RENTON, Wash. -- Playing across the country on a short week and facing one of the top teams in the NFL coming off a bye, the Seattle Seahawks had every reasonable excuse available. And yet, what could have been an expected setback instead became one of Seattles most impressive regular season wins under coach Pete Carroll.Weve had our struggles, but fortunately enough weve been on the positive side of it, Seattle wide receiver Doug Baldwin said after the game. So, as we continue to get healthy and continue to execute and get better at that, I think well continue to improve and hopefully continue to win.Seattles 31-24 victory over New England will be remembered for the final sequence -- one that was eerily similar to when the teams met in the Super Bowl two years ago, except this time it was the Patriots who threw a failed pass from the 1-yard line. At Super Bowl XLIX, Russell Wilsons pass was intercepted by Malcom Butler, giving New England its fourth championship. On Sunday, Tom Bradys lob fell incomplete after an end-zone collision between Rob Gronkowski and safety Kam Chancellor, sending the Seahawks home with an unlikely victory. It wont be considered one of Seattles most important victories under Carroll -- there were too many games earlier in his tenure, before the Seahawks were established as regular contenders, that created the base for whats become a four-year run as one of the top teams in the NFC.But considering the circumstances, it ranks among the most impressive. Seattle was playing just six days after outlasting Buffalo on Monday night , traveling across the country on Friday for a Sunday night game against a rested Patriots squad that hadnt played since winning at Buffalo on Oct. 30.It was a scenario set for Seattle to fail. Instead, the Seahawks thrived. The mentality in believing that youre going to get it done, remaining confident, finding the confidence that it takes to execute well, comes from experience and really good leadership, Carroll said. The guys, they were in it to win the thing all the way to the last inch and found a way.The victory was encouraging, and so was the re-emergence of Seattles offense following a sluggish first half of the season. Baldwin created headaches for defensive backs, especially near the end zone, where he caught three touchdowns for the first time since Week 14 of last season. Wilson looked as healthy as he has all season, throwing for 348 yards, and showing the elusiveness and ability to extend plays with his legs thats been absent since suffering ankle and knee injuries in the first three weeks of the season. But the most important change was a rushing attack that entered the week 30th in the NFL, averaging just 75 yards per game. Led by rookie C.J. Prosise, the Seahawks ran for 96 yards as a team. Its not a significant total, but it was Seattles most yards on the ground since Week 3.Prosise provided a missing spark, along with a solid night by Seattles maligned offensive line. The third-round pick, slowed early in the season by a broken bone in his hand, rushed for 66 yards on 17 carries and caught all seven targets for 87 yards.C.J. hit stuff really well. He took advantage of a leap forward from our guys up front, Carroll said. It was the most aggressive that weve been, the most confident coming off the ball. It was just the best outing that weve had. I think it all fit together.Game notes LB Mike Morgan was activated off injured reserve for return to practice on Monday. Carroll said the plan is for Morgan to have a couple weeks of practice before being added to the active roster. ... LB Kevin Pierre-Louis injured his hamstring in the game but was the only injury of significance. ... DE Michael Bennett is still likely a couple of weeks away following minor knee surgery. Bennett has missed the last three games. ... RB Thomas Rawls is expected to practice this week and is on track to play Sunday. Rawls (shin) has been out since Week 2.---For more NFL coverage: http://www.pro32.ap.org and http://www.twitter.com/AP-NFL Albie Lopez Jersey . Louis Blues absence from top spot in the TSN. "We won that game because of Tony Parkers aggressiveness," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "His juice; his aggression all night long. We got the lot in the six games of Round 5, with a low-scoring affair in Cairns that centred entirely on the defensive end and a high-octane offensive showdown in Perth. The ladder also saw more moves than a game of chess, with Cairns rising from eighth to fourth and Melbourne for the first time in a long time sitting bottom.Questions have been raised about the security of coaching positions, and the fact star players are not all performing at the level we know they can. Its still early in the season and panic shouldnt sweep the locker rooms, but teams still need to start paying close attention to the warning signs and putting into place plans for the dangers that may lie ahead. So who and what stood out during NBL Round 5?Snakes and LaddersLose your first three games of the season and plenty of questions get raised and the best way to silence the doubters is to win. Thats exactly what Cairns Taipans have done in claiming three of their next four games to climb off the bottom of the ladder. How have the Snakes turned it around? Defensive intensity. The Taipans gave up an average 86.33 points per game during their opening three losses, but that has dropped to 71.66 in their wins.Cairns now own the third-best defensive rating in the league, giving up an average of 79 points, behind only Perth Wildcats (77.85) and Sydney Kings (76.12).Superstars CollideCataclysmic events are a rare occurrence but thats what we saw in Perth, where two MVP front-runners squared off and put their case forward for the award.Adelaides Jerome Randle and Perths Casey Prather have shown all season that theyre a notch above the rest, and they shone brightest yet again in Round 5.Randle finished the game with 40 points, shooting an impressive 60.9 percent from the floor, and nine assists just to go along. Prather finished with 28 points, eeight assists and, more importantly, the win.ddddddddddddDown to the WireSydney Kings and Cairns players got involved in a heated scuffle during the second quarter, and the Taipans Mark Worthington had the following to say at the halftime break: We have an all-in mentality. We didnt like what [Jason] Cadee did so we went all in.The game was on the verge of boiling over for the remainder, and it needed a cool hand to settle things; enter Kevin Lisch. The Boomers player nailed a pull-up jumper as the clock wound down to give the Kings the win and secure top spot for another week.Missing in ActionCorey Webster won one of the Player of the Month awards last season, when he was also named to the All NBL Second Team, but he is a shell of that player this season.Every single NBL fan knows Webster is near unstoppable when hes on, but they are scratching their heads this season in bemusement.Webster was on the floor for a total of 53 minutes and 45 seconds in Round 5, netting 14 points on 3/21 shooting at 14.28 percent, while making four assists, five turnovers and eight fouls. His play hasnt hurt the Breakers, but still they would love his production back so that they can solidify themselves as genuine contenders.Dig UpMelbourne United are in disarray, riding a four-game losing streak and seemingly having no answers. They started the round by going down in overtime to New Zealand, and that was a tough pill to swallow as they should have won the game. Star import David Andersen then finally found his game only for the rest of the team suddenly to lose theirs in a defeat by Illawarra that saw them sitting alone afoot the NBL ladder.NBA podcaster Tom Read explained how far they have fallen.
