump somebody up. The challenge is really our ego and staying humble and hungry and getting better.Get better? That could be scary for the rest of the Big East. The three-time defending conference champs have improved their record in the league (16-2 each of the last three years) and a top-three seed in the NCAA Tournament is usually a mere formality. Here are some of the challenges ahead for the reigning national champs:FREE OMARIOmari Spellman, a 6-foot-8 highly recruited forward, was expected to become Villanovas big man in the frontcourt this season. The NCAA declared the freshman academically ineligible for this season because Spellman did not complete his initial eligibility requirements in time. That leaves more minutes for Darryl Reynolds and freshmen Tim Delaney and Dylan Painter. But Spellman would have carried a load left by Daniel Ochefus absence and made the Wildcats more potent inside. The Villanova fans chanted Free Omari! at their national championship celebration. Hell be free -- just not until next season.WONT YOU STAYSpellman was an expected stud and sophomore guard Jalen Brunson had one-and-done potential until he eased into his team-first role in the starting lineup.Wright has never had a one-and-done player leave for the NBA and the Wildcats have made tournament runs on the strength of four-year players like Ochefu, now with the Washington Wizards, and point guard Ryan Arcidiacono.Wright said that approach wont change as champs. Were trying to find kids that appreciate what Villanova is all about, he said. People say it must have helped you in recruiting. Were recruiting the same guys. Were trying to find the best guys for Villanova that can make it to the NBA, not the best guys for the NBA.WRIGHT WAYWright said he had nothing more than simple, casual conversations with NBA team executives about jobs open at the next level. Wright, who has dealt with job offer rumors for a decade, said he does not have NBA aspirations.I dont, he said. Would I like to coach in the NBA? Would I like the challenge? Yeah. But I dont want to give this up. Youve got to give this up to do it. I dont want to give it up. If I ended my career and I never got to coach in the NBA, Id be far more happier saying I got to coach at Villanova for a long time.---More AP college basketball: http://collegebasketball.ap.org Cheap 2018 Nike Air Max Plus TN Ultra Womens Shoes Jade White . With Haslam embroiled in a legal scandal involving his family-owned truck-stop business, Commissioner Roger Goodell expressed his confidence in Clevelands owner and said the league has no plans to intervene or discipline him at this point. Goodell visited Clevelands training camp on Thursday to launch a program between the league and Pop Warner with USA Footballs Heads Up Football Program. Following a clinic with young players, Goodell said hes satisfied with Haslams handling of the federal investigation at Pilot Flying J, and said the league is proud to be associated with its newest owner. "Jimmy Haslam is a man of great integrity," Goodell said. "Were proud to have him as an owner in the NFL and think hes going to be a great owner for the Cleveland Browns and their fans. Hes as disappointed as anybody in what happened at Pilot J and hes working hard to fix it and correct those issues, both from a structural standpoint and to make amends." Goodell added that the league has no plans to intervene at this time. "I dont think its a matter for us at this moment," Goodell said. Haslam has been in the crosshairs of controversy since April 15, when the FBI and IRS raided Pilot Flying Js headquarters in Knoxville, Tenn., seizing documents and as part of a probe into wide-spread fraud at the company. Haslam has maintained he did not know about a program within his sales staff to cheat customers out of rebate and discount money. Seven employees have pleaded guilty to defrauding customers. Goodell said Haslam assured him he knew nothing of the rebate scam. "Hes been very clear that hes had no knowledge of that and hes been clear publicly and clear with you all," Goodell said. "He doesnt need any pushing. This company means a lot to him and hes obviously not happy about what has happened and hes determined to fix it. Jimmy is more disappointed than anybody." Pressed about what the league might do if Haslam were indicted, Goodell refused to presume anything. "Were not going to play the hypothetical game," Goodell said. "Right now hes addressing the issues. Were confident hes going to deal with it properly. Youre dealing with a bunch of hypotheticals. Were not going there." Goodell said the league was thorough in its vetting of Haslam, who was a minority owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers before buying the Browns. "This was a surprise to him and to his senior-level management," Goodell said. "From that standpoint, I dont think he was aware of it and I dont know any way we could have been aware of it. It was not disclosed to us." Goodell has a well-earned reputation as being a tough disciplinarian with players. He promised to be equally firm with any owner who breaks the law. "We actually hold ownership to a higher standard and management," he said. "I think weve proven that in what weve done. Its not just accused. As you know, in our policy, oftentimes we let thhe criminal process unfold because you need to do that to find out the real facts.dddddddddddd Sometimes we dont have all the facts and we need to do that. What we look at is multiple offenders. As you know, thats a real focus for us." Haslam and Goodell were not seen together on the field as the Browns concluded their first week of camp. Goodell spent time visiting with Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown, who has returned as an adviser with the team. Earlier in the day, Goodell and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer conducted a football safety clinic for 500 moms of youth players in Columbus. Although he was already in the league, Haslam underwent the same scrutiny as any owner, Goodell insisted. "We go through the same process on any circumstance," Goodell said. "When youre going through a controlling ownership position, thats a big step up so we dont just pass that off. We do the same vetting process. Obviously he knows people in the league after being an owner, so there were certain aspects of that which were easier. But we didnt short-circuit anything." Goodell is satisfied the investigation has not been a distraction to the Browns, who are undergoing another makeover with a new front office and coaching staff, However, Goodell did concede its troubling one of the NFLs owners is part of federal probe. "You never want to see this kind of thing happen, particularly to a partner in the league," Goodell said. "Obviously his partners care a great deal about him and as a partner they want to see him getting off to a good start. This is not what anybody intended, not anybody anticipated. But hes a man that I think everyone truly respects in the NFL." Goodell said the Browns are in good hands with Haslam, whom he believes can restore the Browns to their former glory. "Jimmy Haslam came into this with a mindset that he was going to do everything possible to get this franchise turned around in a positive direction and a team that this community will be proud of not just in any single year but consistently and to create a winner," Goodell said. "And hes brought in great talent. Hes brought in great people. He set the organization obviously in a different direction. I think thats all positive and good for the fans here and ultimately good for the NFL."
